Consider the Mackey functor assigning to each finite group G the Green ring of finitely generated kG-modules, where k is a field of characteristic p>0. Thevenaz foresaw in 1988 that the class of primordial groups for this functor is the family of k-Dress groups. In this paper we prove that this is true for the subfunctor defined by the Green ring of finitely generated kG-modules of trivial source.
In this paper, we study the Green ring and the stable Green ring of a Hopf algebra $H$ by means of bilinear forms. We show that the Green ring of a Hopf algebra of finite representation type is a Frobenius algebra over $\mathbb{Z}$ with a dual basis associated to almost split sequences. On the stable Green ring we define a new bilinear form which is more accurate to determine the bi-Frobenius property of the stable Green ring. We show that the complexified stable Green ring (or algebra) is a group-like algebra, and hence a bi-Frobenius algebra, if the bilinear form on the stable Green ring is …
In this paper, we study the Green ring (or the representation ring) of Drinfeld quantum double $D(H_4)$ of Sweedler's 4-dimensional Hopf algebra $H_4$. We first give the decompositions of the tensor products of finite dimensional indecomposable modules into the direct sum of indecomposable modules over $D(H_4)$. Then we describe the structure of the Green ring $r(D(H_4))$ of $D(H_4)$ and show that $r(D(H_4))$ is generated, as a ring, by infinitely many elements subject to a family of relations.
We consider the Green ring $R_{KC}$ for a cyclic $p$-group $C$ over a field $K$ of prime characteristic $p$ and determine the Adams operations $ψ^n$ in the case where $n$ is not divisible by $p$. This gives information on the decomposition into indecomposables of exterior powers and symmetric powers of $KC$-modules.
In the paper, the representation rings (or the Green rings) for a family of Hopf algebras of tame type, the 2-rank Taft algebra (at $q=-1$) and its two relatives twisted by 2-cocycles are explicitly described via a representation theoretic analysis. It turns out that the Green rings can serve to detect effectively the twist-equivalent Hopf algebras here.
We compute the Green ring of the Taft algebra $H_n(q)$, where $n$ is a positive integer greater than 1, and $q$ is an $n$-th root of unity. It turns out that the Green ring $r(H_n(q))$ of the Taft algebra $H_n(q)$ is a commutative ring generated by two elements subject to certain relations defined recursively. Concrete examples for $n=2,3,..., 8$ are given.
In this paper, we investigate the Green ring $r(H_{n,d})$ of the generalized Taft algebra $H_{n,d}$, extending the results of Chen, Van Oystaeyen and Zhang in \cite{Coz}. We shall determine all nilpotent elements of the Green ring $r(H_{n,d})$. It turns out that each nilpotent element in $r(H_{n,d})$ can be written as a sum of indecomposable projective representations. The Jacobson radical $J(r(H_{n,d}))$ of $r(H_{n,d})$ is generated by one element, and its rank is $n-n/d$. Moreover, we will present all the finite dimensional indecomposable representations over the complexified Green ring $R(H…
In this paper, we generalize the categorifical construction of a quantum group and its canonical basis introduced by Lusztig (\cite{Lusztig,Lusztig2}) to the generic form of the whole Ringel-Hall algebra. We clarify the explicit relation between the Green formula in \cite{Green} and the restriction functor in \cite{Lusztig2}. By a geometric way to prove the Green formula, we show that the Hopf structure of a Ringel-Hall algebra can be categorified under Lusztig's framework.
Let $H$ be a finite dimensional pointed rank one Hopf algebra of nilpotent type. We first determine all finite dimensional indecomposable $H$-modules up to isomorphism, and then establish the Clebsch-Gordan formulas for the decompositions of the tensor products of indecomposable $H$-modules by virtue of almost split sequences. The Green ring $r(H)$ of $H$ will be presented in terms of generators and relations. It turns out that the Green ring $r(H)$ is commutative and is generated by one variable over the Grothendieck ring $G_0(H)$ of $H$ modulo one relation. Moreover, $r(H)$ is Frobenius and …
In this paper, we continue our study of the Green rings of finite dimensional pointed Hopf algebras of rank one initiated in \cite{WLZ}, but focus on those Hopf algebras of non-nilpotent type. Let $H$ be a finite dimensional pointed rank one Hopf algebra of non-nilpotent type. We first determine all non-isomorphic indecomposable $H$-modules and describe the Clebsch-Gordan formulas for them. We then study the structures of both the Green ring $r(H)$ and the Grothendieck ring $G_0(H)$ of $H$ and establish the precise relation between the two rings. We use the Cartan map of $H$ to study the Jacob…
The Adams operations $ψ_Λ^n$ and $ψ_S^n$ on the Green ring of a group $G$ over a field $K$ provide a framework for the study of the exterior powers and symmetric powers of $KG$-modules. When $G$ is finite and $K$ has prime characteristic $p$ we show that $ψ_Λ^n$ and $ψ_S^n$ are periodic in $n$ if and only if the Sylow $p$-subgroups of $G$ are cyclic. In the case where $G$ is a cyclic $p$-group we find the minimum periods and use recent work of Symonds to express $ψ_S^n$ in terms of $ψ_Λ^n$.
In general, representation rings are well-known as Green rings from module categories of Hopf algebras. In this paper, we study Green rings in the context of monoidal categories such that representations of Hopf algebras can be investigated through Green rings of various levels from module categories to derived categories in the unified view-point. Firstly, as analogue of representation rings of Hopf algebras, we set up the so-called Green rings of monoidal categories, and then list some such categories including module categories, complex categories, homotopy categories, derived categories an…
We return to the fusion rules for the Drinfeld double of the duals of the generalised Taft algebras that we studied in [9]. We first correct some proofs and statements in [9] that were incorrect, using stable homomorphisms. We then complete this with new results on fusion rules for the modules we had not studied in [9] and a classification of endotrivial and algebraic modules.
Let $\hat\Z_p$ be the ring of $p$-adic integers. We prove in the present paper that the category of polynomial functors from finitely generated free abelian groups to $\hat \Z_p$-modules of degree at most $p$ is equivalent to the category of finitely generated modules over a particularly well understood ring, called Green order. That this is the case was conjectured by Yuri Drozd.
We extend the theory of Mackey 2-functors introduced in arXiv:1808.04902 by defining the appropriate notion of rings, namely Green 2-functors. After providing the first results of our theory and abundant examples, we show how all classical Green functors familiar from representation theory and topology arise by decategorification, in various ways, of some Green 2-functor occurring in Nature.
Systematically using the language of groupoids, we survey the theory of global Mackey functors, global Green functors and global power functors. Given a global power functor, we study rings with similar operations. The example of n-class functions leads to the notion of an n-special lambda ring.
For a finite group $G$ and an algebraically closed field $k$ of characteristic $p>0$ for any indecomposable finite dimensional $kG$-module $M$ with vertex $D$ and a subgroup $H$ of $G$ containing $N_G(D)$ there is a unique indecomposable $kH$-module $N$ of vertex $D$ being a direct summand of the restriction of $M$ to $H$. This correspondence, called Green correspondence, was generalised by Auslander-Kleiner to the situation of pairs of adjoint functors between additive categories. In the original situation of group rings Carlson-Peng-Wheeler proved that this correspondence is actually restric…
Lusztig has given a construction of certain representations of reductive groups over finite local principal ideal rings of characteristic p, extending the construction of Deligne and Lusztig of representations of reductive groups over finite fields. We generalize Lusztig's results to reductive groups over arbitrary finite local rings. This generalization uses the Greenberg functor and the theory of group schemes over Artinian local rings.
Our investigation in the present paper is based on three important results. (1) In [12], Ringel introduced Hall algebra for representations of a quiver over finite fields and proved the elements corresponding to simple representations satisfy the quantum Serre relation. This gives a realization of the nilpotent part of quantum group if the quiver is of finite type. (2) In [4], Green found a homological formula for the representation category of the quiver and equipped Ringel's Hall algebra with a comultiplication. The generic form of the composition subalgebra of Hall algebra generated by simp…
We use the abstract framework constructed in our earlier paper to study local duality for Noetherian $\mathbb{E}_{\infty}$-ring spectra. In particular, we compute the local cohomology of relative dualizing modules for finite morphisms of ring spectra, thereby generalizing the local duality theorem of Benson and Greenlees. We then explain how our results apply to the modular representation theory of compact Lie groups and finite group schemes, which recovers the theory previously developed by Benson, Iyengar, Krause, and Pevtsova.
We consider a certain quotient of a polynomial ring categorified by both the isomorphic Green rings of the symmetric groups and Schur algebras generated by the signed Young permutation modules and mixed powers respectively. They have bases parametrised by pairs of partitions whose second partitions are multiples of the odd prime $p$ the characteristic of the underlying field. We provide an explicit formula rewriting a signed Young permutation module (respectively, mixed power) in terms of signed Young permutation modules (respectively, mixed powers) labelled by those pairs of partitions. As a …
Let $Λ$ be a $\mathbb{Z}$-graded artin algebra. Two classical results of Gordon and Green state that if $Λ$ has only finitely many indecomposable gradable modules, up to isomorphism, then $Λ$ has finite representation type, and if $Λ$ has finite representation type then every $Λ$-module is gradable. We generalize these results to $\mathbb{Z}$-graded right artinian rings $R$. The key tool is a characterization of gradable modules: a f.g. right $R$-module is gradable if and only if its "pull-up" is pure-projective. Using this we show that if there is a bound on the graded-lengths of f.g. indecom…
This note is motivated by the problem to understand, given a commutative ring F, which G-sets X, Y give rise to isomorphic F[G]-representations F[X]\cong F[Y]. A typical step in such investigations is an argument that uses induction theorems to give very general sufficient conditions for all such relations to come from proper subquotients of G. In the present paper we axiomatise the situation, and prove such a result in the generality of Mackey functors and Green functors with inflation. Our result includes, as special cases, a result of Deligne on monomial relations, a result of the first aut…
