Nikol'skii known theorem for the kernels satisfying a condition $A^*_n$, is proved and for kernels from wider class. Explicit formulas for calculating the value of an approximation of classes $\W^{r, β}_{p, n} $ by convolution operators of special form are obtained. Here $ β\in\Z $, $r> 0 $, $n\in\N $, and $p=1 $ or $p =\infty $. As particular cases obtained explicit formulas for value of an approximation of the indicated classes generalized Abel-Poisson means, biharmonic operators of Poisson, Cesaro and Riesz means. In some cases for value of an approximation of the indicated classes asymptotic expansions on parameter are found. In case of natural $r$ some results have been obtained in works Nikol'skii, Nagy, Timan, Telyakovskii, Baskakov, Falaleev, Kharkevich and other mathematicians.
Key words: Nikol'skii theorem, an approximation of classes of functions, Abel-Poisson means, biharmonic operators of Poisson, Riesz and Cesaro means, asymptotic expansion, multiply monotone function, Hurwitz function.
We calculate the least upper bounds for approximations in the metric of the space $L_2$ by linear methods of summation of Fourier series on classes of periodic functions $L^ψ_{\barβ,1}$ defined by sequences of multipliers $ψ=ψ(k)$ and shifts of argument $\barβ=β_k$.
We establish asymptotic estimates for the least upper bounds of approximations in the uniform metric by Fourier sums of order $n-1$ of classes of $2π$-periodic Weyl--Nagy differentiable functions, $W^r_{β,p}, 1\le p\le \infty, β\in\mathbb{R},$ for high exponents of smoothness $r\ (r-1\ge \sqrt{n})$. We obtain similar estimates in metrics of the spaces $L_p, 1\le p\le\infty,$ for functional classes $W^r_{β,1}$.
In this paper we establish exact order estimates for the best uniform orthogonal trigonometric approximations of the classes of $2π$-periodic functions, whose $(ψ,β)$-derivatives belong to unit balls of spaces $L_{p}$, $1\leq p<\infty$, in the case, when the sequence $ψ(k)$ tends to zero faster, than any power function, but slower than geometric progression. Similar estimates are also established in the $L_{s}$-metric, $1<s\leq\infty$ for the classes of differentiable functions, which $(ψ,β)$-derivatives belong to unit ball of space $L_{1}$.
We obtain the exact-order estimates for approximations by Fourier sums, best approximations and best orthogonal trigonometric approximations in metrics of spaces L_s, 1\leq s<\infty, of classes of 2π-periodic functions, whose (ψ,β)-derivatives belong to unit ball of the space L_\infty.
We find asymptotic equalities for the exact upper bounds of approximations by Fourier sums of Weyl-Nagy classes $W^r_{β,p}, 1\le p\le\infty,$ for rapidly growing exponents of smoothness $r$ $(r/n\rightarrow\infty)$ in the uniform metric. We obtain similar estimates for approximations of the classes $W^r_{β,1}$ in metrics of the spaces $L_p, 1\le p\le\infty$.
In this paper, we specify a set of optimal subspaces for $L_2$ approximation of three classes of functions in the Sobolev space $W^{(r)}_2$, defined on a segment and subject to certain boundary conditions. All of these subspaces are generated by equidistant shifts of a single function. In particular, we indicate optimal spline spaces of all degrees $d\geqslant r-1$ with uniform knots.
We obtained order estimations for the best uniform approximations by trigonometric polynomials and approximations by Fourier sums of classes of $2π$-periodic continuous functions, which $(ψ,β)$-derivatives $f_β^ψ$ belong to unit balls of spaces $L_{p}, 1\leq p<\infty$ in case at consequences $ψ(k)$ decrease to nought faster than any power function. We also established the analogical estimations in $L_{s}$-metric, $1<s\leq\infty$, for classes of the summable $(ψ,β)$-differentiable functions, such that $\parallel f_β^ψ\parallel_{1}\leq1$.
We find uniform with respect to parameter $p \ (1\leq p\leq\infty)$ upper estimations of best approximations by trigonometric polynomials of classes $C^ψ_{β,p}$ of periodic functions generated by sequences $ψ(k)$, that decrease to nought faster than any power function. Obtained estimations are exact for order and have constants that are written in explicit form and depend on function $ψ$ only. We obtain analogical estimations for best approximations of classes $L^ψ_{β,1}$ in metrics of spaces $L_{s}$, $1\leq s\leq \infty$.
We obtain asymptotic estimates for the best approximations by trigonometric polynomials in the metric space $C$ $(L_p)$ of classes of periodic functions that can be represented as a convolution of kernels $Ψ_β$, which Fourier coefficients tend to zero faster than any power sequence, with functions $φ\in C (φ\in L_p),$ which moduli of continuity do not exceed a fixed majorant $ω(t)$. It is proved that in the spaces $C$ and $L_1$ the obtained estimates are asymptotically exact for convex moduli of continuity $ω(t)$.
In this paper, we prove that for some Generalized Takagi Classes, in particular for the Takagi-Van der Waerden Class, the functions are nowhere differentiable if, and only if, the sequence of weights does not belong to $c_0$.
In this paper some new inequalities are proved related to left hand side of Hermite-Hadamard inequality for the classes of functions whose derivatives of absolute values are m-convex. New bounds and estimations are obtained. Applications for some Theorems are given as well.
We calculate the least upper bounds of pointwise and uniform approximations for classes of $2π$-periodic functions expressible as convolutions of an arbitrary square summable kernel with functions, which belong to the unit ball of the space $L_2$, by linear polynomial methods constructed on the basis of their Fourier-Lagrange coefficients.
We obtain exact lower bounds for Kolmogorov $n$-widths in spaces $C$ and $L$ of classes of convolutions with Neumann kernel $N_{q,β}(t)=\sum\limits_{k=1}^{\infty}\dfrac{q^k}{k}\cos\left(kt-\dfrac{βπ}{2}\right)$, ${q\in(0,1)}$, ${β\in\mathbb{R}}$, for all natural $n$ greater some number which depend only on $q$. The obtained estimates coincide with the best uniform approximations by trigonometric polynomials of mentioned classes. It made possible to obtain exact values for widths of these classes.
We obtain estimates exact in order for deviations of Zygmund sums in metrics of spaces $L_{q}$, $1<q<\infty$, on classes of $2π$-periodic functions, that admit the representation in the form of convolution of functions that belong to unit ball of the space $L_{1}$ with fixed kernel $Ψ_β$. We show that at certain values of the parameters that define the class $L^ψ_{β,1}$ and method of approximation, Zygmund sums provide the order of best approximation of given classes by trigonometric polynomials in metric $L_{q}$
We find two-sides estimates for the best uniform approximations of classes of convolutions of $2π$-periodic functions from unit ball of the space $L_p, 1 \le p <\infty,$ with fixed kernels, modules of Fourier coefficients of which satisfy the condition $\sum\limits_{k=n+1}^\inftyψ(k)<ψ(n).$ In the case of $\sum\limits_{k=n+1}^\inftyψ(k)=o(1)ψ(n)$ the obtained estimates become the asymptotic equalities.
We establish asymptotic estimates for exact upper bounds of uniform approximations by Fourier sums on the classes of $2π$-periodic functions, which are represented by convolutions of functions $φ(φ\bot 1)$ from unit ball of the space $L_{1}$ with fixed kernels $Ψ_β$ of the form $Ψ_β(t)=\sum\limits_{k=1}^{\infty}ψ(k) \cos\left(kt-\frac{βπ}{2}\right)$, $\sum\limits_{k=1}^{\infty}kψ(k)<\infty$, $ψ(k)\geq 0$, $β\in\mathbb{R}$.
We obtain order-exact estimates for uniform approximations by using Zygmund sums $Z^{s}_{n}$ of classes $C^ψ_{β,p}$ of $2π$-periodic continuous functions $f$ representable by convolutions of functions from unit balls of the space $L_{p}$, $1< p<\infty$, with a fixed kernels $Ψ_β\in L_{p'}$, $\frac{1}{p}+\frac{1}{p'}=1$. In addition, we find a set of allowed values of parameters (that define the class $C^ψ_{β,p}$ and the linear method $Z^{s}_{n}$) for which Zygmund sums and Fejer sums realize the order of the best uniform approximations by trigonometric polynomials of those classes.
We obtain exact for order estimates of best uniform approximations and uniform approximations by Fourier sums of classes of convolutions the periodic functions belong to unit balls of spaces $L_{p}, \ {1\leq p<\infty}$, with generating kernel $Ψ_β$, whose absolute values of Fourier coefficients $ψ(k)$ are such that $\sum\limits_{k=1}^{\infty}ψ^{p'}(k)k^{p'-2}<\infty$, $\frac{1}{p}+\frac{1}{p'}=1$, and product $ψ(n)n^{\frac{1}{p}}$ can't tend to nought faster than power functions.
Quasianalytic classes are classes of infinitely differentiable functions that satisfy the analytic continuation property enjoyed by analytic functions. Two general examples are quasianalytic Denjoy-Carleman classes (of origin in the analysis of linear partial differential equations) and the class of infinitely differentiable functions that are definable in a polynomially bounded o-minimal structure (of origin in model theory). We prove a generalization to quasianalytic functions of Malgrange's celebrated theorem on the division of infinitely differentiable by real-analytic functions.
We find an equivalent condition for a real function $f:[a,b]\to\R$ to be Lebesgue equivalent to an $n$-times differentiable function ($n\geq 2$); a simple solution in the case $n=2$ appeared in an earlier paper. For that purpose, we introduce the notions of $CBVG_{1/n}$ and $SBVG_{1/n}$ functions, which play analogous roles for the $n$-th order differentiability as the classical notion of a $VBG_*$ function for the first order differentiability, and the classes $CBV_{1/n}$ and $SBV_{{1}/{n}}$ (introduced by Preiss and Laczkovich) for $C^n$ smoothness. As a consequence of our approach, we obtai…
In metric of spaces $L_{s}, \ 1< s\leq\infty$, we obtain exact order estimates of best approximations and approximations by Fourier sums of classes of convolutions the periodic functions that belong to unit ball of space $L_{1}$, with generating kernel $Ψ_β(t)=\sum\limits_{k=1}^{\infty}ψ(k)\cos(kt-\frac{βπ}{2})$, $β\in\mathbb{R}$, whose coefficients $ψ(k)$ are such that product $ψ(n)n^{1-\frac{1}{s}}$, $1<s\leq\infty$, can't tend to nought faster than every power function and besides, if $1<s<\infty$, then $\sum\limits_{k=1}^{\infty}ψ^{s}(k)k^{s-2}<\infty$ and if $s=\infty$, then $\sum\limits_…
We establish the exact-order estimates of uniform approximations by the Zygmund sums $Z^{s}_{n-1}$ of $2π$-periodic continuous functions $f$ from the classes $C^ψ_{β,p}$.These classes are defined by the convolutions of functions from the unit ball in the space $L_{p}$, $1\leq p<\infty$, with generating fixed kernels $Ψ_β(t)=\sum_{k=1}^{\infty}ψ(k)\cos\left(kt+\frac{βπ}{2}\right)$, $Ψ_β\in L_{p'}$, $β\in \mathbb{R}$, $1/p+1/p'=1$. We additionally assume that the product $ψ(k)k^{s+1/p}$ is generally monotonically increasing with the rate of some power function, and, besides, for $1< p<\infty$ it…
We obtain order estimates for the best uniform orthogonal trigonometric approximations of $2π$-periodic functions, whose $(ψ,β)$-derivatives belong to unit balls of spaces $L_{p}, \ 1\leq p<\infty$, in case at consequences $ψ(k)$ are that product $ψ(n)n^{\frac{1}{p}}$ can tend to zero slower than any power function and $\sum\limits_{k=1}^{\infty}ψ^{p'}(k)k^{p'-2}<\infty$ when $1<p<\infty$, $\frac{1}{p}+\frac{1}{p'}=1$ and $\sum\limits_{k=1}^{\infty}ψ(k)<\infty$ when $p=1$. We also establish the analogical estimates in $L_{s}$-metric, $1< s\leq \infty$, for classes of the summable $(ψ,β)$-diffe…
In this paper asymptotic equalities are found for the least upper bounds of deviations in the uniform metric of de la Vallee Poussin sums on classes of 2π-periodic (ψ,β)-differentiable functions admitting an analytic continuation into the given strip of the complex plane. As a consequence, asymptotic equalities are obtained on classes of convolutions of periodic functions generated by the Neumann kernel and the polyharmonic Poisson kernel.
Notions of the orthogonality and convolution orthogonality are explored with the use of the Kontorovich-Lebedev transform and its convolution. New classes of the corresponding orthogonal polynomials and functions are investigated. Integral representations, orthogonality relations and explicit expressions are established.
For quasianalytic Denjoy--Carleman differentiable function classes $C^Q$ where the weight sequence $Q=(Q_k)$ is log-convex, stable under derivations, of moderate growth and also an $\mathcal L$-intersection (see 1.6), we prove the following: The category of $C^Q$-mappings is cartesian closed in the sense that $C^Q(E,C^Q(F,G))\cong C^Q(E\times F, G)$ for convenient vector spaces. Applications to manifolds of mappings are given: The group of $C^Q$-diffeomorphisms is a regular $C^Q$-Lie group but not better.
Let $d\ge 2$ and $T$ be the convolution operator $Tf(x)=\int_{\reals^{d-1}} f(x'-t,x_d-|t|^2)\,dt$, which is is bounded from $L^{(d+1)/d}(\reals^d)$ to $L^{d+1}(\reals^d)$. We show that any critical point $f\in L^{(d+1)/d}$ of the functional $\norm{Tf}_{d+1}/\norm{f}_{(d+1)/d}$ is infinitely differentiable, and that $|x|^δf\in L^{(d+1)/d}$ for some $δ>0$. In particular, this holds for all extremizers of the associated inequality. This is done by exploiting a generalized Euler-Lagrange equation, and certain weighted norm inequalities for $T$.
For Denjoy--Carleman differential function classes $C^M$ where the weight sequence $M=(M_k)$ is logarithmically convex, stable under derivations, and non-quasianalytic of moderate growth, we prove the following: A mapping is $C^M$ if it maps $C^M$-curves to $C^M$-curves. The category of $C^M$-mappings is cartesian closed in the sense that $C^M(E,C^M(F,G))\cong C^M(E\x F, G)$ for convenient vector spaces. Applications to manifolds of mappings are given: The group of $C^M$-diffeomorphisms is a $C^M$-Lie group but not better.
