We propose some channels for the possible observation of anomalous interactions of the fourth standard model generation quarks at the Large Hadron Collider based ep and gamma-p colliders. Namely, u_4 (d_4) -> q gamma and u_4 (d_4) -> q Z -> q l^+ l^- decay processes are considered. Signatures for signals and corresponding standard model backgrounds are investigated at both colliders comperatively. The lowest necessary luminosities to observe these processes and the achievable values of the anomalous coupling strengths are determined. It is shown that the gamma-p collider is advantageous compare to the ep collider.
The potential of $μ^{+}μ^{-}$ colliders to investigate the fourth SM family fermions predicted by flavour democracy has been analyzed. It is shown that muon colliders are advantageous for both pair production of fourth family fermions and resonance production of fourth family quarkonia. Also isosinglet quarks production at $μ^{+}μ^{-}$ colliders has been investigated.
Possible single productions of the fourth standard model family charged leptons via anomalous interactions at the future ep colliders are studied. Signatures of such anomalous processes and backgrounds are discussed in detail.
Possible single productions of the fourth standard model generation neutrino via anomalous interactions at the future ep colliders are studied. Signatures of such anomalous processes and backgrounds are discussed in detail. Discovery limits for neutrino mass and achievable values of anomalous coupling strength are determined.
We examined the single production of fourth family b' quarks at the Large Hadron electron Collider (LHeC).We have analyzed the background and the signal processes for the mass range 300-800 GeV. We find the discovery region for an optimal parametrization of the Vqb' matrix elements.
We investigate the production of fourth family up-type quarks using effective lagrangian approach at future lepton-hadron colliders and study the kinematical characteristics of the signal with an optimal set of cuts. We obtain the upper mass limits 500 GeV at THERA and one TeV at Linac $\otimes$ LHC.
We study the pair production of $\tilde{l}_{4}$, which is the supersymmetric partner of the fourth family charged lepton, at the $e^{+}e^{-}$ colliders. It is shown that the investigation of this process at ILC/CLIC will give opportunity to differentiate the MSSM with three and four families.
We investigate the production of fourth generation neutrino in the context of new $e ν_4 W$ magnetic dipole moment type interaction in $ep$ collisions at the future lepton-hadron colliders. We have obtained the mass limits of 700 GeV for THERA ($\sqrt S$=1 TeV) and 2.8 TeV for LC$\otimes$ LHC ($\sqrt S$=3.74 TeV).
The pseudoscalar quarkonium state, eta_4 1^S_0, formed by the Standard Model (SM) fourth generation quarks, is the best candidate among the fourth generation quarkonia to be produced at the LHC and VLHC. The production of this J^{PC} = 0^{-+} resonance is discussed and the background processes are studied to obtain the integrated luminosity limits for the discovery, depending on its mass.
Single resonant productions of the fourth standard model generation charged lepton via anomalous interactions at gamma e colliders based on future linear e^+ e^- colliders with 500 GeV and 1 TeV center of mass energies are studied. Signatures of $γe\to \ell_4\to eγ$ and $γe\to \ell_4\to eZ$ anomalous processes followed by the hadronic and leptonic decay of the Z boson and corresponding standard model backgrounds are discussed in details. The lowest necessary luminosities to observe these processes and the achievable values of the anomalous coupling strengths are determined.
We investigate the forward-backward asymmetries in the pair production of fourth family fermions through the new Z' interactions in the e+e- collisions. The Z' boson having family universal couplings can contribute to the pair production of fourth family fermions via the s-channel exchange. The linear colliders will provide a clean environment for the physics of Z' boson to measure its couplings precisely. The effects of the Z' boson to the asymmetries are shown to be important in some parameter regions for different Z' models. Among these parameters, the invariant mass distribution m_FFbar wi…
The single production of fourth family sneutrino $\tildeν_{4}$ via R-parity violating interactions in electron-positron collisions has been investigated. We study the decays of $\tildeν_{4}$ into different flavor dilepton $e^{\pm}μ^{\mp}$ via R-parity violation. It is shown that R-parity violating couplings $(λ_{411},λ_{412})$ down to 0.001 will be reachable at future linear colliders which would provide better accuracy comparing to the indirect measurements as complementary to the LHC results.
It is known that Flavor Democracy favors the existence of the fourth standard model (SM) family. In order to give nonzero masses for the first three family fermions Flavor Democracy has to be slightly broken. A parametrization for democracy breaking, which gives the correct values for fundamental fermion masses and, at the same time, predicts quark and lepton CKM matrices in a good agreement with the experimental data, is proposed. The pair productions of the fourth SM family Dirac $(ν_{4})$ and Majorana $(N_{1})$ neutrinos at future linear colliders with $\sqrt{s}=500$ GeV, 1 TeV and 3 TeV ar…
We present updated NLO predictions for the electroweak t-channel production of heavy quarks at the Tevatron and at the LHC. We consider production of single top and fourth generation t' starting from both 2 to 2 and 2 to 3 Born processes. Predictions for tb' and t'b' cross sections at NLO are also given for the first time. A thorough study of the theoretical uncertainties coming from parton distribution functions, renormalisation and factorisation scale dependence and heavy quark masses is performed.
We study the pair production of fourth generation neutrinos from the decay of an on-shell Higgs produced by gluon fusion. In a fourth generation scenario, the Higgs branching fraction into fourth generation neutrinos may be quite large. In the case that the unstable heavy neutrinos are a mixed Majorana and Dirac state, neutrinos pair-produced from Higgs decay will yield a substantial number of like-sign dilepton events. In this article we use inclusive like-sign dilepton searches from hadron colliders to constrain the theoretical parameter space of fourth generation leptons.
We study the production and decay of fourth generation leptons at the Large Hadron Collider (LHC).We find that for charged leptons with masses under a few hundred GeV, the dominant collider signal comes from the production through a W-boson of a charged and neutral fourth generation lepton. We present a sensitivity study for this process in events with two like-sign charged leptons and at least two associated jets. We show that with sqrts = 7 TeV and 1 inverse fb of data, the LHC can exclude fourth generation charged leptons with masses up to 250 GeV.
If next generations of heavy quarks and leptons exist within the standard model (SM), they can manifest themselves in Higgs boson production at the Tevatron and the LHC, before being actually observed. This generation leads to an increase of the Higgs boson production cross section via gluon fusion at hadron colliders by a factor 6-9. So, the study of this process at the Tevatron and LHC can finally fix the number of generations in the SM. Using the $WW^*$ Higgs boson decay channel, the studies at the upgraded Tevatron will answer the question about the next generation for mass values 135 GeV …
The properties of new heavy mesons containing new heavy quarks have been investigated. As an example, the fourth SM family quarks and weak isosinglet quarks predicted by E_{6} GUT are considered. Production of these hadrons at TeV energy lepton colliders have been analyzed.
Existence of the fourth family follows from the basics of the Standard Model and the actual mass spectrum of the third family fermions. We discuss possible manifestations of the fourth SM family at existing and future colliders. The LHC and Tevatron potentials to discover the fourth SM family have been compared. The scenario with dominance of the anomalous decay modes of the fourth family quarks has been considered in details.
We study the single production of fourth-family $t'$ quarks via the process $ep\to t'ν$ at Large Hadron electron Collider (LHeC). We calculate the background and signal cross sections for the mass range 300-800 GeV. It is shown that the LHeC can discover single $t'$ quark up to the mass of 800 GeV for the optimized mixing parameters.
We investigate the possibility of a fourth sequential generation in the lepton sector. Assuming neutrinos to be Majorana particles and starting from a recent - albeit weak - evidence for a non-zero admixture of a fourth generation neutrino from fits to weak lepton and meson decays we discuss constraints from neutrinoless double beta decay, radiative lepton decay and like-sign di-lepton production at hadron colliders.
The resonant production of the fourth family slepton ~l_4 via R-parity violating interactions of supersymmetry at the Large Hadron Collider has been investigated. We study the decay mode of ~l_4 into the fourth family neutrino nu_4 and W boson. The signal will be a like-sign dimuon and dijet if the fourth family neutrino has Majorana nature. We discuss the constraints on the R-parity violating couplings lambda and lambda' of the fourth family charged slepton at the LHC with the center of mass energies of 7, 10 and 14 TeV.
We study the single production of the fourth family quarks through the process pp--> Q'jX at the Large Hadron Collider (LHC). We have calculated the decay widths and branching ratios of the fourth family quarks (b' and t') in the mass range 300-800 GeV. The cross sections of signal and background processes have been calculated in a Monte Carlo framework. It is shown that the LHC can discover single t' and b' quarks if the CKM matrix elements |V_{t'q}|,|V_{qb'}|>=0.01.
We present a detailed study of the anomalous single fourth generation $t'$ quark production within the dominant Standard Model(SM) decay modes at future $e^+e^-$ colliders. We calculate the signal and background cross sections in the mass range 300-800 GeV. We also discuss the limits of $t'qγ$ and $t'qZ$ ($q=u,c$) anomalous couplings as well as values of attainable integrated luminosity for 3$σ$ observation limit.
Possible anomalous single productions of the fourth standard model generation up and down type quarks at CERN Large Hadron Collider are studied. Namely, $p p \to u_4 (d_4) X$ with subsequent $u_4\to bW^{+}$ process followed by leptonic decay of $W$ boson and $d_4\to bγ$ (and its h.c.) decay channel are considered. Signatures of these processes and corresponding standard model backgrounds are discussed in detail. Discovery limits for quark mass and achievable values of anomalous coupling strength are determined.
We investigate the possibility of a fourth sequential generation in the lepton sector. Assuming neutrinos to be Majorana particles and starting from a recent - albeit weak - evidence for a non-zero admixture of a fourth generation neutrino from fits to weak lepton and meson decays we discuss constraints from neutrinoless double beta decay, radiative lepton decay and like-sign dilepton production at hadron colliders. Also an idea for fourth generation neutrino mass model building is briefly outlined. Here we soften the large hierarchy of the neutrino masses within an extradimensional model that…
We study the effects of a fourth generation t-prime quark in various extensions of the standard model. In the Randall-Sundrum model, the decay t-prime -> t Z has a large branching ratio that could be detected at the Large Hadron Collider (LHC). We also look at the two-Higgs doublet models I, II and III, and note that, in the latter, the branching ratio of t-prime -> t H, where H is a Higgs scalar or pseudoscalar, is huge and we discuss detection at the LHC.
We study the effects of a fourth generation t' quark in various extensions of the standard model. In the Randall-Sundrum model, the decay t'--> t Z has a large branching ratio that could be detected at the Large Hadron Collider (LHC). We also look at the two-Higgs doublet models I, II and III, and note that, in the latter, the branching ratio of t' --> t H, where H is a Higgs scalar or pseudoscalar, is huge and we discuss detection at the LHC. A few comments about the minimal supersymmetric standard model are also included.
Imagine to discover a new fourth family of leptons at the Large Hadron Collider (LHC) but no signs of an associated fourth family of quarks. What would that imply? An intriguing possibility is that the new fermions needed to compensate for the new leptons gauge anomalies simultaneously address the big hierarchy problem of the Standard Model. A natural way to accomplish such a scenario is to have the Higgs itself be composite of these new fermions. This is the setup we are going to investigate in this paper using as a template Minimal Walking Technicolor. We analyze a general heavy neutrino mas…
We investigate the impact of the fourth generation quarks on production and decays of the charged Higgs boson at CERN Large Hadron Collider (LHC) with triple $b$-tagging. The signal is the process $gg\to \bar{u_4}u_4$, followed by $\bar{u_4}\to W^{-} \bar{b}$ and $u_4\to h^{+} b$ decays with subsequent $h^{+}\to t \bar{b}$ and corresponding hermitic conjugates. It is shown that, if $m_{u_{4}}= 400$ GeV, considered process will provide unique opportunity to discover charged Higgs boson with mass range of 200 to 350 GeV at the first years of the LHC run.
For a model with a fourth family of quarks, new sources of flavor changing neutral currents are identified by confronting the unitary 4x4 quark mixing matrix with the experimental measured values of the familiar 3x3 quark mixing matrix. By imposing as experimental constraints the known bounds for the flavor changing neutral currents, the largest mixing of the known quarks with the fourth family ones is established. The predictions are: a value for |V_{tb}| significantly different from unity, large rates for rare top decays as t->cγand t->cZ, the last one reachable at the Large Hadrion Collider…
The existence of fourth family follows from the basics of the Standard Model. Because of the high masses of the fourth family quarks, their anomalous decays could be dominant, if certain criteria are met. This will drastically change the search strategy at hadron colliders. We show that the fourth SM family down quarks with masses up to 400-450 GeV can be observed (or excluded) via anomalous decays by Tevatron before the LHC.
We consider the phenomenology of the fourth generation heavy quarks which would be pair produced at the LHC. We show that if such a quark with a mass in the phenomenologically interesting range of 400 GeV--600 GeV decays to a light quark and a W-boson, it will produce a signal in a number of channels which can be seen above the background from the three generation Standard Model processes. In particular, such quarks could be seen in channels where multiple jets are present with large missing momentum and either a single hard lepton, an opposite sign hard lepton pair or a same sign lepton pair.…
We present new theoretical predictions for the t bar t production cross section at NNLO at the Tevatron and the LHC. We discuss the scale uncertainty and the errors due to the parton distribution functions (PDFs). For the LHC, we present a fit formula for the pair production cross section as a function of the center of mass energy and we provide predictions for the pair production cross section of a hypothetical heavy fourth generation quark t'.
Following a brief review of our contributions to the 2006 European PP Strategy, recent comments on several topics are presented. First of all, it is emphasized that only the simplest version of the fourth chiral generation, namely, minimal SM4 (mSM4) with only one Higgs doublet is in some tension with the recent LHC data on the Higgs boson search. This tension, which follows from the relative strengths of the H --> 4l and Higgs --> γγ channels, can be naturally resolved if there is a mechanism to enhance the H-->γγ width (although any charged and heavy particle could enhance the H-γ-γ loop, 2H…
We overview the constraints on the 4th-generation neutrino dark matter candidate and investigate a possible way to make it a viable dark matter candidate. Given the LEP constraints tell us that the 4th-generation neutrino has to be rather heavy (> M_Z/2), in sharp contrast to the other three neutrinos, the underlying nature of the 4th-generation neutrino is expected to be different. We suggest that an additional gauge symmetry B-4L_4 distinguishes it from the Standard Model's three lighter neutrinos and this also facilitates promotion of the 4th-generation predominantly right-handed neutrino t…
We study Higgs boson pair production processes at future hadron and lepton colliders including the photon collision option in several new physics models; i.e., the two-Higgs-doublet model, the scalar leptoquark model, the sequential fourth generation fermion model and the vector-like quark model. Cross sections for these processes can deviate significantly from the standard model predictions due to the one-loop correction to the triple Higgs boson coupling constant. For the one-loop induced processes such as $gg \to hh$ and $γγ\to hh$, where $h$ is the (lightest) Higgs boson and $g$ and $γ$ re…
Production of the Standard Model Higgs-boson at the Photon Collider at TESLA is studied for the Higgs-boson masses above 150 GeV. Simulation of signal and background processes takes into account realistic luminosity spectra and detector effects. In the considered mass range, large interference effects are expected in the W+W- decay channel. By reconstructing W+W- and ZZ final states, not only the h->gamma gamma partial width can be measured, but also the relative phase of the scattering amplitude. This opens a new window for the precise determination of the Higgs-boson couplings. Models with h…
Four models are considered which contain heavy leptons beyond the three families of the standard model. Two are fourth-generation extensions of the standard model in which the right-handed heavy leptons are either isosinglets or in an isodoublet; the other two are motivated by the aspon model of CP violation. In all these models, the heavy neutrino can either be heavier than, or comparable in mass to, the charged lepton leading to the possibility that the charged lepton is very long-lived. Production cross section and signatures for the heavy leptons are computed for the SSC and LHC.
We present experimental sensitivity for the production of a fourth-generation Majorana neutrino ($N$) via an s-channel $Z$ boson $Z\to NN \to W\ell W\ell$ at hadron colliders. This channel has not been studied for the Tevatron dataset with $\int \mathcal{L}=5 $ fb$^{-1}$, where we find that a single experiment could significantly extend current 95% C.L. mass lower limits, to $m_N>175$ GeV$/c^2$, or report $3σ$ evidence for the $N$ if $m_N<150$ GeV$/c^2$. With 5 fb$^{-1}$, a single LHC experiment at $\sqrt{s}=10$ TeV could expect t o set a 95% C.L. mass lower limits of $m_N>300$ GeV$/c^2$, or r…
We study quantum effects of exotic heavy leptons on the production of two vector bosons in e^+e^- annihilation. We present closed analytic expressions for vector-boson self-couplings and differential cross sections, within the framework of two favourable new-physics scenarios: (i) the fourth-generation Majorana-neutrino model and (ii) an E_6-inspired model with sequential mirror isodoublets. We constrain these models by requiring that their contributions to the oblique electroweak parameters be compatible with a recent global fit to high-precision data. We then systematically analyze the loop-…
A sequential fourth generation of quarks and leptons is allowed by precision electroweak constraints if the mass splitting between the heavy quarks is between 50 and 80 GeV. Although heavy quarks can be easily detected at the LHC, it is very difficult to detect a sequential heavy charged lepton, L, due to large backgrounds. Should the L mass be above 250 GeV, it can not be pair-produced at a 500 GeV ILC. We calculate the cross section for the one-loop process e+e- -> L tau. Although the cross section is small, it may be detectable. We also consider contributions from the two Higgs doublet mode…
In this work we study the implication of the fourth generation standard model (SM4) to the single and double lepton polarization asymmetries in the $B\rightarrow K^{\ast}\ell^{+}\ell^{-}$, $(l=μ,τ)$ decay. To see the variation in the values of lepton polarization asymmetries from the standard model values, we have taken lower bound values of CMS and ATLAS for $m_{t^\prime}=404$GeV and 552GeV respectively whereas $ϕ_{sb}$ is vary in two allowed regions $75^\circ-115^\circ$ and $240^\circ-290^\circ$ while for the numerical values of these asymmetries $|λ_{t^\prime}|$ is set to be $6\times10^{-3}…
We investigate the effect of introducing a sequential generation of chiral fermions in the Higgs Triplet Model with nontrivial mixing between the doublet and triplet Higgs. We use the available LHC data for Higgs boson production and decay rates, the constraints on the fourth generation masses, and impose electroweak precision constraints from the S, T and U parameters. Our analysis shows that an SM-like Higgs boson state at ~125 GeV can be accommodated in the Higgs Triplet Model with four generations, and thus, that four generations survive collider and electroweak precision constraints in mo…
Based on the two Higgs doublet model, we study the effect of Higgs-boson exchange on the (super)heavy quarkonium \bar QQ, which induces a strong attractive force between a (super)heavy quark Q and an antiquark \bar Q. An interesting application is the decay of (super)heavy quarkonia \bar QQ into a Higgs boson associated with gauge bosons. The criterion for making the \bar QQ bound state is studied. We also show that non-perturbative effects due to gluonic field fluctuations are rather small in such a heavy quark sector. Possible enhancement for productions and decays of \bar QQ bound states ma…
This summary of the 3rd "Beyond the 3 Generation Standard Model" workshop presents the following four statements (and their implications) for the ongoing and future searches of a fourth generation: 1) The enhancement of the Higgs gluon-gluon production cross-section times branching fraction for many of the search channels studied at the Large Hadron Collider (LHC) is not a flat factor of 9; 2) Electroweak precision data allows for not only a fourth generation, even more generations are allowed; 3) Consideration of mixing significantly changes the conclusions about the interpretation of experim…
We explore the viability of baryogenesis from light scalar decays after the electroweak phase transition. A minimal model of this kind is constructed with new CP violating interactions involving a heavy fourth family. The departure from thermal equilbrium must come from topological defects like cosmic strings, and we show that almost any mechanism for producing the cosmic strings at the electroweak scale results in a viable theory. Baryogenesis occurs in the fourth generation but the baryon number is later transported to the visible generations. This mechanism of indirect baryogenesis allows u…
It has been shown that the data from the Large Hadron Collider (LHC) does not rule out a chiral sequential fourth generation of fermions that obtain their masses through an identical mechanism as the other three generations do. However, this is possible only if the scalar sector of the Standard Model is suitably enhanced, like embedding it in a type-II two-Higgs doublet model. In this article, we try to show that double Higgs production (DHP) can unveil the existence of such a hidden fourth generation in a very efficient way. While the DHP cross-section in the SM is quite small, it is signific…
We propose a simple extension of the standard model by adding a fourth generation vector-like lepton doublet and show that if the fourth neutrino is a massive pseudo-Dirac fermion with mass in the few hundred GeV range and mass splitting of about 100 keV, its lighter component can be a viable inelastic dark matter candidate. Its relic abundance is produced by the CP violating out-of-equilibrium decay of the type-II seesaw scalar triplet, which also gives rise to the required baryon asymmetry of the Universe via type-II leptogenesis, thus providing a simultaneous explanation of dark matter and …
We have investigated the resonant production of a stop at the Large Hadron Collider, driven by baryon number violating interactions in supersymmetry. We work in the framework of minimal supergravity models with the lightest neutralino being the lightest supersymmetric particle which decays within the detector. We look at various dilepton and trilepton final states, with or without b-tags. A detailed background simulation is performed, and all possible decay modes of the lighter stop are taken into account. We find that higher stop masses are sometimes easier to probe, through the decay of the …
We present a simple solution to the little hierarchy problem in the MSSM: a vector-like fourth generation. With O(1) Yukawa couplings for the new quarks, the Higgs mass can naturally be above 114 GeV. Unlike a chiral fourth generation, a vector-like generation can solve the little hierarchy problem while remaining consistent with precision electroweak and direct production constraints, and maintaining the success of the grand unified framework. The new quarks are predicted to lie between ~ 300 - 600 GeV and will thus be discovered or ruled out at the LHC. This scenario suggests exploration of …
We use sampling techniques to find robust constraints on the masses of a possible fourth sequential fermion generation from electroweak oblique variables. We find that in the case of a light (115 GeV) Higgs from a single electroweak symmetry breaking doublet, inverted mass hierarchies are possible for both quarks and leptons, but a mass splitting more than M(W) in the quark sector is unlikely. We also find constraints in the case of a heavy (600 GeV) Higgs in a single doublet model. As recent data from the Large Hadron Collider hints at the existence of a resonance at 124.5 GeV and a single Hi…
We revisit the stability and triviality bounds on the Higgs boson mass in the context of the Standard Model with three and four generations (SM3 and SM4, respectively). In light of the recent results from LHC the triviality bound in the SM3 has now become obsolete, and the stability bound implies for a Higgs mass of e.g. mH=115 GeV the onset of new physics before 650 TeV, whereas there are no limits for mH>133 GeV. For the SM4, the stability and triviality curves intersect and bound a finite region. As a consequence, the fourth generation fermions place stringent theoretical limits on the Higg…
We consider a model with four generations of standard model fermions propagating in an extra dimension with an AdS background metric. We show that if the zero modes of the fourth generation are highly localized towards the infrared brane, it is possible to break the electroweak symmetry via their condensation, partly driven by their interactions with the Kaluza-Klein excitations of the gauge bosons, as well as by the presence of bulk higher-dimensional operators. This dynamical mechanism results in a composite Higgs, which is highly localized and generally heavy. The localization of fermions i…
We study a warped extra-dimension scenario where the Standard Model fields lie in the bulk, with the addition of a fourth family of fermions. We concentrate on the flavor structure of the Higgs couplings with fermions in the flavor anarchy ansatz. Even without a fourth family, these couplings will be generically misaligned with respect to the SM fermion mass matrices. The presence of the fourth family typically enhances the misalignment effects and we show that one should expect them to be highly non-symmetrical in the ${(34)}$ inter-generational mixing. The radiative corrections from the new …
We estimate the accuracy with which the coefficient of the CP even dimension six operators involving Higgs and two vector bosons (HVV) can be measured at linear $e^+ e^-$ colliders. Using the optimal observables method for the kinematic distributions, our analysis is based on the five different processes. First is the WW fusion process in the t-channel ($e^+e^- \to \barν_e ν_e H$), where we use the rapidity y and the transverse momentum $\pT$ of the Higgs boson as observables. Second is the ZH pair production process in the s-channel, where we use the scattering angle of the Z and the Z decay …
The latest electroweak precission data allow the existence of additional chiral generations in the standard model. We study the influence of extra generations on the production of SM Higgs boson at hadron colliders. Due to the enhancement of the gluon fusion channel, the ``golden mode'' becomes more promising even at upgraded Tevatron. Furthermore, the formation of the fourth family quarkonia with the subsequent $η_{4}\to ZH$ decay introduces additional tool for the investigation of the Higgs boson properties.
The search for the effects of heavy fermions in the extension of the Standard Model with a fourth generation is part of the experimental program of the Tevatron and LHC experiments. Besides being directly produced, these states affect drastically the production and decay properties of the Higgs boson. In this note, we first reemphasize the known fact that in the case of a light and long-lived fourth neutrino, the present collider searches do not permit to exclude a Higgs boson with a mass below the WW threshold. In a second step, we show that the recent results from the ATLAS and CMS collabora…
Using the recently derived NNLO cross sections \cite{Czakon:2013goa}, we provide NNLO+NNLL theoretical predictions for top quark pair production based on all the available NNLO PDF sets, and compare them with the most precise LHC and Tevatron data. In this comparison we study in detail the PDF uncertainty and the scale, $m_t$ and $α_s$ dependence of the theoretical predictions for each PDF set. Next, we observe that top quark pair production provides a powerful direct constraint on the gluon PDF at large $x$, and include Tevatron and LHC top pair data consistently into a global NNLO PDF fit. W…
