Let $Ω$ be a domain in $\mathbb{R}^d$, $d\geq 2$, and $1<p<\infty$. Fix $V\in L_{\mathrm{loc}}^\infty(Ω)$. Consider the functional $Q$ and its Gâteaux derivative $Q^\prime$ given by $$Q(u):= \frac{1}{p}\int_Ω. (|\nabla u|^p+V|u|^p) \dx, Q^\prime (u):= -\nabla\cdot(|\nabla u|^{p-2}\nabla u)+V|u|^{p-2} u.$$ In this paper we discuss a few aspects of relations between functional-analytic properties of the functional $Q$ and properties of positive solutions of the equation $Q^\prime (u)=0$.
In this work we deal with the class of nonlinear (p,q)-Laplacian system. Non-existence results of positive weak solutions for this system are established.
In this paper, we study the multiplicity of positive solutions for the p-Laplacian systems with sign-changing weight functions. Using the decomposition of the Nehari manifold, we prove that an elliptic system has at least two positive solutions.
The Cauchy problem in $\mathbb{R}^d,$ $d\geq 1,$ for a non-local in time p-Laplacian equations is considered. The nonexistence of nontrivial global weak solutions by using the test function method is obtained.
We study a Dirichlet type problem for an equation involving the fractional Laplacian and a reaction term subject to either subcritical or critical growth conditions, depending on a positive parameter. Applying a critical point result of Bonanno, we prove existence of one or two positive solutions as soon as the parameter lies under a (explicitly determined) threshold. As an application, we find two positive solutions for a fractional Brezis-Nirenberg problem.
We study a nonlinear, nonlocal Dirichlet problem driven by the degenerate fractional p-Laplacian via a combination of topological methods (degree theory for operators of monotone type) and variational methods (critical point theory). We assume local conditions ensuring the existence of sub- and supersolutions. So we prove existence of two positive solutions, in both the coercive and noncoercive cases.
We consider nonlinear elliptic problems involving a nonlocal operator: the square root of the Laplacian in a bounded domain with zero Dirichlet boundary conditions. For positive solutions to problems with power nonlinearities, we establish existence and regularity results, as well as a priori estimates of Gidas-Spruck type. In addition, among other results, we prove a symmetry theorem of Gidas-Ni-Nirenberg type.
We consider a nonlinear elliptic equation driven by the Dirichlet $p$-Laplacian with a singular term and a $(p-1)$-linear perturbation which is resonant at $+\infty$ with respect to the principal eigenvalue. Using variational tools, together with suitable truncation and comparison techniques, we show the existence of at least two positive smooth solutions.
We propose analogues of Green's and Picone's identities for the $p$-sub-Laplacian on stratified Lie groups. In particular, these imply a generalised Díaz-Saá inequality for the $p$-sub-Laplacian on stratified Lie groups. Using these we derive a comparison principle and uniqueness of a positive solution to nonlinear hypoelliptic equations on general stratified Lie groups extending to the setting of the general stratified Lie groups previously known results on Euclidean and Heisenberg groups.
We make use of the Guo-Krasnoselskii fixed point theorem on cones to prove existence of positive solutions to a non local p-Laplacian boundary value problem on time scales arising in many applications.
In this paper, we prove the existence of unbounded sequence of eigenvalues for the fractional $p-$Laplacian with weight in $\mathbb{R}^N.$ We also show a nonexistence result when the weighthas positive integral. In addition, we show some qualitative properties of the first eigenfunction including a sharp decay estimate. Finally, we extend the decay result to the positive solutions of a Schrödinger type equation.
The paper is devoted to the existence of positive solutions of nonlinear elliptic equations with $p$-Laplacian. We provide a general topological degree that detects solutions of the problem $$ \{{array}{l} A(u)=F(u) u\in M {array}. $$ where $A:X\supset D(A)\to X^*$ is a maximal monotone operator in a Banach space $X$ and $F:M\to X^*$ is a continuous mapping defined on a closed convex cone $M\subset X$. Next, we apply this general framework to a class of partial differential equations with $p$-Laplacian under Dirichlet boundary conditions.
We prove existence of multiple positive solutions for a {\sl fractional scalar field equation} in a bounded domain, whenever $p$ tends to the critical Sobolev exponent. By means of the "photography method", we prove that the topology of the domain furnishes a lower bound on the number of positive solutions.
We study the existence of non-zero positive solutions of a class of systems of differential equations driven by fractional powers of the Laplacian. Our approach is based on the notion of fixed point index, and allows us to deal with non-local functional weights and functional boundary conditions. We present two examples to shed light on the type of functionals and growth conditions that can be considered with our approach.
We obtain, by using the Leggett-Williams fixed point theorem, sufficient conditions that ensure the existence of at least three positive solutions to some $p$-Laplacian boundary value problems on time scales.
In this paper we deal with the multiplicity of positive solutions to the fractional Laplacian equation \begin{equation*} (-Δ)^{\fracα{2}} u=λf(x)|u|^{q-2}u+|u|^{2^{*}_α-2}u, \quad\text{in}\,\,Ω, u=0,\text{on}\,\,\partialΩ, \end{equation*} where $Ω\subset \mathbb{R}^{N}(N\geq 2)$ is a bounded domain with smooth boundary, $0<α<2$, $(-Δ)^{\fracα{2}}$ stands for the fractional Laplacian operator, $f\in C(Ω\times\mathbb{R},\mathbb{R})$ may be sign changing and $λ$ is a positive parameter. We will prove that there exists $λ_{*}>0$ such that the problem has at least two positive solutions for each $λ…
We study the Lane-Emden system involving the logarithmic Laplacian: $$ \begin{cases} \ \mathcal{L}_Δu(x)=v^{p}(x) ,& x\in\mathbb{R}^{n},\\ \ \mathcal{L}_Δv(x)=u^{q}(x) ,& x\in\mathbb{R}^{n}, \end{cases} $$ where $p,q>1$ and $\mathcal{L}_Δ$ denotes the Logarithmic Laplacian arising as a formal derivative $\partial_s|_{s=0}(-Δ)^s$ of fractional Laplacians at $s=0.$ By using a direct method of moving planes for the logarithmic Laplacian, we obtain the symmetry and monotonicity of the positive solutions to the Lane-Emden system. We also establish some key ingredients needed in order to apply the m…
We present explicit formulas for solutions to nonhomogeneous boundary value problems involving any positive power of the Laplacian in the half-space. For non-integer powers the operator becomes nonlocal and this requires a suitable extension of Dirichlet-type boundary conditions. A key ingredient in our proofs is a point inversion transformation which preserves harmonicity and allows us to use known results for the ball. We include uniqueness statements, regularity estimates, and describe the growth or decay of solutions at infinity and at the boundary.
In this paper we prove the existence and uniqueness of positive classical solution of the fractional Laplacian with singular nonlinearity in a smooth bounded domain with zero Drichlet boundary conditions. By the method of sub-supersolution, we derive the existence of positive classical solution to the approximation problems. In order to obtain the regularity, we first establish the existence of weak solution for the fraction Laplacian. Thanks to \cite{XY}, the regularity follows from the boundedness of weak solution.
We consider a nonlinear elliptic equation driven by the Robin $p$-Laplacian plus an indefinite potential. In the reaction we have the competing effects of a strictly $(p-1)$-sublinear parametric term and of a $(p-1)$-linear and nonuniformly nonresonant term. We study the set of positive solutions as the parameter $λ>0$ varies. We prove a bifurcation-type result for large values of the positive parameter $λ$. Also, we show that for all admissible $λ>0$, the problem has a smallest positive solution $\overline{u}_λ$ and we study the monotonicity and continuity properties of the map $λ\mapsto\over…
This paper is concerned with variational continuation of branches of solutions for nonlinear boundary value problems, which involve the p-Laplacian, the indefinite nonlinearity, and depend on the real parameter $λ$. A special focus is made on the extreme value of Nehari manifold $λ^*$, which determines the threshold of applicability of Nehari manifold method. In the main result the existence of two branches of positive solutions for the cases where parameter $λ$ lies above the threshold $λ^*$ is obtained.
We study the behavior of positive solutions of p-Laplacian type elliptic equations of the form Q'(u) := -p-Laplacian(u) + V |u|^(p-2) u = 0 in Omega near an isolated singular point zeta, where 1 < p < inf, Omega is a domain in R^d with d > 1, and zeta = 0 or zeta = inf. We obtain removable singularity theorems for positive solutions near zeta. In particular, using a new three-spheres theorems for certain solutions of the above equation near zeta we prove that if V belongs to a certain Kato class near zeta and p>d (respectively, p<d), then any positive solution u of the equation Q'(u)=0 in a pu…
We establish the existence and multiplicity of positive solutions to the problems involving the fractional Laplacian: \begin{equation*} \left\{\begin{array}{lll} &(-Δ)^{s}u=λu^{p}+f(u),\,\,u>0 \quad &\mbox{in}\,\,Ω,\\ &u=0\quad &\mbox{in}\,\,\mathbb{R}^{N}\setminusΩ,\\ \end{array}\right. \end{equation*} where $Ω\subset \mathbb{R}^{N}$ $(N\geq 2)$ is a bounded smooth domain, $s\in (0,1)$, $p>0$, $λ\in \mathbb{R}$ and $(-Δ)^{s}$ stands for the fractional Laplacian. When $f$ oscillates near the origin or at infinity, via the variational argument we prove that the problem has arbitrarily many posi…
The paper is concerned with the existence of positive weak solutions for a new class of $\left( p,q\right) $-Laplacian elliptic systems in a bounded domain by means of the method of sub-super solutions. Particularly, we do not need any sign conditions for $γ\left( 0\right), g\left( 0\right), f\left( 0\right) $ and $h\left(0\right) $. Moreover, a multiplicity result is obtained when $γ\left(0\right)=g\left( 0\right)=f\left( 0\right)=h\left( 0\right)=0.$ Finally, we give some examples to verify our main results.
In this paper, we study the existence and uniqueness of positive solutions for the following nonlinear fractional elliptic equation: \begin{eqnarray*} (-Δ)^αu=λa(x)u-b(x)u^p&{\rm in}\,\,\R^N, \end{eqnarray*} where $ α\in(0,1) $, $ N\ge 2 $, $λ>0$, $a$ and $b$ are positive smooth function in $\R^N$ satisfying \[ a(x)\rightarrow a^\infty>0\quad {\rm and}\quad b(x)\rightarrow b^\infty>0\quad{\rm as}\,\,|x|\rightarrow\infty. \] Our proof is based on a comparison principle and existence, uniqueness and asymptotic behaviors of various boundary blow-up solutions for a class of elliptic equations invo…
In this article, we prove existence results of positive solutions for the following nonlinear elliptic problem with gradient terms: \begin{eqnarray*} \left\{\begin{array}{l@{\quad }l} (-Δ)^αu=f(x,u,v,\nabla u, \nabla v) &{\rm in}\,\,Ω,\\ (-Δ)^αv=g(x,u,v,\nabla u, \nabla v) &{\rm in}\,\,Ω,\\ u=v=0\,\,&{\rm in}\,\,\R^N\setminusΩ, \end{array} \right. \end{eqnarray*} where $(-Δ)^α$ denotes the fractional Laplacian and $ Ω$ is a smooth bounded domain in $ \R^N $. It shown that under some assumptions on $ f $ and $ g $, the problem has at least one positive solution $(u,v)$. Our proof is based on th…
Any positive power of the Laplacian is related via its Fourier symbol to a hypersingular integral with finite differences. We show how this yields a pointwise evaluation which is more flexible than other notions used so far in the literature for powers larger than 1; in particular, this evaluation can be applied to more general boundary value problems and we exhibit explicit examples. We also provide a natural variational framework and, using an asymptotic analysis, we prove how these hypersingular integrals reduce to polyharmonic operators in some cases. Our presentation aims to be as self-co…
It is well known that a single nonlinear fractional Schrödinger equation with a potential $V(x)$ and a small parameter $\varepsilon $ may have a positive solution that is concentrated at the nondegenerate minimum point of $V(x)$. In this paper, we can find two different positive solutions for two weakly coupled fractional Schrödinger systems with a small parameter $\varepsilon $ and two potentials $V_{1}(x)$ and $V_{2}(x)$ having the same minimum point are concentrated at the same point minimum point of $V_{1}(x)$ and $V_{2}\left(x\right) $. In fact that by using the energy estimates, Nehari m…
We study positive Liouville theorems and the asymptotic behavior of positive solutions of p-Laplacian type elliptic equations of the form Q'(u):= - pLaplace(u) + V |u|^{p-2} u = 0 in X, where X is a domain in R^d, d > 1, and 1<p<infty. We assume that the potential V has a Fuchsian type singularity at a point zeta, where either zeta=infty and X is a truncated C^2-cone, or zeta=0 and zeta is either an isolated point of a boundary of X or belongs to a C^2-portion of the boundary of X.
Applying the method of moving planes in integral forms, we establish radial symmetry for positive solutions to a class of semilinear equations involving the fractional Laplacian in the unit ball and obtain Liouville type theorems concerning the non-existence of positive solutions in the half space. The regularity of solutions are also investigated.
We consider the Dirichlet problem for positive solutions of the equation $-Δ_p (u) = f(u)$ in a convex, bounded, smooth domain $Ω\subset\R^N$, with $f$ locally Lipschitz continuous. \par We provide sufficient conditions guarantying $L^{\infty} $ a priori bounds for positive solutions of some elliptic equations involving the $p$-Laplacian and extend the class of known nonlinearities for which the solutions are $L^{\infty} $ a priori bounded. As a consequence we prove the existence of positive solutions in convex bounded domains.
We begin the paper with a Hopf's lemma for a fractional p-Laplacian problem on a half-space. Specifically speaking, we show that the derivative of the solution along the outward normal vector is strictly positive on the boundary of the half-space. Next we show that positive solutions to a fractional p-Laplacian equation possess certain Holder continuity up to the boundary.
In this paper we develop a new theory for the existence, localization and multiplicity of positive solutions for a class of non-variational,quasilinear, elliptic systems. In order to do this, we provide a fairly general abstract framework for the existence of fixed points of nonlinear operators acting on cones that satisfy an inequality of Harnack type. Our methodology relies on fixed point index theory. We also provide a non-existence result and an example to illustrate the theory.
This paper deals with existence and multiplicity of positive solutions for a quasilinear problem with Neumann boundary conditions, set in a ball. The problem admits at least one constant non-zero solution and it involves a nonlinearity that can be supercritical in the sense of Sobolev embeddings. The main tools used are variational techniques and the shooting method for ODE's. These results are contained in [6,3].
We study the following boundary value problem with a concave-convex nonlinearity: \begin{equation*} \left\{ \begin{array}{r c l l} -Δ_p u & = & Λ\,u^{q-1}+ u^{r-1} & \textrm{in }Ω, \\ u & = & 0 & \textrm{on }\partialΩ. \end{array}\right. \end{equation*} Here $Ω\subset \mathbb{R}^n$ is a bounded domain and $1<q<p<r<p^*$. It is well known that there exists a number $Λ_{q,r}>0$ such that the problem admits at least two positive solutions for $0<Λ<Λ_{q,r}$, at least one positive solution for $Λ=Λ_{q,r}$, and no positive solution for $Λ> Λ_{q,r}$. We show that \[ \lim_{q \to p} Λ_{q,r} = λ_1(p), \]…
We consider a Dirichlet type problem for a nonlinear, nonlocal equation driven by the degenerate fractional p-Laplacian, whose reaction combines a sublinear term depending on a positive parameter and an asymmetric perturbation (superlinear at positive infinity, at most linear at negative infinity). By means of critical point theory and Morse theory, we prove that, for small enough values of the parameter, such problem admits at least four nontrivial solutions: two positive, one negative, and one nodal. As a tool, we prove a Brezis-Oswald type comparison result.
In this paper, we first establish a narrow region principle and a decay at infinity theorem to extend the direct method of moving planes for general fractional $p$-Laplacian systems. By virtue of this method, we can investigate the qualitative properties of the following Schrödinger system with fractional $p$-Laplacian \begin{equation*} \left\{\begin{array}{r@{\ \ }c@{\ \ }ll} \left(-Δ\right)_{p}^{s}u+au^{p-1}& =&f(u,v), \\[0.05cm] \left(-Δ\right)_{p}^{t}v+bv^{p-1}& =&g(u,v), \end{array}\right. \end{equation*} where $0<s,\,t<1$ and $2<p<\infty$. We obtain the radial symmetry in the unit ball o…
In this paper, we consider the following fractional Laplacian system with one critical exponent and one subcritical exponent \begin{equation*} \begin{cases} (-Δ)^{s}u+μu=|u|^{p-1}u+λv & x\in \ \mathbb{R}^{N}, (-Δ)^{s}v+νv = |v|^{2^{\ast}-2}v+λu& x\in \ \mathbb{R}^{N},\\ \end{cases} \end{equation*} where $(-Δ)^{s}$ is the fractional Laplacian, $0<s<1,\ N>2s, \ λ<\sqrt{μν},\ 1<p<2^{\ast}-1~ and~\ 2^{\ast}=\frac{2N}{N-2s}$~ is the Sobolev critical exponent. By using the Nehari\ manifold, we show that there exists a $μ_{0}\in(0,1)$, such that when $0<μ\leqμ_{0}$, the system has a positive ground s…
We consider a class of parametric Schrödinger equations driven by the fractional $p$-Laplacian operator and involving continuous positive potentials and nonlinearities with subcritical or critical growth. By using variational methods and Ljusternik-Schnirelmann theory, we study the existence, multiplicity and concentration of positive solutions for small values of the parameter.
We prove a result of existence of positive solutions of the Dirichlet problem for $-Δ_p u=\mathrm{w}(x)f(u,\nabla u)$ in a bounded domain $Ω\subset\mathbb{R}^N$, where $Δ_p$ is the $p$-Laplacian and $\mathrm{w}$ is a weight function. As in previous results by the authors, and in contrast with the hypotheses usually made, no asymptotic behavior is assumed on $f$, but simple geometric assumptions on a neighborhood of the first eigenvalue of the $p$-Laplacian operator. We start by solving the problem in a radial domain by applying the Schauder Fixed Point Theorem and this result is used to constr…
We deal with the higher-order fractional Laplacians by two methods: the integral method and the system method. The former depends on the integral equation equivalent to the differential equation. The latter works directly on the differential equations. We first derive nonexistence of positive solutions, often known as the Liouville type theorem, for the integral and differential equations. Then through an delicate iteration, we show symmetry for positive solutions.
We study a Dirichlet problem driven by the degenerate fractional p-Laplacian and involving a nonlinear reaction, which depends on a positive parameter. The reaction is assumed to be (p-1)-sublinear near the origin and (p-1)-superlinear at infinity (including the concave-convex case). Following a variational approach based on a combination of critical point theory and suitable truncation techniques, we prove a bifurcation-type result for the existence of positive solutions.
We derive a priori bounds for positive supersolutions of $ - Δ_{p} u = ρ(x) f(u) $, where $p>1$ and $Δ_{p}$ is the $p$-Laplace operator, in a smooth bounded domain of $R^{N}$ with zero Dirichlet boundary conditions. We apply the results to nonlinear elliptic eigenvalue problem $ - Δ_{p} u = λf(u) $, with Dirichlet boundary condition, where $ f $ is a nondecreasing continuous differentiable function on $[0,\infty]$ such that $ f(0) > 0 $, $ f(t)^{\frac{1}{p-1}} $ is superlinear at infinity, and give sharp upper and lower bounds for the extremal parameter $ λ_{p}^{*} $. In particular, we conside…
In this paper, we establish the results on the existence, nonexistence and multiplicity of positive solutions to singular boundary value problems involving $φ$-Laplacian. Our approach is based on the fixed point index theory. The interesting point is that a result for the existence of three positive solutions is given.
We consider a Dirichlet type problem for a nonlinear, nonlocal equation driven by the degenerate fractional p-Laplacian, with a logistic type reaction depending on a positive parameter. In the subdiffusive and equidiffusive cases, we prove existence and uniqueness of the positive solution when the parameter lies in convenient intervals. In the superdiffusive case, we establish a bifurcation result. A new strong comparison result, of independent interest, plays a crucial role in the proof of such bifurcation result.
In this paper we prove the existence of at least one positive solution for the nonlocal semipositone problem \[ \displaystyle \left\{\begin{array}{rcll} (-Δ)_p^s(u) &=& λf(u) \qquad & \text{in} \ \ Ω \\u &=& 0 & \text{in} \ \ \mathbb{R}^N -Ω, \end{array}\right. \] whenever $λ>0$ is a sufficiently small parameter. Here $Ω\subseteq \mathbb{R}^N$ a bounded domain with $C^{1,1}$ boundary, $2\leqslant p <N$, $s\in (0,1)$ and $f$ superlineal and subcritical. We prove that if $λ>0$ is chosen sufficiently small the associated Energy Functional to the problem has a mountain pass structure and, therefor…
Let Ωbe a bounded connected, open set of \R^n with Lipschitz boundary. Let F be a suitable norm in \R^n and let Δ_F u be the so-colled Finsler Laplacian. In this paper we prove two inequalities for the first eigenvalue of Δ_F with Robin boundary conditions involving a positive function β. As a consequence of our result we obtain the asymptotic behavior of this eigenvalue when βis a positive constant which goes to zero.
This paper investigates the existence of positive solutions for m-point p-Laplacian fractional boundary value problem involving Riemann Liouville fractional integral boundary conditions on the half line via the Leray-Schauder Nonlinear Alternative theorem and the use and some properties of the Green function. As an application, an example is presented to demonstrate our main result.
In this paper we obtain symmetry and monotonicity results for positive solutions to some $p$-Laplacian cooperative systems in bounded domains involving first order terms and under zero Dirichlet boundary condition.
A Dirichlet problem driven by the $(p,q)$-Laplace operator and an asymmetric concave reaction with positive parameter is investigated. Four nontrivial smooth solutions (two positive, one negative, and the remaining nodal) are obtained once the parameter turns out to be sufficiently small. Under a oddness condition near the origin for the perturbation, a whole sequence of sign-changing solutions, which converges to zero, is produced.
In this paper we study the existence of positive smooth solutions for a class of singular (p(x),q(x))- Laplacian systems by using sub and supersolution methods.
