Given a collection of N asymptotically Euclidean ends with zero scalar curvature, we construct a Riemannian manifold with zero scalar curvature and one asymptotically Euclidean end, whose boundary has a neighborhood isometric to the disjoint union of a specified collection of sub-regions of the given ends. An application is the construction of time-symmetric solutions of the constraint equations which model N-body initial data.
In this paper we address the two-body problem in massless Scalar-Tensor (ST) theories within an Effective-One-Body (EOB) framework. We focus on the first building block of the EOB approach, that is, mapping the conservative part of the two-body dynamics onto the geodesic motion of a test particle in an effective external metric. To this end, we first deduce the second post-Keplerian (2PK) Hamiltonian of the two-body problem from the known 2PK Lagrangian. We then build, by means of a canonical transformation a ST-deformation of the general relativistic EOB Hamiltonian which allows to incorporat…
Binary black hole systems are among the most important sources for gravitational wave detection. And also they are good objects for theoretical research for general relativity. Gravitational waveform template is important to data analysis. Effective-one-body-numerical-relativity (EOBNR) model has played an essential role in the LIGO data analysis. For future space-based gravitational wave detection, many binary systems will admit somewhat orbit eccentricity. At the same time the eccentric binary is also an interesting topic for theoretical study in general relativity. In this paper we construc…
We study spherically symmetric timelike thin-shells in $3+1-$dimensional bulk spacetime with a variable equation of state for the fluid presented on the shell. In such a fluid the angular pressure $p$ is a function of both surface energy density $σ$ and the radius $R$ of the thin-shell. Explicit cases of the thin shells connecting two non-identical cloud of strings spacetimes and a flat Minkowski spacetime to the Schwarzschild metric are investigated.
We consider the so-called semiclassical variant of general relativity, where gravitational field is not quantized but matter is quantized, for the simplest composite quantum body - a hydrogen atom. We create a stationary electron quantum state in the atom in the absence of gravitational field and study its time evolution in the presence of the field, using the local Lorentz invariance property of spacetime. It is shown that this state with a definite energy in the absence of gravitational field is not anymore a stationary state in the field. Therefore, quantum measurements of passive gravitati…
We study test-body orbits in the gravitational field of a static spherically symmetric object in presence of a minimally coupled nonlinear scalar field. We generated a two-parametric family of scalar field potentials, which allow finding solutions of Einstein's equations in an analytic form. The results are presented by means of hypergeometric functions; they describe either a naked singularity (NS) or a black hole (BH). Our numerical investigation shows that in both cases the stable circular orbits can form separated (non-connected) regions around the configuration. We found existence conditi…
We show that the introduction of two worldline parameters defines a different approach to computations in the effective field theory approach to the two-body problem in General Relativity and present some preliminary evidence for a reduction in computational complexity. These parameters obey a polynomial equation whose perturbative expansion recovers an infinite series of diagrams. Futhermore, we show that our equations define an effective two-body horizon for interacting particles in General Relativity; in the circular orbit case, it corresponds to the smallest conceivable separation up to wh…
The Constraints in Spherically Symmetric General Relativity I --- Optical Scalars, Foliations, Bounds on the Configuration Space Variables and the Positivity of the Quasi-Local Mass
We study 4-dimensional non-charged and charged spherically symmetric spacetimes in conformal teleparallel equivalent of general relativity. We apply the gravitational field equations in non-charged and charged spacetimes to the diagonal and non-diagonal vierbeins and derive their sets of the non-linear differential equations. It is demonstrated that the Schwarzschild, for the non-charged case, and the Reissner-Nordström, for the charged case, are the only black hole solutions for the spherically symmetric case in the framework of the conformal teleparallel equivalent of general relativity theo…
We present a general framework for calculating post-Minskowskian, classical, conservative Hamiltonians for $N$ non-spinning bodies in general relativity from relativistic scattering amplitudes. Novel features for $N>2$ are described including the subtraction of tree-like iteration contributions and the calculation of non-trivial many-body Fourier transform integrals needed to construct position space potentials. A new approach to calculating these integrals as an expansion in the hierarchical limit is described based on the method of regions. As an explicit example, we present the $\mathcal{O}…
In Ref. [1], the properties of the first gravitational wave detected by LIGO, GW150914, were measured by employing an effective-one-body (EOB) model of precessing binary black holes whose underlying dynamics and waveforms were calibrated to numerical-relativity (NR) simulations. Here, we perform the first extensive comparison of such EOBNR model to 70 precessing NR waveforms that span mass ratios from 1 to 5, dimensionless spin magnitudes up to 0.5, generic spin orientations, and length of about 20 orbits. We work in the observer's inertial frame and include all $\ell=2$ modes in the gravitati…
The two-body problem in general relativity is reduced to the problem of an effective particle (with an energy-dependent relativistic reduced mass) in an external field. The effective potential is evaluated from the Born diagram of the linearized quantum theory of gravity. It reduces to a Schwarzschild-like potential with two different `Schwarzschild radii'. The results derived in a weak field approximation are expected to be relevant for relativistic velocities.
In general relativity the affine connection is required to be symmetric so torsion is zero while according to the Einsten- Cartan's theory torsion is connected to the spin tensor as expressed by the Cartan's equations. We consider the theory of spinors in general relativity in the light of the results of Einstein Cartan's theory. In general relativity the affine connection is required to be symmetric so torsion is zero while according to the Einsten- Cartan's theory torsion is connected to the spin tensor as expressed by the Cartan's equations. One of the open problems in developing binary black hole (BBH) waveforms for gravitational wave astronomy is to model the intermediate mass ratio regime and connect it to the extreme mass ratio regime. A natural approach is to employ the effective one body (EOB) approach to the two-body dynamics that, by design, can cover the entire mass ratio range and naturally incorporates the extreme mass ratio limit. Here we use recently obtained numerical relativity (NR) data with mass ratios $m_1/m_2=(7,15,\,32,\,64,\,128)$ to test the accuracy of the state-of-the-art EOB model TEOBResumS in the interme…
