We provide an alternative proof for the capacity region of the degraded Gaussian multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) broadcast channel. Our proof does not use the channel enhancement technique as opposed to the original proof of Weingertan {\it et. al.} and the alternative proof of Liu {\it et. al}. Our proof starts with the single-letter description of the capacity region of the degraded broadcast channel, and directly evaluates it for the degraded Gaussian MIMO broadcast channel by using two main technical tools. The first one is the generalized de Bruijn identity due to Palomar \emph{et. al.} which provides a connection between the differential entropy and the Fisher information matrix. The second tool we use is an inequality due to Dembo which lower bounds the differential entropy in terms of the Fisher information matrix.
We consider the discrete, time-varying broadcast channel with memory under the assumption that the channel states belong to a set of finite cardinality. We first define the physically degraded finite-state broadcast channel for which we derive the capacity region. We then define the stochastically degraded finite-state broadcast channel and derive the capacity region for this scenario as well. In both scenarios we consider the non-indecomposable finite-state channel as well as the indecomposable one.
We consider the discrete memoryless degraded broadcast channels. We prove that the error probability of decoding tends to one exponentially for rates outside the capacity region and derive an explicit lower bound of this exponent function. We shall demonstrate that the information spectrum approach is quite useful for investigating this problem.

Machine learning has shown promising results for communications system problems. We present results on the use of deep auto-encoders in order to learn a transceiver for the multiuser degraded broadcast channel, and see that the auto encoder is able to learn to communicate on this channel using superposition coding. Additionally, the deep neural net is able to determine a bit labeling and optimize the per user power allocation that depends on the per user SNR.
Classical multiuser information theory studies the fundamental limits of models with a fixed (often small) number of users as the coding blocklength goes to infinity. Motivated by emerging systems with a massive number of users, this paper studies the new {\em many-user paradigm}, where the number of users is allowed to grow with the blocklength. The focus of this paper is the degraded many-broadcast channel model, whose number of users may grow as fast as linearly with the blocklength. A notion of capacity in terms of message length is defined and an example of Gaussian degraded many-broadcas…
Korner and Marton established the capacity region for the 2-receiver broadcast channel with degraded message sets. Recent results and conjectures suggest that a straightforward extension of the Korner-Marton region to more than 2 receivers is optimal. This paper shows that this is not the case. We establish the capacity region for a class of 3-receiver broadcast channels with 2 degraded message sets and show that it can be strictly larger than the straightforward extension of the Korner-Marton region. The key new idea is indirect decoding, whereby a receiver who cannot directly decode a cloud …
The relay broadcast channel (RBC) is considered, in which a transmitter communicates with two receivers with the assistance of a relay. Based on different degradation orders among the relay and the receivers' outputs, three types of physically degraded RBCs (PDRBCs) are introduced. Inner bounds and outer bounds are derived on the capacity region of the presented three types. The bounds are tight for two types of PDRBCs: 1) one receiver's output is a degraded form of the other receiver's output, and the relay's output is a degraded form of the weaker receiver's output; 2) one receiver's output …
Different polar coding schemes are proposed for the memoryless degraded broadcast channel under different reliability and secrecy requirements: layered decoding and/or layered secrecy. In this setting, the transmitter wishes to send multiple messages to a set of legitimate receivers keeping them masked from a set of eavesdroppers. The layered decoding structure requires receivers with better channel quality to reliably decode more messages, while the layered secrecy structure requires eavesdroppers with worse channel quality to be kept ignorant of more messages. The implementation of the propo…
We study the two-user Gaussian multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) broadcast channel with common and confidential messages. In this channel, the transmitter sends a common message to both users, and a confidential message to each user which is kept perfectly secret from the other user. We obtain the entire capacity region of this channel. We also explore the connections between the capacity region we obtained for the Gaussian MIMO broadcast channel with common and confidential messages and the capacity region of its non-confidential counterpart, i.e., the Gaussian MIMO broadcast channel with…
In this work, we study the arbitrarily varying broadcast channel (AVBC), when state information is available at the transmitter in a causal manner. We establish inner and outer bounds on both the random code capacity region and the deterministic code capacity region with degraded message sets. The capacity region is then determined for a class of channels satisfying a condition on the mutual informations between the strategy variables and the channel outputs. As an example, we consider the arbitrarily varying binary symmetric broadcast channel with correlated noises. We show cases where the co…
We consider the broadcast phase of a three-node network, where a relay node establishes a bidirectional communication between two nodes using a spectrally efficient two-phase decode-and-forward protocol. In the first phase the two nodes transmit their messages to the relay node. Then the relay node decodes the messages and broadcasts a re-encoded composition of them in the second phase. We consider Gaussian MIMO channels and determine the capacity region for the second phase which we call the Gaussian MIMO bidirectional broadcast channel.
In this paper, first, we investigate the model of degraded broadcast channel with side information and confidential messages. This work is from Steinberg's work on the degraded broadcast channel with causal and noncausal side information, and Csisz$\acute{a}$r-Körner's work on broadcast channel with confidential messages. Inner and outer bounds on the capacity-equivocation regions are provided for the noncausal and causal cases. Superposition coding and double-binning technique are used in the corresponding achievability proofs. Then, we investigate the degraded broadcast channel with side inf…
Consider the broadcast relay channel (BRC) which consists of a source sending information over a two user broadcast channel in presence of two relay nodes that help the transmission to the destinations. Clearly, this network with five nodes involves all the problems encountered in relay and broadcast channels. New inner bounds on the capacity region of this class of channels are derived. These results can be seen as a generalization and hence unification of previous work in this topic. Our bounds are based on the idea of recombination of message bits and various effective coding strategies for…
Error and erasure exponents for the broadcast channel with degraded message sets are analyzed. The focus of our error probability analysis is on the main receiver where, nominally, both messages are to be decoded. A two-step decoding algorithm is proposed and analyzed. This receiver first attempts to decode both messages, failing which, it attempts to decode only the message representing the coarser information, i.e., the cloud center. This algorithm reflects the intuition that we should decode both messages only if we have confidence in the estimates; otherwise one should only decode the coar…
In this paper, we consider a scenario where a source node wishes to broadcast two confidential messages for two respective receivers via a Gaussian MIMO broadcast channel. A wire-tapper also receives the transmitted signal via another MIMO channel. It is assumed that the channels are degraded and the wire-tapper has the worst channel. We establish the capacity region of this scenario. Our achievability scheme is a combination of the superposition of Gaussian codes and randomization within the layers which we will refer to as Secret Superposition Coding. For the outerbound, we use the notion of…
As demonstrated in many recent studies, cooperation between users can greatly improve the performance of communication systems. Most of the works in the literature present models where all the users are aware of the resources available for cooperation. However, the scenario where cooperation links are sometimes unavailable or that some users cannot be updated whether the cooperation links are present or not, is more realistic in today's dynamic ad-hoc communication systems. In such a case we need coding schemes that exploit the cooperation links if they are present, and can still operate if co…
In this paper, a new proof for the degrees of freedom (DoF) region of the K-user multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) broadcast channel (BC) with no channel state information at the transmitter (CSIT) and perfect channel state information at the receivers (CSIR) is provided. Based on this proof, the capacity region of a certain class of MIMO BC with channel distribution information at the transmitter (CDIT) and perfect CSIR is derived. Finally, an outer bound for the DoF region of the MIMO interference channel (IC) with no CSIT is provided.
We consider the Gaussian multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) broadcast channel with common and private messages. We obtain the degrees of freedom (DoF) region of this channel. We first show that a parallel Gaussian broadcast channel with unmatched sub-channels can be constructed from any given Gaussian MIMO broadcast channel by using the generalized singular value decomposition (GSVD) and a relaxation on the power constraint for the channel input, in a way that the capacity region of the constructed parallel channel provides an outer bound for the capacity region of the original channel. The…
A new non-orthogonal multiple access scheme performing simultaneous transmission to multiple users characterized by different signal-to-noise ratios is proposed. Different users are multiplexed by storing their codewords into a multiplexing matrix according to properly designed patterns and then mapping the columns of the matrix onto the symbols of a higher-order constellation. At the receiver, an interference cancellation algorithm is employed in order to achieve a higher spectral efficiency than orthogonal user multiplexing. Rate-Adaptive Constellation Expansion Multiple Access (RA-CEMA) is …
Optimizing energy efficiency (EE) for the MIMO broadcasting channels (BC) is considered in this paper, where a practical power model is taken into account. Although the EE of the MIMO BC is non-concave, we reformulate it as a quasiconcave function based on the uplink-downlink duality. After that, an energy efficient iterative waterfilling scheme is proposed based on the block-coordinate ascent algorithm to obtain the optimal transmission policy efficiently, and the solution is proved to be convergent. Through simulations, we validate the efficiency of the proposed scheme and discuss the system…
We investigate the secure degrees of freedom (SDoF) of the wiretap and the K user Gaussian broadcast channels with multiple antennas at the transmitter, the legitimate receivers and an unknown number of eavesdroppers each with a number of antennas less than or equal to a known value NE. The channel matrices between the legitimate transmitter and the receivers are available everywhere, while the legitimate pair have no information about the eavesdroppers' channels. We provide the exact sum SDoF for the considered system. A new comprehensive upperbound is deduced and a new achievable scheme base…
We consider a broadcast channel with 3 receivers and 2 messages (M0, M1) where two of the three receivers need to decode messages (M0, M1) while the remaining one just needs to decode the message M0. We study the best known inner and outer bounds under this setting, in an attempt to find the deficiencies with the current techniques of establishing the bounds. We produce a simple example where we are able to explicitly evaluate the inner bound and show that it differs from the general outer bound. For a class of channels where the general inner and outer bounds differ, we use a new argument to …
The K-user multiple-input and multiple-output (MIMO) broadcast channel (BC) with no channel state information at the transmitter (CSIT) is considered, where each receiver is assumed to be equipped with reconfigurable antennas capable of choosing a subset of receiving modes from several preset modes. Under general antenna configurations, the sum linear degrees of freedom (LDoF) of the K-user MIMO BC with reconfigurable antennas is completely characterized, which corresponds to the maximum sum DoF achievable by linear coding strategies. The LDoF region is further characterized for a class of ant…
A state-dependent degraded broadcast diamond channel is studied where the source-to-relays cut is modeled with two noiseless, finite-capacity digital links with a degraded broadcasting structure, while the relays-to-destination cut is a general multiple access channel controlled by a random state. It is assumed that the source has non-causal channel state information and the relays have no state information. Under this model, first, the capacity is characterized for the case where the destination has state information, i.e., has access to the state sequence. It is demonstrated that in this cas…
We consider scheduled message communication over a discrete memoryless degraded broadcast channel. The framework we consider here models both the random message arrivals and the subsequent reliable communication by suitably combining techniques from queueing theory and information theory. The channel from the transmitter to each of the receivers is quasi-static, flat, and with independent fades across the receivers. Requests for message transmissions are assumed to arrive according to an i.i.d. arrival process. Then, (i) we derive an outer bound to the region of message arrival vectors achieva…
A discrete memoryless half-duplex relay channel is constructed from a broadcast channel from the source to the relay and destination and a multiple access channel from the source and relay to the destination. When the relay listens, the channel operates in the broadcast mode. The channel switches to the multiple access mode when the relay transmits. If the broadcast component channel is physically degraded, the half-duplex relay channel will also be referred to as physically degraded. The capacity of this degraded half-duplex relay channel is examined. It is shown that the block Markov coding …
It has been shown recently that the dirty-paper coding is the optimal strategy for maximizing the sum rate of multiple-input multiple-output Gaussian broadcast channels (MIMO BC). Moreover, by the channel duality, the nonconvex MIMO BC sum rate problem can be transformed to the convex dual MIMO multiple-access channel (MIMO MAC) problem with a sum power constraint. In this paper, we design an efficient algorithm based on conjugate gradient projection (CGP) to solve the MIMO BC maximum sum rate problem. Our proposed CGP algorithm solves the dual sum power MAC problem by utilizing the powerful c…
Consider a memoryless degraded broadcast channel (DBC) in which the channel output is a single-letter function of the channel input and the channel noise. As examples, for the Gaussian broadcast channel (BC) this single-letter function is regular Euclidian addition and for the binary-symmetric BC this single-letter function is Galois-Field-two addition. This paper identifies several classes of discrete memoryless DBCs for which a relatively simple encoding scheme, which we call natural encoding, achieves capacity. Natural Encoding (NE) combines symbols from independent codebooks (one for each …
In this paper, we study the degrees of freedom (DoF) of the asymmetric multi-input-multi-output interference broadcast channel (MIMO-IBC). By introducing a notion of connection pattern chain, we generalize the genie chain proposed in [11] to derive and prove the necessary condition of IA feasibility for asymmetric MIMO-IBC, which is denoted as irreducible condition. It is necessary for both linear interference alignment (IA) and asymptotic IA feasibility in MIMO-IBC with arbitrary configurations. In a special class of asymmetric two-cell MIMOIBC, the irreducible condition is proved to be the s…
This letter investigates the energy efficiency (EE) scaling law for the broadcasting channels (BC) with many users, in which the non-ideal transmit independent power consumption is taken into account. We first consider the single antenna case with $K$ users, and derive that the EE scales as $\frac{\log_2 \ln K}α$ when $α> 0$ and $\log_2 K$ when $α= 0$, where $α$ is the normalized transmit independent power. After that, we extend it to the general MIMO BC case with a $M$-antenna transmitter and $K$ users each with $N$ antennas. The scaling law becomes $\frac{M \log_2 \ln NK}α$ when $α> 0$ and $…
In this paper, we consider a scenario where a source node wishes to broadcast two confidential messages for two respective receivers, while a wire-tapper also receives the transmitted signal. This model is motivated by wireless communications, where individual secure messages are broadcast over open media and can be received by any illegitimate receiver. The secrecy level is measured by equivocation rate at the eavesdropper. We first study the general (non-degraded) broadcast channel with confidential messages. We present an inner bound on the secrecy capacity region for this model. The inner …
Interference alignment (IA) has recently emerged as a promising interference mitigation technique for interference networks. In this letter, we focus on the IA non-iterative transceiver design problem in a multiple-input-multiple-output interfering broadcast channel (MIMO-IBC), and observed that there is previously unexploited flexibility in different permutations of user ordering. By choosing a good user ordering for a pre-determined IA inter-channel-interference allocation, an improved transceiver design can be accomplished. In order to achieve a more practical performance-complexity tradeof…
The degrees of freedom (DoF) of the multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) Interference Broadcast Channel (IBC) with 2 cells and 2 users per cell are investigated when only delayed channel state information is available at the transmitter side (delayed CSIT). Retrospective Interference Alignment has shown the benefits in terms of DoF of exploiting delayed CSIT for interference, broadcast and also for the IBC. However, previous works studying the IBC with delayed CSIT do not exploit the fact that the users of each cell are served by a common transmitter. This work presents a four-phase precoding…
In this paper, bounds to the rate-equivocation region for the general 3-receiver broadcast channel (BC) with degraded message sets, are presented for confidential messages to be kept secret from one of the receivers. This model is more general than the 2-receiver BCs with confidential messages with an external wiretapper, and the recently studied 3-receiver degraded BCs with confidential messages, since in the model studied in this paper, the conditions on the receivers are general and the wiretapper receives the common message. Wyner's code partitioning combined with double-binning is used to…
This paper theoretically characterizes the degrees-of-freedom (DoF) region of order-$(K-1)$ messages for the $K$-user multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) broadcast channel with delayed channel state information at the transmitter (CSIT) and arbitrary antenna configurations, where the transmitter has $M$ antennas and the receiver $i=1,2,\cdots,K$ has $N_i$ antennas. For the converse, we first derive the DoF region of order-$(K-1)$ messages for the $K$-user MIMO broadcast channel with no CSIT and arbitrary antenna configurations with the aid of the proposed Genie-bound, and then establish the …
This work addresses the design of optimal linear transmit filters for the Multiple Input-Multiple Output (MIMO) Broadcast Channel (BC) when several spatial streams are allocated to each user.We also consider that the Channel State Information (CSI) is perfect at the receivers but is only partial at the transmitter. A statistical model for the partial CSI is assumed and exploited for the filter design. Similarly to the single-stream per user case, the problem is solved via Mean Square Error (MSE) dualities and interference functions. However, including more streams per user involves an addition…
We consider the problem of linear transceiver design to achieve max-min fairness in a downlink MIMO multicell network. This problem can be formulated as maximizing the minimum rate among all the users in an interfering broadcast channel (IBC). In this paper we show that when the number of antennas is at least two at each of the transmitters and the receivers, the min rate maximization problem is NP-hard in the number of users. Moreover, we develop a low-complexity algorithm for this problem by iteratively solving a sequence of convex subproblems, and establish its global convergence to a stati…
A partially cooperative relay broadcast channel (RBC) is a three-node network with one source node and two destination nodes (destinations 1 and 2) where destination 1 can act as a relay to assist destination 2. Inner and outer bounds on the capacity region of the discrete memoryless partially cooperative RBC are obtained. When the relay function is disabled, the inner and outer bounds reduce to new bounds on the capacity region of broadcast channels. Four classes of RBCs are studied in detail. For the partially cooperative RBC with degraded message sets, inner and outer bounds are obtained. F…
The degrees of freedom (DoF) region is characterized for the $2$-user multiple input multiple output (MIMO) broadcast channel (BC), where the transmitter is equipped with $M$ antennas, the two receivers are equipped with $N_1$ and $N_2$ antennas, and the levels of channel state information at the transmitter (CSIT) for the two users are parameterized by $β_1, β_2$, respectively. The achievability of the DoF region was established by Hao, Rassouli and Clerckx, but no proof of optimality was heretofore available. The proof of optimality is provided in this work with the aid of sum-set inequaliti…
Precoding with block diagonalization is an attractive scheme for approaching sum capacity in multiuser multiple input multiple output (MIMO) broadcast channels. This method requires either global channel state information at every receiver or an additional training phase, which demands additional system planning. In this paper we propose a lattice based multi-user precoder that uses block diagonalization combined with pre-equalization and perturbation for the multiuser MIMO broadcast channel. An achievable sum rate of the proposed scheme is derived and used to show that the proposed technique …
We study the two-user Gaussian multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) broadcast channel with common and confidential messages. In this channel, the transmitter sends a common message to both users, and a confidential message to each user which needs to be kept perfectly secret from the other user. We obtain the entire capacity region of this channel. We also explore the connections between the capacity region we obtain for the Gaussian MIMO broadcast channel with common and confidential messages and the capacity region of its non-confidential counterpart, i.e., the Gaussian MIMO broadcast chann…
We study the sum degrees of freedom (DoF) of a class of multi-layer relay-aided MIMO broadcast networks with delayed channel state information at transmitters (CSIT). In the assumed network a K-antenna source intends to communicate to K single-antenna destinations, with the help of N-2 layers of K full-duplex single-antenna relays. We consider two practical delayed CSIT feedback scenarios. If the source can obtain the CSI feedback signals from all layers, we prove the optimal sum DoF of the network to be K/(1+1/2+...+1/K). If the CSI feedback is only within each hop, we show that when K=2 the …
The degrees of freedom (DoF) region of the fast-fading MIMO (multiple-input multiple-output) Gaussian broadcast channel (BC) is studied when there is delayed channel state information at the transmitter (CSIT). In this setting, the channel matrices are assumed to vary independently across time and the transmitter is assumed to know the channel matrices with some arbitrary finite delay. An outer-bound to the DoF region of the general $K$-user MIMO BC (with an arbitrary number of antennas at each terminal) is derived. This outer-bound is then shown to be tight for two classes of MIMO BCs, namely…
We consider the transmission of classical information through a degraded broadcast channel, whose outputs are two quantum systems, with the state of one being a degraded version of the other. Yard et al. proved that the capacity region of such a channel is contained in a region characterized by certain entropic quantities. We prove that this region satisfies the strong converse property, that is, the maximal probability of error incurred in transmitting information at rates lying outside this region converges to one exponentially in the number of uses of the channel. In establishing this resul…
The problem of channel coding over the Gaussian multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) broadcast channel (BC) with additive independent Gaussian states is considered. The states are known in a noncausal manner to the encoder, and it wishes to minimize the amount of information that the receivers can learn from the channel outputs about the state sequence. The state leakage rate is measured as a normalized blockwise mutual information between the state sequence and the channel outputs' sequences. We employ a new version of a state-dependent extremal inequality and show that Gaussian input maximi…
In this paper, we analyze the feasibility of linear interference alignment (IA) for multi-input-multi-output (MIMO) interference broadcast channel (MIMO-IBC) with constant coefficients. We pose and prove the necessary conditions of linear IA feasibility for general MIMO-IBC. Except for the proper condition, we find another necessary condition to ensure a kind of irreducible interference to be eliminated. We then prove the necessary and sufficient conditions for a special class of MIMO-IBC, where the numbers of antennas are divisible by the number of data streams per user. Since finding an inve…
The most relevant linear precoding method for frequency-flat MIMO broadcast channels is block diagonalization (BD) which, under certain conditions, attains the same nonlinear dirty paper coding channel capacity. However, BD is not easily translated to frequency-selective channels, since space-time information is required for transceiver design. In this paper, we demonstrate that BD is feasible in frequency-selective MIMO broadcast channels to eliminate inter-user interference (IUI) if the transmit block length is sufficiently large, and if the number of transmit antennas is greater than the nu…
We investigate asymptotic capacity limits of the Gaussian MIMO broadcast channel (BC) with spatially correlated fading to understand when and how much transmit correlation helps the capacity. By imposing a structure on channel covariances (equivalently, transmit correlations at the transmitter side) of users, also referred to as \emph{transmit correlation diversity}, the impact of transmit correlation on the power gain of MIMO BCs is characterized in several regimes of system parameters, with a particular interest in the large-scale array (or massive MIMO) regime. Taking the cost for downlink …
A fading broadcast channel is considered where the transmitter employs two antennas and each of the two receivers employs a single receive antenna. It is demonstrated that even if the realization of the fading is precisely known to the receivers, the high signal-to-noise (SNR) throughput is greatly reduced if, rather than knowing the fading realization \emph{precisely}, the trasmitter only knows the fading realization \emph{approximately}. The results are general and are not limited to memoryless Gaussian fading.
For the two-user multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) broadcast channel with delayed channel state information at the transmitter (CSIT) and arbitrary antenna configurations, all the degrees-of-freedom (DoF) regions are obtained. However, for the three-user MIMO broadcast channel with delayed CSIT and arbitrary antenna configurations, the DoF region of order-2 messages is still unclear and only a partial achievable DoF region of order-1 messages is obtained, where the order-2 messages and order-1 messages are desired by two receivers and one receiver, respectively. In this paper, for the thre…
The two-user multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) Gaussian broadcast channel (BC) with common, private and confidential messages is considered. The transmitter sends a common message to both users, a confidential message to User 1 and a private (non-confidential) message to User 2. The secrecy-capacity region is characterized by showing that certain inner and outer bounds coincide and that the boundary points are achieved by Gaussian inputs, which enables the development of a tight converse. The proof relies on factorization of upper concave envelopes and a variant of dirty-paper coding (DPC)…
Recently, researchers showed that dirty paper coding (DPC) is the optimal transmission strategy for multiple-input multiple-output broadcast channels (MIMO-BC). In this paper, we study how to determine the maximum weighted sum of DPC rates through solving the maximum weighted sum rate problem of the dual MIMO multiple access channel (MIMO-MAC) with a sum power constraint. We first simplify the maximum weighted sum rate problem such that enumerating all possible decoding orders in the dual MIMO-MAC is unnecessary. We then design an efficient algorithm based on conjugate gradient projection (CGP…
This paper characterizes the capacity region of Gaussian MIMO broadcast channels (BCs) with per-antenna power constraint (PAPC). While the capacity region of MIMO BCs with a sum power constraint (SPC) was extensively studied, that under PAPC has received less attention. A reason is that efficient solutions for this problem are hard to find. The goal of this paper is to devise an efficient algorithm for determining the capacity region of Gaussian MIMO BCs subject to PAPC, which is scalable to the problem size. To this end, we first transform the weighted sum capacity maximization problem, which…
This paper presents a generalized closed-form beamforming technique that can achieve the maximum degrees of freedom in compounded multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) broadcast channels with mixed classes of multiple-antenna users. The contribution is firstly described within the context of a three-cell network and later extended to the general multi-cell scenario where we also show how to determine the conditions required to align the interference in a subspace that is orthogonal to the one reserved for the desired signals. This is then followed by an analysis of the impact of antenna correl…
This paper focuses on two-cell multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) Gaussian interfering broadcast channels (MIMO-IFBC) with $K$ cooperating users on the cell-boundary of each BS. It corresponds to a downlink scenario for cellular networks with two base stations (BSs), and $K$ users equipped with Wi-Fi interfaces enabling to cooperate among users on a peer-to-peer basis. In this scenario, we propose a novel interference alignment (IA) technique exploiting user cooperation. Our proposed algorithm obtains the achievable degrees of freedom (DoF) of 2K when each BS and user have $M=K+1$ transmit …
A multiple antenna broadcast channel with perfect channel state information at the receivers is considered. If each receiver quantizes its channel knowledge to a finite number of bits which are fed back to the transmitter, the large capacity benefits of the downlink channel can be realized. However, the required number of feedback bits per mobile must be scaled with both the number of transmit antennas and the system SNR, and thus can be quite large in even moderately sized systems. It is shown that a small number of antennas can be used at each receiver to improve the quality of the channel e…
