Late times dark energy transitions at redshifts $z \ll 0.1$ can raise the predicted value of the Hubble constant to the SH0ES value, $74.03\pm 1.42$ (km s$^{-1}$ Mpc$^{-1})$ or more, while providing an equally good fit as $Λ$CDM at $67.73 \pm 0.41$ to higher redshift data, in particular from the cosmic microwave background and baryon acoustic oscillations. These models however do not fully resolve the true source of tension between the distance ladder and high redshift observations: the local calibration of supernovae luminosities well out into the Hubble flow. When tested in this manner by transferring the SH0ES calibration to the Pantheon supernovae dataset, the ability of such transitions to raise the Hubble constant is reduced to $69.17 \pm 1.09$. Such an analysis should also be used when testing any dynamical dark energy model which can produce similarly fine features in redshift or local void models.
The discrepancy between the value of the Hubble constant $H_0$ measured from the local distance ladder and from the cosmic microwave background is the most serious challenge to the standard $Λ$CDM model. Various models have been proposed to solve or relieve it, but no satisfactory solution has been given until now. Here, we report a late-time transition of $H_{0}$, i.e., $H_0$ changes from a low value to a high one from early to late cosmic time, by investigating the Hubble parameter $H(z)$ data based on the Gaussian process (GP) method. This finding effectively reduces the Hubble crisis by 70…
The Hubble tension seems to be a crisis with $\sim5σ$ discrepancy between the most recent local distance ladder measurement from type Ia supernovae calibrated by Cepheids and the global fitting constraint from the cosmic microwave background data. To narrow down the possible late-time solutions to the Hubble tension, we have used in a recent study [Phys. Rev. D 105, L021301 (2022)] an improved inverse distance ladder method calibrated by the absolute measurements of the Hubble expansion rate at high redshifts from the cosmic chronometer data, and found no appealing evidence for new physics at …
The Hubble tension, if not caused by any systematics, could be relieved or even resolved from modifying either the early-time or late-time Universe. The early-time modifications are usually in tension with either galaxy clustering or galaxy lensing constraints. The late-time modifications are also in conflict with the constraint from the inverse distance ladder, which, however, is weakened by the dependence on a sound-horizon prior and some particular approximation for the late-time expansion history. To achieve a more general no-go argument for the late-time scenarios, we propose to use a glo…
In this manuscript we reassess the potential of interacting dark matter-dark energy models in solving the Hubble constant tension. These models have been proposed but also questioned as possible solutions to the $H_0$ problem. Here we examine several interacting scenarios against cosmological observations, focusing on the important role played by the calibration of Supernovae data. In order to reassess the ability of interacting dark matter-dark energy scenarios in easing the Hubble constant tension, we systematically confront their theoretical predictions using a prior on the Supernovae Ia ab…

We consider a scenario of modified gravity, which is generic to late-time acceleration, namely, acceleration in the Jordan frame and no acceleration in the Einstein frame. The possibility is realized by assuming an interaction between dark matter and the baryonic component in the Einstein frame which is removed by going to the Jordan frame using a disformal transformation giving rise to an exotic effective fluid responsible for causing phantom crossing at late times. In this scenario, past evolution is not distinguished from $Λ$CDM but late time dynamics is generically different due to the pre…
We present a detailed and pedagogical analysis of recent cosmological data, including CMB, BAO, SnIa and the recent local measurement of $H_0$. We thus obtain constraints on the parameters of standard dark energy parameterizations, including $ΛCDM$, and $H(z)$ deformation models such as $wCDM$ (constant equation of state $w$ of dark energy), and the CPL model (corresponding to the evolving dark energy equation-of-state parameter $w(z) = w_0 + w_a \frac{z}{1+z}$). The fitted parameters include the dark matter density $Ω_{0m}$, the SnIa absolute magnitude $M$, the Hubble constant $H_0$ and the d…
We consider a scenario of large-scale modification of gravity that does not invoke extra degrees of freedom but includes coupling between baryonic matter and dark matter in the Einstein frame. The total matter energy density follows the standard conservation, and evolution has the character of deceleration in this frame. The model exhibits interesting features in the Jordan frame realized by virtue of a disformal transformation where individual matter components adhere to standard conservation but gravity is modified. A generic parametrization of disformal transformation leaves thermal history…
We present a model in which the question about a nature of the dark energy and the recently raised Hubble tension can be addressed at once. We consider the electroweak axion in the minimal supersymmetric standard model where the axion energy density is identified with the observed dark energy. Along with this, imposing a gauged $Z_{10}$ symmetry makes it possible to have a gravitino dark matter whose mass amounts to $\sim\mathcal{O}(1)\,\,{\rm GeV}$. We find that the gravitino with mass $\sim\mathcal{O}(1)\,\,{\rm GeV}$ can be a good candidate of a decaying dark matter of which decay after rec…
In this paper, we use a newly compiled sample of ultra-compact structure in radio quasars and strong gravitational lensing systems with quasars acting as background sources to constrain six spatially flat and non-flat cosmological models ($Λ$CDM, PEDE and DGP). These two sets of quasar data (the time-delay measurements of six strong lensing systems and 120 intermediate-luminosity quasars calibrated as standard rulers) could break the degeneracy between cosmological parameters ($H_0$, $Ω_m$ and $Ω_k$) and therefore provide more stringent cosmological constraints for the six cosmological models …
We show that the gravitational waves measurements have raised the opportunity to measure $H_0$ with dark sirens to within 2$σ$, the accuracy required to resolve the \hubble tension. There are two principal reasons for our results: (1) upgrades to GW LIGO-Virgo transient catalogues GWTC-1 and GWTC-2 enhance their sensitive with only 10\% of contamination fraction, and (2) new dark sirens should help to constrain our dynamical EoS. In conjunction, sensitivity upgrades and a new dark energy model will facilitate an accurate inference of the \hubble constant $H_0$ to better with an $\pm 0.077$ err…
We measure the expansion rate of the recent Universe and the calibration scale of the baryon acoustic oscillation (BAO) from low-redshift data. BAO relies on the calibration scale, i.e., the sound horizon at the end of drag epoch $r_d$, which often imposes a prior of the cosmic microwave background (CMB) measurement from the Planck satellite. In order to make really independent measurements of $H_0$, we leave $r_d$ completely free and use the BAO data sets combined with the 31 observational $H(z)$ data, GW170817 and Pantheon sample of Type Ia supernovae. In $Λ$CDM model, we get $H_0=68.63^{+1.…

In this work we generalize the idea of a gravitational phase transition or GPT at late times to allow for a modified gravity scenario in the early universe as well. The original GPT was shown to simultaneously relax the $H_0$ and $σ_8$ tensions and {\it Planck} internal inconsistencies. However, the primary results from GPT predictions implied disagreement with the data from the baryonic acoustic oscillations (BAO). Here we investigate whether the generalized GPT scenario could address the Hubble tension in the presence of the BAO data as well. We find that, despite the vastly enlarged gravita…

Many late time approaches for the solution of the Hubble tension use late time smooth deformations of the Hubble expansion rate $H(z)$ of the Planck18/$Λ$CDM best fit to match the locally measured value of $H_0$ while effectively keeping the comoving distance to the last scattering surface and $Ω_{0m} h^2$ fixed to maintain consistency with Planck CMB measurements. A well known problem of these approaches is that they worsen the fit to low $z$ distance probes. Here we show that another problem of these approaches is that they worsen the level of the $Ω_{0m}-σ_8$ growth tension. We use the gene…

Based on the latest MLCS17 SNe Ia data provided by Hicken et al. (2009), together with the Baryon Acoustic Oscillation (BAO) and strong gravitational lenses (SGL), we investigate the dark energy equation-of-state parameter for both constant $w$ and time-varying $w(z)=w_0+w_az/(1+z)$ in the flat universe, and its correlation with the matter density $Ω_M$ and Hubble constant $h$. The constraints from SNe data alone arrive at: (a) the best-fit results are $(Ω_M, w, h)=(0.358, -1.09, 0.647)$, while both $Ω_M$ and $w$ are very sensitive to the difference $Δh =h-\tilde{h}$ of the Hubble constant dev…
The multi-messenger data of neutron star merger events are promising for constraining the Hubble constant. So far, GW170817 is still the unique gravitational wave event with multi-wavelength electromagnetic counterparts. In particular, its radio and X-ray emission have been measured in the past $\sim 3-5$ years. In this work, we fit the long-lasting X-ray, optical, and radio afterglow light curves of GW170817/GRB 170817A, including the forward shock radiation from both the decelerating relativistic GRB outflow and the sub-relativistic kilonova outflow (though whether the second component contr…
Recent works have studied the late-time light curves of Type Ia supernovae (SNe Ia) when these were older than 500 days past B-band maximum light. Of these, SN 2014J, which exploded in the nearby galaxy M82, was studied with the Advanced Camera for Surveys onboard the Hubble Space Telescope (HST) by Yang et al. Here, I report complementary photometry of SN 2014J taken with the HST Wide Field Camera 3 when it was ~360-1300 days old. My F555W measurements are consistent with the F606W measurements of Yang et al., but the F438W measurements are ~1 mag fainter than their F475W measurements. I corr…
We investigate how the constraint results of inflation models are affected by considering the latest local measurement of $H_0$ in the global fit. We use the observational data, including the Planck CMB full data, the BICEP2 and Keck Array CMB B-mode data, the BAO data, and the latest measurement of Hubble constant, to constrain the $Λ$CDM+$r$+$N_{\rm eff}$ model, and the obtained 1$σ$ and 2$σ$ contours of $(n_s, r)$ are compared to the theoretical predictions of selected inflationary models. We find that, in this fit, the scale invariance is only excluded at the 3.3$σ$ level, and $ΔN_{\rm eff…
We examine the decay vacuum model with a parameter $ε$ that indicates the vacuum energy decay rate. By constraining this model with cosmic microwave background radiation, baryon acoustic oscillation, type Ia supernovae and 30 H(z) cosmic chronometer data points, we find that $ε=-0.0003\pm0.00024$ with the best fitted $χ^{2}$ value slightly smaller than that in the $Λ$CDM model. A negative value of $ε$ suggesting dark matter energy decay into vacuum energy. We also obtain the Hubble constant $H_{0}=68.05\pm0.56$ that can alleviate the current $H_{0}$ tension between the local observation by the…
Recently, the vacuum energy of the QCD ghost in a time-dependent background is proposed as a kind of dark energy candidate to explain the acceleration of the universe. In this model, the energy density of the dark energy is proportional to the Hubble parameter $H$, which is the Hawking temperature on the Hubble horizon of the Friedmann-Robertson-Walker (FRW) universe. In this paper, we perform a constraint on the ghost dark energy model with and without bulk viscosity, by using the Markov Chain Monte Carlo (MCMC) method and the combined latest observational data from the type Ia supernova comp…
The Hubble parameter is one of the central parameters in modern cosmology, which describes the present expansion rate of the universe. Their values inferred from the late-time observations are systematically higher than those from the early-time measurements by about $10\%$. To come to a robust conclusion, independent probes with accuracy at percent levels are crucial. Gravitational waves from compact binary coalescence events can be formulated into the standard siren approach to provide an independent Hubble parameter measurement. The future space-borne gravitational wave observatory network,…
We consider nonlinear redshift-dependent equation of state parameters as dark energy models in a spatially flat Friedmann-Lemaître-Robertson-Walker universe. To depict the expansion history of the universe in such cosmological scenarios, we take into account the large scale behaviour of such parametric models and fit them using a set of latest observational data with distinct origin that includes cosmic microwave background radiation, Supernove Type Ia, baryon acoustic oscillations, redshift space distortion, weak gravitational lensing, Hubble parameter measurements from cosmic chronometers an…
The rate at which the universe is expanding today is a fundamental parameter in cosmology which governs our understanding of structure formation and dark energy. However, current measurements of the Hubble constant, $H_0$, show a significant tension ($\sim 4-6σ$) between early- and late-Universe observations. There are ongoing efforts to check the diverse observational results and also to investigate possible theoretical ways to resolve the tension~-- which could point to radical extensions of the standard model. Here we demonstrate the potential of next-generation spectroscopic galaxy surveys…
We present a determination of the Hubble constant from the joint, free-form analysis of 8 strongly, quadruply lensing systems. In the concordance cosmology, we find $H_0 = 71.8^{+3.9}_{-3.3}\,\mathrm{km}\,\mathrm{s}^{-1}\,\mathrm{Mpc}^{-1}$ with a precision of $4.97\%$. This is in agreement with the latest measurements from Supernovae Type Ia and Planck observations of the cosmic microwave background. Our precision is lower compared to these and other recent time-delay cosmography determinations, because our modelling strategies reflect the systematic uncertainties of lensing degeneracies. We …
We perform a measurement of the Hubble constant, $H_0$, using the latest baryonic acoustic oscillations (BAO) measurements from galaxy surveys of 6dFGS, SDSS DR7 Main Galaxy Sample, BOSS DR12 sample, and eBOSS DR14 quasar sample, in the framework of a flat $Λ$CDM model. Based on the Kullback-Leibler (KL) divergence, we examine the consistency of $H_0$ values derived from various data sets. We find that our measurement is consistent with that derived from Planck and with the local measurement of $H_0$ using the Cepheids and type Ia supernovae. We perform forecasts on $H_0$ from future BAO measu…
We revisit the constraints on inflation models by using the current cosmological observations involving the latest local measurement of the Hubble constant ($H_{0} = 73.00\pm 1.75$ km s $^{-1}$ Mpc$^{-1}$). We constrain the primordial power spectra of both scalar and tensor perturbations with the observational data including the Planck 2015 CMB full data, the BICEP2 and Keck Array CMB B-mode data, the BAO data, and the direct measurement of $H_0$. In order to relieve the tension between the local determination of the Hubble constant and the other astrophysical observations, we consider the add…

We study the stellar angular momentum of thousands of galaxies in the Illustris cosmological simulation, which captures gravitational and gas dynamics within galaxies, as well as feedback from stars and black holes. We find that the angular momentum of the simulated galaxies matches observations well, and in particular two distinct relations are found for late-type versus early-type galaxies. The relation for late-type galaxies corresponds to the value expected from full conservation of the specific angular momentum generated by cosmological tidal torques. The relation for early-type galaxies …
