By including the strong isospin symmetry breaking effects and the electromagnetic contributions between the pseudoscalar mesons, we calculate the phase shifts of the $P$-wave $ππ$ and $Kπ$ scattering up to $\mathcal{O}(p^4)$ in the framework of the SU(3) chiral perturbation theory (ChPT) and coupled channel inverse amplitude method. We re-fit the low energy constants with the present meson-meson scattering data and derive the mass differences for the charged and neutral iso-multiplets of $ρ$ and $K^{*}$. Our results show that the mass difference between $ρ^\pm$ and $ρ^0$ is very small while the mass difference between the charged and neutral $K^*$ can reach a relatively large value of $m_{K^{*0}}-m_{K^{*+}}= 2.91^{+1.43}_{-1.41}$ MeV. This full one-loop ChPT calculation would shed some light towards a better understanding of the long-standing puzzle about the $K^*$ mass splitting.
We calculate the mass splittings within the heavy baryon isospin multiplets Σ_{c(b)} and Ξ_{c(b)}' in chiral perturbation theory to leading one-loop order. The pattern of the mass splittings in the Σ_c iso-triplet, which is different from that of any other known isospin multiplet, can be explained. We predict m_{Ξ_c'^+} - m_{Ξ_c'^0}=-0.2\pm0.6 MeV, m_{Ξ_b'^0} - m_{Ξ_b'^-}=-4.0\pm1.9 MeV and the mass of the Σ_b^0 to be 5810.3\pm1.9 MeV.
Current measurements of isospin splittings in mesons and baryons are sufficiently precise that they allow estimates of the mass difference between constituent up and down quarks. Some previous results are updated in the light of these new measurements, and the importance of better measurements of some observables such as $M(K^{*\pm})$, $M(B^{*0})-M(B^0)$, and isospin splittings in bottom baryons is noted.
We determine the constraints on the isospin and hypercharge of a scalar electroweak multiplet from partial-wave unitarity of tree-level scattering diagrams. The constraint from SU(2)_L interactions yields T <= 7/2 (i.e., n <= 8) for a complex scalar multiplet and T <= 4 (i.e., n <= 9) for a real scalar multiplet, where n = 2T+1 is the number of isospin states in the multiplet.
In order for scale factors $κ_{V}^{}~(V=W,Z)$ of the 125-GeV Higgs boson couplings to have the possibilities of being greater than unity and $κ_{W}^{} \neq κ_{Z}^{}$ while keeping the electroweak $ρ$ parameter unity at tree level, the Higgs sector must be extended with at least two exotic $SU(2)_L$ multiplets in addition to the doublet Higgs field in the Standard Model. By the requirements of perturbative unitarity, no Landau pole in gauge couplings, and no accidental global $U(1)$ symmetry, we exhaust all the possible combinations of two exotic Higgs fields and derive general formulas for $κ_…
The mass splittings of hyperons including the isospin splittings are calculated with $O(\ms^2)$ and $O(\ms \dm)$ accuracy respectively within the semibosonized SU(3)-NJL model. The pattern of the isospin splittings is not spoiled by the terms of the order $O(\ms \dm)$, and both splittings between the different isospin multiplets and within the same multiplet are well reproduced for acceptable values of $\ms$ and $\dm$.
Isospin splittings in baryons with two heavy quarks and a $u$ or $d$ quark are calculated using simple methods proposed previously by the authors. The results are $M(Ξ_{cc}^{++})-M(Ξ_{cc}^+) = 1.41 \pm 0.12^{+0.76}$ MeV, $M(Ξ_{bb}^0) - M(Ξ_{bb}^-) = - 4.78 \pm 0.06^{+0.03}$ MeV, and $M(Ξ_{bc}^+)-M(Ξ_{bc}^0)=-1.69 \pm0.07 ^{+0.39}$ MeV, where the statistical errors reflect uncertainties in input mass splittings, and the systematic errors are associated with the choice of constituent-quark masses.
The current concepts of isospin and baryon mass groups are only well-adapted to deal with baryon multiplets involving both the u and d quarks, and some other quark k. In this paper, we generalize isospin and mass groups to accommodate baryon multiplets involving quarks of any flavor, and the Gell-Mann--Okubo (GMO) formalism is generalized accordingly. Generalized isospin proves to be a simple and valuable framework when working in non-udk baryon multiplets, and provides new quantum numbers that allows us to distinguish $Λ$-like baryons from $Σ$-like baryons in the non-udk multiplets. The gener…
Invoked by the recent CMS observation regarding candidates of the $χ_b(3P)$ multiplet, we analyze the ultrafine and mass splittings among $3P$ multiplet in our unquenched quark model (UQM) studies. The mass difference of $χ_{b2}$ and $χ_{b1}$ in $3P$ multiplet measured by CMS collaboration ($10.6 \pm 0.64 \pm 0.17$ MeV) is very close to our theoretical prediction ($12$ MeV). Our corresponding mass splitting of $χ_{b1}$ and $χ_{b0}$ enables us to predict more precisely the mass of $χ_{b0}(3P)$ to be ($10490\pm 3$) MeV. Moreover, we predict ratios of the radiative decays of $χ_{bJ}(nP)$ candidat…
The coupled Bethe--Salpeter bound state equations for a $Q\bar Q$ system, where $Q=(U,D)$ is a degenerate, fourth generation, super--heavy quark doublet, are solved in several ladder approximation models. The exchanges of gluon, Higgs and Goldstone modes in the standard model are calculated in the ultra--heavy quark limit where weak $γ, W^\pm$ and $Z^0$ contributions are negligible. A natural $I=0$ and $I=1$ multiplet pattern is found, with large splittings occuring between the different weak iso--spin states when $M_Q$, the quark masses, are larger than values in the range $0.4 TeV<M_Q<0.8 Te…
Flavor-exotic tetraquark mesons have recently been observed in the heavy-quark pair sectors of QCD, including two isospin multiplets in the b b-bar sector, Z_b(10610) and Z_b(10650), and one isospin multiplet in the c c-bar sector, Z_c(3900). We identify Z_b and Z_c as tetraquark mesons that are analogs of quarkonium hybrids with the gluon field replaced by an isospin-1 excitation of the light-quark fields. Given the identification of Y(4260) and Z_c(3900) as a ground-state charmonium hybrid and tetraquark, respectively, lattice QCD calculations of the charmonium spectrum can be used to estima…
The isospin mass splittings of the pseudoscalar and vector D and B light-heavy quark system have been calculated using the method of QCD sum rules. Nonperturbative QCD effects are shown to be very small, so that mass splittings arise almost completely from current quark mass splitting and electromagnetic effects, for which a new gauge invariant QED treatment is used. The results are consistent with experiment. A measurement of the isospin splitting of the vector B mesons would give valuable information about quark mass splittings.
The mass splittings of the pseudoscalar and vector D and B light-heavy quark systems have been calculated using the method of QCD sum rules. Electromagnetic, quark mass, and nonperturbative QCD effects are all included. The results are in good agreement with experiment. A measurement of isospin splitting for the vector B mesons would give valuable information about quark mass splittings.
New heavy particles in an SU(2)_L multiplet, sometimes introduced in extensions of the standard model, have highly degenerate tree-level mass M if their couplings to the Higgs bosons are very small or forbidden. However, loop corrections may generate the gauge-symmetry-breaking mass splitting within the multiplet, which does not vanish in the large M limit due to the threshold singularity. We calculate the electroweak contribution to the mass splitting for a heavy fermion multiplet, to the two-loop order. Numerically, two-loop electroweak contributions are typically O(MeV).
We discuss the mass differences for isospin multiplets of the charmed and b-flavored baryons. The mass of the neutral b-flavored sigma baryon, which is not measured, is calculated. We point out, that the measurements of the mass differences between the charmed sigma and chi baryons might be wrong.
In a class of AMSB models, the splitting in the Wino multiplet turns out to be very small, such as the often-quoted 170 MeV in minimal AMSB, which originates from MSSM loops. Such a small mass gap is potentially a window into higher scale physics, as it may be sensitive to higher-dimensional operators. We show that still within AMSB one can get a much larger splitting in the Wino multiplet--a few GeV--if the scale of the new physics is comparable to the gravitino mass (which is indeed often the scale of new physics in anomaly mediation).
The SELEX Collaboration has reported a very large isospin splitting of doubly charmed baryons. We show that this effect would imply that the doubly charmed baryons are very compact. One intriguing possibility is that such baryons have a linear geometry Q-q-Q where the light quark q oscillates between the two heavy quarks Q, analogous to a linear molecule such as carbon dioxide. However, using conventional arguments, the size of a heavy-light hadron is expected to be around 0.5 fm, much larger than the size needed to explain the observed large isospin splitting. Assuming the distance between tw…
So far, the masses of excited states of mixed orbital symmetry and in particular those of nonstrange $[{\bf 70},1^-]$ baryons derived in the $1/N_c$ expansion were based on the separation of a system of $N_c$ quarks into a symmetric core and an excited quark. Here we avoid this separation and show that an advantage of this new approach is to substantially reduce the number of linearly independent operators entering the mass formula. A novelty is that the isospin-isospin term becomes as dominant in $Δ$ as the spin-spin term in $N$ resonances.
New data for X(3872) production in B decays provide a separation between X production and decay, sharpen several experimental puzzles and impose serious constraints on all models. Both charged and neutral B decays produce a narrow neutral resonant state that decays to both J/ψρand J/ψω, while no charged resonances in the same multiplet are found. This suggests that the X is an isoscalar resonance whose production conserves isospin, while isospin is violated only in the decay by an electromagnetic interaction allowing the isospin-forbidden J/ψρdecay. A tetraquark isoscalar X model is proposed w…
In a $SU(6)$ gauge theory we found the irreducible representation (175-plet) which does not contain the Higgs doublet. Using this representation we construct two SUSY $SU(6)$ models in which the doublet-triplet splitting occurs naturally, without fine tuning. The crucial role is played by the ``custodial" global $SU(2)_H$ in combination with discrete or continuous $R$ symmetries.
Decay constants of $D$ and $B$ mesons are estimated within the framework of a heavy-quark approach using measured isospin mass splittings in the $D$, $D^*$, and $B$ states to isolate the electromagnetic hyperfine interaction between quarks. The values $f_D = (262 \pm 29)$ MeV and $f_B = (160 \pm 17)$ MeV are obtained. Only experimental errors are given; possible theoretical ambiguities, and suggestions for reducing them, are noted.
It is argued that the heavy-quark limit of QCD requires a certain combination of hyperfine mass splittings in heavy-quark hybrid-meson multiplets to be unusually small. This observation will assist in the exploration of the heavy-quark hybrid spectrum at facilities such as PANDA. Alternatively, a large measured value for this mass splitting indicates that at least one member of the multiplet must contain significant light-quark degrees of freedom.
Baryon mass splittings are analyzed in terms of a simple model with general pairwise interactions. At present, the $Δ$ masses are poorly known from experiments. Improvement of these data would provide an opportunity to make a significant test of our understanding of electromagnetic and quark-mass contributions to hadronic masses. The problem of determining resonance masses from scattering and production data is discussed.
Recent experiments show that the isospin-violating mass splitting of the B mesons is very small, but the best fits with a QCD sum rule analysis give a splitting of at least 1.0 MeV. The isospin-violating mass splittings of the charmed mesons, on the other hand, are in agreement with experiment. In this letter we show that the inclusion of 2$^{nd}$ kind QED penguin diagrams can account for this discrepancy within the errors in the QCD sum rule method.
A recent general analysis of light-baryon isospin splittings is updated and extended to charmed baryons. The measured $Σ_c$ and $Ξ_c$ splittings stand out as being difficult to understand in terms of two-body forces alone. We also discuss heavy-light mesons; though the framework here is necessarily less general, we nevertheless obtain some predictions that are not strongly model-dependent.
We discuss the isospin-breaking mass differences among baryons, with particular attention in the charm sector to the $Σ_c^{+}-Σ_c^0$, $Σ_c^{++}-Σ_c^0$, and $Ξ_c^+-Ξ_c^0$ splittings. Simple potential models cannot accommodate the trend of the available data on charm baryons. More precise measurements would offer the possibility of testing how well potential models describe the non-perturbative limit of QCD.

The radiatively-induced splitting of masses in electroweak multiplets is relevant for both collider phenomenology and dark matter. Precision two-loop corrections of $\mathcal{O}$(MeV) to the triplet mass splitting in the wino limit of the minimal supersymmetric standard model can affect particle lifetimes by up to $40\%$. We improve on previous two-loop self-energy calculations for the wino model by obtaining consistent input parameters to the calculation via two-loop renormalisation-group running, and including the effect of finite light quark masses. We also present the first two-loop calcul…
We study the influence of the isospin asymmetry on the phase structure of strongly interacting quark matter near the tricritical point (TCP) using a generalized Ginzburg-Landau approach. The effect has proven to be so drastic, not only bringing about the shift of the location of TCP, but resulting in a rich fine structure at the vicinity of TCP. In particular, we find that an arbitrary small perturbation due to isospin density lifts the degeneracy of TCP making it split into four independent multicritical points. Accordingly, the homogeneous pion condensate and its solitonic counterpart come t…
The recent measurement by CDF M(Sigma_b)-M(Lambda_b)=192 MeV is in striking agreement with our theoretical prediction M(Sigma_b)-M(Lambda_b) = 194 MeV. In addition, the measured splitting M(Sigma_b*)-M(Sigma_b) = 21 MeV agrees well with the predicted splitting of 22 MeV. We point out the connection between these predictions and an effective supersymmetry between mesons and baryons related by replacing a light antiquark by a light diquark. We discuss the theoretical framework behind these predictions and use it to provide additional predictions for the masses of spin-1/2 and spin-3/2 baryons co…
In this paper, the electromagnetic mass differences of heavy hadrons are discussed, while ignoring the relevant hyperfine interactions. The effects of one-photon exchange interaction and up-down quark mass difference are parameterized. Two mass difference equations 2Σ_c^+ - (Σ_c^{++} + Σ_c^0) = 2Σ_b^0 - (Σ_b^+ + Σ_b^-) and (Ξ_{cc}^+ - Ξ_{cc}^{++}) + (Ξ_{bb}^- - Ξ_{bb}^{0}) =2(Ξ_{bc}^0 - Ξ_{bc}^{+}) for the heavy baryons are obtained. In addition, the masses of Σ_b^0, Ξ_b^0, and Ξ_{cc}^{++} are predicted based on the known experimental data.
Within the QCD sum-rule approach in an external field, we calculate the baryon matrix element of isovector-scalar current, $H_{\rm B}=\langle B|\overline{u}u- \overline{d}d|B\rangle/2M_{\rm B}$, for octet baryons, which appears in the response of the correlator of baryon interpolating fields to a constant isovector-scalar external field. The sum rules are obtained for a general baryon interpolating field with an appropriate form for the phenomenological ansatz of the spectral density. The key phenomenological input is the response of the quark condensates to the external field. To first order …
An important tool for the analysis of results of numerical simulations of lattice QCD is chiral perturbation theory. In Wilson chiral perturbation theory the effects of the finite lattice spacing $a$ are taken into account. In recent years the effects of isospin splitting on the masses of hadrons have been investigated in Monte Carlo simulations. Correspondingly, in this article we derive the expansions of the masses of the pseudoscalar mesons in chiral perturbation theory at next-to-leading order for twisted mass lattice QCD with three light quark flavours, taking the mass difference between …
We generalize the usual octet, decuplet and exotic antidecuplet and higher baryon multiplets to any number of colours Nc. We show that the multiplets fall into a sequence of bands with O(1/Nc) splittings inside the band and O(1)splittings between the bands characterized by "exoticness", that is the number of extra quark-antiquark pairs needed to compose the multiplet. Each time one adds a pair the baryon mass is increased by the same constant which can be interpreted as a mass of a quark-antiquark pair. At the same time, we prove that masses of exotic rotational multiplets are reliably determi…
We estimate exclusive density and asymmetry parameter dependent dispersion relations of various charged states of pions in asymmetric nuclear matter. The possibility of matter induced mixing of $π^0$ with $η$ is clearly exposed with the further mass modification of $π^0$ meson due to mixing. Asymmetry driven mass splitting and mixing amplitude are of the same order as the corresponding values in vacuum. Closed form analytic results for the mass shifts and dispersion relations with and without mixing are presented. Furthermore, we discuss the sensitivity of our results on the scalar mean field …
Lattice QCD simulations are now reaching a precision where isospin breaking effects become important. Previously, we have developed a program to systematically investigate the pattern of flavor symmetry beaking within QCD and successfully applied it to meson and baryon masses involving up, down and strange quarks. In this Letter we extend the calculations to QCD + QED and present our first results on isospin splittings in the pseudoscalar meson and baryon octets. In particular, we obtain the nucleon mass difference of $M_n-M_p=1.35(18)(8)\,\mbox{MeV}$ and the electromagnetic contribution to th…
The experimental data on pi N scattering in the elastic energy region T_pi < 250 MeV are analyzed within the multichannel K-matrix approach with effective Lagrangians. Isospin invariance is not assumed in this analysis and the physical values for masses of the involved particles are used. The corrections due to pi^+- pi^0 and p-n mass differences are calculated and found to be in a reasonable agreement with the NORDITA results. Analysis shows the good description of the all experimental observables. From the data, new values for mass and width of the Delta^0 and Delta^{++} resonances were obta…
Recent data on the $D^*$ masses confirm the QCD prediction based on the \REF{\ICHJL}{Isaac Cohen and Harry J. Lipkin, \plb{84}{323}{1979}} very general assumption $\({\ICHJL}\)$ that the spin-dependence of the quark couplings to photons and gluons have the same structure and differ only in the value of the coupling constants, This prediction with no free parameters and using the $Ξ$ and $Ξ^*$ masses as input follows from noting that the charmed antiquark $\bar c$ and the strange diquark (ss) have exactly the same couplings to both the photon (Q=-2/3) and to the gluon (both are color antitriple…
We propose a scenario where only the Higgs multiplets have direct couplings to a supersymmetry (SUSY) breaking sector. The standard model matter multiplets as well as the gauge multiples are sequestered from the SUSY breaking sector; therefore, their masses arise via anomaly mediation at the high energy scale with a gravitino mass of $\sim$100 TeV. Due to renormalization group running effects from the Higgs soft masses, the masses of the third generation sfermions become O(10) TeV at the low energy scale, while the first and second generation sfermion masses are O(0.1-1) TeV, avoiding the tach…
We discuss the isospin symmetry breaking (ISB) of the valence- and sea-quark distributions between the proton and the neutron in the framework of the chiral quark model. We assume that isospin symmetry breaking is the result of mass differences between isospin multiplets and then analyze the effects of isospin symmetry breaking on the Gottfried sum rule and the NuTeV anomaly. We show that, although both flavor asymmetry in the nucleon sea and the ISB between the proton and the neutron can lead to the violation of the Gottfried sum rule, the main contribution is from the flavor asymmetry in the…
A Hoelder inequality analysis of the QCD Laplace sum-rule which probes the non-strange (n\bar n) components of the I={0,1} (light-quark) scalar mesons supports the methodological consistency of an effective continuum contribution from instanton effects. This revised formulation enhances the magnitude of the instanton contributions which split the degeneracy between the I=0 and I=1 channels. Despite this enhanced isospin splitting effect, analysis of the Laplace and finite-energy sum-rules seems to preclude identification of a_0(980) and a light broad sigma-resonance state as the lightest isove…
An electroweak multiplet stable due to a new global symmetry is a simple and well-motivated candidate for thermal dark matter. We study how direct searches at a future linear collider, such as the proposed CLIC, can constrain scalar and fermion triplets, quintets and septets, as well as a fermion doublet. The phenomenology is highly sensitive to charged state lifetimes and thus the mass splitting between the members of the multiplet. We include both radiative corrections and the effect of non-renormalisable operators on this splitting. In order to explore the full range of charged state lifeti…
The accessibility to physics responsible for tiny neutrino mass suggests that the mass should better originate from certain higher dimensional operators. The conventional three types of seesaw operate at dimension five with the help of either a new fermion or scalar multiplet. Here we propose a seesaw that generates neutrino mass through a dimension-(5+4n) operator. The seesaw is functioned by a fermion of isospin n+1 and zero hypercharge and a sequence of scalar multiplets that share unity hypercharge but have isospin from 3/2 to n+1/2 at a step of unity. Only the scalar of the highest isospi…
Using an SU(3) flavour symmetry breaking expansion in the quark mass, we determine the QCD component of the nucleon, Sigma and Xi mass splittings of the baryon octet due to up-down (and strange) quark mass differences in terms of the kaon mass splitting. Provided the average quark mass is kept constant, the expansion coefficients in our procedure can be determined from computationally cheaper simulations with mass degenerate sea quarks and partially quenched valence quarks. Both the linear and quadratic terms in the SU(3) flavour symmetry breaking expansion are considered; it is found that the…
We consider a scenario in which additional vectorlike TeV-scale fermions belonging to higher weak-isospin multiplets provide new seesaw mediators. If these fermions have non-zero hypercharge, their tree-level exchange produces novel seesaw mechanism different from type I and III seesaw. In order to produce Majorana masses for light neutrinos, new Dirac seesaw mediators are constrained by the SM gauge symmetry to belong to a weak triplet and a five-plet. The latter, in conjunction with two isospin 3/2 scalar multiplets, leads to new seesaw formula m_ν~ v^6/M^5. It reproduces the empirical masse…
The radiatively-induced mass splitting between components of an electroweak multiplet is typically of order 100 MeV. This is sufficient to endow the charged components with macroscopically-observable lifetimes, and ensure an electrically-neutral dark matter particle. We show that a commonly used iterative procedure to compute radiatively-corrected pole masses can lead to very different mass splittings than a non-iterative calculation at the same loop order. By estimating the uncertainties of the two one-loop results, we show that the iterative procedure is significantly more sensitive to the c…
Strong isospin breaking in the spectrum of the nucleons and deltas can be studied in lattice QCD with the help of chiral perturbation theory. At leading order in the chiral expansion, the mass splittings between the proton and neutron and between the deltas are linear in the quark mass difference. The next-to-leading order contributions to these splittings vanish even away from the strong-isospin limit. Therefore, any non-linear quark mass dependence of these mass splittings is a signal of the next-to-next-to-leading order mass contributions, thus providing access to LECs at this order. We det…
We study electromagnetic as well as strong isospin breaking effects in the isospin mass splittings of light pseudoscalar and vector mesons. To this end we employ a coupled system of quark Dyson-Schwinger and meson Bethe-Salpeter equations whose interaction kernels contain gluon, pion and photon exchange interactions. In bound states, QCD-induced isospin breaking is manifest on different levels. On the one hand, a different explicit up- and down-quark mass directly affects the propagators of the constituent quarks. On the other hand, it leads to different interaction kernels within the isospin …
Based on mean field calculations with Skyrme interactions, we extract a constraint on the isovector effective mass in nuclear matter at saturation density $ρ_0$, i.e., $m_{v}^{\ast}(ρ_0)=(0.77\pm0.03) m$ by combining the experimental data of the centroid energy of the isovector giant dipole resonance (IVGDR) and the electric dipole polarizability $α_{\mathrm{D}}$ in $^{208}$Pb. Meanwhile, the isoscalar effective mass at $ρ_0$ is determined to be $m_{s}^{\ast}(ρ_0)=(0.91\pm0.05) m$ by analyzing the measured excitation energy of the isoscalar giant quadrupole resonance (ISGQR) in $^{208}$Pb. Fro…
The pentaquark states, $P_{c}(4312)$, $P_{c}(4440)$ and $P_{c}(4450)$, can be nicely arranged into a multiplet of seven molecules of $\bar{D}^{(\ast)}Σ_{c}^{(\ast)}$ dictated by heavy quark spin symmetry, while the $Ξ_{cc}^{(\ast)}Σ_{c}^{(\ast)}$ system can be related to the $\bar{D}^{(\ast)}Σ_{c}^{(\ast)}$ system via heavy antiquark diquark symmetry. In this work we employ the one boson exchange model to study the interactions between $Ξ_{cc}^{(\ast)}$ and $Σ_{c}^{(\ast)}$ with constraints from the pentaquark system. We show that a multiplet of ten triply charmed dibaryons emerge naturally in…
While electromagnetic and up-down quark mass difference effects on octet baryon masses are very small, they have important consequences. The stability of the hydrogen atom against beta decay is a prominent example. Here we include these effects by adding them to valence quarks in a lattice QCD calculation based on $N_f=2+1$ simulations with 5 lattice spacings down to 0.054 fm, lattice sizes up to 6 fm and average up-down quark masses all the way down to their physical value. This allows us to gain control over all systematic errors, except for the one associated with neglecting electromagnetis…
The broad importance of a recent experimental discovery of pentaquarks requires more theoretical insight into the structure of higher representation multiplets. The nucleon axial-vector coupling, moments of inertia, the {\bf 8}, {\bf 10}, $\bar{\bf 10}$, and ${\bf 27}_{3/2}$ absolute mass spectra and the higher SU(3)$_f$ representation mass splittings for the multiplets ${\bf 8}$, ${\bf 10}$, $\bar{\bf 10}$, ${\bf 27}$, ${\bf 35}$, $\bar{\bf 35}$, and $\bf 64$ are computed in the framework of the minimal ${\rm SU(3)_f}$ extended Skyrme model by using only one free parameter, i.e., the Skyrme c…
We study the axial-vector form factor of the nucleons at constant and homogenous isospin chemical potential using holographic QCD. Nucleon mass splitting in such isospin medium is taken into account. According to AdS/CFT correspondence, the critical value of the isospin chemical potential μ_I equals to UV- boundary value of the time component of the bulk gauge field. We calculate the axial-vector form factor of the proton and neutron in such background in the framework of the hard-wall model and plot the form factors for the isospin chemical potential critical value μ_I=m_π.
The mass structure of hadron multiplets is understood to imply the inexactness of SU(3) symmetry. Here we show that these symmetry broken mass splittings amongst baryon and meson multiplet members are close integral multiples of the mass difference between a neutral pion and a muon, the first excitation within the elementary particle mass spectrum. This is found to be equally true for the mass intervals amongst the particles belonging to the multiplets having different spin and parity characteristics. The results reinforce our earlier contention that the mass difference between a neutral pion …
We generalize to string theory a construction, originally proposed in field theory, that generates a hierarchy in the splittings between members of super-multiplets in various sectors of the theory.
Modifications of the mass spectrum the quarkonium induced by its virtual dissociation into a pair of heavy mesons is considered. Coupling between quark and mesonic channels results in noticeable corrections to spin-dependent mass splitting. In particular, the observable hierarchy of mass splittings in the $χ_c, χ_b$ and $χ'_b$ multiplets is reproduced.
The isospin symmetry breakings of q{\bar q} are investigated in the QCD sum rule method. The electromagnetic effects are evaluated following the procedure requiring that the electromagnetic effects for charged meson be gauge invariant. We find that the electromagnetic effects are also dominant in the isospin violations of rho meson, which have been shown to be the case in the mass splittings of pions. The numerical results for the difference of pion decay constants and the masses of rho mesons are presented, which are consistent with the data.
