We give examples of stable rank 2 vector bundles on principally polarized abelian threefolds, and study their deformations. The starting point is the Serre construction, which gives a source of examples, and which we rephrase in terms of Barth--Hulek like monads. Using the monad description, we compute the dimension of the space of first order infinitesimal deformations of these bundles. Moreover, we obtain a birational description of a 13-dimensional component of the moduli space for stable vector bundles.
In this paper we give the classification of rank 3 vector bundles without "inner" cohomology on a quadric hypersurface \Q_n (n>3) by studying the associated monads.
In this paper we establish the existence of monads on Cartesian products of projective spaces. We construct vector bundles associated to monads on $\mathbb{P}^{a_1}\times\mathbb{P}^{a_1}\times\mathbb{P}^{a_2}\times\mathbb{P}^{a_2}\times\cdots\times\mathbb{P}^{a_n}\times\mathbb{P}^{a_n}$. Once the monad on $X$ exists the next natural question is if the cohomology vector bundle associated to these monads are simple or not. We study these vector bundles associated to monads on $X$ and prove their stability and simplicity.
We study instanton bundles $E$ on $\mathbb{P}^1\times \mathbb{P}^1 \times \mathbb{P}^1$. We construct two different monads which are the analog of the monads for instanton bundles on $\mathbb P^3$ and on the flag threefold $F(0,1,2)$. We characterize the Gieseker semistable cases and we prove the existence of $μ$-stable instanton bundles generically trivial on the lines for any possible $c_2(E)$. We also study the locus of jumping lines.
We improve Ottaviani's splitting criterion for vector bundles on a quadric hypersurface and obtain the equivalent of the result by Rao, Mohan Kumar and Peterson. Then we give the classification of rank 2 bundles without "inner" cohomology on Q_n (n>3). It surprisingly exactly agrees with the classification by Ancona, Peternell and Wisniewski of rank 2 Fano bundles.
We propose a three-step program for the classification of stable rank 2 bundles on the projective space $\mathbb{P}^3$ inspired by an article by Hartshorne and Rao. While this classification program has been successfully completed for stable rank 2 bundles with even determinant and $c_2\le5$, much less is known for bundles with odd determinant. After revising the known facts about these objects, we list all possible spectra and minimal monads for stable rank 2 bundles with odd determinant and $c_2\le8$. We provide a full classification of all bundles with positive minimal monads, provide a neg…
We introduce the notion of an instanton bundle on a Fano threefold of index 2. For such bundles we give an analogue of a monadic description and discuss the curve of jumping lines. The cases of threefolds of degree 5 and 4 are considered in a greater detail.
In this paper, we prove the Bogomolov-Gieseker type inequality conjecture for threefolds with nef tangent bundles. As a corollary, there exist Bridgeland stability conditions on these threefolds.
We investigate the globally generated vector bundles on complete intersection Calabi-Yau threefolds with the first Chern class at most 2. We classify all the globally generated vector bundles of an arbitrary rank on quintic in $\mathbb{P}^4$ and investigate the globally generated vector bundles of rank 2 on complete intersection Calabi-Yau threefolds of codimension 2.
We study noncompact Calabi-Yau threefolds, their moduli spaces of vector bundles and deformation theory. We present Calabi-Yau threefolds that have infinitely many distinct deformations, constructing them explicitily, and describe the effect that such deformations produce on moduli spaces of vector bundles.
The aim of this paper is to classify indecomposable rank 2 arithmetically Cohen-Macaulay (ACM) bundles on compete intersection Calabi-Yau (CICY) threefolds and prove the existence of some of them. New geometric properties of the curves corresponding to rank 2 ACM bundles (by Serre correspondence) are obtained. These follow from minimal free resolutions of curves in suitably chosen fourfolds (containing Calabi-Yau threefolds as hypersurfaces). Also the existence of an indecomposable vector bundle of higher rank on a CICY threefold of type (2,4) is proved.
We prove that a nef line bundle $\mathcal L$ with $c_1(\mathcal L)^2 \ne 0$ on a Calabi-Yau threefold $X$ with Picard number $2$ and with $c_3(X) \ne 0$ is semiample, that is, some multiple of $\mathcal L$ is generated by global sections.
We give the lower bound on Seshadri constants for the case of very ample line bundles on threefolds. We consider the situation when the Seshadri constant is strictly less than 2 and give a version of Bauer's theorem \cite[Theorem 2.1]{B1} for singular surfaces so we can prove the same result for smooth threefolds.
We prove that any rank two arithmetically Cohen-Macaulay vector bundle on a general hypersurface of degree at least six in projective four space must be split.
We give a complete classification of globally generated vector bundles of rank 3 on a smooth quadric threefold with $c_1\leq 2$ and extend the result to arbitrary higher rank case. We also investigate the existence of globally generated indecomposable vector bundles, and give the sufficient and necessary conditions on numeric data of vector bundles for indecomposability.
In the paper ``Chirality change in string theory'', by Douglas and Zhou, the authors give a list of bundles on a quintic Calabi-Yau threefold. Here we prove the semistability of most of these bundles. This provides examples of string theory compactifications which have a different number of generations and can be connected.
We investigate the existence of globally generated vector bundles of rank 2 with $c_1\leq 3$ on a smooth quadric threefold and determine their Chern classes. As an automatic consequence, every rank 2 globally generated vector bundle on $Q$ with $c_1=3$ is an odd instanton up to twist.
We classify rank two vector bundles on a given del Pezzo threefold of degree four whose projectivizations are weak Fano into seven cases. We also give an example for each of these seven cases.
Using an explicit resolution of the diagonal for the variety V_5, we provide cohomological characterizations of the universal and quotient bundles. A splitting criterion for bundles over V_5 is also proved. The presentation of semistable aCM (i.e. with no intermediate cohomology) bundles is shown, together with a resolution-theoretic classification of low rank aCM bundles.
In this paper we derive a list of all the possible indecomposable normalized rank--two vector bundles without intermediate cohomology on the prime Fano threefolds and on the complete intersection Calabi Yau threefolds, say $V$, of Picard number $ρ=1$. For any such bundle $\E$, if it exists, we find the projective invariants of the curves $C \subset V$ which are the zero-locus of general global sections of $\E$. In turn, a curve $C \subset V$ with such invariants is a section of a bundle $\E$ from our lists. This way we reduce the problem for existence of such bundles on $V$ to the problem for …
We give a partial positive answer to a conjecture of Tyurin (\cite {Tyu}). Indeed we prove that on a general quintic hypersurface of $\Pj^4$ every arithmetically Cohen--Macaulay rank 2 vector bundle is infinitesimally rigid.
We show that fiberwise stable vector bundles are preserved by relative Fourier-Mukai transforms between elliptic threefolds with relative Picard number one. Using these bundles we define new invariants of elliptic fibrations, and we relate the invariants of a space with those of a relative moduli space of stable sheaves on it. As a byproduct, we calculate the intersection form of a certain new example of an elliptic Calabi-Yau threefold.
We study certain moduli spaces of stable vector bundles of rank two on cubic and quartic threefolds. In many cases under consideration, it turns out that the moduli space is complete and irreducible and a general member has vanishing intermediate cohomology. In one case, all except one component of the moduli space has such vector bundles.
Let X be a Fano threefold, and let S be a K3 surface in X . Any moduli space M of simple vector bundles on S carries a holomorphic symplectic structure. Following an idea of Tyurin, we show that in some cases, those vector bundles which come from X form a Lagrangian subvariety of M . We illustrate this with a number of concrete examples.
We classify globally generated vector bundles on $\mathbb{P}^1 \times \mathbb{P}^2$ with small first Chern class, i.e. $c_1= (a,b)$, $a+b \leq 3$. Our main method is to investigate the associated smooth curves to globally generated vector bundles via the Hartshorne-Serre construction.
We start the classification of smooth projective threefolds X whose anticanonical bundles -K_X are big and nef but not ample. In this paper we treat the case b_2(X) = 2 and the morphism associated with the base point free linear system |-mK_X|, m>>0, is divisorial.
In continuation of our paper in Math. Ann. 333 we classify smooth complex projective threefolds X with -K_X big and nef but not ample and Picard number 2, whose anticanonical map is small. We assume also that the Mori contraction of X and of its flop are not both birational.
We show that there exists a cubic threefold defined by an invertible polynomial that, when quotiented by the maximal diagonal symmetry group, has a derived category which does not have a full exceptional collection consisting of line bundles. This provides a counterexample to a conjecture of Lekili and Ueda.
We establish a formula for computing the unramified Brauer group of tame conic bundle threefolds in characteristic 2. The formula depends on the arrangement and residue double covers of the discriminant components, the latter being governed by Artin-Schreier theory (instead of Kummer theory in characteristic not 2). We use this to give new examples of threefold conic bundles defined over the integers that are not stably rational over the complex numbers.
We describe all of the smooth complete toric threefolds of Picard number 5 with no nontrivial nef line bundles, and show that no such examples exist with Picard number less than 5.
We generalise Fløystad's theorem on the existence of monads on the projective space to a larger set of projective varieties. We consider a variety $X$, a line bundle $L$ on $X$, and a base-point-free linear system of sections of $L$ giving a morphism to the projective space whose image is either arithmetically Cohen-Macaulay (ACM), or linearly normal and not contained in a quadric. We give necessary and sufficient conditions on integers $a$, $b$, and $c$ for a monad of type \[ 0\to(L^\vee)^a\to\mathcal{O}_{X}^{\,b}\to L^c\to0 \] to exist. We show that under certain conditions there exists a mo…
We deal with instanton bundles on the product ${\mathbb P}^1\times{\mathbb P}^2$ and the blow up of ${\mathbb P}^3$ along a line. We give an explicit construction leading to instanton bundles. Moreover, we also show that they correspond to smooth points of a unique irreducible component of their moduli space.
In this paper we show that on a general sextic hypersurface $X\subset \bf P^4$, a rank 2 vector bundle $E$ splits if and only if $h^1(E(n))=0$ for any $n \in \bf Z$. We get thus a characterization of complete intersection curves in $X$
Let X be a smooth cubic threefold, M the moduli space of stable rank 2 vector bundles on X with trivial determinant and c_2=2 (the smallest value for which this space is non-empty). Recent results of Druel, Iliev, Markushevich and Tikhomirov lead to a precise description of M and its Maruyama compactification M': the latter is isomorphic to the intermediate Jacobian of X blown-up along the Fano surface. In this survey paper we explain these results and discuss some applications.
We consider a particular class of holomorphic vector bundles relevant for supersymmetric string theory, called \emph{omalous}, over nonsingular projective varieties. We use monads to construct examples of such bundles over 3-fold hypersurfaces in $\mathbb{P}^{4}$, complete intersection Calabi-Yau manifolds in $\mathbb{P}^{k}$, blow-ups of $\mathbb{P}^{2}$ at $n$ distinct points, and products $\mathbb{P}^{m}\times\mathbb{P}^{n}$.
Let X be a smooth projective threefold, and let A be an ample line bundle such that $K_X+A$ is nef. We show that if $K_X$ or $-K_X$ is pseudoeffective, the adjoint bundle $K_X+A$ has global sections. We also give a very short proof of the Beltrametti-Sommese conjecture in dimension three, recently proven by Fukuma: if A is an ample line bundle such that $K_X+2A$ is nef, the adjoint bundle $K_X+2A$ has global sections.
Let X be a general complex Fano threefold of genus 8. We prove that the moduli space of rank two semistable sheaves on X with Chern numbers c_1=1, c_2=6 and c_3=0 is isomorphic to the Fano surface F(X) of conics on X. Inside F(X), the non-locally free sheaves are parameterized by a smooth curve of genus 26 isomorphic to the base of the family of lines on X.
We prove that minimal instanton bundles on a Fano threefold $X$ of Picard rank one and index two are semistable objects in the Kuznetsov component $\mathsf{Ku}(X)$, with respect to the stability conditions constructed by Bayer, Lahoz, Macrì and Stellari. When the degree of $X$ is at least $3$, we show torsion free generalizations of minimal instantons are also semistable objects. As a result, we describe the moduli space of semistable objects with same numerical classes as minimal instantons in $\mathsf{Ku}(X)$. We also investigate the stability of acyclic extensions of non-minimal instantons.
The Abel-Jacobi map of the family of elliptic quintics lying on a general cubic threefold is studied. It is proved that it factors through a moduli component of stable rank 2 vector bundles on the cubic threefold with Chern numbers c_1=0, c_2=2, whose general point represents a vector bundle obtained by Serre's construction from an elliptic quintic. The elliptic quintics mapped to a point of the moduli space vary in a 5-dimensional projective space inside the Hilbert scheme of curves, and the map from the moduli space to the intermediate Jacobian is étale. As auxiliary results, the irreducibil…
By the results of the author and Chiantini in Math.AG/0110102, on a general quintic threefold $X \subset {\mathbf P}^4$ the minimum integer $p$ for which there exists a positive dimensional family of irreducible rank $p$ vector bundles on $X$ without intermediate cohomology is at least three. In this paper we show that $p \leq 4$, by constructing series of positive dimensional families of rank 4 vector bundles on $X$ without intermediate cohomology. The general member of such family is an indecomposable bundle from the extension class $Ext^1(E,F)$, for a suitable choice of the rank 2 ACM bundl…
We consider an analogue of the notion of instanton bundle on the projective 3-space, consisting of a class of rank-2 vector bundles defined on smooth Fano threefolds X of Picard number one, having even or odd determinant according to the parity of K_X. We first construct a well-behaved irreducible component of their moduli spaces. Then, when the intermediate Jacobian of X is trivial, we look at the associated monads, hyperdeterminants and nets of quadrics. We also study one case where the intermediate Jacobian of X is non-trivial, namely when X is the intersection of two quadrics in P5, relati…
According to Mukai, any prime Fano threefold X of genus 7 is a linear section of the spinor tenfold in the projectivized half-spinor space of Spin(10). It is proven that the moduli space of stable rank-2 vector bundles with Chern classes c_1=1,c_2=5 on a generic X is isomorphic to the curve of genus 7 obtained by taking an orthogonal linear section of the spinor tenfold. This is an inverse of Mukai's result on the isomorphism of a non-abelian Brill--Noether locus on a curve of genus 7 to a Fano threefold of genus 7. An explicit geometric construction of both isomorphisms and a similar result f…
