We eliminate the possibility of "escape of mass" for Hecke-Maass forms of large eigenvalue for the modular group. Combined with the work of Lindenstrauss, this establishes the Quantum Unique Ergodicity conjecture of Rudnick and Sarnak for the modular surface SL_2(Z)\H.
In this paper we give a new proof of the Quantum Unique Ergodicity conjecture for holomorphic integral weight modular forms on the upper half plane. The proof requires only partial results towards the Ramanujan conjecture and the shifted convolution problem. Furthermore the proof is applicable to a wider class of cusp forms other than Hecke eigenforms. We also prove some interesting corollaries, particularly towards the Lehmer's conjecture on the non vanishing of the Fourier coefficients.
We prove a variety of quantum unique ergodicity results for Eisenstein series in the level aspect. A new feature of this variant of QUE is that the main term involves the logarithmic derivative of a Dirichlet $L$-function on the $1$-line. A zero of this $L$-function near the $1$-line can thus have a distorting effect on the main term. We obtain quantitative control on the test function and thereby prove an asymptotic formula in the level aspect version of the problem with test functions of shrinking support. Surprisingly, this asymptotic formula shows some obstruction to equidistribution that …
We consider some analogs of the quantum unique ergodicity conjecture for geodesics, horocycles, or ``shrinking'' families of sets. In particular, we prove the analog of the QUE conjecture for Eisenstein series restricted to the infinite geodesic connecting 0 and infinity inside the modular surface.
We show that Landau-Siegel zeros for Dirichlet $L$-functions do not exist or quantum unique ergodicity for $\mathrm{GL}_2$ Hecke-Maass newforms holds with an effective rate of convergence. This follows from a more general result: Landau-Siegel zeros of Dirichlet $L$-functions repel the zeros of all other automorphic $L$-functions from the line $\mathrm{Re}(s)=1$.
The problem of quantum unique ergodicity (QUE) of weight 1/2 Eisenstein series for Γ_0(4) leads to the study of certain double Dirichlet series involving GL2 automorphic forms and Dirichlet characters. We study the analytic properties of this family of double Dirichlet series (analytic continuation, convexity estimate) and prove that a subconvex estimate implies the QUE result.
We prove the arithmetic quantum unique ergodicity (AQUE) conjecture for non-degenerate sequences of Hecke eigenfunctions on quotients $Γ\backslash G/K$, where $G\simeq\mathrm{PGL}_{d}(\mathbb{R})$, $K$ is a maximal compact subgroup of $G$ and $Γ<G$ is a lattice associated to a division algebra over $\mathbb{Q}$ of prime degree $d$. More generally, we introduce a new method of proving positive entropy of quantum limits, which applies to higher-rank groups. The result on AQUE is obtained by combining this with a measure-rigidity theorem due to Einsiedler-Katok, following a strategy first pioneer…
We study the limiting behavior of Maass forms on Benjamini-Schramm convergent sequences of compact quotients of ${\rm SL}_d(\mathbb{R})/{\rm SO}(d)$, $d\ge 3$, whose spectral parameter stays in a fixed window. We prove a form of Quantum Ergodicity in this level aspect which extends results of Le Masson and Sahlsten to the higher rank case.
We investigate the analogue of the Quantum Unique Ergodicity (QUE) conjecture for half-integral weight automorphic forms. Assuming the Generalized Riemann Hypothesis (GRH) we establish QUE for both half-integral weight holomorphic Hecke cusp forms for $Γ_0(4)$ lying in Kohnen's plus subspace and for half-integral weight Hecke Maaß cusp forms for $Γ_0(4)$ lying in Kohnen's plus subspace. By combining the former result along with an argument of Rudnick, it follows that under GRH the zeros of these holomorphic Hecke cusp equidistribute with respect to hyperbolic measure on $Γ_0(4)\backslash \math…
We prove an analogue of Shnirelman, Zelditch and Colin de Verdiere's Quantum Ergodicity Theorems in a case where there is no underlying classical ergodicity. The system we consider is the Laplacian with a delta potential on the square torus. There are two types of wave functions: old eigenfunctions of the Laplacian, which are not affected by the scatterer, and new eigenfunctions which have a logarithmic singularity at the position of the scatterer. We prove that a full density subsequence of the new eigenfunctions equidistribute in phase space. Our estimates are uniform with respect to the cou…
We study a refinement of the quantum unique ergodicity conjecture for shrinking balls on arithmetic hyperbolic manifolds, with a focus on dimensions $ 2 $ and $ 3 $. For the Eisenstein series for the modular surface $\mathrm{PSL}_2( {\mathbb Z}) \backslash \mathbb{H}^2$ we prove failure of quantum unique ergodicity close to the Planck-scale and an improved bound for its quantum variance. For arithmetic $ 3 $-manifolds we show that quantum unique ergodicity of Hecke-Maaß forms fails on shrinking balls centered on an arithmetic point and radius $ R \asymp t_j^{-δ} $ with $ δ> 3/4 $. For $ \mathr…
We prove that arithmetic quantum unique ergodicity holds on compact arithmetic quotients of $GL(2,\mathbb{Q}_p)$ for automorphic forms belonging to the principal series. We interpret this conclusion in terms of the equidistribution of eigenfunctions on covers of a fixed regular graph or along nested sequences of regular graphs. Our results are the first of their kind on any p-adic arithmetic quotient. They may be understood as analogues of Lindenstrauss's theorem on the equidistribution of Maass forms on a compact arithmetic surface. The new ingredients here include the introduction of a repre…
