In the framework of the instanton vacuum model we evaluate the Chiral Perturbation Theory (ChPT) low-energy constants h_3,l_7. We found that in the instanton vacuum model the constant l_7 is very sensitive to the shape of the instanton and the instanton vacuum parameters. We evaluated the constant l_7 for two different zero-mode profiles and as a function of the average instanton size ρand inter-instanton distance R. Our result agrees with an old "order of magnitude" estimate of this constant from [1]. The obtained value of l_7 implies that the pure QCD contribution to the pion mass difference is small, ~1% of the observed experimental value.
I discuss the whole mechanism to calculate isospin violation effects in the framework of CHPT. In order to get the correct size of isospin violation one has to include all non-isospin symmetric sources like the electromagnetic interaction, the quark mass difference ($π_0 - η$ mixing), explicit photon loops. As examples I discuss the electromagnetic contributions to the pion nucleon sigma term and to the S-wave pion nucleon scattering length.
The general formula of the pi(-)p atom strong energy-level shift in the 1s state is derived in the next-to-leading order in the isospin breaking, and in all orders in chiral expansion. Isospin-breaking corrections to the level shift are explicitly evaluated at order p^2 in ChPT. The results clearly demonstrate the necessity to critically reaccess the values of the piN scattering lengths, extracted from the energy-level shift measurement by means of the potential model-based theoretical analysis.
First-principles lattice determinations of the Standard Model expectation for the leading order hadronic vacuum polarization contribution to the anomalous magnetic moment of the muon have become sufficiently precise that further improvement requires including strong and electromagnetic isospin-breaking effects. We provide a continuum estimate of the strong isospin-breaking contribution, $a_μ^{SIB}$, using $SU(3)$ chiral perturbation theory. The result is shown to be dominated by resonance-region contributions encoded in a single low-energy constant whose value is known from flavor-breaking had…
The chiral effective Lagrangian for pseudoscalar nonet is constructed in consideration of isospin breaking. And the difference of quark condensates is taken accounted. The SU(3) singlet eta0 is not taken as Goldstone-boson. The mixing with and without isospin symmetry is considered. The quark mass ratios are obtained through solving the mass equations of mesons. We estimate the change of quark mass ratios according to the change of the masses of pion+ and kaon+ to see how the electromagnetic corrections affect our results. It turn out that massless up quark is possible. The upper limit for mu/…
We present positivity bounds, derived from the principles of analyticity, unitarity and crossing symmetry, that constrain the low-energy constants of chiral perturbation theory. Bounds are produced for 2, 3 or more flavours with equal meson masses, up to and including next-to-next-to-leading order (NNLO), using the second and higher derivatives of the amplitude. We enhance the bounds by using the most general isospin combinations posible (or higher-flavour counterparts thereof) and by analytically integrating the low-energy range of the amplitude. In addition, we present a powerful and general…
We apply the perturbative chiral quark model to the study of the low-energy pi-N interaction. Using an effective chiral Lagrangian we reproduce the Weinberg-Tomozawa result for the S-wave pi-N scattering lengths. After inclusion of the photon field we give predictions for the electromagnetic O(p^2) low-energy couplings of the chiral perturbation theory effective Lagrangian that define the electromagnetic mass shifts of nucleons and first-order (e^2) radiative corrections to the pi-N scattering amplitude. Finally, we estimate the leading isospin-breaking correction to the strong energy shift of…
Recent progress in the description of the properties of hadronic atoms on the basis of non-relativistic effective Lagrangian approach and Chiral Perturbation Theory (ChPT) is reported. For the case of the pi(+)pi(-) atom decay, the problem is completely solved, both conceptually and numerically. For the pi(-)p atom, a general expression for the ground-state energy is obtained in the first non-leading order in isospin breaking, and the numerical analysis is carried out at O(p^2) in ChPT. We briefly consider a possible solution of the "potential model puzzle" in the hadronic atom problem, provid…
By including the strong isospin symmetry breaking effects and the electromagnetic contributions between the pseudoscalar mesons, we calculate the phase shifts of the $P$-wave $ππ$ and $Kπ$ scattering up to $\mathcal{O}(p^4)$ in the framework of the SU(3) chiral perturbation theory (ChPT) and coupled channel inverse amplitude method. We re-fit the low energy constants with the present meson-meson scattering data and derive the mass differences for the charged and neutral iso-multiplets of $ρ$ and $K^{*}$. Our results show that the mass difference between $ρ^\pm$ and $ρ^0$ is very small while th…
We study isospin breaking instanton corrections to the operator product expansion of the nucleon correlation functions. After a comparison with quark model calculations based on the 't Hooft interaction, we examine the role of instantons in the corresponding QCD sum rules. Instanton contributions are found to be absent in the chirally even sum rule, but significant in the chirally-odd one. They improve the consistency of both sum rules and favor a value of the isovector quark condensate close to the chiral estimate.
We present the first direct $N_f=2$ lattice QCD computation of two- and three-$π^+$ scattering quantities that includes an ensemble at the physical point. We study the quark mass dependence of the two-pion phase shift, and the three-particle interaction parameters. We also compare to phenomenology and chiral perturbation theory (ChPT). In the two-particle sector, we observe good agreement to the phenomenological fits in $s$- and $d$-wave, and obtain $M_πa_0 = -0.0481(86)$ at the physical point from a direct computation. In the three-particle sector, we observe reasonable agreement at threshold…
We review the isospin-breaking and electromagnetic corrections to the $τ^- \to π^- π^0 ν_τ$ decays, which are used as an input to the two-pion contributions to the hadronic vacuum polarization (at LO) of the anomalous magnetic moment ($a_μ$). We extend previous analyses by Cirigliano et al. working with ChPT with resonances. As an outcome, we improve the agreement between this determination and the other based on $e^+e^-$ data. The new results are in better agreement with an old estimation that uses Vector Dominance Model (VMD), and the discrepancy between the SM prediction and the combined re…
A general class of inverse-moment sum rules was previously derived by the authors in a chiral perturbation theory (ChPT) study at two-loop order of the isospin and hypercharge vector-current propagators. Here, we address the evaluation of the inverse-moment sum rules in terms of existing data and theoretical constraints. Two kinds of sum rules are seen to occur, those which contain as-yet undetermined ${\cal O}(q^6)$ counterterms and those free of such quantities. We use the former to obtain phenomenological evaluations of two ${\cal O}(q^6)$ counterterms. Light is shed on the important but di…
I consider some selected topics in chiral perturbation theory (CHPT). For the meson sector, emphasis is put on processes involving pions in the isospin zero S-wave which require multi-loop calculations. The advantages and shortcomings of heavy baryon CHPT are discussed. Some recent results on the structure of the baryons are also presented.
We analyze the isospin-breaking corrections to quark condensates within one-loop SU(2) and SU(3) Chiral Perturbation Theory including $m_u\neq m_d$ as well as electromagnetic (EM) contributions. The explicit expressions are given and several phenomenological aspects are studied. We analyze the sensitivity of recent condensate determinations to the EM low-energy constants (LEC). If the explicit chiral symmetry breaking induced by EM terms generates a ferromagnetic-like response of the vacuum, as in the case of quark masses, the increasing of the order parameter implies constraints for the EM LE…
We use chiral perturbation theory (ChPT) to calculate the $π^- d$ scattering length with an accuracy of a few percent, including isospin-violating corrections both in the two- and three-body sector. In particular, we provide the technical details of a recent letter, where we used data on pionic deuterium and pionic hydrogen atoms to extract the isoscalar and isovector pion-nucleon scattering lengths $a^+$ and $a^-$. We study isospin-breaking contributions to the three-body part of $a_{π^-d}$ due to mass differences, isospin violation in the $πN$ scattering lengths, and virtual photons. This la…
The process $K_{\ell3}$ is calculated to two-loop order ($p^6$) in Chiral Perturbation Theory (ChPT) in the isospin conserved case. We present expressions suitable for use with previous work in two-loop CHPT where the order $p^4$ parameters ($L_i^r$) were determined from experiment. We point out that all the order $p^6$ parameters ($C_i^r$) that appear in the value of $f_+(0)$ relevant for the determination of $|V_{us}|$ can be determined from $K_{\ell3}$ measurements via the slope and the curvature of the scalar form-factor. As a by product we update the value of the CKM matrix element $| V_{…
In this paper we discuss new flavored space-like defects in confined QCD which can be considered as the Euclidean extended instantons carrying the topologically quantized currents. We focus on the simplest 1d space-like defect - the S-Skyrmion solution extended in one space coordinate and localized in Euclidean time. It can be identified both in the holographic QCD and in the Chiral Perturbation Theory(ChPT). The Skyrmion charges get transformed into the corresponding currents for S-Skyrmion. The analogy with the Thouless pump and the quantum phase slip phenomena is mentioned.
The mixed-isospin vector current correlator, $\langle 0\vert T(V^ρ_μV^ω_ν)\vert 0\rangle$ is evaluated using both QCD sum rules and Chiral Perturbation Theory (ChPT) to one-loop order. The sum rule treatment is a modification of previous analyses necessitated by the observation that those analyses produce forms of the correlator that fail to be dominated, near $q^2=0$, by the most nearby singularities. Inclusion of contributions associated with the $ϕ$ meson rectify this problem. The resulting sum rule fit provides evidence for a significant direct $ω\rightarrowππ$ coupling contribution in $e^…
The color anti-triplet triquark $q\bar{q}\bar{q}$ is considered as a compact component in the tetraquark structure $cq\bar{q}\bar{q}$ of exotic $D_{s}$ mesons. We discuss the mass spectrum and the flavor mixing of the triquarks by using the instanton induced interaction and the one-gluon exchange potentials. As a characteristic property of the triquark, we investigate the isospin violation. It is shown that the flavor $\bar{\bf 3}$ (isosinglet) and $\bf 6$ (isotriplet) states may be strongly mixed and then are identified with $D_{s}(2632)$.
A review of the modern theory of hadronic atoms based on the non-relativistic effective Lagrangian approach and ChPT, is given. As an application of the general framework, we consider the decay of the pi+pi- atom into two neutral pions, and the energy-level shift of the pi-p atom. The analysis of the decay width of the pi+pi- atom has been carried out at the first non-leading order in isospin breaking, and at O(e^2p^2) in ChPT, that results in an accurate theoretical prediction for this quantity. The study of the pi-p atom energy-level shift within the same approach clearly demonstrates the ne…
We apply the perturbative chiral quark model to give predictions for the electromagnetic O(p^2) low-energy couplings of the ChPT effective Lagrangian that define the electromagnetic mass shifts of nucleons and first-order (e^2) radiative corrections to the piN scattering amplitude. We estimate the leading isospin-breaking correction to the strong energy shift of the pi(-)p atom in the 1s state, which is relevant for the experiment "Pionic Hydrogen" at PSI.
For a precise determination of the m_u and m_d quark masses, it is useful to combine isospin symmetric results of lattice or sum rules QCD techniques with some isospin breaking study performed in chiral perturbation theory (ChPT). The most promising process for the later is $η\to 3π$ decay. However, this process is affected by large chiral corrections and there are observed discrepancies between the values of Dalitz plot parameters stemming from the standard ChPT computation of its amplitude and those experimentally measured. We describe here the method based on analytic dispersive representat…
We employ Chiral Perturbation Theory (ChPT) to evaluate the complete set of pseudoscalar matrix elements, <0|P_f|pi^0,eta>, with P_f any of the flavor-diagonal pseudoscalar currents (f=u,d,s), to order (m_d-m_u), and to next-to-leading order in the chiral expansion. These matrix elements represent the basic input to a QCD sum rule analysis of isospin breaking in the pi NN couplings using the three-point-function method. We discuss also how one could use the results to construct a one parameter family of interpolating fields for the $π^0$, all of whose members have zero vacuum-to-$η$ matrix ele…
We analyze the properties of four-quark condensates and scalar susceptibilities in the meson gas, within finite temperature Chiral Perturbation Theory (ChPT). The breaking of the factorization hypothesis does not allow for a finite four-quark condensate and its use as an order parameter, except in the chiral limit. This is rigorously obtained within ChPT and is therefore a model-independent result. Factorization only holds formally in the large $N_c$ limit and breaks up at finite temperature even in the chiral limit. Nevertheless, the factorization breaking terms are precisely those needed to …

Chiral perturbation theory in the anomaly sector for $N_f=2$ is extended to include dynamical photons, thereby allowing a complete treatment of isospin breaking. A minimal set of independent chiral lagrangian terms is determined and the divergence structure is worked out. There are contributions from irreducible and also from reducible one-loop graphs, a feature of ChPT at order larger than four. The generating functional is non-anomalous at order $e^2p^4$, but not necessarily at higher order in $e^2$. Practical applications to $γπ\toππ$ and to the $π^0\to2γ$ amplitudes are considered. In the …
We investigate effects of a fixed nonzero isospin chemical potential on the mu_B-T phase diagram of strongly interacting matter using a Nambu--Jona-Lasinio-type four fermion interaction. We focus on the influence of a flavor-mixing interaction induced by instantons. We find that already for rather moderate values of the coupling strength in the flavor-mixing channel the recent findings of two seperate phase transitions do not persist.
We study the pion mass dependence of the rho(770) and f_0(600) masses and widths from one and two-loop unitarized Chiral Perturbation Theory. We show the consistency of one-loop calculations with lattice results for the M_rho, f_pi and the isospin 2 scattering length a_20.Then, we develop and apply the modified Inverse Amplitude Method formalism for two-loop ChPT. In contrast to the f_0(600), the rho(770) is rather sensitive to the two-loop ChPT parameters --our main source of systematic uncertainty. We thus provide two-loop unitarized fits constrained by lattice information on M_rho, f_pi, by…
In the model of low-energy bar-K N interactions near threshold (EPJA 21, 11 (2004); 25, 79 (2005)) we calculate isospin-breaking corrections to the energy level displacement of the ground state of kaonic hydrogen, investigated by Meissner, Raha and Rusetsky (EPJC 35, 349 (2004)) within the non-relativistic effective Lagrangian approach based on ChPT by Gasser and Leutwyler. Our results agree well with those by Meißner et al.. In addition we calculate the dispersive corrections, caused by the transition K^-p -> bar-K^0n ->K^-p with the bar-K^0n pair on-mass shell. We show also how hypothesis on…
Isospin breaking in the Kl4 form factors induced by the difference between charged and neutral pion masses is studied. Starting from suitably subtracted dispersion representations, the form factors are constructed in an iterative way up to two loops in the low-energy expansion by implementing analyticity, crossing, and unitarity due to two-meson intermediate states. Analytical expressions for the phases of the two-loop form factors of the K\pm -> pi^+ pi^- e^\pm nu_e channel are given, allowing one to connect the difference of form-factor phase shifts measured experimentally (out of the isospi…
I consider some selected topics in chiral perturbation theory (CHPT) as probed at colliders such as DA$Φ$NE. Emphasis is put on processes involving pions in the isospin zero S-wave which require multi-loop calculations. These include the scalar form factor of the pion, two--photon fusion into pion pairs and $K_{\ell 4}$--decays. The physics of the chiral anomaly is briefly touched upon
The spontaneous breaking of chiral symmetry (SBCS) is one of the most important phenomena of hadron physics. It defines the properties of all the light mesons and baryons. The Chiral Perturbation Theory (ChPT) encodes QCD hadronic correlators at low-energy region in the terms the low-energy constants (LEC) -- the expansion parameters on light quark current masses $m$ and external momenta $p$. The LEC's can be extracted from the phenomenology or from QCD lattice calculations. On the other hand, QCD instanton vacuum/instanton liquid model provides a very natural nonperturbative explanation of th…
We consider aspects of dynamical baryons in a holographic dual of QCD that is proposed on the basis of a D4/D8-brane configuration. We construct a soliton solution carrying a unit baryon number and show that it is given by an instanton solution of four-dimensional Yang-Mills theory with fixed size. The Chern-Simons term on the flavor D8-branes plays a crucial role of protecting the instanton from collapsing to zero size. By quantizing the collective coordinates of the soliton, we work out the baryon spectra. Negative-parity baryons as well as baryons with higher spins and isospins can be obtai…
We argue that lattice calculations of the $η'$ mass in QCD with $N_c=2$ colors performed at non-zero baryon chemical potential can be used to study the mechanism responsible for the mass of the $η'$. QCD with two colors is an ideal laboratory because it exhibits confinement, chiral symmetry breaking and a would-be $U(1)_A$ Goldstone boson at all densities. Since the instanton density and the confinement scale vary with density in a very different way, instantons are clearly distinguishable from other possible mechanisms. There is an instanton prediction for the $η'$ mass at large density that …
Based on the spontaneous breaking of chiral symmetry, chiral perturbation theory (ChPT) is believed to approximate confinement scale QCD. Dedicated and increasingly accurate experiments and improving lattice calculations are confirming this belief, and we are entering a new era in which we can test confinement scale QCD in some well chosen reactions. This is demonstrated with an overview of low energy experimental tests of ChPT predictions of $ππ$ scattering, pion properties, $π$N scattering and electromagnetic pion production. These predictions have been shown to be consistent with QCD in the…
We report on a recent study of the SU(3)-breaking corrections to the hyperon vector coupling $f_1(0)$ up to $\mathcal{O}(p^4)$ in covariant baryon chiral perturbation theory with dynamical octet and decuplet contributions. The decuplet contributions are taken into account for the first time in a covariant ChPT study and are found of similar or even larger size than the octet ones. We predict positive SU(3)-breaking corrections to all the four independent $f_1(0)$'s (assuming isospin symmetry), which are consistent, within uncertainties, with the latest results from large $N_c$ fits, chiral qua…
Basic chiral QCD parameters (the pion decay constant, the quark and gluon condensates, the dynamically generated quark mass, etc) as well as the vacuum energy density (up to the sign, by definition, the bag constant) have been calculated from first principles within a recently proposed zero modes enhancement (ZME) model of the true QCD vacuum. Our unique input data was chosen to be the pion decay constant in the chiral limit as given by the chiral perturbation theory at the hadronic level (CHPTh). In order to analyze our numerical results we set a scale by two different ways. In both cases we …
Basic chiral QCD parameters (the pion decay constant, the quark and gluon condensates, the dynamically generated quark mass, etc) as well as the vacuum energy density have been calculated from first principles within a recently proposed dynamical equations approach to QCD at low energies. The zero modes enhancement (ZME) model of quark confinement and dynamical chiral symmetry breaking (DCSB) based on the solution to the Schwinger-Dyson (SD) equation for the quark propagator in the infrared (IR) domain was used for this purpose. There are only two independent quantities by means of which calcu…
The low energy dynamics of QCD is investigated with special attention paid to the matching between QCD and chiral perturbation theory(ChPT), and also to some useful algebraic chiral operator relations which survive even when we include chiral loop corrections. It then allows us to evaluate the hadronic matrix elements below the energy scale $Λ_χ \simeq 1$ GeV. Based on the new analyzes, we present a consistent prediction for both direct CP-violating parameter $ε'/ε$ and $ΔI =1/2$ rule in the kaon decays. In the leading $1/N_c$ approximation, the isospin amplitudes $A_0$ and $A_2$ are found to …
The Bethe-Salpeter equation restores exact elastic unitarity in the $s-$ channel by summing up an infinite set of chiral loops. We use this equation to show how a chiral expansion can be undertaken in the two particle irreducible amplitude and the propagators accomplishing exact elastic unitarity at any step. Renormalizability of the amplitudes can be achieved by allowing for an infinite set of counter-terms as it is the case in ordinary Chiral Perturbation Theory. Crossing constraints can be imposed on the parameters to a given order. Within this framework, we calculate the leading and next-t…
We investigate the (partial) chiral restoration at finite temperature (T) under the strong external magnetic field B_0 of the SU(2) light-flavor QCD matter. To this end, we employ the instanton-liquid QCD vacuum configuration accompanied with the linear Schwinger method for inducing the magnetic field. The Harrington-Shepard caloron solution is used to modify the instanton parameters, i.e. the average instanton size (rho) and inter-instanton distance (R), as functions of T. In addition, we include the meson-loop corrections (MLC) as the large-N_c corrections because they are critical for repro…
