The charm quark offers interesting opportunities to cross-check the mechanism of CP violation precisely tested in the strange and beauty sectors. In this paper, we exploit the angular and quantum correlations in the D\bar{D} pairs produced through the decay of the psi(3770) resonance in a charm factory to investigate CP-violation in two different ways. We build CP-violating observables in psi(3770) -> D\bar{D} -> (V_1V_2)(V_3 V_4) to isolate specific New Physics effects in the charm sector. We also consider the case of psi(3770) -> D\bar{D} -> (V_1V_2)(Kπ) decays, which provide a new way to measure the strong phase difference delta between Cabibbo-favored and doubly-Cabibbo suppressed D decays required in the determination of the CKM angle gamma. Neglecting the systematics, we give a first rough estimate of the sensitivities of these measurements at BES-III with an integrated luminosity of 20 fb^-1 at psi(3770) peak and at a future Super tau-charm factory with a luminosity of 10^35 cm^-2.s^-1.
Study of CP violation in the decay channel Bs->J/psi phi is essential to exploring and constraining physics beyond the Standard Model in the quark flavour sector. The experimental progress in this area of activity at the LHC and Tevatron is discussed.
We propose to search for CP-violating effects in the decay psi(2S)->J/psi+pi+pi. The scheme has the advantage that one does not need to track two or more CP-conjugate processes. Model independent amplitudes are derived for this purpose. The fact that leading CP violating terms are O(k) under low energy expansion and the processes are flavor disconnected make the measurement of these CP breaking parameters practical. Our results can be extended to the case of Upsilon(2S)->Upsilon(1S)+pi+pi and Upsilon(3S)->Upsilon(2S)+pi+pi straightforwardly.
The B^0_s -> J/psi K_S decay has recently been observed by the CDF collaboration and will be of interest for the LHCb experiment. It is the U-spin partner of the golden B^0_d -> J/psi K_S channel and offers a determination of the angle gamma of the unitarity triangle. Moreover, it allows us to control the hadronic penguin effects in the extraction of the B^0_d-\bar B^0_d mixing phase phi_d through a measurement of CP violation in B^0_d^0 -> J/psi K_S. We discuss the picture emerging for these measurements from an LHCb feasibility study. While LHCb will be able to extract gamma from the CP viol…
The B_s^0 -> J/psi K_S decay has recently been observed by the CDF collaboration and will be of interest for the LHCb experiment. This channel will offer a new tool to extract the angle gamma of the unitarity triangle and to control doubly Cabibbo-suppressed penguin corrections to the determination of sin(2beta) from the well-known B_d^0 -> J/psi K_S mode with the help of the U-spin symmetry of strong interactions. While any competitive determination of gamma is interesting, the latter aspect is particularly relevant as LHCb will enter a territory of precision which makes the control of doubly…
We explore charged-Higgs CP-violating effects in an intriguing two-Higgs doublet model which accords special status to the top quark. In this model the heaviness of the top quark originates naturally from the much larger VEV of the second Higgs doublet compared to that of the first. The phenomenology of this model is quite distinct from that of the usual formulations of the two-Higgs doublet model. In particular, the model can easily account for the observed CP violation in the kaon sector even if the CKM matrix is real. The associated non-standard CP phase can be monitored through measurement…
Estimates of the branching ratios for B_{d,s}->J/psi eta and B_{d,s}->eta l+l- are obtained by SU(3) relation to B_d->J/psi K and B_d->K l+l-, respectively, as functions of the eta mixing parameter, theta_P. Based on these estimates, a discussion of the prospects for HERA-B, CDF-II, and ATLAS on these processes is given. The CP violation in B_{d,s}-> J/psi eta is analyzed in depth and a method to extract the angle gamma of the unitarity triangle is discussed. Finally, a possible method to constrain the Wilson coefficient C_{10A} from measurements on semileptonic B decays such as B_d->J/psi K a…
Currently there are New Physics hints in mixing-induced CP violation S(phi K0), S(pi0 K0) < S(J/psi K0), unequal direct CP violation A(K+ pi-) differs A(K+ pi0), and maybe even in measured S(J/psi K0) vs prediction from global fit to other data. However, these hints either suffer from experimental uncertainties, or uncertain hadronic corrections, and are not yet unequivocal. Motivated by these hints, however, we point out that a unique probe may be direct CP violation in B to JψK mode. An asymmetry observed at 1% or higher would indicate New Physics.
The $ψ'\to J/ψπ^+π^-$ decay process provides a new way to extract the $ππ$ $S$ wave phase shifts up to $0.59GeV$. In this paper we derive the formulae for extracting the $ππ$ $S$ wave phase shifts from the invariant mass spectrum of $ππ$ in the $ψ'\to J/ψπ^+π^-$ decay.
Direct CP violation can occur in B-meson decays of the type b -> d+c+cbar, where the charm-anticharm pair forms a J/psi. The CP asymmetry requires the contribution to the amplitude from decays into other states, which rescatter into d+J/psi via final state interactions. In particular, states with the same quark content as d+J/psi can contribute. A perturbative calculation, based on a quark level description of the rescattering process, gives an asymmetry of about 1%, due to this effect. This makes it the dominant contribution to the asymmetry, as suggested by an earlier estimate, based on an h…
We emphasize that the recent measurements of the B^0_s - bar B^0_s mass difference Delta M_s by the CDF and D0 collaborations offer an important model independent test of minimal flavour violation (MFV). The improved measurements of the angle gamma in the unitarity triangle and of |V_ub| from tree level decays, combined with future accurate measurements of Delta M_s, S_{psi K_S}, S_{psi phi}, Br(B_{d,s} -> mu+ mu-), Br(B -> X_{d,s} nu bar nu), Br(K+ -> pi+ nu bar nu) and Br(K_L -> pi^0 nu bar nu) and improved values of the relevant non-perturbative parameters, will allow to test the MFV hypoth…
We derive model independent lower bounds on the CKM parameters (1-rhobar) and etabar as functions of the mixing-induced CP asymmetry S in B-> pi+ pi- and sin(2 beta) from B->psi K_S. The bounds do not depend on specific results of theoretical calculations for the penguin contribution to B-> pi+ pi-. They require only the very conservative condition that a hadronic phase, which vanishes in the heavy-quark limit, does not exceed 90 degrees in magnitude. The bounds are effective if -sin(2 beta) < S < 1. Dynamical calculations indicate that the limits on rhobar and etabar are close to their actual…
We study the determination of gamma from CP-violating observables in B -> pi+ pi- and B -> psi K_S. This determination requires theoretical input to one combination of hadronic parameters. We show that a mild assumption about this quantity may allow bounds to be placed on gamma, but we stress the pernicious effects that an eightfold discrete ambiguity has on such an analysis. The bounds are discussed as a function of the direct (C) and interference (S) CP-violating observables obtained from time-dependent B -> pi+ pi- decays, and their behavior in the presence of new physics effects in B-Bbar …
If the c-quark has an anomalous color-electric dipole moment (CEDM), it may serve as a new source of CP violation. The strength of such a CP violation depends on the size of the CEDM, d'_c. We propose two effective ways of testing it from the large sample of psi'->J/psi+pi(+)+pi(-) at the Beijing Spectrometer, and the obtained result, |d'_c|<3X10^{-14} e cm (95% C.L.), gives the first experimentally determined upper bound on the CEDM of the c quark.
J/psi and psi' decay to mesons are a good place to look for glueballs, hybrids and for extracting strange and nonstrange components in mesons. Abundant J/psi and psi' events have been collected at the Beijing Electron Positron Collider (BEPC). More data will be collected at upgraded BEPC and CLEO-C. Here we provide explicit PWA formulae for many interesting channels in the covariant tensor formalism.
In this talk I discuss three different methods, using B_d to J/psi K_S, J/psi K_s pi^o, B_d to K^- pi^+, pi^+ pi^- and B_u to K^- pi^0, bar K^0 pi^- pi^- pi^0, to extract hadronic model independent information about new physics.
We consider a mechanism by which dyons (electrically charged magnetic monopoles) can produce both a T- and P-odd (i.e. time reversal invariance and parity violating) mixed polarizability beta [defined by Delta E = -beta E.B, where Delta E is the energy change when electric (E) and magnetic (B) fields are applied to a system] and a T- and P-odd interaction between two particles: psi_1-bar gamma_5 psi_1 psi_2-bar psi_2, where the psi_i are electron and quark spinors. The latter can create atomic and neutron electric dipole moments (EDMs). From experimental bounds on these we find limits on the p…
This paper is concerned with the physics of meson decays to J/psi and phi. These decays have been observed at the Tevatron [7] and, in particular, should be copiously observed at the LHCb detector. This paper gives a concise presentation of the basic physics analysis and a general formalism for analyzing the signals of CP violation.
We compute the O(alpha_s^2) correction to the decay rate eta_c --> gamma gamma and discuss its implications for precision quarkonium physics. We study the suitability of the ratio Gamma(J/psi --> e+e-)/Gamma(eta_c --> gamma gamma), in which the non-perturbative or soft effects cancel at O(alpha_s^{0,1}), for extracting fundamental parameters of QCD at low energies. We show that the QCD-based theory of charmonia is not capable of predicting this ratio with any degree of confidence.
The D0 collaboration has recently announced evidence for a dimuon CP asymmetry in B_{d,s} decays of order one percent. If confirmed, this asymmetry requires new physics. We argue that for minimally flavor violating (MFV) new physics, and at low tan beta=v_u/v_d, there are only two four-quark operators (Q_{2,3}) that can provide the required CP violating effect. The scale of such new physics must lie below 260 GeV sqrt{tan beta}. The effect is universal in the B_s and B_d systems, leading to S_{psi K}~sin(2beta)-0.15 and S_{psi phi}~0.25. The effects on epsilon_K and on electric dipole moments …
The isospin violating $J/Ψ\to ϕπ^0 η$ decay is thought to be dominated by the mixing of the $f_0(980)$ and $a_0(980)$ scalar resonances. We make a theoretical evaluation of the $J/Ψ\to ϕπ^0 η$ decay extending our own previous model for other $J/Ψ$ decays into one vector meson and two pseudoscalars using the techniques of the chiral unitary approach. The scalar resonances are dynamically generated through the final state interaction of the pseudoscalar mesons implementing unitarity from the lowest order ChPT amplitudes. Besides the direct $J/ΨϕPP$ vertex, other mechanisms like the sequential ex…
Recently, the CDF and D0 collaborations measured indirect CP violation in Bs -> J/psi phi and found a hint of a signal. If taken at face value, this can be interpreted as a nonzero phase of Bs-Bsbar mixing (beta_s), in disagreement with the standard model, which predicts that beta_s ~= 0. In this paper, we argue that this analysis may be incomplete. In particular, there can be new physics (NP) in the bbar -> sbar c cbar decay. If so, the value of beta_s is different than for the case in which NP is assumed to be present only in the mixing. We have examined several models of NP and found that, …
Non-leptonic B_s decays into CP eigenstates that are caused by \bar b -> \bar cc\bar s quark-level transitions, such as B_s -> D_s^+D^-_s, J/psi eta^(') or J/psi phi, provide a powerful tool to search for ``new physics'', as the CP-violating effects in these modes are tiny in the Standard Model. We explore these effects for a particular scenario of new physics, the left-right-symmetric model with spontaneous CP violation. In our analysis, we take into account all presently available experimental constraints on the parameters of this model, i.e. those implied by K- and B-decay observables; we f…
We discuss various issues related to the definition of single and double open charm cross sections. We conclude that LHCb's extraction of sigma_effective, the effective cross section for double-parton scattering, is too large by a factor of two. This correction brings the data from open-charm pairs closer to that from J/psi plus open charm and jet production.
New data on high-pT spectra of J/psi measured by the CDF Collaboration at the Tevatron are analyzed in the framework of z-scaling. F-dependence of z-presentation of the data is used to construct the scaling function of J/psi. The energy independence of the scaling function is used to predict inclusive cross section of prompt J/psi production in bar pp collisions at high-pT. The concept of z-scaling is considered to reflect the general features of high-pT particle production in hadron-hadron and hadron-nucleus collisions. Violation of z-scaling is suggested to consider as a signature of new phy…
The observation of CP violation in meson decays is a testament to the Cabibbo-Kobayashi-Maskawa (CKM) quark mixing paradigm, and an integral part of the Standard Model (SM). The SM also predicts the existence of CP violation in baryon decays that is yet to be observed. A critical test of the SM requires that CP violation be measured in baryon decays as well, in order to verify that it agrees with the measurement using meson decays. In this paper, we propose a modification to the recently proposed method to measure CP violating phase $γ$ in $b$-baryons, using interference arising implicitly due…
The presence of a permanent electric dipole moment in an elementary particle implies Charge-Parity symmetry violation and thus could help explain the matter-antimatter asymmetry observed in our universe. Within the context of the Standard Model, the electric dipole moment of elementary particles is extremely small. However, many Standard Model extensions such as supersymmetry predict large electric dipole moments. Recently, the muon electric dipole moment has become a topic of particular interest due to the tensions in the magnetic anomaly of the muon and the electron, and hints of lepton-flav…
Direct CP violation in B -> J/Psi K is a clean test for new physics. However, the direct CP asymmetry will vanish if the new-physics amplitude has the same strong phase as the standard-model amplitude. We show that this type of new physics can still be detected via an angular analysis of the sister decay mode B -> J/Psi K^*. Time-dependent measurements and tagging are not necessary. Should new physics be found, this angular analysis can be used to obtain information about the size of the new-physics parameters.
A supersymmetric extension of the Standard Model, with maximal s_R-b_R mixing and a new source of CP violation, contains all the necessary ingredients to account for a possible anomaly in the measured CP asymmetry in B->phi K_s decay. In the same framework we study the decay B->J/psi K*, paying particular attention to observables that can be extracted by performing a time dependent angular analysis, and become nonzero because of new physics effects.
We estimate the most important corrections to the branching ratios for the invisible decays of quarkonium states, arising from possible extensions of the standard model. Among the possibilities considered are the presence of extra Z-bosons, minimal supersymmetric extensions of the standard model with R-parity violation, and decays into goldstinos. Prospects of detecting these corrections at existing and future B-factories and tau-charm factories are discussed.
The stringent correlations between flavour observables in models with CMFV are consistent with the present data except for the correlation Delta M_{s,d}-epsilon_K. Motivated by the recent work of Barbieri et al, we compare the CMFV correlations with the ones present in a special class of models with an approximate global U(2)^3 flavour symmetry, constrained by a minimal set of spurions governing the breakdown of this symmetry and the assumption that only SM operators are relevant in flavour physics. This analog of CMFV to be called MU(2)^3 allows to avoid the Delta M_{s,d}-epsilon_K tension in…
An analysis from the D0 Collaboration measuring the charge asymmetry A^b_sl of like-sign dimuon events due to semileptonic b-hadron decays at the Fermilab Tevatron Collider is described. It differs by 3.2 standard deviations from the Standard Model prediction to provide first evidence of CPT-invariant anomalous CP violation in the mixing of neutral B mesons, and is compared to the CP-violating phase obtained from a D0 analysis of the time-dependent decay angles in B0_s -> J/psi phi. If CPT violation is allowed, the dimuon asymmetry also yields the first sensitivity to CPT violation in the B0_s…
A brief review of CP violation in the $B$-meson system and of strategies to determine the angles $α$, $β$ and $γ$ of the unitarity triangle of the CKM matrix is given. Both general aspects and some recent developments are discussed, including a critical look at the ``benchmark'' modes, CP violation in penguin decays, $B_s$ decays in the light of the width difference $ΔΓ_s$, charged $B$ decays, and strategies to probe the CKM angle $γ$ with $B\toπK$ modes.
The phenomenon of CP violation and strategies for extracting the angles of the unitarity triangle are reviewed. Special emphasis is given to the B-meson system, as it plays an outstanding role to test the Standard Model description of CP violation at future experimental B-physics facilities. Both general aspects and recent developments are discussed. It is pointed out that combined branching ratios for $B_{u,d}\toπK$ modes, which have been observed recently by the CLEO collaboration, and untagged $B_s\to K\bar{K}$ decays may allow us to derive interesting constraints on the CKM angle $γ$ and m…
Heavy, as yet undiscovered particles, can affect measurements of CP violation in the B system. Measuring CP violation in the Bs system provides an excellent place to observe such effects since Standard Model sources are predicted to produce very small effects. The angle -2beta_s, the "phase of Bs-\bar{B}s mixing," thought to be best measured in Bs -> J/psiϕdecays is of order -0.04, while the CP violating asymmetry in Bs -> ϕϕis predicted to be zero, due to the cancellation of the mixing phase with the decay phase. Recent measurements of β_s in J/psiϕ, while not definitive, are much larger than…
We exploit the angular and quantum correlations in the $D\bar{D}$ pairs produced through the decay of the $ψ(3770)$ resonance in a charm factory to investigate CP-violation in two different ways. We consider the case of $ψ(3770)\rightarrow D\bar{D}\rightarrow (V_1V_2)(Kπ)$ decays, which provide a new way to measure the strong phase difference $δ$ between Cabibbo-favored and doubly-Cabibbo suppressed $D$ decays required in the determination of the CKM angle $γ$. We also build CP-violating observables in $ψ(3770)\rightarrow D\bar{D}\rightarrow (V_1V_2)(V_3 V_4)$ to isolate specific new physics e…
Exploiting $B$-meson decays for Standard Model tests and beyond requires a precise understanding of the strong final-state interactions that can be provided model-independently by means of dispersion theory. This formalism allows one to deduce the universal pion-pion final-state interactions from the accurately known $ππ$ phase shifts and, in the scalar sector, a coupled-channel treatment with the kaon-antikaon system. In this work an analysis of the decays $\bar B_d^0 \to J/ψπ^+π^-$ and $\bar B_s^0 \to J/ψπ^+π^-$ is presented. We find very good agreement with the data up to 1.05 GeV with a nu…
The review covers transitions between M0 and M0bar in all four systems M0 = K0, D0, B0 and Bs. These systems are ideal laboratories for studying the discrete symmetries T and CPT. The properties of time reversal T are discussed in classical and quantum mechanics. T violation in K0 K0bar transitions has been observed in 1970 independent of assuming CPT symmetry by using the Bell-steinberger unitarity relation. Improvements of this observation are reviewed including the latest results in 2013. They show with high significance that CP violation in K0 K0bar transitions is only T violation without …
Recently, the BES collaboration has published an extensive partial wave analysis of experimental data on J/psi -> phi pi+pi-, J/psi -> omega pi+pi-, J/psi -> phi K+K- and J/psi -> omega K+K-. These new results are analyzed here, with full account of detection efficiencies, in the framework of a chiral unitary description with coupled-channel final state interactions between pi-pi and K-bar K pairs. The emission of a dimeson pair is described in terms of the strange and nonstrange scalar form factors of the pion and the kaon, which include the final state interaction and are constrained by unit…
We discuss the concepts and methodology to implement an experiment probing directly Time Reversal (T) non-invariance, without any experimental connection to CP violation, by the exchange of "in" and "out" states. The idea relies on the B0-antiB0 entanglement and decay time information available at B factories. The flavor or CP tag of the state of the still living neutral meson by the first decay of its orthogonal partner overcomes the problem of irreversibility for unstable systems, which prevents direct tests of T with incoherent particle states. T violation in the time evolution between the …
We analyze the chargino contributions to B_d - B-bar_d mixing and CP asymmetry of the B_d --> J/psi K_S decay, in the framework of the mass insertion approximation. We derive model independent bounds on the relevant mass insertions. Moreover, we study these contributions in supersymmetric models with minimal flavor violation, Hermitian flavor structure, and small CP violating phases and universal strength Yukawa couplings. We show that in supersymmetric models with large flavor mixing, the observed values of sin(2 beta) may be entirely due to the chargino-up-squark loops.
We review recent results on hadronic B meson decays including rare as well as non-suppressed decays. The main emphasis is on those channels relevant to measurement of CP violation in the coming B factories. After briefly describing flavor-tagged charm counting, we cover B -> DK(*), B -> charmless 2-body decays, inclusive eta' production, and final-state-interaction phases in B -> Psi K* and B -> D* rho.
The non-minimal flavour violating interactions of mirror quarks and new heavy gauge bosons in the Littlest Higgs model with T-parity (LHT) give rise to naturally large CP-violating effects in the B_s system. In view of a large new CP phase in B_s - anti-B_s mixing hinted by the CDF and D0 data and the recent UTfit analysis, we update our 2006 analysis of particle-antiparticle mixing and rare K and B decays in the LHT model, using the most recent values of a number of input parameters and performing a more careful error analysis. We find that the CP-asymmetry S_{psi phi} can easily reach values…
In this paper we study the impact of data that can be obtained from a Charm Factory on the determination of the CKM parameter gamma from decays of the form B -> D0 K where the D0 decays to specific inclusive and exclusive final states. In particular, for each exclusive final state $f$, the charm factory can determine the strong phase difference between D0-> f and D0-bar -> f by exploiting correlations in psi(3770)-> D0 D0-bar. This provides crucial input to the determination of gamma via the interference of B+- -> K+- D0 -> f with B+- -> K+- D0-bar -> f. We discuss how the method may be genera…
A possibility to measure CP-violation in B0-decays by ATLAS experiment was investigated. With one year of running at luminosity 10^33 cm-2s-1 with a muon pt-trigger threshold of 20GeV and rapidity coverage eta<2.5 of the tracking detector the rate of 1490 events B0->J/psi->mumupipi can be reached.
In high statistics observations of B^o --> J/ψK0, originating from the process Upsilon(4S)--> B0 B0, it should be possible to observe `cascade mixing', where one mixing particle, the B0, turns into another, the K0. This is possible despite the difficulty that the length of the beam crossing region makes a precise definition of the primary vertex impossible. This difficulty is circumvented by using an `away side' tag to specify the initial time. We review the formalism for describing such processes, and first apply it to simple B0 mixing, noting it gives a transparent description for CP and T a…
We report on an extensive analysis of FCNC and CPV effects in SUSY theories. We present results for Delta F=2 and Delta F=1 processes governed by b --> s transitions both in the low and high tanbeta regime, focussing in particular on S_psi_phi, the phase of Bs mixing. We emphasize that while the MFV framework is not suited to explain potentially large effects in S_psi_phi as indicated by recent data from CDF and D0, models with large right-right mass insertions in the 32 sector provide natural frameworks to account for such effects. Exemplarily we consider two SUSY models based on an abelian a…
Following searches for photinos and very light gravitinos in invisible decays of psi and Upsilon, we discuss new limits on Light Dark Matter and U bosons, from psi and Upsilon decays, as well as rare decays of K+ and invisible decays of pi0, eta and eta' ... . The new limits involving the vector couplings of the U to quarks turn out, not surprisingly, to be much less restrictive than existing ones on axial couplings, from an axionlike behavior of a light U boson, tested in psi --> gamma U, Upsilon --> gamma U and K+ --> pi+ U decays (or as compared to the limit from parity-violation in atomic …
Recent developments in the theory of CP violation in the B-meson system are reviewed, with focus on the determination of sin(2beta) from B-> J/psi K decays, its implications for tests of the Standard Model and searches for New Physics, and the determination of gamma and alpha from charmless hadronic B decays.
In the absence of natural flavor conservation, multi-Higgs doublet models generally contain new sources of CP violation and anomalous charged Higgs Yukawa couplings. We present a charged-Higgs CP violation study of one such two-Higgs doublet model (2HDM) which treats the top quark differently from the other quarks. The phenomenological implications for the K-Kbar system and for B decays differ significantly from those of the standard model (SM) and of the 2HDM's with natural flavor conservation. In particular, the SM phase in this model could take a wide range of values, and the CP asymmetry i…
The coming flavour precision era will allow to uncover various patterns of flavour violation in different New Physics (NP) scenarios that are presently washed out by hadronic and experimental uncertainties. We illustrate this by performing the anatomy of flavour violation in the 331 models, based on the gauge group SU(3)_C X SU(3)_L X U(1)_X that are among the simplest NP scenarios with new sources of flavour and CP violation. The latter originate dominantly through the flavour violating interactions of ordinary quarks and leptons with a new heavy Z' gauge boson. After discussing first these m…
The approximate symmetry of the strong interactions under isospin transformations is among the most precise tools available to control hadronic matrix elements. It is crucial in extracting fundamental parameters, but also provides avenues for the search of phenomena beyond the Standard Model. The precision of the resulting predictions requires special care when determining the quantities they are to be tested with. Specifically, in the extraction of branching ratios often isospin symmetry is assumed at one point or another implicitly, implying a significant bias for precision analyses. We extr…
We explore charged-Higgs cp-violating effects in a specific type III two-Higgs doublet model which is theoretically attractive as it accommodates the large mass of the top quark in a natural fashion. Two new CP-violating phases arise from the right-handed up quark sector. We consider CP violation in both neutral and charged B decays. Some of the important findings are as follows. 1) Large direct-CP asymmetry is found to be possible for B+- to psi/J K+-. 2) Sizable D-anti-D mixing effect at the percent level is found to be admissible despite the stringent constraints from the data on K-anti-K m…
Recent experimental observations of CP asymmetry in B0 -> psi K0 constitute the first significant signal of CP violation outside the neutral kaon system; thus they represent an important milestone to test the CKM paradigm. We, therefore, undertake a critical appraisal of the existing experimental and theoretical inputs used to deduce constraints on sin(2 beta) and other important parameters and thus find, in particular, sin(2 beta) > 0.50 at 95% CL which is completely compatible with the combined experimental result: sin(2 beta) = 0.46 +- 0.17, representing an important success of the CKM mode…
Based on $ψ(3686)$ decays of 106 million, the 1.31 billion J/psi events and a data sample of $ψ(3770)$ with $2.9~fb^{-1}$ integrated luminosity, many analyses are performed. Exclusively baryonic decays of the $ψ(3770)$, the radiative transition $ψ(3770)\toγη_c(2S)$, the $ψ(3770)$ transition to $χ_{cJ}$, isospin violation decay $χ_{c0,2}\toπ^0η_c$, the $C-$parity violation decays $J/ψ\toγγ,γϕ$ are searched for, but no significant signals are observed, and upper limits are set for these decays. The decays of $ψ(3770)\toγχ_{c1}$ and $J/ψ\toπ^0ϕ$ signals are observed. These measurements provide mo…
We analyze the correlations between electric dipole moments (EDMs) of the neutron and heavy atoms and CP violation in B_{s,d} mixing in two Higgs doublet models respecting the Minimal Flavour Violation hypothesis, with flavour-blind CP-violating (CPV) phases. In particular, we consider the case of flavour-blind CPV phases from i) the Yukawa interactions and ii) the Higgs potential. We show that in both cases the upper bounds on the above EDMs do not forbid sizable non-standard CPV effects in B_s mixing. However, if a large CPV phase in B_s mixing will be confirmed, this will imply EDMs very cl…
A complete study of teh angualr distributions of the process Lambda_b to Lambda V(1-) with lambda to p pi- and V(J/Psi) to l+l- or V(rho0,omega, phi) to pi+ pi-, K+K- is performed. Emphasis is put on the initial Lambda-b polarization produced in the proton-proton collisions and, without any dynamical assumption, polarized density-matrices of the vector-mesons V are derived and help to construct T-odd observables which allow us to perform tests of both Time-Reversal and CP violation.
We point out that the observed CP violation in Bd - bar{Bd} mixing, taking into account the measured ratio Delta Md / Delta Ms, the recently improved lattice value of the non-perturbative parameter BK and an additional effective suppression factor kappa_epsilon ~= 0.92 in epsilon_K neglected sofar in most analyses, may be insufficient to describe the measured value of epsilon_K within the Standard Model (SM), thus hinting at new CP violating contributions to the K - bar{K} and/or Bd - bar{Bd} systems. Furthermore, assuming that Delta Md / Delta Ms is SM-like, the signs and the magnitudes of ne…
Complex flavour couplings (off-diagonal mass terms) in the squark sector of supersymmetric theories may drastically alter both the rate and the CP-violating asymmetry of certain B-meson decays. We consider the effects of couplings that induce b -> s transitions and lead to final state with strangeness one. We investigate the bounds that must be satisfied by the new terms and explore the possible implications on direct and mixing induced asymmetries in the charged and neutral B -> J/Psi K and B -> phi K decays.
In this article we propose standard model strictly forbidden decay modes, quarkonia (QQ(1^{--}) = J/psi, Upsilon) decays into two photons, as a possible signature of the space-time non-commutativity. An experimental discovery of J/psi -> gamma gamma and/or Upsilon -> gamma gamma processes would certainly indicate a violation of the Landau-Pomeranchuk-Yang theorem and a definitive appearance of new physics.
We study D0-D0 mixing in the presence of a fourth generation of quarks. In particular, we calculate the size of the allowed CP violation which is found at the observable level well beyond anything possible with CKM dynamics. We calculate the semileptonic asymmetry a_SL and the mixing induced CP asymmetry eta_fS_f which are correlated with each other. We also investigate the correlation of eta_fS_f with a number of prominent observables in other mesonic systems like epsilon'/epsilon, Br(K_L -> pi0 nu nu), Br(K+ -> pi+ nu nu), Br(B_s ->mu+ mu-), Br(B_d -> mu+ mu-) and finally S_psi phi in the B_…
