An analytic computation is given of the generation of Yukawa couplings and of the quark, charged lepton and neutrino masses in the framework of an SO(10) model with a unified Higgs sector consisting of a single pair of vector-spinor $144 + \overline{144}$ of Higgs multiplets. This unified Higgs sector allows for a breaking of SO(10) to the gauge group $SU(3)\times SU(2)_L \times U(1)_Y$ and contains light Higgs doublets allowing for the breaking of the electroweak symmetry. Fermion mass generation in this model typically arises from quartic couplings $16\cdot 16\cdot 144\cdot 144$ and $16\cdot 16\cdot \overline{144}\cdot \overline{144}$. Extending a previous work it is shown that much larger third generation masses can arise for all the fermions from mixing with 45 and 120 matter multiplets via the cubic couplings $16\cdot45\cdot\overline{144}$ and $16\cdot120\cdot144$. Further it is found that values of $\tanβ$ as low as 10 can allow for a $b-τ-t$ unification consistent with current data. The quartic and cubic couplings naturally lead to Dirac as well as Majorana neutrino masses necessary for the generation of See Saw neutrino masses.
In the so-called yukawaon model, where effective Yukawa coupling constants Y_f^{eff} (f=e,ν,u,d) are given by vacuum expectation values of gauge singlet scalars (yukawaons) Y_f with 3\times 3 flavor components, it is tried to give a unified description of quark and lepton mass matrices. Especially, without assuming any discrete symmetry in the lepton sector, nearly tribimaximal mixing is derived by assumed a simple up-quark mass matrix form.
In the so-called "yukawaon" model, the (effective) Yukawa coupling constants $Y_f^{eff}$ are given by vacuum expectation values (VEVs) of scalars $Y_f$ (yukawaons) with $3\times 3$ components. So far, yukawaons $Y_f$ have been assigned to ${\bf 6}$ or ${\bf 6}^*$ of U(3) family symmetry, so that quarks and leptons were not anomaly free in U(3). In this paper, yukawaons are assigned to ${\bf 8}+{\bf 1}$ of U(3), so that quarks and leptons are anomaly free. Since VEV relations among yukawaons are also considerably changed, parameter fitting of the model is renewed. After fixing our free paramete…
According to an idea that effective Yukawa coupling constants Y_f^{eff} are given vacuum expectation values < Y_f> of fields ("Yukawaons") Y_f as Y_f^{eff}=y_f < Y_f>/Λ, a possible superpotential form in the charged lepton sector under a U(3) [or O(3)] flavor symmetry is investigated. It is found that a specific form of the superpotential can lead to an empirical charged lepton mass relation without any adjustable parameters.
To address fermion mass hierarchy and flavor mixings in the quark and lepton sectors, a minimal flavor structure without any redundant parameters beyond phenomenological observables is proposed via decomposition of the Standard Model Yukawa mass matrix into a bi-unitary form. After reviewing the roles and parameterization of the factorized matrix ${\bf M}_0^f$ and ${\bf F}_L^f$ in fermion masses and mixings, we generalize the mechanism to up- and down-type fermions to unify them into a universal quark/lepton Yukawa interaction. In the same way, a unified form of the description of the quark an…
We study leptonic CKM mixing matrices when the neutrino Yukawa matrices are antisymmetric which gives rise to mass patterns suitable to explain solar, atmospheric and LSND neutrino oscillation experiments. Taking diagonal leptonic matrices which can give rise to hierarchical lepton masses, we compute the leptonic CKM matrix.
We investigate a model that the Yukawa coupling form is constructed by two kinds of matrix (M_0 and M_1). For example, in the SO(10) GUT model, M_0 and M_1 are Yukawa couplings generated by the 10 and 126 Higgs scalars. We study how this model can give the observed mass and mixings of quarks and leptons. Parameter fitting is fully scanned by assuming all the input data to be normally distributed around the center value.
We propose new predictions from Grand Unified Theories (GUTs) (applicable to both supersymmetric (SUSY) and non-SUSY models) for the ratios of quark and lepton Yukawa couplings. These new predictions arise from splitting the masses of the messenger fields for the GUT scale Yukawa operators by Clebsch-Gordan factors from GUT symmetry breaking. This has the effect that these factors enter inversely in the predicted quark-lepton Yukawa coupling ratios, leading to new possible GUT predictions. We systematically construct the new predictions that can be realised in this way in SU(5) GUTs and Pati-S…
Based on a supersymmetric Yukawaon model with O(3) family symmetry, possible forms of quark and lepton mixing matrices are systematically investigated under a condition that the up-quark mass matrix form leads to the observed nearly tribimaximal mixing in the lepton sector. Although the previous model could not provide a good fitting of the observed quark mixing, the present model can give a reasonably good fitting not for lepton mixing but also the quark mixing by using a different origin of the $CP$ violation from one in the previous model.
We investigate the neutrino masses and mixing patten in a version of the $SU(3)_c\otimes SU(3)_L\otimes U(1)_X$ model with one extra exotic charged lepton per family as introduced by Ozer. It is shown that an extended scalar sector, together with a discrete $Z_2$ symmetry, is able to reproduce a consistent lepton mass spectrum without a hierarchy in the Yukawa coupling constants, the former as a carefull balance between one universal see-saw and two radiative mechanisms.
We analyze the scalar lepton mass matrices in a supersymmetric SO(10) grand unified model with soft SUSY breaking terms generated at Planck scale and a Georgi-Jarslkog Yukawa texture at GUT scale induced by higher dimensional operators. This model predicts lepton flavor violation. The predictive features of the Georgi-Jarlskog texture are used to estimate branching ratios for the radiative decays $e_{a} \rightarrow e_{b}+γ,$ and we find rates that could provide an experimental test for this kind of model.
We present a new constraint on a lepton mixing matrix $V$ from lepton-flavor violating (LFV) processes in supersymmetric standard models with massive neutrinos. Here, we assume Yukawa-coupling unification $f_{ν3}\simeq f_{\rm top}$, in which $τ$-neutrino Yukawa coupling $f_{ν3}$ is unified into top-quark Yukawa coupling $f_{\rm top}$ at the unification scale $M_*\simeq 3\times 10^{16}$ GeV. We show that the present experimental bound on $μ\to e γ$ decay already gives a stringent limit on the lepton mixing (typically $V_{13}<0.02$ for $V_{23}=1/\sqrt{2}$). Therefore, many existing neutrino-mass…
Generally the diagonalization of the mass matrix of the charged leptons is a part of the neutrino UPMNS matrix. However, usually this contribution is ignored by assuming a diagonal mass matrix for charged leptons. In this letter we test this common assumption in the context of neutrino physics. Our analytical and numerical results for two supersymmetric models reveal that such a simplification is not justified. Especially for the solar and reactor mixing angles important modifications are found.
For the purpose of deriving the observed nearly tribimaximal neutrino mixing, a possible yukawaon model in the quark sector is investigated. Five observable quantities (2 up-quark mass ratios and 3 neutrino mixing parameters \sin^2 2θ_{atm}, \tan^2θ_{solar} and |U_{13}|) are excellently fitted by two parameters (one in the up-quark sector and another one in the right-handed Majorana neutrino sector).
We estimate the magnitude of Lepton Flavour Violation (LFV) from the phase of the neutrino Yukawa matrix. In the minimal supersymmetric standard model with right-handed neutrinos, the LFV processes l_i \to l_j γcan appear through the slepton mixing, which comes from the renormalization group effect on the right-handed neutrino Yukawa interaction between the Grand Unified Theory scale and the heavy right-handed neutrino mass scale. Two types of phases exist in the neutrino Yukawa matrix. One is the Majorana phase, which can change the magnitude of the LFV branching ratios by a few factor. The o…
Though models with the radiative neutrino mass generation are phenomenologically attractive, the complicated relationship between the flavour structure of additional Yukawa matrices and the neutrino mass matrix sometimes is a barrier to explore the models. We introduce a simple prescription to analyze the relation in a class of models with the asymmetric Yukawa structure. We then apply the treatment to the Zee-Babu model as a concrete example of the class and discuss the phenomenological consequences of the model. The combined studies among the neutrino physics, the lepton flavour violation, a…
The WMAP dark matter constraints on b-$τ$ Yukawa Unification in the presence of massive neutrinos is revisited. The predictions for the bottom quark mass are observed to be modified by the large neutrino mixing suggested by the data. This enables Yukawa unification also for large $\tanβ$, and for positive $μ$ that were previously disfavoured. Consequently, the allowed parameter space for neutralino dark matter differs from the MSSM one. We also find that the parameter space being compatible with dark matter also predicts detectable rates for Lepton Flavour Violation at the LHC.
To explain the observed muon anomaly and simultaneously evade bounds from lepton flavor violation in the same model parameter space is a long cherished dream. In view of a generalized Two Higgs Doublet Model, with a Yukawa structure as a perturbation of Type-X, we are able to get substantial parameter space satisfying this criteria. We are focusing on a region with "{\bf wrong-sign}" lepton-Yukawa coupling which gives rise to an interesting phenomenological consequences. We found that in the "wrong-sign" region, it is possible to probe the low-mass pseudoscalar in flavor-violating decay mode w…
In a two Higgs doublet model with extra Yukawa couplings, we assess the new physics contributions to charged lepton electric dipole moment. We focus especially on muon (and tau) EDM where in the coming decade several experiments $-$ Muon g-2, J-PARC and PSI (and Belle II) $-$ will push sensitivities down by several orders of magnitude. With the working assumption that extra Yukawa couplings are analogous to SM ones in strength and taking exotic scalar masses in sub-TeV range, we find that $μ$ and $τ$ EDM can be enhanced to values larger than new physics scenarios that scale with lepton mass. T…
We investigate the phenomenological impact of different sources of lepton flavour violation arising from realistic models based on supergravity mediated supersymmetry breaking with Yukawa operators. We discuss four distinct sources of lepton flavour violation in such models: minimum flavour violation, arising from neutrino masses and the see-saw mechanism with RG running; supergravity flavour violation due to the non-universal structure of the supergravity model; flavour violation due to Froggatt-Nielsen (FN) fields appearing in Yukawa operators developing supersymmetry breaking F-terms and co…
We examine contributions from Majorana phases to lepton flavor violating processes in the framework of the minimal supersymmetric standard model with heavy right-handed neutrinos. All phases in the complex neutrino Yukawa matrix are taken into account in our study. We find that in the scenario with universal soft-breaking terms sizable phase effects can appear on the lepton flavor violating processes such as $μ\to e γ$, $τ\to e γ$, and $τ\to μγ$. In particular, the branching ratio of $μ\to e γ$ can be considerably enhanced due to the Majorana phases, so that it can be much greater than that of…
On the basis of a supersymmetric yukawaon model, Sumino's relation for charged lepton masses is re-derived. A relation between values of $K(μ) \equiv (m_e +m_μ+ m_τ)/(\sqrt{m_e} + \sqrt{m_μ} + \sqrt{m_τ})^2$ and $κ(μ) \equiv \sqrt{m_e m_μm_τ}/ (\sqrt{m_e} + \sqrt{m_μ}+ \sqrt{m_τ})^3$ is investigated without using a relation $K=2/3$. Predicted value of $κ(μ)$ is compared with the observed value of $κ(μ)$, and it is concluded that the value $ξ(μ)\equiv (3/2)K(μ) -1$ is of the order of $10^{-3}$ or less.
To explain the observed neutrino masses through the seesaw mechanism, a supersymmetric generalization of the Standard Model should include heavy right-handed neutrino supermultiplets. Then the neutrino Yukawa couplings can induce CP violation in the lepton sector. In this paper, we compute the contribution of these CP violating terms to lepton electric dipole moments. We introduce a new formalism that makes use of supersymmetry to expose the GIM cancellations. In the region of small tan beta, we find a different result from that given previously by Ellis, Hisano, Raidal, and Shimizu. We confir…
A dynamical origin of the Yukawa couplings is a promising scenario to explain the flavour puzzle. The focus of this letter is set on the role of the neutrino Majorana character: when an $O(2)_{N_R}$ flavour symmetry acts on the right-handed neutrino sector, the minimum of the scalar potential allows for large mixing angles -in contrast to the simplest quark case- and predicts a maximal Majorana phase. This leads to a strong correlation between neutrino mass hierarchy and mixing pattern. Realistic solutions point to the existence of three heavy right-handed neutrinos.
We investigate the viability of predictive schemes for quark-lepton Yukawa ratios and nucleon decay in non-supersymmetric SU(5) Grand Unified Theories (GUTs) where neutrino masses are generated by a type II seesaw mechanism. The scalar sector of the considered scenario contains 5-, 24- and 45-dimensional representations plus a 15-dimensional representation for realising the type II seesaw. Predictions for the ratios of the quark and lepton Yukawa couplings emerge when the relevant entries of the Yukawa matrices are generated from single joint GUT operators (i.e. under the condition of "single …
In the type I + II seesaw formula the mass matrix of light neutrinos m_nu receives contributions from the exchanges of both heavy Majorana neutrinos and SU(2)_L-triplet Higgs bosons. We propose a new parameterization for the Dirac-type Yukawa coupling matrix of neutrinos in this case, which generalizes the well known Casas-Ibarra parameterization to type I + II seesaw and is useful when the triplet term in m_nu is known. Neutrino masses and mixing, lepton flavor violation in decays like mu -> e γwithin mSUGRA models and leptogenesis can then be studied within this framework. We illustrate the …
The origin of the matter-antimatter asymmetry in the Universe is a fundamental question of physics. Electroweak baryogenesis is a compelling scenario for explaining it but it requires beyond the Standard Model sources of the CP symmetry violation. The simplest possibility is CP violation in the third generation fermion Higgs couplings, widely investigated theoretically and searched for experimentally. It has been found that the experimental bounds on the CP violation in the quark Yukawa couplings exclude their significant role in the electroweak baryogenesis, but it can be still played by the …
Various lepton-flavor violating (LFV) processes in the supersymmetric standard model with right-handed neutrino supermultiplets are investigated in detail. It is shown that large LFV rates are obtained when $\tan β$ is large. In the case where the mixing matrix in the lepton sector has a similar structure as the Kobayashi-Maskawa matrix and the third-generation Yukawa coupling is as large as that of the top quark, the branching ratios can be as large as $Br(μ\rightarrow eγ)\simeq 10^{-11}$ and $Br(τ\rightarrowμγ)\simeq 10^{-7}$, which are within the reach of future experiments. If we assume a …
The basic features of quark and lepton mass matrices can be successfully explained by natural minima of a generic potential with dynamical Yukawa fields invariant under the $[\mathrm{SU(3)}]^5\times \mathcal{O}(3)$ flavor symmetry. If this symmetry is gauged, in order to avoid potentially dangerous Goldstone bosons, and small perturbations are added to exactly fit the observed pattern of fermion masses, the spectrum of massive flavor gauge bosons can naturally explain the hints for new physics in $b\to s \ell^+\ell^-$ transitions, including $R_K$. In particular, the desired pattern of the Stan…
We discuss lepton flavor violation (LFV) associated with tau leptons in the general framework of the two Higgs doublet model, in which LFV couplings are introduced as a deviation from Model II Yukawa interaction. Parameters of the model are constrained from experimental results and also from requirements of theoretical consistencies such as vacuum stability and perturbative unitarity. Current data for LFV rare tau decays provide substantial upper limits on the LFV Yukawa couplings in the large $\tanβ$ region, which are comparable with predictions in fundamental theories. Here $\tanβ$ is the ra…
By using quark Yukawa matrices only, we can construct renormalization invariants that are exact at the one-loop level in the standard model. One of them $I^q$ is accidentally consistent with unity, even though quark masses are strongly hierarchical. We calculate a lepton version of the invariant $I^l$ for Dirac and Majorana neutrino cases and find that $I^l$ can also be close to unity. For the Dirac neutrino and inverted hierarchy case, if the lightest neutrino mass is 3.0 meV to 8.8 meV, an equality $I^q=I^l$ can be satisfied. These invariants are not changed even if new particles couple to t…
In supersymmetric theories the radiative corrections due to heavy states could leave their footprints in the flavour structure of the supersymmetry breaking masses. We investigate whether present and future searches for the muon and electron EDMs could be sensitive to the CP violation and flavour misalignment induced on slepton masses by the radiative corrections due to the right-handed neutrinos of the seesaw model and to the heavy Higgs triplets of SU(5) GUT. When this is the case, limits on the relevant combination of neutrino Yukawa couplings are obtained. Explicit analytical expressions a…
The electric dipole moments (EDMs) of charged leptons are significantly suppressed in standard model. It has been found previously that they are even more severely suppressed in seesaw type models by powers of tiny neutrino masses as far as a leptonic CP source is concerned. We investigate whether a Majorana-type Yukawa coupling between charged leptons and a doubly charged scalar can contribute significantly to their EDMs. An observable EDM would then help unravel the Majorana nature of neutrinos by a lepton number conserving quantity. We find that the EDMs are indeed parametrically large, of …
The effective-Lagrangian description of Lorentz-invariance violation provided by the so-called Standard-Model Extension covers all the sectors of the Standard Model, allowing for model-independent studies of high-energy phenomena that might leave traces at relatively-low energies. In this context, the quantification of the large set of parameters characterizing Lorentz-violating effects is well motivated. In the present work, effects from the Lorentz-nonconserving Yukawa sector on the electromagnetic moments of charged leptons are calculated, estimated, and discussed. Following a perturbative …
We analyze generalized CP symmetries of two-Higgs doublet models, extending them from the scalar to the fermion sector of the theory. We show that, with a single exception, those symmetries imply massless fermions. The single model which accommodates a fermionic mass spectrum compatible with experimental data possesses a remarkable feature. It displays a new type of spontaneous CP violation, which occurs not in the scalar sector responsible for the symmetry breaking mechanism but, rather, in the fermion sector.
The matter content of the Standard Model admits a global symmetry due to the generational structure of the spectrum respected by all interactions except for fermion couplings to the Higgs doublet. This symmetry is identified as the largest possible global symmetry of the free theory and extended to the case of massive neutrinos. The violation of such symmetry is then assumed dynamical and the value of the Yukawa couplings is fixed by a variational principle. This ansatz yields compelling results: Quark Yukawas naturally accommodate hierarchical masses and small mixing whereas Lepton Yukawas ex…
The doubly charged scalar boson (H^{\pm\pm}) is introduced in several models of the new physics beyond the standard model. The H^{\pm\pm} has Yukawa interactions with two left-handed charged leptons or two right-handed charged leptons depending on the models. We study kinematical properties of H^{\pm\pm} decay products through tau leptons in order to discriminate the chiral structures of the new Yukawa interaction. The chirality of tau leptons can be measured by the energy distributions of the tau decay products, and thus the chiral structure of the new Yukawa interaction can be traced in the …
The doubly-charged scalar boson H^{--} is involved in several new physics models for generating neutrino masses. Depending on new physics models, H^{--} has the Yukawa interaction with a pair of left-handed charged leptons or a pair of right-handed ones. In this talk, we see that these two Yukawa interactions can be distinguished by measuring energy distributions of charged pions produced by decays of tau leptons if pair-produced H^{++} H^{--} can decay sufficiently into four charged leptons which involve one or two tau leptons. The information on the Yukawa interaction of H^{--} will help to …
If the scale dependence of a Yukawa matrix is assumed to be determined entirely by the dominant 33-element, then the renormalization group equations can be expressed in terms of two separate equations: a differential equation for the 33-coupling, and, an algebraic equation for the scale-independent 3x3 matrix that is found to have only two non-trivial, hierarchical, solutions with eigenvalues (0,0,1) and (0,1,1). The mass matrices are constructed from these solutions by rotating them first by the experimentally known mixing matrices-the CKM for quarks and charged leptons, and the CKM-analog fo…
We show that in SO(10) models, a Yukawa sector consisting of a real $10_H$, a real $120_H$ and a complex $126_H$ of Higgs fields can provide a realistic fit to all fermion masses and mixings, including the neutrino sector. Although the group theory of SO(10) demands that the $10_H$ and $120_H$ be real, most constructions complexify these fields and impose symmetries exterior to SO(10) to achieve predictivity. The proposed new framework with real $10_H$ and real $120_H$ relies only on SO(10) gauge symmetry, and yet has a limited number of Yukawa parameters. Our analysis shows that while there a…
In supersymmetric $E_6$ the masses of the third family quarks and charged lepton, $t-b-τ$, as well as the masses of the vector-like quarks and leptons, $D-\bar{D}$ and $ L-\bar{L}$, may arise from the coupling $27_3$ x $27_3$ x $27_H$, where $27_3$ and $27_H$ denote the third family matter and Higgs multiplets respectively. We assume that the SO(10) singlet component in $27_H$ acquires a TeV scale VEV which spontaneously breaks U(1)$_ψ$ and provides masses to the vector-like particles in $27_3$, while the MSSM doublets in $27_H$ provide masses to $ t, b$ and $τ$. Imposing Yukawa coupling unifi…
We discuss the ordinary, non-supersymmetric SO(10) as a theory of fermion masses and mixings. We construct two minimal versions of the Yukawa sector based on $\bar{126}_H $ and either $10_H$ or $120_H$. The latter case is of particular interest since it connects the absolute neutrino mass scale with the size of the atmospheric mixing angle $θ_A$. It also relates the smallness of $V_{cb}$ with the largeness of $θ_A$. These results are based on the analytic study of the second and third generations. Furthermore, we discuss the structure of the light Higgs and the role of the Peccei-Quinn symmetr…
A general method for classifying the possible quark models of a multi-Higgs-doublet model, in the presence of Abelian symmetries, is presented. All the possible sets of textures that can be present in a given sector are shown, thus turning the determination of the flavor models into a combinatorial problem. Several symmetry implementations are studied for two and three Higgs doublet models. Some models implementations are explored in great detail, with a particular emphasis on models known as Branco-Grimus-Lavoura and nearest-neighbour-nnteraction. Several considerations on the flavor changing…
We discuss the implications for lepton mixing and CP violation of structure in the lepton mass matrices, for the case that neutrino masses are generated by the see-saw mechanism with an hierarchical structure for the Majorana masses. For a particularly interesting case with enhanced symmetry in which the lepton Dirac mass matrices are related to those in the quark sector, the CHOOZ angle is near the present limit and the CP violating phase relevant to thermal leptogenesis and to $ν0 ββ$ decay is near maximal.
The one loop contribution to the lepton flavor violating decay $h^0\rightarrow μτ$ of the SM-like neutral Higgs (LFVHD) in the 3-3-1 model with neutral lepton is calculated using the unitary gauge. We have checked in detail that the total contribution is exactly finite, and the divergent cancellations happen separately in two parts of active neutrinos and exotic heavy leptons. By numerical investigation, we have indicated that the one-loop contribution of the active neutrinos is very suppressed while that of exotic leptons is rather large. The branching ratio of the LFVHD strongly depends on t…
A quark and lepton mass matrix model with family symmetries U(3)$\times$O(3) is investigated on the basis of the so-called yukawaon model. In the present model, quarks and leptons are assigned to $(\ell, e^c, u^c) \sim ({\bf 3}, {\bf 3}, {\bf 3}^*)$ of U(3) and $(q, d^c, ν^c) \sim ({\bf 3}, {\bf 3}, {\bf 3})$ of O(3). Then, the neutrino mass matrix is given by $M_ν= m_D M_R^{-1} m_D^T$ with $m_D \propto < Φ_e > $, where the charged lepton mass matrix $M_e$ is given by $M_e = k < Φ_e ><Φ_e^T >$. A merit in considering U(3)$\times$O(3) lies in that we can lower the cutoff scale $Λ$ in the yukawa…
A complete set of fermion and Higgs superfields is introduced with well-defined SO(10) properties and U(1) x Z_2 x Z_2 family charges from which the Higgs and Yukawa superpotentials are constructed. The structures derived for the four Dirac fermion and right-handed Majorana neutrino mass matrices coincide with those previously obtained from an effective operator approach. Ten mass matrix input parameters accurately yield the twenty masses and mixings of the quarks and leptons with the bimaximal atmospheric and solar neutrino vacuum solutions favored in this simplest version.
We analyse, within the framework of universal strength for Yukawa couplings (USY), various structures for the Dirac and Majorana neutrino mass matrices giving rise, through the see-saw mechanism, to a degenerate mass spectrum. A specific USY ansatz is presented for the charged lepton and neutrino effective mass matrix, leading to quasi-degenerate neutrinos and a leptonic mixing matrix which provides a large angle solution for both the atmospheric and solar neutrino problems.
The production of lepton pairs in the Higgs boson decay $h \to \ell^+ \ell^- γ$ is studied. The emphasis is put on the structure of the Higgs boson interaction with the fermions. This interaction is chosen as a mixture of the scalar and pseudo-scalar couplings, and, in addition, it is supposed to be non-Hermitian. We study prediction of this model for the observables in the $h \to \ell^+ \ell^- γ$ decay for the $e^+ e^-$, $μ^+ μ^-$ and $τ^+ τ^-$ pairs. The differential decay width and lepton forward-backward asymmetry are calculated as functions of the dilepton invariant mass for several sets …
We construct an explicit $SO(10) \times U(1)_F$ model of the Yukawa interactions by using as a guide previous phenomenological results obtained from a bottom-up approach to quark and lepton mass matrices. The global $U(1)_F$ family symmetry group sets the textures for the Majorana and generic Dirac mass matrices by restricting the type and number of Higgs diagrams which can contribute to each matrix element, while the $SO(10)$ group relates each particular element of the up, down, neutrino and charged lepton Dirac matrices. The Yukawa couplings and vacuum expectation values associated with pai…
We assume the universal Yukawa coupling (democratic mass matrix) with small violations for quarks, charged leptons and neutrinos masses. We could reproduce the mass hierarchy for quark masses and V_{CKM} matrix elements precisely. We adopt the see-saw mechanism for the explanation of smallness of neutrino masses and introduce the right-handed Majorana neutrinos and Dirac neutrinos. We assume the universal Yukawa coupling with small violations for Majorana and Dirac neutrinos. We can get the hierarchy of charged lepton masses and effective neutrino masses and the large mixing of neutrinos expre…
We analyze the neutrino Yukawa matrix by considering three constraints: the out-of-equilibrium condition of lepton number violating process responsible for leptogenesis, the upper bound of branching ratio of lepton flavor violating decay, and the prediction of large mixing angles using the see-saw mechanism. In a certain parametrization with bi-unitary transformation, it is shown that the structure which satisfies the constraints can be characterized by only seven types of Yukawa matrices. The constraint of the branching ratio of LFV turns out as a redundant one after applying other two constr…
We revisit the WMAP dark matter constraints on Yukawa Unification in the presence of massive neutrinos. The large lepton mixing indicated by the data may modify the predictions for the bottom quark mass, enabling Yukawa unification also for large $\tanβ$, and for positive $μ$ that was previously disfavoured. As a result, the allowed parameter space for neutralino dark matter increases for positive $μ$, particularly for areas with resonant enhancement of the neutralino relic density. On the contrary, a negative $μ$ is not easily compatible with large lepton mixing and Dirac neutrino Yukawa coup…
In the two Higgs doublet model, natural flavour conservation can be achieved through the use of a discrete Z2 symmetry. A less restrictive condition is the requirement of alignment in the Yukawa sector. So far, alignment has been an anzatz, not rooted in a specific model. In this letter we present a model for alignment, which starts with 2+N Higgs doublets, with natural flavour conservation imposed by a discrete symmetry. Only two of these scalars couple to the fermions, the other N scalars are in a hidden sector. Assuming that the two scalar doublets coupled to fermions are heavy, their decou…
