In this note, we explore the Tevatron and LHC detection prospects for a nonstandard Higgs whose decays contain both missing and visible energy. In particular, we consider the decay $h \to χ_2 χ_1$ where $χ_1$ is stable and $χ_2$ decay back to $χ_1$ and additional visible particles. We focus on adapting standard searches for both Higgses and supersymmetry to these decays. In these channels, the Tevatron has little reach, but the LHC has good prospects for decays that involve leptons or neutrinos. In particular, the standard WW* search for a Higgs produced in vector boson fusion has the largest reach. Trilepton searches and invisible Higgs searches are less powerful, but can give corroborating evidence. However, such standard searches could become inefficient for these signals if the analyses adopt model dependent tools such as matrix elements and neural nets.
In this article we consider the possibility of observing nonstandard Higgs bosons in the H -> Z A -> Z tau+ tau- channel. We present three benchmark scenarios in the NMSSM where H -> ZA is the dominant decay mode for one of the nonstandard Higgs bosons while the lightest CP-even Higgs is Standard Model like. Using the latest CMS multilepton analysis based on 7 TeV LHC data, we put limits on the signal cross-section, which constrain leptophilic scenarios. Projecting to future LHC analyses with improvements in background modeling, we show that with O(30) fb^{-1} of data, such a multilepton analy…
The crucial search for the Higgs boson at future colliders is capable of discovering the Standard Model Higgs, but is not guaranteed to discover a Higgs that decays nonstandardly. Such new physics is motivated by many aspects; from experiment, by the tension between precision electroweak fits and the LEP2 direct search bound and from theory, by issues of satisfying the LEP2 bound in theories that naturally have a lighter Higgs. The consistent nonstandard Higgs scenario is that the Higgs is lighter than the LEP2 bound and is consistent with direct search limits because the dominant new decays a…
Experimental and theoretical clues both suggest that the Higgs boson has a mass below the LEP2 lower limit of 114.4 GeV. If true, this suggests that the dominant Higgs decay is nonstandard while the production cross sections remain unmodified. We consider the possibility of nonstandard Higgs decays in the language of On-Shell Effective Theories (OSETs), and discuss a little considered class of Higgs decays, with a topology of both visible and missing energy. We study existing LEP constraints on such decays, and find that such decays would in general be allowed experimentally for ~ 100 GeV mass…
We consider charged Higgs and $W'$ gauge boson contributions to the quasielastic scattering $ν_τ+ n \rightarrow τ^- + p$ and $\barν_τ+ p \rightarrow τ^+ + n$ . These effects modify the standard model cross section for these processes and thus impact the extraction of the neutrino mixing angles $θ_{23}$ and $θ_{13}$ . We include form factor effects in our calculations and find the deviation of the actual mixing angle from the measured one, assuming the standard model cross section, can be significant and can depend on the energy of the neutrino.
We determine the contribution to the $S$ and $T$ parameters coming from extensions of the standard model featuring a light nonstandard-like Higgs particle. We neatly separate, using the Landau gauge, the contribution from the purely nonstandard Higgs sector, from the one due to the interplay of this sector with the standard model. If the nonstandard Higgs sector derives from a new type of near conformal dynamics, the formalism allows to precisely link the intrinsic underlying contribution with the experimentally relevant parameters.
We discuss the phenomenology of many Higgs doublet model - the model where each Higgs isodoublet couples with each own quark and lepton with relatively big Yukawa coupling constants. Namely, we discuss the discovery potential of the Higgs bosons at LHC and find lower mass limits on nonstandard Higgs bosons from FNAL data.
In a wide class of extensions of the Standard Model there is a scalar resonance with the quantum numbers of the usual Higgs boson but with different couplings to fermions and gauge bosons. Using an effective Lagrangian description, we examine the phenomenology of such a generic nonstandard Higgs boson at the LHC. In particular, we determine the circumstances under which such a particle can be observed in its $ZZ$ decay mode and distinguished from the Higgs boson of the Standard Model. We briefly comment on the energy scale effectively probed at the LHC, if the nonstandard nature of an observed…
We reinterpret $W'$, $Z'$ and Higgs searches at the LHC in terms of a model with nonuniversal $V'$ couplings to fermions in order to gauge how well these searches can be applied outside the (simplified) scenarios for which they were optimized. In particular, we consider bounds from $V'$ searches in final states $ττ$, $eν$, $ll$ and $t b$, and discuss the impact of width effects. We then show that decays of the type $V' \rightarrow V h$ yield additional bounds on the heavy vector masses and, in the case of a discovery, provide an important probe of the heavy sector. Finally, we match the low en…
We show that in Composite Higgs models, the coupling of the Higgs resonance to a pair of $W$ bosons is weaker than the corresponding Standard Model coupling, provided the Higgs arises from electroweak doublets only. This is partly due to the effects of the nonlinear realization of the chiral symmetries at the compositeness scale.
We consider the exotic decays of the SM-like Higgs state within the E6 inspired supersymmetric (SUSY) models. In these models the lightest SUSY particle (LSP) can be substantially lighter than 1 eV forming hot dark matter in the Universe. The next--to--lightest SUSY particle (NLSP) also tend to be light. We argue that the NLSP with GeV scale mass may lead to the substantial branching ratio of the nonstandard decays of the SM-like Higgs boson into NLSPs.
We study the nonstandard decays of the lightest Higgs state within the Exceptional Supersymmetric Standard Model (E6SSM). We argued that the SM--like Higgs boson can decay predominantly into dark matter particles while its branching ratios into SM particles varies from 2% to 4%. This scenario also implies the presence of other relatively light Inert chargino and neutralino states in the particle spectrum with masses below 200 GeV. We argue that in this case the decays of the lightest Higgs boson into l^{+} l^{-} + X may play an essential role in the Higgs searches.
We examine the constraints coming from incorporating the full Standard Model gauge symmetry into the effective field theory description of flavor processes, using semileptonic decays as paradigmatic examples. Depending on the dynamics triggering electroweak symmetry breaking, different patterns of correlations between the Wilson coefficients arise. Interestingly, this implies that flavor experiments are capable of shedding light upon the nature of the Higgs boson without actually requiring Higgs final states. Furthermore, the observed correlations can simplify model-independent analyses of the…
This review summarizes the motivations for and phenomenological consequences of nonstandard Higgs boson decays, with emphasis on final states containing a pair of non-Standard-Model particles that subsequently decay to Standard Model particles. Typically these non-Standard-Model particles are part of a ``hidden'' sector, for example a pair of neutral Higgs bosons or a pair of unstable neutralinos. We emphasize that such decays allow for a Higgs substantially below the Standard Model Higgs LEP limit of 114 GeV. This in turn means that the ``fine-tuning'' problems of many Beyond the Standard Mod…

We compute the fully differential rate for the Higgs-boson decay $h\to Z\ell^+\ell^-$, with $Z\to\ell^{'+}\ell^{'-}$. For these processes we assume the most general matrix elements within an effective Lagrangian framework. The electroweak chiral Lagrangian we employ assumes minimal particle content and Standard Model gauge symmetries, but is otherwise completely general. We discuss how information on new physics in the decay form factors may be obtained that is inaccessible in the dilepton-mass spectrum integrated over angular variables. The form factors are related to the coefficients of the …
We evaluate the prospects for detecting a non-standard light Higgs boson with a significant branching ratio to two photons, in Run II of the Fermilab Tevatron. We derive the reach for several channels: $2γ$ inclusive, $2γ+1$ jet and $2γ+2$ jets. We present the expected Run II limits on the branching ratio of $h\toγγ$ as a function of the Higgs mass, for the case of ``bosonic'', as well as ``topcolor'' Higgs bosons.
We present a novel method to discover the Higgs boson in new physics event samples at the LHC. Our technique applies to broad classes of models where the Higgs has a significant branching fraction to b-bbar. We exploit the recently developed techniques for discovering a boosted Higgs using jet substructure. Our requirements of new physics are quite general: there must be features in the new physics event sample that allow a clean separation from standard model background, and there should be Higgs bosons produced in association with the new physics. We demonstrate that this method superbly fin…
We study the implications of non-standard Higgs Yukawa couplings to light quarks on Higgs-portal dark matter phenomenology. Saturating the present experimental bounds on up-quark, down-quark, or strange-quark Yukawa couplings, the predicted direct dark matter detection scattering rate can increase by up to four orders of magnitude. The effect on the dark matter annihilation cross section, on the other hand, is subleading unless the dark matter is very light -- a scenario that is already excluded by measurements of the Higgs invisible decay width. We investigate the expected size of corrections…
We consider Higgs boson pair production at a future proton collider with centre-of-mass energy of 100 TeV, focusing on rare final states that include a bottom-anti-bottom quark pair and multiple isolated leptons: $hh \rightarrow (b\bar{b}) + n \ell + X$, $n = \{2,4\}$, $X = \{ E_T^\mathrm{miss}, γ, -\}$. We construct experimental search strategies for observing the process through these channels and make suggestions on the desired requirements for the detector design of the future collider.
The Higgs boson may decay predominantly into a hidden sector, producing lepton jets instead of the standard Higgs signatures. We propose a search strategy for such a signal at hadron colliders. A promising channel is the associated production of the Higgs with a Z or W, where the dominant background is Z or W plus QCD jets. The lepton jets can be discriminated from QCD jets by cutting on the electromagnetic fraction and charge ratio. The former is the fraction of jet energy deposited in the electromagnetic calorimeter and the latter is the ratio of energy carried by charged particles to the el…
Many models of electroweak symmetry breaking have an additional light pseudoscalar. If the Higgs boson can decay to a new pseudoscalar, LEP searches for the Higgs can be significantly altered and the Higgs can be as light as 86 GeV. Discovering the Higgs boson in these models is challenging when the pseudoscalar is lighter than 10 GeV because it decays dominantly into tau leptons. In this paper, we discuss discovering the Higgs in a subdominant decay mode where one of the pseudoscalars decays to a pair of muons. This search allows for potential discovery of a cascade-decaying Higgs boson with …
The Twin Higgs mechanism keeps the scalar sector of the Standard Model (SM) natural while remaining consistent with the non-observation of new colored particles at the Large Hadron Collider (LHC). In this construction the heavy twin Higgs boson provides a portal between the SM particles and the twin sector, but is quite challenging to discover at colliders. In the Fraternal Twin Higgs setup, where light twin quarks are absent, we study a novel discovery channel for the heavy twin Higgs boson by considering its decay to a pair of light Higgs bosons, one of which subsequently decays to glueball …
We analyze the prospects of observing relatively light charged Higgs bosons ($h^{\pm}$) in their decays via $h^{-} \to s \bar c + s \bar u$ at the upcoming Future Circular Collider in hadron-electron mode (FCC-eh) with $\sqrt s \approx 3.5$ TeV. Assuming that the intermediate Higgs boson ($h_2$) is Standard Model (SM)-like, we study the production of $e^- b \to ν_e h^{-} b$ (also $b$ could be $\bar b$ in both initial and final states) in the framework of the Next-to-Minimal Supersymmetric Standard Model (NMSSM). We consider constraints from Dark Matter (DM), super-particle and the Higgs boson …
We study the decays of the lightest Higgs boson within the exceptional supersymmetric (SUSY) standard model (E6SSM). The E6SSM predicts three families of Higgs-like doublets plus three SM singlets that carry U(1)_{N} charges. One family of Higgs-like doublets and one SM singlet develop vacuum expectation values. The fermionic partners of other Higgs-like fields and SM singlets form inert neutralino and chargino states. Two lightest inert neutralinos tend to be the lightest and next-to-lightest SUSY particles (LSP and NLSP). The considered model can account for the dark matter relic abundance i…
In this thesis, we investigate the implications of the LHC Higgs data on different BSM scenarios. Since the data seem to agree with the SM expectations, any nonstandard couplings will be strongly constrained. First we investigate, in a model independent way, the constraints on the nonstandard Higgs couplings with the fermions and the vector bosons in view of high energy unitarity and the measured value of the Higgs to diphoton signal strength. Then we concentrate on a particular BSM scenario, namely, the two Higgs-doublet models (2HDMs). Consistency of the Higgs data with the corresponding SM …
We discuss the impact of the presence of a charged Higgs and a $W'$ gauge boson on the tau-neutrino nucleon scattering $ν_τ+ N \rightarrow τ^- + X$ and $\barν_τ+ N \rightarrow τ^+ + X$. We show the effect of the new physics on the three subprocesses quasielastic, $Δ$-resonance, and deep inelastic scattering. The measurement of the atmospheric and reactor mixing angles $θ_{23}$ and $θ_{13}$, respectively, relies on the standard model cross section of the above processes if they have been measured in the appearance channels $ν_μ\rightarrow ν_τ$ and $\barν_e \rightarrow \barν_τ$ ($ν_e \rightarrow…
We carry out an event generator based study to evaluate the usefulness of the the exclusive signature ``$e^\pm (μ^\pm) + 2$ bottom jets'' in discovering the Higgs boson at the Tevatron. Using an event generator, we show that with enough luminosity, one should be able to detect the Higgs boson up to the mass of about 130 GeV. We consider a slightly modified version of the above signature that includes one extra jet. This new signature is more useful because it increases the number of signal events significantly.
The prospects of detecting neutral Higgs bosons in the minimal supersymmetric model via their decays into muon pairs at the LHC are investigated. The CMS detector performance is adopted for a realistic study of observability. It is found that the muon pair decay mode might provide a very promising channel to search for the neutral Higgs bosons of minimal supersymmetry. This channel will allow precise mass reconstruction for neutral Higgs bosons.
We present a qualitatively new approach to discover Higgs bosons of the MSSM at the LHC using jet substructure techniques applied to boosted Higgs decays. These techniques are ideally suited to the MSSM, since the lightest Higgs boson overwhelmingly decays to $b\bar{b}$ throughout the entire parameter space, while the heavier neutral Higgs bosons, if light enough to be produced in a cascade, also predominantly decay to $b\bar{b}$. The Higgs production we consider arises from superpartner production where superpartners cascade decay into Higgs bosons. We study this mode of Higgs production for …
A possible composite nature of the Higgs could be revealed at the early stage of the LHC, by analyzing the channels where the Higgs is produced from the decay of a heavy fermion. The Higgs production from a singly-produced heavy bottom, in particular, proves to be a promising channel. For a value λ=3 of the Higgs coupling to a heavy bottom, for example, we find that, considering a 125 GeV Higgs which decays into a pair of b-quarks, a discovery is possible at the 8 TeV LHC with 30 fb^{-1} if the heavy bottom is lighter than roughly 530 GeV (while an observation is possible for heavy bottom mass…
The measured rate for D_s -> l nu decays, where l is a muon or tau, is larger than the standard model prediction, which relies on lattice QCD, at the 3.8 sigma level. We discuss how robust the theoretical prediction is, and we show that the discrepancy with experiment may be explained by a charged Higgs boson or a leptoquark.
The process e+e- --> W+W- provides a valuable laboratory to test the Standard Model (SM) and to search for new physics. The most general helicity amplitudes for this process require the introduction of nine form-factors which we calculate in the context of SU(2) X U(1) gauge-invariant extensions of the SM. The contributions of new physics are parametrized via an effective Lagrangian constructed from the light fields. Because the mechanism of electroweak symmetry-breaking remains an open problem we consider both the effective Lagrangian with a linearly realized Higgs sector, i.e. with a light p…
We suggest that the Higgs could be discovered at the Tevatron or the LHC (perhaps at the LHCb detector) through decays with one or more substantially displaced vertices from the decay of new neutral particles. This signal may occur with a small but measurable branching fraction in the recently-described ``hidden valley'' models, hep-ph/0604261; weakly-coupled models with multiple scalars, including those of hep-ph/0511250, can also provide such signals, potentially with a much larger branching fraction. This decay channel may extend the Higgs mass reach for the Tevatron. Unusual combinations o…
We determine the discovery potential of the Large Hadron Collider (LHC) at 13 TeV center-of-mass energy for a heavy scalar resonance in the dilepton channel. In particular, we consider the singlet-like heavy mass eigenstate of a mixed two Higgs doublet and scalar singlet model in the $U(1)_{B-L}$ extension of the Standard Model. We find that, despite the small coupling of the singlet scalar with the doublets, this heavy scalar can be discovered with 5$σ$ at the LHC with integrated luminosities of $\sim 300$ to $1400$ fb$^{-1}$ in the mass range between 500 GeV and 1 TeV.
In the standard model (SM), pair production rate of Higgs boson at the Large Hadron Collider (LHC) is quite low. One usually think that it is extremely important for the measurement of triple Higgs coupling at the high luminosity LHC. In this paper, we propose to search for the extra Higgs boson (denoted as $S$) utilizing pair production of the SM-like Higgs boson ($H$) which was discovered in July, 2012.The pair production of $H$ can be huge due to the resonant production of heavy scalar $S$, namely $PP \rightarrow S \rightarrow HH$. The couplings of $H$ with weak gauge boson are similar to o…
A Higgs boson lighter than 2 m_W that decays mostly into invisible channels (e.g., dark matter particles) is theoretically well-motivated. We study the prospects for discovery of such an invisible Higgs, h_inv, at the LHC and the Tevatron in three production modes: (1) in association with a Z, (2) through Weak Boson Fusion (WBF), and (3) accompanied by a jet. In the Z+h_inv channel, we show that the LHC can yield a discovery signal above 5 sigma with 10 fb-1 of integrated luminosity for a Higgs mass of 120 GeV. With 30 fb-1 the discovery reach extends up to a Higgs mass of 160 GeV. We also stu…
We investigate the prospects for the discovery at the CERN Large Hadron Collider or at the Fermilab Tevatron of neutral Higgs bosons through the channel where the Higgs are produced together with a single bottom quark and the Higgs decays into a pair of tau leptons, $bg \to bϕ^0 \to bτ^+τ^-, ϕ^0 = h^0, H^0, A^0$. We work within the framework of the minimal supersymmetric model. The dominant physics background from the production of $bτ^+τ^-$, $jτ^+τ^-$ ($j = g, u, d, s, c$), $b\bar{b}W^+W^-$, $W+2j$ and $Wbj$ is calculated with realistic acceptance cuts and efficiencies. Promising results are …
Solutions to the hierarchy problem usually require top partners. In standard SUSY or composite Higgs theories, the partners carry SM color and are becoming increasingly constrained by LHC searches. However, theories like Folded SUSY (FS), Twin Higgs (TH) and Quirky Little Higgs (QLH) introduce uncolored top partners, which can be SM singlets or carry electroweak charge. Their small production cross section left doubt as to whether the LHC can effectively probe such scenarios. Typically, these partners are charged under their own mirror color gauge group. In FS and QLH, the absence of light mir…
We investigate the prospects for the discovery at the CERN Large Hadron Collider of a neutral Higgs boson produced with one bottom quark followed by Higgs decay into a muon pair. We work within the framework of the minimal supersymmetric model. The dominant physics background from the production of $b μ^+μ^-$, $jμ^+μ^-$, j=g,u,d,s,c, and $b {\bar b} W^+W^-$ is calculated with realistic acceptance cuts. Promising results are found for the CP-odd pseudoscalar ($A^0$) and the heavier CP-even scalar ($H^0$) Higgs bosons with masses up to 600 GeV. This discovery channel with one energetic bottom qu…
We study the conditions required to make the 2HDM scalar potential stable up to the Planck scale. The lightest CP-even scalar is assumed to have been found at the LHC and the {\em alignment limit} is imposed in view of the LHC Higgs data. We find that ensuring stability up to scales $\gtrsim 10^{10}$~GeV necessitates the introduction of a soft breaking parameter in the theory. Even then, some interesting correlations between the nonstandard masses and the soft breaking parameter need to be satisfied. Consequently, a 2HDM becomes completely determined by only two nonstandard parameters, namely,…
We demonstrate that light charged and extra neutral scalars in the (100-200) GeV mass range pass the potentially dangerous flavor constraints in a particular class of two-Higgs-doublet model which has appropriately suppressed flavor-changing neutral currents at tree level. We study their decay branching ratios into various fermionic final states and comment on the possibility of their detection in the collider experiments. We also remark on how their trademark decay signatures can be used to discriminate them from the light nonstandard scalars predicted in other two-Higgs-doublet models.
We investigate the prospects for the discovery of a neutral Higgs boson produced with one bottom quark followed by Higgs decay into a pair of bottom quarks at the CERN Large Hadron Collider (LHC) and the Fermilab Tevatron Collider. We work within the framework of the minimal supersymmetric standard model. The dominant physics background is calculated with realistic acceptance cuts and efficiencies including the production of $bb\bar{b}$, $\bar{b}b\bar{b}$, $jb\bar{b}$ ($j = g, q, \bar{q}$; $q = u, d, s, c$), $t\bar{t} \to b\bar{b}jj\ellν$, and $t\bar{t} \to b\bar{b}jjjj$. Promising results are…
We have studied the potential of the CDF and DZero experiments to discover a low-mass Standard Model Higgs boson, during Run II, via the processes $p\bar{p}$ -> WH -> $\ellνb\bar{b}$, $p\bar{p}$ -> ZH -> $\ell^{+}\ell^{-}b\bar{b}$ and $p\bar{p}$ -> ZH ->$ν\barν b\bar{b}$. We show that a multivariate analysis using neural networks, that exploits all the information contained within a set of event variables, leads to a significant reduction, with respect to {\em any} equivalent conventional analysis, in the integrated luminosity required to find a Standard Model Higgs boson in the mass range 90 …
The LHC did not discover new particles beyond the Standard Model Higgs boson at 7 and 8 TeV, or in the first data samples at 13 TeV. However, the complementary nature of physics with $e^+e^-$ collisions still offers many interesting scenarios in which new particles can be discovered at the ILC. These scenarios take advantage of the capability of $e^+e^-$ collisions to observe particles with missing energy and small mass differences, to observe mono-photon events with precisely controlled backgrounds, and to observe the full range of exotic decay modes of the Higgs boson. The searches that an $…
The triplet scalars $(Δ=Δ^{++},Δ^{+},Δ^{0})$, utilized in the so-called Type-II seesaw model to explain the lightness of neutrinos, would generate nonstandard interactions (NSI) for neutrino propagating in matter. We investigate the prospects to probe these interactions in long baseline neutrino oscillation experiments. We analyze the upper bounds that the proposed DUNE experiment might set on the nonstandard parameters and numerically derive upper bounds, as function of the lightest neutrino mass, on the ratio the mass $M_Δ$ of the triplet scalars and strength $|λ_ϕ|$ of the coupling $ϕϕΔ$ of…
We analyze the phenomenology of the top-pion and top-Higgs states in models with strong top dynamics, and translate the present LHC searches for the Standard Model Higgs into bounds on these scalar states. We explore the possibility that the new state at a mass of approximately 125 GeV observed at the LHC is consistent with a neutral pseudoscalar top-pion state. We demonstrate that a neutral pseudoscalar top-pion can generate the diphoton signal at the observed rate. However, the region of model parameter space where this is the case does not correspond to classic topcolor-assisted technicolor…
The concept of chirality is extended to the Minimal Supersymmetric Standard Model (MSSM) and the mu term is forbidden by a gauged U(1)' symmetry. R-parity automatically emerges after symmetry breaking, suppressing proton decay and protecting the LSP. Exotics charged under the SM pose a challenge to traditional SU(5) unification, but unification is still implemented in deconstructed GUTs. Because of the multitude of additional states to the MSSM, the Z' has a large width, and the SM background, neglected in previous theoretical studies, becomes important for Z' discovery. As a result, the LHC r…
The existence of a second Higgs doublet in Nature could lead to a cosmological first order electroweak phase transition and explain the origin of the matter-antimatter asymmetry in the Universe. We obtain the spectrum and properties of the new scalars $H_0$, $A_0$ and $H^{\pm}$ that signal such a phase transition, and show that the observation of the decay $A_0 \rightarrow H_0 Z$ at LHC would be a `smoking gun' signature of these scenarios. We analyze the LHC search prospects for this decay in the $\ell \ell b\bar{b}$ and $\ell \ell W^{+} W^{-}$ final states, arguing that current data may be s…
We examine the impact of the expected reach of the LHC and the XENON1T experiments on the parameter space of the minimal classically scale invariant extension of the standard model (SM), where all the mass scales are induced dynamically by means of the Coleman-Weinberg mechanism. In this framework, the SM content is enlarged by the addition of one complex gauge singlet scalar with a scale invariant and $CP$-symmetric potential. The massive pseudoscalar component, protected by the $CP$-symmetry, forms a viable dark matter candidate, and three flavors of the right-handed Majorana neutrinos are i…
Techni-dilaton (TD) is predicted in walking technicolor (WTC) arising as a pseudo Nambu-Goldstone boson associated with the approximate scale symmetry spontaneously broken by techni-fermion condensation. The TD mass is therefore smaller than those of other techni-hadrons on order of several TeVs, small enough to be within reach of the current LHC search. We present a new method to derive the TD couplings directly from the Ward-Takahashi identities, which enables us to explicitly calculate the quantities relevant to the TD LHC signatures. To set definite benchmarks, we take one-doublet and one-…
We discuss complementarity of discovery reaches of heavier neutral Higgs bosons and charged Higgs bosons at the LHC and the International Linear Collider (ILC) in two Higgs doublet models (2HDMs). We perform a comprehensive analysis on their production and decay processes for all types of Yukawa interaction under the softly-broken discrete symmetry which is introduced to avoid flavour changing neutral currents, and we investigate parameter spaces of discovering additional Higgs bosons at the ILC beyond the LHC reach. We find that the 500 GeV run of the ILC with the integrated luminosity of 500…
Although the 125 GeV Higgs boson discovered at the LHC is often heralded as the origin of mass, it may not in fact be the origin of Yukawa couplings. In alternative models, Yukawa couplings may instead arise from a seesaw type mechanism involving the mixing of Standard Model (SM) chiral fermions with new vector-like fermions, controlled by the vacuum expectation value (VEV) of a new complex Higgs singlet field $\langle Φ\rangle$. For example, the largest third family $(t,b)$ quark Yukawa couplings may be forbidden by a $U(1)'$ gauge or global symmetry, broken by $\langle Φ\rangle$, and generat…
Little Higgs theory naturally predicts a light Higgs boson whose most important discovery channel at the LHC is the di-photon signal $pp\to h\to γγ$. In this work we perform a comparative study for this signal in some typical little Higgs models, namely the littlest Higgs model (LH), two littlest Higgs models with T-parity (named LHT-I and LHT-II) and the simplest little Higgs modes (SLH). We find that compared with the Standard Model prediction, the di-photon signal rate is always suppressed and the suppression extent can be quite different for different models. The suppression is mild ($\lsi…
Discovering CP-violating effects in the Higgs sector would constitute an indisputable sign of physics beyond the Standard Model. We derive constraints on the CP-violating Higgs-boson couplings to top and bottom quarks as well as to tau leptons from low-energy bounds on electric dipole moments, resumming large logarithms when necessary. The present and future projections of the sensitivities and comparisons with the LHC constraints are provided. Non-trivial constraints are possible in the future, even if the Higgs boson only couples to the third-generation fermions.
The LHC sensitivity to an anomalous Higgs coupling to the top quark in the Higgs-top associated production is analyzed. Thanks to the strong destructive interference in the t-channel for standard model couplings, this process can be very sensitive to both the magnitude and the sign of a nonstandard top-Higgs coupling. We analyze cross sections and the main irreducible backgrounds for the $H \to γγ$ decay channel. Sensitivities to an anomalous sign for the top Yukawa coupling are found to be large. In particular, at \sqrt{s}=14 TeV, assuming a universal rescaling in the Yukawa sector, a parton-…
The recent observation of a Higgs boson at the LHC and experimental confirmation of nonvanishing neutrino-mixing parameter sin(theta_13) offer important means to test physics beyond the standard model. We explore this within the context of the scotogenic model, in which neutrinos acquire mass radiatively via one-loop interactions with dark matter. Starting with a two-parameter neutrino-mixing matrix which is consistent with the latest neutrino-oscillation data at the one-sigma level, we derive different sets of solutions for the Yukawa couplings of the nonstandard particles in the model and us…
We present discovery signatures of techni-dilaton (TD) at LHC. The TD was predicted long ago as a pseudo Nambu-Goldstone boson (pNGB) associated with the spontaneous breaking of the approximate scale symmetry in the walking technicolor (WTC) (initially dubbed "scale-invariant technicolor"). Being pNGB, the TD should have a mass M_TD lighter than other techni-hadrons like techni-rho meson; It has recently been estimated to be M_TD ~= 500-600 GeV for the typical WTC model, which is well in the discovery range of the ongoing LHC experiment. Noting that all the TD couplings to the standard model (…
