(Abridged) Our aim is to investigate whether the presence of baryons can have any significant influence on the properties of the local Hubble flow which has proved to be "cold". We use two cosmological zoom simulations in the standard LCDM cosmology with the same set of initial conditions to study the formation of a local group-like system within a sphere of ~7 Mpc/h. The first one is a pure dark matter simulation (runDM) while a complete treatment of the physics of baryons is introduced in the second one (runB). We found that galaxies identified in runB and their corresponding dark matter haloes in runDM have very similar spatial distributions and dynamical properties on large scales. Then, when analyzing the velocity field and the deviation from a pure Hubble flow in both simulations, namely when computing the dispersion of peculiar velocities of galaxies σ*(R) and those of their corresponding dark matter haloes in runDM, we found no particular differences for distances R=1 to 8 Mpc from the local group mass center. The results indicate that the "true" σ*(R) values can be estimated from the pure dark matter simulation with a mean error of 3 km/s when dark matter haloes are selected with maximum circular velocities of Vc$\ge$30 km/s, corresponding to a population of dark matter haloes in runB that host galaxies. By investigating the properties of the Hubble flow at distances R~0.7 to 3 Mpc, we also found that the estimation of the total mass enclosed at the radius of the zero-velocity surface R0, using the spherical infall model adapted to LCDM, can be underestimated by at least 50%.
Using a suite of N-body simulations in different Cold Dark Matter (CDM) scenarios, with cosmological constant (\LCDM) and without (OCDM, SCDM), we study the Hubble flow (\sigh) in Local Volumes (LV) around Local Group (LG) like objects found in these simulations, and compare the numerical results with the most recent observations. We show that \LCDM and OCDM models exhibit the same behavior of \sigh. Hence, we demonstrate that the observed coldness of the Hubble flow is not likely to be a manifestation of the dark energy, contrary to previous claims. The coldness does not constitute a problem …
Small-scale inhomogeneities in the baryon density around recombination have been proposed as a solution to the tension between local and global determinations of the Hubble constant. These baryon clumping models make distinct predictions for the cosmic microwave background anisotropy power spectra on small angular scales. We use recent data from the Atacama Cosmology Telescope to test these predictions. No evidence for baryon clumping is found, assuming a range of parameterizations for time-independent baryon density probability distribution functions. The inferred Hubble constant remains in s…
We investigate constraints on the Hubble constant ($H_0$) using Baryon Acoustic Oscillations (BAO) and baryon density measurements from Big Bang Nucleosynthesis (BBN). We start by investigating the tension between galaxy BAO measurements and those using the Lyman-$α$ forest, within a Bayesian framework. Using the latest results from eBOSS DR14 we find that the probability of this tension being statistical is $\simeq6.3\%$ assuming flat $Λ$CDM. We measure $H_0 = 67.6\pm1.1$ km s$^{-1}$ Mpc$^{-1}$, with a weak dependence on the BBN prior used, in agreement with results from Planck Cosmic Microwa…
We use the Busca et al. (2012) measurement of the Hubble parameter at redshift z = 2.3 in conjunction with 21 lower z measurements, from Simon et al. (2005), Gaztanaga et al. (2009), Stern et al. (2010), and Moresco et al. (2012), to place constraints on model parameters of constant and time-evolving dark energy cosmological models. The inclusion of the new Busca et al. (2012) measurement results in H(z) constraints significantly more restrictive than those derived by Farooq et al. (2012). These H(z) constraints are now more restrictive than those that follow from current Type Ia supernova (SN…
In this paper, a parametrization describing the kinematical state of the universe via cosmographic approach is considered, where the minimum input is the assumption of the cosmological principle, i.e. the Friedmann-Robertson-Walker metric. A distinguished feature is that the result does not depend on any gravity theory and dark energy models. As a result, a series of cosmographic parameters (deceleration parameter $q_0$, jerk parameter $j_0$ and snap parameter $s_0$) are constrained from the cosmic observations which include type Ia supernovae (SN) Union2, the Baryon Acoustic Oscillation (BAO)…
We use the Radial Baryon Acoustic Oscillation (RBAO) measurements, distant type Ia supernovae (SNe Ia), the observational $H(z)$ data (OHD) and the Cosmic Microwave Background (CMB) shift parameter data to constrain cosmological parameters of $Λ$CDM and XCDM cosmologies and further examine the role of OHD and SNe Ia data in cosmological constraints. We marginalize the likelihood function over $h$ by integrating the probability density $P\propto e^{-χ^{2}/2}$ to obtain the best fitting results and the confidence regions in the $Ω_{m}-Ω_Λ$ plane. With the combination analysis for both of the {\rm…
We perform the first test of dark matter (DM) stress-energy evolution through cosmic history, using cosmic microwave background measurements supplemented with baryon acoustic oscillation data and the Hubble Space Telescope key project data. We constrain the DM equation of state (EoS) in 8 redshift bins, and its sound speed and (shear) viscosity in 9 redshift bins, finding no convincing evidence for non-$Λ$CDM values in any of the redshift bins. Despite this enlarged parameter space, the sound speed and viscosity are constrained relatively well at late times (due to the inclusion of CMB lensing…
We analyse the large-scale correlation function of the 6dF Galaxy Survey (6dFGS) and detect a Baryon Acoustic Oscillation (BAO) signal. The 6dFGS BAO detection allows us to constrain the distance-redshift relation at z_{\rm eff} = 0.106. We achieve a distance measure of D_V(z_{\rm eff}) = 456\pm27 Mpc and a measurement of the distance ratio, r_s(z_d)/D_V(z_{\rm eff}) = 0.336\pm0.015 (4.5% precision), where r_s(z_d) is the sound horizon at the drag epoch z_d. The low effective redshift of 6dFGS makes it a competitive and independent alternative to Cepheids and low-z supernovae in constraining t…
The Baryon Acoustic Oscillations (BAO) provide a standard ruler for studying cosmic expansion. The recent observations of BAO in SDSS DR9 and DR11 take measurements of $H(z)$ at several different redshifts. It is argued that the behavior of dark energy could be constrained more effectively by adding high-redshift Hubble parameter data, such as the SDSS DR11 measurement of $H(z) = 222\pm7$ km/sec/Mpc at z = 2.34. In this paper, we investigate the significance of these BAO data in the flat $Λ$CDM model, by combining them with the recent observational data of the Hubble constant from local distan…
We examine the impact of baryon acoustic oscillation (BAO) scale measurements on the discrepancy between the value of the Hubble constant ($H_0$) inferred from the local distance ladder and from Planck cosmic microwave background (CMB) data. While the BAO data alone cannot constrain $H_0$, we show that combining the latest BAO results with WMAP, Atacama Cosmology Telescope (ACT), or South Pole Telescope (SPT) CMB data produces values of $H_0$ that are $2.4-3.1σ$ lower than the distance ladder, independent of Planck, and that this downward pull was less apparent in some earlier analyses that us…
The newly established luminosity functions of high-z galaxies at $4 \lesssim z \lesssim 10$ can provide a stringent check on dark matter models that aim to explain the core properties of dwarf galaxies. The cores of dwarf spheroidal galaxies are understood to be too large to be accounted for by free streaming of warm dark matter without overly suppressing the formation of such galaxies. Here we demonstrate with cosmological simulations that wave dark matter, $ψ$DM, appropriate for light bosons such as axions, does not suffer this problem, given a boson mass of $m_ψ \ge 1.2 \times 10^{-22}{\,\r…
We investigate the origin of $Λ$CDM parameter constraints in weak lensing, with a focus on the Hubble constant. We explain why current cosmic shear data are sensitive to the parameter combination $S_8 \propto σ_8 Ω_m^{0.5}$, improving upon previous studies through use of the halo model. Motivated by the ongoing discrepancy in measurements of the Hubble constant from high and low redshift, we explain why cosmic shear provides almost no constraint on $H_0$ by showing how the lensing angular power spectrum depends on physical length scales in the dark matter distribution. We derive parameter cons…
We compile a complete collection of reliable Hubble parameter $H(z)$ data to redshift $z \leq 2.36$ and use them with the Gaussian Process method to determine continuous $H(z)$ functions for various data subsets. From these continuous $H(z)$'s, summarizing across the data subsets considered, we find $H_0\sim 67 \pm 4\,\rm km/s/Mpc$, more consistent with the recent lower values determined using a variety of techniques. In most data subsets, we see a cosmological deceleration-acceleration transition at 2$σ$ significance, with the data subsets transition redshifts varying over $0.33<z_{\rm da}<1.…
In this paper we use all available baryon acoustic oscillation, Hubble parameter, and quasar angular size data to constrain six dark energy cosmological models, both spatially flat and non-flat. Depending on the model and data combination considered, these data mildly favor closed spatial hypersurfaces (by as much as $1.7σ$) and dark energy dynamics (up to a little over $2σ$) over a cosmological constant $Λ$. The data also favor, at $1.8σ$ to $3.4σ$, depending on the model and data combination, a lower Hubble constant than what is measured from the local expansion rate.
Cosmic microwave background (CMB) anisotropy (spatial inhomogeneity) data provide the tightest constraints on the Hubble constant, matter density, spatial curvature, and dark energy dynamics. Other data, sensitive to the evolution of only the spatially homogeneous part of the cosmological model, such as Type Ia supernova apparent magnitude, baryon acoustic oscillation distance, and Hubble parameter measurements, can be used in conjunction with the CMB data to more tightly constrain parameters. Recent joint analyses of CMB and such non-CMB data indicate that slightly closed spatial hypersurface…
We use Pantheon Type Ia supernova (SN Ia) apparent magnitude, DES-3yr binned SN Ia apparent magnitude, Hubble parameter, and baryon acoustic oscillation measurements to constrain six spatially flat and non-flat cosmological models. These sets of data provide mutually consistent cosmological constraints in the six cosmological models we study. A joint analysis of these data sets provides model-independent estimates of the Hubble constant, $H_0=68.8\pm1.8\ \rm{km \ s^{-1} \ Mpc^{-1}}$, and the non-relativistic matter density parameter, $Ω_{\rm m_0}=0.294\pm0.020$. Although the joint constraints …
The difference from 4 to 6 $σ$ in the Hubble constant ($H_0$) between the values observed with the local (Cepheids and Supernovae Ia, SNe Ia) and the high-z probes (CMB obtained by the Planck data) still challenges the astrophysics and cosmology community. Previous analysis has shown that there is an evolution in the Hubble constant that scales as $f(z)=\mathcal{H}_{0}/(1+z)^η$, where $\mathcal{H}_0$ is $H_{0}(z=0)$ and $η$ is the evolutionary parameter. Here, we investigate if this evolution still holds by using the SNe Ia gathered in the Pantheon sample and the BAOs. We assume $H_{0}=70 \tex…
We use the Risaliti & Lusso (2015) compilation of 808 X-ray and UV flux measurements of quasars (QSOs) in the redshift range $0.061 \leq z \leq 6.28$, alone and in conjuction with baryon acoustic oscillation (BAO) and Hubble parameter [$H(z)$] measurements, to constrain cosmological parameters in six cosmological models. The QSO data constraints are significantly weaker than, but consistent with, those from the $H(z)$ + BAO data. A joint analysis of the QSO + $H(z)$ + BAO data is consistent with the current standard model, spatially-flat $Λ$CDM, but mildly favors closed spatial hypersurfaces a…
We constrain cosmological parameters using only Hubble parameter data and quantify the impact of future Hubble parameter measurements on parameter estimation for the most typical dark energy models. We first constrain cosmological parameters using 52 current Hubble parameter data including the Hubble constant measurement from the Hubble Space Telescope. Then we simulate the baryon acoustic oscillation signals from WFIRST (Wide-Field Infrared Survey Telescope) covering the redshift range of $z\in [0.5, 2]$ and the redshift drift data from E-ELT (European Extremely Large Telescope) in the redshi…
We use all available baryon acoustic oscillation distance measurements and Hubble parameter data to constrain the cosmological constant $Λ$, dynamical dark energy, and spatial curvature in simple cosmological models. We find that the consensus spatially flat $Λ$CDM model provides a reasonable fit to the data, but depending on the Hubble constant prior and cosmological model, it can be a little more than 1$σ$ away from the best-fit model, which can favor mild dark energy dynamics or non-flat spatial hypersurfaces.
We use Hubble parameter versus redshift data from Stern, et al(2010) and Gaztañaga, et al (2009) to place constraints on model parameters of constant and time-evolving dark energy cosmological models. These constraints are consistent with (through not as restrictive as) those derived from supernova Type Ia magnitude-redshift data. However, they are more restrictive than those derived from galaxy cluster angular diameter distance, and comparable with those from gamma-ray burst and lookback time data. A joint analysis of the Hubble parameter data with more restrictive baryon acoustic oscillation…
In the paper, we consider two models in which dark energy is coupled with either dust matter or dark matter, and discuss the conditions that allow more time for structure formation to take place at high redshifts. These models are expected to have a larger age of the universe than that of $Λ$CDM [universe consists of cold dark matter (CDM) and dark energy (a cosmological constant, $Λ$)], so it can explain the formation of high redshift gravitationally bound systems which the $Λ$CDM model cannot interpret. We use the observational Hubble parameter data (OHD) and Hubble parameter obtained from c…
Even though the Hubble constant cannot be significantly determined by the low-redshift Baryon Acoustic Oscillation (BAO) data alone, it can be tightly constrained once the high-redshift BAO data are combined. Combining BAO data from 6dFGS, BOSS DR11 clustering of galaxies, WiggleZ and $z=2.34$ from BOSS DR11 quasar Lyman-$α$ forest lines, we get $H_0=68.17^{+1.55}_{-1.56}$ km s$^{-1}$ Mpc$^{-1}$. In addition, adopting the the simultaneous measurements of $H(z)$ and $D_A(z)$ from the two-dimensional two-point correlation function from BOSS DR9 CMASS sample and two-dimensional matter power spect…
Using sedimentary and eclipse-based measurements of the lunar recession velocity, we derive a new local-Universe measurement of the Hubble constant ($H_0$) from the recession rate of Earth's Moon. Taking into account the effects of tides, we find a value of $H_{0}$ = 63.01 $\pm$ 1.79 km s$^{-1}$ Mpc$^{-1}$, which is in approximate agreement with the Planck space mission's measurement using the cosmic microwave background (CMB) and base $Λ$CDM. Our new measurement represents the first ever model-independent, single-step measurement of the Universe's current expansion rate. This is also the firs…
We investigate the Affleck-Dine baryogenesis after D-term inflation with a positive Hubble-induced mass term for a B-L flat direction. It stays at a large field value during D-term inflation, and just after inflation ends it starts to oscillate around the origin of the potential due to the positive Hubble-induced mass term. The phase direction is kicked by higher-dimensional Kahler potentials to generate the B-L asymmetry. The scenario predicts nonzero baryonic isocurvature perturbations, which would be detected by future observations of CMB fluctuations. We also provide a D-term inflation mod…

Late times dark energy transitions at redshifts $z \ll 0.1$ can raise the predicted value of the Hubble constant to the SH0ES value, $74.03\pm 1.42$ (km s$^{-1}$ Mpc$^{-1})$ or more, while providing an equally good fit as $Λ$CDM at $67.73 \pm 0.41$ to higher redshift data, in particular from the cosmic microwave background and baryon acoustic oscillations. These models however do not fully resolve the true source of tension between the distance ladder and high redshift observations: the local calibration of supernovae luminosities well out into the Hubble flow. When tested in this manner by tr…
Cold Dark Matter (CDM) is a crucial constituent of the current concordance cosmological model. Having a vanishing equation of state (EoS), its energy density scales with the inverse cosmic volume and is thus uniquely described by a single number, its present abundance. We test the inverse cosmic volume law for Dark Matter (DM) by allowing its EoS to vary independently in eight redshift bins in the range $z=10^5$ and $z=0$. We use the latest measurements of the Cosmic Microwave Background radiation from the Planck satellite and supplement them with Baryon Acoustic Oscillation (BAO) data from th…

Cosmology is intrinsically intertwined with questions in fundamental physics. The existence of non-baryonic dark matter requires new physics beyond the Standard Model of elemenatary-particle interactions and Einstein's general relativity, as does the accelerating expansion of the universe. Current tensions between various cosmological measurements may be harbingers of yet more new physics. Progress on understanding dark matter and cosmic acceleration requires long term, high-precision measurements and excellent control of systematics, demanding observational programs that are often outside the…
Reducing the uncertainty on the Hubble constant up to 35\% with an improved statistical analysis: different best-fit likelihoods for Supernovae Ia, Baryon Acoustic Oscillations, Quasars, and Gamma-Ray Bursts
I present the numerical solution of equations of the evolution of a universe containing background fluids (radiation, dark matter and baryonic matter), plus a scalar matter field with a hybrid potential that is a combination of exponential potential and power-law potential. The plot of the evolution of density parameters is compatible with our universe; and today's values of density parameters of dark energy, dark matter, baryonic matter, and Hubble parameter, and the age and size of our universe, found from this model, are very close to (and some times the same as) measured values.
We use 21 Hubble parameter versus redshift data points, from Gaztañaga et al. (2009), Stern et al. (2010), and Moresco et al. (2012), to place constraints on model parameters of constant and time-evolving dark energy cosmologies. This is the largest set of H(z) data considered to date. The inclusion of the 8 new Moresco et al. (2012) measurements results in H(z) constraints more restrictive than those derived by Chen & Ratra (2011b). These constraints are now almost as restrictive as those that follow from current Type Ia supernova (SNIa) apparent magnitude versus redshift data (Suzuki et al. …
This paper constraints dynamic dark energy equation of state (EoS) parameters using the type Ia supernovae from Union 2.1 dataset. The paper also discusses the dependency of dynamic dark energy EoS parameters on the chosen or assumed value of the Hubble Constant. To understand the correlation between the Hubble Constant values and measured dynamic dark energy EoS parameters, we used recent surveys being done through various techniques such as cosmic microwave background studies, gravitational waves, baryonic acoustic oscillations and standard candles to set values for different Hubble Constant…
The EDGES experiment has observed an excess trough ($-500^{+200}_{-500}$ mK) in the brightness temperature $T_{21}$ of the 21cm absorption line of neutral Hydrogen atom (HI) from the era of cosmic dawn ($z \simeq 17.2$). We consider possible interaction of Dark Matter and Dark Energy fluid along with the cooling off of the baryon matter by its collision with Dark Matter to explain the observed excess trough of $T_{21}$. We make use of three different Dark Matter-Dark Energy (DM-DE) interaction models to taste the viability of those models in explaining the EDGES results. The evolution of Hubbl…
A new method is proposed to measure the Hubble constant H0 through the mean transmitted flux observed from high redshift quasars. A semi-analytical model for the cosmological-independent volume density distribution function is adopted which allows one to obtain constraints over the cosmological parameters once a moderate knowlegde of the InterGalactic Medium (IGM) parameters is assumed. By assuming a flat LCDM cosmology, we show that such method alone cannot provide good constraints on the pair of free parameters (h, Omega_m). However, it is possible possible to break the degeneracy on the mas…
Recent Cosmic Microwave Background measurements at high multipoles from the South Pole Telescope and from the Atacama Cosmology Telescope seem to disagree in their conclusions for the neutrino and dark radiation properties. In this paper we set new bounds on the dark radiation and neutrino properties in different cosmological scenarios combining the ACT and SPT data with the nine year data release of the Wilkinson Microwave Anisotropy Probe (WMAP9), Baryon Acoustic Oscillation data, Hubble Telescope measurements of the Hubble constant, and Supernovae Ia luminosity distance data. In the standar…
Ratios of line of sight baryon acoustic oscillation (BAO) peaks at two redshifts only depend upon the average dark energy equation of states between those redshifts, as the dependence on anchors such as the BAO scale or the Hubble constant is canceled in a ratio. As a result, BAO ratios provide a probe of dark energy which is independent of both the cosmic distance ladder and the early evolution of universe. In this note, we use ratios to demonstrate that the known tension between the Lyman alpha forest BAO measurement and other probes arises entirely from recent (0.57<z<2.34) cosmological exp…
We explore the possibility of using a gigaparsec-scale local void to reconcile the Hubble tension. Such a gigaparsec-scale void can be produced by multi-stream inflation where different parts of the observable universe follow different inflationary trajectories. The impact of such a void for cosmological observations is studied, especially those involving supernovae, Baryon Acoustic Oscillations (BAO) and the kinetic Sunyaev-Zel'dovich (kSZ) effect. As a benchmark model, a 1.7Gpc scale with boundary width 0.7Gpc and density contrast -0.14 may ease the Hubble tension.
The value of Hubble constant inferred from Planck measurements of anisotropies in the cosmic microwave background is at $4.4σ$ tension with direct astronomical measurements at low redshifts. Very recently, it has been conjectured that this discrepancy may be reconciled if a small fraction of the dark matter is described by three mutually orthogonal vector fields of the same mass. We study the thermal description of this model and use the observationally-inferred primordial fractions of baryonic mass in $^4{\rm He}$ to constrain its phase space. We show that while the sterile vector fields may …
We investigate the consistency of a scenario in which the baryon asymmetry, dark matters, as well as the cosmic density perturbation are generated simultaneously through the evaporation of primordial black holes (PBHs). This scenario can explain the coincidence of the dark matter and the baryon density of the universe, and is free from the isocurvature perturbation problem. We show that this scenario predicts the masses of PBHs, right-handed neutrinos and dark matters, the Hubble scale during inflation, the non-gaussianity and the running of the spectral index. We also discuss the testability …
Extragalactic dispersion measures (DMs) obtained from observations of fast radio bursts (FRBs) are an excellent tool for probing intergalactic medium (IGM) and for conducting cosmography. However, the DM contribution from the IGM (${\rm DM_{IGM}}$) depends on the fraction of baryon mass in the IGM, $f_{\rm IGM}$, which is not properly constrained. As $f_{\rm IGM}(z)$ is geometrically related to the Hubble parameter $H(z)$ and ${\rm DM_{IGM}}(z)$, here we propose that combining two independent measurements of FRBs and $H(z)$ in similar redshift ranges provides a novel and cosmology-free method …
Redshift evolution of the Hubble constant: Constraints and new insights from an interacting dark energy model
School of Physics and Physical Engineering, Qufu Normal University(曲阜师范大学物理工程学院);School of Astronomy and Space Science, Nanjing University(南京大学天文与空间科学学院)
Despite the success of the standard $Λ$CDM model of cosmology, recent data improvements have made tensions emerge between low- and high-redshift observables, most importantly in determinations of the Hubble constant $H_0$ and the (rescaled) clustering amplitude $S_8$. The high-redshift data, from the cosmic microwave background (CMB), crucially relies on recombination physics for its interpretation. Here we study how small-scale baryon inhomogeneities (i.e., clumping) can affect recombination and consider whether they can relieve both the $H_0$ and $S_8$ tensions. Such small-scale clumping, wh…
A cosmological model in an Einstein-Cartan framework endowed with torsion is studied. For a torsion function assumed to be proportional to Hubble expansion function, namely $ϕ=-αH$, the contribution of torsion function as a dark matter component is studied in two different approaches. In the first one, the total matter energy density is altered by torsion coupling $α$, giving rise to an effective dark matter and cosmological constant terms that reproduce quite well the flat cosmic concordance model. In the second approach, starting with just standard baryonic matter plus a cosmological constan…
We examine the evolution of non-relativistic cold dark matter gravitationally coupled to baryons with modes deep inside the Hubble radius (sub-horizon regime) using akinetic theory approach within the realm of Newtonian theory. We obtain the general solution for the total density perturbation and we also show that a baryon perturbation catches up with the dark matter perturbation at late times, which in turn makes possible the formation of bound structures. We extend the linear perturbation analysis by considering the turn-around event, the collapse of matter, and its virialization process.
The tensions between the values of Hubble constant obtained from the early and the late Universe data pose a significant challenge to modern cosmology. Possible modifications of the flat homogeneous isotropic cosmological ΛCDM model are considered, in which the Universe contains dark energy, cold baryonic matter and dark matter. They are based on general relativity and satisfy two requirements: (1) the value of the Hubble constant, calculated from the value of the Hubble parameter at the recombination by the formulas of flat ΛCDM model, should be equal to 92% of the one based on low-reshift ob…
