Possible single productions of fourth family u_{4} and d_{4} quarks via anomalous q_{4}qV interactions at Tevatron are studied. Signature of such processes are discussed and compared with the recent results from Tevatron.
It is shown that the fourth standard model (SM) family quarks can be observed at the Fermilab Tevatron if their anomalous interactions with known quarks have sufficient strength.
Existence of the fourth family follows from the basics of the Standard Model and the actual mass spectrum of the third family fermions. We discuss possible manifestations of the fourth SM family at existing and future colliders. The LHC and Tevatron potentials to discover the fourth SM family have been compared. The scenario with dominance of the anomalous decay modes of the fourth family quarks has been considered in details.
We study the observability for a Higgs boson at upgraded Tevatron via the modes gg->h->ZZ->4l (l=e,mu). We find that the signal can be observed at an integrated luminosity of 30 fb^(-1) if the fourth SM family exists.
We analyze the power of the Tevatron dataset to exclude or discover fourth generation neutrinos. In a general framework, one can have mixed left- and right-handed neutrinos, with Dirac and Majorana neutrinos as extreme cases. We demonstrate that a single Tevatron experiment can make powerful statements across the entire mixing space, extending LEP's mass limits of 60-80 GeV up to 150-175 GeV, depending on the mixing.
Recent Tevatron exclusion interval of the masses of Higgs boson considerably reduces in case of the light quasistable fourth generation neutral lepton.
If next generations of heavy quarks and leptons exist within the standard model (SM), they can manifest themselves in Higgs boson production at the Tevatron and the LHC, before being actually observed. This generation leads to an increase of the Higgs boson production cross section via gluon fusion at hadron colliders by a factor 6-9. So, the study of this process at the Tevatron and LHC can finally fix the number of generations in the SM. Using the $WW^*$ Higgs boson decay channel, the studies at the upgraded Tevatron will answer the question about the next generation for mass values 135 GeV …
We examine the possibility that a new strong interaction is accessible to the Tevatron and the LHC. In an effective theory approach, we consider a scenario with a new color-octet interaction with strong couplings to the top quark, as well as the presence of a strongly coupled fourth-generation which could be responsible for electroweak symmetry breaking. We apply several constraints, including the ones from flavor physics. We study the phenomenology of the resulting parameter space at the Tevatron, focusing on the the forward-backward asymmetry in top pair production, as well as in the product…
We analyse the impact of LHC and Tevatron Higgs data on the viability of the Standard Model with a sequential fourth generation (SM4), assuming Dirac neutrinos and a Higgs mass of 125 GeV. To this end we perform a combined fit to the signal cross sections of pp -> H -> gamma gamma,ZZ*,WW* at the LHC, to p pbar -> VH -> V b bbar (V = W, Z) at the Tevatron and to the electroweak precision observables. Fixing the mass of the fourth generation down-type quark b' to 600 GeV we find best-fit values of m_t' = 632 GeV, m_l4 = 113.6 GeV and m_nu4 = 58.0 GeV for the other fourth-generation fermion masse…
The latest electroweak precission data allow the existence of additional chiral generations in the standard model. We study the influence of extra generations on the production of SM Higgs boson at hadron colliders. Due to the enhancement of the gluon fusion channel, the ``golden mode'' becomes more promising even at upgraded Tevatron. Furthermore, the formation of the fourth family quarkonia with the subsequent $η_{4}\to ZH$ decay introduces additional tool for the investigation of the Higgs boson properties.
We show that, if a fourth generation is discovered at the Tevatron or LHC, one could study CP violation in b' \to s decays. Asymmetries could reach 30% for b'\to sZ for m_{b'} \lesssim 350 GeV, while it could be greater than 50% for b'\to sγand extend to higher m_{b'}. Branching ratios are 10^{-3}--10^{-5}, and CPV measurement requires tagging. Once measured, however, the CPV phase can be extracted with little theoretical uncertainty.
Recent results from the Tevatron are reported on Higgs boson searches in models beyond the standard model (SM). The models include fermiophobic Higgs bosons, the extension of the SM to a fourth generation of fermions, supersymmetric scenarios and heavy Higgs boson cascade decays.
If fourth family condensates are responsible for electroweak symmetry breaking then they may also break approximate global symmetries. Among the resulting pseudo-Goldstone bosons are those that can have diquark quantum numbers. We describe the variety of diquarks and their decay modes, and we find aspects that are particular to the fourth family framework. Spectacular signatures at the LHC appear and are explored for color sextet diquarks with 600 GeV mass. We consider a simple search strategy which avoids diquark reconstruction. We also consider 350 GeV mass diquarks that are accessible at th…
The search for the effects of heavy fermions in the extension of the Standard Model with a fourth generation is part of the experimental program of the Tevatron and LHC experiments. Besides being directly produced, these states affect drastically the production and decay properties of the Higgs boson. In this note, we first reemphasize the known fact that in the case of a light and long-lived fourth neutrino, the present collider searches do not permit to exclude a Higgs boson with a mass below the WW threshold. In a second step, we show that the recent results from the ATLAS and CMS collabora…
Considering the present limits on the masses of fourth family quarks from the Tevatron experiments, the fourth family quarks are expected to have mass larger than the top quark. Due to their expected large mass they could have different dynamics than the quarks of three families of the Standard Model. The resonant production of the fourth family up type quark t' has been studied via anomalous production subprocess gq_i-->t' (where q_i=u,c) at the LHC with the center of mass energy 10 TeV and 14 TeV. The signatures of such process are discussed within the SM decay modes. The sensitivity to anom…
The existence of fourth family follows from the basics of the Standard Model. Because of the high masses of the fourth family quarks, their anomalous decays could be dominant, if certain criteria are met. This will drastically change the search strategy at hadron colliders. We show that the fourth SM family down quarks with masses up to 400-450 GeV can be observed (or excluded) via anomalous decays by Tevatron before the LHC.
We perform a global fit of the parameters of the Standard Model with a sequential fourth generation (SM4) to LHC and Tevatron Higgs data and electroweak precision data. Using several likelihood ratio tests we compare the performance of the SM4 and SM3 at describing the measured data. Since the SM3 and SM4 are not nested (i.e. the SM3 can not be considered as a special case of the SM4 with some parameters fixed) the usual analytical formulae for p-values in likelihood ratio tests do not hold. We thus apply a new method to compute these p-values. For a Higgs mass of 126.5 GeV and fourth-generati…
The flavor democracy favors the existence of the nearly degenerate fourth SM family, whereas the fifth SM family is disfavored both by the mass phenomenology and precision tests of the Standard Model. The multi-hundreds GeV fourth family quarks will be copiously produced at the LHC. However, the first indication of the fourth family may come from the Higgs search at the upgraded Tevatron.
A heavy fourth family is an example of new physics which is well defined and familiar in some respects, but which nevertheless has radical implications. In particular it eliminates a light Higgs description of electroweak symmetry breaking. We discuss an early signal for heavy quarks at the LHC in the form of an excess of "$W$-jets", and as well show how $W$-jets may be useful in the reconstruction of the heavy quark masses. We argue that fourth family quarks can be distinguished from vector-like quarks of a similar mass at roughly the same time that a same sign lepton signal becomes visible. …
A fourth generation could provide, within SUSY, a solution to baryogenesis at the EW scale. It is allowed by precision measurements. Available data from Tevatron already restrict the allowed domain of parameters for the new quarks and the Higgs boson. There are some indications from b->s transitions which could be interpreted within an extension of the CKM matrix to 4x4, in particular CPV in the Bs time-dependence for the J/Psi-Phi mode observed at Tevatron. If confirmed with more data the 4MSSM interpretation predicts a very interesting scenario for LHC and a TeV LC.
The necessity of the fourth family follows from the SM basics. According to flavor democracy the Dirac masses of the fourth SM family fermions are almost equal with preferable value 450 GeV, which corresponds to common (for all fundamental fermions) Yukawa coupling equal to SU(2) gauge coupling gW. In principle, one expect u4 a little bit lighter than d4, while nu4 could be essentially lighter than l4 due to Majorana mass terms for right-handed components of neutrinos. Obviously, the fourth family quarks will be copiously produced at the LHC. However, the first indication of the fourth SM fami…
The present paper is based on the assumption that heavy quarks bound states exist in the Standard Model (SM). Considering New Bound States (NBS) of top-anti-top quarks (named T-balls) we have shown that: 1) there exists the scalar 1S--bound state of $6t+6\bar t$; 2) the forces which bind the top-quarks are very strong and almost completely compensate the mass of the twelve top-anti-top-quarks in the scalar NBS; 3) such strong forces are produced by the Higgs-top-quarks interaction with a large value of the top-quark Yukawa coupling constant $g_t\simeq 1$. Theory also predicts the existence of …

We study the detection of the $t^\prime$ of a fourth family during the early running of LHC with 7 TeV collision energy and 1 fb$^{-1}$ integrated luminosity. By use of a neural network we show that it is feasible to search for the $t'$ even with a mass close to the unitarity upper bound, which is in the 500 to 600 GeV range. We also present results for the Tevatron with $10 \,\, \textrm{fb}^{-1}$. In both cases the search for a fourth family quark doublet can be significantly enhanced if one incorporates the contribution that the $b'$ can make to a $t'$-like signal. Thus the bound on the mass…
A chiral fourth generation is a simple and well motivated extension of the standard model, and has important consequences for Higgs phenomenology. Here we consider a scenario where the fourth generation neutrinos are long lived and have both a Dirac and Majorana mass term. Such neutrinos can be as light as 40 GeV and can be the dominant decay mode of the Higgs boson for Higgs masses below the W-boson threshold. We study the effect of the Majorana mass term on the Higgs branching fractions and reevaluate the Tevatron constraints on the Higgs mass. We discuss the prospects for the LHC to detect …
The present talk is based on the assumption that New Bound States (NBSs) of top-anti-top quarks (named T-balls) exist in the Standard Model (SM): a) there exists the scalar 1S - bound state of 6t+6\bar t - the bound state of 6 top-quarks with their 6 anti-top-quarks; b) the forces which bind these top-quarks are very strong and almost completely compensate the mass of the 12 top-anti-top-quarks forming this bound state; c) such strong forces are produced by the interactions of top-quarks via the virtual exchange of the scalar Higgs bosons having the large value of the top-quark Yukawa coupling…
We revisit the stability and triviality bounds on the Higgs boson mass in the context of the Standard Model with three and four generations (SM3 and SM4, respectively). In light of the recent results from LHC the triviality bound in the SM3 has now become obsolete, and the stability bound implies for a Higgs mass of e.g. mH=115 GeV the onset of new physics before 650 TeV, whereas there are no limits for mH>133 GeV. For the SM4, the stability and triviality curves intersect and bound a finite region. As a consequence, the fourth generation fermions place stringent theoretical limits on the Higg…
Direct and indirect searches of the Higgs boson suggest that 113 GeV $\lesssim m_H \lesssim$ 170 GeV is likely. With the LEP era over and the Tevatron Run II search via $p\bar p \to WH+X$ arduous, we revisit a case where $WH$ or $ZH +$ jets could arise via strong $b^\prime\bar b^\prime$ pair production. In contrast to 10 years ago, the tight electroweak constraint on $t^\prime$--$b^\prime$ (hence $t^\prime$--$t$) splitting reduces FCNC $b^\prime\to bZ$, $bH$ rates, making $b^\prime\to cW$ naturally competitive. Such a "cocktail solution" is precisely the mix that could evade the CDF search for…
Utilizing recent three-loop results on the quark and gluon splitting functions and form factors, we derive the complete threshold-enhanced third-order (N^3LO) QCD corrections to the total cross sections for the production of lepton pairs and the Higgs boson in hadron collisions. These results, for the latter case obtained in the heavy top-quark limit, are employed to extend the threshold resummation for these processes to the fourth logarithmic order. We investigate the numerical impact of the higher-order corrections for Higgs boson production at the Tevatron and the LHC. Our results, suitabl…
We consider extensions of the Standard Model with a number of additional heavy quarks which couple to the Higgs boson via top-like Yukawa interactions. We construct an effective theory valid for a Higgs boson mass which is lighter than twice the lightest heavy quark mass and compute the corresponding Wilson coefficient through NNLO. We present numerical results for the gluon fusion cross-section at the Tevatron for an extension of the Standard Model with a fourth generation of heavy quarks. The gluon fusion cross-section is enhanced by a factor of roughly 9 with respect to the Standard Model v…
HiggsBounds is a computer code that tests theoretical predictions of models with arbitrary Higgs sectors against the exclusion bounds obtained from the Higgs searches at LEP and the Tevatron. The included experimental information comprises exclusion bounds at 95% C.L. on topological cross sections. In order to determine which search topology has the highest exclusion power, the program also includes, for each topology, information from the experiments on the expected exclusion bound, which would have been observed in case of a pure background distribution. Using the predictions of the desired …
We present an update of the Standard Model fit to electroweak precision data. We include newest experimental results on the top quark mass, the W mass and width, and the Higgs boson mass bounds from LEP, Tevatron and the LHC. We also include a new determination of the electromagnetic coupling strength at the Z pole. We find for the Higgs boson mass (91 +30 -23) GeV and (120 +12 -5) GeV when not including and including the direct Higgs searches, respectively. From the latter fit we indirectly determine the W mass to be (80.360 +0.014 -0.013) GeV. We exploit the data to determine experimental co…
The generalization of the MSSM to the case of four chiral fermion generations (4GMSSM) can lead to significant changes in the phenomenology of the otherwise familiar Higgs sector. In most of the 3GMSSM parameter space, the lighter CP-even $h$ is $\sim 115-125$ GeV and mostly Standard Model-like while $H,A,H^\pm$ are all relatively heavy. Furthermore, the ratio of Higgs vevs, $\tan β$, is relatively unconstrained. In contrast to this, in the 4GMSSM, heavy fourth generation fermion loops drive the masses of $h,H,H^\pm$ to large values while the CP-odd boson, $A$, can remain relatively light and …
Based on the two Higgs doublet model, we study the effect of Higgs-boson exchange on the (super)heavy quarkonium \bar QQ, which induces a strong attractive force between a (super)heavy quark Q and an antiquark \bar Q. An interesting application is the decay of (super)heavy quarkonia \bar QQ into a Higgs boson associated with gauge bosons. The criterion for making the \bar QQ bound state is studied. We also show that non-perturbative effects due to gluonic field fluctuations are rather small in such a heavy quark sector. Possible enhancement for productions and decays of \bar QQ bound states ma…
We investigate the phenomenology of minimal four-family MSSM supergravity theories containing an additional generation of heavy fermions along with their superpartners. We demand: gauge coupling constant unification at high energy scales; perturbative values for all Yukawa couplings for energy scales $\leq \mgut$; radiative electroweak symmetry breaking via renormalization group evolution; and a neutral LSP. The perturbative constraints imply a light fourth-family quark and lepton spectrum, and $\tanb\lsim 3$. The lightest CP-even Higgs mass is increased. Fourth-family Yukawa coupling contribu…
We perform a comprehensive statistical analysis of the standard model (SM) with three and four generations using the latest Higgs search results from LHC and Tevatron, the electroweak precision observables (EWPOs) measured at LEP and SLD and the latest determinations of M_W, m_t and alpha_s. For the three-generation case we analyse the tensions in the electroweak fit by removing individual observables from the fit and comparing their predicted values with the measured ones. In particular, we discuss the impact of the Higgs search results on the deviations of the EWPOs from their best-fit value…
We investigate the prospects for Central Exclusive Diffractive (CED) production of BSM Higgs bosons at the LHC using forward proton detectors installed at 220 m and 420 m distance around ATLAS and / or CMS. We update a previous analysis for the MSSM taking into account improvements in the theoretical calculations and the most recent exclusion bounds from the Tevatron. We extend the MSSM analysis to new benchmark scenarios that are in agreement with the cold dark matter relic abundance and other precision measurements. We analyse the exclusive production of Higgs bosons in a model with a fourth…
The global fit of the Standard Model to electroweak precision data, routinely performed by the LEP electroweak working group and others, demonstrated impressively the predictive power of electroweak unification and quantum loop corrections. We have revisited this fit in view of (i) the development of the new generic fitting package Gfitter, (ii) the insertion of constraints from direct Higgs searches at LEP and the Tevatron, and (iii) a more thorough statistical interpretation of the results. Gfitter is a modular fitting toolkit, which features predictive theoretical models as independent plug…
We consider a scalar dark matter model, the SM4+D, consisting of the standard model with four generations (SM4) and a real gauge-singlet scalar called darkon, D, as the weakly interacting massive particle (WIMP) dark-matter (DM) candidate. We explore constraints on the darkon sector of the SM4+D from WIMP DM direct-search experiments, including CDMS II and CoGeNT, and from the decay of a B meson into a kaon plus missing energy. We find that a sizable portion of the darkon parameter space is still compatible with the experimental data. Since the darkon-Higgs interaction may give rise to conside…
After the discovery of the Higgs boson at the LHC, it is natural to start the research program on the precision study of the Higgs-boson couplings to various standard model (SM) particles. We provide a generic framework for the deviations of the couplings from their SM values by introducing a number of parameters. We show that a large number of models beyond the SM can be covered, including two-Higgs-doublet models, supersymmetric models, little-Higgs models, extended Higgs sectors with singlets, and fourth generation models. We perform global fits to the most updated data from CMS, ATLAS, and…
