We propose a scheme for electrical measurement of two-electron spin states in a semiconductor double quantum dot. We calculated the adiabatic charge transfer when surface gates are modulated in time. Because of spin-orbit coupling in the semiconductor, spatial displacement of the electrons causes a total spin rotation. It follows that the expectation value of the transferred charge reflects the relative phase as well as the total spin population of a prepared singlet-triplet superposition state. The precise detection of the charge transfer serves to identify the quantum superposition.
We report the inclusion of phonon scattering to our recently established numerical package QmeQ for transport in quantum dot systems. This enables straightforward calculations for a large variety of devices. As examples we show (i) transport in a double-dot structure, where energy relaxation is crucial to match the energy difference between the levels, and (ii) the generation of electrical power by contacting cold electric contacts with quantum dot states, which are subjected to heated phonons.
A gate electric field has a small but non-negligible effect on the phase of the valley-orbit coupling in Si quantum dots. Finite interdot tunneling between valley eigenstates in a double quantum dot is enabled by a small difference in the phase of the valley-orbit coupling between the two dots, and it in turn allows controllable rotations of two-dot valley eigenstates at a level anticrossing. We present a comprehensive analytical discussion of this process, with estimates for realistic structures.
We present a proposal for a fully electrically controllable quantum dot based spin current injector. The device consists of a quantum dot that is strongly coupled to a ferromagnetic electrode on one side and weakly coupled to a nonmagnetic electrode on the other side. The presence of ferromagnetic electrode results in an exchange field that splits the dot level. We show that this exchange-induced splitting can lead to almost full spin polarization of the current flowing through the device. Moreover, we also demonstrate that the sign of the polarization can be changed by the gate or the bias vo…
Three-dimensional anisotropy of the Lande g-factor and its electrical modulation are studied for single uncapped InAs self-assembled quantum dots (QDs). The g-factor is evaluated from measurement of inelastic cotunneling via Zeeman substates in the QD for various magnetic field directions. We find that the value and anisotropy of the g-factor depends on the type of orbital state which arises from the three-dimensional confinement anisotropy of the QD potential. Furthermore, the g-factor and its anisotropy are electrically tuned by a side-gate which modulates the confining potential.
We propose a new mechanism for polarizing nuclear spins in quantum dots, based on periodic modulation of the hyperfine coupling by electric driving at the electron spin resonance frequency. Dynamical nuclear polarization results from resonant excitation rather than hyperfine relaxation mediated by a thermal bath, and thus is not subject to Overhauser-like detailed balance constraints. This allows polarization in the direction opposite to that expected from the Overhauser effect. Competition of the electrically-driven and bath assisted mechanisms can give rise to spatial modulation and sign rev…
Charge-based quantum computation can be attained through reliable control of single electrons in lead-less quantum systems. Single-charge transitions in electrically-isolated double quantum dots (DQD) realised in phosphorus-doped silicon can be detected via capacitively coupled single-electron tunnelling devices. By means of time-resolved measurements of the detector's conductance, we investigate the dots' occupancy statistics in temperature. We observe a significant reduction of the effective electron temperature in the DQD as compared to the temperature in the detector's leads. This sets pro…
Using the Keldysh Green function technique, we calculate the finite-frequency correlator between the electrical current and the heat current flowing through a quantum dot connected to reservoirs. At equilibrium, we find that this quantity, called mixed noise, is linked to the thermoelectric ac-conductance by the fluctuation-dissipation theorem. Out-of-equilibrium, we discuss its spectrum and find evidence of the close relationship between the mixed noise and the thermopower. We study the spectral coherence and identify the conditions to have a strong correlation between the electrical and heat…
Exchange-coupled singlet-triplet spin qubits in two gate-defined double quantum dots are considered theoretically. Using charge density operators to describe the double-dot orbital states, we calculate the Coulomb couplings between the qubits, and identify optimal bias points for single- and two-qubit operations, as well as convenient idle positions. The same intuitive formulation is used to derive dephasing rates of these qubits due to the fluctuating charge environment, thereby providing the main considerations for a quantum computation architecture that is within current experimental capabi…
Spin relaxation from a triplet excited state to a singlet ground state in a semiconductor quantum dot is studied by employing an electrical pump-and-probe method. Spin relaxation occurs via cotunneling when the tunneling rate is relatively large, confirmed by a characteristic square dependence of the relaxation rate on the tunneling rate. When cotunneling is suppressed by reducing the tunneling rate, the intrinsic spin relaxation is dominated by spin-orbit interaction. We discuss a selection rule of the spin-orbit interaction based on the observed double-exponential decay of the triplet state.
Selective and large polarization of current injected into semiconductor (SC) is predicted in Ferromagnet (FM)/Quantum Dot (QD)/SC system by varying the gate voltage above the Kondo temperature. In addition, spin-dependent Kondo effect is also revealed below Kondo temperature. It is found that Kondo resonances for up spin state is suppressed with increasing of the polarization P of the FM lead. While the down one is enhanced. The Kondo peak for up spin is disappear at P=1.
We employ ultrafast pump-probe spectroscopy to directly monitor electron tunneling between discrete orbital states in a pair of spatially separated quantum dots. Immediately after excitation, several peaks are observed in the pump-probe spectrum due to Coulomb interactions between the photo-generated charge carriers. By tuning the relative energy of the orbital states in the two dots and monitoring the temporal evolution of the pump-probe spectra the electron and hole tunneling times are separately measured and resonant tunneling between the two dots is shown to be mediated both by elastic and…
The electrical and heat currents flowing through a quantum dot are calculated in the presence of a time-modulated gate voltage with the help of the out-of-equilibrium Green function technique. From the first harmonics of the currents, we extract the electrical and thermoelectrical trans-admittances and ac-conductances. Next, by a careful comparison of the ac-conductances with the finite-frequency electrical and mixed electrical-heat noises, we establish the fluctuation-dissipation relations linking these quantities, which are thus generalized out-of-equilibrium for a quantum system. It is show…
We present a new way of continuously reading-out the state of a single electronic spin. Our detection scheme is based on an exchange interaction between the electronic spin and a nearby read-out quantum dot. The coupling between the two systems results in a spin-dependent conductance through the read-out dot and establishes an all electrical and non-destructive single spin detection. With conductance variations up to 4% and read-out fidelities greater than 99.5%, this method represents an alternative to systems where spin to charge conversion cannot be implemented. Using a semi-classical appro…
We study the spectral properties of electron quantum dots (QDs) confined in 2D parabolic harmonic oscillator influenced by external uniform electrical and magnetic fields together with an Aharonov-Bohm (AB) flux field. We use the Nikiforov-Uvarov method in our calculations. Exact solutions for the energy levels and normalized wave functions are obtained for this exactly soluble quantum system. Based on the computed one-particle energetic spectrum and wave functions, the interband optical absorption GaAs spherical shape parabolic QDs is studied theoretically and the total optical absorption coe…
A novel method is proposed to measure the Purcell effect by observing the current through a semiconductor quantum dot embedded inside a microcavity. The stationary current is shown to be altered if one varies the cavity length. For the double-dot system, the stationary current is found to show the interference feature (superradiance) as the inter-dot distance is varied. The amplitude of oscillation can be increased by incorporating the system into a microcavity. Furthermore, the current is suppressed if the dot distance is small compared to the wavelength of the emitted photon. This photon tra…
We demonstrate fast universal electrical spin manipulation with inhomogeneous magnetic fields. With fast Rabi frequency up to 127 MHz, we leave the conventional regime of strong nuclear-spin influence and observe a spin-flip fidelity > 96%, a distinct chevron Rabi pattern in the spectral-time domain, and spin resonance linewidth limited by the Rabi frequency, not by the dephasing rate. In addition, we establish fast z-rotations up to 54 MHz by directly controlling the spin phase. Our findings will significantly facilitate tomography and error correction with electron spins in quantum dots.
We demonstrate electrical control of the spin relaxation time T_1 between Zeeman split spin states of a single electron in a lateral quantum dot. We find that relaxation is mediated by the spin-orbit interaction, and by manipulating the orbital states of the dot using gate voltages we vary the relaxation rate W= (T_1)^-1 by over an order of magnitude. The dependence of W on orbital confinement agrees with theoretical predictions and from these data we extract the spin-orbit length. We also measure the dependence of W on magnetic field and demonstrate that spin-orbit mediated coupling to phonon…
Controlling spin current and magnetic exchange coupling by applying an electric field and achieving high spin injection efficiency at the same time in a nanostructure coupled to ferromagnetic electrodes have been the outstanding challenges in nanoscale spintronics. A relentless quest is going on to find new low dimensional materials with tunable spin dependent properties to address these challenges. Herein, we predict, from first principles, the transverse electric field induced switching in the sign of exchange coupling and tunnel magnetoresistance in a boron nitride nanotube quantum dot atta…
We investigate the effects of the orientation of the magnetic field and the orientation of a quantum dot, with respect to crystallographic coordinates, on the quality of an electrically controlled qubit realized in a gated semiconductor quantum dot. We find that, due to the anisotropy of the spin-orbit interactions, varying the two orientations it is possible to tune the qubit in the sense of optimizing the ratio of its couplings to phonons and to a control electric field. We find conditions under which such optimal setup can be reached by solely reorienting the magnetic field, and when a spec…
We report electrical measurements of a single arsenic dopant atom in the tunnel-barrier of a silicon SET. As well as performing electrical characterization of the individual dopant, we study series electrical transport through the dopant and SET. We measure the triple points of this hybrid double dot, using simulations to support our results, and show that we can tune the electrostatic coupling between the two sub-systems.
We report on single InGaAs quantum dots embedded in a lateral electric field device. By applying a voltage we tune the neutral exciton transition into resonance with the biexciton using the quantum confined Stark effect. The results are compared to theoretical calculations of the relative energies of exciton and biexciton. Cascaded decay from the manifold of single exciton-biexciton states has been predicted to be a new concept to generate entangled photon pairs on demand without the need to suppress the fine structures splitting of the neutral exciton.
We study electrical and thermoelectrical properties for a double quantum dot system. We consider the cases of both single-level and multilevel quantum dots whatever the way they are coupled, either in a series or in a parallel arrangement. The calculations are performed by using the nonequilibrium Green function theory. In the case of a single-level double quantum dot, the problem is exactly solvable whereas for a multilevel double quantum dot, an analytical solution is obtained in the limit of energy-independent hopping integrals. { We present a detailed discussion about} the dependences of e…
We evaluate the Lande g factor of electrons in quantum dots (QDs) fabricated from GaAs quantum well (QW) structures of different well width. We first determine the Lande electron g factor of the QWs through resistive detection of electron spin resonance and compare it to the enhanced electron g factor determined from analysis of the magneto-transport. Next, we form laterally defined quantum dots using these quantum wells and extract the electron g factor from analysis of the cotunneling and Kondo effect within the quantum dots. We conclude that the Lande electron g factor of the quantum dot is…
Spin rotations induced by an AC electric field in a two-electron double quantum dot are studied by an exact numerical solution of the time dependent Schroedinger equation in the context of recent electric dipole spin resonance experiments based on the Pauli blockade. We demonstrate that the splitting of the main resonance line by the spin exchange coupling is accompanied by the appearance of fractional resonances and that both these effects are triggered by interdot tunnel coupling. We find that the AC driven system generates residual but distinct harmonics of the driving frequency which are a…
We explore the coherent transfer of electronic signatures from a strongly correlated, optically gated nanoscale quantum dot to a weakly interacting, electrically backgated microscale channel. In this unique side-coupled `T' geometry for transport, we predict a novel mechanism for detecting Rabi oscillations induced in the dot through quantum, rather than electrostatic means. This detection shows up as a field-tunable split in the Fano lineshape arising due to interference between the dipole coupled dot states and the channel continuum. The split is further modified by the Coulomb interactions …
Strong `spin'-orbit coupled one-dimensional hole gas is achievable in a Ge nanowire in the presence of a strong magnetic field. The strong magnetic field lifts the two-fold degeneracy in the hole subband dispersions, so that the effective low-energy subband dispersion exhibits strong `spin'-orbit coupling. Here, we study the electrical `spin' manipulation in a Ge nanowire quantum dot for both the lowest and second lowest hole subband dispersions. Using a finite square well to model the quantum dot confining potential, we calculate exactly the level splitting of the `spin'-orbit qubit and the R…
Single electron spins in semiconductor quantum dots (QDs) are a versatile platform for quantum information processing, however controlling decoherence remains a considerable challenge. Recently, hole spins have emerged as a promising alternative. Holes in III-V semiconductors have unique properties, such as strong spin-orbit interaction and weak coupling to nuclear spins, and therefore have potential for enhanced spin control and longer coherence times. Weaker hyperfine interaction has already been reported in self-assembled quantum dots using quantum optics techniques. However, challenging fa…
Qubits based on transistor-like Si MOS nanodevices are promising for quantum computing. In this work, we demonstrate a double quantum dot spin qubit that is all-electrically controlled without the need for any external components, like micromagnets, that could complicate integration. Universal control of the qubit is achieved through spin-orbit-like and exchange interactions. Using single shot readout, we show both DC- and AC-control techniques. The fabrication technology used is completely compatible with CMOS.
According to random-matrix theory, interference effects in the conductance of a ballistic chaotic quantum dot should vanish $\propto(τ_ϕ/τ_{D})^{p}$ when the dephasing time $τ_ϕ$ becomes small compared to the mean dwell time $τ_{D}$. Aleiner and Larkin have predicted that the power law crosses over to an exponential suppression $\propto\exp(-τ_{E}/τ_ϕ)$ when $τ_ϕ$ drops below the Ehrenfest time $τ_{E}$. We report the first observation of this crossover in a computer simulation of universal conductance fluctuations. Their theory also predicts an exponential suppression $\propto\exp(-τ_{E}/τ_{D}…
In this paper, we investigate the impact of gating potential and magnetic field on phonon induced spin relaxation rate and the speed of the electrically driven single-qubit operations inside the InSb nanowire spin qubit. We show that a strong $g$ factor and high magnetic field strength lead to the prevailing influence of electron-phonon scattering due to deformation potential, considered irrelevant for materials with a weak $g$ factor, like GaAs or Si/SiGe. In this regime, we find that spin relaxation between qubit states is significantly suppressed due to the confinement perpendicular to the …
Magnetic semiconductor quantum dots with a few carriers represent an interesting model system where ferromagnetic interactions can be tuned by voltage. By designing the geometry of a doped quantum dot, one can tailor the anisotropic quantum states of magnetic polarons. The strong anisotropy of magnetic polaron states in disk-like quantum dots with holes comes from the spin splitting in the valence band. The binding energy and spontaneous magnetization of quantum dots oscillate with the number of particles and reflect the shell structure. Due to the Coulomb interaction, the maximum binding ener…
We study the thermoelectrical transports for an interacting dot attached to two graphene electrodes. Graphene band structure shows a pseudogap density of states that affects strongly the transport properties. In this work, we focus on the Coulomb blockade regime and derive the expression for Onsager matrix O_{ij} that relates the electrical and heat currents with electrical and thermal biases in the linear response regime. Our findings show double peak structures for the electrical and thermal conductances versus the dot level in accordance with the Coulom blockade phenomenon. Remarkably, howe…
Tailoring spin coupling to electric fields is central to spintronics and spin-based quantum information processing. We present an optimal micromagnet design that produces appropriate stray magnetic fields to mediate fast electrical spin manipulations in nanodevices. We quantify the practical requirements for spatial field inhomogeneity and tolerance for misalignment with spins, and propose a design scheme to improve the spin-rotation frequency (to exceed 50MHz in GaAs nanostructures). We then validate our design by experiments in separate devices. Our results will open a route to rapidly contr…
We calculate that the electron states of strained self-assembled Ge/Si quantum dots provide a convenient two-state system for electrical control. An electronic state localized at the apex of the quantum dot is nearly degenerate with a state localized at the base of the quantum dot. Small electric fields shift the electronic ground state from apex-localized to base-localized, which permits sensitive tuning of the electronic, optical and magnetic properties of the dot. As one example, we describe how spin-spin coupling between two Ge/Si dots can be controlled very sensitively by shifting the ind…
We study the energy spectra of bound states in quantum dots (QDs) formed by an electrostatic potential in two-dimensional topological insulator (TI) and their transformation with changes in QD depth and radius. It is found that, unlike a trivial insulator, the energy difference between the levels of the ground state and first excited state can decrease with decreasing the radius and increasing the depth of the QD so that these levels intersect under some critical conditions. The crossing of the levels results in unusual features of optical properties caused by intracenter electron transitions.…
We image the micro-electroluminescence (EL) spectra of self-assembled InAs quantum dots (QDs) embedded in the intrinsic region of a GaAs p-i-n diode and demonstrate optical detection of resonant carrier injection into a single QD. Resonant tunneling of electrons and holes into the QDs at bias voltages below the flat-band condition leads to sharp EL lines characteristic of individual QDs, accompanied by a spatial fragmentation of the surface EL emission into small and discrete light- emitting areas, each with its own spectral fingerprint and Stark shift. We explain this behavior in terms of Cou…
The ability to manipulate electron spins with voltage-dependent electric fields is key to the operation of quantum spintronics devices, such as spin-based semiconductor qubits. A natural approach to electrical spin control exploits the spin-orbit coupling (SOC) inherently present in all materials. So far, this approach could not be applied to electrons in silicon, due to their extremely weak SOC. Here we report an experimental realization of electrically driven electron-spin resonance in a silicon-on-insulator (SOI) nanowire quantum dot device. The underlying driving mechanism results from an …
A double quantum dot is formed in a graphene nanoribbon device using three top gates. These gates independently change the number of electrons on each dot and tune the inter-dot coupling. Transport through excited states is observed in the weakly coupled double dot regime. We extract from the measurements all relevant capacitances of the double dot system, as well as the quantized level spacing.
We investigate near-field energy transfer between chemically synthesized quantum dots (QDs) and two-dimensional semiconductors. We fabricate devices in which electrostatically gated semiconducting monolayer molybdenum disulfide (MoS2) is placed atop a homogenous self-assembled layer of core-shell CdSSe QDs. We demonstrate efficient non-radiative Förster resonant energy transfer (FRET) from QDs into MoS2 and prove that modest gate-induced variation in the excitonic absorption of MoS2 lead to large (~500%) changes in the FRET rate. This, in turn, allows for up to ~75% electrical modulation of QD…
An ambipolar $n$-$p$ double quantum dot defined by potential variation along a semiconducting carbon-nanotube is considered. We focus on the (1e,1h) charge configuration with a single excess electron in the conduction band state confined in the $n$-type dot and a single missing electron in the valence band state of the $p$-dot for which lifting of the Pauli blockade of the current was observed in the electric-dipole spin resonance [E. A. Laird et al. Nat. Nanotech. 8 , 565 (2013)]. The dynamics of the system driven by periodic electric field is studied with the Floquet theory and the time-depe…
We describe dynamics of spin and valley transitions driven by alternating electric fields in quantum dots defined electrostatically within semiconducting carbon nanotubes (CNT). We use the tight-binding approach to describe the states localized within a quantum dot taking into account the circumferential spin-orbit interaction due to the s-p hybridization and external fields. The basis of eigenstates localized in the quantum dot is used in the solution of the time-dependent Schroedinger equation for description of spin flips and inter-valley transitions that are driven by periodic perturbation…
We examine electronic transport in a spin-blockaded double quantum dot. We show that by tuning the strength of the spin-orbit interaction the current flowing through the double dot exhibits a dip at zero magnetic field or a peak at a magnetic field for which the two-electron energy levels anticross. This behaviour is due to the dependence of the singlet-triplet mixing on the field and spin-orbit amplitude. We derive approximate expressions for the current as a function of the amplitudes of the states involved in the transport. We also consider an alternative model that takes into account a fin…
Single holes confined in semiconductor quantum dots are a promising platform for spin qubit technology, due to the electrical tunability of the $g$-factor of holes. However, the underlying mechanisms that enable electric spin control remain unclear due to the complexity of hole spin states. Here, we study the underlying hole spin physics of the first hole in a silicon planar MOS quantum dot. We show that non-uniform electrode-induced strain produces nanometre-scale variations in the HH-LH splitting. Importantly, we find that this \RR{non-uniform strain causes} the HH-LH splitting to vary by up…
Nanofabricated quantum bits permit large-scale integration but usually suffer from short coherence times due to interactions with their solid-state environment. The outstanding challenge is to engineer the environment so that it minimally affects the qubit, but still allows qubit control and scalability. Here we demonstrate a long-lived single-electron spin qubit in a Si/SiGe quantum dot with all-electrical two-axis control. The spin is driven by resonant microwave electric fields in a transverse magnetic field gradient from a local micromagnet, and the spin state is read out in single-shot mo…
We theoretically study thermal transport in an electronic interferometer comprising a parallel circuit of two quantum dots, each of which has a tunable single electronic state which are connected to two leads at different temperature. As a result of quantum interference, the heat current through one of the dots is in the opposite direction to the temperature gradient. An excess heat current flows through the other dot. Although locally, heat flows from cold to hot, globally the second law of thermodynamics is not violated because the entropy production associated with heat transfer through the …
We present Coulomb blockade measurements in a graphene double dot system. The coupling of the dots to the leads and between the dots can be tuned by graphene in-plane gates. The coupling is a non-monotonic function of the gate voltage. Using a purely capacitive model, we extract all relevant energy scales of the double dot system.
We report a large g-factor tunability of a single hole spin in an InGaAs quantum dot via an electric field. The magnetic field lies in the in-plane direction x, the direction required for a coherent hole spin. The electrical field lies along the growth direction z and is changed over a large range, 100 kV/cm. Both electron and hole g-factors are determined by high resolution laser spectroscopy with resonance fluorescence detection. This, along with the low electrical-noise environment, gives very high quality experimental results. The hole g-factor g_xh depends linearly on the electric field F…
We demonstrate a hole double quantum dot in an undoped GaAs/AlGaAs heterostructure. The interdot coupling can be tuned over a wide range, from formation of a large single dot to two well-isolated quantum dots. Using charge sensing, we show the ability to completely empty the dot of holes and control the charge occupation in the few-hole regime. The device should allow for control of individual hole spins in single and double quantum dots in GaAs.
We present a modulated microwave approach for quantum computing with qubits comprising three spins in a triple quantum dot. This approach includes single- and two-qubit gates that are protected against low-frequency electrical noise, due to an operating point with a narrowband response to high frequency electric fields. Furthermore, existing double quantum dot advances, including robust preparation and measurement via spin-to-charge conversion, are immediately applicable to the new qubit. Finally, the electric dipole terms implicit in the high frequency coupling enable strong coupling with sup…
Emerging theoretical concepts for quantum technologies have driven a continuous search for structures where a quantum state, such as spin, can be manipulated efficiently. Central to many concepts is the ability to control a system by electric and magnetic fields, relying on strong spin-orbit interaction and a large g-factor. Here, we present a new mechanism for spin and orbital manipulation using small electric and magnetic fields. By hybridizing specific quantum dot states at two points inside InAs nanowires, nearly perfect quantum rings form. Large and highly anisotropic effective g-factors …
We report the computer-automated tuning of gate-defined semiconductor double quantum dots in GaAs heterostructures. We benchmark the algorithm by creating three double quantum dots inside a linear array of four quantum dots. The algorithm sets the correct gate voltages for all the gates to tune the double quantum dots into the single-electron regime. The algorithm only requires (1) prior knowledge of the gate design and (2) the pinch-off value of the single gate $T$ that is shared by all the quantum dots. This work significantly alleviates the user effort required to tune multiple quantum dot …
We study theoretically the single-electron triangular zigzag graphene quantum dot in uniform in-plane electric fields. The far-infrared absorption spectra of the dot are calculated by the tight-binding method. The energy spectra and the distribution of wave functions are also presented to analyse the far-infrared spectra. The orthogonal zero-energy eigenstates are arranged along to the direction of the external field. The remarkable result is that all intraband transitions and some interband transitions are forbidden when the absorbed light is polarized along the direction of the electric fiel…
Absorption of energy quanta generated by quantum point contact results in the inelastic current through the double quantum dot placed nearby. In contrast to a single quantum dot, the inelastic current through the double quantum dot is sensitive to the energy dependence of the quantum point contact transmission, which can explain the experimentally observed features. We calculate the inelastic current as a function of microscopic parameters of the circuit.
We study theoretically the interaction between the charge dynamics of a few-electron double quantum dot and a capacitively-coupled AFM cantilever, a setup realized in several recent experiments. We demonstrate that the dot-induced frequency shift and damping of the cantilever can be used as a sensitive probe of coherent inter-dot tunnelling, and that these effects can be used to quantitatively extract both the magnitude of the coherent interdot tunneling and (in some cases) the value of the double-dot T_1 time. We also show how the adiabatic modulation of the double-dot eigenstates by the cant…
We observed lifting of Coulomb blockade in GaAs vertical double quantum dot with low potential barriers, induced by cotunneling mechanisms at dilution fridge temperature of 10 mK. Several distinct features were observed, compared to single dot case, and appropriate explanation for them was given
We propose an all-electrical experimental setup to detect and manipulate the amplitude of odd-frequency pairing in a double quantum dot. Odd-frequency pair amplitude is induced from the breakdown of orbital symmetry when Cooper pairs are injected in the double dot with electrons in different dots. When the dot levels are aligned with the Fermi energy, i.e., on resonance, nonlocal Andreev processes are directly connected to the presence of odd-frequency pairing. Therefore, their amplitude can be manipulated by tuning the level positions. Detection of nonlocal Andreev processes by conductance me…
The electrical control of single spin qubits based on semiconductor quantum dots is of great interest for scalable quantum computing since electric fields provide an alternative mechanism for qubit control compared with magnetic fields and can also be easier to produce. Here we outline the mechanism for a drastic enhancement in the electrically-driven spin rotation frequency for silicon quantum dot qubits in the presence of a step at a hetero-interface. The enhancement is due to the strong coupling between the ground and excited states which occurs when the electron wave-function overcomes the…
We investigate sequential tunneling transport through a semiconductor double quantum dot structure by combining a simple microscopic quantum confinement model with a Mott-Hubbard type correlation model. We calculate nonperturbatively the evolution of the Coulomb blockade oscillations as a function of the interdot barrier conductance, obtaining good qualitative agreement with the experimental data over the whole tunneling regime from the weak-coupling individual dot to the strong-coupling coherent double-dot molecular system.
We investigate the energy levels of charge carriers confined in a magnetic quantum dot in graphene with an inhomogeneous gap through an electrical potential. We solve the eigenvalue equation for two regions. We explicitly determine the eigenspinors for both valleys $ K $, $ K' $ and use the boundary condition at the quantum dot interface to obtain the energy levels. We show that the energy levels exhibit symmetric and asymmetric behavior under appropriate conditions of the physical parameters. It has been found that changing the energy levels by introducing an energy gap outside the quantum do…
We studied experimentally the dynamics of the exchange interaction between two antiparallel electron spins in a so-called metastable double quantum dot where coupling to the electron reservoirs can be ignored. We demonstrate that the level of control of such a double dot is higher than in conventional double dots. In particular, it allows to couple coherently two electron spins in an efficient manner following a scheme initially proposed by Loss and DiVincenzo. The present study demonstrates that metastable quantum dots are a possible route to increase the number of coherently coupled quantum …
