Let $\cA$ be a commutative unital Banach algebra, $\g$ be a semisimple complex Lie algebra and $G(\cA)$ be the 1-connected Banach--Lie group with Lie algebra $\g \otimes \cA$. Then there is a natural concept of a parabolic subgroup $P(\cA)$ of $G(\cA)$ and we obtain generalizations $X(\cA) := G(\cA)/P(\cA)$ of the generalized flag manifolds. In this note we provide an explicit description of all homogeneous holomorphic line bundles over $X(\cA)$ with non-zero holomorphic sections. In particular, we show that all these line bundles are tensor products of pullbacks of line bundles over $X(\C)$ by evaluation maps.
For the special case where $\cA$ is a $C^*$-algebra, our results lead to a complete classification of all irreducible involutive holomorphic representations of $G(\cA)$ on Hilbert spaces.
After reviewing how the Borel-Weil-Bott theorem can be interpreted as an index theorem, we present a proof using Kostant's cubic Dirac operator and the equivariant McKean-Singer formula.
We prove an analogue of the Borel-Bott-Weil theorem in equivariant KK-theory by constructing certain canonical equivariant correspondences between minimal flag varieties G/B, with G a complex semisimple Lie group.
The main focus of this paper is Bott-Borel-Weil (BBW) theory for basic classical Lie superalgebras. We take a purely algebraic self-contained approach to the problem. A new element in this study is twisting functors, which we use in particular to prove that the top of the cohomology groups of BBW theory for generic weights is described by the recently introduced star action. We also study the algebra of regular functions, related to BBW theory. Then we introduce a weaker form of genericness, relative to the Borel subalgebra and show that the virtual BGG reciprocity of Gruson and Serganova beco…
We give a branching law for subgroups fixed by an involution. As an application we give a generalization of the Cartan-Helgason theorem and a noncompact analogue of the Borel-Weil theorem.
We establish a theorem computing the cohomology groups of line bundles on homogeneous ind-varieties $G/B$ for diagonal ind-groups $G$. The main difficulty in proving this analog of the classical Bott-Borel-Weil theorem is in defining an appropriate analog $W_B$ of the Weyl group so that the action of $W_B$ on weights of $G$ is compatible with the analog of the Demazure "action" of the Weyl group on the cohomology of line bundles.
We study the structure of an algebraic supergroup $\mathbb{G}$ and establish the Borel-Weil theorem for $\mathbb{G}$ to give a systematic construction of all simple supermodules over an arbitrary field. Especially when $\mathbb{G}$ has a distinguished parabolic super-subgroup, we show that the set of all simple supermodules of $\mathbb{G}$ is parameterized by the set of all dominant weights for the even part of $\mathbb{G}$, prove a super-analogue of the Kempf vanishing theorem, and give a description of Euler characteristics.
We compute the cohomology of modules over the algebra of twisted chiral differential operators over the flag manifold. This is applied to (1) finding the character of $G$-integrable irreducible highest weight modules over the affine Lie algebra at the critical level, and (2) computing a certain elliptic genus of the flag manifold. The main tool is a result that interprets the Drinfeld-Sokolov reduction as a derived functor.
We establish a noncommutative generalisation of the Borel-Weil theorem for the Heckenberger-Kolb calculi of the irreducible quantum flag manifolds $\mathcal{O}_q(G/L_S)$, generalising previous work of a number of authors (including the first and third authors of this paper) on the quantum Grassmannians $\mathcal{O}_q(\mathrm{Gr}_{n,m})$. As a direct consequence we get a novel noncommutative differential geometric presentation of the quantum coordinate rings $S_q[G/L_S]$ of the irreducible quantum flag manifolds. The proof is formulated in terms of quantum principal bundles, and the recently in…
In this paper we introduce (weakly) root graded Banach--Lie algebras and corresponding Lie groups as natural generalizations of group like $\GL_n(A)$ for a Banach algebra $A$ or groups like $C(X,K)$ of continuous maps of a compact space $X$ into a complex semisimple Lie group $K$. We study holomorphic induction from holomorphic Banach representations of so-called parabolic subgroups $P$ to representations of $G$ on holomorphic sections of homogeneous vector bundles over $G/P$. One of our main results is an algebraic characterization of the space of sections which is used to show that this spac…
We indicate a geometric relation between Laplace-Beltrami spectra and eigenfunctions on compact Riemannian symmetric spaces and the Borel-Weil theory using ideas from symplectic geometry and geometric quantization. This is done by associating to each compact Riemannian symmetric space, via Marsden-Weinstein reduction, a generalized flag manifold which covers the space parametrizing all of its maximal totally geodesic tori. In the process we notice a direct relation between the Satake diagram of the symmetric space and the painted Dynkin diagram of its associated flag manifold. We consider in d…
In this manuscript we consider the extent to which an irreducible representation for a reductive Lie group can be realized as the sheaf cohomolgy of an equivariant holomorphic line bundle defined on an open invariant submanifold of a complex flag space. Our main result is the following: suppose $G_{0}$ is a real reductive group of Harish-Chandra class and let $X$ be the associated full complex flag space. Suppose $\mathcal{O}_λ$ is the sheaf of sections of a $G_{0}$-equivariant holomorphic line bundle on $X$ whose parameter $λ$ (in the usual twisted $\mathcal{D}% $-module context) is antidomin…
In our previous paper [math.NT/0408050], we established a correspondence between vector-valued holomorphic Siegel modular forms and cohomology with local coefficients for local symmetric spaces $X$ attached to real orthogonal groups of type $(p,q)$. This correspondence is realized using theta functions associated to explicitly constructed "special" Schwartz forms. Furthermore, the theta functions give rise to generating series of certain "special cycles" in $X$ with coefficients. In this paper, we study the boundary behaviour of these theta functions in the non-compact case and show that the t…
We show that Penkov's approach to a superanalog of Borel-Bott-Weil theorem for $G=GL(m|n)$ over a field of zero characteristic can be extended for a perfect field of arbitrary odd characteristic. We also prove some partial version of Kempf's vanishing theorem and characteristic free formula for Euler characteristic $χ(B, λ^ε)$, where $B$ is a Borel subgroup of $G$.
The Borel-Weil-Bott theorem describes the cohomology of line bundles over flag varieties. Here, one generalizes this theorem to a wider class of projective varieties : the wonderful varieties of minimal rank.
In this paper, we use geometrical methods adapted from the Borel-Weil-Bott theory to compute the character of every finite dimensional simple module over a basic classical Lie superalgebra.
Let $F$ be a non-Archimedean local field and let $p$ be the residual characteristic of $F$. Let $G=GL_2(F)$ and let $P$ be a Borel subgroup of $G$. In this paper we study the restriction of irreducible representations of $G$ on $E$-vector spaces to $P$, where $E$ is an algebraically closed field of characteristic $p$. We show that in a certain sense $P$ controls the representation theory of $G$. We then extend our results to smooth $\oK[G]$- modules of finite length and unitary $K$-Banach space representations of $G$, where $\oK$ is the ring of integers of a complete discretely valued field $K…
Let $W$ be a differential (not necessarily commutative) algebra which carries a free action of a polynomial algebra $SP$ with homogeneous generators $p_1, >..., p_r$. We show that for $W$ acyclic, the cohomology of the quotient $H(W/<p_1, ..., p_r>)$ is isomorphic to a Clifford algebra $\text{Cl}(P,B)$, where the (possibly degenerate) bilinear form $B$ depends on $W$. This observation is an analogue of an old result of Borel in a non-commutative context. As an application, we study the case of $W$ given by the quantized Weil algebra $\qWg = \Ug \otimes \Clg$ for $\Lieg$ a reductive Lie algebra…
We construct Koppelman formulas on Grassmannians for forms with values in any holomorphic line bundle as well as in the tautological vector bundle and its dual. As a consequence we obtain some vanishing theorems of the Bott-Borel-Weil type. We also relate the projection part of our formulas to the Bergman kernels associated to the line bundles.
The goal of this diploma thesis is to give a detailed description of Kirillov's Orbit Method for the case of compact connected Lie groups. The theory of Kirillov aims at finding all irreducible unitary representations of a given Lie group $G$. The first chapter is intended to recall some facts about Lie groups. The most important result is that for a functional $λ$ on the Lie algebra $\mathfrak t$ of a maximal torus in a compact connected Lie group the stabilizer is of the form $C(T_1)$ for a smaller torus $T_1$. This allows us to define a complex structure on the coadjoint orbit $\mathcal O_λ…
In this paper the authors study the behavior of the sheaf cohomology functors $R^{\bullet}\text{ind}_{B}^{G}(-)$ where $G$ is an algebraic group scheme corresponding to a simple classical Lie superalgebra and $B$ is a BBW parabolic subgroup as defined by D. Grantcharov, N. Grantcharov, Nakano and Wu. We provide a systematic treatment that allows us to study the behavior of these cohomology groups $R^{\bullet}\text{ind}_{B}^{G}L_{\mathfrak f}(λ)$ where $L_{\mathfrak f}(λ)$ is an irreducible representation for the detecting subalgebra ${\mathfrak f}$. In particular, we prove an analog of Kempf's…
In this paper we consider the category $C (\tilde k, \tilde H)$ of the $(\tilde k, \tilde H)$-modules, including all the Verma modules, where $k$ is some compact Lie algebra and H some Cartan subgroup, $\tilde k$ and $\tilde H$ are the corresponding affine Lie algebra and the affine Cartan group, respectively. To this category we apply the Zuckerman functor and its derivatives. By using the determinant bundle structure, we prove the natural duality of the Zuckerman derived functors, and deduce a Borel-Weil-Bott type theorem on decomposition of the nilpotent part cohomology.
We establish the submaximal symmetry dimension for Riemannian and Lorentzian conformal structures. The proof is based on enumerating all subalgebras of orthogonal Lie algebras of sufficiently large dimension and verifying if they stabilize a non-zero Weyl tensor up to scale. Our main technical tools include Dynkin's classification of maximal subalgebras in complex simple Lie algebras, a theorem of Mostow, and Kostant's Bott-Borel-Weil theorem.
In this paper we prove two formulas for the characters of representations of reductive groups. Both express the character of a representation in terms of the same geometric data attached to it. When specialized to the case of a compact Lie group, one of them reduces to Kirillov's character formula in the compact case, and the other, to an application of the Atiyah-Bott fixed point formula to the Borel-Weil realization of the representation.
We introduce a Banach Lie group $G$ of unitary operators subject to a natural trace condition. We compute the homotopy groups of $G$, describe its cohomology and construct an $S^1$-central extension. We show that the central extension determines a non-trivial gerbe on the action Lie groupoid $G\ltimes \mathfrak{k}$, where $\mathfrak{k}$ denotes the Hilbert space of self-adjoint Hilbert-Schmidt operators. With an eye towards constructing elements in twisted K-theory, we prove the existence of a cubic Dirac operator $\mathbb{D}$ in a suitable completion of the quantum Weil algebra $\mathcal{U}(\…
We discuss some axioms that ensure that a Hopf algebra has its simple comodules classified using an analogue of the Borel-Weil construction. More precisely we show that a Hopf algebra having a dense big cell satisfies the above requirement. This method has its roots in the work of Parshall and Wang in the case of q-deformed quantum groups GL and SL. Here we examine the example of universal cosovereign Hopf algebras, for which the weight group is the free group on two generators.
We study the algebra of regular functions on the big cell of the Gauss decomposition of a simple complex Lie group G. We prove that it is spanned by the matrix elements of big projective modules in the BGG category O, and admits a decomposition of Peter-Weyl type. The subspace of Whittaker vectors in the regular representation on the big cell gives a realization of the big projective modules in O, similar to the Borel-Weil theorem. These results can be extended to the quantum groups.
