We show how parton distributions unintegrated over the parton transverse momentum, k_t, may be generated, at NLO accuracy, from the known integrated (DGLAP-evolved) parton densities determined from global data analyses. A few numerical examples are given, which demonstrate that sufficient accuracy is obtained by keeping only the LO splitting functions together with the NLO integrated parton densities. However, it is important to keep the precise kinematics of the process, by taking the scale to be the virtuality rather than the transverse momentum, in order to be consistent with the calculation of the NLO splitting functions.
We investigate the infrared singularity structure of Feynman diagrams entering the next-to-leading-order (NLO) DGLAP kernel (non-singlet). We examine cancellations between diagrams for two gluon emission contributing to NLO kernels. We observe the crucial role of color coherence effects in cancellations of infra-red singularities. Numerical calculations are explained using analytical formulas for the singular contributions.
We are reporting on the ongoing effort of the Monte Carlo (MC) modelling of NLO DGLAP QCD evolution in the fully unintegrated form. The resulting parton shower MC is performing on its own the NLO QCD evolution, contrary to all known programs of this kind which are limited to LO level only. We overview this new MC scheme, for the non-singlet subset of the gluonstrahlung diagrams. Precision numerical tests of this new scheme are also shown.
Feynman diagrams with two real partons contributing to the next-to-leading-order singlet gluon-quark DGLAP kernel are analysed. The infra-red singularities of unintegrated distributions are examined numerically. The analytical formulae are also given in some cases. The role of the colour coherence effects is found to be crucial for cancellations of the double- and single-logarithmic infra-red singularities.
We discuss the different Kimber-Martin-Ryskin (KMR) prescriptions for unintegrated parton distribution functions (uPDFs). We show that the strong-ordering (SO) and the angular-ordering (AO) cut-offs lead to strong discrepancies between the obtained cross sections. While the result obtained with the AO cut-off overestimates the heavy-flavor cross section by about a factor 3, the SO cut-off gives the correct answer. We also solve the issue of the KMR uPDFs definitions mentioned by Golec-Biernat and Staśto, and show that, in the case of the AO cut-off, the KMR uPDFs are ill-defined.
Presently available perturbative QCD calculations combining hard process matrix element with the Parton Shower Monte Carlo programs feature hard process matrix element calculated often beyond the leading order (LO), that is including complete next-to-leading-order (NLO), or even next-to-next-to-leading-order (NNLO) corrections, while Parton Shower is only at the leading order (LO). We report here on a work in progress which demonstrate feasibility of constructing Parton Shower Monte Carlo (PSMC) featuring complete NLO corrections to QCD evolution with respect to the logarithm of the factorizat…
The next-to-leading order (NLO) evolution of the parton distribution functions (PDF's) in QCD is the "industry standard" in the lepton-hadron and hadron-hadron collider data analysis. The standard NLO DGLAP evolution is formulated for inclusive (integrated) PDFs and is done using inclusive NLO kernels. We report here on the ongoing project, called KRKMC, in which NLO DGLAP evolution is performed for the exclusive multiparton (fully unintegrated) distributions (ePDF's) with the help of the exclusive kernels. These kernels are calculated within the two-parton phase space for bremsstrahlung subse…
In a series of papers, we have investigated the compatibility of the $Kimber$-$Martin$-$Ryskin$ ($KMR$) and $Martin$-$Ryskin$-$Watt$ ($MRW$) $unintegrated$ parton distribution functions ($UPDF$) as well as the description of the experimental data on the proton structure functions. The present work is a sequel to that survey, via calculation of the transverse momentum distribution of the electro-weak gauge vector bosons in the $k_t$-factorization scheme, by the means of the $KMR$, the $LO\;MRW$ and the $NLO\;MRW$ $UPDF$, in the next-to leading order ($NLO$). To this end, we have calculated and …
We present recent results on transverse momentum dependent parton densities in the limit of small Bjorken x. A definition of an unintegrated seaquark density is proposed which can be used within the CCFM Monte-Carlo event generator CASCADE. We further discuss aspects of the determination of a NLO BFKL unintegrated gluon density.
The longitudinal proton structure function, $F_L(x,Q^2)$, from the $k_t$ factorization formalism by using the unintegrated parton distribution functions (UPDF) which are generated through the KMR and MRW procedures. The LO UPDF of the KMR prescription is extracted, by taking into account the PDF of Martin et al, i.e. MSTW2008-LO and MRST99-NLO and next, the NLO UPDF of the MRW scheme is generated through the set of MSTW2008-NLO PDF as the inputs. The different aspects of $F_L(x,Q^2)$ in the two approaches, as well as its perturbative and non-perturbative parts are calculated. Then the comparis…
We report on the progress in calculating NLO DGLAP splitting functions for $x<1$ using the New Principal Value prescription, which is a modification of the standard Principal Value approach proposed by Curci, Furmanski and Petronzio in 1980. The new prescription reproduces the standard results on the inclusive (integrated) level, but simplifies individual contributions and restricts the cancellations between real and virtual diagrams which makes it useful for Monte Carlo simulations.
We propose a modified use of the Principal Value prescription for regularizing the infrared singularities in the light-cone axial gauge by applying it to all singularities in the light-cone plus component of integration momentum. The modification is motivated by and applied to the re-calculation of the QCD NLO splitting functions for the purpose of Monte Carlo implementations. The final results agree with the standard PV prescription whereas contributions from separate graphs get simplified.
We consider the photoproduction of D* mesons associated with two hadron jets at HERA collider in the framework of the kt-factorization approach. The unintegrated gluon densities in a proton are obtained from the full CCFM, from unified BFKL-DGLAP evolution equations as well as from the Kimber-Martin-Ryskin prescription. Resolved photon contributions are reproduced by the initial-state gluon radiation. We investigate different production rates and make comparison with the recent experimental data taken by the ZEUS collaboration. Special attention is put on the specific dijet correlations which …
We describe the use of doubly-unintegrated parton distributions in hadron-hadron collisions, using the (z,k_t)-factorisation prescription where the transverse momentum of the incoming parton is generated in the last evolution step. We apply this formalism to calculate the transverse momentum (P_T) distributions of produced W and Z bosons and compare the predictions to Tevatron Run 1 data. We find that the observed P_T distributions can be generated almost entirely by the leading order q_1 q_2 -> W,Z subprocesses, using known and universal doubly-unintegrated quark distributions. We also calcul…
We compute the leading order (LO) $qg\to q γ$ and next-to-leading order (NLO) $gg\to q{\bar q} γ$ contributions to inclusive photon production in proton-proton (p+p) collisions at the LHC. These channels provide the dominant contribution at LO and NLO for photon transverse momenta $k_{γ\perp}$ corresponding to momentum fractions of $x\leq 0.01$ in the colliding protons. Our computations, performed in the dilute-dense framework of the Color Glass Condensate effective field theory (CGC EFT), show that the NLO contribution dominates at small-$x$ because it is sensitive to $k_\perp$-dependent unin…
We previously investigated the compatibility of the $Kimber$-$Martin$-$Ryskin$ ($KMR$) $unintegrated$ parton distribution functions ($UPDF$) with the experimental data on the proton (longitudinal) structure functions ($PSF$ ($PLSF$)). Recently $Golec-Biernat$ and $Stasto$ ($GBS$) demonstrated that the differential version of $KMR$ prescription and the implementations of angular (strong) ordering ($AOC$ ($SOC$)) constraints, cause the negative-discontinuous $UPDF$ with the ordinary parton distribution functions ($PDF$) as the input, which leads to a sizable effect on the calculation of $PSF$. I…
In this note we outline the Monte Carlo project {\tt KrkMC}. The goal of this project is to construct a QCD Parton Shower accurate to NLO level in both coefficient function and splitting function (shower) parts. We discuss in detail one of its aspects --- the evolution kernels. The kernels had to be recalculated in a new regularisation scheme, called NPV. In this scheme all the singularities in the plus component of the integration momenta are regularised by means of principal value prescription. This is in contrast to the standard approach, in which only the spurious axial singularities are r…
The present work is devoted to study the high-energy $QCD$ events, such as the di-jet productions from proton-proton inelastic collisions at the $LHC$ in the forward-center and the forward-forward configurations, using the $unintegrated$ parton distribution functions ($UPDF$) in the $k_t$-factorization framework. The $UPDF$ of $Kimber$ et. al. ($KMR$) and $Martin$ et.al. ($MRW$) are generated in the leading order ($LO$) and next-to-leading order ($NLO$), using the $Harland-Lang$ et al. ($MMHT2014$) $PDF$ libraries. While working in the forward-center and the forward-forward rapidity sectors, o…
A method to construct Monte-Carlo event generators at arbitrarily non-leading order is explained for the case of a non-gauge theory. A precise and correct treatment of parton kinematics is provided. Modifications of the conventional formalism are required: parton showering is not exactly the same as DGLAP evolution, and the external line prescription for the hard scattering differs from the LSZ prescription. The prospects for extending the results to QCD are discussed.
We show how a careful analysis of the behaviour of a parton shower Monte Carlo in the vicinity of the soft and collinear regions allows one to formulate a modified MC@NLO-matching prescription that reduces the number of negative-weight events with respect to that stemming from the standard MC@NLO procedure. As a first practical application of such a prescription, that we dub MC@NLO-$Δ$, we have implemented it in the MadGraph5_aMC@NLO framework, by employing the Pythia8 Monte Carlo. We present selected MC@NLO-$Δ$ results at the 13 TeV LHC, and compare them with MC@NLO ones. We find that the for…
We address and solve a puzzle raised by a recent calculation [1] of the cross-section for particle production in proton-nucleus collisions to next-to-leading order: the numerical results show an un- reasonably large dependence upon the choice of a prescription for the QCD running coupling, which spoils the predictive power of the calculation. Specifically, the results obtained with a prescription formulated in the transverse coordinate space differ by one to two orders of magnitude from those obtained with a prescription in momentum space. We show that this discrepancy is an artefact of the in…
The hadroproduction of prompt isolated photon pairs at high energies is studied in the NLO* framework of the Parton Reggeization Approach. The real part of the NLO corrections is computed, and the procedure for the subtraction of double counting between real parton emissions in the hard-scattering matrix element and unintegrated PDF is constructed for the amplitudes with Reggeized quarks in the initial state. The matrix element of the important NNLO subprocess RR->2gamma with full dependence on the transverse momenta of the initial-state Reggeized gluons is obtained. We compare obtained numeri…
We calculate the cross section and the transverse momentum distribution of inclusive J/ψproduction in γγcollisions at CERN LEP2 within the colour singlet model and the k_T-factorization approach, including both direct and resolved photon contributions. The unintegrated gluon distribution in the photon is determined, using the Blumlein's prescription for unintegrated gluon distribution in a proton. We compare our theoretical predictions with preliminary data taken by the DELPHI collaboration at LEP2. In addition, we present our predictions for the J/ψpolarization properties.
The next-to-leading order (NLO) evolution of the parton distribution functions (PDFs) in QCD is a common tool in the lepton-hadron and hadron-hadron collider data analysis. The standard NLO DGLAP evolution is formulated for inclusive (integrated) PDFs and done using inclusive NLO kernels. We report here on the ongoing project, called KRKMC, in which NLO DGLAP evolution is performed for the exclusive multiparton (fully unintegrated) distributions (ePDFs) with the help of the exclusive kernels. These kernels are calculated within the two-parton phase space for the non-singlet evolution, using Cu…
In this thesis we calculate the NLO one-loop virtual contributions to the QCD DGLAP splitting functions in a form suitable for Monte Carlo simulations. We use the standard technique based on the factorization properties of mass singularities in the light-cone axial gauge \cite{EGMPR79,CFP80} but we propose a modification to this approach by introducing a New Principal Value prescription \cite{GJKS14} in which we use the PV prescription for regularization of {\em all} singularities in the light-cone plus components of the four-momenta. The main advantage of the NPV prescription is that exclusiv…
We discuss the positivity of the hadron density matrix in QCD. This basic property is shown to be preserved by QCD evolution, provided the relation $|ΔP_{ij}(z)| \leq P_{ij}$ is valid for all kernels for $z < 1$, and the usual "+" prescription is used. We comment on the positivity restrictions for the choice of the NLO factorization scheme for the evolution of the spin-dependent parton distributions.
In this work, we study the structure of the leading order Martin-Ryskin-Watt (MRW) unintegrated parton distribution function (UPDF) and explain in detail why there exists discrepancy between the two different definitions of this UPDF model, i.e., the integral (I-MRW) and differential (D-MRW) MRW UPDFs. We perform this investigation with both angular and strong ordering cutoffs. The derivation footsteps of obtaining the I-MRW UPDF from the D-MRW ones are numerically performed, and the reason of such non-equivalency between the two forms is clearly explained. We show and find out that both metho…
We give a prescription for attaching parton showers to next-to-leading order (NLO) partonic jet cross sections in electron-positron annihilation. Our method effectively extends to NLO the scheme of Catani, Krauss, Kuhn, and Webber for matching between m hard jets and (m+1) hard jets. The matching between parton splitting as part of a shower and parton splitting as part of NLO matrix elements is based on the Catani-Seymour dipole subtraction method that is commonly used for removing the singularities from the NLO matrix elements.}
We show that the conventional prescription used for DGLAP parton evolution at NLO has an inconsistent treatment of the contribution from the infrared (IR) region. We illustrate the problem by studying the simple example of QED evolution, treating the electron and photon as partons. The deficiency is not present in a physical approach which removes the IR divergency and allows calculation in the normal 4-dimensional space.
We investigate the inclusive Higgs boson production in proton-proton collisions at high energies in the framework of kt-factorization QCD approach. The attention is focused on the dominant off-shell gluon-gluon fusion subprocess, where the transverse momentum of incoming gluons are taken into account. The transverse momentum dependent (or unintegrated) gluon densities of the proton are determined using the CCFM evolution equation as well as the Kimber-Martin-Ryskin prescription. We study the theoretical uncertainties of our calculations and perform the comparison with the results of traditiona…
LHC measurements involve cuts on several observables, but resummed calculations are mostly restricted to single variables. We show how the resummation of a class of double-differential measurements can be achieved through an extension of Soft-Collinear Effective Theory (SCET). A prototypical application is $pp \to Z + 0$ jets, where the jet veto is imposed through the beam thrust event shape ${\mathcal T}$, and the transverse momentum $p_T$ of the $Z$ boson is measured. A standard SCET analysis suffices for $p_T \sim m_Z^{1/2} {\mathcal T}^{1/2}$ and $p_T \sim {\mathcal T}$, but additional col…
Construction of a QCD cascade at the NLO level requires recalculation of the splitting functions in a different manner [1]. We describe the calculation of some of the virtual contributions to the non-singlet splitting function. In order to be compatible with the earlier calculated real contributions [2], the principal value prescription for regularizing the infrared singularities must be used in a new way. We illustrate this new scheme on simple examples. For the calculations we wrote a Mathematica package called Axiloop. We describe its current status.
We study the application of the Brodsky-Lepage-Mackenzie (BLM) scale setting prescription to event shape distributions in electron-positron collisions. The renormalization scale is set dynamically according to the BLM method. We study NLO predictions and we discuss extensions of the prescription to NNLO.
We simulate the hadroproduction of a t anti-t pair in association with a hard photon at LHC using the PowHel package. These events are almost fully inclusive with respect to the photon, allowing for any physically relevant isolation of the photon. We use the generated events, stored according to the Les-Houches event format, to make predictions for differential distributions formally at the next-to-leading order (NLO) accuracy and we compare these to existing predictions accurate at NLO using the smooth isolation prescription of Frixione. We also make predictions for distributions after full p…
The goal of this study is to find a prescription for defining parton distributions (PDFs) which are most appropriate for use in those codes where only LO matrix elements (MEs) are used, as in many Monte Carlo generators. We describe a modification of LO PDFs, based on using alpha_S at NLO, a specific prescription of the coupling in the QCD evolution, and violation of the momentum sum rule. We compare results with the truth - the prediction using NLO for both MEs and PDFs, and the standard LO prediction, finding that the modified PDFs generally produce the best results.
We investigate the prompt photon photoproduction at HERA within the framework of kt-factorization QCD approach. Our consideration is based on the off-shell matrix elements for the underlying partonic subprocesses. The unintegrated parton densities in a proton and in a photon are determined using the Kimber-Martin-Ryskin (KMR) prescription. Additionally, we use the CCFM-evolved unintegrated gluon as well as valence and sea quark distributions in a proton. A conservative error analisys is performed. Both inclusive and associated with the hadronic jet production rates are investigated. The theore…

In the framework of the gluon-gluon fusion process for Higgs boson production there are two different prescriptions. They are given by the exact process where the gluons couple via top-quark loops to the Higgs boson and by the approximation where the top-quark mass $m_t$ is taken to infinity. In the latter case the coupling of the gluons to the Higgs boson is described by an effective Lagrangian. Both prescriptions have been used for the $2 \to 2$ body reactions to make predictions for Higgs boson production at hadron colliders. In next-to-leading order only the effective Lagrangian approach h…
We compare fixed order and parton shower matched predictions for the process ${pp\rightarrow \ell^+ν_{\ell} \ell^-\barν_{\ell} \ell^{\pm}ν_{\ell} b\bar{b}+X}$ at NLO in QCD, including the orders $\mathcal{O}(α_s^3α^6)$ and $\mathcal{O}(α_sα^8)$. The comparison is performed at the integrated and differential fiducial level at the LHC with $\sqrt{s}=13$ TeV. In the absence of parton shower matching procedure that includes the full off-shell effects for this process at NLO in QCD, we propose a new prescription. It enables the inclusion of approximate full off-shell effects to currently available …
We use the Bessel-inspired behavior of parton densities at small Bjorken $x$ values, obtained in the case of the flat initial conditions for DGLAP evolution equations in the double scaling QCD approximation (DAS), to evaluate the transverse momentum dependent (TMD, or unintegrated) quark and gluon distribution functions in a proton. The calculations are performed analytically using the Kimber-Martin-Ryskin (KMR) prescription with different implementation of kinematical constraint, reflecting the angular and strong ordering conditions. The relations between the differential and integral formula…
A new type of parametrization for parton distribution functions in a proton, based on their $Q^2$-evolution at large and small $x$ values, is constructed. In our analysis, the valence and nonsinglet parts obey the Gross-Llewellyn-Smith and Gottfried sum rules, respectively. For the singlet quark and gluon densities momentum conservation is taken into account. Then, using the Kimber-Martin-Ryskin prescription, we extend the consideration to Transverse Momentum Dependent (TMD, or unintegrated) gluon and quark distributions in a proton, which currently plays an important role in a number of pheno…
In the present work, it is intended to calculate and study the single and double differential cross-sections of the prompt single-photon production as a function of produced single-photon transverse momentum and rapidity, in the high-energy P-P(P) colliders, such as LHC and TEVATRON. The differential cross-sections of prompt single-photon production are calculated in the $k_t$-factorization frameworks using various angular ordering unintegrated parton distribution functions (UPDF), namely the Kimber et al. and Martin et al. procedures. These scheme-dependent UPDF are generated in the leading a…
We reconsider the inclusive production of isolated prompt photons in $pp$ collisions at the LHC energies in the framework of $k_T$-factorization approach. Our analysis is based on the ${\cal O}(αα_s)$ off-shell (depending on the transverse momenta of initial quarks and gluons) production amplitudes of $q^* g^* \to γq$ and $q^* \bar q^* \to γg$ partonic subprocesses and transverse momentum dependent (or unintegrated) quark and gluon densities in a proton, which are chosen in accordance with the Kimber-Martin-Ryskin prescription. We show that the sub-leading high-order ${\cal O}(αα_s^2)$ contrib…
To study the heavy quark production processes, we use the transverse momentum dependent (TMD, or unintegrated) gluon distribution function in a proton obtained recently using the Kimber-Martin-Ryskin prescription from the Bessel-inspired behavior of parton densities at small Bjorken $x$ values. We obtained a good agreement of our results with the latest HERA experimental data for reduced cross sections $σ^{c\overline{c}}_{\rm red}(x,Q^2)$ and $σ^{b\overline{b}}_{\rm red}(x,Q^2)$, and also for deep inelastic structure functions $F_2^c(x,Q^2)$ and $F_2^b(x,Q^2)$ in a wide range of $x$ and $Q^2$ …
We present the full next-to-leading order (NLO) corrected inclusive cross section $d^3Δσ/dQ^2/dy/dp_T$ for massive lepton pair production in longitudinally polarized proton-proton collisions $p + p\to l^+l^- + 'X'$. Here $'X'$ denotes any inclusive hadronic state and Q represents the invariant mass of the lepton pair which has transverse momentum p_T and rapidity y. All QCD partonic subprocesses have been included provided the lepton pair is created by a virtual photon, which is a valid approximation for $Q<50{\rm GeV}$. Like in unpolarized proton-proton scattering the dominant subprocess is g…
We consider the POWHEG generator for a H/W/Z boson plus one jet, augmented with the recently proposed MiNLO method for the choice of scales and the inclusion of Sudakov form factors. Within this framework, the generator covers all the transverse-momentum region of the H/W/Z boson, i.e. no generation cuts are needed to obtain a finite result. By construction, the generator achieves NLO accuracy for distributions involving a finite (and relatively large) transverse momentum of the boson. We examine the conditions under which also the totally inclusive distributions (e.g. the boson rapidity distr…
We present a next-to-leading order plus parton-shower event generator for the production of a W boson plus two bottom quarks and a jet at hadron colliders, implemented in the POWHEG BOX framework. Bottom-mass effects and spin correlations of the decay products of the W boson are fully taken into account. The code has been automatically generated using the two available interfaces to MadGraph4 and GoSam, the last one updated to a new version. We have applied the MiNLO prescription to our Wbbj calculation, obtaining a finite differential cross section also in the limit of vanishing jet transvers…
We discuss the single diffractive production of $c \bar c$ pairs and charmed mesons at the LHC. In addition to standard collinear approach, for a first time we propose a $k_t$-factorization approach to the diffractive processes. The transverse momentum dependent (the unintegrated diffractive parton distributions) in proton are obtained with the help of the Kimber-Martin-Ryskin prescription where collinear diffractive PDFs are used as input. In this calculation the transverse momentum of the pomeron is neglected with respect to transverse momentum of partons entering the hard process. The resul…
It is common lore that Parton Distribution Functions (PDFs) in the $\overline{\rm { MS}}$ factorization scheme can become negative beyond leading order due to the collinear subtraction which is needed in order to define partonic cross sections. We show that this is in fact not the case and next-to-leading order (NLO) $\overline{\rm { MS}}$ PDFs are actually positive in the perturbative regime. In order to prove this, we modify the subtraction prescription, and perform the collinear subtraction in such a way that partonic cross sections remain positive. This defines a factorization scheme in wh…
This thesis studies gluon saturation in hadronic matter at high energy by calculating next-to-leading order (NLO) corrections to inclusive and diffractive deep inelastic scattering cross sections in the Color Glass Condensate (CGC) effective field theory. We demonstrate that the large soft gluon logarithm is correctly factorized into the Balitsky-Kovchegov (BK) renormalization group equation by accurately connecting the NLO scattering kinematics to the rapidity scale of the dipole amplitude in the scattering. This brings the perturbative expansion under control and enables us to do precision c…
We formulate a general approach to the inclusion of theoretical uncertainties, specifically those related to the missing higher order uncertainty (MHOU), in the determination of parton distribution functions (PDFs). We demonstrate how, under quite generic assumptions, theory uncertainties can be included as an extra contribution to the covariance matrix when determining PDFs from data. We then review, clarify, and systematize the use of renormalization and factorization scale variations as a means to estimate MHOUs consistently in deep inelastic and hadronic processes. We define a set of presc…
In this work, the P-P(P) Drell-Yan lepton pair production (DY) differential cross sections at hadrons colliders, such as LHC and TEVATRON, are studied in the ${k_{t}}$-factorization framework. In order to take into account the transverse momenta of incoming partons, we use the unintegrated parton distribution functions (UPDF) of Kimber et al (KMR) and Martin et al (MRW) in the leading order (LO) and next-to-leading-order (NLO) levels with the input MMHT2014 PDF libraries. Based on the different off-shell partonic matrix elements, we analyze the behaviors of DY differential cross sections with …
The cross section of the single photon in ppBar collision is calculated. There are many subprocesses, for example the LO and NLO collisions, leading to the single photon. The LO collisions, the one of which (Compton scattering) is strongly dependent on the gluon distribution function, are investigated. Both the off-shell (k_t dependent) and on-shell partons are considered in the diffusions, and their differences are discussed. The unintegrated parton distribution functions (UPDFs), used for the off-shell partons, are calculated by the Martin-Ryskin-Watt (MRW) method. In the case of the on-shel…
