The D0 collaboration has recently announced evidence for a dimuon CP asymmetry in B_{d,s} decays of order one percent. If confirmed, this asymmetry requires new physics. We argue that for minimally flavor violating (MFV) new physics, and at low tan beta=v_u/v_d, there are only two four-quark operators (Q_{2,3}) that can provide the required CP violating effect. The scale of such new physics must lie below 260 GeV sqrt{tan beta}. The effect is universal in the B_s and B_d systems, leading to S_{psi K}~sin(2beta)-0.15 and S_{psi phi}~0.25. The effects on epsilon_K and on electric dipole moments are negligible. The most plausible mechanism is tree-level scalar exchange. MFV supersymmetry with low tan beta will be excluded. Finally, we explain how a pattern of deviations from the Standard Model predictions for S_{psi phi}, S_{psi K} and epsilon_K can be used to test MFV and, if MFV holds, to probe its structure in detail.
We point out that, contrary to general belief, generic supersymmetric models are not technically unnatural in the limit of very large values of the parameter tan(beta) when radiative corrections are properly included. Rather, an upper limit on tan(beta) only arises from the requirement that Yukawa couplings remain perturbative up to some high scale. We quantify the relation between this scale and the maximum value of tan(beta). Whereas tan(beta) is limited to lie below 50-70 in the mSUGRA model, models with a much lower scale of new physics (beyond supersymmetry) may have tan(beta) < 150-200.
If tan beta is large, supersymmetric QCD corrections can become large, putting naive perturbation theory into doubt. I show how these tan-beta-enhanced corrections can be controlled to all orders in alpha_s tanbeta. The result is shown for the decays H^+ -> t b-bar and b -> s gamma.
By considering the constraints from nucleon decay we obtain upper limits on tan beta in generalized supersymmetric SU(5) grand unified theories with gauge-mediated supersymmetry breaking. We find that the predicted values of tan beta in these models are mostly inconsistent with the constraints from nucleon decay.

Renormalization schemes for tan(beta) are discussed in view of their gauge dependence. It is shown that several common renormalization schemes lead to a gauge-dependent definition of tan(beta), whereas two classes of gauge-independent schemes show even worse disadvantages. We conclude that the DRbar-scheme is the best compromise.
We report on a two-loop supersymmetric contribution to the magnetic moment (g-2)_mu of the muon which is enhanced by two powers of tan(beta). This contribution arises from a shift in the relation between the muon mass and Yukawa coupling and can increase the supersymmetric contribution to (g-2)_mu sizably. As a result, if the currently observed 3 sigma deviation between the experimental and SM theory value of (g-2)_mu is analyzed within the Minimal Supersymmetric Standard Model (MSSM), the derived constraints on the parameter space are modified significantly: If (g-2)_mu is used to determine t…
We investigate ττfusion to light h and heavy H and A Higgs bosons in the Minimal Supersymmetric Standard Model (MSSM) at a photon collider as a promising channel for measuring large values of tan(beta). For standard design parameters of a photon collider an error Δtan(beta) \sim 1, uniformly for tan(beta) \gsim 10, may be expected, improving on complementary measurements at the LHC and e+e- linear colliders.
Renormalization of two-loop divergent corrections to the vacuum expectation values (v_1, v_2) of the two Higgs doublets in the minimal supersymmetric standard model, and their ratio tan beta=v_2/v_1, is discussed for general R_xi gauge fixings. When the renormalized (v_1, v_2) are defined to give the minimum of the loop-corrected effective potential, it is shown that, beyond the one-loop level, the dimensionful parameters in the R_xi gauge fixing term generate gauge dependence of the renormalized tan beta. Additional shifts of the Higgs fields are necessary to realize the gauge-independent ren…
I review briefly the notion of minimal flavor violation and its application to supersymmetry, with a special emphasis on a class of operators, so-called Higgs penguins, which can generate new and interesting flavor signals at large tan(beta).
We analyze the impact of Higgs-mediated amplitudes on the rare decays KL -> pi0 nu nu-bar and K+ -> pi+ nu nu-bar in the MSSM with large tan(beta) and general flavour mixing. We point out that, going beyond the minimal flavour violation hypothesis, Z-penguin amplitudes generated by charged-Higgs exchange can induce sizable modifications of K -> pi nu nu-bar rates. Interestingly, these effects scale as tan^4(beta) at the amplitude level. For large values of tan(beta), this mechanism allows deviations from the SM expectations even for tiny (CKM-type) off-diagonal mixing terms in the right-handed…
The ratio of the vacuum expectation value of the two Higgs doublets, tan(beta), is an important parameter of the general 2-Higgs-Doublet Model (2HDM) and the Minimal Supersymmetric extension of the Standard Model (MSSM). The expected uncertainty on the determination of tan(beta) at a Linear Collider (LC) of at least 500 GeV center-of-mass energy and high luminosity is reviewed based on studies of neutral and charged Higgs boson production.
The ratio of neutral Higgs field vacuum expectation values, tan beta, is one of the most important parameters to determine in type-II Two-Higgs Doublet Models (2HDM), specifically the Minimal Supersymmetric Standard Model (MSSM). Assuming the energies and integrated luminosity of a future high energy e^+e^- linear collider of sqrt{s}=500, 800, 1000, and 1500 GeV and L=1 ab^{-1} we show that associated t H^+/- production in gamma gamma collisions can be used to make an accurate determination of tan beta for low and high tan beta by precision measurements of the gamma gamma -> H^+/- t + X cross …
The achievable precision of the cross section times branching ratio measurement from the event rates is estimated for the MSSM H/A -> tau tau decay in the associated production process gg -> b bbar H/A at large tan beta in CMS. This work demonstrates that the above production and decay process exhibit a large sensitivity to tan beta and thus add as a significant observable to a global fit of the SUSY parameters. To illustrate this potential an example is given concerning the achievable tan beta determination accuracy that could be reached from the event rates and for a given set of SUSY parame…
The Bs-Bsbar mixing parameter Delta Ms is studied in the MSSM with large tan beta. The recent Tevatron measurement of Delta Ms is used to constrain the MSSM parameter space. From this analysis the often neglected contribution to Delta Ms from the operator Q^SLL is found to be significant.
Exchange of unparticle stuff of dimension $d_\U$ with FCNC interaction can induce $M^{12,u}$ and $Γ^{12,u}$ causing meson and anti-meson mixing with the relation $Γ^{12,u}/M^{12,u} = 2 \tan(πd_\U)$. We show that this type of unparticle contribution can provide the much needed large $Γ^{12}_s$ to explain the recently observed anomalously large dimuon asymmetry in $B_s -\bar B_s$ system reported by D0 collaboration. The same interaction can also accommodate large mixing induced CP violation in $B_s \to J/ψϕ$ indicated by CDF and D0 data. Experimental data can provide constraints on the unparticl…
The experimental sensitivity of the reaction e+e- -> bb -> bbA has been studied with a full-statistics background simulation for sqrt(s) = 500 GeV and L = 500 fb-1. The simulation is based on a fast and realistic simulation of a TESLA detector. For the first time this reaction has been analysed for a future linear collider and we show that a signal could be observed. A significant signal over background is achieved by the application of an Iterative Discriminant Analysis (IDA). For a signal production cross section of only 2 fb, which is expected for a Higgs boson mass of 100 GeV and tan(beta)…
We study the predictions for M_top, tan(beta) and V_cb in a popular texture ansatze for the fermion mass matrices. We do this both for the Minimal Supersymmetric Standard Model (MSSM) and for the simplest model (MSSM-BRpV) where a bilinear R-Parity violating term is added to the superpotential. We find that taking the experimental values for M_top and V_cb at 99 % C.L. and the GUT relations h_b=h_tau and (V_cb)^2=h_c/h_t within 5 %, the large tan(beta) solution, characteristic in the MSSM with bottom--tau unification, becomes disallowed. In contrast the corresponding allowed region for the MSS…
We consider tan(beta)-enhanced quantum effects in the minimal supersymmetric standard model (MSSM) including those from the Higgs sector. To this end, we match the MSSM to an effective two-Higgs doublet model (2HDM), assuming that all SUSY particles are heavy, and calculate the coefficients of the operators that vanish or are suppressed in the MSSM at tree-level. Our result clarifies the dependence of the large-tan(beta) resummation on the renormalization convention for tan(beta), and provides analytic expressions for the Yukawa and trilinear Higgs interactions. The numerical effect is analyze…
Singlet Higgs bosons present in extensions of the MSSM can have sizable Yukawa couplings to the b quark and the tau lepton for large values of tan(beta) at the 1-loop level. We present an effective Lagrangian which incorporates these tan(beta)-enhanced Yukawa couplings and which enables us to study their effect on singlet Higgs-boson phenomenology within the context of both the mnSSM and the NMSSM. In particular, we find that the loop-induced coupling can be a significant effect for the singlet pseudoscalar, and may dominate its decay modes. Further implications of the tan(beta)-enhanced Yukaw…
We discuss the phenomenological impact of a particularly interesting corner of the MSSM: the large tan(beta) regime. The capabilities of leptonic and hadronic Flavor Violating processes in shedding light on physics beyond the Standard Model are reviewed. Moreover, we show that tests of Lepton Universality in charged current processes can represent an interesting handle to obtain relevant information on New Physics scenarios.
The ratio of neutral Higgs field vacuum expectation values, tan(beta), is one of the most important parameters to determine in either the Minimal Supersymmetric Standard Model (MSSM) or a general type-II Two-Higgs Doublet Model (2HDM). Assuming an energy and integrated luminosity of sqrts=500 GeV and L=2000 fb-1 at a future linear collider (LC), we show that a very accurate determination of tan(beta) will be possible for low and high tan(beta) values by measuring the production rates of Higgs bosons and reconstructing Higgs boson decays. In particular, based on a TESLA simulation, and assuming…
Recently it has been understood that flavor-changing processes mediated by Higgs bosons could be a new and powerful tool for discovering supersymmetry. In this paper we show that they may also provide an important method for constraining the parameters of the minimal supersymmetric standard model (MSSM). Specifically, we show that observation of B_s -> mu mu at the Tevatron implies a significant, model-independent lower bound on tan(beta) in the MSSM. This is very important because tan(beta) enters crucially in predictions and interpretations of the MSSM, though it is difficult to measure. Wit…
We show that radiative corrections to the Higgs potential in supersymmetric theories with large tan beta generically lead to large differences in the light Higgs boson decay branching fractions compared to those of the standard model Higgs boson. In contrast, the light Higgs boson production rates are largely unaffected. We identify W h associated production followed by Higgs boson decays to photons or to leptons via W W* as potential experimental probes of these theories.
We present an example of a scenario of particle production and decay in supersymmetry models in which the supersymmetry breaking is transmitted to the observable world via gravitational interactions. The case is chosen so that there is a large production of tau leptons in the final state. It is characteristic of large tan beta in that decays into muons and electrons may be suppressed. It is shown that hadronic tau decays can be used to reconstruct final states.
In the minimal supersymmetric extension of the Standard Model (MSSM), fermion masses and Yukawa couplings receive radiative corrections at one loop from diagrams involving the supersymmetric particles. The corrections to the relation between down-type fermion masses and Yukawa couplings are enhanced by tan beta, which makes them potentially very significant at large tan beta. These corrections affect a wide range of processes in the MSSM, including neutral and charged Higgs phenomenology, rare B meson decays, and renormalization of the CKM matrix. We give a pedagogical review of the sources an…
We investigate the possibilities for constraining tan beta within the MSSM by combining the theoretical result for the upper bound on the lightest Higgs-boson mass as a function of tan beta with the informations from the direct experimental search for this particle. We discuss the commonly used ``benchmark'' scenario, in which the parameter values m_top = 175 GeV and M_susy = 1 TeV are chosen, and analyze in detail the effects of varying the other SUSY parameters. We furthermore study the impact of the new diagrammatic two-loop result for mh, which leads to an increase of the upper bound on mh…
A systematic analysis of Higgs-mediated contributions to the Bd and Bs mass differences is presented in the MSSM with large values of tan(beta). In particular, supersymmetric corrections to Higgs self-interactions are seen to modify the correlation between Delta Mq and BR(Bq --> mu+ mu-) for light Higgses. The present experimental upper bound on BR(Bs --> mu+ mu-) is nevertheless still sufficient to exclude noticeable Higgs-mediated effects on the mass differences in most of the parameter space.
After a short introduction to the SUSY flavour problem, we focus the attention on the MSSM with MFV and large $\tanβ$. The theoretical motivations and the general features of this scenario are briefly reviewed. The possible signatures in low-energy flavour-violating observables are discussed, with particular attention to the role played by $\BR(P\to\ellν)$, $\BR(B_{s,d}\to \ell^+\ell^-)$ and $\BR(μ\to e γ)$
We study the direct detection rate for SUSY cold dark matter (CDM) predicted by the minimal supersymmetric standard model with universal boundary conditions and large values for tan(beta). The relic abundance of the lightest supersymmetric particle (LSP), assumed to be approximately a bino, is obtained by including its coannihilations with the next-to-lightest supersymmetric particle (NLSP), which is the lightest s-tau. The cosmological constraint on this quantity severely limits the allowed SUSY parameter space, especially in the case the CP-even Higgs has mass of around 114 GeV. We find that…
For large values of tan(beta) interesting effects arise in the MSSM due to the enhancement of down-quark self-energies. These effects are well-studied within the decoupling limit, i.e. in the limit of supersymmetric masses far above the electroweak scale. In this article I discuss those issues which emerge from a treatment of these effects that goes beyond the decoupling limit.
Extensions of the MSSM generically feature gauge singlet Higgs bosons. These singlet Higgs bosons have tan(beta)-enhanced Yukawa couplings to down-type quarks and leptons at the one-loop level. We present an effective Lagrangian incorporating these Yukawa couplings and use it to study their effect on singlet Higgs boson phenomenology within both the mnSSM and NMSSM. It is found that the loop-induced couplings represent an appreciable effect for the singlet pseudoscalar in particular, and may dominate its decay modes in some regions of parameter space.
We study the q^2 dependence of the exclusive decay mode B \to D tau \bar{nu} in type II two Higgs doublet models and show that this mode may be used to put stringent bounds on tan(beta)/m_H. There are currently rather large theoretical uncertainties in the q^2 distribution, but these may be significantly reduced by future measurements of the analogous distribution for B \to D(e,mu)\bar{nu}. We estimate that this reduction in the theoretical uncertainties would eventually (i.e., with sufficient data) allow one to push the upper bound on tan(beta)/m_H down to about 0.06 GeV^{-1}. This would repr…
We give an extensive description of the renormalisation of the Higgs sector of the minimal supersymmetric model in SloopS. SloopS is an automatised code for the computation of one-loop processes in the MSSM. In this paper, the first in a series, we study in detail the non gauge invariance of some definitions of tan(beta). We rely on a general non-linear gauge fixing constraint to make the gauge parameter dependence of different schemes for tan(beta) at one-loop explicit. In so doing, we update, within these general gauges, an important Ward-Slavnov-Taylor identity on the mixing between the pse…
Realistic predictions are made for lepton flavour violating and flavour changing neutral current decays in the large tan beta regime of a SUSY-seesaw model. Lepton flavour violating neutral Higgs decays are discussed within this framework along with the highly constraining charged lepton decays l_i --> l_j + gamma. In the b-s system the important constraint from b --> s + gamma is studied in conjunction with the rare FCNC Bs --> mu mu (tau mu) decays and the recently measured Delta Ms.
In the most general two-Higgs-doublet model (2HDM), there is no distinction between the two complex hypercharge-one SU(2) doublet scalar fields, Phi_a (a=1,2). Thus, any two orthonormal linear combinations of these two fields can serve as a basis for the Lagrangian. All physical observables of the model must therefore be basis-independent. For example, tan(beta)=<Phi_2^0>/<Phi_1^0> is basis-dependent and thus cannot be a physical parameter of the model. In this paper, we provide a basis-independent treatment of the Higgs sector with particular attention to the neutral Higgs boson mass-eigensta…
We consider the chargino contribution to the CP violation in B \to ϕK_S decay in the minimal supersymmetric standard model at large \tanβ. It is shown that the Wilson coefficient C_{8g} of the chromomagnetic penguin operator can be significantly enhanced by the chargino-mediated diagrams while satisfying other direct/indirect experimental constraints. The enhanced C_{8g} allows large deviation in the CP asymmetry from the standard model prediction.
We present an experimental and theoretical analysis of the ratio of branching ratios R=BR(H^+ -> tau^+ nu)/BR(H^+ -> t b-bar) of charged Higgs boson decays as a discriminant quantity between supersymmetric and non-supersymmetric models.
We present results of our study of tan(beta)-enhanced loop corrections in the Minimal Supersymmetric Standard Model (MSSM) with Minimal Flavour Violation (MFV). We demonstrate that these corrections induce flavour changing neutral current (FCNC) gluino couplings which have a large impact on the Wilson coefficient C_8 of the chromomagnetic operator. To illustrate the phenomenological consequences of this gluino-squark contribution to C_8, we briefly discuss its effect on the mixing-induced CP asymmetry in the decay B_d -> phi K_S.
We investigate the MSSM with very large tan(beta) > 50, where the fermion masses are strongly affected by loop-induced couplings to the "wrong" Higgs, imposing perturbative Yukawa couplings and constraints from flavour physics. Performing a low-energy scan of the MSSM with flavour-blind soft terms, we find that the branching ratio of B->tau nu and the anomalous magnetic moment of the muon are the strongest constraints at very large tan(beta) and identify the viable regions in parameter space. Furthermore we determine the scale at which the perturbativity of the Yukawa sector breaks down, depen…
We compute the O(alpha_s) SUSY-QCD corrections to the W and charged Higgs mediated inclusive semi-tauonic B-decay, B->tau antineutrino_tau X. Combining the SUSY contribution with the SM result obtained from the heavy quark effective field theory, plus ordinary QCD corrections, we find that the allowed region in the (tan(beta),M_H^\pm)-plane could be significantly modified by the short-distance supersymmetric effects. Since the sensitivity to the SUSY parameters other than mu (the higgsino mixing mass) is rather low, the following effective bound emerges for mu<0 at the 2 sigma level: tan(beta)…
We present an analysis of non-leptonic B decays in the minimally flavour-violating MSSM with large tan(beta). We relate the Wilson coefficients of the relevant hadronic scalar operators to leptonic observables, showing that the present limits on the Bs->mu+ mu- and B+->tau nu_tau branching fractions exclude any visible effect in hadronic decays. We study the transverse helicity amplitudes of B->VV decays, which exhibit an enhanced sensitivity to the scalar operators, showing that even though an order one modification relative to the SM is not excluded in some of these amplitudes, they are too …
In the context of the Grand Unified MSSM, we investigate the fermion mass matrices at GUT scale. We note that from the experimental mass pattern the determinants of the Yukawa matrices at this scale can be unified with good precision. Taking the unification o determinants as an hypothesis, it gives two model independent predictions that in the MSSM turns out to determine an appropriate value for the product m_d m_s and tan(beta)~7-10 in the favored range. We then review a predictive model of SU(3) flavour in the context of supersymmetric SO(10) that nicely implements this mechanism, while expl…
We study constraints on type-II two Higgs doublet models at large tan{beta} from LEP/SLD Z-pole data and from lepton universality violation in W decay. We perform a global fit and find that, in the context of Z decay, the LEP/SLD experimental values for lepton universality violation, R_b, and A_b all somewhat disfavor the model. Contributions from the neutral Higgs sector can be used to constrain the scalar-pseudoscalar Higgs mass splittings. Contributions from the charged Higgs sector allow us to constrain the charged Higgs mass. For tan{beta}=100 we obtain the 1 sigma classical (Bayesian) bo…
We investigate the effects of the radiatively-generated tan beta-enhanced Higgs-singlet Yukawa couplings on the decay $Υ\to γA_1$ in the NMSSM, where $A_1$ is the lightest CP-odd scalar. This radiative coupling is found to dominate in the case of a highly singlet Higgs pseudoscalar. The branching ratio for the production of such a particle is shown to be within a few orders of magnitude of current experimental constraints across a significant region of parameter space. This represents a potentially observable signal for experiments at present B-factories.
The MSSM with large tan(beta) and heavy squarks is a theoretically well motivated and phenomenologically interesting extension of the SM. This scenario naturally accommodates the (g-2)_μanomaly and the upper bound on the Higgs boson mass. In a wide region of the parameter space, visible non-standard effects are expected in a few low-energy observables, such as BR(B->tau nu), BR(B->l+ l-), BR(B->Xs gamma), and BR(mu->e gamma). We analyse the correlations of these non-standard effects under the additional assumption that the relic density of a Bino-like LSP accommodates the observed dark matter …
Renormalization of two-loop divergent corrections to the vacuum expectation values (v_1, v_2) of the two Higgs doublets in the minimal supersymmetric standard model, and their ratio $\tanβ=v_2/v_1$, is discussed for general R_ξ gauge fixings. When the renormalized (v_1, v_2) are defined to give the minimum of the loop-corrected effective potential, it is shown that, beyond the one-loop level, the dimensionful parameters in the R_ξ gauge fixing term generate gauge dependence of the renormalized $\tanβ$. Additional shifts of the Higgs fields are necessary to realize the gauge-independent renorma…
The top quark mass values from the CDF Collaboration and the precision electroweak data at LEP combined with the bottom mass value allow to establish bounds on the parameter tan beta in the minimal supersymmetric standard model (MSSM) independent of the soft supersymmetry breaking parameters. We find: 0.96 < tan beta < 52.2 at the 95 % C.L., which is mostly the region tan beta >1, where radiative electroweak symmetry breaking is possible. Assuming electroweak symmetry breaking leads to: tan beta=1.2 +- 0.2, if one neglects the high tan beta solution, which is unlikely due to proton lifetime li…
The charged-Higgs contributions to the decay \bar{B} -> X_s gamma are discussed in the minimal supersymmetric standard model at large tan beta. These contributions receive two-loop O(alpha_s tan beta) corrections by squark-gluino subloops, which are nondecoupling in the limit of heavy superpartners and possibly large. Their leading parts are already known and were evaluated by using an effective two-Higgs-doublet Lagrangian. Subleading corrections coming from higher-dimension operators in the effective Lagrangian were ignored, although this is not, a priori, justified when m_{H^\pm} is not muc…
We complete the effective potential calculation of the two-loop, top/bottom Yukawa corrections to the Higgs boson masses in the Minimal Supersymmetric Standard Model, by computing the O(at^2 + at*ab + ab^2) contributions for arbitrary values of the bottom Yukawa coupling. We also compute the corrections to the minimization conditions of the effective potential at the same perturbative order. Our results extend the existing O(at^2) calculation, and are relevant in regions of the parameter space corresponding to tan(beta) >> 1. We extend to the Yukawa corrections a convenient renormalization sch…
Within the framework of supersymmetric grand unification, estimates of the $b$ quark mass based on the asymptotic relation $m_b \simeq m_τ$ single out the region with $\tanβ$ close to unity, particularly if $m_t(m_t) \stackrel{_<}{_\sim} 170\ GeV$. We explore the radiative breaking of the electroweak symmetry and the associated sparticle and higgs spectroscopy in models with $1 < \tanβ\stackrel{_<}{_\sim} 1.6$. The lightest scalar higgs is expected to have a mass below $100\ GeV$, while the remaining four higgs masses exceed $300\ GeV$. The lower bounds on some of the sparticle masses are with…
We point out that in the minimal supersymmetric standard model terms from the mixing of Higgs and Goldstone bosons which are connected to the renormalization of tan(beta) via Slavnov-Taylor identities give rise to corrections that do not vanish in the limit where the supersymmetric particles are much heavier than the Higgs bosons. These additional contributions have important phenomenological implications as they can lead to potentially large supersymmetric effects in DeltaM_d and to a significant increase of DeltaM_s relative to the standard model prediction for a light pseudoscalar Higgs A0.…
The decay $b\to sν\barν$ is discussed in the minimal supersymmetric standard model with general flavor mixing for squarks, at large $\tanβ$. In this case, in addition to the chargino loop contributions which were analyzed in previously studies, $\tanβ$-enhanced contributions from the gluino and charged Higgs boson loops might become sizable compared with the standard model contribution, at least in principle. However, it is demonstrated that the experimental bounds on the new physics contributions to the radiative decay $b\to sγ$ should strongly constrain these contributions to $b\to sν\barν$,…
The Electroweak sector in E6 supersymmetric models is subject to a degree of fine tuning in the percent to permil level. This can be attributed to the experimental limits on both the mass of the Z' boson associated with the extra U(1)' symmetry in the model, as well as the masses of naturalness-related sparticles (which is a general source of tuning in supersymmetric models). The degree of tuning can be smaller than that in the minimal supersymmetric standard model with universal fundamental parameters (the constrained MSSM). We show this by quantifying the fine tuning in regions of the parame…
Fermion masses and mixing angles are studied in an SUSY $SO(10)\times Δ(48)\times U(1)$ model with small $\tanβ$. Thirteen parameters involving masses and mixing angles in the quark and charged lepton sector are successfully predicted by a single Yukawa coupling and three ratios of VEVs caused by necessary symmetry breaking. Ten relations among the low energy parameters have been found with four of them free from renormalization modifications. They could be tested directly by low energy experiments.
We will explore the consequences on the electroweak breaking condition, the mass of supersymmetric partners and the scale at which supersymmetry is broken, for arbitrary values of the supersymmetric parameters tan(beta) and the stop mixing X_t, which follow from the Higgs discovery with a mass m_H\simeq 126 GeV at the LHC. Within the present uncertainty on the top quark mass we deduce that radiative breaking requires tan(beta) \gtrsim 7 for maximal mixing X_t\simeq \sqrt{6}, and tan(beta) \gtrsim 20 for small mixing X_t\lesssim 1. The scale at which supersymmetry is broken \mathcal M can be of…
We match the Higgs sector of the most general flavour breaking and CP violating minimal supersymmetric standard model (MSSM) onto a generic two-Higgs-doublet model, paying special attention to the definition of tan beta in the effective theory. In particular no tan beta-enhanced loop corrections appear in the relation to tan beta defined in the DRbar scheme in the MSSM. The corrections to the Higgs-mediated flavour-changing amplitudes which result from this matching are especially relevant for the B_d and B_s mass differences dM_s,d for minimal flavour violation, where the superficially leadin…
We compute the branching fractions of B_{s,d} -> l+ l- in the type-II two-Higgs-doublet model with large tan(beta). We find that the parameters of the neutral Higgs sector of the two-Higgs-doublet model cancel in the result, so that the branching fractions depend only on the charged Higgs mass and tan(beta). For large values of tan(beta) and a charged Higgs mass above the bound from b -> s gamma, we find that the branching fractions can be enhanced by up to an order of magnitude or suppressed by up to a factor of two compared to the Standard Model result. We point out that previous calculation…
The charged-Higgs boson contributions to the Wilson coefficients C_7 and C_8, relevant for the decay B -> X_s gamma, are discussed in supersymmetric models at large tan beta. These contributions receive two-loop O(alpha_s tan beta) corrections by squark-gluino subloops, which are possibly large and nondecoupling in the limit of heavy superpartners. In previous studies, the relevant two-loop Feynman integrals were approximated by using an effective two-Higgs-doublet lagrangian. However, this approximation is theoretically justified only when the typical supersymmetric scale M_SUSY is sufficient…
In the two Higgs doublet model, $\tanβ$ is an important parameter, which is defined as the ratio of the vacuum expectation values of the doublets. We study how accurately $\tanβ$ can be determined at linear colliders via the precision measurement of the decay branching fraction of the standard model (SM) like Higgs boson. Since the effective coupling constants of the Higgs boson with the weak gauge bosons are expected to be measured accurately, the branching ratios can be precisely determined. Consequently, $\tanβ$ can be determined with a certain amount of accuracy. Comparing the method to th…
We analyse scalar flavour-changing neutral currents of down-type quarks in models with two Higgs doublets, coupled separately to up- and down-type quarks, in the limit where the ratio of the two expectation values ($\tan β= v_u/v_d$) is large. We clarify the origin of this phenomenon, both in $ΔF=1$ and $ΔF=2$ processes, analysing differences and analogies between supersymmetric and non-supersymmetric models. We confirm previous findings of a sizeable enhancement at large $\tanβ$ of specific $ΔF=1$ and $ΔF=2$ amplitudes in the MSSM and, in these cases, we discuss how large-$\tanβ$ corrections …
