The transport behavior and superconducting transition temperature Tc of NdFe1-yRuyAsO0.89F0.11 have been studied for various y values. Because Ru impurities are isoelectronic to host Fe atoms, we basically expect that the number of electrons does not change with y, at least in the region of small y values. The results indicate that the rate of Tc suppression by Ru atoms is too small to be explained by the pair breaking effect of nonmagnetic impurities expected for the S+- symmetry, confirming our previous results for Co doping.
We examine the effect of boron doping in superconducting forms of amorphous carbon. By judiciously optimizing boron substitutional sites in simulated amorphous carbon we predict a superconducting transition temperature near 37 K at 14 % boron concentration. Our findings have direct implications for understanding the recently discovered high T_$c$ superconductivity in Q-carbon.
Using a doping-determined multiband model spectrum of a "typical'' cuprate the effective mass of the paired carriers is calculated on the whole doping scale. Large $m_{ab}$ values quench rapidly with leaving the very underdoped region. Further slower diminishing of $m_{ab}$ reproduces the trend towards restoring the Fermi-liquid behaviour in cuprates with progressive doping. The interband superconducting condensate density ($n_s$) shows similar behaviour to the transition temperature and superconducting gaps. The $n_s(0)/m_{ab}$ ratio has an expressed maximum close to optimal doping as also th…
The paper compares the K-dependence of the superconducting gap in different doping ranges. The fine behavior of the leading edge gap indicates that the pairing susceptibility is peaked at special regions on the Fermi surface. These hot regions are found to be centered away from nominal "hot spots". This behavior is attributed to a feedback effect on the pairing boson. Identification is made through comparison with neutron diffraction results.
In the present work, we report the new findings on the doping level dependence of the phase coherence between superconducting Bi$_2$Sr$_2$CaCu$_2$O$_{8+δ}$ (Bi-2212) grains. The experimental results from the strongly underdoped and overdoped regimes deviated from the expectation based on the doping level dependence of the superfluid density at $T$ = 0 K. These findings appear to be governed by interplay between competing orders inside the superconducting dome of cuprate superconductors. Two quantum critical points are likely to exist at the underdoped and overdoped regimes beneath the supercon…
The mechanism of superconductivity in pnictides is discussed through direct doping in superconducting FeAs and also in charge reservoir REO layers. The un-doped SmFeAsO is charge neutral SDW (Spin Density Wave) compound with magnetic ordering below 150 K. The Superconducting FeAs layers are doped with Co and Ni at Fe site, whereas REO layers are doped with F at O site. The electron doping in SmFeAsO through Co results in superconductivity with transition temperature (Tc) maximum up to 15 K, whereas F doping results in Tc upto 47 K in SmFeAsO. All these REFe/Co/NiAsO/F compounds are iso-structu…
The mechanism of formation of dome-like phase diagrams and the features of magnetic field penetration in iron pnictides with hetero- and isovalent doping are considered within the framework of the previously proposed model, which assumes the local character of doping and the cluster structure of resulted superconducting phase. It is shown that the proposed model, despite its simplicity and neglect of the features of the electronic structure, makes it possible not only to accurately calculate the positions of superconducting domes on the phase diagrams of specific HTSC compounds, but also to ex…
Iron is an important sheath material for fabrication of MgB2 wires. However, the effect of Fe doping on the superconducting properties of MgB2 remains controversial. In this work, we present results of nano-scale Fe particle doping in to MgB2. The Fe doping experiments were performed using both bulk and thin film form. It was found that Fe doping did not affect the lattice parameters of MgB2, as evidenced by the lack of change in the XRD peak positions for MgB2. Because of the high reactivity of nano-scale Fe particles, Fe doping is largely in the form of FeB at low doping level while Fe2B was…
We report the preparation of Mg1-xLixB2 compounds. Nearly single phased samples were obtained for x<0.3. The in-plane lattice parameter a decreases with Li doping, while the lattice parameter c does not show obvious change. The superconducting transition temperature of Mg1-xLixB2 decreases with Li doping and loss of superconductivity occurs for x=0.5 sample. The results of our work are consistent with the prediction of the hole superconductivity mechanism.
We report the results of our investigation of SrPt3P, a recently discovered strong-coupling superconductor with Tc = 8.4 K, by application of high physical pressure and by chemical doping. We study hole-doped SrPt3P, which was theoretically predicted to have a higher Tc, resistively, magnetically, and calorimetrically. Here we present the results of these studies and discuss their implications.
Measurements of thermal conductivity ($κ$) versus temperature and doping for several cuprate superconductors are discussed. Suppressed values of the normal-state $κ$ and the slope change in $κ$ at $T_c$, observed near 1/8 doping in both YBa$_2$Cu$_3$O$_{6+x}$ and Hg cuprates, are attributed to local lattice distortions and the suppression of the superconducting condensate, respectively. Both phenomena are proposed to arise from small domains of localized planar holes, presumably a manifestation of phase separation. It is suggested that the phase behavior of $κ$ reflects stripe dynamics and the…
We study the concentration dependence of the superconducting critical temperature Tc in a boron-doped diamond. We evaluate the density of states at Fermi level within the dynamical cluster approximation obtaining higher values than from the coherent potential approximation. We discuss the Tc as a function of density of states within the BCS, the McMillan, and the Belitz theory. The simplified Belitz theory gives the best agreement with experimental data. Since the density of states follows a simple power-law for accessible doping concetrations, the present theory offers an analytical formula f…
In doped SrTiO$_{3}$ superconductivity persists down to an exceptionally low concentration of mobile electrons. This restricts the relevant energy window and possible pairing scenarios. We present a study of quantum oscillations and superconducting transition temperature, $T_{c}$ as the carrier density is tuned from $10^{17}$ to $10^{20}$ $cm^{-3}$ and identify two critical doping levels corresponding to the filling thresholds of the upper bands. At the first critical doping, which separates the single-band and the two-band superconducting regimes in oxygen-deficient samples, the steady increa…
The doping dependence of the superconducting condensate density, n_{s}^{o}, has been studied by muon-spin-rotation for Y_{0.8}Ca_{0.2}Ba_{2}(Cu_{1-z}Zn_{z})_{3}O_{7-δ} and Tl_{0.5-y}Pb_{0.5+y}Sr_{2}Ca_{1-x}Y_{x}Cu_{2}O_{7}. We find that n_{s}^{o} exhibits a pronounced peak at a unique doping state in the slightly overdoped regime. Its position coincides with the critical doping state where the normal state pseudogap first appears depleting the electronic density of states. A surprising correlation between n_{s}^{o} and the condensation energy U_{o} is observed which suggests unconventional beh…
The superconductivity precursor phenomena in high temperature cuprate superconductors was studied by direct measurements of superconducting condensate with the use of the $c$-axis optical conductivity of YBa$_{2}$(Cu$_{1-x}$Zn$_{x}$)$_{3}$O$_{y}$ for several doping levels ($p$) as well as for several Zn-concentrations. Both of the real and imaginary part of the optical conductivity clearly showed that the superconducting carriers persist up to the high temperatures $T$$_{p}$ that is higher than the critical temperature $T$$_{c}$ but lower than the pseudogap temperature $T$$^{\ast}$. $T$$_{p}$ …
In order to explore the possibility of tuning superconducting and ferromagnetic transitions by Cu doping (for Ru) in GdSr2RuCu2O8, we have carried out synthesis and characterization of GdSr2Ru{1-x}Cu{2+x)O8 (x = 0, 0.05, 0.1, 0.2) and studied their physical properties. Coexistence of superconductivity and ferromagnetism is observed in all the Cu doped samples studied here. The zero field susceptibility data suggests formation of a spontaneous vortex phase. Cu doping decreases the ferromagnetic Curie temperature, whereas the superconducting transition temperature increases until an optimal conc…
The van-der-Waals gap of iron chalcogenide superconductors can be intercalated with a variety of inorganic and organic compounds that modify the electron doping level of the iron layers. In Lix(C3N2H10)0.37FeSe, a dome in the superconducting transition temperature Tc has been reported to occur in the doping range of x=0.06 to x=0.68. We use a combination of density functional theory and spin fluctuation theory to capture the evolution of superconducting transition temperatures theoretically. We clearly demonstrate how the changing electronic structure supports an increasing superconducting Tc.…
We studied the electric and magnetic behavior near the phase boundary between antiferromagnetic (AF) and superconducting (SC) phases for a prototype of high-T_c pnictides LaFeAsO_{1-x}F_{x} by using nuclear magnetic resonance, and found that paramagnetic-metal (PM) domains segregate from AF domains. PM domains grow in size with increasing electron doping level and are accompanied by the onset of superconductivity, and thus application of pressure or increasing the doping level causes superconductivity. The existence of PM domains cannot be explained by the existing paradigm that focuses only o…
The doping and temperature dependence of the thermodynamic properties in cuprate superconductors is studied based on the kinetic energy driven superconducting mechanism. By considering the interplay between the superconducting gap and normal-state pseudogap, the some main features of the doping and temperature dependence of the specific-heat, the condensation energy, and the upper critical field are well reproduced. In particular, it is shown that in analogy to the domelike shape of the doping dependence of the superconducting transition temperature, the maximal upper critical field occurs aro…
We report the results from resistivity and magnetic measurements on polycrystalline Ce oxypnictide (CeFeAsO1-xFx) samples where x spans from 0.13 to 0.25. We find that the orbital limiting field is as high as 150 T and it systematically decreases with increasing doping. The Maki parameter is greater than one across the phase diagram and the large Maki parameter suggests that orbital and Pauli limiting effects contribute to the upper critical field. The broadening of the superconducting transition in the resistivity data was interpreted using the thermally activated flux flow (TAFF) model where…
Comparing ARPES measurements on Bi2212 with penetration depth data, we show that a description of the nodal excitations of the d-wave superconducting state in terms of non-interacting quasiparticles is inadequate, and we estimate the magnitude and doping dependence of the Landau interaction parameter which renormalizes the linear T contribution to the superfluid density. Furthermore, although consistent with d-wave symmetry, the gap with underdoping cannot be fit by the simple coskx-cosky form, which suggests an increasing importance of long range interactions as the insulator is approached.
Bi2Sr2CaCu2O{8 + δ} crystals with varying hole concentrations (0.12 < p < 0.23) were studied to investigate the effects of doping on the symmetry and magnitude of the superconducting gap. Electronic Raman scattering experiments that sample regions of the Fermi surface near the diagonal (B_{2g}) and principal axes (B_{1g}) of the Brillouin Zone have been utilized. The frequency dependence of the Raman response function at low energies is found to be linear for B_{2g} and cubic for B_{1g} (T< T_c). The latter observations have led us to conclude that the doping dependence of the superconducting …
This paper proposes a systematic way to explore the effects of Na on Bi-2212 phase formation. The influence of sodium metal is correlated with the 2212 fraction formed in the sample. The effect on the sintering temperature and the importance of the substitution site is studied. Samples are characterized by X-ray diffraction analysis (XRD). Results clearly show that the 2212 phase content is enhanced and sintering temperatures can be lowered with regard to the undoped samples.
It is known that iron selenide superconductors exhibit unique characteristics distinct from iron pnicitides, especially in the electron-doped region. However, acomprehensive study of continuous carrier doping ang the corresponding crystal structures of FeSe is still lacking, mainly due to the difficulties in controlling the carrier density in bulk materials. Here, we report the successful synthesis of a new family of bulk Lix(C3H10N2)0.37FeSe, which features a continue superconducting dome harboring Lifshitz transition within the wide range of 0.06~0.68. We demonstrate that with electron-doped…
We have investigated the fluorine-doping dependence of lattice constants, transports and specific heat for polycrystalline LaFePO1-xFx. F doping slightly and monotonically decreases the in-plane lattice parameter. In the normal state, electrical resistivity at low temperature is proportional to the square of temperature and the electronic specific heat coefficient has large value, indicating the existence of moderate electron-electron correlation in this system. Hall coefficient has large magnitude, and shows large temperature dependence, indicating the low carrier density and multiple carrier…
We investigate the effect of Ni doping on the Fe-site in single crystals of the magnetic superconductor RbEuFe$_4$As$_4$ for doping concentrations of up to 4%. A clear suppression in the superconducting transition temperature is observed in specific heat, resistivity and magnetization measurements. Upon Ni-doping, the resistivity curves shift up in a parallel fashion indicating a strong increase of the residual resistivity due to scattering by charged dopand atoms while the shape of the curve and thus the electronic structure appears largely unchanged. The observed step $ΔC/T_c$ at the superco…
The impurity effects on the transition temperature Tc and the isotope effect are examined in multiband superconductors with magnetic and nonmagnetic impurities, where the effect of Coulomb repulsion is considered. It is shown that an internal transition of the superconducting state is induced by impurity doping, and that the transition is accompanied by a jump of the isotope-effect coefficient alpha. In particular, the transition is illustrated in a system with two electron bands. In some special cases, extended Abrikosov and Gor'kov (AG) equations for Tc and the expressions of the isotope-eff…
The effects of simultaneous Sb doping on the superconductivity of 112-type Ca1-xRExFeAs2 (RE = La, Ce, Pr, and Nd) were studied through measurements of the magnetization and electrical resistivity. In Sb-free materials, the superconducting transition temperature Tc of the La-doped sample was 35 K, while those of the Pr- and Nd-doped samples were ~10 K; no superconductivity was observed in the Ce-doped sample. Sb doping increased the Tc of all RE-doped samples: Tc increased to 47, 43, 43, and 43 K for RE = La, Ce, Pr, and Nd, respectively. We also found that the enhanced superconductivity resul…
This work presents the emergence of superconductivity in Re substituted topological Weyl semimetal MoTe$_{2}$. Re substitution for Mo sites lead to a sizable enhancement in the superconducting transition temperature (T$_{c}$). A record high T$_{c}$ at ambient pressure in a 1T$'$-MoTe$_{2}$ (room temperature structure) related sample is observed for the Mo$_{0.7}$Re$_{0.3}$Te$_{2}$ composition (T$_{c}$ = 4.1 K, in comparison MoTe$_{2}$, shows a T$_{c}$ of 0.1 K). The experimental and theoretical studies indicate that Re substitution is doping electrons and facilitates the emergence of supercond…
In the cuprate superconductor $YBa_2Cu_3O_{6+x}$, hole doping in the $CuO_2$ layers is controlled by both oxygen content and the degree of oxygen-ordering. At the composition $\rm YBa_2Cu_3O_{6.35}$, the ordering can occur at room temperature, thereby tuning the hole doping so that the superconducting critical temperature gradually rises from zero to 20 K. Here we exploit this to study the c-axis penetration depth as a function of temperature and doping. The temperature dependence shows the d-wave superconductor surviving to very low doping, with no sign of another ordered phase interfering wi…
We report a doping, magnetic field and low-temperature dependent study of the specific heat of the iron-arsenide Ba(Fe$_{1-x}$Co$_{x}$)$_{2}$As$_{2}$ at under (x=0.045), optimal (x=0.08) and overdoped (x=0.103 and 0.105) regimes. By subtracting the lattice specific heat the temperature and magnetic field dependence of the electronic specific heat has been studied. The temperature and field dependencies of the superconducting part of $C_{p}$ exhibit similar behavior for all doping concentrations. The temperature variation of the electronic specific heat as well as its field dependence cannot be…
We report the structural, superconducting, magnetic and granular properties of Y1-xCaxBa2Cu3O7; x = 0.0, 0.1, 0.2 and 0.3. Rietveld fitted X-ray diffraction data confirms the single phase formation for all the samples. The orthorhombicity of parent compound (x = 0.0) decreases and becomes closer to the tetragonal structure for higher Ca concentration. The superconducting transition temperature (Tc) decreases with increasing Ca content due to both over-doping and ensuing disorder in the superconducting CuO2 planes with Ca doping. DC susceptibility measurements reveal reduction of Meissner fract…
Heat transport in the cuprate superconductors YBa$_2$Cu$_3$O$_{y}$ and La$_{2-x}$Sr$_x$CuO$_4$ was measured at low temperatures as a function of doping. A residual linear term kappa_{0}/T is observed throughout the superconducting region and it decreases steadily as the Mott insulator is approached from the overdoped regime. The low-energy quasiparticle gap extracted from kappa_{0}/T is seen to scale closely with the pseudogap. The ubiquitous presence of nodes and the tracking of the pseudogap shows that the overall gap remains of the pure d-wave form throughout the phase diagram, which exclud…
Scanning tunneling microscopy and spectroscopy have been performed on superconducting La$_{2-x}$Sr$_{x}$CuO$_{4}$ ($x=0.06, 0.12, 0.16$, and 0.21) at 4.2 K. Atomically resolved surface topography has been observed on the $ab$ surface, which exhibits a one-dimensional structure corresponding to the buckling pattern of the orthorhombic phase. The tunneling spectra of all samples exhibit kinks at about $\pm 5$ meV in addition to the energy gap, indicating the existence of two energy scales. While the gap magnitude varies on the length scale of a few nm and steadily increases upon underdoping, the…
2H-NbSe2 is one of the most widely researched transition metal dichalcogenide (TMD) superconductors, which undergoes charge-density wave (CDW) transition at TCDW about 33 K and superconducting transition at Tc of 7.3 K. To explore the relation between its superconductivity and Fermi surface nesting, we combined S substitution with Cu intercalation in 2H-NbSe2 to make CuxNbSe2-ySy. Upon systematic substitution of S and intercalation of Cu ions into 2H-NbSe2, we found that when the Cu and S contents increases, the Tc decreases in CuxNbSe2-ySy. While at higher x and y values, Tc keeps a constant …
Homoepitaxial diamond layers doped with boron in the 10^20-10^21 /cm3 range are shown to be type II superconductors with sharp transitions (~0.2K) at temperatures increasing from 0 to 2.1 K with boron contents. The critical concentration for the onset of superconductivity is about 5-7 10^20 /cm3, close to the metal-insulator transition. The H-T phase diagram has been obtained from transport and a.c. susceptibility measurements down to 300mK. These results bring new quantitative constraints on the theoretical models proposed for superconductivity in diamond.
Electron doping of a 122-type iron pnictide BaFe2As2 by substituting the Ba site with an aliovalent ion (indirect doping), which had been unsuccessful by conventional solid-state synthesis methods, was achieved by a non-equilibrium film growth process. The substitution with La was substantiated by a systematic shrinkage of the c-axis lattice parameter due to the smaller ionic radius of La3+ than that of Ba2+. A negative Hall coefficient indicated that the majority carriers were electrons, as is consistent with this aliovalent ion doping. The La substitution suppressed an antiferromagnetic tran…
A series of high-quality La2-xSrxCuO4 (LSCO) superconductor crystals in the under-doping region with x = 0.063, 0.07, 0.09, 0.10, 0.111 and 0.125 has been successfully prepared by traveling-solvent floating-zone (TSFZ) technique. The crystals are large and free of sub-grains and foreign phases. The high crystal quality has been revealed by double-crystal x-ray rocking curves and Rutherford backscattering spectrometry combined with ion-beam channeling effect. We find that the evolutions of the superconducting transition width and volume fraction as a function of carrier concentration exhibit in…
Bulk superconducting samples of MgB2 were prepared by solid state reaction of stoichiometric quantities of Mg turnings and B in a sealed Ta cylinder at 890 C for 2 hours. The as-synthesized MgB2 samples had a Tc of 39 K, as defined as the onset of diamagnetism. The crystal symmetry was found to be hexagonal with lattice parameters, a=3.0856 A, and c=3.5199 A, similar to the literature values. To study the effect of carbon doping in MgB2, various C-containing samples of x varying from 0 to 1.00 in MgB2-xCx were prepared. Magnetic characterizations indicate that the Tc onset is same for pure and…
The effect of nanoscale-SiC doping of MgB2 was investigated using transport and magnetic measurements. It was found that there is a clear correlation between the critical temperature Tc, the resistivity r, the residual resistivity ratio, RRR = R(300K)/R(40K), the irreversibility field H* and the alloying state in the samples. SiC-doping introduced many nano-scale precipitates, provoking an increase of r(40K) from 1 mW-cm (RRR = 15) for the clean limit sample to 300 mW-cm (RRR = 1.75) for the SiC-doped sample, leading to significant enhancement of Hc2 and H* with only minor effect on Tc. EELS a…
The London penetration depth was measured in single crystals of self-doped Na$_{1-δ}$FeAs (from under - to optimal - doping, $T_c$ from 14 to 27 K) and electron-doped Na(Fe$_{1-x}$Co$_{x}$)As with $x$ ranging from undoped, $x=0$ to overdoped $x= 0.1$. In all samples, the low - temperature variation of the penetration depth exhibits a power-law dependence, $Δλ(T) = AT^n$, with the exponent that varies in a dome - like fashion from $n \sim 1.1$ in the underdoped, reaching a maximum of $n \sim 1.9$ in the optimally doped and decreasing again to $n \sim 1.3$ on the overdoped side. While the anisot…
We investigate the origin of superconductivity in doped SrTiO$_3$ (STO) using a combination of density functional and strong coupling theories within the framework of quantum criticality. Our density functional calculations of the ferroelectric soft mode frequency as a function of doping reveal a crossover from quantum paraelectric to ferroelectric behavior at a doping level coincident with the experimentally observed top of the superconducting dome. Based on this finding, we explore a model in which the superconductivity in STO is enabled by its proximity to the ferroelectric quantum critical…

We explored by electronic Raman scattering the superconducting state of Bi-2212 single crystal by performing a fine tuned doping study. We found three distinct energy scales in A1g, B1g and B2g symmetries which show three distinct doping dependencies. Above p=0.22 the three energies merge, below p=0.12, the A1g scale is no more detectable while the B1g and B2g scales become constant in energy. In between, the A1g and B1g scales increase monotonically with under-doping while the B2g one exhibits a maximum at p=0.16. The three superconducting energy scales appear to be an universal feature of ho…
We investigated the effect of electron and hole doping on the high-field low-temperature superconducting state in CeCoIn$_5$ by measuring specific heat of CeCo(In$_{\rm 1-x}$M$_{\rm x}$)$_5$ with M=Sn, Cd and Hg and $x$ up to 0.33% at temperatures down to 0.1\,K and fields up to 14\,T. Although both Cd- and Hg-doping (hole-doping) suppresses the zero-field $T_c$ monotonically, $H_{c2}$ increases with small amounts of doping and has a maximum around $x$=0.2% (M=Cd). On the other hand, with Sn-doping (electron-doping) both zero-field $T_c$ and $H_{c2}$ decrease monotonically. The critical temper…
A dome-shaped phase diagram of superconducting critical temperature upon doping is often considered as a hallmark of unconventional superconductors. This behavior, observed in two-dimensional electron gases in $\mathrm{SrTiO}_3$-based interfaces whose electronic density is controlled by field effect, has not been explained unambiguously yet. Here, we elaborate a generic scenario for the superconducting phase diagram of these oxide interfaces based on Schrödinger-Poisson numerical simulations of the quantum well and transport experiments on a double-gate field-effect device. We propose that the…
In the spin-excitation-mediated pairing mechanism for superconductivity, the geometric frustration effects not only the spin configuration but also the superconducting-state properties. Within the framework of the kinetic-energy-driven superconducting mechanism, the doping and temperature dependence of the Meissner effect in triangular-lattice superconductors is investigated. It is shown that the magnetic-field-penetration depth exhibits an exponential temperature dependence due to the absence of the d-wave gap nodes at the Fermi surface. However, in analogy to the dome-like shape of the dopin…
The characteristic features of Ca$_{10}$(Pt$_3$As$_8$)[(Fe$_{1-x}$Pt$_x$)$_2$As$_2$]$_5$ ("10-3-8") superconductor are relatively high anisotropy and a clear separation of superconductivity and structural/magnetic transitions, which allows studying the superconducting gap without complications due to the coexisting order parameters. The London penetration depth, measured in underdoped single crystals of 10-3-8 ($x =$ 0.028, 0.041, 0.042, and 0.097), shows behavior remarkably similar to other Fe-based superconductors, exhibiting robust power-law, $Δλ(T) = A T^n$. The exponent $n$ decreases from…
It is shown that the bipolaron theory of Cooper pairs suggests that there is a possibility for a superconducting phase to exist at low and high levels of doping and be absent at intermediate level of doping. The results obtained imply possibly universal character of 1/8 anomaly.
In a recent paper Kendziora et al concluded that the superconducting gap in overdoped Bi-2212 is isotropic. From data obtained from electronic Raman scattering measurements, their conclusion was based on the observation that pair breaking peaks occured at approximately the same frequency in different scattering geometries and that the normalized scattering intensity at low energies was strongly depleted. We discuss a different interpretation of the raw data and present new data which is consistent with a strongly anisotropic gap with nodes. The spectra can be successfully described by a model …

We measured the in-plane optical conductivity of a nearly optimally doped (Ba,K)Fe2As2 single crystal with Tc = 39.1 K. Upon entering the superconducting state the optical conductivity below ~20 meV vanishes, strongly suggesting a fully gapped system. A BCS-like fit requires two different isotropic gaps to describe the optical response of this material. The temperature dependence of the gaps and the penetration depth suggest a strong interband coupling, but no impurity scattering induced pair breaking is present. This contrasts to the large residual conductivity observed in optimally doped Ba(…
Superconductivity in copper oxides emerges on doping holes or electrons into their Mott insulating parent compounds. The spin excitations are thought to be the mediating glue for the pairing in superconductivity. Here the momentum and doping dependence of the dynamical spin response in the electron-doped cuprate superconductors is studied based on the kinetic-energy-driven superconducting mechanism. It is shown that the dispersion of the low-energy spin excitations changes strongly upon electron doping, however, the hour-glass-shaped dispersion of the low-energy spin excitations appeared in th…
Graphene has exhibited a wealth of fascinating properties, but is also known not to be a superconductor. Remarkably, we show that graphene can be made a conventional Bardeen-Cooper-Schrieffer superconductor by the combined effect of charge doping and tensile strain. While the effect of doping is obvious to enlarge Fermi surface, the effect of strain is profound to greatly increase the electron-phonon coupling. At the experimental accessible doping (4E+14cm-2) and strain (~16%) levels, the superconducting critical temperature Tc reaches as high as ~30 K, the highest for a single-element materia…
Cd-doped La(O,F)BiS2 single crystals were grown using a CsCl/KCl flux. The grown crystals have a plate-like shape with ~1-2 mm square size in a well-developed ab-plane. The Cd doping in the crystals was successfully characterized by single crystal X-ray diffraction and electron probe microanalysis techniques. The superconductivity of La(O,F)BiS2 was gradually suppressed with Cd doping. The superconducting transition temperature with zero resistivity of La(O0.54F0.46)(Bi0.92Cd0.08)S2 was 2.3 K. The Cd doping does not change the superconducting anisotropy so much, albeit the considerable suppres…
We present details of synthesis optimization and physical properties of nearly single phase carbon doped MgB2 with a nominal stoichiometry of Mg(B{0.8}C{0.2})2 synthesized from magnesium and boron carbide (B4C) as starting materials. The superconducting transition temperature is ~ 22 K (~ 17 K lower than in pure MgB2). The temperature dependence of the upper critical field is steeper than in pure MgB2 with Hc2(10K) ~ 9 T. Temperature dependent specific heat data taken in different applied magnetic fields suggest that the two-gap nature of superconductivity is still preserved for carbon doped M…
The structural, electrical and magnetic properties of the superconducting ferromagnets, Gd1.4-xDyxCe0.6Sr2RuCu2O10 (x=0-0.6) are systematically investigated as a function of Dy doping and temperature. These compounds are characterised by high temperature superconductivity (Tc ranging from 20-40 K depending upon the Dy content) coexisting with weak ferromagnetism with two magnetic transitions (TM2 ranging from 95-106 K and TM1 around 120 K). Doping with Dy gives no significant structural changes except for a minor change in the c/a ratio. However the superconducting transition temperature is si…
A series of high-quality under-doped La2-xSrxCuO4 superconductor crystals with x = 0.063 - 0.125 were prepared by traveling-solvent floating-zone (TSFZ) technique. We found by dc magnetic measurements that, in this series of crystals, the superconducting transition was quite sharp in the vicinity of the hole densities of x = 1/16 and x = 1/9 while it was much broader away from these two "magic numbers", and the Meissner fraction showed a remarkable minimum near x = 1/9. We concluded that these phenomena are reflections of intrinsic properties of this cuprate system. Our observations are discus…
How does Fermi surface develop in cuprates upon doping of a parent Mott insulator, does it consist of large barrels or small pockets, which of them is responsible for superconductivity and what is a role of the pseudogap? Those are actively debated questions, important for understanding of high temperature superconductivity. Here we analyze doping dependence of interlayer tunneling in cuprates. We observe that with decreasing doping the supercurrent is rapidly decreasing, but the quasiparticle resistance at high bias remains almost unchanged. This indicates that Cooper pair and quasiparticle c…
Recent transport experiments in the cuprate superconductors linked the opening of the pseudogap to a change in electronic dispersion [S. Badoux et al., Nature 531, 210 (2015)]. Transport measurements showed that the carrier density sharply changes from $x$ to $1+x$ at the pseudogap critical doping, in accordance with the change from Fermi arcs at low doping to a large hole Fermi surface at high doping. The SU(2) theory of cuprates shows that antiferromagnetic short range interactions cause the arising of both charge and superconducting orders, which are related by an SU(2) symmetry. The fluctu…
