Conformal Ricci and conformal matter collineations for the combination of two perfect fluids in General Relativity are investigated. We study the existence of timelike and spacelike conformal Ricci and matter collineations by introducing the kinematical and dynamical properties of such fluids and using the Einstein field equations. Some recent studies on conformal collineations are extended and new results are found. It is worth mentioning that we recover all the previous results a special cases.
Ricci collineations and Ricci inheritance collineations of Friedmann-Robertson-Walker spacetimes are considered. When the Ricci tensor is non-degenerate, it is shown that the spacetime always admits a fifteen parameter group of Ricci inheritance collineations; this is the maximal possible dimension for spacetime manifolds. The general form of the vector generating the symmetry is exhibited. It is also shown, in the generic case, that the group of Ricci collineations is six-dimensional and coincides with the isometry group. In special cases the spacetime may admit either one or four proper Ricc…
The expression of the vector field generator of a Ricci Collineation for diagonal, spherically symmetric and non-degenerate Ricci tensors is obtained. The resulting expressions show that the time and radial first derivatives of the components of the Ricci tensor can be used to classify the collineation, leading to 64 families. Some examples illustrate how to obtain the collineation vector.
We study the consequences of timelike and spaccelike conformal Ricci and conformal matter collineations for anisotropic fluid in the context of General Relativity. Necessary and sufficient conditions are derived for a spacetime with anisotropic fluid to admit conformal Ricci and conformal matter collineations parallel to u^a and x^a. These conditions for timelike and spacelike conformal Ricci and conformal matter collineations for anisotropic fluid reduce to the conditions of perfect fluid when the heat flux and the traceless anisotropic stress tensor vanish. Further, for $α=0$ (the conformal …
It is shown that the results of the paper by Contreras et al. [Contreras, G., Nunez, L. A., Percoco, U. "Ricci Collineations for Non-degenerate, Diagonal and Spherically Symmetric Ricci Tensors" (2000) Gen. Rel. Grav. 32, 285-294] concerning the Ricci Collineations in spherically symmetric space-times with non-degenerate and diagonal Ricci tensor do not cover all possible cases. Furthermore the complete algebra of Ricci Collineations of certain Robertson-Walker metrics of vanishing spatial curvature are given.
Conformal collineations (a generalization of conformal motion) and Ricci inheritance collineations, defined by $£_ξR_{ab}=2αR_{ab}$, for string cloud and string fluids in general relativity are studied. By investigating the kinematical and dynamical properties of such fluids and using the field equations, some recent studies on the restrictions imposed by conformal collineations are extended, and new results are found.
We present the general structure of proper Ricci Collineations (RC) for type B warped space-times. Within this framework, we give a detailed description of the most general proper RC for spherically symmetric metrics. As examples, static spherically symmetric and Friedmann-Robertson-Walker space-times are considered.
We study the consequences of the existence of timelike and spacelike Ricci collineation vectors (RCVs) for string fluid in the context of general relativity. Necessary and sufficient conditions are derived for a space-time with string fluid to admit a timelike RCV, parallel to $u^a$, and a spacelike RCV, parallel to $n^a$. In these cases, some results obtained are discussed.
It is well known that every Killing vector is a Ricci and Matter collineation. Therefore the metric, the Ricci tensor and the energy-momentum tensor are all members of a large family of second order symmetric tensors which are invariant under a common group of symmetries. This family is described by a generic metric which is defined from the symmetry group of the space-time metric. The proper Ricci and Matter (inheritance) collineations are the (conformal) Killing vectors of the generic metric which are not (conformal) Killing vectors of the space-time metric. Using this observation we compute…
A complete study of the structure of Ricci collineations for type B warped spacetimes is carried out. This study can be used as a method to obtain these symetries in such spacetimes. Special cases as 2+2 reducible spacetimes, and plane and spherical symmetric spacetimes are considered specifically.
A new method is presented for the determination of Ricci Collineations (RC) and Matter Collineations (MC) of a given spacetime, in the cases where the Ricci tensor and the energy momentum tensor are non-degenerate and have a similar form with the metric. This method reduces the problem of finding the RCs and the MCs to that of determining the KVs whereas at the same time uses already known results on the motions of the metric. We employ this method to determine all hypersurface homogeneous locally rotationally symmetric spacetimes, which admit proper RCs and MCs. We also give the corresponding…
Ricci collineations of the Bianchi types I and III, and Kantowski-Sachs space- times are classified according to their Ricci collineation vector (RCV) field of the form (i)-(iv) one component of $ξ^a (x^b)$ is nonzero, (v)-(x) two components of $ξ^a (x^b)$ are nonzero, and (xi)-(xiv) three components of $ξ^a (x^b)$ are nonzero. Their relation with isometries of the space-times is established. In case (v), when $det(R_{ab}) = 0$, some metrics are found under the time transformation, in which some of these metrics are known, and the other ones new. Finally, the family of contracted Ricci colline…
We present a counter example to a theorem given by Amir {\em et al.} J. Math. Phys. {\bf 35}, 3005 (1994). We also comment on a misleading statements of the same reference.
We derive matter collineations for some static spherically symmetric spacetimes and compare the results with Killing, Ricci and Curvature symmetries. We conclude that matter and Ricci collineations are not, in general, the same.
We present two counterexamples to the paper by Carot et al. in Gen. Rel. Grav. 1997, 29, 1223 and show that the results obtained are correct but not general.
Static space times with maximal symmetric transverse spaces are classified according to their Ricci collineations. These are investigated for non-degenerate Ricci tensor ($det.(R_α) \neq 0$). It turns out that the only collineations admitted by these spaces can be ten, seven, six or four. Some new metrics admitting proper Ricci collineations are also investigated.
Ricci and contracted Ricci collineations of the Bianchi type II, VIII, and IX space-times, associated with the vector fields of the form (i) one component of $ξ^a(x^b)$ is different from zero and (ii) two components of $ξ^a(x^b)$ are different from zero, for $a,b=1,2,3,4$, are presented. In subcase (i.b), which is $ξ^a= (0,ξ^2(x^a),0,0)$, some known solutions are found, and in subcase (i.d), which is $ξ^a =(0,0,0,ξ^4(x^a))$, choosing $S(t)=const.\times R(t)$, the Bianchi type II, VIII, and IX space-times is reduced to the Robertson-Walker metric.
Conformal Ricci collineations of static spherically symmetric spacetimes are studied. The general form of the vector fields generating conformal Ricci collineations is found when the Ricci tensor is non-degenerate, in which case the number of independent conformal Ricci collineations is \emph{fifteen}; the maximum number for 4-dimensional manifolds. In the degenerate case it is found that the static spherically symmetric spacetimes always have an infinite number of conformal Ricci collineations. Some examples are provided which admit non-trivial conformal Ricci collineations, and perfect fluid…
We derive matter collineations of the Bianchi types I, II, III, VIII and IX, and Kantowski-Sachs spacetimes. It is found that matter collineations turn out similar to Ricci collineations with different constranit equations. We solve the constraint equation for a particular case and obtain three cosmological models which represent perfect fluid dust solutions.
As a rule in General Relativity the spacetime metric fixes the Einstein tensor and through the Field Equations (FE) the energy-momentum tensor. However one cannot write the FE explicitly until a class of observers has been considered. Every class of observers defines a decomposition of the energy-momentum tensor in terms of the dynamical variables energy density ($μ$), the isotropic pressure ($p$), the heat flux $q^a$ and the traceless anisotropic pressure tensor $π_{ab}$. The solution of the FE requires additional assumptions among the dynamical variables known with the generic name equations…
In this paper, we present a complete classification of Locally Rotationally Symmetric (LRS) Bianchi type I spacetimes according to their Conformal Ricci Collineations (CRCs). When the Ricci tensor is non-degenerate, a general form of the vector field generating CRCs is found, subject to some integrability conditions. Solving the integrability conditions in different cases, it is found that the LRS Bianchi type I spacetimes admit 7, 10, 11 or 15- dimensional Lie algebra of CRCs for the choice of non-degenerate Ricci tensor. Moreover, it is found that these spacetimes admit infinite number of CR…
The infinitesimal transformations that leave invariant a two-covariant symmetric tensor are studied. The interest of these symmetry transformations lays in the fact that this class of tensors includes the energy-momentum and Ricci tensors. We find that in most cases the class of infinitesimal generators of these transformations is a finite dimensional Lie algebra but also, in some cases exhibiting a higher degree of degeneracy, this class is infinite dimensional and may fail to be a Lie algebra.
The spacetime homogeneous Gödel-type spacetimes which have four classes of metrics are studied according to their matter collineations. The obtained results are compared with Killing vectors and Ricci collineations. It is found that these spacetimes have infinite number of matter collineations in degenerate case, i.e. det$(T_{ab}) = 0$, and do not admit proper matter collineations in non-degenerate case, i.e. det$(T_{ab}) \ne 0$. The degenerate case has the new constraints on the parameters $m$ and $w$ which characterize the causality features of the Gödel-type spacetimes.
The spherically symmetric static spacetimes are classified according to their matter collineations. These are studied when the energy-momentum tensor is degenerate and also when it is non-degenerate. We have found a case where the energy-momentum tensor is degenerate but the group of matter collineations is finite. For the non-degenerate case, we obtain either {\it four}, {\it five}, {\it six} or {\it ten} independent matter collineations in which four are isometries and the rest are proper. We conclude that the matter collineations coincide with the Ricci collineations but the constraint equa…
Considering the degenerate and non-degenerate cases, we provide a complete classification of static plane symmetric spacetimes according to conformal Ricci collineations (CRCs) and conformal matter collineations (CMCs). In case of non-degenerate Ricci tensor, a general form of vector field generating CRCs is found in terms of unknown functions of t and x, subject to some integrability conditions. The integrability conditions are then solved in different cases depending upon the nature of Ricci tensor and it is concluded that static plane symmetric spacetimes possess 7, 10 or 15-dimensional Lie…
Though the Weyl tensor is a linear combination of the curvature tensor, Ricci tensor and Ricci scalar, it does not have all and only the Lie symmetries of these tensors since it is possible, in principle, that "asymmetries cancel". Here we investigate if, when and how the symmetries can be different. It is found that we can obtain a metric with a finite dimensional Lie algebra of Weyl symmetries that properly contains the Lie algebra of curvature symmetries. There is no example found for the converse requirement. It is speculated that there may be a fundamental reason for this lack of "duality…
Conformal matter collineations of the energy-momentum tensor for a general spherically symmetric static spacetime are studied. The general form of these collineations is found when the energy-momentum tensor is non-degenerate, and the maximum number of independent conformal matter collineations is \emph{fifteen}. In the degenerate case of the energy-momentum tensor it is found that these collineations have infinite degrees of freedom. In some subcases of degenerate energy-momentum, the Ricci tensor is non-degenerate, that is, there exist non-degenerate Ricci inheritance collineations.
By extending the notion of Lie derivative to distribution-valued tensor fields of order $m$, Lie derivatives with respect to $C^k$ vector fields, $k\geqslant m+1$, can be shown to be well defined. Geometric symmetries, definable in terms of these Lie derivatives, can then be considered. In particular, for spacetimes of low regularity, geometric symmetries generated by vector fields of regularity as low as $C^1$ are definable. We find that the conformal algebra of the impulsive plane wave spacetime (with $+$ polarization) described by the continuous Baldwin-Jeffery-Rosen form of the metric has …
All diagonal proper Bianchi I space-times are determined which admit certain important symmetries. It is shown that for Homotheties, Conformal motions and Kinematic Self-Similarities the resulting space-times are defined explicitly in terms of a set of parameters whereas Affine Collineations, Ricci Collineations and Curvature Collineations, if they are admitted, they determine the metric modulo certain algebraic conditions. In all cases the symmetry vectors are explicitly computed. The physical and the geometrical consequences of the results are discussed and a new anisitropic fluid, physicall…
D-dimensional cosmological model describing the evolution of a multicomponent perfect fluid with variable barotropic parameters in n Ricci-flat spaces is investigated. The equations of motion are integrated for the case, when each component possesses an isotropic pressure with respect to all spaces. Exact solutions are presented in the Kasner-like form. Some explicit examples are given: 4-dimensional model with an isotropic accelerated expansion at late times and (4+d)-dimensional model describing a compactification of extra dimensions.
In the present paper we study a conformally flat generalized Ricci recurrent perfect fluid spacetime with constant Ricci scalar as a solution of modified $F(R)$-gravity theory. We show that a Robertson-Walker spacetime is generalized Ricci Recurrent if and only if it is Ricci symmetric. The perfect fluid type matter is shown to have EoS $ω=-1$. Some energy conditions are analyzed with couple of popular toy models of $F(R)$-gravity, like $F(R)= R+αR^m $ where $α, m$ are constants and $ F(R)=R+βRlnR $ where $β$ is constant. In harmony with the recent observational studies of accelerated expansio…
We consider the kinematics of specific fluid spacetimes admitting timelike congruences of Ricci Solitons. These fluids includes string cloud, string fluid, perfect fluid, radially symmetric fluid, anisotropic fluid and relativistic magneto-fluid. Results are obtained and important physical aspects are discussed.
In this work, we consider homogeneous and isotropic FRW model of the universe, filled with interacting dark matter and dark energy. The dark matter is chosen as usual in the form of dust while dark energy is holographic in nature with IR cut off at the Ricci's length and it is in the form of a perfect fluid with variable equation of state. We have chosen the interaction term of the following two types: (i) a linear combination of the matter density of the two fluids, (ii) a product of the two matter densities. For both the choices the evolution equations are transformed to an autonomous system…
The D-dimensional cosmological model on the manifold $M = R \times M_{1} \times M_{2}$ describing the evolution of 2 Einsteinian factor spaces, $M_1$ and $M_2$, in the presence of multicomponent perfect fluid source is considered. The barotropic equation of state for mass-energy densities and the pressures of the components is assumed in each space. When the number of the non Ricci-flat factor spaces and the number of the perfect fluid components are both equal to 2, the Einstein equations for the model are reduced to the generalized Emden-Fowler (second-order ordinary differential) equation, …
A cosmological model describing the evolution of $n$ Einstein spaces $(n>1)$ with $m$-component perfect-fluid matter is considered. When all spaces are Ricci-flat and for any $α$-th component the pressures in all spaces are proportional to the density: $p_{i}^{(α)} = (1- h_{i}^{(α)}) ρ^{(α)}$, $h_{i}^{(α)}$ = const, the Einstein and Wheeler-DeWitt equations are integrated in the cases: i) $m=1$, for all $h_{i}^{(α)}$; ii) $m > 1$, for some special sets of $h_{i}^{(α)}$. For $m=1$ the quantum wormhole solutions are also obtained. \\
In this paper, we study the behavior of perfect fluid and massless scalar field for homogeneous and anisotropic Bianchi type I universe model in $f(R,T)$ gravity, where $R$ is the Ricci scalar and $T$ is the trace of the energy-momentum tensor. We assume the variation law of mean Hubble parameter to obtain exact solutions of the modified field equations. The physical and kinematical quantities are discussed for both models in future evolution of the universe. We check the validity of null energy condition and conclude that our perfect fluid solution can behave like phantom model. Finally, we f…
We consider anisotropic cosmological models with an universe of dimension 4 or more, factorized into n>1 Ricci-flat spaces, containing an m-component perfect fluid of m non-interacting homogeneous minimally coupled scalar fields under special conditions. We describe the dynamics of the universe: It has a Kasner-like behaviour near the singularity and isotropizes during the expansion to infinity. Some of the considered models are integrable, and classical as well as quantum solutions are found. Some solutions produce inflation from "nothing". There exist classical asymptotically anti-de Sitter …
We give new necessary and sufficient conditions on the Weyl tensor for generalized Robertson-Walker (GRW) space-times to be perfect-fluid space-times. For GRW space-times, we determine the form of the Ricci tensor in all the O(n)-invariant subspaces provided by Gray's decomposition of the gradient of the Ricci tensor. In all but one, the Ricci tensor is Einstein or has the form of perfect fluid. We discuss the corresponding equations of state that result from the Einstein equation in dimension 4, where perfect-fluid GRW space-times are Robertson-Walker.
In this paper, we will examine the problem of violation of causality in $f(R,T)$ modified gravity, where $R$ is the Ricci scalar and $T$ is the trace of the energy-momentum tensor $T_{μν}$. We investigate the causality problem in two special cases, in the first we consider the matter content of the universe as a perfect fluid and in the second case, the matter content is a perfect fluid plus a scalar field.
The Riemann, Ricci and Einstein tensors for N-dimensional spherically symmetric spacetimes in various systems of coordinates are studied, and the general metric for conformally flat spacetimes is given. As an application, all the Friedmann-Robertson-Walker-like solutions for a perfect fluid with an equation of state $p = k ρ$ are found. Then, these solutions are used to model the gravitational collapse of a compact ball, by first cutting them along a timelike hypersurface and then joining them with asymptotically flat Vaidya solutions. It is found that when the collapse has continuous self-sim…
In this paper, we investigate spherically symmetric perfect fluid gravitational collapse in metric $f(R)$ gravity. We take non-static spherically symmetric metric in the interior region and static spherically symmetric metric in the exterior region of a star. The junction conditions between interior and exterior spacetimes are derived. The field equations in f(R) theory are solved using the assumption of constant Ricci scalar. Inserting their solution into junction conditions, the gravitational mass is found. Further, the apparent horizons and their time of formation is discussed. We conclude …
We consider a D-dimensional cosmological model describing an evolution of Ricci-flat factor spaces, M_1,...M_n (n > 2), in the presence of an m-component perfect fluid source (n > m > 1). We find characteristic vectors, related to the matter constants in the barotropic equations of state for fluid components of all factor spaces. We show that, in the case where we can interpret these vectors as the root vectors of a Lie algebra of Cartan type A_m=sl(m+1,C), the model reduces to the classical open m-body Toda chain. Using an elegant technique by Anderson (J. Math. Phys. 37 (1996) 1349) for solv…
The properties of LRS class II perfect fluid space-times are analyzed using the description of geometries in terms of the Riemann tensor and a finite number of its covariant derivatives. In this manner it is straightforward to obtain the plane and hyperbolic analogues to the spherical symmetric case. For spherically symmetric static models the set of equations is reduced to the Tolman-Oppenheimer-Volkoff equation only. Some new non-stationary and inhomogeneous solutions with shear, expansion, and acceleration of the fluid are presented. Among these are a class of temporally self-similar soluti…
We revisit the issue of the correct Lagrangian description of a perfect fluid (pressure versus minus energy density) in relation with modified gravity theories in which galactic luminous matter couples nonminimally to the Ricci scalar. These Lagrangians are only equivalent when the fluid couples minimally to gravity and not otherwise; in the presence of nonminimal coupling they give rise to two distinct theories with different predictions.
We study the evolution of a perfect--fluid sphere coupled to a scalar radiation field. By ensuring a Ricci invariant regularity as a conformally flat spacetime at the central world line we find that the fluid coupled to the scalar field satisfies the equation of state $ρ_c+3p_c=$ constant at the center of the sphere, where the energy $ρ_c$ density and the pressure $p_c$ do not necessarily contain the scalar field contribution. The fluid can be interpreted as anisotropic and radiant because of the scalar field, but it becomes perfect and non radiative at the center of the sphere. These results …
A family of black-hole solutions in the model with 1-component perfect fluid is obtained. The metric of any solution contains (n -1) Ricci-flat "internal space" metrics and for certain equations of state coincides with the metric of black brane (or black hole) solution in the model with antisymmetric form. Certain examples (e.g. imitating M2 and M5 black branes) are considered. The post-Newtonian parameters beta and gamma corresponding to the 4-dimensional section of the metric are calculated.
Self-similarity in general relativity is briefly reviewed and the differences between self-similarity of the first kind and generalized self-similarity are discussed. The covariant notion of a kinematic self-similarity in the context of relativistic fluid mechanics is defined. Various mathematical and physical properties of spacetimes admitting a kinematic self-similarity are discussed. The governing equations for perfect fluid cosmological models are introduced and a set of integrability conditions for the existence of a proper kinematic self-similarity in these models is derived. Exact solut…
We present two classes of inhomogeneous, spherically symmetric solutions of the Einstein-Maxwell-Perfect Fluid field equations with cosmological constant generalizing the Vaidya-Shah solution. Some special limits of our solution reduce to the known inhomogeneous charged perfect fluid solutions of the Einstein field equations and under some other limits we obtain new charged and uncharged solutions with cosmological constant. Uncharged solutions in particular represent cosmological models where the universe may undergo a topology change and in between is a mixture of two different Friedmann-Rob…
Recently, a new cosmological framework, dubbed Ricci Cosmology, has been proposed. Such a framework has emerged from the study of relativistic dynamics of fluids out of equilibrium in a curved background and is characterised by the presence of deviations from the equilibrium pressure in the energy-momentum tensor which are due to linear terms in the Ricci scalar and the Ricci tensor. The coefficients in front of such terms are called the second order transport coefficients and they parametrise the fluid response to the pressure terms arising from the spacetime curvature. Under the preliminary …
We consider a non-minimal coupling of a perfect fluid matter system with geometry, which the coupling function is taken to be an arbitrary function of the Ricci scalar. Due to such a coupling, the matter stress tensor is no longer conserved and there is an energy transfer between the two components. By solving the conservation equation and applying the second law of thermodynamics, we show that direction of the energy transfer depends on the equation of state of the matter fluid. In particular, a phantom fluid should loose energy with expansion of the universe. This energy reduction can avoid …
Exact solutions with an exponential behaviour of the scale factors are considered in a multidimensional cosmological model describing the dynamics of n+1 Ricci-flat factor spaces M_i in the presence of a one-component perfect fluid. The pressures in all spaces are proportional to the density: p_i = w_i ρ, i = 0,...,n. Solutions with accelerated expansion of our 3-space M_0 and a small enough variation of the gravitational constant G are found. These solutions exist for two branches of the parameter w_0. The first branch describes superstiff matter with w_0 > 1, the second one may contain phant…
We construct a compact phase space for flat FLRW spacetimes with standard matter described by a perfect fluid with a barotropic equation of state for general f(R) theories of gravity, subject to certain conditions on the function f. We then use this framework to study the behaviour of the phase space of Universes with a non-negative Ricci scalar in R + αR^n gravity. We find a number of interesting cosmological evolutions which include the possibility of an initial unstable power-law inflationary point, followed by a curvature fluid dominated phase mimicking standard radiation, then passing thr…
We show that a holographic description of four-dimensional asymptotically locally flat spacetimes is reached smoothly from the zero-cosmological-constant limit of anti-de Sitter holography. To this end, we use the derivative expansion of fluid/gravity correspondence. From the boundary perspective, the vanishing of the bulk cosmological constant appears as the zero velocity of light limit. This sets how Carrollian geometry emerges in flat holography. The new boundary data are a two-dimensional spatial surface, identified with the null infinity of the bulk Ricci-flat spacetime, accompanied with …
