The effects of pressure generated in a liquid medium, clamp, pressure cell on the in-plane and c-axis resistance, temperature-dependent Hall coefficient and low temperature, magnetoresistance in CaFe2As2 are presented. The T - P phase diagram, including the observation of a complete superconducting transition in resistivity, delineated in earlier studies is found to be highly reproducible. The Hall resistivity and low temperature magnetoresistance are sensitive to different states/phases observed in CaFe2As2. Auxiliary measurements under uniaxial, c-axis, pressure are in general agreement with the liquid medium clamp cell results with some difference in critical pressure values and pressure derivatives. The data may be viewed as supporting the potential importance of non-hydrostatic components of pressure in inducing superconductivity in CaFe2As2.
We compare magnetotransport measurements under pressure on the organic superconductor $κ$-(BEDT-TTF)$_{2}$Cu(SCN)$_{2}$ with different pressure-media and discover that the results are pressure media dependent. This pressure-medium dependence is thought to originate from the difference in thermal contraction between the very soft and highly anisotropic sample and the isotropically contracting, but solid pressure medium, thus resulting in non-hydrostatic pressure on the sample. However, comparison of pressure measurements with different media reveals a pressure-medium independent correlation bet…
Resistivity and Hall effect measurements of EuFe$_2$As$_2$ up to 3.2\,GPa indicate no divergence of quasiparticle effective mass at the pressure $P_\mathrm{c}$ where the magnetic and structural transition disappears. This is corroborated by analysis of the temperature ($T$) dependence of the upper critical field. $T$-linear resistivity is observed at pressures slightly above $P_\mathrm{c}$. The scattering rates for both electrons and holes are shown to be approximately $T$-linear. When a field is applied, a $T^2$ dependence is recovered, indicating that the origin of the $T$-linear dependence …
The resistivity $ρ$ and Hall resistivity $ρ_H$ are measured on FeSe at pressures up to $P$ = 28.3 kbar in magnetic fields up to $B$ = 14.5 T. The $ρ(B)$ and $ρ_H(B)$ curves are analyzed with multicarrier models to estimate the carrier density and mobility as a function of $P$ and temperature ($ T\leqslant$ 110 K). It is shown that the pressure-induced antiferromagnetic transition is accompanied by an abrupt reduction of the carrier density and scattering. This indicates that the electronic structure is reconstructed significantly by the antiferromagnetic order.
We report magnetoresistivity measurements on strongly underdoped YBa_2Cu_3O_x (x=6.25, 6.36) single crystals in applied magnetic fields H || c-axis. We identify two different contributions to both in-plane and out-of-plane magnetoresistivities. The first contribution has the same sign as the temperature coefficient of the resistivity \partial ln(ρ_i)/\partial T (i={c,ab}). This contribution reflects the incoherent nature of the out-of-plane transport. The second contribution is positive, quadratic in field, with an onset temperature that correlates to the antiferromagnetic ordering.
The discoveries of iron-based superconductors with relatively high transition temperature are under intense experimental and theoretical investigation. Here we present magnetotransport measurements on FeSe superconductor under hydrostatic pressure. We show that in Fe-deficient tetragonal FeSe binary compound, the onset of superconducting transition is almost doubled under 1.98GPa pressure and the estimated upper critical field of 26.7Tesla is increased to 47.5Tesla.

We report the magnetotransport properties of Bi_{2}Sr_{2-x}La_{x}Cu_{1-z}Zn_{z}O_{6+δ} (Zn-doped BSLCO) single crystals with z of up to 2.2%. Besides the typical Zn-doping effects on the in-plane resistivity and the Hall angle, we demonstrate that the nature of the low-temperature normal state in the Zn-doped samples is significantly altered from that in the pristine samples under high magnetic fields. In particular, we observe nearly-isotropic negative magnetoresistance as well as an increase in the Hall coefficient at very low temperatures in non-superconducting Zn-doped samples, which we pr…
In-plane and out-of-plane magnetoresistivities (MR) of antiferromagnetic YBa_2Cu_3O_6.25 single crystals were measured in magnetic fields H applied along the (ab) plane. In-plane MR is a superposition of two components: The first component is strongly in-plane anisotropic, changing sign from negative when H is parallel to the electrical current I to positive when H is perpendicular to I. The second component is positive, quadratic in H, and isotropic in the (ab)-plane. The out-of-plane MR displays a fourfold symmetry upon in-plane rotation of the magnetic field, with maxima along the easy axes…
We report resistivity $ρ$ and Hall effect measurements on EuFe$_2$As$_2$ at ambient pressure and 28 kbar and magnetization measurements at ambient pressure. We analyze the temperature and magnetic-field dependence of $ρ$ and the Hall effect using a molecular-field theory for magnetoresistance and an empirical formula for the anomalous Hall effect and find that electron scattering due to the Eu$^{2+}$ local moments plays only a minor role in determining electronic transport properties of EuFe$_2$As$_2$.
The normal-state magnetotransport properties of La_{2-x}Ba_{x}CuO_{4} single crystals with x=0.095 are measured; at this composition, a structural transition to a low-temperature-tetragonal (LTT) phase occurs without suppression of superconductivity. None of the measured properties (in-plane and out-of-plane resistivity, magnetoresistance, and Hall coefficient) shows any sudden change at the LTT phase transition, indicating that the occurrence of the LTT phase does not necessarily cause an immediate change in the electronic state such as the charge-stripe stabilization.
We have measured resistivity along the a, b and c axes of Li$_{0.9}$Mo$_6$O$_{17}$ single crystal. The anisotropy $ρ$$_c$ / $ρ$$_a$ and $ρ$$_c$ / $ρ$$_b$ is given, confirming the quasi-one-dimensionality of the compound. The sharp decrease in the anisotropy below a certain temperature (T$_M$) indicates dimensional crossover. Superconductivity occurs at 1.8 K well below $T_M$. Negative MRs are observed with magnetic field (H) applied along b axis. This could be ascribed to suppression of energy gap associated with CDW state. While large positive MR is observed with H $\parallel$ c-axis. The MR …
We report the results of our detailed magnetotransport studies on single crystals of the antiferromagnetic heavy-fermion superconductor Ce$_3$PdIn$_{11}$. Electrical resistivity measurements, carried out in different magnetic field orientations with respect to the crystallographic axes, were mainly aimed to amass further insight about the magnetically ordered state. The results manifest a clear metamagnetic transitions in the ordered phase when the applied field is parallel to the tetragonal $c$ axis, while no similar features are seen for the transverse direction, i.e., with the field confine…
The anisotropic properties of an optimally doped Nd_{1.85}Ce_{0.15}CuO_{4-δ} single crystal have been studied both below and above the critical temperature Tc via the resistivity measurement in magnetic field H up to 12 T. By scaling the conductivity fluctuation around the superconducting transition, the upper critical field H_{c2}(T) has been determined for field parallel to the c-axis or to the basal ab-plane. The anisotropy factor γ={H_c2||ab}/{H_c2||c} is estimated to be about 8. In the normal state (50=<T=<180 K), the magnetoresistance (MR) basically follows an H^2 dependence and for H||c…
We present a systematic study of the dc-resistivity, Hall effect, and magnetoresistance in the normal state of quasi 2D heavy fermion superconductors CeMIn5 (M: Rh and Co) under pressure. Here the electronic system evolves with pressure from an antiferromagnetic (AF) metal, through a highly unconventional non-Fermi liquid, and finally into a Fermi-liquid state. The amplitude of the Hall coefficient increases dramatically with decreasing T, reaching at low temperatures a value significantly larger than 1/ne. Furthermore, the magnetoresistance is characterized by T- and H-dependence which clearl…
Presence of Oxygen (O2) has been found by Energy Dispersive X-ray Analysis (EDAX) on the surfaces of flux grown BaFe2As2 single crystals which were kept in air ambience for several months. Transport studies show that the O2 adsorbed crystals are more resistive and do not display any sharp slope change near 140 K which is the well known Spin Density Wave (SDW) transition temperature (TSDW) accompanying structural transition for as grown BaFe2As2. An anomalous slope change in resistivity is observed around 18 K at 0 and 5T. Magnetoresistance (MR) is noticed to increase as a function of applied f…
We have investigated the upper critical field anisotropy and magnetotransport properties of Fe1.14(1)Te0.91(2)S0.09(2) single crystals in stable magnetic fields up to 35 T. The results show that u0Hc2(T) along the c axis and in the ab-plane exhibit saturation at low temperatures. The anisotropy of u0Hc2(T) decreases with decreasing temperature, becoming nearly isotropic for T->0. Our analysis indicates that the spin-paramagnetic pair-breaking with spin-orbital scattering is responsible for the behavior of u0Hc2(T). Furthermore, from analysis of the normal state properties, we show evidence tha…
In this study, we conducted various magnetotransport measurements on Fe$_{1+y}$Te$_{1-x}$Se$_{x}$ single crystals from which excess iron was sufficiently removed. Our results revealed that crossover from the incoherent to the coherent electronic state and opening of the pseudogap occur at high temperatures ($\approx$ 150 K for $x$ = 0.2). This is accompanied by a more substantial pseudogap and the emergence of a phase with a multi-band nature at lower temperatures (below $\approx$ 50 K for $x$ = 0.2) before superconductivity sets in. A comparison of these results with those of the as-grown (no…
We report that it is possible to obtain a series of high-quality crystals of La-doped Bi-2201, of which the transport properties have been believed to be "dirtier" than those of other cuprates. In our crystals, the normal-state transport properties display behaviors which are in good accord with other cuprates; for example, in the underdoped region the in-plane resistivity ρ_{ab} shows the pseudogap feature and in the overdoped region the T dependence of ρ_{ab} changes to T^n with n > 1. The characteristic temperatures of the pseudogap deduced from the resistivity and the Hall coefficient data…
We present the result of our accurate measurements of the a- and b-axis resistivity (ρ_a and ρ_b), magnetoconductivity (Δσ/ σ), Hall coefficient R_H, and the a-axis thermopower S_a in untwinned YBa_{2}Cu_{3}O_{y} single crystals in a wide range of doping (6.45 < y < 7.0). The systematics of our data reveals a number of novel 60-K-phase anomalies in the charge transport: (i) Temperature dependences of ρ_a show anomalous overlap below ~130 K for 6.65 < y < 6.80, (ii) Hall mobility μ_H shows an enhancement near y ~ 6.65, which is reflected in an anomalous y dependence of σ_{xy}, (iii) With decrea…
Recently we have succeeded in growing a series of high-quality Bi_{2}Sr_{2-x}La_{x}CuO_{6} crystals in a wide range of carrier concentrations. The data of ρ_{ab}(T) and R_H(T) of those crystals show behaviors that are considered to be "canonical" to the cuprates. The optimum zero-resistance T_c has been raised to as high as 38 K, which is almost equal to the optimum T_c of La_{2-x}Sr_{x}CuO_{4}.
Because of their complex Fermi surfaces, the identification of the physical phenomena contributing to electronic scattering in the Fe-based superconductors is a difficult task. Here, we report on the electrical resistivity, magnetoresistance, and Hall effect in two series of BaFe$_{2-x}$T$_x$As$_2$ (T = Co, Ni) crystals with different values of $x$. The T contents were chosen so that the majority of the investigated samples present an intermediate magnetically ordered state and a superconducting ground state. We interpret the obtained results in terms of scattering of charge carriers by magnet…
Measurements of magnetotransport and current-voltage (I-V) characteristics up to 9 T were used to investigate the vortex phase diagram of an under-doped Measurements of magnetotransport and current-voltage (I-V) characteristics up to 9 T were used to investigate the vortex phase diagram of an under-doped (Ba,K)Fe2As2 single crystal with Tc=26.2 K. It is found that the anisotropy ratio of the upper critical field Hc2 decreases from 4 to 2.8 with decreasing temperature from Tc to 24.8 K. Consistent with the vortex-glass theory, the I-V curves measured at H=9 T can be well scaled with the vortex-…
Magnetotransport properties of the high-quality FeSe crystal, measured in a wide temperature range and in magnetic fields up to 50 T, show the symmetry of the main holelike and electronlike bands in this compound. In addition to the main two bands, there is also a tiny, highly mobile, electronlike band which is responsible for the non-linear behavior of $ρ_{xy}$(B) at low temperatures and some other peculiarities of FeSe. We observe the inversion of the $ρ_{xx}$ temperature coeficient at a magnetic field higher than about 20 T which is an implicit conformation of the electron-hole symmetry in …
We report a detailed study of the electrical transport properties of single crystals of Pr$_4$Fe$_2$As$_2$Te$_{1-x}$O$_4$, a recently discovered iron-based superconductor. Resistivity, Hall effect and magnetoresistance are measured in a broad temperature range revealing the role of electrons as dominant charge carriers. The significant temperature dependence of the Hall coefficient and the violation of Kohler's law indicate multiband effects in this compound. The upper critical field and the magnetic anisotropy are investigated in fields up to 16 T, applied parallel and perpendicular to the cr…
Among the Fe-based superconductors, Fe$_{1+y}$Te$_{1-x}$Se$_{x}$ is unique in that its crystal structure is the simplest and the electron correlation level is the strongest, and thus it is important to investigate the doping($x$)-temperature ($T$) phase diagram of this system. However, inevitably incorporated excess Fe currently prevents the establishment of the true phase diagram. We overcome the aforementioned significant problem via developing a new annealing method termed as "Te-annealing" wherein single crystals are annealed under Te vapor. Specifically, we conducted various magnetotransp…
Here, we present the comparative study of magnetotransport properties of recently discovered Ta2PdTe6 and Nb2PdS5 superconductors. The XRD and magnetotransport measurements are performed on these samples to investigate structure and superconducting properties as well as normal state transport properties of these compounds. Both the compounds are crystallized in monoclinic structure within space group C2m. Here, we observe superconductivity in both the compounds Ta2PdTe6 (Tc =4.4 K) and Nb2PdS5 (Tc =6.6 K). We see a linear magnetoresistance in Ta2PdTe6 as well as violation of Kohler rule in sam…
We report pressure-induced superconductivity in a single crystal of CaFe2As2. At atmospheric pressure, this material is antiferromagnetic below 170 K but under an applied pressure of 0.69 GPa becomes superconducting, with a transition temperature Tc exceeding 10 K. The rate of Tc suppression with applied magnetic field is -0.7 K/T, giving an extrapolated zero-temperature upper critical field of 10-14T.
We have measured the electrical resistivity, magnetoresistance, and Hall effect on several new single crystal samples and one polycrystalline sample of alpha-uranium. The residual resistivity ratios of these samples vary from 13 to 315. Matthiessen's law appears to hold above the onset of the charge density wave phase transitions that begin near 43 K, but not below this temperature. Sharp features at all three charge density wave transitions are observed and the effects of high magnetic fields on them are presented and discussed. The magnetoresistance is anisotropic, reaches 1000% at 2 K and 1…
We report the temperature-pressure (T-P) phase diagram of CePt2In7 single crystals, especially the pressure evolution of the antiferromagnetic order and the emergence of superconductivity, which have been studied by electrical resistivity and ac calorimetry under nearly hydrostatic environments. Compared with its polycrystalline counterpart, bulk superconductivity coexists with antiferromagnetism in a much narrower pressure region. The possible existence of textured superconductivity and local quantum criticality also are observed in CePt2In7, exhibiting a remarkable similarity with CeRhIn5.
The effects of pressure up to $\sim 20$ kbar, on the structural phase transition of lightly Sn-doped BaFe$_2$As$_2$, as well as on the superconducting transition temperature and upper critical field of (Ba$_{0.55}$K$_{0.45}$)Fe$_2$As$_2$ single crystals have been studied. Both transitions decrease with pressure in an almost linear fashion. Under pressure, the upper critical field curve, $H_{c2}(T)$, shifts down in temperature to follow the zero field $T_c$ with very little change in slope.
We report high pressure magnetic susceptibility and electrical resistivity measurements on Ca_{3}Ir_{4}Sn_{13} single crystals up to 60 kbar. These measurements allow us to follow the evolution of the superconducting critical temperature T_c, the resistivity anomaly temperature T*, the superconducting coherence length and the Fermi velocity under pressure. The pressure-temperature phase diagram constructed for Ca_{3}Ir_{4}Sn_{13} shows a dome-shaped pressure dependence of T_c. The initial rise in T_c, which is accompanied by a decrease in T*, is consistent with a reduction in the partial gappi…
Strain is a powerful experimental tool to explore new electronic states and understand unconventional superconductivity. Here, we investigate the effect of uniaxial strain on the nematic and superconducting phase of single crystal FeSe using magnetotransport measurements. We find that the resistivity response to the strain is strongly temperature dependent and it correlates with the sign change in the Hall coefficient being driven by scattering, coupling with the lattice and multiband phenomena. Band structure calculations suggest that under strain the electron pockets develop a large in-plane…
We report a high-pressure single-crystal study of the non-centrosymmetric superconductor YPtBi ($T_c = 0.77$ K). Magnetotransport measurements show a weak metallic behavior with a carrier concentration $n \simeq 2.2 \times 10^{19}$ cm$^{-3}$. Resistivity measurements up to $p = 2.51$ GPa reveal superconductivity is promoted by pressure. The reduced upper critical field $B_{c2}(T)$ curves collapse onto a single curve, with values that exceed the model values for spin-singlet superconductivity. The $B_{c2}$ data point to an odd-parity component in the superconducting order parameter, in accordan…

The evolution of pressure induced superconductivity in single crystal as well as polycrystalline samples of BaFe2As2 has been investigated through temperature dependent electrical resistivity studies in 0-7 GPa pressure range. While the superconducting transition remains incomplete in polycrystalline sample, a clear pressure induced superconductivity with zero resistivity at the expense of magnetic transition, associated with spin density wave (SDW), is observed in the single crystal sample. The superconducting transition temperature (TC) is seen to increase upto a moderate pressure of about ~…
We present heat capacity, c-axis thermal expansion and pressure dependent, low field, temperature dependent magnetization for pressures up to ~ 12 kbar, data for KFe2As2 single crystals. Tc decreases under pressure with dTc/dP ~ -0.10 K/kbar. The inferred uniaxial, c-axis, pressure derivative is positive, dTc/dpc ~ 0.11 K/kbar. The data are analyzed in comparison with those for overdoped Fe-based superconductors. Arguments are presented that superconductivity in KFe2As2 may be different from the other overdoped, Fe-based materials in the 122 family.
Sulfur-doped SnSe single crystal was successfully synthesized using a melt and slow-cooling method. The chemical composition and valence state of the obtained sample were analyzed by X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy. The pressure range of a diamond anvil cell with boron-doped diamond electrodes was upgraded to 104 GPa using nano-polycrystalline diamond anvil to investigate a pressure effect for the sample. Electrical resistivity measurements of sulfur-doped SnSe single crystal showed the insulator-metal-superconductor transition by applying high pressure up to 75.9 GPa.
PrOBiS2 single crystals were successfully grown using a KCl flux. The obtained crystals had a plate-like shape with a typical size of 0.5-1.0 mm and well-developed ab-plane. The Pr valence of the grown crystals, as determined by an X-ray absorption fine structure spectroscopy analysis, was almost trivalent. The PrOBiS2 single crystals did not exhibit superconductivity down to 0.25 K. The transport properties under high pressures up to 50 GPa ensured semiconducting behavior for 2-300 K using a diamond anvil cell.
Mono-arsenide CrAs, endures a helical anti-ferromagnetic order transition at~ 265 K under ambient pressure. Recently, pressure-induced-superconductivity was discovered vicinity to the helical anti-ferromagnetic order in CrAs[Wei Wu et al., Nature Communications 5, 5508 (2014).]. However, the size of crystal grown via tin flux method is as small as 1 mm in longest dimension. In this work, we report the single crystal growth of CrAs with size of 1 * 5 * 1 mm3 via chemical vapor transport method and its physical properties.
Single crystals of MgB2 have been grown at high pressure via the peritectic decomposition of MgNB9. The crystals are of a size up to 1.5x0.9x0.2 mm3 with a weight up to 0.23 mg, and typically have transition temperatures between 37 and 39 with a width of 0.3-0.5 K. Investigations of the P-T phase diagram prove that the MgB2 phase is stable at least up to 2190 C at high hydrostatic pressure in the presence of Mg vapor under high pressure. Small variations of Tc are caused by doping with metal elements from the precursor or annealing of defects during the crystal growth process.
The temperature dependence of the ac susceptibility for single-crystalline Fe1.02Se has been measured at high pressures to 6.7 GPa. The superconducting transition temperature Tc displays a large increase from 7 K to 30 K in the two-phase region at 0.5 - 1 GPa. Further increase in pressure results in the decrease of Tc. The destruction of superconductivity near 7 GPa is presumably related to a structural transition from orthorhombic to hexagonal. .
The high-pressure phase of La(O,F)BiS$_{\mathrm{2}}$ exhibits the highest transition temperature among all the BiS$_{\mathrm{2}}$-based superconductors. Various studies, such as investigation of isotope effects, have been conducted to explain its superconducting mechanism. However, there are very few reports on the electrical transport properties and vibration modes of single crystalline La(O,F)BiS$_{\mathrm{2}}$ under high pressure. In this study, we developed a diamond anvil cell with dual-probe diamond electrodes to measure the electrical transport properties of La(O,F)BiS$_{\mathrm{2}}$ si…
Single crystals of SmFeAsO1-xFy of a size up to 120 micrometers have been grown from NaCl/KCl flux at a pressure of 30 kbar and temperature of 1350-1450 C using the cubic anvil high-pressure technique. The superconducting transition temperature of the obtained single crystals varies between 45 and 53 K.Obtained crystals are characterized by a full diamagnetic response in low magnetic fields and by a high critical current density in high magnetic fields. Structural refinement has been performed on single crystal. Differential thermal analysis investigations at 1 bar Ar pressure show decompositi…
Strong pinning depends on the pinning force strength and number density of effective defects. Using hydrostatic pressure method, we demonstrate that hydrostatic pressure up to 1.2 GPa can significantly enhance flux pinning or Jc by a factor of up to 5 especially in both low and high fields in optimally doped Ba0.6K0.4Fe2As2 crystals. Our analysis on the flux pining mechanism indicate that both pinning centre number density (Np) and pinning force (Fp) are greatly increased by the pressure and contribute to strong pinning.
Unlike the ferropnictide superconductors, which crystallize in a tetragonal crystal structure, binary FeAs forms in an orthorhombic crystal structure, where the local atomic environment resembles a highly distorted variant of the FeAs4 tetrahdedral building block of the ferropnictide superconductors. However, like the parent compounds of the ferropnictide superconductors, FeAs undergoes magnetic ordering at low temperatures, with no evidence favoring a superconducting ground state at ambient pressure. We employ pressure-dependent electrical transport and x-ray diffraction measurements using di…
