Thin films of the iron-based superconductor BaFe2(As1-xPx)2 (Ba122:P) were fabricated on polycrystalline metal-tape substrates with two kinds of in-plane grain boundary alignments (well aligned (4 deg.) and poorly aligned (8 deg.)) by pulsed laser deposition. The poorly aligned substrate is not applicable to cuprate-coated conductors because the in-plane alignment >4 deg. results in exponential decay of the critical current density (Jc). The Ba122:P film exhibited higher Jc at 4 K when grown on the poorly aligned substrate than on the well-aligned substrate even though the crystallinity was poorer. It was revealed that the misorientation angles of the poorly aligned samples were less than 6 deg., which are less than the critical angle of an iron-based superconductor, cobalt-doped BaFe2As2 (~9 deg.), and the observed strong pinning in the Ba122:P is attributed to the high-density grain boundaries with the misorientation angles smaller than the critical angle. This result reveals a distinct advantage over cuprate-coated conductors because well-aligned metal-tape substrates are not necessary for practical applications of the iron-based superconductors.
DC superconducting quantum interference devices (dc-SQUIDs) were fabricated in Co-doped BaFe2As2 epitaxial films on (La, Sr)(Al, Ta)O3 bicrystal substrates with 30deg misorientation angles. The 18 x 8 micro-meter^2 SQUID loop with an estimated inductance of 13 pH contained two 3 micro-meter wide grain boundary junctions. The voltage-flux characteristics clearly exhibited periodic modulations with deltaV = 1.4 micro-volt at 14 K, while the intrinsic flux noise of dc-SQUIDs was 7.8 x 10^-5 fai0/Hz^1/2 above 20 Hz. The rather high flux noise is mainly attributed to the small voltage modulation de…
We observe a zero-bias conductance peak (ZBCP) in the ab-plane quasiparticle tunneling spectra of thin film grain-boundary Josephson junctions made of the electron doped cuprate superconductor LaCeCuO. An applied magnetic field reduces the spectral weight around zero energy and shifts it non-linearly to higher energies consistent with a Doppler shift of the Andreev bound states (ABS) energy. For all magnetic fields the ZBCP appears simultaneously with the onset of superconductivity. These observations strongly suggest that the ZBCP results from the formation of ABS at the junction interfaces, …
Grain boundary bicrystal Josephson junctions of the electron-doped infinite-layer superconductor Sr$_{1-x}$La$_x$CuO$_2$ ($x = 0.15$) were grown by pulsed laser deposition. BaTiO$_3$-buffered $24\,^\circ$ [001]-tilt symmetric SrTiO$_3$ bicrystals were used as substrates. We examined both Cooper pair (CP) and quasiparticle (QP) tunneling by electric transport measurements at temperatures down to 4.2\,K. CP tunneling revealed an extraordinary high critical current density for electron-doped cuprates of $j_c > 10^3\,$A/cm$^2$ at 4.2\,K. Thermally activated phase slippage was observed as dissipati…
Among the many remarkable properties of diamond, the ability to superconduct when heavily doped with boron has attracted much interest in the carbon community. When considering the nanocrystalline boron doped system, the reduced dimensionality and confinement effects have led to several intriguing observations most notably, signatures of a mixed superconducting phase. Here we present ultra-high-resolution transmission electron microscopy imaging of the grain boundary and demonstrate how the complex microstructure leads to enhanced carrier correlations. We observe hallmark features of spin-orbi…
We calculate the critical current $I_c$ across in-plane (001) tilt grain boundary junctions of high temperature superconductors. We solve for the electronic states corresponding to the electron-doped cuprates, two slightly different hole-doped cuprates, and an extremely underdoped hole-doped cuprate in each half-space, and weakly connect the two half-spaces by either specular or random quasiparticle tunneling. We treat symmetric, straight, and fully asymmetric junctions with s-, extended-s-, or d$_{x^2-y^2}$-wave order parameters. For symmetric junctions with random grain boundary tunneling, o…
Scanning tunneling spectroscopies are performed below 100~mK on nano-crystalline boron-doped diamond films characterized by Transmission Electron Microscopy and transport measurements. We demonstrate a strong correlation between the local superconductivity strength and the granular structure of the films. The study of the spectral shape, amplitude and temperature dependence of the superconductivity gap enables us to differentiate intrinsically superconducting grains that follow the BCS model, from grains showing a different behavior involving the superconducting proximity effect.
Molecular beam epitaxy of K-doped Ba122 (Ba$_{1-x}$K$_x$Fe$_\text{2}$As$_\text{2}$) superconductor was realized on a MgO substrate. Microstructural observation revealed that the undoped Ba122 served as a perfect buffer layer for epitaxial growth of the K-doped Ba122. The film exhibited a high critical temperature of 39.8 K and a high critical current density of 3.9 MA/cm$^\text{2}$ at 4 K. The successful growth of epitaxial thin film will enable artificial single grain boundary on oxide bicrystal substrates and reveal the grain boundary transport nature of K-doped Ba122.
The most effective way to enhance the dissipation-free supercurrent in presence of magnetic field for type II superconductors is the introduction of defects that acts as artificial pinning centres (APCs) for the vortices. For instance, the in-field critical current density of doped BaFe2As2 (Ba122), one of the most technologically important Fe-based superconductors, has been improved over the last decade by APCs created by ion-irradiation. The technique of ion-irradiation has been commonly implemented to determine the ultimate superconducting properties. However, this method is rather complica…
AC magnetic susceptibilities of electron-doped Pr_{1.85}Ce_{0.15}CuO_4 (PCCO) and Sm_{1.85}Ce_{0.15}CuO_4 (SCCO) granular thin films have been measured as a function of temperature and magnetic-field strength. Depending on the level of homogeneity of our films, two different types of the irreversibility line (IL) defined as the intergrain-loss peak temperature in the imaginary part of susceptibility have been found. The obtained results are described via the critical-state model taking into account the low-field grain-boundary pinning. The extracted pinning-force densities in more granular SCC…
We have studied the electric transport properties of symmetrical [001] tilt NdCeCuO bicrystal grain boundary Josephson junctions (GBJs) fabricated on SrTiO bicrystal substrates with misorientation angles of 24 and 36.8 degree. The superconducting properties of the NdCeCuO-GBJs are similar to those of GBJs fabricated from the hole doped high temperature superconductors (HTS). The critical current density Jc decreases strongly with increasing misorientation angle. The products of the critical current Ic and the normal resistance Rn (about 0.1 mV at 4.2 K) are small compared to the gap voltage an…
Ac susceptibility and static magnetization measurements were performed in the optimally doped SmFeAsO$_{0.8}$F$_{0.2}$ superconductor. The field - temperature phase diagram of the superconducting state was drawn and, in particular, the features of the flux line lattice derived. The dependence of the intra-grain depinning energy on the magnetic field intensity was derived in the thermally-activated flux creep framework, enlightening a typical 1/H dependence in the high-field regime. The intra-grain critical current density was extrapolated in the zero temperature and zero magnetic field limit, …
By doping MgB_2 superconductor with SiC nano-particles, we have successfully introduced pinning sites directly into the crystal lattice of MgB_2 grains (intra-grain pinning). It became possible due to the combination of counter-balanced Si and C co-substitution for B, leading to a large number of intra-granular dislocations and the dispersed nano-size impurities induced by the substitution. The magnetic field dependence of the critical current density was significantly improved in a wide temperature range, whereas the transition temperature in the sample MgB_2(SiC)_x having x = 0.34, the highe…
Superconducting cuprates and pnictides composed of CuO2 or AsFe planes respectively with intercalated insulating layers, are at the crossroads of three families of crystalline solids: metals, doped Mott insulators, and ferroelectrics. In the latter atomic displacements play a key role. Both the metallic and the doped insulator approaches to high temperature superconductivity are essentially electronic ones and do not directly involve the lattice. By contrast, in a recently proposed Bond Contraction Pairing (BCP) model, contraction of in-plane Cu-O (or As-Fe) bonds plays an essential role in th…
Magnesium diboride (MgB2) powder was mechanically alloyed by high energy ball milling with C to a composition of Mg(B0.95C0.05)2 and then sintered at 1000 C in a hot isostatic press. Milling times varied from 1 minute to 3000 minutes. Full C incorporation required only 30-60 min of milling. Grain size of sintered samples decreased with increased milling time to less than 30 nm for 20-50 hrs of milling. Milling had a weak detrimental effect on connectivity. Strong irreversibility field (H*) increase (from 13.3 T to 17.2 T at 4.2 K) due to increased milling time was observed and correlated linea…
\begin{abstract} We have studied magnetic properties of water-quenched 5 wt.% (Fe, Ti) particle-doped MgB$_2$ comparing with that of air-cooled one. Generally, grain refinement is achieved by increasing cooling rate, which implies an increase of grainboundaries in the superconductor. Here we show that increased grainboundaries influence what kinds of effects on the field dependence of magnetization and what is the mechanism. As a result, they are served as a pinning center at a high field whereas they are served as a pathway to facilitate the movement of fluxes pinned on volume defects at a lo…
Understanding what makes Bi$_2$Sr$_2$Ca$_1$Cu$_2$O$_x$ (Bi-2212) the only high critical current density ($J_c$), high temperature superconductor (HTS) capable of being made as a round wire (RW) is important intellectually because high $J_c$ RW Bi-2212 breaks the paradigm that forces biaxially textured REBCO and uniaxially textured (Bi,Pb)$_2$Sr$_2$Ca$_2$Cu$_3$O$_x$ (Bi-2223) into tape geometries that reproduce the strong anisotropy of the native crystal structure and force expensive fabrication routes to ensure the best possible texture with minimum density of high angle grain boundaries. The …
The K- and Co-doped BaFe2As2 (Ba-122) superconducting compounds are potentially useful for applications because they have upper critical fields (Hc2) of well over 50 T, Hc2 anisotropy Gamma < 2, and thin film critical current densities exceeding 1 MAcm-2 at 4.2 K. However, thin-film bicrystals of Co-doped Ba-122 clearly exhibit weak link behavior for [001] tilt misorientations of more than about 5 degrees, suggesting that textured substrates would be needed for applications, as in the cuprates. Here we present a contrary and very much more positive result in which untextured polycrystalline (B…
Josephson junctions were fabricated in epitaxial films of cobalt-doped BaFe2As2 on [001]-tilt (La,Sr)(Al,Ta)O3 bicrystal substrates. 10m-wide microbridges spanning a 30-degrees-tilted bicrystal grain boundary (BGB bridge) exhibited resistively-shunted-junction (RSJ)-like current-voltage characteristics up to 17 K, and the critical current was suppressed remarkably by a magnetic field. Microbridges without a BGB did not show the RSJ-like behavior, and their critical current densities were 20 times larger than those of BGB bridges, confirming BGB bridges display a Josephson effect originating fr…
High temperature (high-Tc) superconductors like cuprates have superior critical current properties in magnetic fields over other superconductors. However, superconducting wires for high-field-magnet applications are still dominated by low-Tc Nb3Sn due probably to cost and processing issues. The recent discovery of a second class of high-Tc materials, Fe-based superconductors, may provide another option for high-field-magnet wires. In particular, AEFe2As2 (AE: Alkali earth elements, AE-122) is one of the best candidates for high-field-magnet applications because of its high upper critical field…
Co-doped BaFe2As2 (Ba-122) can be realized on both MgO and SrTiO3 bicrystal substrates with [001]-tilt grain boundary by employing Fe buffer layers. However, an additional spinel (i.e. MgAl2O4) buffer between Fe and SrTiO3 is necessary since an epitaxial, smooth surface of Fe layer can not be grown on bare SrTiO3. Both types of bicrystal films show good crystalline quality.
The occurrence of the Berezinskii-Kosterlitz-Thouless (BKT) transition is investigated in heavily boron-doped nanocrystalline diamond films through a combination of current-voltage and resistance measurements. We observe a robust BKT transition in the nanocrystalline diamond films with smaller grain size along with transport features related to vortex pinning. The vortex core energy determined through analysis of the resistance temperature curves was found to be anti-correlated to the BKT transition temperatures. It is also observed that the higher BKT temperature is related to an increased vo…
Doping effect of diamond nanoparticles on the superconducting properties of MgB2 bulk material has been studied. It is found that the superconducting transition temperature Tc of MgB2 is suppressed by the diamond-doping, however, the irreversibility field Hirr and the critical current density Jc are systematically enhanced. Microstructural analysis shows that the diamond-doped MgB2 superconductor consists of tightly-packed MgB2 nano-grains (~50-100 nm) with highly-dispersed and uniformly-distributed diamond nanoparticles (~10-20 nm) inside the grains. High density of dislocations and diamond n…
Grain boundaries (GBs) of YBa2Cu3Oy (YBCO) are preferentially doped with Ag by the solid-state diffusion method. The distribution of Ag is highly localized in the GB. As a result of the Ag doping, the Jc-H behavior of YBCO textured polycrystalline samples is significantly improved, and at 60 K and 7 T, Jc is tripled. It is proposed that Ag could partially replace the Cu in CuO2 planes near GBs, therefore reducing the geometric distortion of Cu-O bonds and making the effective GBs thinner.
We used angle resolved photoemission spectroscopy and thermoelectric power to study the poorly explored, highly overdoped side of the phase diagram of Ba(Fe1-xCox)2As2 high temperature superconductor. Our data demonstrate that several Lifshitz transitions - topological changes of the Fermi surface - occur for large x. Tc starts to decrease with doping when the cylindrical, central hole pocket changes to ellipsoids centering at the Z point, and goes to zero before these ellipsoids disappear around x = 0.2. Changes in thermoelectric power occur at similar x-values. Beyond this doping level the c…
Strong correlations are known to severely reduce the mobility of charge carriers near half-filling and thus have an important influence on the current carrying properties of grain boundaries in the high-$T_c$ cuprates. In this work we present an extension of the Gutzwiller projection approach to treat electronic correlations below as well as above half-filling consistently. We apply this method to investigate the critical current through grain boundaries with a wide range of misalignment angles for electron- and hole-doped systems. For the latter excellent agreement with experimental data is f…
We report DC isothermal magnetization, global critical current density (JC), Intra-grain critical current density (JCintra) and resistive upper critical field (Bc2) of polycrystalline Y1-xCaxBa2Cu3O7-δ (YBCO); x = 0.00, 0.05, 0.10, 0.15, 0.20 and 0.25. Ca doping at Y sites in YBCO superconductor results in flux pinning property, which can enhance the critical current density and upper critical fields. JC and JCintra are experimentally calculated through DC isothermal magnetization measurement (M-H), employing the well known Bean's critical model. It is observed that both type of current densit…
Superconducting transport properties of granular materials are greatly influenced by the microstructure. We show that in heavily boron-doped diamond films (HBDDF) films some sharp transport features can be manipulated by applying a magnetic field and controlled finite bias current. We demonstrate the conductivity cross-over from dirty metal to the superconducting state through an insulating peak arising at a very low current or magnetic field region and particularly pronounced negative magnetoresistance with periodic oscillatory features. The current-voltage characteristics show features of th…
We report on the growth of NdFeAs(O,F) thin films on [001]-tilt MgO bicrystal substrates with misorientation angle theta_GB=6°, 12°, 24° and 45°, and their inter- and intra-grain transport properties. X-ray diffraction study confirmed that all our NdFeAs(O,F) films are epitaxially grown on the MgO bicrystals. The theta_GB dependence of the inter-grain critical current density Jc shows that, unlike Co-doped BaFe2As2 and Fe(Se,Te), its decay with theta_GB is rather significant. As a possible reason of this result, fluorine may have diffused preferentially to the grain boundary region and eroded …
High temperature superconductivity in cuprates arises from an electronic state that remains poorly understood. We report the observation of a related electronic state in a non-cuprate material Sr2IrO4 in which the unique cuprate Fermiology is largely reproduced. Upon surface electron doping through in situ deposition of alkali-metal atoms, angle-resolved photoemission spectra of Sr2IrO4 display disconnected segments of zero-energy states, known as Fermi arcs, and a gap as large as 80 meV. Its evolution toward a normal metal phase with a closed Fermi surface as a function of doping and temperat…
We perform a detailed calculation of the various contributions to the fluctuation conductivity of a granular metal close to its superconducting transition. We find three distinct regions of power law behavior in reduced temperature, $η=(T-T_c)/T_c$, with crossovers at $Γ/T_c$ and $E_{Th}/T_c$, where $Γ$ is the electron tunneling rate, and $E_{Th}$ is the Thouless energy of a grain. The calculation includes both intergrain and intragrain degrees of freedom. This complete theory of the fluctuation region in granular superconductors is then compared to experimental results from boron-doped nanocr…
The superconductor Sn_{1-x}In_{x}Te is a doped topological crystalline insulator and has become important as a candidate topological superconductor, but its superconducting phase diagram is poorly understood. By measuring about 50 samples of high-quality, vapor-grown single crystals, we found that the dependence of the superconducting transition temperature Tc on the In content x presents a qualitative change across the critical doping xc ~ 3.8%, at which a structural phase transition takes place. Intriguingly, in the ferroelectric rhombohedral phase below the critical doping, Tc is found to b…
High critical temperature superconductors have zero power consumption and could be used to produce ideal electric power lines. The principal obstacle in fabricating superconducting wires and tapes is grain boundaries-the misalignment of crystalline orientations at grain boundaries, which is unavoidable for polycrystals, largely deteriorates critical current density. Here, we report that High critical temperature iron pnictide superconductors have advantages over cuprates with respect to these grain boundary issues. The transport properties through well-defined bicrystal grain boundary junction…
Low-angle grain boundaries with misorientation angles theta < 5 degrees in optimally doped thin films of YBCO are investigated by magnetooptical imaging. By using a numerical inversion scheme of Biot-Savart's law the critical current density across the grain boundary can be determined with a spatial resolution of about 5 micrometers. Detailed investigation of the spatially resolved flux density and current density data shows that the current density across the boundary varies with varying local flux density. Combining the corresponding flux and current pattern it is found that there exists a u…
We have investigated the influence of the superconducting layer thickness, d, on the structural and transport properties of Co-doped BaFe2As2 films deposited on Fe-buffered MgO substrates by pulsed laser deposition. The superconducting transition temperature and the texture quality of Co-doped BaFe2As2 films improve with increasing d due to a gradual relief of the tensile strain. For d>90 nm an additional 110 textured component of Co-doped BaFe2As2 was observed, which leads to an upward shift in the angular dependent critical current density at H // c. These results indicate that the grain bou…
Nanocarbon-doped Fe-sheathed MgB2 tapes with different doping levels were prepared by the in situ powder-in-tube method. Compared to the undoped tapes, Jc for all the C-doped samples was enhanced by more than an order of magnitude in magnetic fields above 9 T. At 4.2 K, the transport Jc for the 5 at% doped tapes reached 1.85x104 A/cm2 at 10 T and 2.8x103 A/cm2 at 14 T, respectively. Moreover, the critical temperature for the doped tapes decreased slightly. Transmission electron microscopy showed a number of intra-granular dislocations and the dispersed nanoparticles embedded within MgB2 grains…
Magnetic field of up to 12 T was applied during the sintering process of pure MgB2 and carbon nanotube (CNT) doped MgB2 wires. We have demonstrated that magnetic field processing results in grain refinement, homogeneity and significant enhancement in Jc(H) and Hirr. The Jc of pure MgB2 wire increased by up to a factor of 3 to 4 and CNT doped MgB2 by up to an order of magnitude in high field region respectively, compared to that of the non-field processed samples. Hirr for CNT doped sample reached 7.7 T at 20 K. Magnetic field processing reduces the resistivity in CNT doped MgB2, straightens th…
We have studied structural and superconducting properties of MgB2 thin films doped with carbon during the hybrid physical-chemical vapor deposition process. A carbon-containing metalorganic precursor bis(cyclopentadienyl)magnesium was added to the carrier gas to achieve carbon doping. As the amount of carbon in the films increases, the resistivity increases, Tc decreases, and the upper critical field increases dramatically as compared to the clean films. The self-field Jc in the carbon-doped films is lower than that in the clean films, but Jc remains relatively high to much higher magnetic fie…
Microstructura lly clean, isov alently P-doped BaFe2As2 (Ba-122) single crystalline thin films have been prepared on MgO (001) substrates by molecular beam epitaxy. These films show a superconducting transition temperature (Tc) of over 30 K although P content is around 0.22, which is lower than the optimal one for single crystals (i.e., 0.33). The enhanced Tc at this doping level is attributed to the in-plane tensile strain. The strained film shows high transport self-field critical current densities (Jc) of over 6 MA/cm2 at 4.2 K, which are among the highest for Fe based superconductors (FeSC…
Spin-resonance modes (SRM) are taken as evidence for magnetically driven pairing in Fe-based superconductors, but their character remains poorly understood. The broadness, the splitting and the spin-space anisotropies of SRMs contrast with the mostly accepted interpretation as spin excitons. We study hole-doped Ba$_{1-x}$Na$_x$Fe$_2$As$_2$ that displays a spin reorientation transition. This reorientation has little impact on the overall appearance of the resonance excitations with a high-energy isotropic and a low-energy anisotropic mode. However, the strength of the anisotropic low-energy mod…
We report the impact of silver addition on granularity of NdFeAsO0.8F0.2 superconductor. The ac susceptibility and electrical resistivity under magnetic field are measured to study the improvement in weak links of NdFeAsO0.8F0.2 with addition of Ag. The Ag free NdFeAsO0.8F0.2 compound shows superconductivity at around 51.8K. Typical two step superconducting transitions due to the inter and intra grain contributions, induced from the combined effect of superconducting grains and the inter-granular weak-coupled medium respectively are clearly seen in susceptibility plots. In comparison to the pu…
Highly textured NdFeAs(O,F) thin films have been grown on ion beam assisted deposition (IBAD)-MgO/Y2O3/Hastelloy substrates by molecular beam epitaxy. The oxypnictide coated conductors showed a superconducting transition temperature (Tc) of 43 K with a self-field critical current density (Jc) of 7.0 x 104 A/cm2 at 5 K, more than 20 times higher than powder-in-tube processed SmFeAs(O,F) wires. Albeit higher Tc as well as better crystalline quality than Co-doped BaFe2As2 coated conductors, in-field Jc of NdFeAs(O,F) was lower than that of Co-doped BaFe2As2. These results suggest that grain bound…
For more than 30 years, the remarkable superconducting properties of REBa$_\textrm{2}$Cu$_\textrm{3}$O$_\textrm{7-x}$ (RE = rare earth) compounds have triggered research studies across the world. Accordingly, significant progresses have been made both from a basic understanding and a fabrication processes perspective. Yet, today, the major technological bottleneck towards the spread of their practical uses remains the exponential decay of their critical current with grain misorientation in polycrystalline samples. In this work, we used an ionic liquid to apply extremely high transverse electri…
To investigate the properties of iron-based superconductors, we examined different kinds of Josephson junctions using Co-doped Ba-122 thin films. Based on bicrystalline SrTiO3 substrates we prepared grain boundary (GB) junctions, which showed clear Josephson effects. We present electrical measurements at varying temperatures and magnetic fields. Furthermore, we prepared hybrid junctions using thin film technique. Confined by a Ba-122 base electrode (S) and a PbIn counter electrode (S') two different geometries of hybrid junctions are formed: a planar SNS' junction with a gold barrier (N) in be…
Ac susceptibility and static magnetization measurements were performed in the nearly-optimally doped LaFeAsO$_{0.9}$F$_{0.1}$ and CeFeAsO$_{0.92}$F$_{0.08}$ superconductors, complementing earlier results on SmFeAsO$_{0.8}$F$_{0.2}$ [Phys. Rev. {\bf B 83}, 174514 (2011)]. The magnetic field -- temperature phase diagram of the mixed superconducting state is drawn for the three materials, displaying a sizeable reduction of the liquid phase upon increasing $T_{c}$ in the range of applied fields ($H \leq 5$ T). This result indicates that SmFeAsO$_{0.8}$F$_{0.2}$ is the most interesting compound amo…
Processing methods are described for the development of magnesium diboride wire using the chemical vapor deposition (CVD) to produce long lengths of suitably doped starting boron fiber. It is found that titanium can be co-deposited with the boron to make long lengths of doped fiber that contain both TiB and TiB2. When this fiber is reacted in Mg vapor to transform boron into MgB2, the resulting conductor has a superconducting critical current density of about 5 times 10^6 A/cm^2 at 5K and self field. The critical current density at 25K and 1 Tesla is 10,000 A/cm^2. Using optical methods to def…
The nano-SiC doped MgB2/Fe wires were fabricated using a powder-in-tube method and an in-situ reaction process. The depression of Tc with increasing SiC doping level remained rather small due to the counterbalanced effect of Si and C co-doping. The high level SiC co-doping allowed creation of the intra-grain defects and nano-inclusions, which act as effective pinning centers, resulting in a substantial enhancement in the Jc(H) performance. The transport Jc for all the wires is comparable to the magnetic Jc at higher fields despite the low density of the samples and percolative nature of curren…
We report the synthesis and characterization of graphite (C) doped MgB2-xCx (x = 0.0, 0.1, 0.2 and 0.3) samples. The crystal structure and microstructural characterization have been investigated by x-ray diffractometer and transmission electron microscopic (TEM) analysis. The superconducting properties especially Jc and Hc2 have been measured by employing physical property measurement system. We found that the graphite doping affects the lattice parameters as well as the microstructure of MgB2 superconductor. In case of optimally doped (x=0.1) sample, the critical current density at 5K corresp…
Understanding new superconductors requires high-quality epitaxial thin films to explore intrinsic electromagnetic properties, control grain boundaries and strain effects, and evaluate device applications. So far superconducting properties of ferropnictide thin films appear compromised by imperfect epitaxial growth and poor connectivity of the superconducting phase. Here we report novel template engineering using single-crystal intermediate layers of (001) SrTiO3 and BaTiO3 grown on various perovskite substrates that enables genuine epitaxial films of Co-doped BaFe2As2 with high transition temp…
