In this paper we prove the global well-posedness for the three-dimensional Euler-Boussinesq system with axisymmetric initial data without swirl. This system couples the Euler equation with a transport-diffusion equation governing the temperature.
In this paper we prove a global well-posedness result for tridimensional Navier-Stokes-Boussinesq system with axisymmetric initial data. This system couples Navier-Stokes equations with a transport equation governing the density.
In this paper we prove the global well-posedness for a three-dimensional Boussinesq system with axisymmetric initial data. This system couples the Navier-Stokes equation with a transport-diffusion equation governing the temperature. Our result holds uniformly with respect to the heat conductivity coefficient $κ\geq 0$ which may vanish.
In this paper, we will show that solutions of the three-dimensional non-resistive and non-diffusive MHD-Boussinesq system are globally regular if the initial data is axisymmetric and the swirl components of the velocity and the magnetic vorticity are zero. Our main result extends previous ones on the three-dimensional non-resistive MHD system and non-diffusive Boussinesq system, and the method used here can also be applied to the magnetic Rayleigh-Bénard convection system.
This work concerns the global well-posedness problem for the 3D axisymmetric viscous Boussinesq system with critical rough initial data. More precisely, we aim to extending our recent result \cite{Hanachi-Houamed-Zerguine} to the case of initial data of measure type. To this end, we should first develop some notions of axisymmetric measures in a general context, then, in the spirit of \cite{Gallay-Sverak}, we prove the global wellposedness result provided that the atomic parts of the initial measures are small enough.
The contribution of this paper will be focused on the global existence and uniqueness topic in three-dimensional case of the axisymmetric viscous Boussinesq system in critical Lebesgue spaces. We aim at deriving analogous results for the classical two-dimensional and three-dimensional axisymmetric Navier-Stokes equations recently obtained in \cite{Gallay,Gallay-Sverak}. Roughly speaking, we show essentially that if the initial data $(v_0,ρ_0)$ is axisymmetric and $(ω_0,ρ_0)$ belongs to the critical space $L^1(Ω)\times L^1(\mathbb{R}^3)$, with $ω_0$ is the initial vorticity associated to $v_0$ …
This paper is devoted to the global existence and uniqueness results for the three-dimensional Boussinesq system with axisymmetric initial data $v^{0}{\in}B_{2,1}^{5/2}(\RR^3)$ and$ $ρ^{0}{\in}B_{2,1}^{1/2}(\RR^3)\cap L^{p}(\RR^3)$ with $p>6.$ This system couples the incompressible Euler equations with a transport-diffusion equation governing the density. In this case the Beale-Kato-Majda criterion is not known to be valid and to circumvent this difficulty we use in a crucial way some geometric properties of the vorticity.
The current paper is principally motivated by establishing the global well-posedness to the three-dimensional Boussinesq system with zero diffusivity in the setting of axisymmetric flows without swirling with $v_0\in H^{\frac12}(\mathbb{R}^3)\cap \dot{B}^{0}_{3,1}(\mathbb{R}^3)$ and density $ρ_0\in L^2(\mathbb{R}^3)\cap \dot{B}^{0}_{3,1}(\mathbb{R}^3)$. This respectively enhances the two results recently accomplished in \cite{Danchin-Paicu1, Hmidi-Rousset}. Our formalism is inspired, in particular for the first part from \cite{Abidi} concerning the axisymmetric Navier-Stokes equations once $v_…
In this paper we study a fractional diffusion Boussinesq model which couples the incompressible Euler equation for the velocity and a transport equation with fractional diffusion for the temperature. We prove global well-posedness results.
We consider the full Navier-Stokes-Fourier system in the singular regime of small Mach and large Reynolds and Peclet numbers, with ill prepared initial data on an unbounded domain in the three dimensional Euclidean space with a compact boundary. We perform the singular limit in the framework of weak solutions and identify the Euler-Boussinesq system as the target problem.
In this paper we derive kinematic relations for quantities involving the rate of strain tensor and the Hessian of the pressure for solutions of the 3D Euler equations and the 2D Boussinesq equations. Using these kinematic relations, we prove new blow up criteria and obtain conditions for the absence of type I singularity for these equations. We obtain both global and localized versions of the results. Some of the new blow up criteria and type I conditions improve previous results of [3].
We address the well-posedness of the 2D (Euler)-Boussinesq equations with zero viscosity and positive diffusivity in the polygonal-like domains with Yudovich's type data, which gives a positive answer to part of the questions raised in 2011 [Lai-Pan-Zhao, Initial boundary value problem for two-dimensional viscous Boussinesq equations, Arch. Ration. Mech. Anal. 199 (2011), no. 3, 739-760]. Our analysis on the the polygonal-like domains essentially relies on the recent elliptic regularity results for such domains proved in 2013 [Bardos-Plinio-Temam, The Euler equations in planar nonsmooth convex…
In this paper, we investigate the Cauchy problem for the tridimensional Boussinesq equations with horizontal dissipation. Under the assumption that the initial data is an axisymmetric without swirl, we prove the global well-posedness for this system. In the absence of vertical dissipation, there is no smoothing effect on the vertical derivatives. To make up this shortcoming, we first establish a magic relationship between $\frac{u^{r}}{r}$ and $\frac{ω_θ}{r}$ by taking full advantage of the structure of the axisymmetric fluid without swirl and some tricks in harmonic analysis. This together wi…

Singularity formation of the 3D incompressible Euler equations is known to be extremely challenging. In [18], Elgindi proved that the 3D axisymmetric Euler equations with no swirl and $C^{1,α}$ initial velocity develops a finite time singularity. Inspired by Elgindi's work, we proved that the 3D axisymmetric Euler and 2D Boussinesq equations with $C^{1,α}$ initial velocity and boundary develop a stable asymptotically (or approximately) self-similar finite time singularity [8]. On the other hand, the authors of [35,52] recently showed that blowup solutions to the 3D Euler equations are hydrodyn…
Inspired by the numerical evidence of a potential 3D Euler singularity by Luo-Hou [30,31] and the recent breakthrough by Elgindi [11] on the singularity formation of the 3D Euler equation without swirl with $C^{1,α}$ initial velocity, we prove the finite time singularity for the 2D Boussinesq and the 3D axisymmetric Euler equations with boundary and $C^{1,α}$ initial data for the velocity (and density in the case of Boussinesq equations). Our finite time blowup solution for the 3D Euler equations and the singular solution considered in [30,31] share many essential features, including the symme…
We give an example of a well posed, finite energy, 2D incompressible active scalar equation with the same scaling as the surface quasi-geostrophic equation and prove that it can produce finite time singularities. In spite of its simplicity, this seems to be the first such example. Further, we construct explicit solutions of the 2D Boussinesq equations whose gradients grow exponentially in time for all time. In addition, we introduce a variant of the 2D Boussinesq equations which is perhaps a more faithful companion of the 3D axisymmetric Euler equations than the usual 2D Boussinesq equations.
The dynamics along the particle trajectories for the 3D axisymmetric Euler equations in an infinite cylinder are considered. It is shown that if the inflow-outflow is highly oscillating in time, the corresponding Euler flow cannot keep the uniformly smooth laminar profile provided that the swirling component is not zero. In the proof, Frenet-Serret formulas and orthonormal moving frame are essentially used.
In this paper, for the 3-D Navier-Stokes-Boussinesq system with horizontal dissipation, where there is no smoothing effect on the vertical derivatives, we prove a uniqueness result of solutions $ (u,ρ)\in L^{\infty}_T\big( H^{0,s}\times H^{0,1-s}\big)$ with $ (\nabla_h u,\nabla_hρ)\in L^{2}_T\big( H^{0,s}\times H^{0,1-s}\big)$ and $s\in [1/2,1]$. As a consequence, we improve the conditions stated in the paper \cite{Miao} in order to obtain a global well-posedness result in the case of axisymmetric initial data.
In this article we will introduce a new model to describe the leading order behavior of an ideal and axisymmetric fluid moving in a very narrow domain. After providing a formal derivation of the model, we will prove the well-posedness and provide a rigorous mathematical justification for the formal derivation under a new sign condition. Finally, a blowup result regarding this model will be discussed as well.
We revisit a family of infinite-energy solutions of the 3D incompressible Euler equations proposed by Gibbon et al. [9] and shown to blowup in finite time by Constantin [6]. By adding a damping term to the momentum equation we examine how the damping coefficient can arrest this blowup. Further, we show that similar infinite-energy solutions of the inviscid 3D Boussinesq system with damping can develop a singularity in finite time as long as the damping effects are insufficient to arrest the (undamped) 3D Euler blowup in the associated damped 3D Euler system.
We study the global well-posedness of a two-dimensional Boussinesq system which couples the incompressible Euler equation for the velocity and a transport equation with fractional diffusion of type $|\DD|^α$ for the temperature. We prove that for $α>1,$ there exists a unique global solution for initial data with critical regularities.
We investigate the self-similar singularity of a 1D model for the 3D axisymmetric Euler equations, which is motivated by a particular singularity formation scenario observed in numerical computation. We prove the existence of a discrete family of self-similar profiles for this model and analyze their far-field properties. The self-similar profiles we find agree with direct simulation of the model and seem to have some stability.
This paper deals with the global well-posedness of the 3D axisymmetric Euler equations for initial data lying in critical Besov spaces $B_{p,1}^{1+3/p}$. In this case the BKM criterion is not known to be valid and to circumvent this difficulty we use a new decomposition of the vorticity.
The travelling wave problem for a particular bidirectional Whitham system modelling surface water waves is under consideration. This system firstly appeared in [Dinvay, Dutykh, Kalisch 2018], where it was numerically shown to be stable and a good approximation to the incompressible Euler equations. In subsequent papers [Dinvay 2018], [Dinvay, Selberg, Tesfahun 2019] the initial-value problem was studied and well-posedness in classical Sobolev spaces was proved. Here we prove existence of solitary wave solutions and provide their asymptotic description. Our proof relies on a variational approac…
In this work, we consider a model of forced axisymmetric flows which is derived from the inviscid Boussinesq equations. What makes these equations unusual is the boundary conditions they are expected to satisfy and the fact that the boundary is part of the unknown. We show that these flows give rise to an unusual Monge-Ampere equations for which we prove the existence and the uniqueness of a variational solution. We take advantage of these Monge-Ampere equations and construct a solution to the model.
We construct stationary axisymmetric solutions of the Euler-Poisson equations, which govern the internal structure of polytropic gaseous stars, with small constant angular velocity when the adiabatic exponent $γ$ belongs to $(\frac65,\frac32]$. The problem is formulated as a nonlinear integral equation, and is solved by iteration technique. By this method, not only we get the existence, but also we clarify properties of the solutions such as the physical vacuum condition and oblateness of the star surface.
In recent works we have constructed axisymmetric solutions to the Euler-Poisson equations which give mathematical models of slowly uniformly rotating gaseous stars. We try to extend this result to the study of solutions of the Einstein-Euler equations in the framework of the general theory of relativity. Although many interesting studies have been done about axisymmetric metric in the general theory of relativity, they are restricted to the region of the vacuum. Mathematically rigorous existence theorem of the axisymmetric interior solutions of the stationary metric corresponding to the energy…
We address the structural stability of 3-D axisymmetric subsonic flows with nonzero swirl for the steady compressible Euler-Poisson system in a cylinder supplemented with non small boundary data. A special Helmholtz decomposition of the velocity field is introduced for 3-D axisymmetric flow with a nonzero swirl(=angular momentum density) component. With the newly introduced decomposition, a quasilinear elliptic system of second order is derived from the elliptic modes in Euler-Poisson system for subsonic flows. Due to the nonzero swirl, the main difficulties lie in the solvability of a singula…
We construct a class of global, dynamical solutions to the 3d Euler equations near the stationary state given by uniform "rigid body" rotation. These solutions are axisymmetric, of Sobolev regularity, have non-vanishing swirl and scatter linearly, thanks to the dispersive effect induced by the rotation. To establish this, we introduce a framework that builds on the symmetries of the problem and precisely captures the anisotropic, dispersive mechanism due to rotation. This enables a fine analysis of the geometry of nonlinear interactions and allows us to propagate sharp decay bounds, which is c…
We consider the 3D axisymmetric Euler equations without swirl on some bounded axial symmetric domains. In this setting, well-posedness is well known due to the essentially 2D geometry. The quantity $ω^θ/r$ plays the role of vorticity in 2D. First, we prove that the gradient of $ω^θ/r$ can grow at most double exponentially with improving a priori bound close to the axis of symmetry. Next, on the unit ball, we show that at the boundary, one can achieve double exponential growth of the gradient of $ω^θ/r$.
In this paper we study the finite time blow-up problem for the axisymmetric 3D incompressible Euler equations with swirl. The evolution equations for the deformation tensor and the vorticity are reduced considerably in this case. Under the assumption of local minima for the pressure on the axis of symmetry with respect to the radial variations we show that the solution blows-up in finite time. If we further assume that the second radial derivative vanishes on the axis, then system reduces to the form of Constantin-Lax-Majda equations, and can be integrated explicitly.
In connection with the recent proposal for possible singularity formation at the boundary for solutions of 3d axi-symmetric incompressible Euler's equations (Luo and Hou, 2013), we study models for the dynamics at the boundary and show that they exhibit a finite-time blow-up from smooth data.
We consider the initial value problem for the inviscid Primitive and Boussinesq equations in three spatial dimensions. We recast both systems as an abstract Euler-type system and apply the methods of convex integration of De Lellis and Székelyhidi to show the existence of infinitely many global weak solutions of the studied equations for general initial data. We also introduce an appropriate notion of dissipative solutions and show the existence of suitable initial data which generate infinitely many dissipative solutions.
We derive a semi-geostrophic variational balance model for the three-dimensional Euler--Boussinesq equations on the non-traditional $f$-plane under the rigid lid approximation. The model is obtained by a small Rossby number expansion in the Hamilton principle, with no other approximations made. We allow for a fully non-hydrostatic flow and do not neglect the horizontal components of the Coriolis parameter, i.e., we do not make the so-called "traditional approximation". The resulting balance models have the same structure as the "$L_1$ balance model" for the primitive equations: a kinematic bal…
In this paper we are interested in geometric aspects of blowup in the axisymmetric 3D Euler equations with swirl on a cylinder. Writing the equations in Lagrangian form for the flow derivative along either the axis or the boundary and imposing oddness on the vertical component of the flow, we extend some blowup criteria due to Chae, Constantin, and Wu related to assumptions on the sign of the pressure Hessian. In addition we give a geometric interpretation of the results, both in terms of the local geometry along trajectories and in terms of the Riemannian geometry of the volume-preserving dif…
We investigate the large time behavior of an axisymmetric model for the 3D Euler equations. In \cite{HL09}, Hou and Lei proposed a 3D model for the axisymmetric incompressible Euler and Navier-Stokes equations with swirl. This model shares many properties of the 3D incompressible Euler and Navier-Stokes equations. The main difference between the 3D model of Hou and Lei and the reformulated 3D Euler and Navier-Stokes equations is that the convection term is neglected in the 3D model. In \cite{HSW09}, the authors proved that the 3D inviscid model can develop a finite time singularity starting fr…
In this paper, we mainly investigate the tridimensional incompressible axisymmetric Euler equations without swirl in the whole space. Specifically, we prove the global existence of weak solutions if the swirl component of initial vorticity $w_0^θ$ satisfies that $\frac{w_0^θ}r\in L^1\cap L^p({\Bbb R}^3)$ for some $p>1$. To achieve this goal, we establish the $L_{\rm loc}^{2+α}({\Bbb R}^3)$ estimate of velocity fields for some $α>0$, which is innovative to the best of our knowledge. Our result extends previous work in the literature.

We consider stationary axisymmetric solutions of the Euler-Poisson equations, which govern the internal structure of barotropic gaseous stars. We take the general form of the equation of states which cover polytropic gaseous stars indexed by $6/5<γ<2$ and also white dwarfs. A generic condition of the existence of stationary solutions with differential rotation is given, and the existence of slowly rotating configurations near spherically symmetric equilibria is shown. The problem is formulated as a nonlinear integral equation, and is solved by an application of the infinite dimensional implici…
We prove local blow-up criterion for smooth axisymmetric solutions to the 3D incompressible Euler equation. If the vorticity satisfies $ \intl_{0}^{t_*} (t_*-t) \| ω(t)\|_{ L^\infty(B(x_{ \ast}, R_0))} dt <+\infty$ for a ball $B(x_{ \ast}, R_0)$ away from the axis of symmetry, then there exists no singularity at $t=t_*$ in the torus $T(x_*, R)$ generated by rotation of the ball $B(x_{ \ast}, R_0)$ around the axis. This implies that possible singularity at $t=t_*$ in the torus $T(x_*, R)$ is excluded if the vorticity satisfies the blow-up rate $ \|ø(t)\|_{L^\infty (T(x_*, R))}= O\left(\frac{1}{…
This paper concerns with the existence of transonic shocks for steady Euler flows in a 3-D axisymmetric cylindrical nozzle, which are governed by the Euler equations with the slip boundary condition on the wall of the nozzle and a receiver pressure at the exit. Mathematically, it can be formulated as a free boundary problem with the shock front being the free boundary to be determined. In dealing with the free boundary problem, one of the key points is determining the position of the shock front. To this end, a free boundary problem for the linearized Euler system will be proposed, whose solut…
In this paper, we consider the Cauchy problem for $(abcd)$-Boussinesq system posed on one- and two-dimensional Euclidean spaces. This model, initially introduced by Bona, Chen, and Saut, describes a small-amplitude waves on the surface of an inviscid fluid, and derived as a first-order approximation of incompressible, irrotational Euler equations. We mainly establish the ill-posedness of the system under various parameter regimes, which generalize the result of the one-dimensional BBM-BBM case by Chen and Liu. Most of results established here, we obtain the optimal result for two-dimensional B…
