We consider possible indications of Very-Short-BaseLine (VSBL) electron neutrino disappearance into sterile neutrinos in MiniBooNE neutrino data and Gallium radioactive source experiments. We discuss the compatibility of such a disappearance with reactor and MiniBooNE antineutrino data. We find a tension between neutrino and antineutrino data which could be due to: 1) statistical fluctuations; 2) underestimate of systematic uncertainties; 3) exclusion of our hypothesis of VSBL nu_e disappearance; 4) a violation of CPT symmetry. Considering the first possibility, we present the results of a combined fit of all data, which indicate that P_{ee} < 1 with 97.04 CL. We consider also the possibility of CPT violation, which leads to the best-fit value A_{ee}^{CPT,bf} = -0.17 for the asymmetry of the nu_e and antinu_e survival probabilities and A_{ee}^{CPT} < 0 at 99.7 CL.
The MINOS/MINOS+ experiment has recently reported stringent limits on $ν_μ$ disappearance that appear to rule out the 3+1 sterile neutrino model. However, in this paper we wish to point out problems associated with the MINOS/MINOS+ analysis. In particular, we find that MINOS/MINOS+ has either underestimated their systematic errors and/or has obtained evidence for physics beyond the 3-neutrino paradigm. Either case would invalidate the limits on $ν_μ$ disappearance.
We search for scalar and tensor non-standard interactions using (anti)-electron neutrino disappearance in oscillation data. We found a slight preference for non-zero CP violation, coming from both tensor and scalar interactions. The preference for CP violation is lead by Daya Bay low-energy data with a significance that reaches $\sim1.7σ$ in the global analysis (and $\sim2.1σ$ when considering only medium baseline reactors data) compared to the standard neutrino oscillation scenario.
This paper presents a combined analysis of the KARMEN and LSND nu_e-carbon cross section measurements within the context of a search for nu_e disappearance at high Delta m^2. KARMEN and LSND were located at 17.7 m and 29.8 m respectively from the neutrino source, so the consistency of the two measurements, as a function of antineutrino energy, sets strong limits on neutrino oscillations. Most of the allowed region from the nu_e disappearance analysis of the Gallium calibration data is excluded at >95% CL and the best fit point is excluded at 3.6$σ$. Assuming CPT conservation, comparisons are a…
Recent measurements of large theta_{13} by Daya Bay and RENO reactor experiments have opened up the possibility of determining the neutrino mass hierarchy, i.e. the sign of the mass squared splitting Delta m_{31}^2, the CP-violating phase delta_{CP} and the octant of theta_{23}. In the light of this result, we study the performance of a low energy neutrino factory (LENF) for determination of the mass hierarchy. In particular, we explore the potential of the nu_e$ and barν_e disappearance channels at LENF to determine the neutrino mass hierarchy, that is free from the uncertainties arising from…
We discuss short-baseline and very-short-baseline electron neutrino disappearance at a neutrino factory. We take into account geometric effects, such as from averaging over the decay straights, and the uncertainties of the cross sections. We follow an approach similar to reactor experiments with two detectors: we use two sets of near detectors at different distances to cancel systematics. We demonstrate that such a setup is very robust with respect to systematics, and can have excellent sensitivities to the effective mixing angle and squared-mass splitting. In addition, we allow for CPT invari…
With the 1998 announcement of new evidence for muon neutrino disappearance observed by the Super-Kamiokande experiment, the more than a decade old atmospheric neutrino anomaly moved from a possible indication for neutrino oscillations to an almost inescapable implication. The evidence from all experiments is reviewed, and indications are presented that the oscillations are probably between muon and tau neutrinos with nearly maximal mixing. Implications and future directions in neutrino oscillations research are discussed.
We derive the relation between the amplitudes of short-baseline appearance and disappearance oscillations in 3+$N_{s}$ neutrino mixing schemes which is the origin of the appearance-disappearance tension that is found from the analysis of the existing data in any 3+$N_{s}$ neutrino mixing scheme. We illustrate the power of the relation to reveal the appearance-disappearance tension in the cases of 3+1 and 3+2 mixing using the results of global fits of short-baseline neutrino oscillation data.
A sterile neutrino is a well motivated minimal new physics model that leaves an imprint in neutrino oscillations. Over the last two decades, a number of hints pointing to a sterile neutrino have emerged, many of which are pointing near $m_4\sim1$ eV. Here we show how MicroBooNE data can be used to search for electron neutrino disappearance using each of their four analysis channels. We find a hint for oscillations with the highest single channel significance of $2.4σ$ (using the Feldman-Cousins approach) coming from the Wire-Cell analysis and a simplified treatment of the experimental systemat…
We analyzed the electron neutrino data of the Gallium radioactive source experiments and the electron antineutrino data of the reactor Bugey and Chooz experiments in terms of neutrino oscillations. We found a hint of a CPT-violating asymmetry of the effective neutrino and antineutrino mixing angles.
We discuss short-baseline electron and muon neutrino disappearance searches into sterile neutrinos at a Very Low Energy Neutrino Factory (VLENF) with a muon energy between about two and four GeV. A lesson learned from reactor experiments, such as Double Chooz and Daya Bay, is to use near and far detectors with identical technologies to reduce the systematical errors. We therefore derive the physics results from a combined near-far detector fit and illustrate that uncertainties on cross sections x efficiencies can be eliminated in a self-consistent way. We also include the geometry of the setup…
We present a complete update of the analysis of electron neutrino and antineutrino disappearance experiments in terms of neutrino oscillations in the framework of 3+1 neutrino mixing, taking into account the Gallium anomaly, the reactor anomaly, solar neutrino data and nu_e-C scattering data. We discuss the implications of a recent 71Ga(3He,3H)71Ge measurement which give information on the neutrino cross section in Gallium experiments. We discuss the solar bound on active-sterile mixing and present our numerical results. We discuss the connection between the results of the fit of neutrino osci…
To be able to achieve their physics goals, future neutrino-oscillation experiments will need to reconstruct the neutrino energy with very high accuracy. In this work, we analyze how the energy reconstruction may be affected by realistic detection capabilities, such as energy resolutions, efficiencies, and thresholds. This allows us to estimate how well the detector performance needs to be determined a priori in order to avoid a sizable bias in the measurement of the relevant oscillation parameters. We compare the kinematic and calorimetric methods of energy reconstruction in the context of two…
Recently, three reactor neutrino experiments, Daya Bay, Double Chooz and RENO have directly measured the neutrino mixing angle $θ_{13}$. In this paper, another important oscillation parameter, effective $Δm_{31}^2$ (= $Δ\tilde{m}_{31}^2$) is measured using baseline dependence of the reactor neutrino disappearance. A global fit is applied to publicly available data and $Δ\tilde{m}_{31}^2 = 2.95^{+0.42}_{-0.61} \times 10^{-3}$ eV$^2$, $\sin^22θ_{13} = 0.099^{+0.016}_{-0.012}$ are obtained by setting both parameters free. This result is complementary to $Δtilde{m}_{31}^2$ to be measured by spectr…
We analyzed the electron neutrino data of the Gallium radioactive source experiments and the electron antineutrino data of the reactor Bugey and Chooz experiments in terms of neutrino oscillations allowing for a CPT-violating difference of the squared-masses and mixings of neutrinos and antineutrinos. We found that the discrepancy between the disappearance of electron neutrinos indicated by the data of the Gallium radioactive source experiments and the limits on the disappearance of electron antineutrinos given by the data of reactor experiments reveal a positive CPT-violating asymmetry of the…
We study the feasibility of performing a $ν_μ$ disappearance long-baseline experiment using a neutrino beam coming from muon decays. The advantage of such a technique with respect to the production of neutrino beams from pions is that in a muon decay both muon and electron neutrinos are produced in the same quantity. In case of $ν_μ\toν_{τ,s}$ oscillations, the $ν_e$ charged current (CC) events can be used as a control sample, to predict in situ the $ν_μ$ rates, thus reducing the systematics due to the knowledge of the neutrino flux, which is the main source of uncertainties for disappearance …
The NESSiE Collaboration has been setup to undertake a conclusive experiment to clarify the {\em muon--neutrino disappearance} measurements at short baselines in order to put severe constraints to models with more than the three--standard neutrinos. To this aim the current FNAL--Booster neutrino beam for a Short--Baseline experiment was carefully evaluated by considering the use of magnetic spectrometers at two sites, near and far ones. The detector locations were studied, together with the achievable performances of two OPERA--like spectrometers. The study was constrained by the availability …
We study the $ν_μ$ disappearance channel at T2K-phase I and the SPL and analyse the achievable reduction of present uncertainties in $θ_{23}$ and $Δm^2_{23}$. We analyse the impact of discrete ambiguities in sign($Δm^2{23}$) and sign($2 \tan θ_{23}$). We show how the disappearance channel at the Neutrino Factory is complementary to the ``golden'' and ``silver'' appearance channels and can be used to reduce the eightfold-ambiguity problem in ($θ_{13}-δ$).
The NESSiE experiment is designed to perform an accurate measurement of muon-neutrino disappearance at small L/E, in order to severely constrain models with more than three-standard neutrinos, or even determine for the first time the presence of a new kind of neutrino oscillation. NESSiE is a Short-Baseline experiment with magnetic spectrometers at two different sites on the FNAL-Booster neutrino beam. The experiment would allow to definitively solve the existing tension of the muon-neutrino disappearance result with the appearance and disappearance "anomalies" at eV mass scale, by spanning on…
We make an analysis of the fake CPT-violating asymmetries between the survival probabilities of neutrinos and antineutrinos, induced by the terrestrial matter effects, in three different scenarios of long-baseline neutrino oscillation experiments with L=730 km, L=2100 km and L=3200 km. In particular, the dependence of those asymmetries on the Dirac-type CP-violating phase of the lepton flavor mixing matrix is examined.
Anomalies in short baseline experiments have been interpreted as evidence for additional neutrino mass states with large mass splittings from the known, active flavors. This explanation mandates a corresponding signature in the muon neutrino disappearance channel, which has yet to be observed. Searches for muon neutrino disappearance at the IceCube neutrino telescope presently provide the strongest limits in the space of mixing angles for eV-scale sterile neutrinos. This proceeding for the Very Large Volume Neutrino Telescopes (VLVnT) Workshop summarizes the IceCube analyses that have searched…
The measurements of the fluxes of atmospheric neutrinos give evidence for the disappearance of muon neutrinos. The determination of the dependence of the disappearance probability on the neutrino energy and trajectory allows in principle to establish unambiguosly the existence of neutrino oscillations. Alternative mechanisms for the disappearance of the neutrinos have been proposed, but do not provide a viable description of the data, if one includes both events where the neutrinos interact in the detector and $ν$-induced upward going muons. The proposed mechanisms differ in the energy depende…
We explore the sensitivity to a non vanishing neutrino mass offered by dynamical observables, i.e., branching ratios and polarizations. The longitudinal polarization in the C.M. frame decreases by a 4% for $D^+ \rightarrow τ^+ ν_τ$ and $m_{ν_τ}=24$ MeV. Taking advantage of the fact that the polarization is a Lorentz variant quantity, we study the polarization effects in a boosted frame. By means of a neutrino beam, produced by a high velocity boosted parent able to flip the neutrino helicity, we find that an enhanced left-handed neutrino deficit, induced by a Wigner rotation, appears.
We investigate the present constraints from MINOS and T2K experiments for the neutrino decay scenario induced by non-diagonal couplings of Majorons to neutrinos. As novelty, on top of the typical invisible decay prescription, we add the contribution of visible decay, where final products can be observed. This new effect depends on the nature of the neutrino - Majoron coupling, which can be of scalar or pseudoscalar type. Using the combination of disappearance data from MINOS and disappearance and appearance data from T2K, for normal ordering, we constrain the decay parameter $α\equiv E\,Γ$ for…
"KPipe" is a proposed experiment which will study muon neutrino disappearance for a sensitive test of the $Δm^2\sim1 \mathrm{eV}^2$ anomalies, possibly indicative of one or more sterile neutrinos. The experiment is to be located at the J-PARC Materials and Life Science Facility's spallation neutron source, which represents the world's most intense source of charged kaon decay-at-rest monoenergetic (236 MeV) muon neutrinos. The detector vessel, designed to measure the charged current interactions of these neutrinos, will be 3 m in diameter and 120 m long, extending radially at a distance of 32 …
Neutrino physics is nowadays receiving more and more attention as a possible source of information for the long standing problem of new Physics beyond the Standard Model. The recent measurements of the third mixing angle $θ_{13}$ in the standard mixing oscillation scenario encourage to pursue the still missing results on the leptonic CP violation and the absolute neutrino masses. However, several puzzling and incomplete measurements are in place which deserve an exhaustive evaluation and study. We will report about the present situation of the muon disappearance measurements at small $L/E$ in …
Updating our previous measurements with new data and analysis modifications, we report preliminary results on the energy-dependent deficit of muon neutrinos from the Fermilab NuMI beam as observed with the MINOS Far Detector located 735 km away in the Soudan Underground Laboratory. From an exposure of 2.50x10^20 protons on target, we observe 563 charged-current nu_mu interaction candidates in the Far Detector, where 738+/-30 events are expected in the absence of neutrino oscillations. We have analyzed these data assuming two-flavor nu_mu to nu_tau oscillations. From a simultaneous fit to the r…
The significance of the Gallium Anomaly, from the BEST, GALLEX, and SAGE radioactive source experiments, is quantified using different theoretical calculations of the neutrino detection cross section, and its explanation due to neutrino oscillations is compared with the bounds from the analyses of reactor rate and spectral ratio data, $β$-decay data, and solar neutrino data. In the 3+1 active-sterile neutrino mixing scheme, the Gallium Anomaly is in strong tension with the individual and combined bounds of these data sets. In the combined scenario with all available data, the parameter goodnes…
Recently a new method for determining the neutrino mass hierarchy by comparing the effective values of the atmospheric Δm^2 measured in the electron neutrino disappearance channel, Δm^2(ee), with the one measured in the muon neutrino disappearance channel, Δm^2(μμ), was proposed. If Δm^2(ee) is larger (smaller) than Δm^2(μμ) the hierarchy is of the normal (inverted) type. We re-examine this proposition in the light of two very high precision measurements: Δm^2(μμ) that may be accomplished by the phase II of the Tokai-to-Kamioka (T2K) experiment, for example, and Δm^2(ee) that can be envisaged …
The RENO experiment recently reported the disappearance of reactor electron antineutrinos consistent with neutrino oscillations, with a significance of 4.9 standard deviations. The published ratio of observed to expected number of antineutrinos in the far detector is R=0.920 +-0.009(stat.) +-0.014(syst.) and corresponds to sin^2 2theta13 = 0.113 +-0.013(stat.) +-0.019(syst), using a rate-only analysis. In this letter we reanalyze the data and we find a ratio R=0.903 +-0.01(stat.), leading to sin^2 2theta13 = 0.135. Moreover we show that the sin^2 2theta13 measurement still depend of the prompt…
In 2011 and 2012, three reactor neutrino experiments, Double Chooz, Daya Bay and RENO showed positive signals of reactor neutrino disappearance and measured a mixing parameter sin^2(2th13) at average baselines 1.05, 1.65 and 1.44km, respectively. It is possible to measure effective Dm31^2 from distortion of neutrino energy spectrum (E dependence of the oscillation) in those experiments. However, since it requires a precise energy calibration, such measurements have not been reported yet. Dm31^2 can also be measured from baseline (L) dependence of the neutrino oscillation. In this paper, Dm31^2…
Here we update the global fit of neutrino oscillations in arXiv:1103.0734 and arXiv:1108.1376 including the recent measurements of reactor antineutrino disappearance reported by the Double Chooz, Daya Bay and RENO experiments, together with latest MINOS and T2K appearance and disappearance results, as presented at the Neutrino-2012 conference. We find that the preferred global fit value of $θ_{13}$ is quite large: $\sin^2θ_{13} \simeq 0.025$ for normal and inverted neutrino mass ordering, with $θ_{13} = 0$ now excluded at more than 10$σ$. The impact of the new $θ_{13}$ measurements over the ot…
We study the measurement of the atmospheric neutrino oscillation parameters, $θ_{23}$ and $Δm^2_{23}$, at the $ν_μ$ disappearance channel at three conventional beam facilities, the SPL, T2K-phase I and NO$ν$A. These two parameters have been shown to be of crucial importance in the measurement of two of the unknowns of the PMNS mixing matrix, $θ_{13}$ and the leptonic CP-violating phase $δ$. In our analyis, the effect of the two discrete ambiguities, ${\rm sign}(Δm^2_{23})$ and ${\rm sign}(\tan 2 θ_{23})$, is explicitly taken into account. We analyse also the $ν_μ$ disappearance channel at the …
The indications in favor of short-baseline neutrino oscillations, which require the existence of one or more sterile neutrinos, are reviewed. In the framework of 3+1 neutrino mixing, which is the simplest extension of the standard three-neutrino mixing which can partially explain the data, there is a strong tension in the interpretation of the data, mainly due to an incompatibility of the results of appearance and disappearance experiments. In the framework of 3+2 neutrino mixing, CP violation in short-baseline experiments can explain the difference between MiniBooNE neutrino and antineutrino …
We discuss and quantify different possibilities to determine matter effects, the value and the sign of $Delta m^2_{31}$, as well as the magnitude of $\sin^2 2θ_{13}$ in very long baseline neutrino oscillation experiments. We study neutrino oscillation at a neutrino factory in the $ν_μ\toν_μ$ disappearance and $ν_e\toν_μ$ appearance channels with and without muon charge identification. One possibility is to analyze the $ν_e\toν_μ$ appearance channels leading to wrong sign muon events, which requires however very good muon charge identification. Without charge identification it is still possible…
We present a quantitative, direct comparison of constraints on sterile neutrinos derived from neutrino oscillation experiments and from Planck data, interpreted assuming standard cosmological evolution. We extend a $1+1$ model, which is used to compare exclusions contours at the 95% CL derived from Planck data to those from $ν_{e}$-disappearance measurements, to a $3+1$ model. This allows us to compare the Planck constraints with those obtained through $ν_μ\rightarrowν_{e}$ appearance searches, which are sensitive to more than one active-sterile mixing angle. We find that the cosmological data…
Of late, a number of instances of neutrino flux anomalies observed at short-baselines have given traction to the hypothesis of adding new neutrino flavours to our Standard Model set, albeit ones not associated with a partnered lepton. Anomalies observed at LSND, MiniBooNE and at short distances from nuclear reactors have suggested the existence of sterile mass states with masses on the scale of $\sim1\text{eV}$, prompting further investigations. Subsequently, Fermilab is set to host a Short-Baseline Neutrino (SBN) oscillation program which will cross-check each of these anomalies by deploying …
We consider the interpretation of the MiniBooNE low-energy anomaly and the Gallium radioactive source experiments anomaly in terms of short-baseline electron neutrino disappearance in the framework of 3+1 four-neutrino mixing schemes. The separate fits of MiniBooNE and Gallium data are highly compatible, with close best-fit values of the effective oscillation parameters Delta m^2 and sin^2 2 theta. The combined fit gives Delta m^2 >~ 0.1 eV^2 and 0.11 < sin^2 2 theta < 0.48 at 2 sigma. We consider also the data of the Bugey and Chooz reactor antineutrino oscillation experiments and the limits …

In recent Letter by An et al. [arXiv:1203.1669] Daya Bay measurements of non-zero value for the neutrino mixing angle θ_{13} with a significance of 5.2 standard deviations were reported. The value of sin^2 θ_{13} was determined with a χ^2 constructed with pull terms accounting for the correlation of the systematic errors. We show that a direct applying of the KamLAND parameters of mixing to Daya Bay-experiment under nonequilibrium geoneutrino spectrum of the nuclear burning process within the framework of nonzero nuclear georeactor χ^2 -hypothesis will produce a high uncertainty level and, as …
If active to active neutrino transitions are dominant modes of the atmospheric ($ν_μ \to ν_τ$) and the solar neutrino oscillations ($ν_{e}\to ν_μ/ν_τ$), as is indicated by recent data, the favoured scheme which accommodates the LSND result - the so called (2+2)-scheme - should be discarded. We introduce the parameters $η_s^{atm}$ and $η_s^{sun}$ which quantify an involvement of the sterile component in the solar and atmospheric neutrino oscillations. The (2+2)-scheme predicts $η_s^{atm} + η_s^{sun} = 1$ and the experimental proof of deviation from this equality will discriminate the scheme. In…
Powerful new multi-kiloton liquid scintillator neutrino detectors, including NOvA and LENA, will come on-line within the next decade. When these are coupled with a modest-power decay-at-rest (DAR) neutrino source at short-baseline, these detectors can decisively address the recent ambiguous signals for neutrino oscillations at high Delta m^2. These detectors are > 50 m long, and so with a DAR beam, the characteristic oscillation wave will be apparent over the length of the detector, providing a powerful verification of the oscillation phenomena. LENA can simultaneously perform numubar to nueba…
Neutrino oscillations involving eV-scale neutrino mass states are investigated in the context of global neutrino oscillation data including short and long-baseline accelerator, reactor, and radioactive source experiments, as well as atmospheric and solar neutrinos. We consider sterile neutrino mass schemes involving one or two mass-squared differences at the eV^2 scale denoted by 3+1, 3+2, and 1+3+1. We discuss the hints for eV-scale neutrinos from nu_e disappearance (reactor and Gallium anomalies) and nu_mu->nu_e appearance (LSND and MiniBooNE) searches, and we present constraints on sterile …
We consider searching for light sterile fermions and new forces by using long baseline oscillations of neutrinos and antineutrinos. A new light sterile state and/or a new force can lead to apparent CPT violation in muon neutrino and antineutrino oscillations. As an example, we present an economical model of neutrino masses containing a sterile neutrino. The potential from the Standard Model neutral current gives rise to a difference between the disappearance probabilities of neutrinos and antineutrinos, when mixing with a light sterile neutrino is considered. The addition of a B-L interaction …
We show that a low energy beta-beam facility can be used to search for sterile neutrinos by measuring the disappearance of electron anti-neutrinos. This channel is particularly sensitive since it allows to use inverse beta decay as detection reaction; thus it is free from hadronic uncertainties, provided the neutrino energy is below the pion production threshold. This corresponds to a choice of the Lorentz gamma=30 for the 6He parent ion. Moreover, a disappearance measurement allows the constraint of sterile neutrino properties independently of any CP violating effects. A moderate detector siz…

We have surveyed leptonic and grand unified models of neutrino masses and mixings in the literature which are still viable and give numerical predictions for the reactor angle, $θ_{13}$. The results are of considerable interest in anticipation of the next generation reactor experiments and the possible future need for neutrino factories. Of the 63 models considered which were published or posted on the Archive before June 2006, half predict values of $\sin^2 2θ_{13} \gsim 0.015$, which should yield positive signals for $\barν_e$ disappearance in the reactor experiments planned for the near fut…
The deficit observed in the Gallium radioactive source experiments is interpreted as a possible indication of the disappearance of electron neutrinos. In the effective framework of two-neutrino mixing we obtain $\sin^{2}2\vartheta \gtrsim 0.03$ and $Δ{m}^{2} \gtrsim 0.1 \text{eV}^{2}$. The compatibility of this result with the data of the Bugey and Chooz reactor short-baseline antineutrino disappearance experiments is studied. It is found that the Bugey data present a hint of neutrino oscillations with $0.02 \lesssim \sin^{2}2\vartheta \lesssim 0.08$ and $Δ{m}^{2} \approx 1.8 \text{eV}^{2}$, w…
Several neutrino experiments have reported results that are potentially inconsistent with our current understanding of the lepton sector. A candidate solution to these so-called short-baseline anomalies is postulating the existence of new, eV-scale, mostly sterile neutrinos that mix with the active neutrinos. This hypothesis, however, is strongly disfavored once one considers all neutrino data, especially those that constrain the disappearance of muon and electron neutrinos at short-baselines. Here, we show that if the sterile-active mixing parameters depend on the energy-scales that character…
The neutrino mass hierarchy can be determined, in principle, by measuring a phase in the disappearance oscillation probability in vacuum, without relying on the matter effect, using a single channel. This phase is not the same for the normal and inverted neutrino mass spectra. In this paper, we give a complete description and physics understanding of the method. The key feature of the method is to detect advancement (normal) or retardation (inverted) of the phase of the atmospheric-scale oscillation relative to the solar-scale oscillation. We then show that this method can be realized with the…
We present an update of our analysis of short-baseline neutrino oscillation data in the framework of 3+1 neutrino mixing taking into account the recent update of MiniBooNE antineutrino data and the recent results of the MINOS search for nu_mu disappearance into sterile neutrinos (the more complicated 3+2 neutrino mixing is not needed since the CP-violating difference between MiniBooNE neutrino and antineutrino data has diminished). The results of our fits of short-baseline neutrino oscillation data including the MiniBooNE low-energy anomaly (now present both in the neutrino and antineutrino da…
After a brief review of the results of solar, atmospheric and long-baseline neutrino oscillation experiments which led to the current three-neutrino mixing paradigm, we discuss indications of neutrino oscillation experiments in favor of short-baseline oscillations which require the existence of one or more sterile neutrinos. We show that the simplest possibility of existence of one sterile neutrino is not enough to fit all data of short-baseline neutrino oscillation experiments because of two tensions: a tension between neutrino and antineutrino data and a tension between appearance and disapp…
Motivated by the recent anomaly in the muon neutrino and anti-muon neutrino disappearance experiments, we consider a long-range interaction with an extremely light gauge boson and extraordinarily weak coupling. A long-range interaction, consistent with current bounds, could have very pronounced effects on atmospheric neutrino disappearance that will be studied with the IceCube DeepCore array, currently in operation, and can have a significant effect on future high-precision long-baseline oscillation experiments.
Recent global fits to short-baseline neutrino oscillation data have been performed finding preference for a sterile neutrino solution (3+1) over null. In the most recent iteration, it was pointed out that an unstable sterile neutrino (3+1+decay) may be a better description of the data. This is due to the fact that this model significantly reduces the tension between appearance and disappearance datasets. In this work, we add a one-year IceCube dataset to the global fit obtaining new results for the standard 3+1 and 3+1+decay sterile neutrino scenarios. We find that the 3+1+decay model provides…
Sterile neutrinos are one candidate to explain anomalies in neutrino oscillations. The mass-difference-driving oscillation between flavors can be probed only within specific combinations of baseline and flight energy. For a neutrino whose mass is completely unknown, it is necessary to scan all available ranges in spectrum and all accessible baselines. Here, we present four-neutrino analysis of the results announced by RENO and Daya Bay, which performed the definitive measurements of $θ_{13}$ based on the disappearance of the inverse-beta-decay antineutrino at km-order baselines. Our results wi…
