By applying the recently developed Loop Regularization(LR) with string-mode regulators to supersymmetric field theories, we explicitly verify the supersymmetric Ward identities in several supersymmetric models at one-loop level. It is interesting to observe that supersymmetry is a so remarkable symmetry that the supersymmetric Ward identities hold as long as a regularization scheme is realized in the exact four dimensional space-time with translational invariance for the momentum integration, and the gauge symmetry can be maintained once the regularization scheme preserves supersymmetry and satisfies the consistency condition for logarithmic divergences. As a manifest demonstration, we carry out a complete one-loop renormalization for the massive Wess-Zumino model by adopting the LR method, it is found that all the quadratic divergences cancel out and the relations among masses and coupling constants hold after renormalization, which agrees with the well-known non-renormalization theorem. It is concluded that the LR method preserves not only gauge symmetry but also supersymmetry. A simple and definite derivation of Majorana Feynman rules is found to be very useful.
Most calculations of quantum corrections in supersymmetric theories are made with the dimensional reduction, which is a modification of the dimensional regularization. However, it is well known that the dimensional reduction is not self-consistent. A consistent regularization, which does not break the supersymmetry, is the higher covariant derivative regularization. However, the integrals obtained with this regularization can not be usually calculated analytically. We discuss application of this regularization to the calculations in supersymmetric theories. In particular, it is demonstrated th…
We show that regularization of gauge theories by higher covariant derivatives and gauge invariant Pauli-Villars regulators is a consistent method if the Pauli-Villars vector fields are considered in a covariant in the regulating Pauli-Villars fields is pathological and the original Slavnov proposal in covariant Landau gauge is not correct because of the appearance of massless modes in the regulators which do not decouple when the ultraviolet regulator is removed. In such a case the method does not correspond to the regularization of a pure gauge theory but that of a gauge theory in interaction…
By undertaking additional analyses postponed in a previous paper, we complete our construction of a manifestly supersymmetric gauge-covariant regularization of supersymmetric chiral gauge theories. We present the following: An evaluation of the covariant gauge anomaly; a proof of the integrability of the covariant gauge current in anomaly-free cases; a calculation of a one-loop superconformal anomaly in the gauge supermultiplet sector. On the last point, we find that the ghost-anti-ghost supermultiplet and the Nakanishi-Lautrup supermultiplet give rise to BRST exact contributions which, due to…
We formulate a manifestly supersymmetric gauge covariant regularization of supersymmetric chiral gauge theories. In our scheme, the effective action in the superfield background field method above one-loop is always supersymmetric and gauge invariant. The gauge anomaly has a covariant form and can emerge only in one-loop diagrams with all the external lines being the background gauge superfield. We also present several illustrative applications in the one-loop approximation: the self-energy part of the chiral multiplet and of the gauge multiplet; the super-chiral anomaly and the superconformal…
General issues concerning the regularization of supersymmetric theories using dimensional regularization and dimensional reduction are reviewed. Recent progress on problems of dimensional reduction related to factorization, supersymmetry, Higgs boson mass calculations, and mathematical consistency is discussed.
We briefly review the calculations of quantum corrections related with the exact NSVZ $β$-function in ${\cal N}=1$ supersymmetric theories, paying especial attention to the scheme dependence of the results. It is explained, how the NSVZ relation is obtained for the renormalization group functions defined in terms of the bare coupling constant if a theory is regularized by higher derivatives. Also we describe, how to construct a special renormalization prescription which gives the NSVZ relation for the renormalization group functions defined in terms of the renormalized coupling constant exactl…
Three-dimensional cutoff regulators are frequently employed in multi-nucleon calculations, but they violate chiral symmetry and Lorentz invariance. A cutoff regularization scheme is proposed to compensate systematically at subleading orders for these symmetry violations caused by regulator artifacts. This is especially helpful when a soft momentum cutoff has to be used for technical reasons. It is also shown that dimensional regularization can still be used for some Feynman (sub)diagrams while cutoff regulators are used for the rest.
In high-energy processes which are sensitive to small transverse momenta, individual contributions from collinear and soft momentum regions are not separately well-defined in dimensional regularization. A simple possibility to solve this problem is to introduce additional analytic regulators. We point out that in massless theories the unregularized singularities only appear in real-emission diagrams and that the additional regulators can be introduced in such a way that gauge invariance and the factorized eikonal structure of soft and collinear emissions is maintained. This simplifies factoriz…
There has been a controversial recent claim that the standard result on the Higgs to two photon decay rate is incorrect, with the use of dimensional regularization fingered as the alleged culprit. Given the great importance of the $H\to γγ$ process as a possible Standard Model Higgs discovery channel at the LHC if the Higgs mass is light, it is critical to find a way to check the correctness of the results of dimensional regularization for this process. Here we report the results of a perturbative calculation of the $H\to γγ$ decay amplitude using a spacetime lattice as a UV regulator, which i…
Recent progress concerning regularization of supersymmetric theories is reviewed. Dimensional reduction is reformulated in a mathematically consistent way, and an elegant and general method is presented that allows to study the supersymmetry-invariance of dimensional reduction in an easy manner. This method is applied to several supersymmetry identities at the one- and two-loop level, and thus the extent to which dimensional reduction is known to preserve supersymmetry is significantly enlarged.
We introduce an infrared regulator in Yang--Mills theories under the form of a mass term for the nonabelian fields. We show that the resulting action, built in a covariant linear gauge, is multiplicatively renormalizable by proving the validity at all orders of the Slavnov identity defining the theory.
For supersymmetric gauge theories a consistent regularization scheme that preserves supersymmetry and gauge invariance is not known. In this article we tackle this problem for supersymmetric QED within the framework of algebraic renormalization. For practical calculations, a non-invariant regularization scheme may be used together with counterterms from all power-counting renormalizable interactions. From the Slavnov--Taylor identity, expressing gauge invariance, supersymmetry and translational invariance, simple symmetry conditions are derived that are important in a twofold respect: they est…
We compute the three-loop contribution to the N=4 supersymmetric Yang-Mills planar four-gluon amplitude using the recently-proposed Higgs IR regulator of Alday, Henn, Plefka, and Schuster. In particular, we test the proposed exponential ansatz for the four-gluon amplitude that is the analog of the BDS ansatz in dimensional regularization. By evaluating our results at a number of kinematic points, and also in several kinematic limits, we establish the validity of this ansatz at the three-loop level. We also examine the Regge limit of the planar four-gluon amplitude using several different IR re…
The state-of-the-art in current two-loop QCD amplitude calculations is at five-particle scattering. Computing two-loop six-particle processes requires knowledge of the corresponding one-loop amplitudes to higher orders in the dimensional regulator. In this paper we compute analytically the one-loop hexagon integral via differential equations. In particular we identify its function alphabet for general $D$-dimensional external states. We also provide integral representations for all one-loop integrals up to weight four. With this, the one-loop integral basis is ready for two-loop amplitude appl…
We calculate the 1-loop effective potential in a supersymmetric model in 5D with $S^1/(Z_2\times Z_2)$ orbifold compactification. The procedure of calculation consists of evaluating first the integrals over four-momenta using the dimensional regularization and then the sum over Kaluza-Klein modes using the zeta-regularization. We show that both fermionic and bosonic contributions are separately finite and argue that, supersymmetry is not necessary for the finiteness of the theory at 1-loop. Also, some general arguments on the finiteness of the theory with arbitrary number of extra dimensions a…
We calculate symmetry-restoring counterterms in supersymmetric QCD at the one-loop level. First we determine loop corrections to the supersymmetry and gauge transformations and find counterterms in such a way that the symmetry algebra holds at the one-loop level. Then these results are used to derive the symmetry-restoring counterterms to all trilinear interactions. In order to obtain unique results it is crucial to use the Slavnov-Taylor identity, which does not only contain supersymmetric and gauge Ward identities but also describes the symmetry algebra. In dimensional regularization this pr…
We extend the universal one-loop effective action (UOLEA) by operators which translate between dimensional reduction (DRED) and dimensional regularization (DREG). These regularization scheme translating operators allow for an application of the UOLEA to supersymmetric high-scale models matched to non-supersymmetric effective theories. The operators are presented in a generic, model independent form, suitable for implementation into generic spectrum generators.
We present a definition of the four-dimensional helicity (FDH) regularization scheme valid for two or more loops. This scheme was previously defined and utilized at one loop. It amounts to a variation on the standard 't Hooft-Veltman scheme and is designed to be compatible with the use of helicity states for "observed" particles. It is similar to dimensional reduction in that it maintains an equal number of bosonic and fermionic states, as required for preserving supersymmetry. Supersymmetry Ward identities relate different helicity amplitudes in supersymmetric theories. As a check that the FD…
We consider Lorentz-violating operators induced at the loop level in softly-broken supersymmetric noncommutative QED. Dangerous operators forbidden in the supersymmetric limit are generated via finite corrections, with the scale of supersymmetry breaking serving as a gauge-invariant regulator. We compare the most dangerous loop effects to those obtained in noncommutative theories truncated by a momentum-space cutoff, and find significantly improved bounds.
We discuss the dependence of running couplings on the choice of regularization method in a general softly-broken N=1 supersymmetric theory. Regularization by dimensional reduction respects supersymmetry, but standard dimensional regularization does not. We find expressions for the differences between running couplings in the modified minimal subtraction schemes of these two regularization methods, to one loop order. We also find the two-loop renormalization group equations for gaugino masses in both schemes, and discuss the application of these results to the Minimal Supersymmetric Standard Mo…
The shape function describes (non-perturbative) Fermi motion effects in semi-inclusive heavy flavour decay. Its renormalization properties are substantially dependent on the kind of ultraviolet regulator used. For example, the double logarithm that appears at one loop is larger by a factor 2 in dimensional regularization than in lattice regularization. We show that factorization of long-distance effects inside the shape function is achieved with any regulator considered.
Finding an efficient and compelling regularization of soft and collinear degrees of freedom at the same invariant mass scale, but separated in rapidity is a persistent problem in high-energy factorization. In the course of a calculation, one encounters divergences unregulated by dimensional regularization, often called rapidity divergences. Once regulated, a general framework exists for their renormalization, the rapidity renormalization group (RRG), leading to fully resummed calculations of transverse momentum (to the jet axis) sensitive quantities. We examine how this regularization can be i…
Some recent research of quantum corrections in ${\cal N}=1$ supersymmetric theories is briefly reviewed. The most attention is paid to the theories regularized by higher covariant derivatives. In particular, we discuss, how the NSVZ and NSVZ-like relations appear with this regularization and how one can construct the NSVZ scheme in all orders.
Using a careful choice of infrared (IR) subtraction scheme, we demonstrate the cancellation of all terms with transcendental weights 0,1,2 from the finite part of the full-color two-loop four-gluon $\mathcal{N}=2$ supersymmetric QCD amplitude, with $N_f$ massless supersymmetric quarks. This generalizes the previously observed cancellation of weight-2 terms in the superconformal theory, where $N_f=2N_c$ for gauge group SU$(N_c)$. The subtraction scheme follows naturally both from general IR factorization principles and from an integrand-level analysis of divergences in this amplitude. The diver…
We present the two-loop helicity amplitudes for the scattering of two gluons into two gluons in QCD, which are relevant for next-to-next-to-leading order corrections to jet production at hadron colliders. We give the results in the `t Hooft-Veltman and four-dimensional helicity variants of dimensional regularization. Summing our expressions over helicities and colors, and converting to conventional dimensional regularization, gives results in complete agreement with those of Glover, Oleari and Tejeda-Yeomans. We also present the amplitudes for 2 to 2 scattering in pure N=1 supersymmetric Yang-…
We comment on the presence of power-like divergences in Kaluza-Klein theories with supersymmetry breaking a là Scherk-Schwarz. By introducing a SUSY preserving regulator, we show that, in the context of a recently model proposed by Barbieri, Hall and Nomura, the Higgs mass is finite and unambiguously defined. The same result applies to similar models.
We present a generalization of the Frolov-Slavnov invariant regularization scheme for chiral fermion theories in curved spacetimes. local gauge symmetries of the theory, including local Lorentz invariance. The perturbative scheme works for arbitrary representations which satisfy the chiral gauge anomaly and the mixed Lorentz-gauge anomaly cancellation conditions. Anomalous theories on the other hand manifest themselves by having divergent fermion loops which remain unregularized by the scheme. Since the invariant scheme is promoted to also include local Lorentz invariance, spectator fields whi…
The computation of one-loop corrections to the $γ^\star Q_+ q$ and $gR_+g$ effective vertices in the framework of gauge-invariant effective theory for Multi-Regge processes in QCD is reviewed. Due to consistent implementation of the "tilted Wilson line" regularization for rapidity divergences, the gauge-invariance has been preserved at all stages of calculation independently on the rapidity regulator and cancellation of the power-like dependence on the regularization variable is traced. Only single-logarithmic rapidity divergence is left in the final result.
The covariant regularization of the contributions of fundamental particles to the vacuum energy density is implemented in the Pauli-Villars, dimensional regularization, and Feynman regulator frameworks. Rules of correspondence between dimensional regularization and cutoff calculations are discussed. Invoking the scale invariance of free field theories in the massless limit, as well as consistency with the rules of correspondence, it is argued that quartic divergencies are absent in the case of free fields, while it is shown that they arise when interactions are present.
We study the self energies of all particles which appear in a lattice regularization of supersymmetric QCD (${\cal N}=1$). We compute, perturbatively to one-loop, the relevant two-point Green's functions using both the dimensional and the lattice regularizations. Our lattice formulation employs the Wilson fermion acrion for the gluino and quark fields. The gauge group that we consider is $SU(N_c)$ while the number of colors, $N_c$ and the number of flavors, $N_f$, are kept as generic parameters. We have also searched for relations among the propagators which are computed from our one-loop resu…
Using Feynman-'t Hooft gauge and dimensional regularization, the static parity-violating coupling of the neutrinos and charged leptons to an external electromagnetic field is calculated in the minimal supersymmetry standard model (MSSM). From the obtained result of calculations, we have seen that the main contribution come from chargino particles in MSSM.
Loop regularization (LORE) is a novel regularization scheme in modern quantum field theories. It makes no change to the spacetime structure and respects both gauge symmetries and supersymmetry. As a result, LORE should be useful in calculating loop corrections in supersymmetry phenomenology. To demonstrate further its power, in this article we revisit in the light of LORE the old issue of the absence of quadratic contributions (quadratic divergences) in softly broken supersymmetric field theories. It is shown explicitly by Feynman diagrammatic calculations that up to two loops the Wess-Zumino …
In the present paper, we investigate regularization of the one-loop quantum corrections with infinite Kaluza-Klein (KK) states and evaluate Casimir vacuum energy from extra dimensions. The extra dimensional models always involve the infinite massless or massive Kaluza-Klein states, and therefore, the regularization of the infinite KK corrections is highly problematic. In order to avoid the ambiguity, we adopt the proper time integrals and the Riemann zeta function regularization in evaluating the summations of infinite KK states. In the calculation, we utilize the KK regularization method with…
We review the renormalization of the electroweak sector of the standard model. The derivation also applies to the minimal supersymmetric standard model. We discuss regularization and the relation between the threshold corrections and the renormalization group equations. We consider the corrections to many precision observables, including MW and sin^2 theta^eff. We show that global fits to the data exclude regions of supersymmetric model parameter space and lead to lower bounds on superpartner masses.
We present the two-loop QCD helicity amplitudes for quark-gluon scattering, and for quark-antiquark annihilation into two gluons. These amplitudes are relevant for next-to-next-to-leading order corrections to (polarized) jet production at hadron colliders. We give the results in the `t Hooft-Veltman and four-dimensional helicity (FDH) variants of dimensional regularization. The transition rules for converting the amplitudes between the different variants are much more intricate than for the previously discussed case of gluon-gluon scattering. Summing our two-loop expressions over helicities an…
Motivated by recent work on inverse magnetic catalysis at finite temperature, we study the quark-meson model using both dimensional regularization and a sharp cutoff. We calculate the critical temperature for the chiral transition as a function of the Yukawa coupling in the mean-field approximation varying the renormalization scale and the value of the ultraviolet cutoff. We show that the results depend sensitively on how one treats the fermionic vacuum fluctuations in the model and in particular on the regulator used. Finally, we explore a $B$-dependent transition temperature for the Polyakov…
The evaluation of Yukawa-enhanced two-loop contributions to the MSSM Higgs-boson mass is considered. We prove the common assumption that regularization by dimensional reduction preserves supersymmetry at the required level. Thus generating counterterms by multiplicative renormalization is correct. Technically, we identify a suitable Slavnov-Taylor identity, use a recently developed method to evaluate it at the two-loop level, and show that it is valid in dimensional reduction.
Supersymmetric Slavnov-Taylor and Ward identities are investigated in presence of soft and spontaneous symmetry breaking. We consider an abelian model where soft supersymmetry breaking yields a mass splitting between electron and selectron and triggers spontaneous symmetry breaking, and we derive corresponding identities that relate the electron and selectron masses with the Yukawa coupling. We demonstrate that the identities are valid in dimensional reduction and invalid in dimensional regularization and compute the necessary symmetry-restoring counterterms.
We compute the one-loop QCD amplitude for the process gg-->Q\bar{Q} in dimensional regularization through order ε^2 in the dimensional regulator and for arbitrary quark mass values. This result is an ingredient of the NNLO cross-section for heavy quark production at hadron colliders. The calculation is performed in conventional dimensional regularization, using well known reduction techniques as well as a method based on recent ideas for the functional form of one-loop integrands in four dimensions.
We present the two-loop QCD amplitude for the interaction of two gluons and a CP-even Higgs boson in the Minimal Supersymmetric Standard Model. We apply a novel numerical method for the evaluation of Feynman diagrams with infrared, ultraviolet and threshold singularities. We discuss subtleties in the ultraviolet renormalization of the amplitude with conventional dimensional regularization, dimensional reduction, and the four dimensional helicity scheme. Finally, we show numerical results for scenarios of supersymmetry breaking with a rather challenging phenomenology in which the Higgs signal i…
We examine the phenomenological consequences of quadratically divergent contributions to the scalar potential in supergravity effective Lagrangians. We focus specifically on the effect of these corrections on the vacuum configuration of scalar fields in softly-broken supersymmetric theories and the role these corrections play in generating non-diagonal soft scalar masses. Both effects can only be properly studied when the divergences are regulated in a manifestly supersymmetric manner -- something which has thus far been neglected in past treatments. We show how a supersymmetric regularization…

Some form of nonperturbative regularization is necessary if effective field theory treatments of the NN interaction are to yield finite answers. We discuss various regularization schemes used in the literature. Two of these methods involve formally iterating the divergent interaction and then regularizing and renormalizing the resultant amplitude. Either a (sharp or smooth) cutoff can be introduced, or dimensional regularization can be applied. We show that these two methods yield different results after renormalization. Furthermore, if a cutoff is used, the NN phase shift data cannot be repro…
In this review article we report on the newest developments in precision calculations in supersymmetric theories. An important issue related to this topic is the construction of a regularization scheme preserving simultaneously gauge invariance and supersymmetry. In this context, we discuss in detail dimensional reduction in component field formalism as it is currently the preferred framework employed in the literature. Furthermore, we set special emphasis on the application of multi-loop calculations to the analysis of gauge coupling unification, the prediction of thelightest Higgs boson mass…
In this proceeding I briefly review current status of the construction of nuclear electro-weak currents within chiral effective field theory. I show that gauge and chiral symmetry requirements lead to the well-known continuity equations for the current and charge operators which, however, get modified at higher orders. Regularization of the current will be also discussed. I demonstrate that implementation of a cutoff regulator in a naive way leads to violation of chiral symmetry. To respect the underlying symmetries I propose to use higher derivative regularization in the nuclear forces and cu…
