Color magnetic flux tubes appear in the color-flavor locked phase of high density QCD, which exhibits color superconductivity as well as superfluidity. They are non-Abelian superfluid vortices and are accompanied by orientational zero modes in the internal space associated with the color-flavor locked symmetry spontaneously broken in the presence of the vortex. We show that those zero modes are localized around the vortex in spite of the logarithmic divergence of its tension, and derive the low-energy effective theory of them on the world-sheet of the vortex-string.
QCD is expected to be in the color-flavor locking phase in high baryon density, which exhibits color superconductivity. The most fundamental topological objects in the color superconductor are non-Abelian vortices which are topologically stable color magnetic flux tubes. We present numerical solutions of the color magnetic flux tube for diverse choices of the coupling constants. We also analytically study its asymptotic profiles and find that they are different from the case of usual superconductors. We propose the width of color magnetic fluxes and find that it is larger than naive expectatio…
For the four-dimensional SU(N) Euclidean Yang-Mills theory in the Landau gauge, we present two sets of gauge field configurations that satisfy the Euclidean equations of motion. These configurations generate four-dimensional chromo-field flux sheets whose spatial cross sections are three-dimensional chromo-field flux tubes. In lattice simulations, they may be detected as center vortices. The first set of gauge field configurations generates chromo-electric flux tubes that should contribute to a chromo-electric flux tube between two static color charges. The string tension for two static color …
It is shown that in the SU(2) Yang - Mills - Higgs theory with broken gauge symmetry a flux tube solution filled with a color longitudinal electric field exists. The origin of the gauge symmetry breakdown for this case is discussed.
The flux tube solution in the Euclidean spacetime with the color longitudinal electric field in the SU(2) Yang - Mills - Higgs theory with broken gauge symmetry is found. Some arguments is given that this flux tube is a pure quantum object in the SU(3) quantum theory reduced to the SU(2) Yang - Mills - Higgs theory.
The probability of color tube fission that includes the tube surface small oscillation corrections is obtained with pre-exponential factor accuracy on the basis of previously constructed color tube model. Using these expressions the probability of the tube fission in $n$ point is obtained that is the basis for calculation of inclusive spectra of produced hadrons.
The Nielsen - Olesen flux tube in the SU(2) Yang - Mills - Higgs theory dressed with the color electric $E^a_{ρ,ϕ}$ and magnetic $H^a_{ρ,ϕ}$ fields is derived. On the next step it is argued that this flux tube can be considered as a result of the nonperturbatuve analytical calculations in the SU(3) quantum theory.
We study the system of multi color-flux-tubes in terms of the dual Ginzburg -Landau theory. We consider two ideal cases, where the directions of all the color-flux-tubes are the same in one case and alternative in the other case for neighboring flux-tubes. We formulate the system of multi color-flux -tubes by regarding it as the system of two color-flux-tubes penetrating through a two dimensional sphere surface. We find the multi flux-tube configuration becomes uniform above some critical flux-tube number density $ρ_c = 1.3 \sim 1.7 {\rm fm}^{-2}$. On the other hand, the inhomogeneity on the c…
Within the framework of the color flux-tube model with a multibody confinement potential, we systematically investigate the hidden charmed states observed in recent years. It can be found that most of them can be described as the compact tetraquark states $[cq][\bar{c}\bar{q}]$ ($q=u,d$ and $s$) in the color flux-tube model. The multibody confinement potential based on the color flux-tube picture is a dynamical mechanism in the formation and decay of the compact tetraquark states.
We adress the question of how a $c-\bar{c}$-state (a $J/ψ$) can be dissociated by the strong color electric fields when moving through a color electric flux tube. The color electric flux tube and the dissociation of the heavy quarkonia state are both described within the Friedberg-Lee color dielectric model. We speculate on the importance of such an effect with respect to the observed $J/ψ$-suppression in ultrarelativistic heavy ion collisions.
The study of transverse-momentum spectra of quarks and gluons produced by the color electric flux tube decaying through the Schwinger tunneling mechanism is reviewed. The hints for a fast hydrodynamization in the ultra-relativistic heavy-ion collisions are found.
Colorelectric and Colormagnetic structure of the flux tubes, connecting heavy quark and antiquark, is investigated in the framework of the Field Correlator method which describes all resulting fields in terms of correlators $D^E$ and $D^E_1$. The latter have been computed via gluelumps, which allows to predict the resulting distribution of color fields $\mathbf{E} (\mathbf{r}),$ and colormagnetic currents $\mathbf{k} (\mathbf{r})$ in the flux tubes. It is shown, that at large distances $r\gg λ\approx 0.2$ fm the whole structure of fields and relations between them is similar to that of the dua…
We argue that if color-superconducting quark matter exists in the core of a neutron star, it may contain a high density of flux tubes, carrying flux that is mostly color-magnetic, with a small admixture of ordinary magnetic flux. We focus on the two-flavor color-superconducting ("2SC") phase, and assume that the flux tubes are energetically stable, although this has not yet been demonstrated. The density of flux tubes depends on the nature of the transition to the color-superconducting phase, and could be within an order of magnitude of the density of magnetic flux tubes that would be found if…
Kinetic equations are used to study thermalization of the anisotropic quark-gluon plasma produced by decays of color flux tubes possibly created at the very early stages of relativistic heavy-ion collisions. The decay rates of the initial color tubes are given by the Schwinger formula, while the collision terms are taken in the relaxation-time approximation. By connecting the relaxation time with viscosity we analyze production and thermalization processes in the plasma characterized by different values of the ratio of the shear viscosity to entropy density.
We provide a detailed introduction to a method we recently proposed for calculating the spectrum of excitations of effective strings such as QCD flux tubes. The method relies on the approximate integrability of the low energy effective theory describing the flux tube excitations and is is based on the Thermodynamic Bethe Ansatz (TBA). The approximate integrability is a consequence of the Lorentz symmetry of QCD. For excited states the convergence of the TBA technique is significantly better than that of the traditional perturbative approach. We apply the new technique to the lattice spectra fo…
The primary inclusive spectra and correlation functions of particles created by color tube fission are considered. Using the previously obtained expression for probability of the tube breaking in n points we have calculated the one and two particle inclusive spectra of tube pieces as well as pseudoscalar and vector mesons in plateau area. It is shown that the plateau height of the one particle inclusive spectrum is determined by the flavor quark composition and spin of hadron. Small oscillations of the tube surface give only small correction to the main term. The correlation functions of fixed…
Encouraged by the observation of the pentaquark states $P^+_c(4380)$ and $P^+_c(4450)$, we propose a novel color flux-tube structure, pentagonal state, for pentaquark states within the framework of color flux-tube mode involving a five-body confinement potential. Numerical results on the heavy pentaquark states indicate that the states with three color flux-tube structures, diquark, octet and pentagonal structures, have the close masses, which can therefore be called QCD isomers analogous to isomers in Chemistry. The pentagonal structure has lowest energy. The state $P^+_c(4380)$ can be descri…
We propose a novel phenomenological model of mean transverse momentum fluctuations based on the Geometrical Scaling hypothesis. Bose-Einstein correlations between two gluons generated from an identical color flux tube are taken into account as a source of the fluctuation. We calculate an event-by-event fluctuation measure $\sqrt{C_m}/\langle p_{\rm T}\rangle$ and show that ALICE data observed at $\sqrt s=$0.90 TeV for $p$+$p$ collisions are reproduced. By fitting our model to the experimental data, we evaluate the transverse size of the color flux tube as a function of the multiplicity.
The color flux tube connecting a static quark-anti-quark pair in Yang-Mills theory supports massless transverse fluctuations, which are the Goldstone bosons of spontaneously broken translation invariance. Just as in chiral perturbation theory, the dynamics of these Goldstone bosons is described by a systematic low-energy effective field theory. We use the effective theory to calculate the width of the fluctuating string at the 2-loop level, using both cylindrical and toroidal boundary conditions. At zero temperature, the string width diverges logarithmically with the quark-anti-quark distance …
We present an analytic study of the physics of the glasma which is a strong classical gluon field created at early stage of high-energy heavy-ion collisions. Our analysis is based on the picture that the glasma just after the collision is made of color electric and magnetic flux tubes extending in the longitudinal direction with their diameters of the order of 1/Q_s (Q_s is the saturation scale of the colliding nuclei). We find that both the electric and magnetic flux tubes expand outwards and the field strength inside the flux tube decays rapidly in time. Next we investigate whether there exi…
The production of quark-antiquark pairs along a color flux tube precedes the fragmentation of the tube. Because of local conservation laws, the production of a $q$-$\bar q$ pair will lead to correlations of adjacently produced mesons (mostly pions). Adjacently produced mesons however can be signalled by their rapidity difference $Δy$ falling within the window of $|Δy | $$\lesssim$$ 1/(dN/dy)$, on account of the space-time-rapidity ordering of produced mesons in a flux tube fragmentation. Therefore, the local conservation laws of momentum, charge, and flavor will lead to a suppression of angula…
Axial charge production at the early stage of heavy-ion collisions is investigated within the framework of real-time lattice simulations at leading order in QCD coupling. Starting from color glass condensate initial conditions, the time evolution of quantum quark fields under classical color gauge fields is computed on a lattice in longitudinally expanding geometry. We consider simple color charge distributions in Lorentz contracted nuclei that realize flux tube-like configurations of color fields carrying nonzero topological charge after a collision. By employing the Wilson fermion extended t…
Using the framework of the Chromo Dielectric Model we perform an analysis of color electric flux tubes in meson-like $q\bar{q}$ and baryon-like $qqq$ quark configurations. We discuss the Abelian color structure of the model and point out a symmetry in color space as a remnant of the SU(3) symmetry of QCD. The generic features of the model are discussed by varying the model parameters. We fix these parameters by reproducing the string tension $τ=980 $MeV/fm and the transverse width $ρ=0.35 $fm of the $q\bar{q}$ flux tube obtained in lattice calculations. We use a bag constant $B^{1/4}=(240-260)…
We compute the production of gluons from Glasma color flux tubes. We calculate the probability distribution of gluon multiplicities arising from the distribution of color electric and color magnetic flux tubes found in the Glasma. We show that the result corresponds to the negative binomial probability distribution observed in experiments. The parameter k that characterizes this distribution is proportional to the number of colors N_c^2-1 and to the number of flux tubes. For one gluon color and one flux tube, the multiplicity distribution is close to a Bose-Einstein distribution. We call this …
We study the Z_N flux tubes and monopole confinement in deformed N=2* super Yang-Mills theories. In order to do that we consider an N=4 super Yang-Mills theory with an arbitrary gauge group G and add some N=2, N=1 and N=0 deformation terms. We analyze some possible vacuum solutions and phases of the theory, depending on the deformation terms which are added. In the Coulomb phase for the N=2* theory, G is broken to U(1)^r and the theory has monopole solutions. Then, by adding some deformation terms, the theory passes to the Higgs or color superconducting phase, in which G is broken to its cente…
Quark matter at high density may exhibit color superconductivity. As magnetic flux tubes in metallic superconductors, color magnetic flux tubes as non-Abelian vortices appear in the color-flavor locked phase of high density QCD. ${\mathbb C}P^2$ Nambu-Goldstone bosons and Majorana fermions belonging to the triplet representation are known to be localized around a non-Abelian vortex. In this paper, we determine the coupling of these bosonic and fermionic modes by using the nonlinear realization method.
Color-flavor locked (CFL) quark matter expels color-magnetic fields due to the Meissner effect. One of these fields carries an admixture of the ordinary abelian magnetic field and therefore flux tubes may form if CFL matter is exposed to a magnetic field, possibly in the interior of neutron stars or in quark stars. We employ a Ginzburg-Landau approach for three massless quark flavors, which takes into account the multi-component nature of color superconductivity. Based on the weak-coupling expressions for the Ginzburg-Landau parameters, we identify the regime where CFL is a type-II color super…
Detailed study of thermalization of the momentum spectra of partons produced via decays of the color flux tubes due to the Schwinger tunneling mechanism is presented. The collisions between particles are included in the relaxation time approximation specified by different values of the shear viscosity to entropy density ratio. At first we show that, to a good approximation, the transverse-momentum spectra of the produced patrons are exponential, irrespectively from the assumed value of the viscosity of the system and the freeze-out time. This thermal-like behaviour may be attributed to specifi…
We investigate the consequences of long range rapidity correlations in the Glasma. Particles produced locally in the transverse plane are correlated by approximately boost invariant flux tubes of longitudinal color electric and magnetic fields that are formed when two sheets of Colored Glass Condensate pass through one another, each acquiring a modified color charge density in the collision. We argue that such long range rapidity correlations persist during the evolution of the Quark Gluon Plasma formed later in the collision. When combined with transverse flow, these correlations reproduce ma…
We measure the spatial distribution of all components of the color fields surrounding a static quark antiquark pair in QCD with (2+1) HISQ flavors. We isolate the nonperturbative component of the longitudinal chromoelectric color field responsible for the linear term in the confining potential.
A set of kinetic equations is used to study equilibration of the anisotropic quark-gluon plasma produced by decays of color flux tubes possibly created at the very early stages of ultra-relativistic heavy-ion collisions. The decay rates of the initial color fields are given by the Schwinger formula, and the collision terms are treated in the relaxation-time approximation. By connecting the relaxation time with viscosity we are able to study production and thermalization processes in the plasma characterized by different values of the ratio of the shear viscosity to entropy density, eta/s. For …
We argue that the non-perturbative Schwinger mechanism may play an important role in the hadronic production of charm. We present a flux tube model which assumes that the colliding hadrons become color charged because of gluon exchange, and that a single non-elementary flux tube is built up as they recede. The strong chromoelectric field inside this tube creates quark pairs (including charmed ones) and the ensuing color screening breaks the tube into excited hadronic clusters. On their turn these clusters, or `fireballs', decay statistically into the final hadrons. The model is able to account…
In order to study the detailed dynamics and associated non-perturbative features of QCD, a dual version of the color gauge theory based on the topologically viable homogeneous fiber bundle approach has been analysed taking into account its magnetic symmetry structure. In the dynamically broken phase of magnetic symmetry, the associated flux tube structure on a S 2 -sphere in the magnetically condensed state of the dual QCD vacuum has been analyzed for the profiles of the color electric field using flux quantization and stability conditions. The color electric field has its intimate association…
We discuss here the novel view at the color confinement which, on the one hand, allows us to find out the surface tension coefficient of quark gluon bags and, under a plausible assumption, to determine the endpoint temperature of the QCD phase diagram, on the other hand. The present model considers the confining color tube as the cylindrical quark gluon bag with non-zero surface tension. A close inspection of the free energies of elongated cylindrical bag and the confining color tube that connects the static quark-antiquark pair allows us to find out the string tension in terms of the surface …
A dynamical model of confinement based on a microscopic transport description of the Friedberg-Lee model is extended to explicit color degrees of freedom. The string tension is reproduced by an adiabatic string formation from the nucleon ground state. As a particular application, we address the question of how a charmonium state might be dissociated by the strong color electric fields when moving through a color electric flux tube and speculate on the importance of such an effect with respect to the issue of $J/ψ$--suppression observed in ultrarelativistic heavy ion collisions. Furthermore, we…
In the fragmentation of a color flux tube in high-energy $pp$ collisions or $e^+$-$e^-$ annihilations, the production of $q$-$\bar q$ pairs along a color flux tube precedes the fragmentation of the tube. The local conservation laws in the production of these $q$-$\bar q$ pairs will lead to the correlations of adjacently produced hadrons. As a consequence, the fragmentation of a flux tube will yield a many-hadron correlation in the form of a chain of hadrons ordered in rapidity, with adjacent hadrons correlated in charges, flavor contents, and azimuthal angles. It will also lead to a two-hadron…
Using some assumptions about the correlation function of velocity in a turbulent flow, a cylindrically symmetric tube-like solution is obtained. It is proposed that this turbulent flow is similar to a flux tube in quantum chromodynamics. Using similar assumptions for quantum chromodynamics, a flux tube filled with a color electric field is obtained. The connection between turbulence theory and quantum chromodynamics is discussed.
Electric flux tubes are a well known attribute of the QCD vacuum in which they manifest confinement of electric color charges. Recently, experimental results have appeared suggesting that not only those objects persist at temperatures $T\approx T_c$ near the QCD phase transitions, but their decay is suppressed and the resulting clusters in AuAu collisions are larger than in pp (i.e. in vacuum). This correlates well with recent theoretical scenarios that view the QCD matter in the $T\approx T_{c}$ region as a dual-magnetic plasma dominated by color-magnetic monopoles. In this view the flux tube…
In this article we obtain the energy spectrum of colored, spinor particles in chromoelectric flux tubes. The chromoelectric field of the flux tubes considered here comes from {\em simply} constant gauge potentials rather than from covariantly constant gauge potential, as is usually the case. The energy spectrum of the simply constant flux tubes is different than that of the covariantly constant flux tubes. The spectrum is discrete due to the walls of the tube and with a plus/minus constant shift depending on the magnitude of the constant chromoelectric background. This goes against the classic…
In this study we model early times dynamics of the system produced in relativistic heavy ion collisions by an initial color electric field which then decays to a plasma by the Schwinger mechanism, coupling the dynamical evolution of the initial color field to the dynamics of the many particles system produced by the decay. The latter is described by relativistic kinetic theory in which we fix the ratio $η/s$ rather than insisting on specific microscopic processes. We study isotropization and thermalization of the system produced by the field decay for a static box and for a $1+1$D expanding ge…
We describe flux tubes and their interactions in a low energy sigma model induced by $SU({N_f}) \rightarrow SO({N_f})$ flavor symmetry breaking in $SO(N_c)$ QCD. Unlike standard QCD, this model allows gauge confinement to manifest itself in the low energy theory, which has unscreened spinor color sources and global $Z_2$ flux tubes. We construct the flux tubes and show how they mediate the confinement of spinor sources. We further examine the flux tubes' quantum stability, spectrum and interactions. We find that flux tubes are Alice strings, despite ambiguities in defining parallel transport. …
It is quite plausible that color superconductivity occurs in the inner regions of neutron stars. At the same time, it is known that strong magnetic fields exist in the interior of these compact objects. In this paper we discuss some important effects that can occur in the color superconducting core of compact stars due to the presence of the stars' magnetic field. In particular, we consider the modification of the gluon dynamics for a color superconductor with three massless quark flavors in the presence of an external magnetic field. We show that the long-range component of the external magne…
In this work we compute the color fields in the mediator plane between a static quark and a static antiquark using quenched lattice QCD. In special, we see the effect of the quark-antiquark distance on the flux tube. To obtain this results an improved multihit technique is developed and an extend smearing technique is used. Then, we also discuss the flux-tubes in a system composed of two quarks and two antiquarks. The ground and first excited states fields are studied for different dispositions of the system.
In the framework of color flux-tube model with a four-body confinement potential, the lowest charged tetraquark states $[Qq][\bar{Q}'\bar{q}']~(Q=c,b,q=u,d,s)$ are studied by using the variational method, Gaussian expansion method. The results indicate that some compact resonance states can be formed, the states can not decay into two color singlet mesons $Q\bar{q}'$ and $\bar{Q}'q$ through the breakdown and recombination of color flux tubes but into $Q\bar{Q}'$ and $q\bar{q}'$. The four-body confinement potential is an crucial dynamical mechanism for the formation of states, The decay mechani…
The high energy limit of QCD is controlled by very high energy density gluonic matter, the Color Glass Condensate. In the first instants of the collisions of two sheets of Colored Glass Condensate, a Glasma is formed with longitudinal flux tubes of color electric and magnetic fields. These flux tubes decay and might form a turbulent liquid that eventually thermalizes into a Quark Gluon Plasma
We study cylindrically symmetric solutions within SU(3) non-Abelian Proca theory coupled to a Higgs scalar field. The solutions describe tubes containing either the flux of a color electric field or the energy flux and momentum. It is shown that the existence of such tubes depends crucially on the presence of the Higgs field (there are no such solutions without this field). We examine the dependence of the integral characteristics (linear energy and momentum densities) on the values of the electromagnetic potentials at the center of the tube, as well as on the values of the coupling constant o…
Inspired by the states $T_{cs0}(2900)^0$, $T_{cs1}(2900)^0$, $T^a_{c\bar{s}0}(2900)^{0}$ and $T^a_{c\bar{s}0}(2900)^{++}$ reported by the LHCb Collaboration, we carry out a systematical investigation on the properties of the ground and $P$-wave states $[cs][\bar{u}\bar{d}]$ and $[cu][\bar{s}\bar{d}]$ with various spin, isospin or $U$-spin, and color combinations in a multiquark color flux-tube model. Matching our results with the spin-parity and mass of the states $T_{cs0}(2900)^0$ and $T_{cs1}(2900)^0$, we can describe them as the compact states $[cs][\bar{u}\bar{d}]$ with $I(J^{P})=1(0^+)$ a…
We systematically investigate the stability of the doubly heavy tetraquark states $[QQ][\bar{q}\bar{q}]$ ($Q=c$ and $b$, $q=u$, $d$ and $s$) within the framework of the color flux-tube model involving a multibody confinement potential, $σ$-exchange, one-gluon-exchange and one-Goldstone-boson-exchange interactions. Our numerical analysis indicates that the states $[bb][\bar{u}\bar{d}]$ with $01^+$ and $[bb][\bar{u}\bar{s}]$ with $\frac{1}{2}1^+$ are the most promising stable states against strong interactions. The states $[cc][\bar{u}\bar{d}]$ with $01^+$, $[bc][\bar{u}\bar{d}]$ with $00^+$, $0…
We bootstrap the S-matrix of massless particles in unitary, relativistic two dimensional quantum field theories. We find that the low energy expansion of such S-matrices is strongly constrained by the existence of a UV completion. In the context of flux tube physics, this allows us to constrain several terms in the S-matrix low energy expansion or -- equivalently -- on Wilson coefficients of several irrelevant operators showing up in the flux tube effective action. These bounds have direct implications for other physical quantities; for instance, they allow us to further bound the ground state…
An attempt to adapt the study of color flux tubes to the case of finite temperature has been made. The field is measured both through the correlator of two Polyakov loops, one of which connected to a plaquette, and through a connected correlator of Wilson loop and plaquette in the spatial sublattice. Still the profile of the flux tube resembles the transverse field distribution around an isolated vortex in an ordinary superconductor. The temperature dependence of all the parameters characterizing the flux tube is investigated.
We investigate the effects of an external magnetic field in the gluon dynamics of a color superconductor with three massless quark flavors. In the framework of gluon mean-field theory at asymptotic densities, we show that the long-range component $\widetilde{H}$ of the external magnetic field that penetrates the CFL phase produces an instability when its strength becomes larger than the Meissner mass of the charged gluons. As a consequence, the magnetic field causes the formation of a vortex state characterized by the condensation of charged gluons and the creation of magnetic flux tubes. Insi…
Using chiral anomaly, we discuss the pair creation of massless fermions in an electric flux tube $\vec{E}$ under homogeneous magnetic field $\vec{B}$ parallel to $\vec{E}$. The tube is axial symmetric and infinitely long in longitudinal direction. In the limit $B\gg E$, we can analytically obtain the spatial and temporal behaviors of the electric field and azimuthal magnetic field generated by the produced fermions. We find that the life time $t_c$ of the electric field is shorter as the width of the tube is narrower. Applying it to the glasma in high-energy heavy-ion collisions, we find that …
