Anisotropic Fe K-edge and As K-edge X-ray absorption near edge spectrum (XANES) measurements on superconducting (T_c = 52 K) (Sm_{0.95}La_{0.05})FeAs(O_{0.85}F_{0.15}) field-aligned microcrystalline powder are presented. The angular dependence of Fe pre-edge peak (dipole transition of Fe-1s electrons to Fe-3d/As-4p hybrid bands) relative to the tetragonal ab-plane of aligned powder indicates larger density of state (DOS) along the c-axis, and is consistent with the LDA band structure calculation. The anisotropic Fe K-edge spectra exhibit a chemical shift to lower energy compared to FeO which are closely related to the itinerant character of Fe^{2+}-3d^6 orbitals. The anisotropic As K-edge spectra are more or less the mirror images of Fe K-edge due to the symmetrical Fe-As hybridiztion in the FeAs layer. Angular dependence of As main peak (dipole transition of As-1s electrons to higher energy hybrid bands) was observed suggesting character of As-4d e_g orbitals.
We discuss the applied magnetic field dependence of the absorption of microwaves by a 3-dimensional array up to 30x30x30 Josephson junctions with random parameters including the resistivity, capacity and inductance of each junction. The numerical simulation results for the networks show characteristic microwave absorption anomalies observed in the ceramic samples of high temperature superconductor YBa2Cu3O(7-x). We also provide a discussion of the absorption in simple analytical terms of Josephson loop instabilities.
We fabricated the c axis and ab-plane biaxially aligned Sr0.6K0.4Fe2As2 superconductor using a two-step magnetic field procedure. The effect of magnetic fields on the structure and superconducting properties of Sr0.6K0.4Fe2As2 has been investigated by using X-ray diffraction and magnetic measurements. The degree of orientation of the samples was about 0.39 for the c axis and 0.51 for ab-plane orientation, as evaluated from the Lotgering factor of X-ray diffraction. This technology might be useful in a variety of potential applications, including preparing iron based superconducting bulks and w…
We discuss a new mechanism of microwave absorption in s- and d-wave superconductors, which arises in the presence of a dc supercurrent in the system. It produces a contribution to the ac conductivity that is proportional to the inelastic quasiparticle relaxation time. This contribution also determines the supercurrent dependence of the conductivity. It may significantly exceed the conventional contribution because in typical superconductors the inelastic relaxation time is several orders of magnitude longer than the elastic one. We show that the aforementioned contribution to the conductivity …
We predict a resonant microwave absorption on collective vortex modes in a superclean d-wave superconductor. Energies of the collective modes are multiples of the distance between the exact quantum levels of bound states in the vortex core at lower temperatures and involve delocalized states for higher temperatures. We calculate the vortex mass in a d-wave superconductor as a response to a slow acceleration of the vortex. The universal flux-flow regime predicted by N. Kopnin and G. Volovik [Phys. Rev. Lett. 79, 1377 (1997)] is discussed in more detail.
We discuss the low-frequency absorption arising from quenched inhomogeneity in the superfluid density rho_s of a model superconductor. Such inhomogeneities may arise in a high-T_c superconductor from a wide variety of sources, including quenched random disorder and static charge density waves such as stripes. Using standard classical methods for treating randomly inhomogeneous media, we show that both mechanisms produce additional absorption at finite frequencies. For a two-fluid model with weak mean-square fluctuations <(d rho_s)^2 > in rho_s and a frequency-independent quasiparticle conducti…
Enhanced microwave absorption, larger than that in the normal state, is observed in fine grains of type-II superconductors (MgB$_2$ and K$_3$C$_{60}$) for magnetic fields as small as a few $\%$ of the upper critical field. The effect is predicted by the theory of vortex motion in type-II superconductors, however its direct observation has been elusive due to skin-depth limitations; conventional microwave absorption studies employ larger samples where the microwave magnetic field exclusion significantly lowers the absorption. We show that the enhancement is observable in grains smaller than the…
We present magnetization measurements for the upper critical field $H_{c2}$ on aligned Na$_{x}$(H$_{3}$O)$_{z}$CoO$_{2}\cdot y$H$_{2}$O superconductors with magnetic field parallel to CoO$_2$ layers. The temperature-dependent part of the normal-state magnetization $M(H,T)$ can be well scaled with Brillouin function, suggesting the existence of impurity moments. By subtracting the contribution of the magnetic impurity moments, a well defined onset of superconducting diamagnetism allows the in-field superconducting transition temperature $T_{c}$($H$) accurately determined. No superconducting tra…
We theoretically investigate the two-photon absorption spectrum of conventional s-wave superconductors. The calculation is carried out in the local limit at absolute zero. The direct excitation of quasiparticles is excluded under the condition that the frequency of the external field is lower than twice the magnitude of the superconducting gap. We calculate vertex corrections with the conserving approximation, and show that the amplitude mode is independent of the impurity scattering in the local limit. Because of this property, a diverging absorption edge appears in the dirty limit. We propos…
The weak localization effect on a linear absorption spectrum is investigated for disordered s-wave superconductors. The vertex correction is incorporated into the response function in a way that is consistent with the weak localization correction to a one-particle spectrum. The effect of interactions between electrons enhanced by their diffusive motion makes a major contribution to the correction term. Numerical calculations show that the weak localization effect suppresses the absorption by the excitation across the gap to a greater extent than that by thermal excitation, which is a similar t…
The powder alignment method is used to investigate the anisotropic physical properties of the weak-ferromagnetic superconductor system RuSr2RCu2O8 (R = Pr, Nd, Sm, Eu, Gd, Gd0.5Dy0.5). The RuSr2GdCu2O8 cuprate is a weak-ferromagnetic superconductor with a magnetic ordering of Ru moments at TN(Ru) = 131 K, a superconducting transition in the CuO2 layers at Tc = 56 K, and a low temperature Gd antiferromagnetic ordering at TN(Gd) = 2.5 K. Due to weak magnetic anisotropy of this tetragonal system, highly c-axis aligned microcrystalline powder (diameter ~ 1-10 $μ$m) in epoxy can be obtained only fo…
In a d-wave superconductor with elastic impurity scattering, not all the available optical spectral weight goes into the condensate at zero temperature, and this leads to residual absorption. We find that for a range of impurity parameters in the intermediate coupling regime between Born (weak) and unitary (strong) limit, significant oscillator strength remains which exhibits a cusp like behavior of the real part of the optical conductivity with upward curvature as a function of frequency, as well as a quasilinear temperature dependence of the superfluid density. The calculations offer an expl…
Thin films of the iron-based superconductor BaFe2(As1-xPx)2 (Ba122:P) were fabricated on polycrystalline metal-tape substrates with two kinds of in-plane grain boundary alignments (well aligned (4 deg.) and poorly aligned (8 deg.)) by pulsed laser deposition. The poorly aligned substrate is not applicable to cuprate-coated conductors because the in-plane alignment >4 deg. results in exponential decay of the critical current density (Jc). The Ba122:P film exhibited higher Jc at 4 K when grown on the poorly aligned substrate than on the well-aligned substrate even though the crystallinity was po…
In the superclean case the spectrum of vortex core excitations in the presence of disorder is not random but consists of two series of equally-spaced levels. The I-V characteristics of such superconductors displays many interesting phenomena. A series of resonances is predicted at frequencies commensurate with the spacing of the vortex excitations. These resonances reveal an even-odd anomaly. In the presence of one weak impurity the excitation levels can approach each other and almost cross. Absorption at very low frequencies is identified with the resonances arising in this case. The results …
We present results of a microwave surface impedance study of the heavy fermion superconductor UBe13. We clearly observe an absorption peak whose frequency- and temperature-dependence scales with the BCS gap function. Resonant absorption into a collective mode, with energy approximately proportional to the superconducting gap, is proposed as a possible explantation.
We investigate the microwave absorption arising from inhomogeneity in the superfluid density of a model high-T_c superconductor. Such inhomogeneities may arise from a wide variety of sources, including quenched random disorder and static charge density waves such as stripes. We show that both mechanisms will inevitably produce additional absorption at finite frequencies. We present simple model calculations for this extra absorption, and discuss applications to other transport properties in high-T_c materials. Finally, we discuss the connection of these predictions to recent measurements by Co…
Electron energy loss near edge spectra (ELNES) has been calculated for two different Fe based superconducting material FeSe and FeTe using density functional theory (DFT). Fe K-edge absorption spectra consist of several features, origins of which are thoroughly described in light of partial density of states of constituent atoms. Here we have included "core-hole effect" and found drastic change in absorption spectra. Our results including core hole effect matches very well with experimental X-ray Absorption Near Edge Structure (XANES) results available in literature.
We analyze the qualitative features in the transition spectra of a model superconductor with multiple energy gaps, using a simple extension of the Mattis-Bardeen expression for probes with case I and case II coherence factors. At temperature T = 0, the far infrared absorption edge is, as expected, determined by the smallest gap. However, the large thermal background may mask this edge at finite temperatures and instead the secondary absorption edges found at Delta_i+Delta_j may become most prominent. At finite T, if certain interband matrix elements are large, there may also be absorption peak…
We consider the implications of the small Fermi surface for the ab-plane microwave absorption. The small Fermi surface results in two superconducting condensates. Linear combinations of these condensates correspond to the d- and g-wave pairings. Microwave electric field applied in the ab-plane induces Josephson transitions between the condensates. Dependence of the absorption upon direction, amplitude and frequency of the external microwave field is calculated. Results of the calculation are compared with the observed recently novel non-linear phenomena in microwave absorption of $YBaCu_2O_{7-…
Changes of the 400 cm^{-1} peak in the c-axis conductivity of underdoped YBa2Cu3O6.6 upon application of a parallel magnetic field reported by Kojima et al. are shown to be consistent with the model where the peak is due to the superfluid. Results of our calculations of the c-axis response of bilayer compounds with well defined bilayer-split bands are presented and discussed. For moderate values of the bilayer splitting (Delta E comparable to 2Delta_{max}) the spectra of the superconducting state exhibit an additional mode which is due to the condensate and similar to the one of earlier phenom…
The injection of pure spin current into superconductors by the dynamics of a ferromagnetic contact is studied theoretically. Taking into account suppression of the order parameter at the interfaces (inverse proximity effect) and the energy-dependence of spin-flip scattering, we determine the temperature-dependent ferromagnetic resonance linewidth broadening. Our results agree with recent experiments in Nb|permalloy bilayers [C. Bell et al., arXiv:cond-mat/0702461].
Magnetic impurities affect the spectrum of excitations of a superconductor and thus influence its impedance. We concentrate on the dissipative part of the surface impedance. We investigate its dependence on frequency, the density and strength of magnetic impurities, and the density and temperature of quasiparticles. Even a small concentration of weak magnetic impurities significantly modifies the excitation spectrum in the vicinity of the BCS gap. Therefore, we give special attention to the absorption threshold behavior at zero temperature and to the low-frequency absorption by quasiparticles.…
We discuss a mechanism of microwave absorption in conventional superconductors which is similar to the Debye absorption mechanism in molecular gases. The contribution of this mechanism to the \emph{ac} conductivity is proportional to the inelastic quasiparticle relaxation time $τ_\mathrm{\mathrm{in}}$ rather than the elastic one $τ_{\mathrm{el}}$ and therefore it can be much larger than the conventional one. The Debye contribution to the linear conductivity arises only in the presence of a \emph{dc} supercurrent in the system and its magnitude depends strongly on the orientation of the microwa…
We suggest a straightforward and unambiguous test to identify possible opposite signs of superconducting order parameter in different bands proposed for iron-based superconductors (s+- state). We consider proximity effect in a weakly coupled sandwich composed of a s+- superconductor and thin layer of s-wave superconductor. In such system the s-wave order parameter is coupled differently with different s+- gaps and it typically aligns with one of these gaps. This forces the other s+- gap to be anti-aligned with the s-wave gap. In such situation the aligned band induces a peak in the s-wave dens…
We study a diffusive superconductor-normal metal-superconductor junction in an environment with intrinsic incoherent fluctuations which couple to the junction through an electromagnetic field. When the temperature of the junction differs from that of the environment, this coupling leads to an energy transfer between the two systems, taking the junction out of equilibrium. We describe this effect in the linear response regime and show that the change in the supercurrent induced by this coupling leads to qualitative changes in the current-phase relation and for a certain range of parameters, an …
We model s- and d-wave ceramic superconductors with a three-dimensional lattice of randomly distributed Josephson junctions with finite self-inductance. The field and temperature dependences of the microwave absoption are obtained by solving the corresponding Langevin dynamical equations. We find that at magnetic field H=0 the microwave absoption of the s-wave samples, when plotted against the field, has a minimum at any temperature. In the case of d-wave superconductors one has a peak at H=0 in the temperature region where the paramagnetic Meissner effect is observable. These results agree wi…
Recently a generic model has been proposed for the single-particle properties of gapless superconductors with simultaneously present pair-conserving and pair-breaking impurity scattering (the so-called Dynes superconductors). Here we calculate the optical conductivity of the Dynes superconductors. Our approach is applicable for all disorder strengths from the clean up to the dirty limit and for all relative ratios of the two types of scattering, nevertheless the complexity of our description is equivalent to that of the widely used Mattis-Bardeen theory. We identify two optical fingerprints of…
The chiral optical absorption by a single vortex in a p_x \pm i p_y-wave superconductor is studied theoretically. The p_x \pm i p_y-wave state was recently suggested as the symmetry of the order parameter of Sr_2 Ru O_4 superconductor. Due to the violation of time reversal symmetry, there are two types of vortices whose winding orientation is the same or opposite to the angular momentum of the Cooper pair. In a real material domains with p_x \pm i p_y-wave states are expected. However, optical absorption of circular polarized light depends only on the winding of the vortex and has a low energy…
The research on the longitudinal ultrasound absorption in an intermediate state of the high pure Gallium single crystal at the frequency of 50-190MHz at the temperatures of 0,37-0,75 K, using the impulse method, is conducted. The new effects in the absorption of ultrasound in an intermediate state of the high pure type I superconductor are discovered. The big oscillations in the dependence of the ultrasound absorption on the magnetic field in an intermediate state of the high pure Gallium single crystal are experimentally observed at the magnitudes of magnetic field below the critical magnetic…
We compare the upper critical field of bulk single-crystalline samples of the two intrinsic transition metal dichalcogenide (TMD) superconductors, 2H-NbSe2 and 2H-NbS2, in high magnetic fields where their layer structure is aligned strictly parallel and perpendicular to the field, using magnetic torque experiments and a high-precision piezo-rotary positioner. While both superconductors show that orbital effects still have a significant impact when the layer structure is aligned parallel to the field, the upper critical field of NbS2 rises above the Pauli limiting field and forms a Fulde-Ferrel…
The orbital symmetries of electron doped iron-arsenide superconductors Ba(Fe1-xCox)2As2 have been measured with x-ray absorption spectroscopy. The data reveal signatures of Fe d electron itinerancy, weak electronic correlations, and a high degree of Fe-As hybridization related to the bonding topology of the Fe dxz+yz states, which are found to contribute substantially at the Fermi level. The energies and detailed orbital character of Fe and As derived unoccupied s and d states are found to be in remarkably good agreement with the predictions of standard density functional theory.
We analytically examine the excitation of surface Josephson plasma waves (SJPWs) in periodically-modulated layered superconductors. We show that the absorption of the incident electromagnetic wave can be substantially increased, for certain incident angles, due to the resonance excitation of SJPWs. The absorption increase is accompanied by the decrease of the specular reflection. Moreover, we find the physical conditions guaranteeing the total absorption (and total suppression of the specular reflection). These conditions can be realized for Bi2212 superconductor films.
We study oxygen K-edge x-ray absorption spectroscopy (XAS) and investigate the validity of the Zhang-Rice singlet (ZRS) picture in overdoped cuprate superconductors. Using large-scale exact diagonalization of the three-orbital Hubbard model, we observe the effect of strong correlations manifesting in a dynamical spectral weight transfer from the upper Hubbard band to the ZRS band. The quantitative agreement between theory and experiment highlights an additional spectral weight reshuffling due to core-hole interaction. Our results confirm the important correlated nature of the cuprates and eluc…
The local lattice structure in newly discovered LaFeAsO1-xFx superconductors is studied by extended x-ray absorption fine structure measurements. An anomalous upturn of the mean-square relative displacement of the Fe-As bond is detected below ~70 K as electron carriers are introduced, reflecting the occurrence of Fe-As bond local lattice fluctuation. Similar to that in cuprates, this lattice fluctuation exhibits an abrupt depression at the onset superconducting transition temperature. The results indicate that strong electron-lattice interaction is involved in the superconducting transition in …
X-ray absorption spectra on the overdoped high-temperature superconductors Tl_2Ba_2CuO_{6+delta} (Tl-2201) and La_{2-x}Sr_xCuO_{4+delta} (LSCO) reveal a striking departure in the electronic structure from that of the underdoped regime. The upper Hubbard band, identified with strong correlation effects, is not observed on the oxygen K edge, while the lowest-energy prepeak gains less intensity than expected above p ~ 0.21. This suggests a breakdown of the Zhang-Rice singlet approximation and a loss of correlation effects or a significant shift in the most fundamental parameters of the system, re…
Qualitative differences in the spectrum of a superconductor near magnetic impurity pairs with moments aligned parallel and antiparallel are derived. A proposal is made for a new, nonmagnetic scanning tunneling spectroscopy of magnetic impurity interactions based on these differences. Near parallel impurity pairs the mid-gap localized spin-polarized states associated with each impurity hybridize and form bonding and anti-bonding molecular states with different energies. For antiparallel impurity moments the states do not hybridize; they are degenerate.
We report on results of our theoretical study of the c-axis infrared conductivity of bilayer high-Tc cuprate superconductors using a microscopic model involving the bilayer-split (bonding and antibonding) bands. An emphasis is on the gauge-invariance of the theory, which turns out to be essential for the physical understanding of the electrodynamics of these compounds. The description of the optical response involves local (intra-bilayer and inter-bilayer) current densities and local conductivities. The local conductivities are obtained using a microscopic theory, where the quasiparticles of t…
The concept of mass-generation via the Higgs mechanism was strongly inspired by earlier works on the Meissner-Ochsenfeld effect in superconductors. In quantum field theory, the excitations of longitudinal components of the Higgs field manifest as massive Higgs bosons. The analogous Higgs mode in superconductors has not yet been observed due to its rapid decay into particle-hole pairs. Following recent theories, however, the Higgs mode should decrease below the pairing gap $2Δ$ and become visible in two-dimensional systems close to the superconductor-insulator transition (SIT). For experimental…
We study proximity effects close to a boundary between s and s+- superconductors. Frustration, caused by interaction of the s-wave gap parameter with the opposite-sign gaps of s+- superconductor, leads to several anomalous features. In the case of strong frustration a nontrivial time-reversal-symmetry breaking (TRSB) state, with nonzero phase angles between all gap parameters, is possible. In a more typical state, the s-wave order parameter is aligned with one of the s+- gaps. The other (anti-aligned) gap induces negative feature in the s-wave density of states, which can serve as a fingerprin…
A new method is introduced for probing Topological Superconductors. The integration of the superconding fermions generates a topological $\mathbf{Chern-Simons}$ sound action . Dislocations induce Majorana zero modes inside the sample, resulting in a new Hamiltonian which couple the Majorana modes, the electron field and the non-Abelian strain field sound. This Hamiltonian is used to compute the anomalous sound absorption. The Topological superconductor absorbs sound below the superconducting gap due to the transition between the quasi particles and the Majorana fermions. The sound waves offers…
We consider the ground state configurations of the Josephson vortex lattice in layered superconductors. Due to commensurability effects with the layered structure, the lattice has multiple configurations, both aligned with layers and rotated at finite angle. At low fields the lattice switches between these configurations via first-order phase transitions. These transitions become more frequent at smaller fields. With increasing magnetic field a dilute lattice transforms first into a sheared dense lattice. With further increase of field, the shear deformation smoothly vanishes at a second-order…
The dynamical mean-field theory of the three-band model of copper-oxide superconductors is used to calculate the doping dependence of the intensity of the oxygen K-edge x-ray absorption spectra of high-$T_c$ copper oxide superconductors. The model is found not to reproduce the results of a recent experiment, suggesting that at sufficiently high doping the physics beyond the conventional three-band model becomes important.
The experimental research of the longitudinal ultrasound absorption in an intermediate state of the high pure Ga single crystal at the frequencies of 30 - 130 MHz at the temperatures of 0.4 - 0.5 K, using the impulse method, is completed. The new effects in the absorption of ultrasound in an intermediate state of the high pure type I superconductor are discovered. The giant oscillations in the dependence of the ultrasound absorption on the magnetic field at the magnitudes below the critical magnetic field, H < Hc, in an intermediate state of the high pure Ga single crystal are experimentally o…
Magnetic field dependent modulated microwave absorption (MMWA) measurements have been carried out to investigate vortex pinning effects in single crystals of the iron-based high-Tc superconductor Ba(Fe_{1-x}Co_x)_2As_2 with three different cobalt doping levels of x = 0.07, 0.09, and 0.11. The dependence of the MMWA hysteresis loops on temperature, magnetic field, and Co-concentration have been measured and analyzed using a theoretical model of microwave absorption in superconductors. The analysis reveals that in an underdoped crystal (x = 0.07) the so called \dtc-pinning due to magnetically or…
A light-beam-assisted temperature-control system operating within a temperature range from 77 to 180 K is developed for investigating the absorption of electromagnetic waves by high-temperature superconductors in the vicinity of superconducting transition with an ESR spectrometer. The advantage of this system is the feasibility of modulating the temperature of a sample with a frequency of 80 Hz and amplitude of 0.01 -0.1 K. The rms temperature instability over a 5-min time interval is within 0.06 K, the temperature gradient in a sample is 0.01 K/mm for T=90 K, and the system relaxation time is…
We report the temperature variation of the $^{119}$Sn-Mössbauer spectra of the antiperovskite (inverse perovskite) oxide superconductor Sr$_{3-x}$SnO. Both superconductive (Sr-deficient) and non-superconductive (nearly stoichiometric) samples exhibit major $γ$-ray absorption with isomer shift similar to that of Mg$_2$Sn. This fact shows that Sr$_{3-x}$SnO contains the metallic anion Sn$^{4-}$, which is rare especially among oxides. In both samples, we observed another $γ$-ray absorption with a larger isomer shift, indicating that there is another ionic state of Sn with a higher oxidation numbe…
The effect of Ru substitution on the local structure of layered SmFe$_{1-x}$Ru$_x$AsO$_{0.85}$F$_{0.15}$ superconductor has been studied by As $K$- and Sm $L_3$ - edges x-ray-absorption spectroscopy. The extended x-ray-absorption fine-structure measurements reveal distinct Fe-As and Ru-As bondlengths in the Ru substituted samples with the latter being $\sim$0.03 Å longer. Local disorder induced by the Ru substitution is mainly confined to the FeAs layer while the SmO spacer layer sustains a relative order, consistent with the x-ray-absorption near-edge structure spectra. The results suggest th…
We calculate the dc Josephson current for two superconductor-ferromagnet (S/F) bilayers separated by a thin insulating film. It is demonstrated that the critical Josephson current $I_{c}$ in the junction strongly depends on the relative orientation of the effective exchange field $h$ of the bilayers. We found that in the case of an antiparallel orientation, $I_{c}$ increases at low temperatures with increasing $h$ and at zero temperature has a singularity when $h$ equals the superconducting gap $Δ$. This striking behavior contrasts suppression of the critical current by the magnetic moments al…
A thin flat superconductor of arbitrary shape and with arbitrary in-plane and out-of-plane anisotropy of flux-line pinning is considered, in an external magnetic field normal to its plane. It is shown that the general three-dimensional critical state problem for this superconductor reduces to the two-dimensional problem of an infinitely thin sample of the same shape but with a modified induction dependence of the critical sheet current. The methods of solving the latter problem are well known. This finding thus enables one to study the critical states in realistic samples of high-Tc supercondu…
Within the stripe quantum critical point scenario for high $T_c$ superconductors, we point out the possible direct contribution of charge collective fluctuations to the optical absorption and to the d.c. resistivity.
We present transport measurements along the least conducting c direction of the organic superconductor (TMTSF)2ClO4, performed under an accurately aligned magnetic field in the low temperature regime. The experimental results reveal a two-dimensional confinement of the carriers in the (a,b) planes which is governed by the magnetic field component along the b' direction. This 2-D confinement is accompanied by a metal-insulator transition for the c axis resistivity. These data are supported by a quantum mechanical calculation of the transverse transport taking into account in self consistent tre…
We report a detailed study of the vortex dynamics and vortex phase diagrams of two amorphous Ta_0.3Ge_0.7/Ge multilayered films with intrinsic coplanar defects, but different interlayer coupling. A pinned Bose-glass phase in the more weakly coupled sample exists only below a cross-over field H* in striking contrast to the strongly coupled film. Above H* the flux lines are thought to break up into pancake vortices and the cross-over field is significantly increased when the field is aligned along the extended defects. The two films show different vortex creep excitations in the Bose-glass phase…
We study the vortex state in a magnetic field parallel to the $c$ axis in the framework of the extended Ginzburg Landau equation. We find the vortex acquires a fourfold modulation proportional to $\cos(4ϕ)$ where $ϕ$ is the angle ${\bf r}$ makes with the $a$-axis. This term gives rise to an attractive interaction between two vortices when they are aligned parallel to $(1,1,0)$ or $(1,-1,0)$. We predict the first order vortex lattice transition at $B=H_{cr}\sim κ^{-1} H_{c2}(t)$ from triangular into the square lattice tilted by $45^\circ$ from the $a$ axis. This gives the critical field $H_{cr}…
We explore in detail the angular dependent vortex dynamics in type II superconductors with aligned columnar defects introduced by irradiation with very energetic heavy-ions. We use dc magnetization measurements deep in the vortex solid phase, and ac susceptibility near the solid-liquid transition. We show that aligned columnar defects are an excellent tool to test models for vortex dynamics, particularly if they are tilted with respect to the crystallographic axes, so their effects can be easily distinguished from those arising from mass anisotropy, sample geometry, twin boundaries and intrins…
