While electromagnetic and up-down quark mass difference effects on octet baryon masses are very small, they have important consequences. The stability of the hydrogen atom against beta decay is a prominent example. Here we include these effects by adding them to valence quarks in a lattice QCD calculation based on $N_f=2+1$ simulations with 5 lattice spacings down to 0.054 fm, lattice sizes up to 6 fm and average up-down quark masses all the way down to their physical value. This allows us to gain control over all systematic errors, except for the one associated with neglecting electromagnetism in the sea. We compute the octet baryon isomultiplet mass splittings, as well as the individual contributions from electromagnetism and the up-down quark mass difference. Our results for the total splittings are in good agreement with experiment.
We study the isospin symmetry breaking and mass splittings of the eight lowest-lying baryons. We consider three kinds of baryon mass terms, including the bare mass term, the electromagnetic terms and the spontaneous chiral symmetry breaking terms. We include the mixing term between flavor-octet and flavor-decuplet baryons. This assumes that the lowest-lying Sigma and Xi baryons contain a few decuplet components and so are not purely flavor-octet. We achieve a good fitting that the difference between every fitted mass and its experimental value is less than 0.2 MeV.
Using an SU(3) flavour symmetry breaking expansion in the quark mass, we determine the QCD component of the nucleon, Sigma and Xi mass splittings of the baryon octet due to up-down (and strange) quark mass differences in terms of the kaon mass splitting. Provided the average quark mass is kept constant, the expansion coefficients in our procedure can be determined from computationally cheaper simulations with mass degenerate sea quarks and partially quenched valence quarks. Both the linear and quadratic terms in the SU(3) flavour symmetry breaking expansion are considered; it is found that the…
We calculate baryon decuplet to octet electromagnetic transition form factors in quenched and partially quenched chiral perturbation theory. We work in the isospin limit of SU(3) flavor, up to next-to-leading order in the chiral expansion, and to leading order in the heavy baryon expansion. Our results are necessary for proper extrapolation of lattice calculations of these transitions. We also derive expressions for the case of SU(2) flavor away from the isospin limit.
We present work designed to compute baryon masses on $N_f = 2 + 1$ CLS ensembles including isospin-breaking effects due to non-degenerate light quark masses and electromagnetic interactions. These effects are determined at leading order via a perturbative expansion around the iso-symmetric theory. We furthermore apply a group-theoretical operator construction for the various interpolators describing the different members of the baryon octet and decuplet based on a classification by spin, parity, and flavor content.
We calculate the electric charge radii of the SU(3) pseudoscalar mesons and the SU(3) octet baryons in quenched and partially quenched chiral perturbation theory. We work in the isospin limit, up to next-to-leading order in the chiral expansion, and to leading order in the heavy baryon expansion. The results are necessary for the extrapolation of future lattice calculations of meson and baryon charge radii. We also derive expressions for the nucleon and pion charge radii in SU(2) flavor away from the isospin limit.
We calculate the $m_d-m_u$ contribution to the mass splittings in baryonic isospin multiplets using SU(3) chiral perturbation theory and lattice QCD. Fitting isospin-averaged perturbation theory functions to PACS-CS and QCDSF-UKQCD Collaboration lattice simulations of octet baryon masses, and using the physical light quark mass ratio $m_u/m_d$ as input, allows $M_n-M_p$, $M_{Σ^-}-M_{Σ^+}$ and $M_{Ξ^-}-M_{Ξ^0}$ to be evaluated from the full SU(3) theory. The resulting values for each mass splitting are consistent with the experimental values after allowing for electromagnetic corrections. In th…
Lattice QCD simulations are now reaching a precision where isospin breaking effects become important. Previously, we have developed a program to systematically investigate the pattern of flavor symmetry beaking within QCD and successfully applied it to meson and baryon masses involving up, down and strange quarks. In this Letter we extend the calculations to QCD + QED and present our first results on isospin splittings in the pseudoscalar meson and baryon octets. In particular, we obtain the nucleon mass difference of $M_n-M_p=1.35(18)(8)\,\mbox{MeV}$ and the electromagnetic contribution to th…
The mass spectrum of the lowest lying octet baryons is calculated to next-to-next-to-leading order in heavy baryon chiral perturbation theory and partially quenched heavy baryon chiral perturbation theory. We work in the isospin limit and treat the decuplet baryons as dynamical fields. These results are necessary for extrapolating QCD and partially quenched QCD lattice simulations of the octet baryon masses.
Recently, the Budapest-Marseille-Wuppertal collaboration achieved sub-percent precision in the evaluation of the lowest-order hadronic vacuum polarization contribution to the muon $g_μ-2$ (arXiv:hep-lat/2002.12347v3). At this level of precision, isospin-symmetric QCD is not sufficient. In this contribution we review how QED and strong-isospin-breaking effects have been included in our work. Isospin breaking is implemented by expanding the relevant correlation functions to second order in the electric charge $e$ and to first order in $m_u-m_d$. The correction terms are then computed using isosp…
Isospin symmetry is explicitly broken in the Standard Model by the non-zero differences of mass and electric charge between the up and down quarks. Both of these corrections are expected to have a comparable size of the order of one percent relatively to hadronic energies. Although these contributions are small, they play a crucial role in hadronic and nuclear physics. In this review we explain how to properly define QCD and QED on a finite and discrete space-time so that isospin corrections to hadronic observables can be computed ab-initio. We then consider the different approaches to compute…
We report on the physical-point RBC/UKQCD calculation of the leading isospin-breaking corrections to light-meson leptonic decays. This is highly relevant for future precision tests in the flavour physics sector, in particular the first-row unitarity of the Cabibbo-Kobayashi-Maskawa matrix containing the elements $V_{us}$ and $V_{ud}$. The simulations were performed using Domain-Wall fermions for $2+1$ flavours, and with isospin-breaking effects included perturbatively in the path integral through order $α$ and $(m_u - m_d)/Λ_{\mathrm{QCD}}$. We use QED$_{\mathrm{L}}$ for the inclusion of elect…
Mixing in the $Σ^0$-$Λ^0$ system is a direct consequence of broken isospin symmetry and is a measure of both isospin-symmetry breaking as well as general SU(3)-flavour symmetry breaking. In this work we present a new scheme for calculating the extent of $Σ^0$-$Λ^0$ mixing using simulations in lattice QCD+QED and perform several extrapolations that compare well with various past determinations. Our scheme allows us to easily contrast the QCD-only mixing case with the full QCD+QED mixing.
The mass splittings in the pseudoscalar mesons are studied by combining 2+1 flavor domain wall fermion gauge configurations, generated by the RBC/UKQCD collaborations, and quenched, non-compact, lattice QED configurations. We extract the QED low energy constants in SU(3) partially quenched chiral perturbation theory, up to next-to-leading order, and determine the non-degenerate u, d and s quark masses. Systematic uncertainties due to chiral extrapolations are discussed. The chiral symmetry breaking of domain wall fermions on the lattice and its effect in partially quenched chiral perturbation …
We study the isospin breaking effect on octet baryons. Using the two-flavor dynamical domain-wall QCD configurations combined with the quenched non-compact QED configurations, the electromagnetic mass splittings between isomultiplets (p, n), (Sigma^+, Sigma^0, Sigma^-), (Xi^0, Xi^-) are investigated. We evaluate the main source of statistical fluctuations in the two-point correlation function, and find that the elimination of O(e) fluctuation (e: the QED charge) is essential to extract the signal. Preliminary results for $m_p - m_n$ as well as other mass splittings are presented. Possible orig…
We present results on the pseudoscalar meson masses from a fully dynamical simulation of QCD+QED. We concentrate particularly on violations of isospin symmetry. We calculate the $π^+$-$π^0$ splitting and also look at other isospin violating mass differences. We have presented results for these isospin splittings in arXiv:1508.06401 [hep-lat]. In this paper we give more details of the techniques employed, discussing in particular the question of how much of the symmetry violation is due to QCD, arising from the different masses of the $u$ and $d$ quarks, and how much is due to QED, arising from…
We report a new analysis of the isospin splittings within the decuplet baryon spectrum. Our numerical results are based upon five ensembles of dynamical QCD+QED lattices. The analysis is carried out within a flavour-breaking expansion which encodes the effects of breaking the quark masses and electromagnetic charges away from an approximate SU(3) symmetric point. The results display total isospin splittings within the approximate SU(2) multiplets that are compatible with phenomenological estimates. Further, new insight is gained into these splittings by separating the contributions arising fro…
We present an exploratory study of leading isospin breaking effects in mesonic masses using $O(a)$ improved Wilson fermions. Isospin symmetry is explicitly broken by distinct masses and electric charges of the up and down quarks. In order to be able to make use of existing isosymmetric QCD gauge ensembles we apply reweighting techniques. The path integral describing QCD+QED is expanded perturbatively in powers of the light quarks' mass deviations and the electromagnetic coupling. We employ QED$_{\mathrm{L}}$ as a finite volume formulation of QED.
We propose a scheme of lattice twisted-mass fermion regularization which is particularly convenient for application to isospin breaking (IB) QCD and QED calculations, based in particular on the so called RM123 approach, in which the IB terms of the action are treated as a perturbation. The main, practical advantage of this scheme is that it allows the calculation of IB effects on some mesonic observables, like e.g. the pi+ - pi0 mass splitting, using lattice correlation functions in which the quark and antiquark fields in the meson are regularized with opposite values of the Wilson parameter r…
We present a lattice calculation of the leading-order electromagnetic and strong isospin-breaking corrections to the hadronic vacuum polarization (HVP) contribution to the anomalous magnetic moment of the muon. We employ the gauge configurations generated by the European Twisted Mass Collaboration (ETMC) with $N_f = 2+1+1$ dynamical quarks at three values of the lattice spacing ($a \simeq 0.062, 0.082, 0.089$ fm) with pion masses between $\simeq 210$ and $\simeq 450$ MeV. The results are obtained adopting the RM123 approach in the quenched-QED approximation, which neglects the charges of the s…
Electromagnetic properties of the octet mesons as well as the octet and decuplet baryons are augmented in quenched and partially quenched chiral perturbation theory to include O(a) corrections due to lattice discretization. We present the results for the SU(3) flavor group in the isospin limit as well as the results for SU(2) flavor with non-degenerate quarks. These corrections will be useful for extrapolation of lattice calculations using Wilson valence and sea quarks, as well as calculations using Wilson sea quarks and Ginsparg-Wilson valence quarks.
We present an exploratory study of leading isospin breaking effects in mesonic masses using $O(a)$ improved Wilson fermions with open boundaries. Isospin symmetry is explicitly broken by distinct masses and electric charges of the up and down quarks. In order to be able to make use of existing isosymmetric QCD gauge ensembles we apply reweighting techniques. The path integral describing QCD+QED is expanded perturbatively in powers of deviations in the quark masses and the inverse strong coupling as well as the electromagnetic coupling. We have constructed QED$_{\mathrm{L}}$, which we use as a …
We present a method to evaluate on the lattice the leading isospin breaking effects due to both the small mass difference between the up and down quarks and the QED interaction. Our proposal is applicable in principle to any QCD+QED gauge invariant hadronic observable which can be computed on the lattice. It is based on the expansion of the path-integral in powers of the small parameters (m_d - m_u)/Lambda_{QCD} and alpha_{em}, where m_f is the renormalized quark mass and alpha_{em} the renormalized fine structure constant. In this paper we discuss in detail the general strategy of the method …
We present results for the QED and strong isospin breaking corrections to the hadronic vacuum polarization using $N_f=2+1$ Domain Wall fermions. QED is included in an electro-quenched setup using two different methods, a stochastic and a perturbative approach. Results and statistical errors from both methods are directly compared with each other.
The decreasing uncertainties in theoretical predictions and experimental measurements of several hadronic observables related to weak processes, which in many cases are now smaller than $\mathrm{O}(1\%)$, require theoretical calculations to include subleading corrections that were neglected so far. Precise determinations of leptonic and semi-leptonic decay rates, including QED and strong isospin-breaking effects, can play a central role in solving the current tensions in the first-row unitarity of the CKM matrix. In this work we present the first RBC/UKQCD lattice calculation of the isospin-br…
We include the lowest-lying octet- and decuplet-baryons into partially quenched chiral perturbation theory. Perturbing about the chiral limit of the graded SU(6|3)_L x SU(6|3)_R flavor group of partially quenched QCD, we compute the leading one-loop contributions to the octet-baryon masses, magnetic moments and matrix elements of isovector twist-2 operators. We work in the isospin limit and keep two of the three sea quarks degenerate. The usefulness of the non-unique extension of the electric charge matrix and the isovector twist-2 operators from QCD to partially quenched QCD is discussed.
We present the status of an ongoing project aimed at the inclusion of isospin-breaking corrections arising from the non-degeneracy of the light quark masses and electromagnetic interactions in calculations of the low-lying octet and decuplet baryon masses. Our ultimate goal is to perform a precision determination of the lattice scale including isospin-breaking effects. We apply the perturbative formalism to isospin-symmetric $N_f=2+1$ CLS ensembles. We show results on baryon masses up to leading order in isospin-breaking corrections on two ensembles with $m_π\approx290\,\text{MeV}$ and $m_π\ap…
Isospin symmetry is not exact and the corrections to the isosymmetric limit are, in general, at the percent level. For gold plated quantities, such as pseudoscalar meson masses or the kaon leptonic and semileptonic decay rates, these effects are of the same order of magnitude of the errors quoted in nowadays lattice calculations and cannot be neglected any longer. In this talk I discuss the methods that have been developed in the last few years to calculate isospin breaking corrections by starting from first principles lattice simulations. In particular, I discuss how to perform a combined QCD…
We study the isospin mass differences of singly heavy baryons, based on a pion mean-field approach. We consider both the electromagnetic interactions and the hadronic contributions that arise from the mass difference of the up and down quarks. The relevant parameters have been already fixed by the baryon octet. In addition, we introduce the strong hyperfine interactions between the light quarks inside a chiral soliton and the Coulomb interactions between the chiral soliton and a heavy quark. The numerical results are in good agreement with the experimental data. In particular, the results for …
We present a lattice calculation of the leading corrections to the masses of nucleons and $Δ$ resonances. These are obtained in QCD+QED at $1$st order in the Isospin Breaking parameters $α_{EM}$, the electromagnetic coupling, and $\frac{\hat{m}_d - {\hat{m}}_u}{Λ_{QCD}}$, coming from the mass difference between $u$ and $d$ quarks.
Systems with the quantum numbers of up to twelve charged and neutral pseudoscalar mesons, as well as one-, two-, and three-nucleon systems, are studied using dynamical lattice quantum chromodynamics and quantum electrodynamics (QCD+QED) calculations and effective field theory. QED effects on hadronic interactions are determined by comparing systems of charged and neutral hadrons after tuning the quark masses to remove strong isospin breaking effects. A non-relativistic effective field theory, which perturbatively includes finite-volume Coulomb effects, is analyzed for systems of multiple charg…
We calculate the strong isospin breaking and QED corrections to meson masses and the hadronic vacuum polarization in an exploratory study on a $64\times24^3$ lattice with an inverse lattice spacing of $a^{-1}=1.78$ GeV and an isospin symmetric pion mass of $m_π=340$ MeV. We include QED in an electro-quenched setup using two different methods, a stochastic and a perturbative approach. We find that the electromagnetic correction to the leading hadronic contribution to the anomalous magnetic moment of the muon is smaller than $1\%$ for the up quark and $0.1\%$ for the strange quark, although it s…
Accounting for isospin-breaking corrections is critical for achieving subpercent precision in lattice computations of hadronic observables. A way to include QED and strong-isospin-breaking corrections in lattice QCD calculations is to impose C$^\star$ boundary conditions in space. Here, we demonstrate the computation of a selection of meson and baryon masses on two QCD and five QCD+QED gauge ensembles in this setup, which preserves locality, gauge and translational invariance all through the calculation. The generation of the gauge ensembles is performed for two volumes, and three different va…
In a previous letter (arXiv:1306.2287) we determined the isospin mass splittings of the baryon octet from a lattice calculation based on quenched QED and $N_f{=}2{+}1$ QCD simulations with 5 lattice spacings down to $0.054~\mathrm{fm}$, lattice sizes up to $6~\mathrm{fm}$ and average up-down quark masses all the way down to their physical value. Using the same data we determine here the corrections to Dashen's theorem and the individual up and down quark masses. For the parameter which quantifies violations to Dashens's theorem, we obtain $ε=0.73(2)(5)(17)$, where the first error is statistica…
Isospin symmetry is explicitly broken in the Standard Model by the mass and electric charge of the up and down quarks. These effects represent a perturbation of hadronic amplitudes at the percent level. Although these contributions are small, they play a crucial role in hadronic and nuclear physics. Moreover, as lattice computations are becoming increasingly precise, it is becoming more and more important to include these effects in numerical simulations. We summarize here how to properly define QCD and QED on a finite and discrete space-time so that isospin corrections to hadronic observables…
Isospin is an almost exact symmetry of strong interactions and the corrections to the isosymmetric limit are, in general, at the percent level. For several hadronic quantities relevant for flavour physics phenomenology, such as pseudoscalar meson masses or the kaon leptonic and semileptonic decay rates, these effects are of the same order of magnitude of the uncertainties quoted in current large-scale QCD simulations on the lattice and cannot be neglected anymore. In this contribution I discuss some recent results for the leptonic decay rates of light pseudoscalar mesons obtained by the Soton-…
A determination of the hadronic vacuum polarization contribution to the anomalous magnetic moment of the muon from lattice QCD aiming at a precision of $1\%$ requires to include isospin breaking corrections in the computation. We present a lattice calculation of the QED and strong isospin breaking corrections to the hadronic vacuum polarization with Domain Wall fermions. The results are obtained using quark masses which are tuned such that pion and kaon masses agree with their physical values including isospin breaking corrections.
Electromagnetic effects play an important role in many phenomena such as isospin-symmetry breaking in the hadron spectrum and the hadronic contributions to g-2. We have generalized the MILC QCD code to include the electromagnetic field. In this work, we focus on simulations including charged sea quarks using the RHMC algorithm. We show details of the dynamical QCD+QED simulation algorithm with compact QED. We analyze the code performance and results for hadron-spectrum observables.
Isospin breaking effects in baryon octet (and decuplet) masses are due to a combination of up and down quark mass differences and electromagnetic effects and lead to small mass splittings. Between the Sigma and Lambda this mass splitting is much larger, this being mostly due to their different wavefunctions. However when isospin is broken, there is a mixing between between these states. We describe the formalism necessary to determine the QCD mixing matrix and hence find the mixing angle and mass splitting between the Sigma and Lambda particles due to QCD effects.
We investigate the electromagnetic mass splittings in the pseudoscalar meson and nucleon systems by combining 2+1 flavor domain wall fermion gauge configurations, generated by the RBC and UKQCD collaborations, and quenched, non-compact, lattice QED configurations. We analyze finite volume effects by using $16^3\times 32$ and $24^3\times 64$ lattices.
We present a lattice calculation of the Hadronic Vacuum Polarization (HVP) contribution to the anomalous magnetic moments of the electron, $a_e^{\rm HVP}$, the muon, $a_μ^{\rm HVP}$, and the tau, $a_τ^{\rm HVP}$, including both the isospin-symmetric QCD term and the leading-order strong and electromagnetic isospin-breaking corrections. Moreover, the contribution to $a_μ^{\rm HVP}$ not covered by the MUonE experimen, $a_{MUonE}^{\rm HVP}$, is provided. We get $a_e^{\rm HVP} = 185.8~(4.2) \cdot 10^{-14}$, $a_μ^{\rm HVP} = 692.1~(16.3) \cdot 10^{-10}$, $a_τ^{\rm HVP} = 335.9~(6.9) \cdot 10^{-8}$ …
Hadronic spectral functions of $τ$ decays have been used in the past to provide an alternative determination of the LO Hadronic Vacuum Polarization relevant for the (g-2) of the muon. Following recent developments and results in Lattice QCD+QED calculations, we explore the possibility of studying the isospin breaking corrections of $τ$ spectral functions for this prediction. We present preliminary results at physical pion mass based on Domain Wall Fermion ensembles generated by the RBC/UKQCD collaboration.
Following the 1999 analysis of Gambino, Haisch and one of us, we stress that all the recent NLO analyses of $\varepsilon'/\varepsilon$ in the Standard Model (SM) suffer from the renormalization scheme dependence present in the electroweak penguin contributions as well as from scale uncertainties in them related to the matching scale $μ_W$ and in particular to $μ_t$ in $m_t(μ_t)$. We also reemphasize the important role of isospin-breaking and QED effects in the evaluation of $\varepsilon'/\varepsilon$. Omitting all these effects, as done in the 2015 analysis by RBC-UKQCD collaboration, and choo…
Using the Coulomb gauge formulation of QED we present a lattice QCD procedure to calculate the $π^+π^+$ scattering phase shift including the effects of the Coulomb potential which appears in this formulation. The approach described here incorporates the effects of relativity and avoids finite-volume corrections that vanish as a power of the volume in which the lattice calculation is performed. This is the first step in developing a complete lattice QCD calculation of the electromagnetic and isospin-breaking light-quark mass contributions to $\varepsilon'$, the parameter describing direct CP vi…
We show that maximally twisted mass fermions can be employed to regularize on the lattice the fully unquenched QCD+QED theory with vanishing $θ$-term. We discuss how the critical mass of the up and down quarks can be conveniently determined beyond the electroquenched approximation by imposing that certain symmetries of continuum QCD+QED, which are broken by Wilson terms, get restored in the continuum limit. A mixed action setup is outlined that allows to extend beyond the electroquenched approximation the computation (with only O($a^2$) artifacts) of the leading isospin breaking corrections to…
We present a preliminary lattice calculation of the leading-order electromagnetic and strong isospin-breaking corrections to the Hadronic Vacuum Polarization (HVP) contribution of the light quarks to the anomalous magnetic moment of the muon. The results are obtained in the quenched-$QED$ approximation using the $QCD$ gauge configurations generated by the European Twisted Mass Collaboration (ETMC) with $N_f = 2 + 1 + 1$ dynamical quarks, at three values of the lattice spacing varying from $0.089$ to $0.062 ~ \mbox{fm}$, at several lattice volumes and with pion masses in the range $M_π\simeq 22…
We discuss leading isospin breaking effects in the hadronic vacuum polarisation required for the investigation of the hadronic contribution to $(g-2)_μ$. The calculation proceeds by expanding the relevant correlation functions around the isosymmetric limit. Isosymmetric observables are evaluated on gauge ensembles with $N_{f}=2+1$, $O(a)$ improved Wilson fermions and open boundary conditions generated by the CLS effort. Particular emphasis is placed on the relevant quark-disconnected diagrams required for a complete treatment of leading isospin breaking effects in the valence quark sector. We …
We study $SU(3)$ flavor-breaking corrections to the relation between the octet baryon masses and the nucleon-meson CP-violating interactions induced by the QCD $\barθ$ term. We work within the framework of $SU(3)$ chiral perturbation theory and work through next-to-next-to-leading order in the $SU(3)$ chiral expansion, which is $\mathcal{O}(m_q^2)$. At lowest order, the CP-odd couplings induced by the QCD $\barθ$ term are determined by mass splittings of the baryon octet, the classic result of Crewther et al. We show that for each isospin-invariant CP-violating nucleon-meson interaction there …
The numerical value of the fine-structure constant generally leads to small isospin-breaking effects due to electromagnetism in QCD. This smallness complicates determining isospin breaking from lattice QCD computations that include electromagnetism. One solution to this problem consists of performing computations using larger-than-physical values of the electric charge, and subsequently extrapolating (or interpolating) to the physical value of the fine-structure constant. Motivated by recent lattice QCD + QED computations of electromagnetic masses employing this setup, we consider finite-volum…
The leading-order electromagnetic and strong isospin-breaking corrections to the ratio of $K_{μ2}$ and $π_{μ2}$ decay rates are evaluated for the first time on the lattice, following a method recently proposed. The lattice results are obtained using the gauge ensembles produced by the European Twisted Mass Collaboration with $N_f = 2 + 1 + 1$ dynamical quarks. Systematics effects are evaluated and the impact of the quenched QED approximation is estimated. Our result for the correction to the tree-level $K_{μ2} / π_{μ2}$ decay ratio is $-1.22\,(16) \%$ to be compared to the estimate $-1.12\,(21…
The leading electromagnetic (e.m.) and strong isospin-breaking corrections to the $π^+ \to μ^+ ν[γ]$ and $K^+ \to μ^+ ν[γ]$ leptonic decay rates are evaluated for the first time on the lattice. The results are obtained using gauge ensembles produced by the European Twisted Mass Collaboration with $N_f = 2 + 1 + 1$ dynamical quarks. The relative leading-order e.m.~and strong isospin-breaking corrections to the decay rates are 1.53(19)\% for $π_{μ2}$ decays and 0.24(10)\% for $K_{μ2}$ decays. Using the experimental values of the $π_{μ2}$ and $K_{μ2}$ decay rates and updated lattice QCD results f…
We report on a calculation of the effects of isospin breaking in Lattice QCD+QED. This involves using Chiral Perturbation Theory with Electromagnetic corrections to find the renormalized, non-degenerate, light quark masses. The calculations are carried out on QCD ensembles generated by the RBC and UKQCD collaborations using Domain Wall Fermions and the Iwasaki and Iwasaki+DSDR Gauge Actions with unitary pion masses down to 170 MeV. Non-compact QED is treated in the quenched approximation. The simulations use a $32^3$ lattice size with $a^{-1}=2.28(3)$ GeV (Iwasaki) and 1.37(1) (Iwasaki+DSDR). …
In recent years, lattice determinations of non-perturbative quantities such as $f_K$ and $f_π$, which are relevant for $V_{us}$ and $V_{ud}$, have reached an impressive precision of $\mathcal{O}(1\%)$ or better. To make further progress, electromagnetic and strong isospin breaking effects must be included in lattice QCD simulations. We present the status of the RBC/UKQCD lattice calculation of isospin-breaking corrections to light meson leptonic decays. This computation is performed in a (2+1)-flavor QCD simulation using Domain Wall Fermions with near-physical quark masses. The isospin-breakin…
