By using the $q$-Gaussian distribution derived by the maximum entropy method for spatially-correlated $N$-unit nonextensive systems, we have calculated the generalized Fisher information matrix of $g_{θ_n θ_m}$ for $(θ_1, θ_2, θ_3) = (μ_q, σ_q^2$, $s$), where $μ_q$, $σ_q^2$ and $s$ denote the mean, variance and degree of spatial correlation, respectively, for a given entropic index $q$. It has been shown from the Cramér-Rao theorem that (1) an accuracy of an unbiased estimate of $μ_q$ is improved (degraded) by a negative (positive) correlation $s$, (2) that of $σ_q^2$ is worsen with increasing $s$, and (3) that of $s$ is much improved for $s \simeq -1/(N-1)$ or $s \simeq 1.0$ though it is worst at $s = (N-2)/2(N-1)$. Our calculation provides a clear insight to the long-standing controversy whether the spatial correlation is beneficial or detrimental to decoding in neuronal ensembles. We discuss also a calculation of the $q$-Gaussian distribution, applying the superstatistics to the Langevin model subjected to spatially-correlated inputs.
We have calculated the Tsallis entropy and Fisher information matrix (entropy) of spatially-correlated nonextensive systems, by using an analytic non-Gaussian distribution obtained by the maximum entropy method. Effects of the correlated variability on the Fisher information matrix are shown to be different from those on the Tsallis entropy. The Fisher information is increased (decreased) by a positive (negative) correlation, whereas the Tsallis entropy is decreased with increasing an absolute magnitude of the correlation independently of its sign. This fact arises from the difference in their…
The Tsallis entropy and Fisher information entropy (matrix) are very important quantities expressing information measures in nonextensive systems. Stationary and dynamical properties of the information entropies have been investigated in the $N$-unit coupled Langevin model subjected to additive and multiplicative white noise, which is one of typical nonextensive systems. We have made detailed, analytical and numerical study on the dependence of the stationary-state entropies on additive and multiplicative noise, external inputs, couplings and number of constitutive elements ($N$). By solving t…
We have discussed dynamical properties of the Tsallis entropy and the generalized Fisher information in nonextensive systems described by the Langevin model subjected to additive and multiplicative noise. Analytical expressions for the time-dependent Tsallis entropy and generalized Fisher information have been obtained with the use of the $q$-moment approach to the Fokker-Planck equation developed in a previous study [H. Hasegawa, Phys. Rev. E {\bf 77}, 031133 (2008)]. Model calculations of the information entropies in response to an applied pulse and sinusoidal inputs have been presented.
We present two extended forms of Fisher information that fit well in the context of nonextensive thermostatistics. We show that there exists an interplay between these generalized Fisher information, the generalized $q$-Gaussian distributions and the $q$-entropies. The minimum of the generalized Fisher information among distributions with a fixed moment, or with a fixed $q$-entropy is attained, in both cases, by a generalized $q$-Gaussian distribution. This complements the fact that the $q$-Gaussians maximize the $q$-entropies subject to a moment constraint, and yields new variational characte…
We apply a variant of the Nose-Hoover thermostat to derive the Hamiltonian of a nonextensive system that is compatible with the canonical ensemble of the generalized thermostatistics of Tsallis. This microdynamical approach provides a deterministic connection between the generalized nonextensive entropy and power law behavior. For the case of a simple one-dimensional harmonic oscillator, we confirm by numerical simulation of the dynamics that the distribution of energy H follows precisely the canonical q-statistics for different values of the parameter q. The approach is further tested for cla…
We study the thermodynamic properties of solid and metal electrons in the nonextensive quantum statistics with a nonextensive parameter transformation. First we study the nonextensive grand canonical distribution function and the nonextensive quantum statistics with a parameter transformation. Then we derive the generalized Boson distribution and Fermi distribution in the nonextensive quantum statistics. Further we study the thermodynamic properties of solid and metal electrons in the nonextensive quantum system, including the generalized Debye models, the generalized internal energies, the ge…
Macroscopic nonextensive thermodynamics is studied without recourse to microscopic statistical mechanics. It is shown that if entropy is nonextensive, the concept of physical temperature introduced through the generalized zeroth law of thermodynamics necessarily leads to modifications of the first law of thermodynamics and some of thermodynamic relations including Clausius definition of thermodynamic entropy. It is also shown, by applying this generalized Clausius entropy to a composite nonextensive system, how the nonextensive entropy and the quantity of heat consistently behave in an arbitra…
We discuss the generalized von Neumann (Tsallis) entropy and the generalized Fisher information (GFI) in nonextensive quantum systems, by using the interpolation approximation (IA) which has been shown to yield good results for the quantal distributions within $O(q-1)$ and in high- and low-temperature limits, $q$ being the entropic index [H. Hasegawa, Phys. Rev. E 80 (2009) 011126]. Three types of GFIs which have been proposed so far in the nonextensive statistics, are discussed from the viewpoint of their metric properties and the Cramér-Rao theorem. Numerical calculations of the $q$- and tem…
In this short paper, we establish a variational expression of the Tsallis relative entropy. In addition, we derive a generalized thermodynamic inequality and a generalized Peierls-Bogoliubov inequality. Finally we give a generalized Golden-Thompson inequality.
We show that thermodynamic uncertainties (TU) it preserve their form in passing from Boltzmann-Gibbs' statistics to Tsallis' one provided that we express these TU in terms of the appropriate variable conjugate to the temperature in a nonextensive context.
We show that using the most parsimonious version of Frieden and Soffer's extreme information principle (EPI) with a Fisher measure constructed with escort probabilities, the concomitant solutions obey a type of Naudts' duality for nonextensive ensembles. We also determine in closed form the general (normalized) probability distribution that minimizes Fisher's information.
Quite unexpectedly, kinetic theory is found to specify the correct definition of average value to be employed in nonextensive statistical mechanics. It is shown that the normal average is consistent with the generalized Stosszahlansatz (i.e., molecular chaos hypothesis) and the associated H-theorem, whereas the q-average widely used in the relevant literature is not. In the course of the analysis, the distributions with finite cut-off factors are rigorously treated. Accordingly, the formulation of nonextensive statistical mechanics is amended based on the normal average. In addition, the Shore…
We have used the generalized two-atom ideal gas model in Tsallis statistics for the statistical description of a real gas. By comparing the heat capacity with the experimental results for the two-atom molecule gases such as N2, O2 and CO, we find that these gases appear extensive at normal temperature, but they may be nonextensive at the lower temperature. Furthermore, we study the heat capacity of the generalized many-atom gas model. We conclude that, for the many-atom gas with a high degree of freedom, a weak nonextensivity of 1-q<0 can lead to the instability.
We show that the zeroth law of thermodynamics holds within an alternative version of nonextensive statistical mechanics based on {\it incomplete probability distribution}. The generalized zeroth law leads to a generalized definition of thermodynamic functions which are possible to be used for systems with important nonextensivity (nonadditivity) in energy, volume or other external variables.
We formulate a convenient generalization of the q-expectation value, based on the analogy of the symmetric quantum groups and q-calculus, and show that the q->q^{-1} symmetric nonextensive entropy preserves all of the mathematical structure of thermodynamics just as in the case of non-symmetric Tsallis statistics. Basic properties and analogies with quantum groups are discussed.
In the present paper, we would like to draw attention to a possible generalized Fisher information that fits well in the formalism of nonextensive thermostatistics. This generalized Fisher information is defined for densities on $\mathbb{R}^{n}.$ Just as the maximum Rényi or Tsallis entropy subject to an elliptic moment constraint is a generalized q-Gaussian, we show that the minimization of the generalized Fisher information also leads a generalized q-Gaussian. This yields a generalized Cramér-Rao inequality. In addition, we show that the generalized Fisher information naturally pops up in a …
An instructive and apparently simple model of fully-coupled rotators, the so-called Hamiltonian Mean Field (HMF) model, together with a generalized version with variable interaction range, have revealed a very complex out-of-equilibrium dynamics which can be considered paradigmatic for nonextensive systems. In this short paper we illustrate the interesting anomalous pre-equilibrium dynamics, focusing on the novel connections to the generalized nonextensive thermostatistics and the recent links to glassy systems.
We comment on some open questions and theoretical peculiarities in Tsallis nonextensive statistical mechanics. It is shown that the theoretical basis of the successful Tsallis' generalized exponential distribution shows some worrying properties with the conventional normalization and the escort probability. These theoretical difficulties may be avoided by introducing an so called incomplete normalization allowing to deduce Tsallis' generalized distribution in a more convincing and consistent way.
We show that the dynamical and entropic properties at the chaos threshold of the logistic map are naturally linked through the nonextensive expressions for the sensitivity to initial conditions and for the entropy. We corroborate analytically, with the use of the Feigenbaum renormalization group(RG) transformation, the equality between the generalized Lyapunov coefficient $λ_{q}$ and the rate of entropy production $K_{q}$ given by the nonextensive statistical mechanics. Our results advocate the validity of the $q$-generalized Pesin identity at critical points of one-dimensional nonlinear dissi…
Nonextensive aspects of the degree distribution in Watts-Strogatz (WS) small-world networks, $P_{SW}(k)$, have been discussed in terms of a generalized Gaussian (referred to as {\it $Q$-Gaussian}) which is derived by the three approaches: the maximum-entropy method (MEM), stochastic differential equation (SDE), and hidden-variable distribution (HVD). In MEM, the degree distribution $P_Q(k)$ in complex networks has been obtained from $Q$-Gaussian by maximizing the nonextensive information entropy with constraints on averages of $k$ and $k^2$ in addition to the normalization condition. In SDE, $…
A unified presentation of the perturbation and variational methods for the generalized statistical mechanics based on Tsallis entropy is given here. In the case of the variational method, the Bogoliubov inequality is generalized in a very natural way following the Feynman proof for the usual statistical mechanics. The inequality turns out to be form-invariant with respect to the entropic index $q$. The method is illustrated with a simple example in classical mechanics. The formalisms developed here are expected to be useful in the discussion of nonextensive systems.
The porous media equation has been proposed as a phenomenological ``non-extensive'' generalization of classical diffusion. Here, we show that a very similar equation can be derived, in a systematic manner, for a classical fluid by assuming nonlinear response, i.e. that the diffusive flux depends on gradients of a power of the concentration. The present equation distinguishes from the porous media equation in that it describes \emph{% generalized classical} diffusion, i.e. with $r/\sqrt Dt$ scaling, but with a generalized Einstein relation, and with power-law probability distributions typical o…
The generalized Gibbs free energy and enthalpy is derived in the framework of nonextensive thermodynamics by using the so-called physical temperature and the physical pressure. Some thermodynamical relations are studied by considering the difference between the physical temperature and the inverse of Lagrange multiplier. The thermodynamical relation between the heat capacities at a constant volume and at a constant pressure is obtained using the generalized thermodynamical potential, which is found to be different from the traditional one in Gibbs thermodynamics. But, the expressions for the h…
Given an original distribution, its statistical and probabilistic attributs may be scanned by the associated escort distribution introduced by Beck and Schlogl and employed in the formulation of nonextensive statistical mechanics. Here, the geometric structure of the one-parameter family of the escort distributions is studied based on the Kullback-Leibler divergence and the relevant Fisher metric. It is shown that the Fisher metric is given in terms of the generalized bit-variance, which measures fluctuations of the crowding index of a multifractal. The Cramer-Rao inequality leads to the funda…
Maxwell's first derivation of the equilibrium distribution function for a dilute gas is generalized in the spirit of the nonextensive q-statistics proposed by Tsallis. As an application, the q-Doppler broadening of spectral lines due to the random thermal motion of the radiating atoms is derived.
The form invariance of pseudoadditivity is shown to determine the structure of nonextensive entropies. Nonextensive entropy is defined as the appropriate expectation value of nonextensive information content, similar to the definition of Shannon entropy. Information content in a nonextensive system is obtained uniquely from generalized axioms by replacing the usual additivity with pseudoadditivity. The satisfaction of the form invariance of the pseudoadditivity of nonextensive entropy and its information content is found to require the normalization of nonextensive entropies. The proposed prin…
Statistical mechanics is generalized on the basis of an information theory for inexact or incomplete probability distributions. A parameterized normalization is proposed and leads to a nonextensive entropy. The resulting incomplete statistical mechanics is proved to have the same theoretical characteristics as Tsallis one based on the conventional normalization.
The instability of current-driven ion-acoustic waves in the collisionless magnetic-field-free space plasma is investigated by using a nonextensive approach. The ions and the electrons are thought of in the power-law distributions that can be described by the generalized q-Maxwellian velocity distribution and are considered with the different nonextensive q-parameters. The generalized q-wave frequency and the generalized instability q-growth rate for the ion-acoustic waves are derived. The numerical results show that the nonextensive effects on the ion-acoustic waves are not apparent when the e…
Feynman's path integral is herein generalized to the nonextensive canonical density matrix based on Tsallis entropy. This generalization is done in two ways by using unnormalized and normalized constraints. Firstly, we consider the path integral formulation with unnormalized constraints, and this generalization is worked out through two different ways, which are shown to be equivalent. These formulations with unnormalized constraints are solutions to two generalized Bloch equations proposed in this work. The first form of the generalized Bloch equation is linear, but with a temperature-depende…
The Jeans gravitational instability in nonextensive statistical mechanics is studied and a general form of the generalized Jeans criterion is obtained that is related to the q-function . In this approach, the nonextensive model of classical ideal gas is applied to the Jeans problem instead of the ordinary one in extensive statistical mechanics and the generalized critical wavelength to describe the gravitational instability is deduced. This nonextensive modification of the Jeans criterion leads to a new critical length that depends not only on the nonextensive parameter q but also on the dimen…
We study the current density and transport coefficients in the fully ionized plasma with the q-distributions in nonextensive statistics and in strong magnetic field. By using the generalized Boltzmann transport equation in nonextensive statistics, we derive the current density and the expressions of the transport coefficients, including the conductivity, the thermoelectric coefficient, the Hall coefficient, and the Nernst coefficient. It is shown that these new transport coefficients has been generalized to the nonequilibrium complex plasmas with q-distributions in nonextensive statistics, whi…
The properties of the nonextensive parameter q and the Tsallis distribution for self-gravitating systems are studied. A mathematical expression of q is deduced based on the generalized Boltzmann equation, the q-H theorem and the generalized Maxwellian q-velocity distribution in the framework of Tsallis statistics. We obtain a clear understanding of the physics of q different from unity with regard to the temperature gradient and the gravitational potential of the self-gravitating systems. It is suggested that the Tsallis statistics could be statistics suitable for describing the nonequilibrium…
We study generalizations of Itô-Langevin dynamics consistent within nonextensive thermostatistics. The corresponding stochastic differential equations are shown to be connected with a wide class of nonlinear Fokker-Planck equations describing correlated anomalous diffusion in fractals. A generalized central limit theorem is proposed in order to demonstrate how such equations emerge as a limit of correlated random variables. In doing so, we connect microscopic and macroscopic descriptions of correlated anomalous diffusion in a mathematically sound way and shed some light in explaining why $q$-G…
With the help of a general expression of the entropies in extensive and nonextensive systems, some important relations between thermodynamics and statistical mechanics are revealed through the views of thermodynamics and statistic physics. These relations are proved through the MaxEnt approach once again. It is found that for a reversible isothermal process, the information contained in the first and second laws of thermodynamics and the MaxEnt approach is equivalent. Moreover, these relations are used to derive the probability distribution functions in nonextensive and extensive statistics an…
Generalized Bose-Einstein (BE) and Fermi-Dirac (FD) distributions in nonextensive quantum statistics have been discussed by the maximum-entropy method (MEM) with the optimum Lagrange multiplier based on the exact integral representation [Rajagopal, Mendes, and Lenzi, Phys. Rev. Lett. {\bf 80}, 3907 (1998)]. It has been shown that the $(q-1)$ expansion in the exact approach agrees with the result obtained by the asymptotic approach valid for $O(q-1)$. Model calculations have been made with a uniform density of states for electrons and with the Debye model for phonons. Based on the result of the…
Variational principles for the rate distortion (RD) theory in lossy compression are formulated within the ambit of the generalized nonextensive statistics of Tsallis, for values of the nonextensivity parameter satisfying $ 0 < q < 1 $ and $ q > 1 $. Alternating minimization numerical schemes to evaluate the nonextensive RD function, are derived. Numerical simulations demonstrate the efficacy of generalized statistics RD models.
The statistical properties of fully developed hydrodynamic turbulence can be successfully described using methods from nonextensive statistical mechanics. The predicted probability densities and scaling exponents precisely coincide with what is measured in various turbulence experiments. As a dynamical basis for nonextensive behaviour we consider nonlinear Langevin equations with fluctuating friction forces, where Tsallis statistics can be rigorously proved.
The effect of nonextensivity of self-gravitating systems on the Jeans criterion for gravitational instability is studied in the framework of Tsallis statistics. The nonextensivity is introduced in the Jeans problem by a generalized q-nonextensive velocity distribution function through the equation of state of ideal gas in nonextensive kinetic theory. A new Jeans criterion is deduced with a factor that, however, differs from that one in Ref.[21] and new results of gravitational instability are analyzed for the nonextensive parameter q. An understanding of physical meaning of q and a possible se…
The nonextensive statistical ensembles are revisited for the complex systems with long-range interactions and long-range correlations. An approximation, the value of nonextensive parameter (1-q) is assumed to be very tiny, is adopted for the limit of large particle number for most normal systems. In this case, Tsallis entropy can be expanded as a function of energy and particle number fluctuation, and thus the power-law forms of the generalized Gibbs distribution and grand canonical distribution can be derived. These new distribution functions can be applied to derive the free energy and grand…
This paper deals with Cramér-Rao inequalities in the context of nonextensive statistics and in estimation theory. It gives characterizations of generalized q-Gaussian distributions, and introduces generalized versions of Fisher information. The contributions of this paper are (i) the derivation of new extended Cramér-Rao inequalities for the estimation of a parameter, involving general q-moments of the estimation error, (ii) the derivation of Cramér-Rao inequalities saturated by generalized q-Gaussian distributions, (iii) the definition of generalized Fisher informations, (iv) the identificati…
Recently it has been shown by the present author [H. Hasegawa, Phys. Rev. E (in press): arXiv:0904.2399] that the interpolation approximation (IA) to the generalized Bose-Einstein and Femi-Dirac distributions yields results in agreement with the exact ones within the $O(q-1)$ and in high- and low-temperature limits, where $(q-1)$ expresses the non-extensivity: the case of $q=1$ corresponding to the conventional quantal distributions. In this study, we have applied the generalized distributions in the IA to typical nonextensive subjects: (1) the black-body radiation, (2) the Bose-Einstein conde…
We introduce a new universality class of one-dimensional iteration model giving rise to self-similar motion, in which the Feigenbaum constants are generalized as self-similar rates and can be predetermined. The curves of the mean-square displacement versus time generated here show that the motion is a kind of anomalous diffusion with the diffusion coefficient depending on the self-similar rates. In addition, it is found that the distribution of displacement agrees to a reliable precision with the q-Gaussian type distribution in some cases and bimodal distribution in some other cases. The resul…
The Shannon-Khinchin axioms for the ordinary information entropy are generalized in a natural way to the nonextensive systems based on the concept of nonextensive conditional entropy, and a complete proof of the uniqueness theorem for the Tsallis entropy is presented.
The joint eigenvalue distributions of random-matrix ensembles are derived by applying the principle maximum entropy to the Renyi, Abe and Kaniadakis entropies. While the Renyi entropy produces essentially the same matrix-element distributions as the previously obtained expression by using the Tsallis entropy, and the Abe entropy does not lead to a closed form expression, the Kaniadakis entropy leads to a new generalized form of the Wigner surmise that describes a transition of the spacing distribution from chaos to order. This expression is compared with the corresponding expression obtained b…
A nonextensive thermostatic approach to chaotic dynamical systems is developed by expressing generalized Tsallis distribution as escort distribution. We explicitly show the thermodynamic limit and also derive the Legendre Transform structure. As an application, bit variance is calculated for ergodic logistic map. Consistency of the formalism demands a relation between box size ($ε$) and degree of nonextensivity, given as $(1-q)\sim -1/{\rm ln} ε$. This relation is numerically verified for the case of bit variance as well as using basic definition of Tsallis entropy.
A generalized definition of average, termed the q-average, is widely employed in the field of nonextensive statistical mechanics. Recently, it has however been pointed out that such an average value may behave unphysical under specific deformations of probability distributions. Here, the following three issues are discussed and clarified. Firstly, the deformations considered are physical and may experimentally be realized. Secondly, in view of thermostatistics, the q-average is unstable in both finite and infinite discrete systems. Thirdly, a naive generalization of the discussion to continuou…
By using the generalized Boltzmann equation of transport in nonextensive statistics, we study transport properties of the diffusion flux and the heat flux of charged particles in the weakly ionized plasma with the power-law q-distributions under the magnetic field. We derive the tensor expressions of diffusion coefficient, thermal diffusion coefficient, mobility and thermal conductivity of electrons and ions in the q-distributed plasma under magnetic field. We show that the tensors of the diffusion coefficient, the thermal diffusion coefficient and the thermal conductivity are strongly depend …
In nonextensive statistical mechanics, two kinds of definitions have been considered for expectation valu of a physical quantity: one is the ordinary definition and the other is the normalized q-expectation value employing the escort distribution. Since both of them lead to the maximum-Tsallis-entropy distributions of a similar type, it is of crucial importance to determine which the correct physical one is. A point is that the definition of expectation value is indivisibly connected to the form of generalized relative entropy. Studying the properties of the relative entropies associated with …
We study the effect of magnetic field on the viscosity of charged particles in the weakly ionized and magnetized plasma with the power-law q-distributions by using the generalized Boltzmann equation of transport in nonextensive statistics. We derive six viscosity coefficients of electrons and ions in the complex plasma, including the magnetic field introduced four viscosity coefficients, where the q-parameter and magnetic field both play significant roles. By numerical analyses, we show that these viscosity coefficients depend strongly on the magnetic field and q-parameters of the weakly ioniz…
Magnetic and thermodynamical properties of itinerant-electron (metallic) ferromagnets described by the Hubbard model have been discussed with the use of the generalized Fermi-Dirac (GFD) distribution for nonextensive quantum systems. We have derived the GFD distribution within the superstatistics, which is equivalent to that obtained by the maximum-entropy method to the Tsallis entropy with the factorization approimation. By using the Hartree-Fock approximation to the electron-electron interaction in the Hubbard model, we have calculated magnetic moment, energy, specific heat and Curie-Weiss-t…
The dust charging processes in the collections of electrons and ions in the nonequilibrium dusty plasma with power-law distributions are investigated on the basic of a new q-distribution function theory in nonextensive statistics. Electrons and ions obey the power-law distributions and are with q-parameters different from each other. We derive the generalized formulae for the dust charging currents in which the nonextensive effects play roles. Further we investigate the dust charging processes taking place in the homogeneous dusty plasma where only the particle velocities are power-law distrib…
We analyze the cumulative distribution of total personal income of USA counties, and gross domestic product of Brazilian, German and United Kingdom counties, and also of world countries. We verify that generalized exponential distributions, related to nonextensive statistical mechanics, describe almost the whole spectrum of the distributions (within acceptable errors), ranging from the low region to the middle region, and, in some cases, up to the power-law tail. The analysis over about 30 years (for USA and Brazil) shows a regular pattern of the parameters appearing in the present phenomenolo…
Engle's ARCH algorithm is a generator of stochastic time series for financial returns (and similar quantities) characterized by a time-dependent variance. It involves a memory parameter $b$ ($b=0$ corresponds to {\it no memory}), and the noise is currently chosen to be Gaussian. We assume here a generalized noise, namely $q_n$-Gaussian, characterized by an index $q_{n} \in {\cal R}$ ($q_{n}=1$ recovers the Gaussian case, and $q_n>1$ corresponds to tailed distributions). We then match the second and fourth momenta of the ARCH return distribution with those associated with the $q$-Gaussian distr…
A self-consistent thermodynamic framework is presented for power-law canonical distributions based on the generalized central limit theorem by extending the discussion given by Khinchin for deriving Gibbsian canonical ensemble theory. The thermodynamic Legendre transform structure is invoked in establishing its connection to nonextensive statistical mechanics.
We propose generalized bit cumulants for chaotic systems, within nonextensive thermodynamic approach. In this work, we apply the first and second generalized cumulants to one dimensional logistic and logistic-like family of maps.
The classical Gaussian ensembles of random matrices can be constructed by maximizing Boltzmann-Gibbs-Shannon's entropy, S_{BGS} = - \int d{\bf H} [P({\bf H})] \ln [P({\bf H})], with suitable constraints. Here we construct and analyze random-matrix ensembles arising from the generalized entropy S_q = (1 - \int d{\bf H} [P({\bf H})]^q)/(q-1) (thus S_1=S_{BGS}). The resulting ensembles are characterized by a parameter q measuring the degree of nonextensivity of the entropic form. Making q -> 1 recovers the Gaussian ensembles. If q \ne 1, the joint probability distributions P(\bf H) cannot be fact…
The standard central limit theorem plays a fundamental role in Boltzmann-Gibbs statistical mechanics. This important physical theory has been generalized \cite{Tsallis1988} in 1988 by using the entropy $S_q = \frac{1-\sum_i p_i^q}{q-1}$ (with $q \in \mathcal{R}$) instead of its particular BG case $S_1=S_{BG}= -\sum_i p_i \ln p_i$. The theory which emerges is usually referred to as {\it nonextensive statistical mechanics} and recovers the standard theory for $q=1$. During the last two decades, this $q$-generalized statistical mechanics has been successfully applied to a considerable amount of p…
Using the Generalized Maximium Entropy Principle based on the nonextensive q entropy a new family of random matrix ensembles is generated. This family unifies previous extensions of Random Matrix Theory and gives rise to an orthogonal invariant stable Levy ensemble with new statistical properties. Some of them are analytically derived.
Memory effects in transport require, for their incorporation into reaction diffusion investigations, a generalization of traditional equations. The well-known Fisher's equation, which combines diffusion with a logistic nonlinearity, is generalized to include memory effects and traveling wave solutions of the equation are found. Comparison is made with alternate generalization procedures.
