Using chiral anomaly, we discuss the pair creation of massless fermions under the effect of magnetic field $\vec{B}$ when an electric flux tube $\vec{E}$ parallel to $\vec{B}$ is switched on. The tube is axial symmetric and infinitely long. In the limit $B\gg E$, we can analytically obtain the spatial and temporal behaviors of the number density of the fermions, the azimuthal magnetic field generated by the fermions etc.. We find that the life time $t_c$ of the electric field is shorter as the width of the tube is narrower. Applying it to the glasma in high-energy heavy-ion collisions, we find that color electric field decays fast such as $t_c\simeq Q_s^{-1}$ with saturation momentum $Q_s$.
Using chiral anomaly, we discuss the pair creation of massless fermions in an electric flux tube $\vec{E}$ under homogeneous magnetic field $\vec{B}$ parallel to $\vec{E}$. Pair creation in a uniform classical electromagnetic field (Schwinger mechanism) is studied focusing on the time evolution of the distribution of created particles. The time evolution of the distribution in time-dependent fields is also presented as well as effects of back reaction. Motivated by the Glasma flux tube, which may be formed at the initial stage of heavy-ion collisions, we investigate effects of a magnetic field parallel to an electric field, and find that the magnetic field makes the evolution of a fermion system faster.
It is known that the contribution of torsion to the equation for the chiral Weyl fermions can be equivalently considered in terms of the axial $U(1)$ gauge field. In this scenario the gravitational field transforms to the $U(1)$ gauge field. Here we show that in chiral superconductors the opposite scenario takes place: the electromagnetic $U(1)$ field serves as the spin connection for the Bogoliubov fermionic quasiparticles. As a result the electromagnetic field gives rise to the gravitational anomaly, which contains the extra factor $1/3$ in the corresponding Adler-Bell-Jackiw equation as com…
Axial charge production at the early stage of heavy-ion collisions is investigated within the framework of real-time lattice simulations at leading order in QCD coupling. Starting from color glass condensate initial conditions, the time evolution of quantum quark fields under classical color gauge fields is computed on a lattice in longitudinally expanding geometry. We consider simple color charge distributions in Lorentz contracted nuclei that realize flux tube-like configurations of color fields carrying nonzero topological charge after a collision. By employing the Wilson fermion extended t…
Cosmological evolution and particle creation in $R^2$-modified gravity are considered for the case of the dominant decay of the scalaron into a pair of gauge bosons due to conformal anomaly. It is shown that in the process of thermalization superheavy dark matter with the coupling strength typical for the GUT SUSY can be created. Such dark matter would have the proper cosmological density if the particle mass is close to $10^{12}$ GeV.
It is shown that parity operator plays an interesting role in Dirac equation in (1+2) dimensions and can be used for defining chiral currents. It is shown that the "anomalous" current induced by an external gauge field can be related to the anomalous divergence of an axial vector current which arises due to quantum radiative corrections provided by triangular loop Feynman diagrams in analogy with the corresponding axial anomaly in (1+3) dimensions. It is shown that the non-conservation of "chiral charge" due to anomaly is related with the topological Chern-Simons charge. As an application pair…
Upon embedding the axion-inflation in the minimal left-right symmetric gauge extension of the SM with gauge group $SU(2)_L\times SU(2)_R \times U(1)_{B-L}$, [arXiv:2012.11516] proposed a new particle physics model for inflation. In this work, we present a more detailed analysis. As a compelling consequence, this setup provides a new mechanism for simultaneous baryogenesis and right-handed neutrino creation by the chiral anomaly of $W_R$ in inflation. The lightest right-handed neutrino is the dark matter candidate. This setup has two unknown fundamental scales, i.e., the scale of inflation and …
It was previously shown within chiral perturbation theory that the ground state of QCD in a sufficiently large magnetic field and at nonvanishing, but not too large, baryon chemical potential is a so-called chiral soliton lattice. The crucial ingredient of this observation was the chiral anomaly in the form of a Wess-Zumino-Witten term, which couples the baryon chemical potential to the magnetic field and the gradient of the neutral pion field. It was also shown that the chiral soliton lattice becomes unstable towards charged pion condensation at larger magnetic fields. We point out that this …
We present a field theoretical model of anomalous transport in Weyl semi-metals. We calculate the Chiral Magnetic and Chiral Vortical Effect in the electric, axial (valley) and energy current. Our findings coincide with the results of a recent analysis using kinetic theory in the bulk of the material. We point out that the kinetic currents have to be identified with the covariant currents in quantum field theory. These currents are anomalous and the CME appears as anomalous charge creation/annihilation at the edges of the Weyl semi-metal. We discuss a possible simultaneous experimental test of…
In this work the influence of the chiral anomaly effect on the evolution of magnetohydrodynamic turbulence was studied. We argue that in the early universe, before the electroweak symmetry breaking, and for temperatures high enough such that the electron mass can be ignored, the description of a charged plasma in general needs to take into account the interplay between turbulence and the anomaly effects. It was demonstrated that this generalization can have important consequences on the evolution of turbulence, leading to the creation of maximally-helical fields from initially non-helical ones…
We investigate decay and production of neutral pions in strong magnetic fields. In the presence of strong magnetic fields, transition between a neutral pion and a virtual photon becomes possible through the triangle diagram relevant for the chiral anomaly. We find that the decay mode of a neutral pion into two photons cannot persist in the dominant mode in strong magnetic fields, and that decay into a dilepton instead dominates over the other modes. We also investigate the effects of magnetic fields on prompt virtual photons created in ultrarelativistic heavy-ion collisions. There is no anisot…
Using the $e^+e^-$ pair spectrometer at the 5 MV Van de Graaff accelerator at the Institute for Nuclear Research, Hungarian Academy of Sciences (ATOMKI), Krasznahorkay et al. have claimed a 6.8$σ$ excess at high $e^+e^-$ opening angles in the internal pair creation isoscalar transition $^8\mathrm{Be}(18.15)\to\,^8\mathrm{Be}\,e^+e^-$. A hypothetical gauge boson with the mass circa $17$ MeV, "X17", has been proposed as an explanation for the excess. We show that the observed experimental structure can be reproduced within the Standard Model by adding the full set of second-order corrections and…
We report the generation of a pseudovector electric current having imbalanced chirality in an electron-positron strongly magnetized gas in QED. It propagates along the external applied magnetic field B as a chiral magnetic effect in QED. It is triggered by a perturbative electric field parallel to B, associated to a pseudovector longitudinal mode propagating along B. An electromagnetic chemical potential was introduced, but our results remain valid even for vanishing chemical potential. A nonzero fermion mass was assumed, which is usually considered vanishing in the literature. In the quantum …
We consider the properties of the type II Weyl semimetals at low temperatures basing on the particular tight - binding model. In the presence of electric field directed along the line connecting the Weyl points of opposite chirality the occupied states flow along this axis giving rise to the creation of electron - hole pairs. The electrons belong to a vicinity of one of the two type II Weyl points while the holes belong to the vicinity of the other. This process may be considered as the manifestation of the chiral anomaly that exists without any external magnetic field. It may be observed expe…
We analyse solutions of the MHD equations around the electroweak transition taking into account the effects of the chiral anomaly. It is shown that a transition that is not of the first order has direct consequences on the evolution of the asymmetry between left- and right-handed leptons. Assuming an initial chiral asymmetry in the symmetric phase at temperatures higher than the transition temperature, as well as the existence of magnetic fields, it is demonstrated that the asymmetry typically grows with time, until it undergoes a fast decrease at the transition, and then eventually gets dampe…
We investigate axial charge production in two-color QCD out of equilibrium. We compute the real-time evolution starting with spatially homogeneous strong gauge fields, while the fermions are in vacuum. The idealized class of initial conditions is motivated by glasma flux tubes in the context of heavy-ion collisions. We focus on axial charge production at early times, where important aspects of the anomalous dynamics can be derived analytically. This is compared to real-time lattice simulations. Quark production at early times leading to anomalous charge generation is investigated using Wilson …
