SARAH is a Mathematica package for studying supersymmetric models. It calculates for a given model the masses, tadpole equations and all vertices at tree-level. Those information can be used by \SARAH to write model files for CalcHep/CompHep or FeynArts/FormCalc. In addition, the second version of SARAH can derive the renormalization group equations for the gauge couplings, parameters of the superpotential and soft-breaking parameters at one and two-loop level. Furthermore, it calculates the one-loop self energies and the one-loop corrections to the tadpoles. SARAH can handle all N=1 SUSY models whose gauge sector is a direct product of SU(N) and U(1) gauge groups. The particle content of the model can be an arbitrary number of chiral superfields transforming as any irreducible representation with respect to the gauge groups. To implement a new model, the user has just to define the gauge sector, the particle, the superpotential and the field rotations to mass eigenstates.
The renormalization of the Minimal Supersymmetric Standard Model is discussed. In particular we focus on the soft-supersymmetry breaking sector of the MSSM and comment on non-renormalization theorems.
We review the renormalization of the electroweak sector of the standard model. The derivation also applies to the minimal supersymmetric standard model. We discuss regularization and the relation between the threshold corrections and the renormalization group equations. We consider the corrections to many precision observables, including MW and sin^2 theta^eff. We show that global fits to the data exclude regions of supersymmetric model parameter space and lead to lower bounds on superpartner masses.
We explore the effects of a strongly-coupled, approximately scale-invariant sector on the renormalization of soft supersymmetry breaking terms. A useful formalism for deriving exact results for renormalization of soft supersymmetry breaking terms is given in an appendix, and used to generalize previously known results to include the effects of nontrilinear superpotential terms. We show that a class of theories which explain the flavor hierarchy without flavor symmetries can also solve the supersymmetric flavor problem by producing nearly degenerate masses for the first two generations of scala…
Two applications of the method of differential renormalization to supersymmetric gauge theories are reviewed. The photon propagator in supersymmetric QED is renormalized at one loop and the first supergravity contributions to the anomalous magnetic moment of a charged lepton are obtained.
A comparison of spectra obtained using the 1-loop MSSM and 2-loop R-parity violating MSSM renormalization group equations is presented. Influence of higher loop corrections and R-parity violating terms is discussed. Some numerical constraints on the R-parity violating parameters are also given.
The renormalization of the Minimal Supersymmetric Standard Model (MSSM) is presented. We describe symmetry identities that constitute a framework in which the MSSM is completely characterized and renormalizability can be proven. Furthermore, we discuss applications of this framework for the determination of symmetry-restoring counterterms, the gauge dependence of tan(beta) and the derivation of non-renormalization theorems.
The renormalization factors of the dimension-six effective operators for proton decay are evaluated at two-loop level in the supersymmetric grand unified theories. For this purpose, we use the previous results in which the quantum corrections to the effective Kahler potential are evaluated at two-loop level. Numerical values for the factors are presented in the case of the minimal supersymmetric SU(5) grand unified model. We also derive a simple formula for the one-loop renormalization factors for any higher-dimensional operators in the Kahler potential, assuming that they are induced by the…
There are reasons to believe that the Standard Model is only an effective theory, with new Physics lying beyond it. Supersymmetric extensions are one possibility: they address some of the Standard Model's shortcomings, such as the instability of the Higgs boson mass under radiative corrections. In this thesis, some topics related to the renormalization of supersymmetric models are analyzed. One of them is the automatic computation of the Lagrangian and the renormalization group equations of these models, which is a hard and error-prone process if carried out by hand. The generic renormalizatio…
An Aoki-Denner form of the renormalization scheme is suggested for the physical amplitudes in MSSM. The Higgs sector is reparameterized with the mass of the CP odd scalar, and the mass of the heavy CP even one instead of $tanβ$ in our scheme. The counterterms of $tanβ$ is fixed perturbatively on mass shell just within Higgs sector. The counterterms of gauge-scalar mixings are defined with Ward-Takahashi identit ies from scalar-scalar mixings. The effect of the reparameterization is also probed on the radiative correction of the mass of the lightest Higgs.
We stress the potential usefulness of renormalization group invariants. Especially particular combinations thereof could for instance be used as probes into patterns of supersymmetry breaking in the MSSM at inaccessibly high energies. We search for these renormalization group invariants in two systematic ways: on the one hand by making use of symmetry arguments and on the other by means of a completely automated exhaustive search through a large class of candidate invariants. At the one-loop level, we find all known invariants for the MSSM and in fact several more, and extend our results to th…
We compute the two-loop renormalization group equations for all soft supersymmetry-breaking couplings in a general softly broken N=1 supersymmetric model. We also specialize these results to the Minimal Supersymmetric Standard Model.
The renormalization of supersymmetric Yang-Mills theories with soft supersymmetry breaking is presented using spurion fields for introducing the breaking terms. It is proven that renormalization of the fields and parameters in the classical action yields precisely the correct counterterms to cancel all divergences. In the course of the construction of higher orders additional independent parameters appear, but they can be shown to be irrelevant in physics respects. Thus, the only parameters with influence on physical amplitudes are the supersymmetric and the well-known soft breaking parameters…
Inspired by the tachyon-free non-supersymmetric heterotic SO(16)xSO(16) string we consider a special class of non-supersymmetric field theories: Those that can be obtained from supersymmetric field theories by supersymmetry breaking twists. We argue that such theories, like their supersymmetric counter parts, may still possess some fermionic symmetries as left-overs of the super gauge transformations and have special one-loop non-renormalization properties due to holomorphicity. In addition, we extend the supergraph techniques to these theories to calculate some explicit supersymmetry-breaking…
We consider numerical fits to non-supersymmetric $\mathrm{SO}(10)$-based models in which neutrino mass is generated by the type-I or type-II seesaw mechanism or a combination of both. The fits are performed with a sophisticated top-down procedure, taking into account the renormalization group equations of the gauge and Yukawa couplings, integrating out relevant degrees of freedom at their corresponding mass scales, and using recent data for the Standard Model observables. We find acceptable fits for normal neutrino mass ordering only and with neutrino mass generated by either type-I seesaw onl…
The renormalization of the Minimal Supersymmetric Standard Model of electroweak interactions is presented to all orders of perturbation theory using the algebraic method. Special attention is directed to the issues of soft supersymmetry breaking, gauge fixing, and infrared finiteness. We discuss the implications of $\hbar$-dependent field parametrizations on the counterterm structure and provide a complete set of on-shell normalization conditions.
We present a minimal version for the renormalization of softly broken Super-Yang-Mills theories using the extended model with a local gauge coupling. It is shown that the non-renormalization theorems of the case with unbroken supersymmetry are valid without modifications and that the renormalization of soft-breaking parameters is completely governed by the renormalization of the supersymmetric parameters. The symmetry identities in the present context are peculiar, since the extended model contains two anomalies: the Adler-Bardeen anomaly of the axial current and an anomaly of supersymmetry in…
We consider a class of $\text{SO}(10)$ models with flavor symmetries in the Yukawa sector and investigate their viability by performing numerical fits to the fermion masses and mixing parameters. The fitting procedure involves a top-down approach in which we solve the renormalization group equations from the scale of grand unification down to the electroweak scale. This allows the intermediate scale right-handed neutrinos and scalar triplet, involved in the type I and II seesaw mechanisms, to be integrated out at their corresponding mass scales, leading to a correct renormalization group runni…
I compute the complete two-loop effective potential for the minimal supersymmetric standard model in the Landau gauge. This enables an accurate determination of the minimization conditions for the vacuum expectation values of the Higgs fields. Checks on the result follow from supersymmetric limits and from renormalization-scale invariance. The renormalization group equations for the field-independent vacuum energy and the vacuum expectation values are also presented. I provide numerical examples showing the improved accuracy and scale dependence obtained with the full two-loop effective potent…
We reexamine the renormalization group equations (RGEs) for the dimensionless and dimensionful parameters of the Minimal Supersymmetric Standard Model (MSSM), incorporating 1-loop thresholds. The inclusion of these thresholds necessarily results in splitting between dimensionless couplings which are equal at the tree level. Assuming that the SUSY-breaking mechanism does not introduce new intergenerational couplings, we present the most general form for high-scale, soft-SUSY-breaking (SSB) parameters. With this as our boundary condition, we consider illustrative examples of numerical solutions …
We briefly review the calculations of quantum corrections related with the exact NSVZ $β$-function in ${\cal N}=1$ supersymmetric theories, paying especial attention to the scheme dependence of the results. It is explained, how the NSVZ relation is obtained for the renormalization group functions defined in terms of the bare coupling constant if a theory is regularized by higher derivatives. Also we describe, how to construct a special renormalization prescription which gives the NSVZ relation for the renormalization group functions defined in terms of the renormalized coupling constant exactl…
We study the renormalization group evolution and infra-red stable fixed points of the Yukawa couplings and the soft supersymmetry breaking trilinear couplings of the minimal supersymmetric standard model with baryon and lepton number (and R-parity) violation involving the heaviest generations. We show analytically that in the Yukawa sector there is only one infra-red stable fixed point. This corresponds to non-trivial fixed point for the top-, bottom-quark Yukawa couplings and the $B$ violating coupling $λ_{233}''$, and a trivial one for the $τ$-Yukawa coupling. All other possible fixed points…
We discuss questions related to renormalization group and to nonperturbative aspects of non-Abelian gauge theories with N=2 and/or N=1 supersymmetry. Results on perturbative and nonperturbative $β$ functions of these theories are reviewed, and new mechanisms of confinement and dynamical symmetry breaking recently found in a class of $SU(n_c)$, $USp(2n_c)$ and $SO(n_c)$ theories are discussed.
We investigate the renormalization group evolution of fermion masses, mixings and quartic scalar Higgs self-couplings in an ${\it extended}$ non-supersymmetric SO(10) model, where the Higgs sector contains the ${\bf 10}_{\rm H}$, ${\bf 120}_{\rm H}$, and ${\bf 126}_{\rm H}$ representations. The group SO(10) is spontaneously broken at the GUT scale to the Pati-Salam group and subsequently to the Standard Model (SM) at an intermediate scale $M_{\rm I}$. We explicitly take into account the effects of the change of gauge groups in the evolution. In particular, we derive the renormalization group e…
By using relations derived from renormalization group equations (RGEs), we find that strong indirect constraints can be placed on the top squark mixing phase in At from the electric dipole moment of the neutron (dn). Since mtop is large, any GUT-scale phase in At feeds into other weak scale phases through RGEs, which in turn contribute to dn. Thus CP-violating effects due to a weak-scale At are strongly constrained. We find that |Im At(mz)| must be smaller than or of order |Im B(mz)|, making the electric dipole moment of the top quark unobservably small in most models. Quantitative estimates o…
The non-renormalization theorem of chiral vertices and the generalized non-renormalization theorem of the photon self energy are derived in SQED on the basis of algebraic renormalization. For this purpose the gauge coupling is extended to an external superfield. This extension already provides detailed insight into the divergence structure. Moreover, using the local supercoupling together with an additional external vector multiplet that couples to the axial current, the model becomes complete in the sense of multiplicative renormalization, with two important implications. First, a Slavnov--Ta…
We revisit General Gauge Mediation (GGM) in light of the supersymmetric (linear) sigma model by utilizing the current superfield. The current superfield in the GGM is identified with supersymmetric extension of the vector symmetry current of the sigma model while spontaneous breakdown of supersymmetry in the GGM corresponds to soft breakdown of the axial vector symmetry of the sigma model. We first derive the current superfield from the supersymmetric linear sigma model and then compute 2-point functions of the current superfield using the (anti-)commutation relations of the messenger componen…
Supersymmetric pure Yang-Mills theory is formulated with a local, i.e. space-time dependent, complex coupling in superspace. Super-Yang-Mills theories with local coupling have an anomaly, which has been first investigated in the Wess-Zumino gauge and there identified as an anomaly of supersymmetry. In a manifest supersymmetric formulation the anomaly appears in two other identities: The first one describes the non-renormalization of the topological term, the second relates the renormalization of the gauge coupling to the renormalization of the complex supercoupling. Only one of the two identit…
By applying the recently developed Loop Regularization(LR) with string-mode regulators to supersymmetric field theories, we explicitly verify the supersymmetric Ward identities in several supersymmetric models at one-loop level. It is interesting to observe that supersymmetry is a so remarkable symmetry that the supersymmetric Ward identities hold as long as a regularization scheme is realized in the exact four dimensional space-time with translational invariance for the momentum integration, and the gauge symmetry can be maintained once the regularization scheme preserves supersymmetry and sa…
We consider supersymmetric gauge theories coupled to hyper multiplets on five and six dimensional orbifolds and determine the bulk and local fixed point renormalizations of the gauge couplings. We infer from a component analysis that the hyper multiplet does not induce renormalization of the brane gauge couplings on the five dimensional orbifold S^1/Z_2. This is not due to supersymmetry, since the bosonic and fermionic contributions cancel separately. We extend this investigation to T^2/Z_N orbifolds using supergraph techniques in six dimensions. On general Z_N orbifolds the gauge couplings do…
It is usually believed that there are no perturbative anomalies in supersymmetric gauge theories beyond the well-known chiral anomaly. In this paper we revisit this issue, because previously given arguments are incomplete. Specifically, we rule out the existence of soft anomalies, i.e., quantum violations of supersymmetric Ward identities proportional to a mass parameter in a classically supersymmetric theory. We do this by combining a previously proven theorem on the absence of hard anomalies with a spurion analysis, using the methods of Algebraic Renormalization. We work in the on-shell comp…
For supersymmetric gauge theories a consistent regularization scheme that preserves supersymmetry and gauge invariance is not known. In this article we tackle this problem for supersymmetric QED within the framework of algebraic renormalization. For practical calculations, a non-invariant regularization scheme may be used together with counterterms from all power-counting renormalizable interactions. From the Slavnov--Taylor identity, expressing gauge invariance, supersymmetry and translational invariance, simple symmetry conditions are derived that are important in a twofold respect: they est…
The importance of Yukawa contributions to the renormalization of the spectrum in non-minimal supersymmetric models is illustrated in the cases of explicit lepton number violation (leading to the possibility of singly produced sneutrinos at LEP energies), an intermediate scale singlet neutrino and negative mass squared parameters (possibly modifying fine-tuning considerations), and a grand-unified sector. The relevance of model-dependent renormalization to the supersymmetric flavor problem is emphasized. Sources of the flavor problem, some of which are newly identified, as well as possible solu…
For $\mathcal{N}=1$ supersymmetric Yang-Mills theory without matter it is demonstrated that there is a class of renormalization schemes, in which the exact Novikov, Shifman, Vainshtein, and Zakharov (NSVZ) formula for the renormalization group $β$-function, defined in terms of the renormalized coupling constant, is valid. These schemes are related with each other by finite renormalizations forming a one-parameter commutative subgroup of general renormalization group transformations. The analogy between the exact $β$-function in $\mathcal{N}=1$ supersymmetric Yang-Mills theory without matter an…
We calculate the 1-loop effective potential in a supersymmetric model in 5D with $S^1/(Z_2\times Z_2)$ orbifold compactification. The procedure of calculation consists of evaluating first the integrals over four-momenta using the dimensional regularization and then the sum over Kaluza-Klein modes using the zeta-regularization. We show that both fermionic and bosonic contributions are separately finite and argue that, supersymmetry is not necessary for the finiteness of the theory at 1-loop. Also, some general arguments on the finiteness of the theory with arbitrary number of extra dimensions a…
GRACE/SUSY is a program package for generating the tree-level amplitude and evaluating the corresponding cross section of processes of the minimal supersymmetric extension of the standard model (MSSM). The Higgs potential adopted in the system, however, is assumed to have a more general form indicated by the two-Higgs-doublet model. This system is an extension of GRACE for the standard model(SM) of the electroweak and strong interactions. For a given MSSM process the Feynman graphs and amplitudes at tree-level are automatically created. The Monte-Carlo phase space integration by means of BASES…
We complete the two-loop calculation of beta-functions for vacuum expectation values (VEVs) in gauge theories by the missing O(g^4)-terms. The full two-loop results are presented for generic and supersymmetric theories up to two-loop level in arbitrary R_xi-gauge. The results are obtained by means of a scalar background field, identical to our previous analysis. As a by-product, the two-loop scalar anomalous dimension for generic supersymmetric theories is presented. As an application we compute the beta-functions for VEVs and tan(beta) in the MSSM, NMSSM, and E6SSM.
Leading Yukawa terms in the three-loop anomalous dimension and four-loop $β$-function of ${\cal N}=1$ supersymmetric theories for various renormalization prescriptions
The recently proposed dark left-right gauge model, with Z' and W_R bosons at the TeV scale, is shown to have a simple supersymmetric extension which is unifiable. Its one-loop gauge-coupling renormalization-group equations are shown to have identical solutions to those of the minimal supersymmetric standard model. It also has a rich dark sector, with at least three stable particles.
We deduce the gluino contribution to the three-loop QCD quark mass anomalous dimension function within the minimal supersymmetric Standard Model (MSSM) from its standard QCD expression. This work is a continuation of the program of computation of MSSM renormalization group functions.
The two-loop anomalous dimension of the chiral matter superfields is calculated for a general ${\cal N}=1$ supersymmetric gauge theory regularized by higher covariant derivatives. We obtain both the anomalous dimension defined in terms of the bare couplings, and the one defined in terms of the renormalized couplings for an arbitrary renormalization prescription. For the one-loop finite theories we find a simple relation between the higher derivative regulators under which the anomalous dimension defined in terms of the bare couplings vanishes in the considered approximation. In this case the o…
First we give a review of the spurion formalism and the exact renormalization group equations for soft supersymmetry breaking parameters in general gauge theories. Next we discuss the minimal supersymmetric standard model coupled to superconformal theories leading to hierarchical Yukawa couplings by large anomalous dimensions of quarks and leptons. The soft scalar masses are found to satisfy the noble sum rule in IR regime. It is possible construct the models such that the degenerate squark/slepton masses are realized thanks to this IR sum rule. However, it is found also that this degeneracy i…
Solutions of the superspace Schwinger-Dyson equations, describing mass generation and chiral symmetry breaking in supersymmetric gauge theory, need not be constrained to vanish by no-renormalization theorems, nor by special choices of gauge parameter. Thus symmetry breaking vacuum structures remain possible (as in non-supersymmetric gauge theory), inviting comparison with predictions of an alternative approach based on holomorphy and the Wilsonian effective action.
In this paper we evaluate the renormalization constants and anomalous dimensions for the squark wave function and mass within supersymmetric QCD. These results complement the ones obtained in Ref. \cite{Harlander:2009mn} and thus provide further confirmation on the applicability of dimensional reduction to supersymmetric QCD at three-loop order. The three-loop anomalous dimension constitute important input to precision predictions of the supersymmetric mass spectrum as obtained from the evolution from the GUT to the TeV energy scale.
