Measurements of magnetotransport and current-voltage (I-V) characteristics up to 9 T were used to investigate the vortex phase diagram of an under-doped Measurements of magnetotransport and current-voltage (I-V) characteristics up to 9 T were used to investigate the vortex phase diagram of an under-doped (Ba,K)Fe2As2 single crystal with Tc=26.2 K. It is found that the anisotropy ratio of the upper critical field Hc2 decreases from 4 to 2.8 with decreasing temperature from Tc to 24.8 K. Consistent with the vortex-glass theory, the I-V curves measured at H=9 T can be well scaled with the vortex-glass transition temperature of Tg=20.7 K and critical exponents z=4.1 and v=1. Analyses in different magnetic fields produced almost identical critical exponent values, with some variation in Tg, corroborating the existence of the vortex-glass transition in this under-doped (Ba,K)Fe2As2 single crystal up to 9 T. A vortex phase diagram is presented, based on the evolution of Tg and Hc2 with magnetic field.
We analyze the recent vortex core spectroscopy experiments in cuprate superconductor and discuss what can be learned from them about the nature of the ground state in these compounds. We argue that the data are inconsistent with the assumption of a simple metallic ground state and exhibit characteristics of a doped Mott insulator. A theory for a vortex core in such a doped Mott insulator is developed based on the U(1) gauge field slave boson model and is shown to exhibit properties qualitatively consistent with the experimental data.
By using Nuclear Magnetic Resonance and ac-susceptibility, the characteristic correlation times for the vortex dynamics, in an iron-based superconductor, have been derived. Upon cooling, the vortex dynamics displays a crossover consistent with a vortex glass transition. The correlation times, in the fast motions regime, merge onto a universal curve which is fit by the Vogel-Fulcher law, rather than by an Arrhenius law. Moreover, the pinning barrier shows a weak dependence on the magnetic field which can be heuristically justified within a fragile glass scenario. In addition, the glass freezing…
Superlattice of spin vortices has been proposed in an earlier article as an alternative to the stripe interpretation of spin modulations in 1/8-doped lanthanum cuprates. The present article addresses several additional characteristics of the spin vortex lattice, namely: (i) the nature of extended charge states; (ii) the position of neutron spin peaks as a function of doping; and (iii) the absence of higher order spin harmonics. All these characteristics afford straightforward connection to the experimental results produced by angle-resolved photoemission spectroscopy, resistivity measurements,…
Superconductivity in layered copper-oxide compounds emerges when charge carriers are added to antiferromagnetically-ordered CuO2 layers. The carriers destroy the antiferromagnetic order, but strong spin fluctuations persist throughout the superconducting phase and are intimately linked to super-conductivity. Neutron scattering measurements of spin fluctuations in hole-doped copper oxides have revealed an unusual `hour-glass' feature in the momentum-resolved magnetic spectrum, present in a wide range of superconducting and non-superconducting materials. There is no widely-accepted explanation f…
Nb/Cu superconducting superlattices have been fabricated by dc magnetron sputtering. This system shows a vortex glass transition with critical exponents similar to high temperatures superconductors exponents. The transition dymensionality is governed by the superconducting coupling regime. The vortex glass transition shows a pure two dimensional behavior in decoupled superlattices and a quasi-two dimensional behavior in the superlattice coupling regime.
In magnetic measurements on Bi$_2$Sr$_2$CaCu$_2$O$_{8+δ}$ (Bi-2212) single crystals, a general peak with a dynamical feature on both $S-H$ and $S-T$ curves was found with S the magnetic relaxation rate. At higher fields, the characteristic exponent $μ$ becomes negative, together with the positive curvature of $logE$ vs. $ logj$ and the scaling based on the 2D vortex glass theory or plastic creep theory, we conclude that the vortex motion above the second peak is plastic when $j\to 0$ and there is no vortex glass phase at finite temperatures in Bi-2212. The peak of S is then explained as the cr…
Second magnetization peak (SMP) in hole-doped cuprates and iron pnictide superconductors has been widely explored. However, similar feature in the family of electron-doped cuprates is not common. Here, we report the vortex dynamics study in the single crystal of an electron-doped cuprate Pr$_{0.87}$LaCe$_{0.13}$CuO$_4$ superconductor using dc magnetization measurements. A SMP feature in the isothermal $M(H)$ was observed for $H$$\parallel$$ab$-planes. On the other hand, no such feature was observed for $H$$\parallel$$c$-axis in the crystal. Using magnetic relaxation data, a detailed analysis o…
Using scanning tunnelling microscopy at 400mK, we have obtained maps of around 100 vortices in SnMo6S8 from 2 - 9T. The orientational and positional disorder at 5 and 9T show that these are the first large-scale images of a vortex glass. At higher temperature a magnetisation peak effect is observed, whose upper boundary coincides with a lambda anomaly in the specific heat. Our data favour a kinetic glass description of the vortex melting transition, indicating that vortex topological disorder persists at fields and temperatures far below the peak effect in low-Tc superconductors.
The stability and the critical properties of the three-dimensional vortex-glass order in random type-II superconductors with point disorder is investigated in the unscreened limit based on a lattice {\it XY} model with a uniform field. By performing equilibrium Monte Carlo simulations for the system with periodic boundary conditions, the existence of a stable vortex-glass order is established in the unscreened limit. Estimated critical exponents are compared with those of the gauge-glass model.
The stability of the three-dimensional vortex-glass order in random type-II superconductors with point disorder is investigated by equilibrium Monte Carlo simulations based on a lattice XY model with a uniform field threading the system. It is found that the vortex-glass order, which stably exists in the absence of screening, is destroyed by the screenng effect, corroborating the previous finding based on the spatially isotropic gauge-glass model. Estimated critical exponents, however, deviate considerably from the values reported for the gauge-glass model.
Current-voltage $I-V$ curves have been carefully measured for YBa$_2$Cu$_3$O$_{7-δ}$ thin films by following different thermal or field annealing procedures. Although all data can be described quite well by the vortex-glass theory, it is found that the dissipation in a small region just above the vortex-glass transition is history dependent: the dissipation in the warming up or field-increasing process is larger than that in the cooling down or field-decreasing process. We attribute this history dependent dissipation to possible existence of a slush vortex phase.
We overview several recent experimental and numerical observations, which are at odds with the Vortex Glass theory of the freezing of disordered vortex matter. To reinvestigate the issue, we performed numerical simulations of the overdamped London - Langevin model, and use finite size scaling to analyze the data. Upon approaching the transition the initial Vortex Glass type criticality is arrested at some crossover temperature. Below this temperature the timescales continue growing very quickly, consistent with the Vogel-Fulcher form, while the spatial correlation length xi stops exhibiting an…
The glass-like vortex distribution in pulsed laser deposited YBCO thin films is observed by scanning superconducting quantum interference device microscopy and analysed for ordering after cooling in magnetic fields significantly smaller than the Earth's field. Autocorrelation calculations on this distribution show a weak short-range positional order, while Delaunay triangulation shows a near-complete lack of orientational order. The distribution of these vortices is finally characterised as an isotropic vortex glass. Abnormally closely spaced groups of vortices, which are statistically unlikel…
The vortex liquid-to-glass transition has been studied in Ba0.72K0.28Fe2As2, Ba0.9Co0.1Fe2As2, and Ba(Fe0.45Ni0.05)2As2 single crystal with superconducting transition temperature, Tc = 31.7, 17.3, and 18 K, respectively, by magnetoresistance measurements. For temperatures below Tc, the resistivity curves were measured in magnetic fields within the range of 0 \leq B \leq 13 T, and the pinning potential was scaled according to a modified model for vortex liquid resistivity. Good scaling of the resistivity ρ(B, T) and the effective pinning energy U0(B,T) was obtained with the critical exponents s…
The order of the vortex state in La_{1.9} Sr_{0.1} CuO_{4} is probed using muon spin rotation and small-angle neutron scattering. A transition from a Bragg glass to a vortex glass is observed, where the latter is composed of disordered vortex lines. In the vicinity of the transition the microscopic behavior reflects a delicate interplay of thermally-induced and pinning-induced disorder.
Three different vortex glass models are studied by examining the energy barrier against vortex motion across the system. In the two-dimensional gauge glass this energy barrier is found to increase logarithmically with system size which is interpreted as evidence for a low-temperature phase with zero resistivity. Associated with the large energy barriers is a breaking of ergodicity which explains why the well established results from equilibrium studies could fail. The behavior of the more realistic random pinning model is however different with decreasing energy barriers a no finite critical t…
An epitaxial NdFeAs(O,F) thin film of 90 nm thickness grown by molecular beam epitaxy on MgO single crystal with Tc = 44.2 K has been investigated regarding a possible vortex glass-liquid tran-sition. The voltage-current characteristics show excellent scalability according to the vortex-glass model with a static critical exponent ν of around 1.35 and a temperature-dependent dynamic exponent z increasing from 7.8 to 9.0 for the investigated temperature range. The large and non-constant z values are discussed in the frame of 3D vortex glass, thermally activated flux motion, and inhomogeneity bro…
The criteria for the existence of a glass transition in a planar vortex array with quenched disorder are studied. Applying a replica Bethe ansatz, we obtain for self-avoiding vortices the exact quenched average free energy and effective stiffness which is found to be in excellent agreement with recent numerical results for the related random bond dimer model [1]. Including a repulsive vortex interaction and a finite vortex persistence length ξ, we find that for ξ\to 0 the system is at {\em all} temperatures in a glassy phase; a glass transition exists only for finite ξ. Our results indicate th…
Phase transition between the vortex glass and the Bragg glass phases in high-$T_{\rm c}$ superconductors in $\vec{B}\parallel\vec{c}$ is studied by Monte Carlo simulations in the presence of point pins. A finite latent heat and a $δ$-function peak of the specific heat are observed, which clearly indicates that this is a thermodynamic first-order phase transition. Values of the entropy jump and the Lindemann number are consistent with those of melting transitions. A large jump of the inter-layer phase difference is consistent with the recent Josephson plasma resonance experiment of Bi$_{2}$Sr$_…
We present simulations of the transport properties of superconductors at the transition from the Bragg glass (BG) to the vortex glass (VG) phase. We study the frustrated anisotropic 3D XY model with point disorder, which has been shown to have a first order transition as a function of the intensity of disorder. We add an external current to the model and we obtain current-voltage curves as a function of disorder at a low temperature. We find that the in-plane critical current has a steep increase at the BG-VG transition, while the c-axis critical current has a discontinous jump down, this late…
In a recent letter Klein et al. [Nature 413, 404 (2001); cond-mat/0110018] provide experimental evidence for the existence of the Bragg glass phase in impure type II superconductors. Here we show that a more complete consideration of recent theoretical findings allows an even better interpretation of the experimental data.
We report on study of the vortex liquid in Pb-doped Bi-2223 single crystal using the in-plane resistivity measurements as a function of temperature and magnetic field up to 6T applied perpendicular to CuO planes. Below Tc at the upper part of superconducting transition we found Arrhenius-like resistivity behavior. With further temperature decrease close to resistivity onset resistivity shows power law dependence on temperature signaling approaching vortex-glass transition. The critical exponents nu(z-1)=4.6 plus-minus 0.5 are found to be field independent within experimental errors. We also pr…
We present the first scanning tunneling spectroscopy study of single-crystalline boron doped diamond. The measurements were performed below 100 mK with a low temperature scanning tunneling microscope. The tunneling density of states displays a clear superconducting gap. The temperature evolution of the order parameter follows the weak coupling BCS law with $Δ(0)/k_B T_c \simeq 1.74$. Vortex imaging at low magnetic field also reveals localized states inside the vortex core that are unexpected for such a dirty superconductor.
We present a general framework for describing the quantum phases obtained by doping paramagnetic Mott insulators on the square lattice. The undoped insulators are efficiently characterized by the projective transformations of various fields under the square lattice space group (the PSG). We show that the PSG also imposes powerful constraints on the doped system, and on the effective action for the vortex and Bogoliubov quasiparticle excitations of superconducting states. This action can also be extended across transitions to supersolid or insulating states at nonzero doping. For the case of a …
Phase diagram of vortex states of high-$T_{\rm c}$ superconductors with {\it sparse and weak} columnar defects is obtained by large-scale Monte Carlo simulations of the three-dimensional anisotropic, frustrated XY model. The Bragg-Bose glass phase characterized by hexagonal Bragg spots and the diverging tilt modulus is observed numerically for the first time at low density of columnar defects. As the density of defects increases, the melting temperature increases owing to "selected pinning" of flux lines. When the density of defects further increases, the transition to the Bose glass phase occ…
We study the relaxation dynamics of flux lines in dirty high-temperature superconductors using numerical simulations of a London-Langevin model of the interacting vortex lines. By analysing the equilibrium dynamics in the vortex liquid phase we find a dynamic crossover to a glassy non-equilibrium regime. We then focus on the out-of-equilibrium dynamics of the vortex glass phase using tools that are common in the study of other glassy systems. By monitoring the two-times roughness and dynamic wandering we identify and characterize finite-size effects that are similar, though more complex, than …
Small-angle neutron scattering on high quality single crystalline Ba$_{1-x}$K$_{x}$Fe$_{2}$As$_{2}$ reveals the transition from a low--field vortex solid phase with orientational order to a vortex polycrystal at high magnetic field. The vortex order-disorder transition is correlated with the second-peak feature in isothermal hysteresis loops, and is interpreted in terms of the generation of supplementary vortex solid dislocations. The sharp drop of the structure factor above the second peak field is explained by the dynamics of freezing of the vortex ensemble in the high field phase.
Based on a phenomenological model with competing spin-density-wave (SDW) and extended $s-$wave superconductivity, the vortex states in Ba$_{1-x}$K$_{x}$Fe$_{2}$As$_{2}$ are investigated by solving Bogoliubov-de Gennes equations. Our result for the optimally doped compound without induced SDW is in qualitative agreement with recent scanning tunneling microscopy experiment. We also propose that the main effect of the SDW on the vortex states is to reduce the intensity of the in-gap peak in the local density of states and transfer the spectral weight to form additional peaks outside the gap.
We report the first detailed and quantitative study of the Josephson coupling energy in the vortex liquid, Bragg glass and vortex glass phases of Bi_2Sr_2CaCu_2O_{8+δ} by the Josephson plasma resonance. The measurements revealed distinct features in the T- and H-dependencies of the plasma frequency $ω_{pl}$ for each of these three vortex phases. When going across either the Bragg-to-vortex glass or the Bragg-to-liquid transition line, $ω_{pl}$ shows a dramatic change. We provide a quantitative discussion on the properties of these phase transitions, including the first order nature of the Brag…
A review is given on the theory of vortex-glass phases in impure type-II superconductors in an external field. We begin with a brief discussion of the effects of thermal fluctuations on the spontaneously broken U(1) and translation symmetries, on the global phase diagram and on the critical behaviour. Introducing disorder we restrict ourselves to the experimentally most relevant case of weak uncorrelated randomness which is known to destroy the long-ranged translational order of the Abrikosov lattice in three dimensions. Elucidating possible residual glassy ordered phases, we distinguish betwe…
Order-disorder transitions between glassy phases are quite common in nature and yet a comprehensive survey of the microscopic structural changes remains elusive since the scale of the constituents is tiny and in most cases few of them take part in the transformation. Vortex matter in type-II superconductors is a model system where some of the experimental challenges inherent to this general question can be tackled by adequately choosing the host superconducting sample. For instance, Bi$_{2}$Sr$_{2}$CaCu$_{2}$O$_{8 + δ}$ is a type-II superconductor with weak point disorder that presents a trans…
Linear resistances and $IV$-characteristics have been measured over a wide range in the parameter space of the mixed phase of multilayered a-TaGe/Ge films. Three films with varying interlayer coupling and correlated defects oriented at an angle $\approx 25$ from the film normal were investigated. Experimental data were analyzed within vortex glass models and a second order phase transition from a resistive vortex liquid to a pinned glass phase. Various vortex phases including changes from three to two dimensional behavior depending on anisotropy have been identified. Careful analysis of $IV$-c…
Of the many different kinds of glassy states found in nature, spin glasses and structural glasses (e.g. normal window glass) have probably received the most attention. One of the central questions concerning the glassy state is whether the "glass" is a distinct thermodynamic phase from the "liquid" phase. It is believed that this may actually be the case for spin glasses, whereas the glass transition in structural glasses appears to be mostly kinetic in nature. Supercooled structural liquids, however, exhibit a wide range of behaviors, which can be classified using the "strong-fragile" scheme …
Patterned irradiation of cuprate superconductors with columnar defects allows a new generation of experiments which can probe the properties of vortex liquids by confining them to controlled geometries. Here we show that an analysis of such experiments that combines an inhomogeneous Bose glass scaling theory with the hydrodynamic description of viscous flow of vortex liquids can be used to infer the critical behavior near the Bose glass transition. The shear viscosity is predicted to diverge as $|T-T_{BG}|^{-z}$ at the Bose glass transition, with $z\simeq 6$ the dynamical critical exponent.
We report here on the first direct observations of the vortex lattice in the bulk of electron-doped Nd$_{1.85}$Ce$_{0.15}$CuO$_{4}$ single crystals. Using small angle neutron scattering, we have observed a square vortex lattice with the nearest-neighbors oriented at 45$^{\circ}$ from the Cu-O bond direction, which is consistent with theories based on the d-wave superconducting gap. However, the square symmetry persists down to unusually low magnetic fields. Moreover, the diffracted intensity from the vortex lattice is found to decrease rapidly with increasing magnetic field.
The Vortex Glass phase has been unequivocally identified by analyzing the non linear magnetic response of type II superconductors. The method here introduced, more effective than the study of direct transport measurements, is based on a combined frequency dependence analysis of the real and imaginary part of the 1st and 3rd harmonics of the AC magnetic susceptibility. The analysis has been performed by taking into account both the components and the Cole-Cole plots (i.e. the imaginary part as a function of the real part). Numerical simulations have been used to individuate the fingerprints of …
We analysed the flux-flow region of isofield magneto resistivity data obtained on three crystals of BaFe$_{2-x}$Ni$_x$As$_2$ with $T_c$$\sim$20 K for three different geometries relative to the angle formed between the applied magnetic field and the c-axis of the crystals. The field dependent activation energy, $U_0$, was obtained from the TAFF and modified vortex-glass models, which were compared with the values of $U_0$ obtained from flux-creep available in the literature. We observed that the $U_0$ obtained from the TAFF model show deviations among the different crystals, while the correspon…
We present resistivity data on a high-quality La$_{2-x}$Sr$_{x}$CuO$_{4-δ}$ film measured in a magnetic field of 1 T applied at an angle $δ$ to the c axis. Using these data, the influence of the orientation of the magnetic field and the effective mass anisotropy on the vortex-glass transition can be studied. The variation of $δ$ for a fixed magnitude of the magnetic field allows us to investigate the critical properties of interest, including the 2D-to-3D crossover and the 3D vortex glass-to-fluid transition, as the temperature is decreased. The data are well described by the scaling theory fo…
We study the vortex glass transition in disordered high temperature superconductors using Monte Carlo simulations. We use a random pinning model with strong point-correlated quenched disorder, a net applied magnetic field, longrange vortex interactions, and periodic boundary conditions. From a finite size scaling study of the helicity modulus, the RMS current, and the resistivity, we obtain critical exponents at the phase transition. The new exponents differ substantially from those of the gauge glass model, but are consistent with those of the pure three-dimensional XY model.
We report evidence for a reentrant spin glass phase in electron-doped $\text{EuFe}_2\text{As}_2$ single crystals and first traces of the superconductivity re-entrance in optics. In the close-to-optimal doped $\text{Eu}(\text{Fe}_{0.91}\text{Ir}_{0.09})_2\text{As}_2$ and $\text{Eu}(\text{Fe}_{0.93}\text{Rh}_{0.07})_2\text{As}_2$ samples two magnetic transitions are observed below the superconducting critical temperature $T_c \approx 21$~K: the canted $A$-type antiferromagnetic order of the $\text{Eu}^{2+}$ ions sets in around $17\,\text{K}$; the spin glass behavior occurs another $2\,\text{K}$ …
We introduce a model describing vortices in strongly disordered three-dimensional superconductors. The model focuses on the topological defects, i.e., dislocation lines, in an elastic description of the vortex lattice. The model is studied using Monte Carlo simulations, revealing a glass phase at low temperatures, separated by a continuous phase transition to the high temperature resistive vortex liquid phase. The critical exponents nu ~ 1.3 and eta ~ -0.4 characterizing the transition are obtained from finite size scaling.
In a superconducting topological insulator, superconducting vortex line may trap 1-dimensional topological band with Majorana zero modes (MZMs) localized at its ends. In this work, we study the effect of hexagonal warping to the vortex phase transition. We carry out both analytical calculations based on a semiclassical formula and numerical calculations based on full quantum mechanics of Bogliubov de Gennes equation. We find that the hexagonal warping term enlarges the topological region of the vortex line as the chemical potential changes, and leads to the MZMs even in the absence of topologi…
We study numerically the interplay of phase coherence and vortex-glass state in two-dimensional Josephson-junction arrays with average rational values of flux quantum per plaquette $f$ and random dilution of junctions. For $f=1/2$, we find evidence of a phase coherence threshold value $x_s$, below the percolation concentration of diluted junctions $x_p$, where the superconducting transition vanishes. For $x_s < x < x_p$ the array behaves as a zero-temperature vortex glass with nonzero linear resistance at finite temperatures. The zero-temperature critical currents are insensitive to variations…
Relaxation in magnetisation of metastable states is reported. The states are prepared by supercooling a Ce(Ru, 5% Nd)2 alloy sample to different extents through similar paths in the H-T space, and then by applying a field jerk of 20 Oe of either sign. Based on standard theory, a possible explanation is put forward.
A method is presented to solve the Bogoliubov-de Gennes equations with arbitrary distributions of vortices. The real-space Green's function approach based on Chebyshev polynomials is complemented by a gauge transformation which allows one to treat finite as well as infinite, ordered as well as disordered vortex configurations. This tool gives unprecedented access to vortex lattices at very low magnetic fields and glassy phases. After describing in detail the method and its implementation, we use it to address a series of problems related to $d$-wave superconductivity on the square lattice. We …
In this article, we present evidence for the existence of vortex-solid/glass (VG) to vortex-fluid (VF) transition in a type-II superconductor (SC), NbN. We probed the VG to VF transition in both 2D and 3D films of NbN through studies of magnetoresistance and current-voltage characteristics. The dynamical exponents corresponding to this phase transition were extracted independently from the two sets of measurements. The $H$-$T$ phase diagram for the 2D and 3D SC are found to be significantly different near the critical point. In the case of 3D SC, the exponent values obtained from the two indep…
The magnetic properties of a quasi two-dimensional superconductor, Sn-metal graphite (MG), are studied using DC and AC magnetic susceptibility. Sn-MG has a unique layered structure where Sn metal layer is sandwiched between adjacent graphene sheets. This compound undergoes a superconducting transition at $T_{c}$ = 3.75 K at $H$ = 0. The $H$-$T$ diagram of Sn-MG is similar to that of a quasi two-dimensional superconductors. The phase boundaries of vortex liquid, vortex glass, and vortex lattice phase merge into a multicritical point located at $T^{*}$ = 3.4 K and $H^{*}$ = 40 Oe. There are two …
We compared the AC magnetic susceptibility behaviour for the vortex glass phase and for the creep phenomena with an inhomogeneous pinning potential. The temperature dependence of the harmonics of the susceptibility have been numerically simulated with these two models, and we studied them as a function of the frequency, in terms of Cole-Cole plots. From our analysis we show that it is possible to distinguish between the two different phases, because of their clear differences in the Cole-Cole plots behaviour with the frequency.
We explore the flux front patterns during virgin penetration and after remagnetization in the iron-based superconductor Ba(Fe_{1-x}Co_{x})_{2}As_{2}. After remagnetization we observe an instability characterized by turbulent dynamics at the vortex-antivortex boundary. Associated with the turbulent flux boundary a band of excess current density is observed. The turbulence is contrasted with the instability observed in the cuprate superconductors. Our results suggest turbulent instability at the vortex-antivortex interface may be a common feature in all remagnetized type-II superconductors.
Using Ginzburg-Landau approach we show that the strain of the nematic superconductor can generate a specific (nematic) vorticity. In the case of doped topological insulators that vorticity forms a spin vortex. We find two types of topologically different spin vortices that either enhance (type I) or suppress (type II) superconductivity far from the vortex core. We apply Bogoliubov-de Geunnes equations to study electronic states in the nematic superconductor with spin vortices. We find that in the case of the vortex of type I, zero-energy states are localized near the vortex core. These states …
The effects of random dilution of junctions on a two-dimensional Josephson-junction array in a magnetic field are considered. For rational values of the average flux quantum per plaquette $f$, the superconducting transition temperature vanishes, for increasing dilution, at a critical value $x_S(f)$, while the vortex ordering remains stable up to $x_{VL}>x_S$, much below the value $x_p$ corresponding to the geometric percolation threshold. For $ x_{VL}<x<x_p$, the array behaves as a zero-temperature vortex-glass. Numerical results for $f=1/2$ from defect energy calculations are presented which …
A description of a dislocation-free elastic glass phase in terms of domain walls is developed and used as the basis of a renormalization group analysis of the energetics of dislocation loops added to the system. It is found that even after optimizing over possible paths of large dislocation loops, their energy is still very likely to be positive when the dislocation core energy is large. This implies the existence of an equilibrium elastic glass phase in three dimensional random field X-Y magnets, and a dislocation free, bond-orientationally ordered ``Bragg glass'' phase of vortices in dirty T…
In view of the question about the vortex glass theory of the freezing of disordered vortex matter raised by recent experimental observations we reinvestigate the critical scaling of high $T_c$ superconductors. We find that dc current-voltage characteristic of mixed state superconductors has the general form of extended power law which is based on the Ginzburg-Landau (GL) functional in the similar way as the vortex glass theory. Isotherms simulated from this nonlinear equation fit the experimental I-V data of Strachan et al.[Phys.Rev.Lett. 87, 067007 (2001)]. The puzzling question of the deriva…
We present a Monte Carlo study of the d=3 gauge glass and the XY--spin glass models in the vortex representation. We investigate the critical behavior of these models by a scaling analysis of the linear resistivity and current-- voltage characteristics, both in the limits of zero and strong screening of the vortex-interactions. Without screening, both models show a glass transition at a finite temperature and, within the numerical accuracy, exhibit the same critical exponents: z approx 3.1 and nu=1.3 +- 0.3. With strong screening, the finite temperature glass transition is destroyed in both ca…
We consider the disordered quantum rotor model in the presence of a magnetic field. We analyze the transport properties in the vicinity of the multicritical point between the superconductor, phase glass and paramagnetic phases. We find that the magnetic field leaves metallic transport of bosons in the glassy phase in tact. In the vicinity of the vicinity of the superconductivity-to-Bose metal transition, the resistitivy turns on as $(H-H_c)^{2}$ with $H_c$. This functional form is in excellent agreement with the experimentally observed turn-on of the resistivity in the metallic state in MoGe, …
We present here some striking discrepancies in the results of ac and dc magnetization measurements performed in a single crystal of low Tc superconductor, Yb3Rh4Sn13. Fingerprint of a transition from an ordered vortex lattice a la Bragg glass (BG) phase to a partially-disordered vortex glass (VG) like phase gets unearthed under the influence of an ac driving force present inevitably in the isothermal ac susceptibility measurements. In contrast to its well-known effect of improving the state of spatial order in the vortex matter, the ac drive is surprisingly found to promote disorder by assisti…
Systematic measurements of the magnetic susceptibility were performed on single crystals of lightly doped La2-xSrxCuO4 (x=0.03, 0.04 and 0.05). For all samples the temperature dependence of the in-plane magnetic susceptibility shows typical spin-glass features with spin-glass transition temperatures Tg of 6.3K, 5.5K and 5.0K for x=0.03, 0.04 and 0.05, respectively. The canonical spin-glass order parameter extracted from the in-plane susceptibility of all the samples follows a universal scaling curve. On the other hand, the out-of-plane magnetic susceptibility deviates from Curie law below a te…
The paper contains a rigorous proof of the absence of quasi-long-range order in the random-field O(N) model for strong disorder in the space of an arbitrary dimensionality. This result implies that quasi-long-range order inherent to the Bragg glass phase of the vortex system in disordered superconductors is absent as the disorder or external magnetic field is strong.
We present Co substitution effects in K$_{x}$Fe$_{2-y-z}$Co$_{z}$Se$_{2}$ (0.06 $\leq$ $z$ $\leq$ 1.73) single crystal alloys. By 3.5\% of Co doping superconductivity is suppressed whereas phase separation of semiconducting K$_{2}$Fe$_{4}$Se$_{5}$ and superconducting/metallic K$_{x}$Fe$_{2}$Se$_{2}$ is still present. We show that the arrangement and distribution of superconducting phase (stripe phase) is connected with the arrangement of K, Fe and Co atoms. Semiconducting spin glass is found in proximity to superconducting state, persisting for large Co concentrations. At high Co concentration…
