We revisit the WMAP dark matter constraints on Yukawa Unification in the presence of massive neutrinos. The large lepton mixing indicated by the data may modify the predictions for the bottom quark mass, enabling Yukawa unification also for large $\tanβ$, and for positive $μ$ that was previously disfavoured. As a result, the allowed parameter space for neutralino dark matter increases for positive $μ$, particularly for areas with resonant enhancement of the neutralino relic density. On the contrary, a negative $μ$ is not easily compatible with large lepton mixing and Dirac neutrino Yukawa couplings, and the WMAP allowed parameter space is in this case strongly constrained.
The compatibility of producing the observed amount of dark matter, as indicated by the WMAP data, through the relic abundance of neutralinos with Yukawa unification and with the measured rate of $b\to s γ$ is analyzed in mSUGRA and extended SUGRA unified models with the inclusion of CP phases. The CP phases affect the analysis in several ways, e.g., through the threshold corrections to the b-quark mass, via their effects on the neutralino relic density and through the SUSY contribution to the BR($b\to s γ$) which is sensitive to the CP phases. We present some specific models with large SUSY ph…
Gauge-Yukawa Unification (GYU) yields a functional relation among the gauge and Yukawa couplings, and it may follow from the usual Grand Unification if it is supplemented with some additional principles. Postulating the principles of finiteness and reduction of couplings, we have achieved Gauge-Yukawa Unification in various supersymmetric unified models leading, among other things, to interesting predictions on the top quark mass.
We study the deviation of yukawa coupling in the gauge-Higgs unification scenario from the Standard Model one. Taking into account the brane mass terms necessary for generating the flavor mixing and removing the exotic massless fermions, we derive an analytic formula determining the KK mass spectrum and yukawa coupling. Applying the obtained results to the tau and bottom yukawa couplings, we numerically calculate the ratio of the yukawa couplings in the gauge-Higgs unification and in the Standard Model.
In supersymmetric theories with extra dimensions, the Higgs and matter fields can be part of the gauge multiplet, so that the Yukawa interactions can arise from the gauge interactions. This leads to the possibility of gauge-Yukawa coupling unification, g_i=y_f, in the effective four dimensional theory after the initial gauge symmetry and the supersymmetry are broken upon orbifold compactification. We consider gauge-Yukawa unified models based on a variety of four dimensional symmetries, including SO(10), SU(5), Pati-Salam symmetry, trinification, and the Standard Model. Only in the case of Pat…
Talk given at PASCOS 2012, Merida, Mexico describing work in progress in collaboration with Archana Anandakrishnan, Christopher Plumberg and Akin Wingerter.
After a short overview of the hypothesis of Yukawa unification within SUSY GUTs, I detail on the general conditions for its phenomenological viability, emphasizing the decisive role played by observables in the flavor sector.
We study the deviation of yukawa coupling in the gauge-Higgs unification scenario from the Standard Model one. Applying the obtained results to the tau and bottom yukawa couplings, we numerically calculate the signal strength of $gg \to H \to \bar b b, \bar τ τ$in the gauge-Higgs unification.
We discuss gauge and Yukawa unification in the context of a supersymmetric model with bilinear R-parity violation. We show that this model allows $b-τ$ Yukawa unification for any value of $\tanβ$ while satisfying perturbativity of the couplings. We also find the $t-b-τ$ Yukawa unification easier to achieve than in the MSSM, occurring in a wider high $\tanβ$ region. Finaly, we also discuss the compatibility between the predicted and the measured values for $α_s(M_Z)$
We propose a GUT model in which visible matter and messengers are treated in unified way what unavoidably leads to messenger-matter mixed Yukawa interactions. Influence of this mixing on the fermion masses and the weak mixing angles is discussed.
There is a convincing experimental evidence that neutrinos are massive. Therefore we investigate the influence of the neutrino masses on the unification of gauge and Yukawa couplings in the framework of the Minimal Supersymmetric Standard Model. We estimate the contribution of the neutrino Yukawa coupling to the gauge and Yukawa coupling unification. We find that in the case of the gauge coupling unification the effect of massive neutrinos is small and can be neglected. It appears to be much more significant, if we explore Y_{b} and Y_{tau} equality at the GUT scale. The neutrino contribution …
The consequences of Gauge-Yukawa Unification (GYU) in supersymmetric unified models on low energy physics are analyzed. We find that the observed top-bottom mass hierarchy can be explained by supersymmetric GYU and different models can be experimentally distinguished if the top quark mass does not exceed the value $\sim 185$ GeV.
We discuss the basic idea of the Gauge-Yukawa Unification that is based on the principle of the reduction of couplings. This method of unification relies on the search of successful renormalization group invariant relations among couplings, which do not originate from symmetry principles. The predictive power of Grand Unified Theories can be increased by this method, predicting for instance values of the top quark mass consistent with the recent experimental data. The hope is that this unification attempt might shed further light on the origin of the Yukawa sector of the standard model.
Recently it has been proposed that, in the framework of quantum field theory, both the Standard Model gauge and Yukawa interactions arise from a single gauge interaction in higher dimensions with supersymmetry. This leads to the unification of the Standard Model gauge couplings and the third family Yukawa couplings at the GUT scale. In this work, we make a detailed study of this unification using the current experimental data, and find a good agreement in a significant region of the parameter space. Similar relations, required in Finite Grand Unification models, are also studied.
For strong enough Yukawa coupling the electroweak standard model fermion finds it energetically advantageous to transform itself into a bound state in the hedgehog background of Higgs field in semiclassical approximation. By considering the bound states give the masses for lepton and quark, we found that all the strongly Yukawa coupling constants tend to an unitary constant. On the other hand, the masses of $W$ and $Z$ produced by the hedgehog Higgs field keep almost no change.
We discuss the Yukawa coupling unification, a very interesting prediction of the grand unified theory, in the context of scenarios with more than one pair of Higgs doublet since the current LHC constraint has become a problem for the Yukawa unification scenarios with just one pair of Higgs doublet. More than one pair of Higgs doublets can easily arise in missing partner mechanism which solves the doublet-triplet splitting problem. In such a scenario, the Yukawa unification occurs at a medium $\tanβ$ value, e.g., $\sim$ 30, which corresponds to much smaller threshold corrections compared to usu…
In a supersymmetric model where R-Parity and lepton number are violated bilinearly in the superpotential, which can explain the solar and atmospheric neutrino problems, we study the unification of gauge and Yukawa couplings at the GUT scale. We show that bottom-tau Yukawa coupling unification can be achieved at any value of $\tanβ$, and that the strong coupling constant prediction from unification of gauge couplings is closer to the experimental value compared with the MSSM. We also study the predictions for $V_{cb}$ in a Yukawa texture ansätze.
Gauge-Yukawa Unification (GYU) is a renormalization group invariant functional relation among gauge and Yukawa couplings which holds beyond the unification point in Grand Unified Theories (GUTs). We present here various models where GYU is obtained by requiring the principles of finiteness and reduction of couplings. We examine the consequences of these requirements for the low energy parameters, especially for the top quark mass. The predictions are such that they clearly distinguish already GYU from ordinary GUTs. It is expected that it will be possible to discriminate among the various GYUs…
We report on a preferred region of supersymmetric parameter space by t, b, tau Yukawa unification. We find a narrow region survives for mu > 0 (suggested by b --> s gamma and the anomalous magnetic moment of the muon) with A_0 \sim - 2 m_{16}, m_{16} > 1200 GeV, mu, M_{1/2} << m_{16} and tan β\sim 50 \pm 2. Demanding Yukawa unification thus makes definite predictions for Higgs and sparticle masses.
We use $t, b, τ$ Yukawa unification to constrain SUSY parameter space. We find a narrow region survives for $μ> 0$ (suggested by \bsgam and the anomalous magnetic moment of the muon) with $A_0 \sim - 1.9 m_{16}$, $m_{10} \sim 1.4 m_{16}$, $m_{16} \sim 1200 -3000$ \gev and $μ, M_{1/2} \sim 100 - 500$ \gev. Demanding Yukawa unification thus makes definite predictions for Higgs and sparticle masses.
The idea of Gauge-Yukawa Unification (GYU) based on the principle of reduction of couplings is elucidated. We show how the observed top-bottom mass hierarchy can be explained in terms of supersymmetric GYU by considering an example of the minimal supersymmetric GUT.
Gauge-Yukawa Unification (GYU) is a renormalization group invariant functional relation among gauge and Yukawa couplings which holds beyond the unification point in Grand Unified Theories (GUTs). Here, GYU is obtained by requiring finiteness and reduction of couplings to all orders in perturbation theory. We examine the consequences of GYU in various supersymmetric GUTs and in particular the predictions for the top quark mass. These predictions are such that they distinguish already GYU from ordinary GUTs. Moreover, when more accurate measurements of the top quark mass are available, it is exp…
In this talk we assume SO(10) boundary conditions at the GUT scale, including unification for the third generation Yukawa couplings $λ_t = λ_b = λ_τ$. We find that this assumption is only consistent with the low energy data in a narrow region of soft SUSY breaking parameter space. We discuss the consequences of this result for Higgs and SUSY searches.
Third family Yukawa unification, as suggested by minimal SO(10) unification, is revisited in light of recent experimental measurements and theoretical progress. We characterize unification in a semi-model-independent fashion, and conclude that finite $b$ quark mass corrections from superpartners must be nonzero, but much smaller than naively would be expected. We show that a solution that does not require cancellations of dangerously large tanbeta effects in observables implies that scalar superpartner masses should be substantially heavier than the Z scale, and perhaps inaccessible to all cur…
The wave functions and Yukawa couplings of the top and bottom quarks in the SO(5) x U(1) gauge-Higgs unification model are determined. The result is summarized in the effective interactions for \hat θ_H(x) = θ_H + H(x)/f_H where θ_H is the Wilson line phase and H(x) is the 4D Higgs field. The Yukawa, WWH and ZZH couplings vanish at θ_H = \onehalf π. There emerges the possibility that the Higgs particle becomes stable.
We present a new constraint on a lepton mixing matrix $V$ from lepton-flavor violating (LFV) processes in supersymmetric standard models with massive neutrinos. Here, we assume Yukawa-coupling unification $f_{ν3}\simeq f_{\rm top}$, in which $τ$-neutrino Yukawa coupling $f_{ν3}$ is unified into top-quark Yukawa coupling $f_{\rm top}$ at the unification scale $M_*\simeq 3\times 10^{16}$ GeV. We show that the present experimental bound on $μ\to e γ$ decay already gives a stringent limit on the lepton mixing (typically $V_{13}<0.02$ for $V_{23}=1/\sqrt{2}$). Therefore, many existing neutrino-mass…
Supersymmetric Grand Unification usually provides unification of the bottom quark and the tau lepton Yukawa couplings at the GUT scale. In the CMSSM this can be realised only for a very particular choice of parameters. In this letter we study the GUT scale ratio y_tau/y_b for less peculiar parameters in the large tan beta regime and identify one parameter region preferred by current experimental data. In this region, which is well within the reach of the LHC, the ratio is very close to the recently proposed value of 3/2.
We consider the constrained minimal supersymmetric standard model which emerges from one theory with a small deviation from Yukawa unification which is adequate for $μ>0$. We show that this model possesses a wide and natural range of parameters which is consistent with the data on $b\to sγ$, the muon anomalous magnetic moment, the cold dark matter abundance in the universe, and the Higgs boson masses.
We revisit the WMAP dark matter constraints on Yukawa Unification in the presence of massive neutrinos. The large neutrino mixing indicated by the data modifies the predictions for the bottom quark mass, and enables Yukawa also for large $\tanβ$, and for positive $μ$ that were previously disfavoured. As a result, the allowed parameter space for neutralino dark matter also increases, particularly for areas with resonant enhancement of the neutralino relic density.
We study Yukawa unification, including the effects of a physical neutrino mass consistent with the Superkamiokande observations, in a string/$D$-brane inspired Pati-Salam model which allows the most general non-universal scalar and gaugino masses, including the usual $D$-term contributions which arise in SO(10). We investigate how the tight constraints from rare decays such as $b \to s γ$ and $τ\to μγ$ can provide information about the family dependent supersymmetry breaking soft Lagrangian, for example the trilinears associated with the second and third family. Many of our results also apply …
The WMAP dark matter constraints on b-$τ$ Yukawa Unification in the presence of massive neutrinos is revisited. The predictions for the bottom quark mass are observed to be modified by the large neutrino mixing suggested by the data. This enables Yukawa unification also for large $\tanβ$, and for positive $μ$ that were previously disfavoured. Consequently, the allowed parameter space for neutralino dark matter differs from the MSSM one. We also find that the parameter space being compatible with dark matter also predicts detectable rates for Lepton Flavour Violation at the LHC.
We discuss the Yukawa couplings in 6D gauge-Higgs unification models on $T^2/Z_N$ in the presence of magnetic fluxes. We provide general formulae for them, and numerically evaluate their magnitude in a specific model on $T^2/Z_3$. Thanks to the nontrivial profiles of the zero-mode wave functions, the top quark Yukawa coupling can be reproduced without introducing a large representation of the gauge group for matter fields. However, it is difficult to realize small Yukawa couplings only by the magnetic fluxes and the Wilson-line phases because of the complicated structure of the mode functions …
We study supersymmetric unified models with three fermion generations based on the gauge group $SO(10)$ and require Gauge-Yukawa Unification, i.e., a renormalization group invariant functional relationship among the gauge and Yukawa couplings of the third generation in the symmetric phase. In the case of the minimal model, we find that the predicted values for the top and bottom quark masses are in agreement with the present experimental data for a wide range of supersymmetry breaking scales. We also find that an experimental accuracy of less than $1 \%$ for the top quark mass could test the c…
We investigate the Yukawa coupling unification for the third generation in a class of $\mathsf{SO(10)}$ unified models which are consistent with the 4.2 $σ$ deviation from the standard model of the muon $g-2$ seen by the Fermilab experiment E989. A recent analysis in supergravity grand unified models shows that such an effect can arise from supersymmetric loops correction. Using a neural network, we further analyze regions of the parameter space where Yukawa coupling unification consistent with the Fermilab result can appear. In the analysis we take into account the contributions to Yukawas fr…
We find that the one-loop correction to the ratio of Yukawa coupling and gauge coupling in the gauge-Higgs unification, "gauge-Yukawa universality violation", is finite and calculable in any space-time dimension. Applying this result to the ratio of top quark and W-boson masses, we show that the order one correction required to generate a viable top quark mass is indeed possible if the fermion embedding top quark belongs to the large dimensional representation of the gauge group and a vacuum expectation value of Higgs scalar field is very small comparing to the compactification scale.
A natural gradual extension of the idea of Grand Unification is to attempt to relate the gauge and Yukawa couplings; Gauge-Yukawa Unification (GYU). However, within the framework of renormalizable field theories, there exists no realistic symmetry that leads to a GYU. Here we propose an approach to GYU which is based on the principle of the reduction of couplings and finiteness in supersymmetric Grand Unified Theories. We elucidate how the observed top-bottom mass hierarchy can be explained in terms of supersymmetric GYU by considering an example of the $SU(5)$ Finite Unified Theory. It is exp…
We show that in the CMSSM with the non-holomorphic soft SUSY breaking terms, the Yukawa coupling unification of the third family fermions at the GUT scale, called $ t-b-τ$ Yukawa unification (YU), is possible under the recent collider and Dark Matter results. The YU parameter can also be found $ R_{tbτ} \approx 1 $, called perfect unification. We find that the squark masses exceed 3 TeV while the stau can be considerably lighter. In the case of YU, the $ \tanβ$ is in the interval $ [46,55] $. We obtain bino-like dark matter (DM) of mass in the range of $ 0.6$ TeV $ \lesssim m_{χ_{1}^{0}} \less…
We show compatibility with all known experimental constraints of t-b-tau Yukawa coupling unification in supersymmetric SU(4)_c x SU(2)_L x SU(2)_R which has non-universal gaugino masses and the MSSM parameter mu < 0. In particular, the relic neutralino abundance satisfies the WMAP bounds and Delta (g-2)_mu is in good agreement with the observations. We identify benchmark points for the sparticle spectra which can be tested at the LHC, including those associated with gluino and stau coannihilation channels, mixed bino-Higgsino state and the A-funnel region. We also briefly discuss prospects for…
Supersymmetric grand unified models based on SO(10) gauge symmetry have many desireable features, including the unification of Yukawa couplings. Using D-term contributions to scalar masses arising from the breakdown of SO(10), Yukawa coupling unification only to 30% can be achieved in models with a positive superpotential Higgs mass. The superparticle mass spectrum is highly constrained, and yields relatively light top squarks and charginos. Surprisingly, the pattern of GUT scale soft SUSY breaking masses are close to those found in the context of inverted hierarchy models. Our analysis suppor…
The requirement of Yukawa coupling unification highly constrains the SUSY parameter space. In several SUSY breaking scenarios it is hard to reconcile Yukawa coupling unification with experimental constraints from B(b->s gamma) and the muon anomalous magnetic moment a_mu. We show that b-tau or even t-b-tau Yukawa unification can be satisfied simultaneously with b->s gamma and a_mu in the non-universal gaugino mediation scenario. Non-universal gaugino masses naturally appear in higher dimensional grand unified models in which gauge symmetry is broken by orbifold compactification. Relations betwe…
The status of coupling constant unification (with and without a unification of Yukawa couplings) is discussed. Uncertainties associated with the input coupling constants, $m_{b}$ and $m_{t}$, threshold corrections at the low and high scale, and possible nonrenormalizable operators are described and a discrepancy between effective and physical scales is pointed out. Theoretical uncertainties in the predictions of $α_{s}(M_{Z})$, $m_{b}$, and the unification scale, $M_{G}$, are discussed and estimated. Constraints on the super-partner spectrum are found to be weak if uncertainties associated wit…
Talk given at Frontiers in Particle Physics Conference, Cargese. In this paper, I provide some motivation for supersymmetric grand unified theories, briefly explain an extension of the standard model based on them and present a calculation performed using certain properties of some SUSY GUTs to constrain the available parameter space.
Although recent data on the muon anomalous magnetic moment strongly disfavor the constrained minimal supersymmetric standard model with mu<0, they cannot exclude it because of theoretical ambiguities. We consider this model supplemented by a Yukawa quasi-unification condition which allows an acceptable b-quark mass. We find that the cosmological upper bound on the lightest sparticle relic abundance is incompatible with the data on the branching ratio of b-->s gamma, which is evaluated by including all the next-to-leading order corrections. Thus, this scheme is not viable.
Unification of GUT-scale t-b-τYukawa couplings is a significant feature of simple SO(10) SUSY GUTs. Here we present the results of a search that used the Markov Chain Monte Carlo technique to investigate regions of Yukawa unification and WMAP-compatible dark matter relic density in SO(10)-like MSSM parameter spaces. We mention the possible LHC signatures of Yukawa unified scenarios and discuss the consequences for dark matter.
We investigate supersymmetric models with left-right symmetry based on the group $SU(4)_{c} \times SU(2)_{L} \times SU(2)_{R}$ ($4$-$2$-$2$) with negative sign of bilinear Higgs potential parameter $μ$ in the context of the latest experimental results. In the backdrop of experimental results from the Large Hadron Collider, we investigate the possibility of Yukawa unification in $4$-$2$-$2$ and find out the same is still not ruled out. Furthermore, this scenario also provides a satisfactory dark matter candidate. The current experimental bounds on sparticle masses, mass bounds on Higgs particle…
We present a supersymmetric SU(5) x U(1)_H model, free from gauge anomalies, where the Abelian factor U(1)_H, introduced to account for the hierarchy of fermion masses and mixings, is broken by the same adjoint representations of SU(5) that also break the GUT symmetry. The model predicts approximate, but never exact, bottom-tau Yukawa unification. The deviations are related to group theoretical coefficients and can naturally be at the level of 10%-20%.
In the MSSM extended by a complete vectorlike family, precise top, bottom and tau Yukawa coupling unification can be achieved assuming SUSY threshold corrections which are typical for comparable superpartner masses. Furthermore, the unification is possible with a large unified coupling, implying that all three fermion masses can be simultaneously close to their IR fixed points. Assuming unified Yukawa couplings of order one or larger, the preferred common scale of new physics (superpartners and vectorlike matter) is in the 3 TeV to 30 TeV range, with larger couplings favoring smaller scales. S…
We explore the implications of t-b-tau (and b-tau) Yukawa coupling unification condition on the fundamental parameter space and sparticle spectroscopy in the minimal gauge mediated supersymmetry breaking (mGMSB) model. We find that this scenario prefers values of the CP-odd Higgs mass m_A > 1 TeV, with all colored sparticle masses above 3 TeV. These predictions will be hard to test at LHC13 but they may be testable at HE-LHC 33 TeV or a 100 TeV collider. Both t-b-tau and b-tau Yukawa coupling unifications prefer a relatively light gravitino with mass < 30 eV, which makes it a candidate hot dar…
In this letter we analyze the consequences, for the LHC, of gauge and third family Yukawa coupling unification with a particular set of boundary conditions defined at the GUT scale, which we characterize as effective "mirage" mediation. We perform a global chi-squared analysis including the observables M_W, M_Z, G_F, alpha_em, alpha_s(M_Z), M_top, m_b(m_b), M_tau, BR(B -> X_s gamma), BR(B_s -> mu^+ mu^-) and M_{h}. The fit is performed in the MSSM in terms of 10 GUT scale parameters, while tanb and mu are fixed at the weak scale. We find good fits to the low energy data and a SUSY spectrum whi…
We explore the Higgs and sparticle spectroscopy of supersymmetric SU(4)_c x SU(2)_L x SU(2)_R models in which the three MSSM gauge couplings and third family (t-b-tau) Yukawa couplings are all unified at M_GUT. This class of models can be obtained via compactification of a higher dimensional theory. Allowing for opposite sign gaugino masses and varying m_t within 1 sigma of its current central value yields a variety of gauge-Yukawa unification as well as WMAP compatible neutralino dark matter solutions. They include mixed bino-Higgsino dark matter, stau and gluino coannihilation scenarios, and…
The cosmological relic density of the lightest supersymmetric particle of the minimal supersymmetric standard model is calculated under the assumption of gauge and Yukawa coupling unification. We employ radiative electroweak breaking with universal boundary conditions from gravity-mediated supersymmetry breaking. Further constraints are imposed by the experimental bounds on the b-quark mass and the BR(b -> s gamma). We find that coannihilation of the lightest supersymmetric particle, which turns out to be an almost pure bino, with the next-to-lightest supersymmetric particle (the lightest stau…
We consider the low energy implications including particle spectroscopy of SO(10) inspired t-b-tau Yukawa coupling unification with mu < 0, where mu is the coefficient of the bilinear Higgs mixing term of the minimal supersymmetric standard model (MSSM). We imploy non-universal MSSM gaugino masses induced by SO(10) invariant dimension five operators, such that the total number of fundamental parameters is precisely the same as in Yukawa unified supersymmetric SO(10) models with universal gaugino masses and mu > 0. We find that t-b-tau Yukawa unification with mu < 0 is compatible with the curre…
The condition of unification of gauge couplings in the minimal supersymmetric standard model provides successful predictions for the weak mixing angle as a function of the strong gauge coupling and the supersymmetric threshold scale. In addition, in some scenarios, e.g.\ in the minimal SO(10) model, the tau lepton and the bottom and top quark Yukawa couplings unify at the grand unification scale. The condition of Yukawa unification leads naturally to large values of $\tanβ$, implying a proper top quark--bottom quark mass hierarchy. In this work, we investigate the feasibility of unification of…
We identify a class of supersymmetric SU(4)_c x SU(2)_L x SU(2)_R models in which imposing essentially perfect t-b-tau Yukawa coupling unification at M_GUT yields a mass close to 122-126 GeV for the lightest CP-even (SM-like) Higgs boson. The squark and gluino masses in these models exceed 3 TeV, but the stau and charginos in some cases can be considerably lighter. We display some benchmark points corresponding to neutralino-stau and bino-wino coannihilations as well as A-resonance. The well-known MSSM parameter tan beta is around 46-52.
We construct concrete supersymmetric grand unified theories based on the Pati-Salam gauge group SU(4)_c x SU(2)_L x SU(2)_R which naturally lead to a moderate violation of "asymptotic" Yukawa unification and thus can allow an acceptable b-quark mass even with universal boundary conditions. We consider the constrained minimal supersymmetric standard model which emerges from one of these theories with a deviation from Yukawa unification which is adequate for mu>0. We show that this model possesses a wide and natural range of parameters which is consistent with the data on b --> s gamma, the muon…
We review some properties of Bilinear R-Parity Violating models: simple extensions of the Minimal Supersymmetric Standard Model motivated by spontaneous breaking of R-Parity. We concentrate on the relaxation of the bounds on the charged Higgs mass imposed by the measurement of B(b -> s gamma), the effect on the mass of the lightest neutral Higgs boson, the radiative breaking of the electroweak symmetry, the unification of bottom and tau Yukawa couplings, and the relation of these phenomena to the radiatively generated tau-neutrino mass.
We address the viability of exact Yukawa unification in the context of general SUSY GUTs with universal soft-breaking sfermion and gaugino mass terms at the GUT scale. We find that this possibility is challenged, unless the squark spectrum is pushed well above the limits allowed by naturalness. This conclusion is assessed through a global fit using electroweak observables and quark flavour-changing neutral current (FCNC) processes. The problem is mostly the impossibility of accommodating simultaneously the bottom mass and the BR(B --> Xs gamma), after the stringent CDF upper bound on the decay…
We explore $t-b-τ$ Yukawa unification (YU) in a supersymmetric $SU(4)_c \times SU(2)_L \times SU(2)_R $ model without imposing a discrete left-right (L-R) symmetry. A number of interesting solutions that are compatible with $t-b-τ$ YU, LSP neutralino dark matter (DM), and LHC and other experimental constraints are identified. In particular, they include gluino-neutralino and stau-neutralino co-annihilation scenarios, where the NLSP gluino mass can range from 1-3 TeV. Higgsino-like dark matter solutions are also identified for which gluino masses can approach 5 TeV or so. This scenario will be …
We consider two classes of t-b-tau quasi-Yukawa unification scenarios which can arise from realistic supersymmetric SO(10) and SU(4)_C X SU(2)_L X SU(2)_R models. We show that these scenarios can be successfully implemented in the CMSSM and NUHM1 frameworks, and yields a variety of sparticle spectra with WMAP compatible neutralino dark matter. In NUHM1 we find bino-higgsino dark matter as well as the stau coannihilation and A-funnel solutions. The CMSSM case yields the stau coannihilation and A-funnel solutions. The gluino and squark masses are found to lie in the TeV range.
Naturalness in supersymmetry (SUSY) is under siege by increasingly stringent LHC constraints, but natural electroweak symmetry breaking still remains the most powerful motivation for superpartner masses within experimental reach. If naturalness is the wrong criterion then what determines the mass scale of the superpartners? We motivate supersymmetry by (1) gauge coupling unification, (2) dark matter, and (3) precision b-tau Yukawa unification. We show that for an LSP that is a bino-Higgsino admixture, these three requirements lead to an upper-bound on the stop and sbottom masses in the several…
