Although the study of weak convergence of superpositions of point processes to the Poisson process dates back to the work of Grigelionis in 1963, it was only recently that Schuhmacher [Stochastic Process. Appl. 115 (2005) 1819--1837] obtained error bounds for the weak convergence. Schuhmacher considered dependent superposition, truncated the individual point processes to 0--1 point processes and then applied Stein's method to the latter. In this paper, we adopt a different approach to the problem by using Palm theory and Stein's method, thereby expressing the error bounds in terms of the mean measures of the individual point processes, which is not possible with Schuhmacher's approach. We consider locally dependent superposition as a generalization of the locally dependent point process introduced in Chen and Xia [Ann. Probab. 32 (2004) 2545--2569] and apply the main theorem to the superposition of thinned point processes and of renewal processes.
The Poisson process of order $i$ is a weighted sum of independent Poisson processes and is used to model the flow of clients in different services. In the paper below we study some extensions of this process, for different forms of the weights and also with the time-changed versions, with Bern\v stein subordinator playing the role of time. We focus on the analysis of hitting times of these processes obtaining sometimes explicit distributions. Since all the processes examined display a similar structure with multiple upward jumps sometimes they can skip all states with positive probability even…
In this article, we introduce fractional Poisson felds of order k in n-dimensional Euclidean space $R_n^+$. We also work on time-fractional Poisson process of order k, space-fractional Poisson process of order k and tempered version of time-space fractional Poisson process of order k in one dimensional Euclidean space $R_1^+$. These processes are defined in terms of fractional compound Poisson processes. Time-fractional Poisson process of order k naturally generalizes the Poisson process and Poisson process of order k to a heavy tailed waiting times counting process. The space-fractional Poiss…
We derive concentration inequalities for maxima of empirical processes associated with Poisson point processes. The proofs are based on a careful application of Ledoux's entropy method. We demonstrate the utility of the obtained concentration inequalities by application to adaptive intensity estimation.
In this paper, we prove that ergodic point processes with moments of all orders, driven by particular infinite measure preserving transformations, have to be a superposition of shifted Poisson processes. This rigidity result has a lot of implications in terms of joining and disjointness for the corresponding Poisson suspension. In particular, we prove that its ergodic self-joinings are Poisson joinings, which provides an analog, in the Poissonian context, of the GAG property for Gaussian dynamical systems.
One of the main differences between the central limit theorem and the Poisson law of small numbers is that the former possesses the large sample property (LSP), i.e., the error of normal approximation to the sum of $n$ independent identically distributed (i.i.d.) random variables is a decreasing function of $n$. Since 1980's, considerable effort has been devoted to recovering the LSP for the law of small numbers in discrete random variable approximation. In this paper, we aim to establish the LSP for the superposition of i.i.d. point processes.
Poisson shot noise processes are natural generalizations of compound Poisson processes that have been widely applied in insurance, neuroscience, seismology, computer science and epidemiology. In this paper we study sharp deviations, fluctuations and the stable probability approximation of Poisson shot noise processes. Our achievements extend, improve and complement existing results in the literature. We apply the theoretical results to Poisson cluster point processes, including generalized linear Hawkes processes, and risk processes with delayed claims. Many examples are discussed in detail.
Some martingale characterizations of compound mixed Poisson processes are proven, extending S. Watanabe's (1964) martingale characterization of Poisson processes as well as the main result of Lyberopoulos and Macheras (2012), concerning martingale characterizations of mixed Poisson processes.
In the paper we consider time-changed Poisson processes where the time is expressed by compound Poisson-Gamma subordinators $G(N(t))$ and derive the expressions for their hitting times. We also study the time-changed Poisson processes where the role of time is played by the processes of the form $G(N(t)+at)$ and by the iteration of such processes.
In this article, we derive the state probabilities of different type of space- and time-fractional Poisson processes using z-transform. We work on tempered versions of time-fractional Poisson process and space-fractional Poisson processes. We also introduce Gegenbauer type fractional differential equations and their solutions using z-transform. Our results generalize and complement the result available on fractional Poisson processes in several directions.
We study point processes that consist of certain centers of point tuples of an underlying Poisson process. Such processes arise in stochastic geometry in the study of exceedances of various functionals describing geometric properties of the Poisson process. We use a coupling of the point process with its Palm version to prove a general Poisson limit theorem. We then combine our general result with the theory of asymptotic shapes of large cells (Kendall's problem) in random mosaics and prove Poisson limit theorems for large cells (with respect to a general size functional) in the Poisson-Vorono…
In the paper we present the governing equations for marginal distributions of Poisson and Skellam processes time-changed by inverse subordinators. The equations are given in terms of convolution-type derivatives.
We introduce two non-homogeneous processes: a fractional non-homogeneous Poisson process of order $k$ and and a fractional non-homogeneous Pólya-Aeppli process of order $k$. We characterize these processes by deriving their non-local governing equations. We further study the covariance structure of the processes and investigate the long-range dependence property.
As part of a general theory for the isomorphism problem for actions of amenable groups, Ornstein and Weiss (J. Anal. Math. 48:1-141,1987) proved that any two Poisson point processes are isomorphic as measure-preserving actions. We give an elementary construction of an isomorphism between Poisson point processes that is finitary.
We discuss a thinning and an embedding procedure to construct finite Gibbs processes with a given Papangelou intensity. Extending the approach in Hofer-Temmel (2019) and Hofer-Temmel and Houdebert (2019) we will use this to couple two finite Gibbs processes with different boundary conditions. As one application we will establish Poisson approximation of point processes derived from certain infinite volume Gibbs processes via dependent thinning. As another application we shall discuss empty space probabilities of certain Gibbs processes.
We investigate approximation of a Bernoulli partial sum process to the accompanying Poisson process in the non-i.i.d. case. The rate of closeness is studied in terms of the minimal distance in probability.
Randomly scaled scale-decorated Poisson point process is introduced recently in Bhattacharya et al. [2017] where it appeared as weak limit of a sequence of point processes in the context of branching random walk. In this article, we obtain a characterization for these processes based on scaled-Laplace functional. As a consequence, we obtain a characterization for strictly $α$-stable point process (also known as scale-decorated Poisson point process) based on scaled-Laplace functional . a connection with randomly shifted decorated Poisson point process is obtained. The tools and approach used e…
In this paper, we introduce the concept of \emph{Poissonian occupation times} below level $0$ of spectrally negative Lévy processes. In this case, occupation time is accumulated only when the process is observed to be negative at arrival epochs of an independent Poisson process. Our results extend some well known continuously observed quantities involving occupation times of spectrally negative Lévy processes. As an application, we establish a link between Poissonian occupation times and insurance risk models with Parisian implementation delays.
Consider a system consisting of multiple sockets into each of which a component is inserted. If a component fails, it is replaced immediately and system operation resumes. Then the failure process of the system is the superposition of renewal processes (or superimposed renewal process, SRP). If the label of the components that cause the system to fail are unknown but the times between failures are known, we refer to such data as {\it masked failure data}. To estimate the SRP based on masked failure data is challenging. This paper obtains the lower and upper bounds of the rate of the SRP when o…
Dynamical scaling is an asymptotic property typical for the dynamics of first-order phase transitions in physical systems and related to self-similarity. Based on the integral-representation for the marginal probabilities of a fractional non-homogeneous Poisson process introduced by Leonenko et al. (2017) and generalising the standard fractional Poisson process, we prove the dynamical scaling under fairly mild conditions. Our result also includes the special case of the standard fractional Poisson process.
We prove the Bernoulli property for determinantal point processes on $ \mathbb{R}^d $ with translation-invariant kernels. For the determinantal point processes on $ \mathbb{Z}^d $ with translation-invariant kernels, the Bernoulli property was proved by Lyons and Steif and Shirai and Takahashi. As its continuum version, we prove an isomorphism between the translation-invariant determinantal point processes on $ \mathbb{R}^d $ with translation-invariant kernels and homogeneous Poisson point processes. For this purpose, we also prove the Bernoulli property for the tree representations of the dete…
