A Novel GL double Layer cloaks are proposed. Moreover, we discovered a single negative refractive index metamaterial. We fill it inside the single cloaked concealment, the EM wave field excited inside the this material in the concealment propagates out to free space through the single layer cloak. 13 figures are included
In this paper, we propose a novel electromagnetic (EM) cloaking structure that consists of two annular layers between three spherical shells and model its performance numerically and theoretically by using a Global and Local EM field (GL) method. The two annular layers contain distinct cloaking materials: the outer layer provides invisibility; the inner layer is fully absorbing. The cloaking materials are weakly degenerative. The wavefield from an EM source located outside the cloak propagates as in free space outside the outer shell, never be disturbed by the cloak and does not penetrate into the inner absorbing layer and concealment.
The field of a source located inside inner layer or the cloaked concealment is completely absorbed by the inner layer and never reaches the outside of the middle shell, Moreover, the EM wavefield excited in concealment is not disrupted by the cloak. There exists no Maxwell EM wavefield can be excited in a single layer cloaked concealment which is filled by normal material. Moreover, we find a negative dielectric and positive susceptibility metamaterial to fill into the concealment, such that the interior EM wave propagates from the concealment to free space through the single layer cloak. Therefore, the double layer cloak is important and necessary for complete invisibility. Numerical simulations and theoretical analysis verifying these properties are performed using the GL EM modeling method that we described in this paper.
In this paper, we propose a novel GLWF double layer EM cloak in the broad frequency band. The GLWF double layer cloak consists of two sphere annular layers, two type cloak materials are proposed and installed in its each layer, respectively. The outer layer of the GL cloak has the invisible function in broad frequency band, while its inner layer has the fully absorption and rapid delay function. The GLWF double layer cloak overcomes the following difficulties of the single layer PS cloak. (1) There exists no EM wavefield can be excited inside the concealment of the PS cloak, the concealment of…
In this paper, we propose a new electromagnetic (EM) GL double layered cloak. The GL double layered cloak is consist of two sphere annular layers, $R_1 \le r \le R_2$ and $R_2 \le r \le R_3$. Two type cloak materials are proposed and installed in the each layer, respectively. The outer layer cloak of the GL double layered cloak has the invisible function, the inner layer cloak has fully absorption function. The GL double layered metamaterials are weak degenerative and weak dispersive. When the source is located outside of the GL double layered cloak, the excited EM wave field propagation outsi…
The GL electromagnetic (EM) modeling is used to simulate the 3D EM full wave field propagation through cloaks. The 3D GL simulation of the EM wave field excited by a point source outside of the cloaks has been done. The simulation of the EM wave field from the point source excitation inside of the cloak device is presented in this paper. By using the GL modeling simulation, we found a phenomenon that there is no Maxwell EM wave field which is excited by nonzero local sources inside of the single layer cloaked concealment. The theoretical proof of the phenomenon by GL method is proposed in this…
Electromagnetic cloaks are devices that can be used to reduce the total scattering cross section of various objects. An ideal cloak removes all scattering from an object and thus makes this object "invisible" to the electromagnetic fields that impinge on the object. However, ideal cloaking appears to be possible only at a single frequency. To study cloaking from an electromagnetic pulse we consider propagation of a pulse inside a waveguide with a cloaked metal object inside. There are several ways to achieve cloaking and in this paper we study three such methods, namely, the coordinate-transfo…
We employ the analytical results for the spatial transformation of the electromagnetic fields to obtain and analyze explicit expressions for the structure of the electromagnetic fields in invisibility cloaks, beam splitters, and field concentrators. We study the efficiency of nonideal electromagnetic cloaks and discuss the effect of scattering losses on the cloak invisibility.
Electromagnetic metamaterials provide unprecedented freedom and flexibility to introduce new devices, which control electromagnetic wave propagation in very unusual ways. Very recently theoretical design of an "invisibility cloak" has been suggested, which has been realized at microwave frequencies in a two-dimensional cylindrical geometry. In this communication we report on the experimental realization of the dielectric permittivity distribution required for non-magnetic cloaking in the visible frequency range.
Electromagnetic invisibility cloak requires material with anisotropic distribution of the constitutive parameters deduced from a geometrical transformation as first proposed by Pendry et al. [Science 312, 1780 (2006)]. In this paper, we proposed a useful method to realize the required radius-dependent, anisotropic material parameters and to construct an electromagnetic cloak through concentric layered structure of thin, alternating layers of homogeneous isotropic materials. With proper design of the permittivity or the thickness ratio of the alternating layers, we demonstrated the low-reflecti…
We give a comprehensive study on regularized approximate electromagnetic cloaking via the transformation optics approach. The following aspects are investigated: (i) near-invisibility cloaking of passive media as well as active/radiating sources; (ii) the existence of cloak- busting inclusions without lossy medium lining; (iii) overcoming the cloaking-busts by employing a lossy layer outside the cloaked region; (iv) the frequency dependence of the cloaking performances. We address these issues and connect the obtained asymptotic results to singular ideal cloaking. Numerical verifications and d…
Electromagnetic invisible devices usually designed by transformation optics are rather complicated in material parameters and not suitable for general applications. Recently a topology optimized cloak based on level-set method was proposed to realize nearly perfect cloaking by Fujii et al [Appl. Phys. Lett. 102, 251106 (2013)]. In this work we experimentally implemented this idea and fabricated a unidirectional cloak with a relative large invisible region made of single dielectric material. Good cloaking performance was verified through measurement which consists very well with numerical simul…
An analytical method of electromagnetic wave interactions with a general radially anisotropic cloak is established. It is able to deal with arbitrary parameters ($ε_r(r)$, $μ_r(r)$, $ε_t(r)$ and $μ_t(r)$) of a radially anisotropic inhomogeneous shell. The general cloaking condition is proposed from the wave relations for the first time. We derive the parameters of a novel class of spherical nonlinear cloaks and examine its invisibility performance by the proposed method at various nonlinear situations. Spherical metamaterial cloaks with improved invisibility performance is achieved with optima…
We propose a generalization of the two-dimensional eikonal-limit cloak derived from a conformal transformation to three dimensions. The proposed cloak is a spherical shell composed of only isotropic media; it operates in the transmission mode and requires no mirror or ground plane. Unlike the well-known omnidirectional spherical cloaks, it may reduce visibility of an arbitrary object only for a very limited range of observation angles. In the short-wavelength limit, this cloaking structure restores not only the trajectories of incident rays, but also their phase, which is a necessary ingredien…
Based on a coordinate transformation approach, Pendry {\it et al.} have reported electromagnetically anisotropic and inhomogeneous shells that, in theory, completely shield an interior structure of arbitrary size from electromagnetic fields without perturbing the external fields. We report full-wave simulations of the cylindrical version of this cloaking structure using ideal and nonideal (but physically realizable) electromagnetic parameters in an effort to understand the challenges of realizing such a structure in practice. The simulations indicate that the performance of the electromagnetic…

In the past years quasi-conformal mapping has been typically used to design broadband electromagnetic cloaks. However, this technique has some inherit practical limitations such as the lateral beam shift, rendering the device visible or difficult to hide a large object. In this work we circumvent these issues by using strict conformal mapping to build the first isotropic cloak. Microwave near-field measurement shows that our device (with dielectric constant larger than unity everywhere) has a very good cloaking performance and a broad frequency response. The present dielectric approach could b…
Invisibility cloaks of light, which used to be confined to the imagination, have now been turned into a scientific reality, thanks to the enabling theoretical tools of transformation optics and conformal mapping. Inspired by those theoretical works, the experimental realisation of electromagnetic invisibility cloaks has been reported at various electromagnetic frequencies. All the invisibility cloaks demonstrated thus far, however, have relied on nano- or micro-fabricated artificial composite materials with spatially varying electromagnetic properties, which limit the size of the cloaked regio…
The technique of applying form-invariant, spatial coordinate transformations of Maxwell's equations can facilitate the design of structures with unique electromagnetic or optical functionality. Here, we illustrate the transformation-optical approach in the designs of a square electromagnetic cloak and an omni-directional electromagnetic field concentrator. The transformation equations are described and the functionality of the devices is numerically confirmed by two-dimensional finite element simulations. The two devices presented demonstrate that the transformation optic approach leads to the…
A new recipe for concealing objects from detection is suggested. Different with traditional cloak which deflects light around the core of the cloak to make the object inside invisible, our cloak guides the light to penetrate the core of the cloak but without striking some region of the cloak shell - the so called folded region. Full wave analytical calculation shows that this cloak will lead to a scattering enhancement instead of scattering reduction in contrast to the traditional cloak; the scattered field distribution can also be changed as if the scatterer is moved from its original positio…
Beginning with a straightforward formulation of electromagnetic cloaking that reduces to a boundary value problem involving a single Maxwell first-order differential equation, explicit formulae for the relative permittivity-permeability dyadic and fields of spherical and circular cylindrical annular cloaks are derived in terms of general compressed radial coordinate functions. The general formulation is based on the requirements that the cloaking occurs for all possible incident fields and that the cloaks with frequency w > 0 have continuous tangential E and H fields across their outer surface…
There is currently a great deal of interest in the invisibility cloaks recently proposed by Pendry et al. that are based in the transformation approach. They obtained their results using first order transformations. In recent papers Hendi et al. and Cai et al. considered invisibility cloaks with high order transformations. In this paper we study high order electromagnetic invisibility cloaks in transformation media obtained by high order transformations from general anisotropic media. We consider the case where there is a finite number of spherical cloaks located in different points in space. …
There is currently a great deal of interest in the theoretical and practical possibility of cloaking objects from the observation by electromagnetic waves. The basic idea of these invisibility devices \cite{glu1, glu2, le},\cite{pss1} is to use anisotropic {\it transformation media} whose permittivity and permeability $\var^{λν}, μ^{λν}$, are obtained from the ones, $\var_0^{λν}, μ^{λν}_0$, of isotropic media, by singular transformations of coordinates. In this paper we study electromagnetic cloaking in the time-domain using the formalism of time-dependent scattering theory. This formalism all…
We propose a general method to circumvent the singularity of arbitrary 2D cloaks, which arises from infinitely large values of material parameters at inner boundaries. The presented method is based on the deformation view of the transformation design method. It is shown that by adjusting the principle stretch out of the cloaking plane, 2D cloaks of arbitrary shapes without singularity can be constructed. It is also demonstrated that the method based on the equivalent dispersion relation and the design method for nonsingular 2D cloak from mirror-symmetric cross section of 3D cloak can be derive…
We show that dielectric or even perfectly conducting cylinders can be cloaked by a uniform or a layered dielectric cladding, without the need of any exotic or magnetic material parameters. In particular, we start by presenting a simple analytical concept that can accurately describe the cloaking effect obtained with conical silver plates in the visible spectrum. The modeled structure has been originally presented in [S. A. Tretyakov, P. Alitalo, O. Luukkonen, C. R. Simovski, Phys. Rev. Lett., vol. 103, p. 103905, 2009], where its operation as a cloak in the optical frequencies was studied only…
In this paper, we present an efficient spectral-element method (SEM) for solving general two-dimensional Helmholtz equations in anisotropic media, with particular applications in accurate simulation of polygonal invisibility cloaks, concentrators and circular rotators arisen from the field of transformation electromagnetics (TE). In practice, we adopt a transparent boundary condition (TBC) characterized by the Dirichlet-to-Neumann (DtN) map to reduce wave propagation in an unbounded domain to a bounded domain. We then introduce a semi-analytic technique to integrate the global TBC with local c…
The electromagnetic characteristics of plane-transformed invisibility cloaks are quantitatively studied in this paper. We take elliptical cylindrical cloak as the example, and use an elliptical cylindrical wave expansion method to obtain the scattered field. It is demonstrated that an ideal elliptical cylindrical cloak is inherently visible. Noticeable field scattering and penetration will be induced when the cloak is exposed directly to an electromagnetic wave. However, as long as the cloak consists of a perfect electric conducting lining at the interior surface, perfect invisibility can stil…
In this paper we study point transformed electromagnetic invisibility cloaks in transformation media that are obtained by transformation from general anisotropic media. We assume that there are several cloaks located in different points in space. Our results apply in particular to the first order invisibility cloaks introduced by Pendry et al. and to the high order invisibility cloaks introduced by Hendi et al. and by Cai et al.. We identify the appropriate {\it cloaking boundary conditions} that the solutions of Maxwell equations have to satisfy at the outside, $\partial K_+$, and at the insi…
The electromagnetic field solution for a spherical invisibility cloak with an active device inside is established. Extraordinary electric and magnetic surface voltages are induced at the inner boundary of a spherical cloak, which prevent electromagnetic waves from going out. The phase and handness of polarized waves obliquely incident on such boundaries is kept in the reflected waves. The surface voltages due to an electric dipole inside the concealed region are found equal to the auxiliary scalar potentials at the inner boundary, which consequently gain physical counterparts in this case.
The onset of transformation optics has opened avenues for designing of a plenitude of applications related to propagation of electromagnetic waves in anisotropic media. In this paper, an algorithm is proposed using a coordinate transformation and a piecewise function for the purpose of designing a three dimensional cloak having an arbitrary geometry which could be convex or non-convex in nature. The surfaces of the cloak as well as of the body under consideration are assumed to be conformal to each other. For an arbitrary geometry, the coordinate system needed to model the surface can be a non…
The concept of an invisibility cloak is a fixture of science fiction, fantasy, and the collective imagination. However, a real device that could hide an object from sight in visible light from absolutely any viewpoint would be extremely challenging to build. The main obstacle to creating such a cloak is the coupling of the electromagnetic components of light, which would necessitate the use of complex materials with specific permittivity and permeability tensors. Previous cloaking solutions have involved circumventing this obstacle by functioning either in static (or quasi-static) fields where…
Invisibility cloaking not only catches the human imagination, but also promises fascinating applications in optics and photonics. By manipulating electromagnetic waves with metamaterials, researchers have been able to realize electromagnetic cloaking in the microwave, terahertz and optical regimes. Nevertheless, the complex design and fabrication process, narrow bandwidth, and high intrinsic losses in the metamaterial-based cloaks have imposed intractable limitations on their realistic applications. Seeking new approaches to overcome these perceived disadvantages is in progress. Here by using …
Artificially structured metamaterials have enabled unprecedented flexibility in manipulating electromagnetic waves and producing new functionalities, including the cloak of invisibility based on coordinate transformation. Here we present the design of a non-magnetic cloak operating at optical frequencies. The principle and structure of the proposed cylindrical cloak are analyzed, and the general recipe for the implementation of such a device is provided. The cloaking performance is verified using full-wave finite-element simulations.
Electromagnetic cloaking refers to the ability to prevent an object from scattering an incident electromagnetic field. This has been accomplished in recent works by routing the incident field around the object or by changing the scattering properties of the object itself through specially designed materials, surfaces or guiding structures. In this letter, we introduce a new way of cancelling the electromagnetic scattering of an object by using an array of sources. We show that by superimposing magnetic and electric surface current densities at the boundary of an object, the scattered fields fr…
We investigate electromagnetic scattering and plasmonic cloaking in a system composed by a dielectric cylinder coated with a magneto-optical shell. In the long-wavelength limit we demonstrate that the application of an external magnetic field can not only switch on and off the cloaking mechanism but also mitigate losses, as the absorption cross-section is shown to be minimal precisely at the cloaking operation frequency band. We also show that the angular distribution of the scattered radiation can be effectively controlled by applying an external magnetic field, allowing for a swift change in…
In this paper, we proposed the GLHUA double layer cloak; proved the properties of GLHUA double layer cloak; Using GL no scattering inversion and the pre cloak condition 6.1 to 6.4 in paper [1], we create GLHUA outer layer cloak radial relative parameter and angular relative parameter theoretically. We proved theorem 4.1 to theorem 4.4 that the phase velocity of the electromagnetic wave in GLHUA outer layer cloak is less than light speed and tends to zero at the boundary $r=R_1$, the EM wave tends to zero at $r=R1$; When source $r_s > R_2$ in the outside of the cloak and observer $r_o < R_o$ in…
The coordinate transformation offers a remarkable way to design cloaks that can steer electromagnetic fields so as to prevent waves from penetrating into the {\em cloaked region} (denoted by $Ω_0$, where the objects inside are invisible to observers outside). The ideal circular and elliptic cylindrical cloaked regions are blown up from a point and a line segment, respectively, so the transformed material parameters and the corresponding coefficients of the resulted equations are highly singular at the cloaking boundary $\partial Ω_0$. The electric field or magnetic field is not continuous acro…
In light of the surge in popularity of electromagnetic cloaking devices, we consider whether it is possible to use gravitational lensing to cloak a volume of spacetime. A metric for such a spacetime geometry is presented, and its geometric and physical implications are explained.
In an electromagnetic cloak based on a transformation approach, reduced sets of material properties are generally favored due to their easier implementation in reality, although a seemingly inevitable drawback of undesired reflection exists in such cloaks. Here we suggest using high-order transformations to create smooth moduli at the outer boundary of the cloak, therefore completely eliminating the detrimental scattering within the limit of geometric optics. We apply this scheme to a non-magnetic cylindrical cloak and demonstrate that the scattered field is reduced substantially in a cloak wi…
We demonstrate in this letter a unique approach for watching outside while hiding in a carpet cloaking based on transformation optics. Unlike conventional carpet cloaking, which screens all the incident electromagnetic waves, we break the cloak and allow incident light get into the carpet. Hence outside information is detected inside the cloak. To recover the invisible cloaking, complementary techniques are applied in the broken space. Consequently, a hiding-inside-and-watching-outside (HIWO) carpet cloak is sewed, which works as a perfectly invisible cloaking and allows surveillance of the ou…
In this contribution, we present the design of cylindrical electromagnetic cloaks working at optical frequencies, making use of layered structures of plasmonic and non-plasmonic materials. The simulated results confirm the validity of the proposed approach and show a rather broad-band behavior of the cloaking device.
Invisibility cloak capable of hiding an object can be achieved by properly manipulating electromagnetic field. Such a remarkable ability has been shown in transformation and ray optics. Alternatively, it may be realistic to create a spatial cloak by means of confining electromagnetic field in three-dimensional arrayed waveguides and introducing appropriate collective curvature surrounding an object. We realize the artificial structure in borosilicate by femtosecond laser direct writing, where we prototype up to 5000 waveguides to conceal millimeter-scale volume. We characterize the performance…
Coordinate-transformation cloaking is based on the design of a metamaterial shell made of an anisotropic, spatially inhomogeneous "transformation medium" that allows rerouting the impinging wave around a given region of space. In its original version, it is generally believed that, in the ideal limit, the radiation cannot penetrate the cloaking shell (from outside to inside, and viceversa). However, it was recently shown by Chen et al. that electromagnetic fields may actually penetrate the cloaked region, provided that this region contains double-negative transformation media which, via proper…
Recently, it was shown that an infinite perfectly conducting (PEC) cylinder can be nearly perfectly cloaked from normally incident electromagnetic waves using a single-layer homogeneous dielectric cladding. Here we study the electromagnetic response of such structures with the goal to understand the main mechanisms underpinning this cloaking phenomenon. We introduce a simple model of the cloaked PEC cylinder, replacing it by an omnidirectional electric-line scatterer and a bipolar magnetic one; accordingly, the far field is determined in a compact closed form. The analysis of the results shows…
Nonmagnetic cloak offers a feasible way to achieve invisibility at optical frequencies using materials with only electric responses. In this letter, we suggest an approximation of the ideal nonmagnetic cloak and quantitatively study its electromagnetic characteristics using a full-wave scattering theory. It is demonstrated that the forward scattering of the impedance matched cloak increases dramatically as the thickness of the cloak decreases. Nevertheless, it is still possible to effectively reduce the total scattering cross section with a very thin cloak whose impedance is not matched to the…
It was proposed that perfect invisibility cloaks can be constructed for hiding objects from electromagnetic illumination (Pendry et al., Science 312, p. 1780). The cylindrical cloaks experimentally demonstrated (Schurig et al., Science 314, p. 997) and proposed (Cai et al., Nat. Photon. 1, p. 224) have however simplified material parameters in order to facilitate easier realization as well as to avoid infinities in optical constants. Here we show that the cylindrical cloaks with simplified material parameters inherently allow the zeroth-order cylindrical wave to pass through the cloak as if th…
The suggestive idea of "cloaking" an electromagnetic sensor, i.e., strongly reducing its visibility (scattering) while maintaining its field-sensing (absorption) capabilities, has recently been proposed in the literature, based on scattering-cancellation, Fano-resonance, or transformation-optics approaches. In this paper, we explore an alternative, transformation-optics-based route, which relies on the recently-introduced concept of "anti-cloaking." More specifically, our proposed approach relies on a suitable tailoring of the competing cloaking and anti-cloaking mechanisms, interacting in a t…
Through a particularly chosen coordinate transformation, we propose an optical carpet cloak that only requires homogeneous anisotropic dielectric material. The proposed cloak could be easily imitated and realized by alternative layers of isotropic dielectrics. To demonstrate the cloaking performance, we have designed a two-dimensional version that a uniform silicon grating structure fabricated on a silicon-on-insulator wafer could work as an infrared carpet cloak. The cloak has been validated through full wave electromagnetic simulations, and the non-resonance feature also enables a broadband …
Electromagnetic wave behaviour in an anisotropic medium with a two dimensional arbitrary geometry is studied. The aim is to trace the path of a ray in such a complex medium for the purpose of achieving cloaking (invisibility). A coordinate transformation is carried out for the formulation of an annular region at the centre of the structure whose topology is a scaled geometry of outer boundary of the structure.
In this paper, we present the design of cylindrical and spherical electromagnetic cloaks working at visible frequencies. The cloak design is based on the employment of layered structures consisting of alternating plasmonic and non-plasmonic materials and exhibiting the collective behavior of an effective epsilon-near-zero material at optical frequencies. The design of a cylindrical cloak to hide cylindrical objects is firstly presented. Two alternative layouts are proposed and both magnetic and non-magnetic objects are considered. Then, the design of spherical cloaks is also presented. The ful…
We propose a new class of resonant electromagnetic structures, and study their response to free-space illumination. The structures consist of partial cylindrical shells that have cloaking material properties proposed by Pendry et al. These metamaterial shells have apertures that allow the propagation of incident irradiation into an interior resonant cavity. We use full wave time-harmonic analysis to study the field distribution inside the cavity, and show that an analogue of Whispering Gallery Modes (WGMs) can be efficiently excited via free-space illumination.
Ground-plane cloak designs are presented, which minimize scattering of electromagnetic radiation from metallic objects in the visible spectrum. It is showed that simplified ground-plane cloaks made from only a few blocks of all-dielectric isotropic materials, either embedded in a background medium or in free space, can provide considerable cloaking performance while maintaining their broadband nature. A design which operates isolated in free space that cloaks radiation originating from a specified direction is also analyzed. These schemes should be much easier to be demonstrated experimentally…
We present measurements of a transmission-line network, designed for cloaking applications in the microwave region. The network is used for channelling microwave energy through an electrically dense array of metal objects, which is basically impenetrable to the impinging electromagnetic radiation. With the designed transmission-line network the waves emitted by a source placed in an air-filled waveguide, are coupled into the network and guided through the array of metallic objects. Our goal is to illustrate the simple manufacturing, assembly, and the general feasibility of these types of cloak…
A cloak that can hide living creatures from sight is a common feature of mythology but still remains unrealized as a practical device. To preserve the phase of wave, the previous cloaking solution proposed by Pendry \emph{et al.} required transforming electromagnetic space around the hidden object in such a way that the rays bending around it have to travel much faster than those passing it by. The difficult phase preservation requirement is the main obstacle for building a broadband polarization insensitive cloak for large objects. Here, we suggest a simplifying version of Pendry's cloak by a…
Metamaterials have paved the way to unprecedented control of the electromagnetic field1,2. The conjunction with space coordinate transformation has led to a novel "relativity inspired" approach for the control of light propagation. "Invisibility cloak" is the most fascinating proposed devices3,4. However, the realized structures up to now used a graded "metamagnetic" so as to achieve the cloaking function11. Artificial magnetism is however still very challenging to obtain in optics despite the currently promising building blocks13-17, not suited for optical cloaking. We report here the first e…
Invisible cloaking is one of major outcomes of the metamaterial research, but the practical potential, in particular for high frequencies (e.g., microwave to visible light), is fatally challenged by the complex material properties they usually demand. On the other hand, it will be advantageous and also technologically instrumental to design cloaking devices for applications at low frequencies where electromagnetic components are favorably uncoupled. In this work, we vastly develop the bilayer approach to create a three-dimensional magnetic cloak able to work in both static and dynamic fields. …
The straightforward method of transformation optics implies that one starts from the coordinate transformation, determines the Jacobian matrix, the fields and material parameters of the cloak. However, the coordinate transformation appears as an optional function: it is not necessary to know it. We offer the solution of some sort of the inverse problem: starting from the fields in the invisibility cloak we directly derive the permittivity and permeability tensors of the cloaking shell. The approach can be useful for finding material parameters for the specified electromagnetic fields in the cl…
Cloaking techniques conceal objects by controlling the flow of electromagnetic waves to minimize scattering. Herein, the effectiveness of homogenized anisotropic materials in non-resonant dielectric multilayer cloaking is studied. Because existing multilayer cloaking by isotropic materials can be regarded as homogenous anisotropic cloaking from a macroscopic view, anisotropic materials can be efficiently designed through optimization of their physical properties. Anisotropic properties can be realized in two-phase composites if the physical properties of the material are within appropriate bou…
The intriguing concept of "anti-cloaking" has been recently introduced within the framework of transformation optics (TO), first as a "countermeasure" to invisibility-cloaking (i.e., to restore the scattering response of a cloaked target), and more recently in connection with "sensor invisibility" (i.e., to strongly reduce the scattering response while maintaining the field-sensing capabilities). In this paper, we extend our previous studies, which were limited to a two-dimensional cylindrical scenario, to the three-dimensional spherical case. More specifically, via a generalized (coordinate-m…
