We compute the flux of axions from Active Galactic Nuclei (AGN). Axions can be produced in the accretion disk by the Compton, Bremsstrahlung and Primakoff processes. We find that the axion luminosity due to these processes is negligible in comparison to the photon luminosity from AGNs. We also compute the luminosity of a hypothetical pseudoscalar, with very small mass, from the AGN atmosphere due to the phenomenon of pseudoscalar-photon mixing in background magnetic field. In this case we find that for some parameter ranges, the pseudoscalar flux can exceed that of photons. We comment on the implications of this result on the observed large scale alignment of optical polarizations from AGNs.
We investigate the production of photons from coherently oscillating, spatially localized clumps of axionic fields (oscillons and axion stars) in the presence of external electromagnetic fields. We delineate different qualitative behaviour of the photon luminosity in terms of an effective dimensionless coupling parameter constructed out of the axion-photon coupling, and field amplitude, oscillation frequency and radius of the axion star. For small values of this dimensionless coupling, we provide a general analytic formula for the dipole radiation field and the photon luminosity per solid angl…
We show that the interaction of an axion field, or in general a pseudoscalar field, with the axial-vector current generated by an electron through a derivative-type coupling can give rise to a time-dependent mixing of opposite-parity states in atomic and molecular systems. Likewise, the analogous interaction of an axion field with the axial-vector current generated by a nucleon can give rise to time-dependent mixing of opposite-parity states in nuclear systems. This mixing can induce oscillating electric dipole moments, oscillating parity non-conservation effects and oscillating anapole moment…
If the dark matter is made of ultra-light axions, stable solitonic cores form at the centers of virialized halos. In some range for the mass $m$ of the axion particle, these cores are sufficiently compact and can mimic supermassive black holes (SMBH) residing at galactic nuclei. We use the solitonic core--halo mass relation, validated in numerical simulations, to constrain a new range of allowed axion mass from measurements of the SMBH mass in (pseudo)bulge and bulgeless galaxies. These limits are based on observations of galactic nuclei on scales smaller than 10 pc. Our analysis suggests that…
For the first time, we predict the axion spectra and their associated luminosities for several low-mass stars -- one and two solar masses stars in the main sequence and post-main sequence stages of evolution. Equally, we also compute the x-ray excess emission resulting from the conversion of axions back to photons in the presence of a strong magnetic field in the envelope of these stars. Hence, a given star will have a unique axion spectrum and $L_a$ axion luminosity. And if such star has a strong magnetic field in its stellar envelope, it will also show a characteristic x-ray spectrum and $L_…

Toward the Standard Population Synthesis Model of the X-Ray Background: Evolution of X-Ray Luminosity and Absorption Functions of Active Galactic Nuclei Including Compton-Thick Populations
Deep X-ray surveys have provided a comprehensive and largely unbiased view of active galactic nuclei (AGN) evolution stretching back to $z \sim 5$. However, it has been challenging to use the survey results to connect this evolution to the cosmological environment that AGNs inhabit. Exploring this connection will be crucial to understanding the triggering mechanisms of AGNs and how these processes manifest in observations at all wavelengths. In anticipation of upcoming wide-field X-ray surveys that will allow quantitative analysis of AGN environments, this paper presents a method to observatio…
