Two atoms in an optical lattice may be made to interact strongly at higher partial waves near a Feshbach resonance. These atoms, under appropriate constraints, could be bosonic or fermionic. The universal $l=2$ energy spectrum for such a system, with a caveat, is presented in this paper, and checked with the spectrum obtained by direct numerical integration of the Schrödinger equation. The results reported here extend those of Yip for p-wave resonance (Phys. Rev. A {\bf 78}, 013612 (2008)), while exploring the limitations of a universal expression for the spectrum for the higher partial waves.
Feshbach resonances are among the essential control tools used in ultracold atom experiments. However, for complex atomic species the theoretical characterization of resonances becomes challenging. For closely spaced resonances, the measurement of three-body losses does not provide sufficient resolution to discriminate them. For this reason, resonance spectroscopy of trapped isolated atoms is becoming the state of the art. Here we show that trapping the atoms in a double well potential such as an optical lattice or a pair of optical tweezers enables precise characterization of not only the res…
We systematically studied the two-body loss in a two-component Fermi gas of $^6$Li atoms near a p-wave Feshbach resonance. The two-body loss rate constants were measured for various temperatures and magnetic fields using atoms trapped in three-dimensional and quasi-two-dimensional traps. Our results were nicely reproduced by a theoretical model that incorporates the two-body loss as an imaginary part to the inverse of the scattering volume in the scattering amplitude expression. The observed loss suppression in quasi-two-dimensional traps may provide a promising strategy to realize a p-wave su…
We produce Bose-Einstein condensates of $^{162}$Dy atoms employing an innovative technique based on a resonator-enhanced optical trap that allows efficient loading from the magneto-optical trap and fast evaporation. We characterize the scattering properties of the ultracold atoms for magnetic fields between 6 and 30 G. In addition to the typical chaotic distribution of narrow Feshbach resonances in Lanthanides, we discover two rather isolated broad features at around 22 G and 27 G. A characterization using the complementary measurements of losses, thermalization, anisotropic expansion and mole…

We investigate the inhomogeneous Fulde-Ferrell-Larkin-Ovchinnikov (FFLO) and homogeneous Sarma superfluid states in alkaline-earth-like $^{173}$Yb atomic gases near an orbital Feshbach resonance at zero temperature with population imbalances in both the open and closed channels (or bands). We find that in homogeneous space by adjusting the open-channel Zeeman energy $h_o$, both the Sarma and Fulde-Ferrell superfluid states are greatly enhanced by the spin-exchange interaction while the closed-channel Zeeman energy $h_c$ remains small. In the presence of an external harmonic trap, the trapped g…
Paraexcitons, the lowest energy exciton states in Cu$_{2}$O, have been considered a good system for realizing exciton Bose-Einstein condensation (BEC). The fact that their BEC has not been attained so far is attributed to a collision-induced loss, whose nature remains unclear. To understand collisional properties of cold paraexcitons governing their BEC, we perform here a microscopic consideration of the s-wave paraexciton-paraexciton scattering. We show its two-channel character with incoming paraexcitons coupled to a biexciton, which is a Feshbach resonance producing a paraexciton loss and a…
Three-body recombination is a phenomenon common in atomic and molecular collisions, producing heating in the system. However, we find the cooling effect of the three-body recombination of a 6Li Fermi gas near its s-wave narrow Feshbach resonance. Such counter-intuitive behavior is explained as follows, the threshold energy of the quasi-bounded Feshbach molecule acts as the knife of cooling, expelling the scattering atoms with selected kinetic energy from the trap. When the threshold energy happens to be larger than 3/2kBT, each lost atom in the three-body recombination process has more than 3k…
We study the confinement-induced resonance (CIR) of $^{173}$Yb atoms near an orbital Feshbach resonance in a quasi-one-dimensional tube with transversal anisotropy. By solving the two-body scattering problem, we obtain the location of CIR for various anisotropy ratio and magnetic field. Our results show that the anisotropy of the trapping potential can serve as an additional knob to tune the location of CIR. In particular, one can shift the location of CIR to the region attainable in current experiment. We also study the energy spectrum of the system and analyze the properties of CIR from the …
Comment on "Feshbach-Einstein Condensates" by V. G. Rousseau and P. J. H. Denteneer
在最近的一篇论文中(Phys. Rev. Lett.
By including the effect of a trap with characteristic energy given by the Fermi temperature $T_F$ in a two-body two-channel model for Feshbach resonances, we reproduce the experimental closed-channel fraction $Z$ across the BEC-BCS crossover and into the BCS regime of a $^6$Li atomic Fermi gas. We obtain the expected behavior $Z \propto \sqrt{T_F}$ at unitarity, together with the recently measured proportionality constant. Our results are also in agreement with recent measurements of the $Z$ dependency on $T_F$ on the BCS side, where a significant discrepancy between experiments and theory has…
We report on the observation of Feshbach resonances at low magnetic field strength (below 10 G) in the Fermi-Fermi mixture of $^{161}$Dy and $^{40}$K. We characterize five resonances by measurements of interspecies thermalization rates and molecular binding energies. As a case of particular interest for applications, we consider a resonance near 7.29 G, which combines accurate magnetic tunability and access to the universal regime of interactions with experimental simplicity. We show that lifetimes of a few 100 ms can be achieved for the optically trapped, resonantly interacting mixture. We al…
Dynamics of atomic and molecular solitary waves inatom-molecular hybrid Bose-Einstein condensates coupled by Magnetic Feshbach Resonance: Role of induced decays of Feshbach Molecules
We demonstrate the production of large $^7$Li Bose-Einstein condensates in an optical dipole trap using $D_1$ gray molasses. The sub-Doppler cooling technique reduces the temperature of $4\times10^9$ atoms to $25~μ$K in 3~ms. After microwave evaporation cooling in a magnetic quadrupole trap, we transfer the atoms to a crossed optical dipole trap, where we employ a magnetic Feshbach resonance on the $|F=1,m_F=1\rangle$ state. Fast evaporation cooling is achieved by tilting the optical potential using a magnetic field gradient on the top of the Feshbach field. Our setup produces pure condensates…
Motivated by recent experiments, we present the time-optimal variational control of bright matter-wave soliton trapped in a quasi-one-dimensional harmonic trap by manipulating the atomic attraction through Feshbach resonances. More specially, we first apply a time-dependent variational method to derive the motion equation for capturing the soliton's shape, and secondly combine inverse engineering with optimal control theory to design the atomic interaction for implementing time-optimal decompression. Since the time-optimal solution is of bang-bang type, the smooth regularization is further ado…
The dynamics of matter waves in the atomic to molecular condensate transition with a time-modulated atomic scattering length is investigated. Both the cases of rapid and slow modulations are studied. In the case of rapid modulations, the average over oscillations for the system is derived. The corresponding conditions for dynamical suppression of the association of atoms into the molecular field, or of second-harmonic generation in nonlinear optical systems, are obtained. For the case of slow modulations, we find resonant enhancement in the molecular field. We then illustrate chaos in the atom…
