We search for asymptotic safety in a Yukawa system with a chiral $U(N_L)_L\otimes U(1)_R$ symmetry, serving as a toy model for the standard-model Higgs sector. Using the functional RG as a nonperturbative tool, the leading-order derivative expansion exhibits admissible non-Ga\ssian fixed-points for $1 \leq N_L \leq 57$ which arise from a conformal threshold behavior induced by self-balanced boson-fermion fluctuations. If present in the full theory, the fixed-point would solve the triviality problem. Moreover, as one fixed point has only one relevant direction even with a reduced hierarchy problem, the Higgs mass as well as the top mass are a prediction of the theory in terms of the Higgs vacuum expectation value. In our toy model, the fixed point is destabilized at higher order due to massless Goldstone and fermion fluctuations, which are particular to our model and have no analogue in the standard model.
Effective field theory provides a new perspective on the predictive power of Renormalization Group fixed points. Critical trajectories between different fixed points confine the regions of UV-complete, IR-complete, as well as conformal theories. The associated boundary surfaces cannot be crossed by the Renormalization Group flow of any effective field theory. We delineate cases in which the boundary surface acts as an infrared attractor for generic effective field theories. Gauge-Yukawa theories serve as an example that is both perturbative and of direct phenomenological interest. We identify …
The nature of dark matter and the fundamental quantum structure of spacetime could be directly linked in the asymptotic-safety framework. A toy model for the visible Higgs-Yukawa sector of the Standard Model, coupled to a dark sector through a portal coupling, provides a very first example for a model that simultaneously i) could become asymptotically safe at non-vanishing portal coupling, ii) could feature a strongly enhanced predictive power with calculable values for all interactions and thereby iii) give rise to calculable relations between the masses of the dark particles, their self-inte…
We propose matter wavefunctions on resolutions of $T^2/\mathbb{Z}_N$ singularities with constant magnetic fluxes. In the blow-down limit, the obtained wavefunctions of chiral zero-modes result in those on the magnetized $T^2/\mathbb{Z}_N$ orbifold models, but the wavefunctions of $\mathbb{Z}_N$-invariant zero-modes receive the blow-up effects around fixed points of $T^2/\mathbb{Z}_N$ orbifolds. Such blow-up effects change the selection rules and Yukawa couplings among the chiral zero-modes as well as the modular symmetry, in contrast to those on the magnetized $T^2/\mathbb{Z}_N$ orbifold model…
We determine central charges, critical exponents and appropriate gradient flow relations for nonsupersymmetric vector-like and chiral Gauge-Yukawa theories that are fundamental according to Wilson and that feature calculable UV or IR interacting fixed points. We further uncover relations and identities among the various local and global conformal data. This information is used to provide the first extensive characterisation of general classes of free and safe quantum field theories of either chiral or vector-like nature via their conformal data. Using large $N_f$ techniques we also provide exa…
The measurements of the muon and electron anomalous magnetic moments hint at physics beyond the standard model. We show why and how models inspired by asymptotic safety can explain deviations from standard model predictions naturally. Our setup features an enlarged scalar sector and Yukawa couplings between leptons and new vector-like fermions. Using the complete two-loop running of couplings, we observe a well-behaved high energy limit of models including a stabilization of the Higgs. We find that a manifest breaking of lepton universality beyond standard model Yukawas is not necessary to exp…
We discover that asymptotically safe quantum gravity could predict the top-quark mass. For a broad range of microscopic gravitational couplings, quantum gravity could provide an ultraviolet completion for the Standard Model by triggering asymptotic freedom in the gauge couplings and bottom Yukawa and asymptotic safety in the top-Yukawa and Higgs-quartic coupling. We find that in a part of this range, a difference of the top and bottom mass of approximately $170\, \rm GeV$ is generated and the Higgs mass is determined in terms of the top mass. Assuming no new physics below the Planck scale, we …
Using Majorana fermions and elementary mesons we find new massless quantum field theories with weakly interacting ultraviolet fixed points. We also find new classes of large N equivalences amongst SU, SO and Sp gauge theories with different types of matter fields and Yukawa interactions. Results include a triality of asymptotically safe theories and dualities between asymptotically free matter-gauge theories with identical fixed points, phase diagrams, and scaling exponents. Implications for conformal field theory and orbifold reductions are indicated.
We establish the universal torus low-energy spectra at the free Dirac fixed point and at the strongly coupled chiral Ising fixed point and their subtle crossover behaviour in the Gross-Neuveu-Yukawa field theory with ${n_\text{D}=4}$ component Dirac spinors in $D=(2+1)$ dimensions. These fixed points and the field theories are directly relevant for the long-wavelength physics of certain interacting Dirac systems, such as repulsive spinless fermions on the honeycomb lattice or $π$-flux square lattice. The torus energy spectrum has been shown previously to serve as a characteristic fingerprint o…
Spin 1/2 fields localization on an asymmetric dS${}_4$ scenario, where the brane interpolates between two spacetimes dS${}_5$ and AdS${}_5$, is determined. The bulk spinor is coupled to scalar field of the brane by a nonminimal Yukawa term compatible with the scenario's geometry. We show that, independently of wall's thickness, only one massless chiral mode is localized on the wall. The massive chiral modes follow a Schrödinger equation, whose potential has a mass gap determined by Yukawa constant, which is a generic property of this system. The fermions spectrum is defined bellow the gap, by …
We study the prethermal dynamics of the Gross-Neveu-Yukawa quantum field theory, suddenly quenched in the vicinity of a quantum critical point. We find that the universal prethermal dynamics is controlled by two fixed points depending on the size of the quench. Besides the usual equilibrium chiral Ising fixed point for a shallow quench, a dynamical chiral Ising fixed point is identified for a deep quench. Intriguingly, the latter is a non-thermal fixed point without any equilibrium counterpart due to the participation of gapless fermionic fields. We also find that in the scaling regime control…
In this talk we present a numerical lattice study of an SU(3) gauge model where an SU(2) doublet of non-Abelian strongly interacting fermions is coupled to a complex scalar field doublet via a Yukawa and a Wilson-like term. The model enjoys an exact symmetry, acting on all fields, which prevents UV power divergent fermion mass corrections, despite the presence of these two chiral breaking operators in the Lagrangian. In the phase where the scalar potential is non-degenerate and fermions are massless, the bare Yukawa coupling can be set at a critical value at which chiral fermion transformation…
