We prove that the existence of log minimal models in dimension $d$ essentially implies the LMMP with scaling in dimension $d$. As a consequence we prove that a weak nonvanishing conjecture in dimension $d$ implies the minimal model conjecture in dimension $d$.
We study relations between two log minimal models of a fixed lc pair. For any two log minimal models of an lc pair constructed with log MMP, we prove that there are small birational models of the log minimal models which can be connected by a sequence of flops, and the two log minimal models share some properties. We also give examples of two log minimal models of an lc pair which have different properties.
We discuss the log minimal model theory for log surfaces. We show that the log minimal model program, the finite generation of log canonical rings, and the log abundance theorem for log surfaces hold true under assumptions weaker than the usual framework of the log minimal model theory.
In this paper, we prove that the log minimal model program in dimension $d-1$ implies the existence of log minimal models for effective lc pairs (eg of nonnegative Kodaira dimension) in dimension $d$. In fact, we prove that the same conclusion follows from a weaker assumption, namely, the log minimal model program with scaling in dimension $d-1$. This enables us to prove that effective lc pairs in dimension five have log minimal models. We also give new proofs of the existence of log minimal models for effective lc pairs in dimension four and the Shokurov reduction theorem. Other applications …
We prove a stronger version of a termination theorem appeared in the paper "On existence of log minimal models II". We essentially just get rid of the redundant assumptions so the proof is almost the same as in there. However, we give a detailed proof here for future reference.
We discuss the ideal-adic semi-continuity problem for minimal log discrepancies by Mustata. We study the purely log terminal case, and prove the semi-continuity of minimal log discrepancies when a Kawamata log terminal triple deforms in the ideal-adic topology.
We compare the minimal model of a log canonical pair with the minimal model of its reduced boundary. These results are then used to study the existence of the minimal model of a semi-log-canonical pair using its normalization.
We show the existence of prime divisors computing minimal log discrepancies in positive characteristic except for a special case. Moreover we prove the lower semicontinuity of minimal log discrepancies for smooth varieties in positive characteristic.
In this article, we use the cone of nef curves to study minimal log discrepancies. The first result is an improvement of the nef cone theorem in the case of log Calabi-Yau dlt pairs. Then, we prove that the ascending chain condition for $n$-dimensional minimal log discrepancies of regularity one holds around zero. Furthermore, we show that there exists an upper bound for the minimal log discrepancy of any $n$-dimensional klt singularity of regularity one.
Following Shokurov's ideas, we give a short proof of the following klt version of his result: termination of terminal log flips in dimension d implies that any klt pair of dimension d has a log minimal model or a Mori fibre space. Thus, in particular, any klt pair of dimension 4 has a log minimal model or a Mori fibre space.
An explanation to the boundness of minimal log discrepancies conjectured by V.V. Shokurov would be that the minimal log discrepancies of a variety in its closed points define a lower semi-continuous function. We check this lower semi-continuity behaviour for varieties of dimension at most 3 and for toric varieties of arbitrary dimension.
This paper formulates the Nash problem for a pair consisting of a toric variety and an invariant ideal and gives an affirmative answer to the problem. We also prove that the minimal log-discrepacy is computed by a divisor corresponding to a Nash component, if the minimal log-discrepancy is finite. On the other hand there exists a Nash component such that the corresponding divisor has negative log-discrepancy, if the minimal log-discrepancy is $-/infty$.
We study a divisor computing the minimal log discrepancy on a smooth surface. Such a divisor is obtained by a weighted blow-up. There exists an example of a pair such that any divisor computing the minimal log discrepancy computes no log canonical thresholds.
On smooth threefolds, the ACC for minimal log discrepancies is equivalent to the boundedness of the log discrepancy of some divisor which computes the minimal log discrepancy. We reduce it to the case when the boundary is the product of a canonical part and the maximal ideal to some power. We prove the reduced assertion when the log canonical threshold of the maximal ideal is either at most one-half or at least one.
We describe the foundation of the log minimal model program for log canonical pairs according to Ambro's idea. We generalize Kollár's vanishing and torsion-free theorems for embedded simple normal crossing pairs. Then we prove the cone and contraction theorems for quasi-log varieties, especially, for log canonical pairs.
We study relations between the property of being log abundant for lc pairs and the termination of log MMP with scaling. We prove that any log MMP with scaling of an ample divisor starting with a projective dlt pair contains only finitely many log abundant dlt pairs. We also discuss log MMP for slc pairs.
We prove that the non-vanishing conjecture and the log minimal model conjecture for projective log canonical pairs can be reduced to the non-vanishing conjecture for smooth projective varieties such that the boundary divisor is zero.
We introduce the notion of generalized MR log canonical surfaces and establish the minimal model theory for generalized MR log canonical surfaces in full generality.
In this paper, we show that Shokurov's conjectures on the ACC for $a$-lc thresholds and the ACC for minimal log discrepancies are equivalent in the interval $[0,1)$. That is, the conjecture on ACC for $a$-lc thresholds holds for every $0\leq a<1$ if and only if the set of minimal log discrepancies for pairs with DCC coefficients do not have an accumulation point from below which belongs to $[0,1)$.
We formulate a comparison of minimal log discrepancies of a variety and its ambient space with appropriate boundaries in terms of motivic integration. It was obtained also by Ein and Mustaţǎ independently.
We introduce an approach of Riemann--Roch theorem to the boundedness problem of minimal log discrepancies in fixed dimension. After reducing it to the case of a Gorenstein terminal singularity, firstly we prove that its minimal log discrepancy is bounded if either multiplicity or embedding dimension is bounded. Secondly we recover the characterisation of a Gorenstein terminal three-fold singularity by Reid, and the precise boundary of its minimal log discrepancy by Markushevich, without explicit classification. Finally we provide the precise boundary for a special four-fold singularity, whose …
The first aim of this note is to give a concise, but complete and self-contained, presentation of the fundamental theorems of Mori theory - the nonvanishing, base point free, rationality and cone theorems - using modern methods of multiplier ideals, Nadel vanishing, and the subadjunction theorem of Kawamata. The second aim is to write up a complete, detailed proof of existence of flips in dimension n assuming the minimal model program with scaling in dimension n-1.
This paper shows that Mustata-Nakamura's conjecture holds for pairs consisting of a smooth surface and a multiideal with a real exponent over the base field of positive characteristic. As corollaries, we obtain the ascending chain condition of the minimal log discrepancies and of the log canonical thresholds for those pairs. We also obtain finiteness of the set of the minimal log discrepancies of those pairs for a fixed real exponent.
We prove that every log crepant birational morphism between log terminal surfaces is decomposed into log-flopping type divisorial contraction morphisms and log blow-downs. Repeating these two kinds of contractions we reach a minimal log minimal surface from any log minimal surface.
We first introduce a weak type of Zariski decomposition in higher dimensions: an $\R$-Cartier divisor has a weak Zariski decomposition if birationally and in a numerical sense it can be written as the sum of a nef and an effective $\R$-Cartier divisor. We then prove that there is a very basic relation between Zariski decompositions and log minimal models which has long been expected: we prove that assuming the log minimal model program in dimension $d-1$, a lc pair $(X/Z,B)$ of dimension $d$ has a log minimal model if and only if $K_X+B$ has a weak Zariski decomposition$/Z$.
Given a three-dimensional projective log canonical pair over a perfect field of characteristic larger than five, there exists a minimal model program that terminates after finitely many steps.
In a previous work, we described the Minimal Model Program in the family of $\Qbb$-Gorenstein projective horospherical varieties, by studying certain continuous changes of moment polytopes of polarized horospherical varieties. Here, we summarize the results of the previous work and we explain how to generalize them in order to describe the Log Minimal Model Program for pairs $(X,\D)$ when $X$ is a projective horospherical variety.
Under the assumption of the minimal model theory for projective klt pairs of dimension $n$, we establish the minimal model theory for lc pairs $(X/Z,Δ)$ such that the log canonical divisor is relatively log abundant and its restriction to any lc center has relative numerical dimension at most $n$. We also give another detailed proof of results by the second author, and study termination of log MMP with scaling.
We investigate the stratified hyperbolicity properties of Birkar's moduli stack of log canonical (lc) stable minimal models. The main technical result is a construction of Viehweg-Zuo's system of Higgs sheaves associated with an admissible family of lc stable minimal models, using the theory of degenerations of Hodge structure and non-abelian Hodge theory.
We continue our study of the relation between log minimal models and various types of Zariski decompositions. Let $(X,B)$ be a projective log canonical pair. We will show that $(X,B)$ has a log minimal model if either $K_X+B$ birationally has a Nakayama-Zariski decomposition with nef positive part, or that $K_X+B$ is big and birationally it has a Fujita or CKM Zariski decomposition. Along the way we introduce polarized pairs $(X,B+P)$ where $(X,B)$ is a usual projective pair and $P$ is nef, and study the birational geometry of such pairs.
Let $(X\ni x,B)$ be an lc surface germ. If $X\ni x$ is klt, we show that there exists a divisor computing the minimal log discrepancy of $(X\ni x,B)$ that is a Kollár component of $X\ni x$. If $B\not=0$ or $X\ni x$ is not Du Val, we show that any divisor computing the minimal log discrepancy of $(X\ni x,B)$ is a potential lc place of $X\ni x$.
In this article we prove a local implication of boundedness of Fano varieties. More precisely, we prove that $d$-dimensional $a$-log canonical singularities, with standard coefficients, which admit an $ε$-plt blow-up have minimal log discrepancies belonging to a finite set which only depends on $d,a$ and $ε$. This result gives a natural geometric stratification of the possible mld's in a fixed dimension by finite sets. As an application, we prove the ascending chain condition for minimal log discrepancies of exceptional singularities. We also introduce an invariant for klt singularities relate…
We study relative log canonical pairs with relatively trivial log canonical divisors. We fix such a pair $(X,Δ)/Z$ and establish the minimal model theory for the pair $(X,Δ)$ assuming the minimal model theory for all Kawamata log terminal pairs whose dimension is not greater than ${\rm dim}\,Z$. We also show the finite generation of log canonical rings for log canonical pairs of dimension five which are not of log general type.
We prove the normality of minimal log canonical centers on threefold pairs which residue fields are perfect of residue characteristics $p\neq 2,3 $ and $5$. We also show that the union of all log canonical centers on threefold pairs with standard coefficients are seminormal provided that the residue characteristic is large enough. We provide an example of a non-seminormal log canonical center on a threefold in characteristic $3$, and give sufficient conditions to construct similar examples.
We discuss the minimal model program for b-log varieties, which is a pair of a variety and a b-divisor, as a natural generalization of the minimal model program for ordinary log varieties. We show that the main theorems of the log MMP work in the setting of the b-log MMP. If we assume that the log MMP terminates, then so does the b- log MMP. Furthermore, the b-log MMP includes both the log MMP and the equivariant MMP as special cases. There are various interesting b-log varieties arising from different objects, including the Brauer pairs, or "non-commutative algebraic varieties which are finit…
In this paper we study singularities in arbitrary characteristic. We propose Finite Determination Conjecture for Mather-Jacobian minimal log discrepancies in terms of jet schemes of a singularity. The conjecture is equivalent to the boundedness of the number of the blow-ups to obtain a prime divisor which computes the Mather-Jacobian minimal log discrepancy. We also show that this conjecture yields some basic properties of singularities; e.g. openness of Mather-Jacobian (log) canonical singularities, stability of these singularities under small deformations and lower semi-continuity of Mather-…
