In this report it is shown that the implicit Euler time-discretization of some classes of switching systems with sliding modes, yields a very good stabilization of the trajectory and of its derivative on the sliding surface. Therefore the spurious oscillations which are pointed out elsewhere when an explicit method is used, are avoided. Moreover the method (an {\em event-capturing}, or {\em time-stepping} algorithm) allows for accumulation of events (Zeno phenomena) and for multiple switching surfaces (i.e., a sliding surface of codimension $\geq 2$). The details of the implementation are given, and numerical examples illustrate the developments. This method may be an alternative method for chattering suppression, keeping the intrinsic discontinuous nature of the dynamics on the sliding surfaces. Links with discrete-time sliding mode controllers are studied.
Discrete maximal regularity of an implicit Euler--Maruyama scheme with non-uniform time discretisation for a class of stochastic partial differential equations
In this paper, we propose a new high order semi-implicit scheme for the all Mach full Euler equations of gas dynamics. Material waves are treated explicitly, while acoustic waves are treated implicitly, thus avoiding severe CFL restrictions for low Mach flows. High order accuracy in time is obtained by semi-implicit temporal integrator based on the IMEX Runge-Kutta (IMEX-RK) framework. High order in space is achieved by finite difference WENO schemes with characteristic-wise reconstructions adapted to the semi-implicit IMEX-RK time discretization. Type A IMEX schemes are constructed to handle …
In this paper we derive and analyse a class of linearly implicit schemes which includes the one of Feistauer and Kučera (JCP 2007) as well as the class of RS-IMEX schemes. The implicit part is based on a Jacobian matrix which is evaluated at a reference state. This state can be either the solution at the old time level as in Feistauer and Kučera (JCP 2007), or a numerical approximation of the incompressible limit equations as in Zeifang et al. (Commun. Comput. Phys. 2009), or possibly another state. Subsequently, it is shown that this class of methods is asymptotically preserving under the ass…
We analyse errors of randomized explicit and implicit Euler schemes for approximate solving of ordinary differential equations (ODEs). We consider classes of ODEs for which the right-hand side functions satisfy Lipschitz condition globally or only locally. Moreover, we assume that only inexact discrete information, corrupted by some noise, about the right-hand side function is available. Optimality and stability of explicit and implicit randomized Euler algorithms are also investigated.
The semi-implicit Euler-Maruyama (EM) method is investigated to approximate a class of time-changed stochastic differential equations, whose drift coefficient can grow super-linearly and diffusion coefficient obeys the global Lipschitz condition. The strong convergence of the semi-implicit EM is proved and the convergence rate is discussed. When the Bernstein function of the inverse subordinator (time-change) is regularly varying at zero, we establish the mean square polynomial stability of the underlying equations. In addition, the numerical method is proved to be able to preserve such an asy…
In this article, we consider numerical schemes for polynomial diffusions on the unit ball, which are solutions of stochastic differential equations with a diffusion coefficient of the form $\sqrt{1-|x|^{2}}$. We introduce a semi-implicit Euler--Maruyama scheme with the projection onto the unit ball and provide the $L^{2}$-rate of convergence. The main idea to consider the numerical scheme is the transformation argument introduced by Swart for proving the pathwise uniqueness for some stochastic differential equation with a non-Lipschitz diffusion coefficient.

This paper aims to investigate the numerical approximation of a general second order parabolic stochastic partial differential equation(SPDE) driven by multiplicative and additive noise under more relaxed conditions. The SPDE is discretized in space by the finite element method and in time by the linear implicit Euler method. This extends the current results in the literature to not necessary self-adjoint operator with more general boundary conditions. As a consequence key part of the proof does not rely on the spectral decomposition of the linear operator. We achieve optimal convergence order…
In this paper, the design and analysis of high order accurate IMEX finite volume schemes for the compressible Euler-Poisson (EP) equations in the quasineutral limit is presented. As the quasineutral limit is singular for the governing equations, the time discretisation is tantamount to achieving an accurate numerical method. To this end, the EP system is viewed as a differential algebraic equation system (DAEs) via the method of lines. As a consequence of this vantage point, high order linearly semi-implicit (SI) time discretisation are realised by employing a novel combination of the direct a…
This paper aims to investigate the numerical approximation of semilinear non-autonomous stochastic partial differential equations (SPDEs) driven by multiplicative or additive noise. Such equations are more realistic than autonomous SPDEs while modeling real world phenomena. Numerical approximations for autonomous SPDEs are thoroughly investigated in the literature, while the non-autonomous case is not yet well understood. The non-autonomous SPDE is discretized in space by the finite element method and in time by the linear implicit Euler method. We break the complexity in the analysis of the t…
We consider a numerical approximation of a linear quadratic control problem constrained by the stochastic heat equation with non-homogeneous Neumann boundary conditions. This involves a combination of distributed and boundary control, as well as both distributed and boundary noise. We apply the finite element method for the spatial discretization and the linear implicit Euler method for the temporal discretization. Due to the low regularity induced by the boundary noise, convergence orders above 1/2 in space and 1/4 in time cannot be expected. We prove such optimal convergence orders for our f…
A new type of low-regularity integrator is proposed for Navier-Stokes equations, coupled with a stabilized finite element method in space. Unlike the other low-regularity integrators for nonlinear dispersive equations, which are all fully explicit in time, the proposed method is semi-implicit in time in order to preserve the energy-decay structure of NS equations. First-order convergence of the proposed method is established independent of the viscosity coefficient $μ$, under weaker regularity conditions than other existing numerical methods, including the semi-implicit Euler method and classi…
We present strongly convergent explicit and semi-implicit adaptive numerical schemes for systems of stiff stochastic differential equations (SDEs) where both the drift and diffusion are non-globally Lipschitz continuous. This stiffness may originate either from a linear operator in the drift, or from a perturbation of the nonlinear structures under discretisation, or both. Typical applications arise from the space discretisation of an SPDE, stochastic volatility models in finance, or certain ecological models. We prove that a timetepping strategy that adapts the stepsize based on the drift alo…
We present an implicit-explicit finite volume scheme for the Euler equations. We start from the non-dimensionalised Euler equations where we split the pressure in a slow and a fast acoustic part. We use a Suliciu type relaxation model which we split in an explicit part, solved using a Godunov-type scheme based on an approximate Riemann solver, and an implicit part where we solve an elliptic equation for the fast pressure. The relaxation source terms are treated projecting the solution on the equilibrium manifold. The proposed scheme is positivity preserving with respect to the density and inte…

In this paper, we study the numerical approximation of a general second order semilinear stochastic partial differential equation (SPDE) driven by a additive fractional Brownian motion (fBm) with Hurst parameter $H>\frac 12$ and Poisson random measure, more realistic in modelling real world phenomena. To the best of our knowledge, numerical schemes for such SPDE have been lacked in scientific literature. The approximation is done with the standard finite element method in space and three Euler-type timestepping methods in time, more precisely linear implicit method, exponential integrator and …
We present an implicit-explicit well-balanced finite volume scheme for the Euler equations with a gravitational source term which is able to deal also with low Mach flows. To visualize the different scales we use the non-dimensionalized equations on which we apply a pressure splitting and a Suliciu relaxation. On the resulting model, we apply a splitting of the flux into a linear implicit and an non-linear explicit part that leads to a scale independent time-step. The explicit step consists of a Godunov type method based on an approximative Riemann solver where the source term is included in t…
