We investigate the impact of the fourth generation quarks on production and decays of the charged Higgs boson at CERN Large Hadron Collider (LHC) with triple $b$-tagging. The signal is the process $gg\to \bar{u_4}u_4$, followed by $\bar{u_4}\to W^{-} \bar{b}$ and $u_4\to h^{+} b$ decays with subsequent $h^{+}\to t \bar{b}$ and corresponding hermitic conjugates. It is shown that, if $m_{u_{4}}= 400$ GeV, considered process will provide unique opportunity to discover charged Higgs boson with mass range of 200 to 350 GeV at the first years of the LHC run.
I present a general exclusion bound for the Higgs in fourth generation scenarios with a general lepton sector. Recent Higgs searches in fourth generation scenarios rule out the entire Higgs mass region between 120 and 600 GeV. That such a large range of Higgs masses are excluded is due to the presence of extra heavy flavors of quarks, which substantially increase Higgs production from gluon fusion over the Standard Model rate. However, if heavy fourth generation neutrinos are less than half of the Higgs mass, they can dominate the Higgs decay branching fraction, overtaking the standard Higgs t…
We reanalyze constraints on the mass spectrum of the chiral fourth generation fermions and the Higgs bosons for the standard model (SM4) and the two Higgs doublet model (THDM). We find that the Higgs mass in the SM4 should be larger than roughly the fourth generation up-type quark mass, while the light CP even Higgs mass in the THDM can be smaller. Various mass spectra of the fourth generation fermions and the Higgs bosons are allowed. The phenomenology of the fourth generation models is still rich.
It is shown that if the fourth SM fermion family exists then the Higgs boson could be observed at the LHC with an integrated luminosity of few fb-1. The Higgs discovery potential for different channels is discussed in the presence of the fourth SM family.
We explore an extension of the fourth generation model with multi-Higgs doublets and three fermion singlets. The Standard Model neutrinos acquire mass radiatively at one loop level while the fourth generation neutrinos acquire a heavy tree-level mass. The model also contains several Dark Matter candidate whose stability is guaranteed by a $Z_2$ discrete symmetry. The possibility of CP violation in the scalar sector is also briefly discussed.
We analyze the flavor changing decay $h\rightarrow μτ$ in the framework of a Two Higgs Doublet Model with a fourth generation of fermions (4G2HDM) which couples only to the heavy scalar doublet. We obtain that the respective branching ratio at one-loop level can reach values as high as $ 10^{-4}-10^{-6} $ for masses of $ 300 $ GeV to $ 1 $ TeV for the heavy leptons in the fourth family and the new heavy Higgs bosons. These radiative corrections are of the same order of magnitude as the tree level prediction of the 4G2HDM.
We investigate the possible enhancement to the discovery of the heavy Higgs boson through the possible fourth SM family heavy neutrino. Using the channel h-> v4 v4->mu W mu W-> mu j j mu j j, it is found that for certain ranges of Higgs boson and v4 masses LHC could discover both of them simultaneously with 1 fb^-1 integrated luminosity.
The resonant production of the fourth family slepton ~l_4 via R-parity violating interactions of supersymmetry at the Large Hadron Collider has been investigated. We study the decay mode of ~l_4 into the fourth family neutrino nu_4 and W boson. The signal will be a like-sign dimuon and dijet if the fourth family neutrino has Majorana nature. We discuss the constraints on the R-parity violating couplings lambda and lambda' of the fourth family charged slepton at the LHC with the center of mass energies of 7, 10 and 14 TeV.
The first evidence of new strong interactions may be a sufficiently massive fourth family observed at the LHC. The fourth family masses, of the leptons in particular, are constrained by the electroweak precision data, and this leads to signatures at the LHC that may imply early discovery. We study the implications of this discovery from a bottom-up perspective, where effective 4-fermion operators model the dominant effects of the new dynamics. We identify simple approximate symmetries of these operators that may be required for realistic masses of the third and fourth families. The large top m…
We study the single production of the fourth family quarks through the process pp--> Q'jX at the Large Hadron Collider (LHC). We have calculated the decay widths and branching ratios of the fourth family quarks (b' and t') in the mass range 300-800 GeV. The cross sections of signal and background processes have been calculated in a Monte Carlo framework. It is shown that the LHC can discover single t' and b' quarks if the CKM matrix elements |V_{t'q}|,|V_{qb'}|>=0.01.
Superjet events observed by the CDF Collaboration are interpreted as anomalous single production of the fourth SM family u_4 quark, decaying into a new light scalar particle. The specific predictions of the proposed mechanism are discussed.
We evaluate the LHC discovery potential for the fourth family Standard Model neutrinos in the process $pp\to Z/h\toν_{4}{\barν_{4}}\to WμWμ$. We show that, depending on their masses, the simultaneous discovery of both the Higgs boson and the heavy neutrinos is probable at early stages of LHC operation. Results are presented for both Majorana and Dirac type fourth family neutrinos.
Condensates of colored fermions driving electroweak symmetry breaking could give rise to a light pseudoscalar that would show up in the Higgs search at the LHC. The branching ratios of its decay will distinguish it from the Higgs and illuminate its origin. In particular the colored fermions may be the techniquarks of a one family technicolor theory or the quarks of a strongly interacting fourth family. The former has more difficulties in this context.
In the context of the Standard model with a fourth generation, we explore the allowed mass spectra in the fourth generation quark and lepton sectors as functions of the Higgs mass. Using the constraints from unitarity and oblique parameters, we show that a heavy Higgs allows large mass splittings in these sectors, opening up new decay channels involving W emission. A Higgs heavier than $ \sim 800 GeV $ would in fact necessitate either a heavy quark decay channel t'-> b'W/b'-> t' W or a heavy lepton decay channel τ' -> ν' W as long as the mixing between the third and fourth generations is small…
Contrary to the common perception, we show that the current Higgs data does not eliminate the possibility of a sequential fourth generation that get their masses through the same Higgs mechanism as the first three generations. The inability to fix the sign of the bottom-quark Yukawa coupling from the available data plays a crucial role in accommodating a chiral fourth generation which is consistent with the bounds on the Higgs signal strengths. We show that effects of such a fourth generation can remain completely hidden not only in the production of the Higgs boson through gluon fusion but al…
A sequential fourth generation is known to be excluded because the non-decoupling contribution to $κ_g$, the Higgs coupling modifier with a gluon pair, is unacceptably large. Recently a new way to save the model was suggested in the Type-II two Higgs doublet model: if the Yukawa couplings of down-type fermions have wrong-sign, the contributions from $t'$ and $b'$ to $κ_g$ are cancelled. We study the theoretical and experimental constraints on this model, focusing on the heavy Higgs bosons. Two constraining features are pointed out. First the exact wrong-sign limit does not allow the alignment,…
I analyze a fourth generation lepton sector in which the lightest particle is a stable Majorana neutrino. In this scenario fourth generation neutrinos have both a Dirac and Majorana mass, resulting in two Majorana neutrino mass eigenstates. A reanalysis of LEP's lower mass bound is performed on stable Majorana neutrinos from the Z width and the lower mass bound is loosened. I also extrapolate LEP's SUSY squark search with a 2 jet plus missing missing energy final state to the production and decay of a pair of heavy Majorana neutrinos; here it is expected that significant regions of the neutrin…
We study the pair production of fourth generation neutrinos from the decay of an on-shell Higgs produced by gluon fusion. In a fourth generation scenario, the Higgs branching fraction into fourth generation neutrinos may be quite large. In the case that the unstable heavy neutrinos are a mixed Majorana and Dirac state, neutrinos pair-produced from Higgs decay will yield a substantial number of like-sign dilepton events. In this article we use inclusive like-sign dilepton searches from hadron colliders to constrain the theoretical parameter space of fourth generation leptons.
The Schwinger-Dyson equation for the quark self-energy is solved for the case of the third and fourth quark generations. The exchanges of standard model gluons and Higgs bosons are taken into account. It is found that Higgs boson exchange dominates quark self-energy in the ultraviolet region for sufficiently large input quark masses, causing the running quark propagator mass to increase with energy-scale. No running of the quark mixing angles is found for input quark masses up to and including 500 GeV.
We discuss the time-dependent CP asymmetry of decay $B \to ϕK_S$ in an extension of the Standard Model with both two Higgs doublets and additional fourth-generation quarks. We show that although the Standard Model with two-Higgs-doublet and the Standard model with fourth generation quarks alone are not likely to largely change the effective $\sin 2 β$ from the decay of $B \to ϕK_S $, the model with both additional Higgs doublet and fourth-generation quarks can easily account for the possible large negative value of $\sin 2 β$ without conflicting with other experimental constraints. In this mod…
Considering the present limits on the masses of fourth family quarks from the Tevatron experiments, the fourth family quarks are expected to have mass larger than the top quark. Due to their expected large mass they could have different dynamics than the quarks of three families of the Standard Model. The resonant production of the fourth family up type quark t' has been studied via anomalous production subprocess gq_i-->t' (where q_i=u,c) at the LHC with the center of mass energy 10 TeV and 14 TeV. The signatures of such process are discussed within the SM decay modes. The sensitivity to anom…
We show that simultaneous precision measurement of the CP-violating phase in time-dependent Bs --> J/psi phi study and the Bs --> mu+ mu- rate, together with measuring m_t' by direct search at the LHC, would determine V_{t's}^*V_{t'b} and therefore the b --> s quadrangle in the four-generation standard model. The forward-backward asymmetry in B --> K* l+ l- provides further discrimination.
Possible anomalous single productions of the fourth standard model generation up and down type quarks at CERN Large Hadron Collider are studied. Namely, $p p \to u_4 (d_4) X$ with subsequent $u_4\to bW^{+}$ process followed by leptonic decay of $W$ boson and $d_4\to bγ$ (and its h.c.) decay channel are considered. Signatures of these processes and corresponding standard model backgrounds are discussed in detail. Discovery limits for quark mass and achievable values of anomalous coupling strength are determined.
We analyse the impact of LHC and Tevatron Higgs data on the viability of the Standard Model with a sequential fourth generation (SM4), assuming Dirac neutrinos and a Higgs mass of 125 GeV. To this end we perform a combined fit to the signal cross sections of pp -> H -> gamma gamma,ZZ*,WW* at the LHC, to p pbar -> VH -> V b bbar (V = W, Z) at the Tevatron and to the electroweak precision observables. Fixing the mass of the fourth generation down-type quark b' to 600 GeV we find best-fit values of m_t' = 632 GeV, m_l4 = 113.6 GeV and m_nu4 = 58.0 GeV for the other fourth-generation fermion masse…
We perform a global fit of the parameters of the Standard Model with a sequential fourth generation (SM4) to LHC and Tevatron Higgs data and electroweak precision data. Using several likelihood ratio tests we compare the performance of the SM4 and SM3 at describing the measured data. Since the SM3 and SM4 are not nested (i.e. the SM3 can not be considered as a special case of the SM4 with some parameters fixed) the usual analytical formulae for p-values in likelihood ratio tests do not hold. We thus apply a new method to compute these p-values. For a Higgs mass of 126.5 GeV and fourth-generati…
We present the calculation of the light neutral CP-even Higgs mass in the MSSM for a heavy SUSY spectrum by resumming enhanced terms through fourth logarithmic order (N$^3$LL), keeping terms of leading order in the top Yukawa coupling $α_t$, and NNLO in the strong coupling $α_s$. To this goal, the three-loop matching coefficient for the quartic Higgs coupling of the SM to the MSSM is derived to order $α_t^2α_s^2$ by comparing the perturbative EFT to the fixed-order expression for the Higgs mass. The new matching coefficient is made available through an updated version of the program Himalaya. …
We study Higgs-radion mixing in a warped extra dimensional model with Standard Model fields in the bulk, and we include a fourth generation of chiral fermions. The main problem with the fourth generation is that, in the absence of Higgs-radion mixing, it produces a large enhancement in the Higgs production cross-section, now severely constrained by LHC data. We analyze the production and decay rates of the two physical states emerging from the mixing and confront them with present LHC data. We show that the current signals observed can be compatible with the presence of one, or both, of these …
Searches for charged Higgs bosons are an integral part of current and future investigations at the LHC. The LHC Higgs Cross Section Working Group (LHCHXSWG) was created to provide cross sections, branching ratios, analysis strategies etc. for Higgs boson searches at the LHC. We briefly review progress and results for charged Higgs bosons in and for the LHCHXSWG.
It is possible that there are additional vector-like generations where the quarks have mass terms that do not originate from weak symmetry breaking, but the leptons only get mass through weak symmetry breaking. We discuss the impact that the new leptons have on Higgs boson decay branching ratios and on the range of allowed Higgs masses in such a model (with a single new vector-like generation). We find that if the fourth generation leptons are too heavy to be produced in Higgs decay, then the new leptons reduce the branching ratio for h -> gamma gamma to about 30% of its standard-model value. …
From the present limits on the masses and mixings of fourth family quarks, they are expected to have mass larger than the top quark and allow a large range of mixing of the third family. They could also have different dynamics than the quarks of three families of the Standard Model. The single production of the fourth family up type quark t' has been studied via anomalous production process pp-> t'VX (where V=g,Z,γ) at the LHC with the center of mass energy of 7 and 14 TeV. The signatures of such process are discussed within both the SM decay modes and anomalous decay modes of t' quarks. The s…
Recent Tevatron exclusion interval of the masses of Higgs boson considerably reduces in case of the light quasistable fourth generation neutral lepton.
If a fourth generation quark exists whose mass is below 255 GeV, then the only two-body charged current decay, b'-->cW, is doubly-Cabibbo suppressed. For this reason, CDF has searched for the one-loop neutral current decay b' --> bZ, assuming that the branching ratio into bZ is 100%; an analysis giving the bounds on m_b' for smaller branching ratios is in preparation. In this Report, we examine the neutral current decay b' --> bH, which will occur if the Higgs mass is less than m_b'-m_b. Four different cases are examined: the sequential case, the non-chiral isosinglet case, the non-chiral isod…
The predicted value of the higgs mass $m_H$ is analyzed assuming the existence of the fourth generation of leptons ($N, E$) and quarks ($U, D$). The steep and flat directions are found in the five-dimensional parameter space: $m_H$, $m_U$, $m_D$, $m_N$, $m_E$. The LEPTOP fit of the precision electroweak data is compatible (in particular) with $m_H \sim 300$ GeV, $m_N \sim 50$ GeV, $m_E \sim 100$ GeV, $m_U +m_D \sim 500$ GeV, and $|m_U -m_D| \sim 75$ GeV. The quality of fits drastically improves when the data on b- and c-quark asymmetries and new NuTeV data on deep inelastic scattering are igno…
The existence of a fourth fermion generation has mostly been considered as a source of enhanced Higgs signals with respect to the 3 family Standard Model predictions. However, a fourth Standard Model family neutrino could cause the opposite situation. It is shown that relatively light fourth family neutrino (2m_(nu_(4))<m_(H)) could drastically change the interpretation of the search results for the Higgs boson, especially if m_(H)<170 GeV.
We review the potential of the LHC to detect a very light CP-odd Higgs boson of the NMSSM, $a_1$, through its direct production in association with a bottom-quark pair at large tan$β$. We also review the LHC discovery potential of the two lightest CP-even Higgs states, decaying into two lighter Higgs states or into the lightest CP-odd Higgs state and the $Z$ gauge boson.
One of the major goal of the Large Hadron Collider (LHC) is to probe the electroweak symmetry breaking mechanism and the generation of the masses of the elementary particles. We review the physics of the Higgs sector in the Standard Model. The main production channels of the Higgs production at the LHC are reviewed. The prospects for the discovering the Higgs particles at the LHC and the study of their fundamental properties are summarizes.
We use a Monte Carlo implementation of recently developped models of double diffractive Higgs production to assess the sensitivity of the LHC experiments.
We investigate the effect of introducing a sequential generation of chiral fermions in the Higgs Triplet Model with nontrivial mixing between the doublet and triplet Higgs. We use the available LHC data for Higgs boson production and decay rates, the constraints on the fourth generation masses, and impose electroweak precision constraints from the S, T and U parameters. Our analysis shows that an SM-like Higgs boson state at ~125 GeV can be accommodated in the Higgs Triplet Model with four generations, and thus, that four generations survive collider and electroweak precision constraints in mo…
In this talk I discuss the status and future prospects of testing the Higgs self-couplings at the High Luminosity LHC (HL-LHC) as well as several Beyond Standard Model (BSM) scenarios that could be probed via Higgs pair production in the coming years.
We discuss the importance of being able to detect Higgs-to-Higgs-pair decays in the context of the Next-to-Minimal Supersymmetric Model (NMSSM) and demonstrate the excellent capabilities of a photon collider for this purpose.
The expected sensitivity of the LHC experiments to the discovery of the Higgs boson and the measurement of its properties is presented in the context of both the standard model and the its minimal supersymmetric extension. Prospects for a luminosity-upgraded ``Super-LHC'' are also presented.
The discovery of the Standard Model (SM) or supersymmetric (SUSY) Higgs bosons belongs to the main endeavors of the Large Hadron Collider (LHC). In this article the status of the signal and background calculations for Higgs boson production at the LHC is reviewed.
Higgs boson productions at the LHC will serve as a sensitive probe of various little Higgs models. In this work we comparatively study two littlest Higgs models with different T-parity constructions through examining their effects in three production processes of the Higgs boson at the LHC, namely the productions of a single Higgs, a Higgs-pair, as well as a Higgs boson associated with a pair of top and anti-top quarks. The two models are characterized by predicting a top partner canceling the Higgs mass quadratic divergence contributed by the top quark with even and odd T-parity, respectively…
We discuss the phenomenology of many Higgs doublet model - the model where each Higgs isodoublet couples with each own quark and lepton with relatively big Yukawa coupling constants. Namely, we discuss the discovery potential of the Higgs bosons at LHC and find lower mass limits on nonstandard Higgs bosons from FNAL data.
We review the most relevant LHC searches at $\sqrt{s}$ = 8 TeV looking for low mass bosons arising from exotic decay of the Standard Model Higgs and highlighting their impact on both supersymmetric and not supersymmetric Beyond the Standard Model scenarios.
The present status of theoretical calculations for signal and background processes relevant to the Higgs boson search at the LHC is reviewed, with special emphasis on recent developments. The issue of Higgs properties determination at the LHC is addressed.
Resonant production of fourth chiral family up quark at the LHC via anomalous interactions have been analyzed. It is shown that search for resonances in W^{+}b final states could lead to discovery of the fourth chiral family and simultaneously determine scale of the new physics, presumabely related to the quark and lepton compositeness. Obtained results emphasize an importance of W-leading jet invariant mass analysis in search for W+jets final states at the LHC, both with and without b-tagging.
The observation of a SM-like Higgs boson in multiple channels at the LHC allows the extraction of Higgs couplings to gauge bosons and fermions. The precision achievable at the LHC, for an integrated luminosity of 200 fb^{-1}, is reviewed and updated.
It is expected that the LHC will soon discover the Higgs boson, or that failure to find it will severely constrain its production cross-section over a large mass range. Either one of these results spells trouble for a fourth generation that significantly enhances the Higgs production cross-section at LHC. In fact the LHC has already ruled out a SM Higgs mass in the range of 120 GeV to 600 GeV with a fourth generation at the 95% C.L. In this paper we explore options within extended scalar sectors to maintain the viability of a heavy fourth generation if an enhanced (relative to the Standard Mod…
Recent theoretical progress in the evaluation of Higgs boson production at the LHC within the Standard Model and its minimal supersymmetric extension is reviewed. In particular the two-loop QCD corrections to the squark loop contributions to scalar Higgs production in the MSSM and soft gluon resummation effects in Standard and SUSY Higgs production via the gluon fusion mechanism are discussed.
We update our analysis of the Higgs sector masses in Minimal Supersymmetry and in the Two-Higgs Doublet Model to the final ATLAS and CMS data from the 2011-2012 LHC run.
Following recent ATLAS and CMS publications we interpret the results of their Higgs searches in terms of Standard Model operators. For a Higgs mass of 125 GeV we determine several Higgs couplings from 2011 data and extrapolate the results towards different scenarios of LHC running. Even though our analysis is limited by low statistics we already derive meaningful constraints on modified Higgs sectors.
In the Standard Model with four generations, the two-loop renormalization group equations for the Higgs quartic and Yukawa couplings have a fixed point structure. If the masses of the fourth family are sufficiently heavy, it will contain a natural scale $Λ_{FP}$ in the range of a few TeV to the order of $10^2$ TeV, above which the Higgs quartic and Yukawa couplings become practically constant. We found that around $Λ_{FP}$ the strong Yukawa couplings make it possible for the fourth generation to form bound states, including composite extra Higgs doublets. In this scenario the fourth generation…
Light states associated with the hierarchy problem affect the Higgs LHC production and decays. We illustrate this within the MSSM and two simple extensions applying the latest bounds from LHC Higgs searches. Large deviations in the Higgs properties are expected in a natural SUSY spectrum. The discovery of a non-Standard-Model Higgs may signal the presence of light stops accessible at the LHC. Conversely, the more the Higgs is Standard-Model-like, the more tuned the theory becomes. Taking the ratio of different Higgs decay channels at the LHC cancels the leading QCD uncertainties and potentiall…
We study the neutral Higgs boson production at the CERN Large Hadron Collider (LHC) and the future $e^- e^+$ linear collider (ILC) in the two Higgs doublet model with CP violation. The CP-even and CP-odd scalars are mixed in this model, which affects the production processes of neutral Higgs boson. We examine the correlation of the Higgs production at LHC and ILC and provide a strategy to distinguish the model from the CP conserving model and to determine the parameters of the Higgs sector.
