We extend the Eruguin result exposed in the paper "Construction of the whole set of ordinary differential equations with a given integral curve" published in 1952 and construct a differential system in $\Bbb{R}^N$ which admits a given set of the partial integrals, in particular we study the case when theses functions are polynomials. We construct a non-Darboux integrable planar polynomial system of degree $n$ with one invariant irreducible algebraic curve $g(x,y)=0$. For this system we analyze the Darboux integrability, Poincare's problem and 16th's Hilbert problem for algebraic limit cycles.
We prove in this article the well posedness of non - linear Ordinary Differential Equations (ODE) of first and second order in Orlicz spaces with unbounded domain of definition.
An elementary example shows that the number of zeroes of a component of a solution of a system of linear ordinary differential equations cannot be estimated through the norm of coefficients of the system alone.
We prove averaging theorems for ordinary differential equations and retarded functional differential equations. Our assumptions are weaker than those required in the results of the existing literature. Usually, we require that the nonautonomous differential equation and the autonomous averaged equation are locally Lipschitz and that the solutions of both equations exist on some interval. We extend this result to the case of vector fields which are continuous in the spatial variable uniformly with respect to time and without any assumption on the interval of existence of the solutions of the no…
In this Letter we identify special systems of (an arbitrary number) N of first-order Ordinary Differential Equations with homogeneous polynomials of arbitrary degree M on their right-hand sides, which feature very simple explicit solutions; as well as variants of these systems--with right-hand sides no more homogeneous--which feature periodic solutions. A novelty of these findings is to consider special systems characterized by constraints involving both their parameters and their initial data.
The paper analyzes the structure and the inner long-term dynamics of the invariant compact sets for the skewproduct flow induced by a family of time-dependent ordinary differential equations of nonhomogeneous linear dissipative type. The main assumptions are made on the dissipative term and on the homogeneous linear term of the equations. The rich casuistic includes the uniform stability of the invariant compact sets, as well as the presence of Li-Yorke chaos and Auslander-Yorke chaos inside the attractor.
We prove that measure-preserving symmetries of an $n$-dimensional differential system preserve its divergence and the divergence derivatives along the solutions. Also, we prove that measure-preserving reversibilities preserve odd-order divergence derivatives along the solutions, and that even-order derivatives are multiplied by $-1$. We apply such results to find all the area-preserving symmetries and reversibilities of planar Lotka-Volterra and Liénard systems.
We consider systems of ordinary differential equations with quadratic homogeneous right hand side. We give a new simple proof of a result already obtained in [8,10] which gives the necessary conditions for the existence of polynomial first integrals. The necessary conditions for the existence of a polynomial symmetry field are given. It is proved that an arbitrary homogeneous first integral of a given degree is a linear combination of a fixed set of polynomials.
Our purpose in this paper is to study when a planar differential system polynomial in one variable linearizes in the sense that it has an inverse integrating factor which can be constructed by means of the solutions of linear differential equations. We give several families of differential systems which illustrate how the integrability of the system passes through the solutions of a linear differential equation. At the end of the work, we describe some families of differential systems which are Darboux integrable and whose inverse integrating factor is constructed using the solutions of a seco…
The spectral method for building first integrals of ordinary linear differential systems is elaborated. Using this method, we obtain bases of first integrals for linear differential systems with constant coefficients, for linear nonautonomous differential systems integrable in closed form (algebraic reducible systems, triangular systems, the Lappo-Danilevskii systems), and for reducible ordinary differential systems with respect to various transformation groups.
We describe a Lohner-type algorithm for the computation of rigorous upper bounds for reachable set for control systems, solutions of ordinary differential inclusions and perturbations of ODEs.
We continue the study of the center problem for the ordinary differential equation $v'=\sum_{i=1}^{\infty}a_{i}(x)v^{i+1}$ started in our earlier papers. In this paper we present the highlights of the algebraic theory of centers.
Lie symmetries for ordinary differential equations are studied. In systems of ordinary differential equations, there do not always exist non-trivial Lie symmetries around equilibrium points. We present a necessary condition for existence of Lie symmetries analytic in the neighbourhood of an equilibrium point. In addition, this result can be applied to a necessary condition for existence of a Lie symmetry in quasihomogeneous systems of ordinary differential equations. With the help of our main theorem, it is proved that several systems do not possess any analytic Lie symmetries.
Conditions are given for a class of nonlinear ordinary differential equations x''(t)+a(t)w(x)=0, t>=1, which includes the linear equation to possess solutions x(t) with prescribed oblique asymptote that have an oscillatory pseudo-wronskian x'(t)-x(t)/t.
By revisiting an asymptotic integration theory of nonlinear ordinary differential equations due to J.K. Hale and N. Onuchic [Contributions Differential Equations 2 (1963), 61--75], we improve and generalize several recent results in the literature. As an application, we study the existence of bounded positive solutions to a large class of semi-linear elliptic partial differential equations via the subsolution-supersolution approach.
This note considers cooperative irreducible systems of ordinary differential equations admitting a $C^{1}$ first integral with positive gradient. We prove that all forward or backward nonwandering points are equilibria. We obtain also some results on the global phase portrait of such systems. The main tool of proof is a canonically defined Finsler structure with respect to which the derivative skew-product dynamical system is contractive.
The aim of this text is to extend the theory of generalized ordinary differential equations to the setting of metric spaces. We present existence and uniqueness theorems that significantly improve previous results even when restricted back to Euclidean spaces.
Properties of partial integrals such as real and complex-valued polynomial, multiple polynomial, exponential, and conditional for ordinary differential systems are studied. The possibilities of constructing first integrals and last multipliers by known partial integrals are considered. Applications of partial integrals to solve the Darboux problem and to the extended Darboux problem are given. Integral basis of the Jacobi system is built. And the inverse problem of constructing differential systems on the base of their partial integrals is solved.
In this paper, the necessary and sufficient conditions in order that a smooth mapping F be a dependence of a complete solution of some second-order ordinary differential equation on Neumann conditions are deduced. These necessary and sufficient conditions consist of functional equations for F and of a smooth extensibility condition. Illustrative examples are presented to demonstrate this result. In these examples, the mentioned functional equations for F are related to the functional equations for geodesics, to Jensen's equation, to the functional equations for conic sections and to Neuman's r…
This evocative essay focuses on the mathematical activities witnessed by the author along 1962-64 at IMPA. We specialize Olver's and Rosenau's side condition heuristics for the determination of particular invariant sets of ordinary differential equations. It turns out that side conditions of so-called LaSalle type are of special interest. Moreover we put side condition properties of symmetric and partially symmetric equations in a wider context. In the final section we present an application to parameter-dependent systems, in particular to quasi-steady state for chemical reactions.
A system of 4 nonlinearly-coupled Ordinary Differential Equations has been recently introduced to investigate the evolution of human respiratory virus epidemics. In this paper we point out that some explicit solutions of that system can be obtained by algebraic operations, provided the parameters of the model satisfy certain constraints.
We give a simplified proof and an improvement of a recent theorem by A. Grigoriev, placing an upper bound for the number of roots of linear combinations of solutions to systems of linear equations with polynomial or rational coefficients.
A novel way of using neural networks to learn the dynamics of time delay systems from sequential data is proposed. A neural network with trainable delays is used to approximate the right hand side of a delay differential equation. We relate the delay differential equation to an ordinary differential equation by discretizing the time history and train the corresponding neural ordinary differential equation (NODE) to learn the dynamics. An example on learning the dynamics of the Mackey-Glass equation using data from chaotic behavior is given. After learning both the nonlinearity and the time del…
Traditional solvers for delay differential equations (DDEs) are designed around only a single method and do not effectively use the infrastructure of their more-developed ordinary differential equation (ODE) counterparts. In this work we present DelayDiffEq, a Julia package for numerically solving delay differential equations (DDEs) which leverages the multitude of numerical algorithms in OrdinaryDiffEq for solving both stiff and non-stiff ODEs, and manages to solve challenging stiff DDEs. We describe how compiling the ODE integrator within itself, and accounting for discontinuity propagation,…
We consider the following inverse problem for an ordinary differential equation (ODE): given a set of data points $P=\{(t_i,x_i),\; i=1,\dots,N\}$, find an ODE $x^\prime(t) = v (x)$ that admits a solution $x(t)$ such that $x_i \approx x(t_i)$ as closely as possible. The key to the proposed method is to find approximations of the recursive or discrete propagation function $D(x)$ from the given data set. Afterwards, we determine the field $v(x)$, using the conjugate map defined by Schröder's equation and the solution of a related Julia's equation. Moreover, our approach also works for the invers…
