In the paper we consider pseudo bihermitian structures - a pair of complex structures compatible with a pseudo Riemannian metric. As in the positive definite case we establish its relations with generalized (pseudo) Kaehler geometry and holomorphic Poisson structures. We provide a list of compact complex surfaces which could admit such structure and also examples of bihermitian structures on some of them. We also consider a naturally defined null plane distribution on generalized pseudo Kaehler 4-manifold and show that under a mild restriction it determines an Engel structure.
Let $c$ be a characteristic form of degree $k$ which is defined on a Kaehler manifold of real dimension $m>2k$. Taking the inner product with the Kaehler form $Ω^k$ gives a scalar invariant which can be considered as a generalized Lovelock functional. The associated Euler-Lagrange equations are a generalized Einstein-Gauss-Bonnet gravity theory; this theory restricts to the canonical formalism if $c=c_2$ is the second Chern form. We extend previous work studying these equations from the Kaehler to the pseudo-Kaehler setting.
Using the idea of a generalized Kaehler structure, which is a pair of commuting generalized complex structures, we construct bihermitian metrics on the projective plane and the product of two projective lines, and show that any such structure on a compact 4-manifold M defines one on the moduli space of anti-self-dual connections on a fixed principal bundle over M. We highlight the role of holomorphic Poisson structures in all these constructions.
In this paper, we first define the complexification of a real analytic map between real analytic Koszul manifolds and show that the complexified map is the holomorphic extension of the original map. Next we define an anti-Kaehler metric compatible with the adapted complex structure on the complexification of a real analytic pseudo-Riemannian manifold. In particular, for a pseudo-Riemannian homogeneous space, we define another complexification and a (complete) anti-Kaehler metric on the complexification. One of main purposes of this paper is to find the interesting relation between these two co…
We construct a compact 6-dimensional solvmanifold endowed with a non-trivial invariant generalized Kähler structure and which does not admit any Kähler metric. This is in contrast with the case of nilmanifolds which cannot admit any invariant generalized Kähler structure unless they are tori.
We study generalized Kaehler manifolds for which the corresponding complex structures commute and classify completely the compact generalized Kaehler four-manifolds for which the induced complex structures yield opposite orientations.
Let (g,b,J_+,J_-) be the bihermitian structure corresponding to a generalized Kaehler structure. We find natural integrability conditions under which db=0.
This is an expository paper, which provides a first introduction to geometric structures on $TM\oplus T^*M$. The paper contains definitions and characteristic properties of generalized complex, generalized Kaehler, generalized (normal, almost) contact and generalized Sasakian structures. A few of these properties are new.
A unified approach to geometric, symbol and deformation quantizations on a generalized flag manifold endowed with an invariant pseudo-Kaehler structure is proposed. The Hilbert space of states is realized via the Bott-Borel-Weil theorem in the sheaf cohomology of the geometric quantization line bundle. The corresponding deformation quantization is a quantization with separation of variables. In particular cases we arrive at Berezin's quantization via covariant and contravariant symbols.
Four dimensional simply connected Lie groups admitting a pseudo Kähler metric are determined. The corresponding Lie algebras are modelized and the compatible pairs $(J,ω)$ are parametrized up to complex isomorphism (where $J$ is a complex structure and $ω$ is a symplectic structure). Such structure gives rise to a pseudo Riemannian metric $g$ for which $J$ is parallel. It is proved that most of these complex homogeneous spaces admit a pseudo Kähler Einstein metric. Ricci flat and flat metrics are determined. In particular Ricci flat unimodular Kähler Lie algebras are flat in dimension four. Ot…
Following the approach to pseudo-Riemannian symmetric spaces developed in math.DG/0408249 we exhibit examples of indefinite hyper-Kaehler symmetric spaces with non-abelian holonomy. Moreover, we classify indecomposable hyper-Kaehler symmetric spaces whose metric has signature (4,4n). Such spaces exist if and only if n=0,1,3.
Any pseudo-Hermitian or para-Hermitian manifold of dimension 4 admits a unique Kaehler-Weyl structure; this structure is locally conformally Kaehler if and only if the alternating Ricci tensor vanishes. The alternating Ricci tensor takes values in a certain representation space. In this paper, we show that any algebraic possibility in this representation space can in fact be geometrically realized by a left-invariant Kaehler-Weyl structure on a 4-dimensional Lie group in either the Hermitian or the para-Hermitian setting.
In generalized complex geometry, we revisit linear subspaces and submanifolds that have an induced generalized complex structure. We give an expression of the induced structure that allows us to deduce a smoothness criteria, we dualize the results to submersions and we make a few comments on generalized complex mappings. Then, we discuss submanifolds of generalized Kaehler manifolds that have an induced generalized Kaehler structure. These turn out to be the common invariant submanifolds of the two classical complex structures of the generalized Kaehler manifold.
We obtain a classification theorem for non Kaehler nearly Kaehler manifolds with vanishing Bochner curvature tensor (introduced by Tricerri and Vanhecke).
Let $X$ be a compact connected Kähler manifold equipped with an anti-holomorphic involution which is compatible with the Kähler structure. Let $G$ be a connected complex reductive affine algebraic group equipped with a real form $σ_G$. We define pseudo-real principal $G$--bundles on $X$; these are generalizations of real algebraic principal $G$--bundles over a real algebraic variety. Next we define stable, semistable and polystable pseudo-real principal $G$--bundles. Their relationships with the usual stable, semistable and polystable principal $G$--bundles are investigated. We then prove that…
The existence of some complex geometrical structures on a compact manifold such as complex structures, Kaehler (pseudo-Kaehler) structures often impose certain restrictions on its underling topological or differentiable manifold. In this article we survey recent developments in the study of the existence, classification and moduli problems of such structures on compact homogeneous manifolds.
We prove that no nilpotent Lie algebra admits an invariant generalized Kaehler structure. This is done by showing that a certain differential graded algebra associated to a generalized complex manifold is formal in the generalized Kaehler case, while it is never formal for a generalized complex structure on a nilpotent Lie algebra.
We first extend the notion of connection in the context of Courant algebroids to obtain a new characterization of generalized Kaehler geometry. We then establish a new notion of isomorphism between holomorphic Poisson manifolds, which is non-holomorphic in nature. Finally we show an equivalence between certain configurations of branes on Poisson varieties and generalized Kaehler structures, and use this to construct explicitly new families of generalized Kaehler structures on compact holomorphic Poisson manifolds equipped with positive Poisson line bundles (e.g. Fano manifolds). We end with so…
We give an elementary proof of the fact that any 4-dimensional para-Hermitian manifold admits a unique para-Kaehler--Weyl structure. We then use analytic continuation to pass from the para-complex to the complex setting and thereby show any 4-dimensional pseudo-Hermitian manifold also admits a unique Kaehler--Weyl structure.
Anti-diagonal toric generalized K$\ddot{a}$hler structures of symplectic type on a compact toric symplectic manifold were investigated in \cite{Wang2} . In this article, we consider \emph{general} toric generalized K$\ddot{a}$hler structures of symplectic type, without requiring them to be anti-diagonal. Such a structure is characterized by a triple $(τ, C, F)$ where $τ$ is a strictly convex function defined in the interior of the moment polytope $Δ$ and $C, F$ are two constant anti-symmetric matrices. We prove that underlying each such a structure is a \emph{canonical} toric K$\ddot{a}$hler s…
Let (M, g, omega) be a compact, almost-Kaehler Einstein 4-manifold of negative star-scalar curvature. Then (M, omega) is a MINIMAL symplectic 4-manifold of general type. In particular, M cannot be differentiably decomposed as a connected sum N # (-CP_2).
We introduce slant Riemannian maps from Riemannian manifolds to almost Hermitian manifolds as a generalization of slant immersions, invariant Riemannian maps and anti-invariant Riemannian maps. We give examples, obtain characterizations and investigate the harmonicity of such maps. We also obtain necessary and sufficient conditions for slant Riemannian maps to be totally geodesic. Moreover we relate the notion of slant Riemannian maps to the notion of pseudo horizontally weakly conformal maps which are useful for proving various complex-analytic properties of stable harmonic maps from complex …
Notions of self-dual and anti self-dual almost quaternionic structures are introduced. The complete classification of self-dual and anti self-dual generalized Kaehler manifolds is obtained.
For complete complex connections on almost complex manifolds we introduce a natural definition of compactification. This is based on almost c--projective geometry, which is the almost complex analogue of projective differential geometry. The boundary at infinity is a (possibly non-integrable) CR structure. The theory applies to almost Hermitean manifolds which admit a complex metric connection of minimal torsion, which means that they are quasi--Kaehler in the sense of Gray--Hervella; in particular it applies to Kaehler and nearly Kaehler manifolds. Via this canonical connection, we obtain a n…
We introduce a natural notion of holomorphic map between generalized complex manifolds and we prove some related results on Dirac structures and generalized Kaehler manifolds.
We use the procedure of reduction of Courant algebroids to reduce strong KT, hyper KT and generalized Kaehler structures on Courant algebroids. This allows us to recover results from the literature as well as explain from a different angle some of the features observed there in. As an example, we prove that the moduli space of instantons of a bundle over a SKT/HKT/generalized Kähler manifold is endowed with the same type of structure as the original manifold.
We characterize the Dirac structures that are parallel with respect to Gualtieri's canonical connection of a generalized Riemannian metric. On the other hand, we discuss Dirac structures that are images of generalized tangent structures. These structures turn out to be Dirac structures that, if seen as Lie algebroids, have a symplectic structure. Particularly, if compatibility with a generalized Riemannian metric is required, the symplectic structure is of the Kaehler type.
In this work we investigate Ricci flows of almost Kaehler structures on Lie algebroids when the fundamental geometric objects are completely determined by (semi) Riemannian metrics, or effective) regular generating Lagrange/ Finsler, functions. There are constructed canonical almost symplectic connections for which the geometric flows can be represented as gradient ones and characterized by nonholonomic deformations of Grigory Perelman's functionals. The first goal of this paper is to define such thermodynamical type values and derive almost Kähler - Ricci geometric evolution equations. The se…
We collect the recent results on invariant f-structures in the generalized Hermitian geometry. Here the canonical f-structures on homogeneous k-symmetric spaces play a remarkable role. Specifically, these structures provide a wealth of invariant examples for the classes of nearly Kaehler f-structures, Hermitian f-structures and some others. Finally, we consider all invariant f-structures on the complex flag manifold SU(3)/T_{max} and describe them in the sense of generalized Hermitian geometry. In particular, it presents first invariant examples of Killing f-structures.
Let M be either a simply connected pseudo-Riemannian space of constant curvature or a rank one Riemannian symmetric space (other than the octonion hyperbolic plane), and consider the space L(M) of oriented geodesics of M. The space L(M) is a smooth homogeneous manifold and in this paper we describe all invariant symplectic structures, (para)complex structures, pseudo-Riemannian metrics and (para)Kaehler structure on L(M).
We introduce the notion of twisted generalized complex submanifolds and describe an equivalent characterization in terms of Poisson-Dirac submanifolds. Our characterization recovers a result of Vaisman. An equivalent characterization is also given in terms of spinors. As a consequence, we show that the fixed locus of an involution preserving a twisted generalized complex structure is a twisted generalized complex submanifold. We also prove that a twisted generalized complex manifold has a natural Poisson structure. We also discuss generalized Kaehler submanifolds.
In this paper we provide examples of maps from almost complex domains into pseudo-Riemannian symmetric targets, which are pluriharmonic and not integrable, i.e. do not admit an associated family. More precisely, for one class of examples the source has a non-integrable complex structure, like for instance a nearly Kaehler structure and the target is a Riemannian symmetric space and for the other class the source is a complex manifold and the target is a pseudo-Riemannian symmetric space. These examples show, that a former result on the existence of associated families is sharp.
A contact manifold $M$ can be defined as a quotient of a symplectic manifold $X$ by a proper, free action of $\R^{>0}$, with the symplectic form homogeneous of degree 2. If $X$ is, in addition, Kaehler, and its metric is also homogeneous of degree 2, $M$ is called Sasakian. A Sasakian manifold is realized naturally as a level set of a Kaehler potential on a complex manifold, hence it is equipped with a pseudoconvex CR-structure. We show that any Sasakian manifold $M$ is CR-diffeomorphic to an $S^1$-bundle of unit vectors in a positive line bundle on a projective Kähler orbifold. This induces a…
Conformally flat pseudo-Riemannian manifolds with generalized Ricci recurrent, $(GR)_n$ structure are completely classified in this short report. A conformally flat generalized Ricci recurrent pseudo-Riemannian manifold is shown to be either a de Sitter space or an anti-de Sitter space. In particular, a conformally flat generalized Ricci recurrent spacetime must be either a de Sitter spacetime or an anti-de Sitter spacetime.
We define the notions of B_n-generalized pseudo-Hermitian and B_n-generalized pseudo-Kahler structures on an odd exact Courant algebroid E. When E is in the standard form (or of type B_n) we express these notions in terms of classical tensor fields on the base of E. This is analogous to the bi-Hermitian viewpoint on generalized Kahler structures on exact Courant algebroids. We describe left-invariant B_n-generalized pseudo-Kahler structures on Courant algebroids of type B_n over Lie groups of dimension two, three and four.
In this paper, we establish a generalized maximum principle for pseudo-Hermitian manifolds. As corollaries, Omori-Yau type maximum principles for pseudo-Hermitian manifolds are deduced. Moreover, we prove that the stochastic completeness for the heat semigroup generated by the sub-Laplacian is equivalent to the validity of a weak form of the generalized maximum principles. Finally, we give some applications of these generalized maximum principles.
In this study, it is generalized the concept of Lagrangian mechanics with constraints to complex case. To be beginning, it is considered a Kaehlerian manifold as a velocity-phase space. Then a non-holonomic constraint is given by 1-form on it. If the form is closed, it is found that the constraint is (locally) holonomic. In the result, complex analogous of some topics in constrained Lagrangian mechanical system is concluded.
Generalized tensor analysis in the sense of Colombeau's construction is employed to introduce a nonlinear distributional pseudo-Riemannian geometry. In particular, after deriving several characterizations of invertibility in the algebra of generalized functions we define the notions of generalized pseudo-Riemannian metric, generalized connection and generalized curvature tensor. We prove a ``Fundamental Lemma of (pseudo-)Riemannian geometry'' in this setting and define the notion of geodesics of a generalized metric. Finally, we present applications of the resulting theory to general relativit…
In this paper, we consider some generalized holomorphic maps between pseudo-Hermitian manifolds and Hermitian manifolds. By Bochner formulas and comparison theorems, we establish related Schwarz type results. As corollaries, Liouville theorem and little Picard theorem for basic CR functions are deduced. Finally, we study CR Carathéodory pseudodistance on CR manifolds.
In this paper, we generalize all the results obtained on para-Kähler Lie algebras in Journal of Algebra {\bf 436} (2015) 61-101 to para-Kähler Lie algebroids. In particular, we study exact para-Kähler Lie algebroids as a generalization of exact para-Kähler Lie algebras. This study leads to a natural generalization of pseudo-Hessian manifolds. Generalized pseudo-Hessian manifolds have many similarities with Poisson manifolds. We explore these similarities which, among others, leads to a powerful machinery to build examples of non trivial pseudo-Hessian structures. Namely, we will show that give…
We consider three- and four-dimensional pseudo-Riemannian generalized symmetric spaces, whose invariant metrics were explicitly described in [15]. While four-dimensional pseudo-Riemannian generalized symmetric spaces of types A, C and D are algebraic Ricci solitons, the ones of type B are not so. The Ricci soliton equation for their metrics yields a system of partial differential equations. Solving such system, we prove that almost all the four-dimensional pseudo-Riemannian generalized symmetric spaces of type B are Ricci solitons. These examples show some deep differences arising for the Ricc…
We call complex quasifold of dimension k a space that is locally isomorphic to the quotient of an open subset of the space C^k by the holomorphic action of a discrete group; the analogue of a complex torus in this setting is called a complex quasitorus. We associate to each simple polytope, rational or not, a family of complex quasifolds having same dimension as the polytope, each containing a dense open orbit for the action of a suitable complex quasitorus. We show that each of these spaces M is diffeomorphic to one of the symplectic quasifolds defined in http://arXiv.org/abs/math:SG/9904179,…
