We establish parabolicity and quadratic area growth for minimal surfaces-with-boundary contained in regions of R^3 which are within a sub-logarithmic factor of the exterior of a cone. Unlike previous work showing that these two properties hold for minimal surfaces-with-boundary contained between two catenoids, we do not make use of universal superharmonic functions. Instead, we use stochastic methods, which have the additional feature of giving a type of parabolicity in a more general context than Brownian motion on a minimal surface.
Let $P$ be a submanifold properly immersed in a rotationally symmetric manifold having a pole and endowed with a weight $e^h$. The aim of this paper is twofold. First, by assuming certain control on the $h$-mean curvature of $P$, we establish comparisons for the $h$-capacity of extrinsic balls in $P$, from which we deduce criteria ensuring the $h$-parabolicity or $h$-hyperbolicity of $P$. Second, we employ functions with geometric meaning to describe submanifolds of bounded $h$-mean curvature which are confined into some regions of the ambient manifold. As a consequence, we derive half-space a…
Let $\mathbb{M}^{2}$ be a complete non compact orientable surface of non negative curvature. We prove in this paper some theorems involving parabolicity of minimal surfaces in $\mathbb{M}^{2}\times\mathbb{R}$. First, using a characterization of $δ$-parabolicity we prove that under additional conditions on $\mathbb{M}$, an embedded minimal surface with bounded gaussian curvature is proper. The second theorem states that under some conditions on $\mathbb{M}$, if $Σ$ is a properly immersed minimal surface with finite topology and one end in $\mathbb{M}\times\mathbb{R}$, which is transverse to a s…
Sharp bounds are given for solutions to the minimal surface equation with vanishing boundary values over domains containing sectors of opening bigger than pi.
We give upper bounds for the bottom of the essential spectrum of properly immersed minimal submanifolds of $\mathbb{R}^{n}$ in terms of their volume growth. Our result improves the extrinsic version of Brook's essential spectrum estimate given by Ilias-Nelli-Soret in \cite[Cor.3]{ins}.
The existence of two geometrically distinct closed geodesics on an $n$-dimensional sphere $S^n$ with a non-reversible and bumpy Finsler metric was shown independently by Duan--Long [7] and the author [27]. We simplify the proof of this statement by the following observation: If for some $N \in \mathbb{N}$ all closed geodesics of index $\le N$ of a non-reversible and bumpy Finsler metric on $S^n$ are geometrically equivalent to the closed geodesic $c$ then there is a covering $c^r$ of minimal index growth, i.e. $${\rm ind}(c^{rm})=m {\rm ind}(c^r)-(m-1)(n-1)$$ for all $m \ge 1$ with ${\rm ind}\…
This note concerns the area growth and bottom spectrum of complete stable minimal surfaces in a three-dimensional manifold with scalar curvature bounded from below. When the ambient manifold is the Euclidean space, by an elementary argument, it is shown directly from the stability inequality that the area of such minimal surfaces grows exactly as the Euclidean plane. Consequently, such minimal surfaces must be at, a well-known result due to Fisher-Colbrie and Schoen as well as do Carmo and Peng. In the case the ambient manifold is the hyperbolic space, explicit area growth estimate is also der…
Volume Growth, Number of Ends and the Topology of a Complete Submanifold
Pacelli Bessa和M. Silencia Costa.
In this paper, we consider a Generalized Bernstein Theorem for a type of generalized minimal surfaces, namely minimal Plateau surfaces. We show that if an orientable minimal Plateau surface is stable and has quadratic area growth in $\mathbb{R}^3 $, then it is flat.
We study the minimal surface equation in the Heisenberg space, Nil_3. A geometric proof of non existence of minimal graphs over non convex, bounded and unbounded domains is achieved (our proof holds in the Euclidean space as well). We solve the Dirichlet problem for the minimal surface equation over bounded and unbounded convex domains, taking bounded, piecewise continuous boundary value. We are able to construct a Scherk type minimal surface and we use it as a barrier to construct non trivial minimal graphs over a wedge of angle between π/2 ,and πtaking non negative continuous boundary data, …
We obtain area growth estimates for constant mean curvature graphs in $\mathbb{E}(κ,τ)$-spaces with $κ\leq 0$, by finding sharp upper bounds for the volume of geodesic balls in $\mathbb{E}(κ,τ)$. We focus on complete graphs and graphs with zero boundary values. For instance, we prove that entire graphs in $\mathbb{E}(κ,τ)$ with critical mean curvature have at most cubic intrinsic area growth. We also obtain sharp upper bounds for the extrinsic area growth of graphs with zero boundary values, and study distinguished examples in detail such as invariant surfaces, $k$-noids and ideal Scherk graph…
