The electronic Raman scattering in overdoped (Y,Ca)Ba2Cu3Oy was investigated with changing hole concentration in the superconducting state. It was found that the superconducting responses such as the pair-breaking peaks in the A1g and B1g spectra and the anisotropy of the pair-breaking peak in XX and YY polarizations radically change at around the carrier doping p=0.19. Since both a- and c-axis resistivities strongly suggest the closing of pseudogap at p~0.18, the observed change at p=0.19 in superconducting Raman response is attributed to the electronic crossover due to the collapse of the pseudogap.
Single crystals of the optimally doped, moderately and strongly overdoped high temperature superconductor Tl2Ba2CuO6+x (Tl-2201) with Tc=80, 56 and 30K, respectively, have been investigated by polarized Raman scattering. By taking the peak position of the B_1g component of electronic Raman scattering as 2Delta_0 we found that the reduced gap value (2Delta_0/k_BT_c) strongly decreases with increasing doping. The behavior of the low frequency scattering for the B_1g and B_2g scattering components is similar for optimally doped and overdoped crystals and can be described by a w^3 - and w -law, re…
We report Raman scattering spectra for single crystals of overdoped Tl2Ba2CuO6+d (Tl-2201) at low temperatures. It was observed that the pair-breaking peaks in A1g and B1g spectra radically shift to lower energy with carrier doping. We interpret it as s-wave component mixing into d-wave, although the crystal structure is tetragonal. Since similar phenomena were observed also in YBa2Cu3Oy and Bi2Sr2CaCu2Oz, we conclude that s-wave mixing is a common property for overdoped high-Tc superconductors.
We address the issue of identifying the mediators of effective interactions in cuprates superconductors. Specifically, we use inversion theory to analyze Raman spectra of optimally and over-doped La$_{2-x}$Sr$_x$CuO$_4$ samples. This allows us to extract the so-called glue function without making any a priori assumption based on any specific model. We use instead two different techniques, namely the singular value decomposition and a multi-rectangle decomposition. With both techniques we find consistent results showing that: i) two distinct excitations are responsible for the glue function, wh…
A structural phase transformation in the CuO_2 planes of YBa_2Cu_3O_x has been observed at the onset of the overdoped regime, x=6.95. We have measured as a function of x the dimpling in the CuO_2 planes by EXAFS, and the O2,3 in-phase (A_1g) mode by Raman scattering. The data show for x>6.95 anomalously large static displacements of the Cu2 atoms off the O2,3 layer, and a gap in the distribution of the O2,3 in-phase Raman shifts. We conclude the structure of overdoped YBa_2Cu_3O_x to be a martensitic form of the structure most favourable for the superconductivity, and possibly at the origin of…
Inelastic light (Raman) scattering has been used to study electronic excitations and phonon anomalies in detwinned, slightly overdoped YBa$_2$Cu$_3$O$_{6.95}$ and moderately overdoped Y$_{0.85}$Ca$_{0.15}$Ba$_2$Cu$_3$O$_{6.95}$ single crystals. In both samples modifications of the electronic pair-breaking peaks when interchanging the a- and b-axis were observed. The lineshapes of several phonon modes involving plane and apical oxygen vibrations exhibit pronounced anisotropies with respect to the incident and scattered light field configurations. Based on a theoretical model that takes both ele…
We report the results of electronic Raman scattering experiments on an overdoped La(1.78)Sr(0.22)CuO(4) single crystal as a function of temperature. The scattering rate Gamma(w->0,T) has been determined from the normal state B(1g) spectra in the range 50 K < T < 300 K. Gamma(T) decreases linearly from 300 K to about 175 K and then undergoes a reduction with respect to the expected mean-field behavior. This trend suggests a crossover to pseudoscaling regime at about T(cr)=160 K. The results are in good agreement with the prediction of the nearly antiferromagnetic Fermi liquid model. There is no…
We report the doping evolution of magnetic susceptibility $χ(T)$ and Hall coefficient $R_H$ in high quality Ba$_{1-x}$K$_x$Fe$_2$As$_2$ ($0.13 \leq x \leq 1$) single crystals. It is found that the normal-state magnetic susceptibility of Ba$_{1-x}$K$_x$Fe$_2$As$_2$ compounds undergoes a crossover from linear-$T$ dependence in the undoped and underdoped samples into KFe$_2$As$_2$-type magnetic response in the overdoped samples with increasing K content. Hall coefficient $R_H$ of underdoped sample $x$=0.22 shows a rapid increase above spin-density-wave transition temperature $T_{SDW}$. Below $T_{…
Recent Raman experiments [F. Venturini et al., Phys. Rev. Lett. {\bf 89}, 107003-1,(2002)] done in $Bi_2 Sr_2 Ca Cu_2 O_4$ have found that antinodal quasiparticles become insulating when the doping is varied from overdoped to optimally doped while nodal quasiparticles remain metallic. We propose a simple explanation based on the incoherence of the spectral function in the antinodal direction due to the strong scattering suffered by the quasiparticles in the proximity of the Van Hove singularity.
We perform a detailed study of temperature, bias and doping dependance of interlayer transport in the layered high temperature superconductor Bi$_2$Sr$_2$CaCu$_2$O$_{8+δ}$. We observe that the shape of interlayer characteristics in underdoped crystals exhibit a remarkable crossover at the superconducting transition temperature: from thermal activation-type at $T>T_c$, to almost $T-$independent quantum tunneling-type, at $T<T_c$. Our data indicates that the interlayer transport mechanism may change with doping: from the conventional single quasiparticle tunneling in overdoped, to a progressivel…
Angle resolved photoemission spectroscopy (ARPES) and resistivity measurements are used to explore the overdoped region of the high temperature superconductor Bi2Sr2CaCu2O8+delta. We find evidence for a new crossover line in the phase diagram between a coherent metal phase for lower temperatures and higher doping, and an incoherent metal phase for higher temperatures and lower doping. The former is characterized by two well-defined spectral peaks in ARPES due to coherent bilayer splitting and superlinear behavior in the resistivity, whereas the latter is characterized by a single broad spectra…
Raman scattering in the heavily overdoped (Y,Ca)Ba_2Cu_3O_{7-d} (T_c = 65 K) and Bi_2Sr_2CaCu_2O_{8+d} (T_c = 55 K) crystals has been investigated. For the both crystals, the electronic pair-breaking peaks in the A_{1g} and B_{1g} polarizations were largely shifted to the low energies close to a half of 2Delta_0, Delta_0 being the maximum gap. It strongly suggests s-wave mixing into the d-wave superconducting order parameter and the consequent manifestation of the Coulomb screening effect in the B_{1g}-channel. Gradual mixing of s-wave component with overdoping is not due to the change of crys…
The in-plane $ρ_{ab}(H)$ and the out-of-plane $ρ_c(H)$ magneto-transport in magnetic fields up to 28 T has been investigated in a series of high quality, single crystal, hole-doped La-free Bi2201 cuprates for a wide doping range and over a wide range of temperatures down to 40 mK. With decreasing hole concentration going from the overdoped (p=0.2) to the underdoped (p=0.12) regimes, a crossover from a metallic to and insulating behavior of $ρ_{ab}(T)$ is observed in the low temperature normal state, resulting in a disorder induced metal insulator transition. In the zero temperature limit, the …
We report electronic transport measurements on single crystals of NaFe$_{1-x}$Co$_x$As system. We found that the cotangent of Hall angle, cot$θ_{\rm H}$, follows $T^4$ for the parent compound with filamentary superconductivity and $T^2$ for the heavily-overdoped non-superconducting sample. While it exhibits approximately $T^3$-dependence in all the superconducting samples, suggesting this behaivor is associated with bulk superconductivity in ferropnictides. A deviation develops below a characteristic temperature $T^*$ well above the structural and superconducting transitions, accompanied by a …
We report the Raman scattering measurements on the triple layer Bi2Sr2Ca2Cu3O10 (Bi2223) crystals of four different doping levels from slightly overdoped to strongly underdoped regimes. We observed a double pair-breaking peak in the antinodal B1g configuration that we attribute to the two antinodal gaps opening on the outer and inner CuO2-plane (OP and IP) band, respectively. The doping dependence of the pair-breaking peak energy was investigated. Considering the difference in doping level between the IP and OP, all the B1g pair-breaking peak energies for OP and IP were found to align on a sin…
New electronic Raman and I.R. spectroscopy results from optimally and overdoped high temperature superconducting (HTSC) cuprate systems are interpreted in terms of the negative-U, boson-fermion crossover model. Distinction is made between those features which follow the condensate gap, 2Delta(p), and those that are set by the local-pair binding energy, cursive U(p). The critical role of doping level psubc = 0.185 is highlighted in conjunction with the matter of developing quasiparticle incoherence, making connection here with recent transport and related results. E//c IR results in magnetic fi…
Motivated by the presence of an extremely small electron pocket in the electronic band structure of infinite-layer (IL) nickelate superconductors, we systematically explore the superconducting (SC) properties of a two-dimensional Hubbard model influenced by an additional conduction band with small occupancy (dry Fermi sea). Our dynamic cluster quantum Monte Carlo calculations demonstrated the unusual impact of this additional dry metallic layer, which shifts the SC dome of the correlated Hubbard layer towards the overdoped regime, namely the $d$-wave SC can be enhanced (suppressed) in the over…
The doping and temperature dependence of the electronic Raman response in cuprate superconductors is studied within the framework of the kinetic energy driven superconducting mechanism for the t-J model. It is shown that the temperature dependent depletion at low-energy shifts is faster in B_{1g} symmetry than in B_{2g} symmetry. In analogy to the domelike shape of the doping dependent superconducting transition temperature, the pair-breaking peak energy in B_{2g} channel increases with increasing doping in the underdoped regime, and reaches a maximum in the optimal doping, then decreases in t…
We use electronic Raman scattering to study the model single-layer cuprate superconductor HgBa2CuO4+d. In an overdoped sample, we observe a pronounced amplitude enhancement of a high-energy peak related to two-magnon excitations in insulating cuprates upon cooling below the critical temperature Tc. This effect is accompanied by the appearance of the superconducting gap and a pairing peak above the gap in the Raman spectrum, and it can be understood as a consequence of feedback of the Cooper pairing interaction on the high-energy magnetic fluctuations. All of these effects occur already above T…
We present a detailed temperature-dependent Raman light scattering study of optical phonons in molecular-beam-epitaxy-grown films of the electron-doped superconductor La_{2-x}Ce_{x}CuO_{4} close to optimal doping (x ~ 0.08, T_c = 29 K and x ~ 0.1, T_c = 27 K). The main focus of this work is a detailed characterization and microstructural analysis of the films. Based on micro-Raman spectroscopy in combination with x-ray diffraction, energy-dispersive x-ray analysis, and scanning electron microscopy, some of the observed phonon modes can be attributed to micron-sized inclusions of Cu_{2}O. In th…
In a recent paper Kendziora et al concluded that the superconducting gap in overdoped Bi-2212 is isotropic. From data obtained from electronic Raman scattering measurements, their conclusion was based on the observation that pair breaking peaks occured at approximately the same frequency in different scattering geometries and that the normalized scattering intensity at low energies was strongly depleted. We discuss a different interpretation of the raw data and present new data which is consistent with a strongly anisotropic gap with nodes. The spectra can be successfully described by a model …
We present Raman experiments on underdoped and overdoped Bi2Sr2CaCu2O(8+d) (Bi-2212) single crystals. We reveal the pseudogap in the electronic Raman spectra in the B1g and B2g geometries. In these geometries we probe respectively, the antinodal (AN) and nodal (N) regions corresponding to the principal axes and the diagonal of the Brillouin zone. The pseudogap appears in underdoped regime and manifests itself in the B1g spectra by a strong depletion of the low energy electronic continuum as the temperature decreases. We define a temperature T* below which the depletion appears and the pseudoga…
Spin excitations in the overdoped high temperature superconductors Tl$_2$Ba$_2$CuO$_{6+δ}$ and (Bi,Pb)$_2$(Sr,La)$_{2}$CuO$_{6+δ}$ were investigated by resonant inelastic x-ray scattering (RIXS) as functions of doping and detuning of the incoming photon energy above the Cu-$L_3$ absorption peak. The RIXS spectra at optimal doping are dominated by a paramagnon feature with peak energy independent of photon energy, similar to prior results on underdoped cuprates. Beyond optimal doping, the RIXS data indicate a sharp crossover to a regime with a strong contribution from incoherent particle/hole e…
We explore the strong variations of the electronic properties of copper-oxygen compounds across the doping phase diagram in a quantitative way. To this end we calculate the electronic Raman response on the basis of results from angle-resolved photoemission spectroscopy (ARPES). In the limits of our approximations we find agreement on the overdoped side and pronounced discrepancies at lower doping. In contrast to the successful approach for the transport properties at low energies, the Raman and the ARPES data cannot be reconciled by adding angle-dependent momentum scattering. We discuss possib…
We report electronic Raman scattering measurements on Bi$_2$Sr$_2$(Y$_{1-x}$Ca$_x$)Cu$_2$O$_{8+δ}$ single crystals at different doping levels. The dependence of the spectra on doping and on incoming photon energy is analyzed for different polarization geometries, in the superconducting and in the normal state. We find the scaling behavior of the superconductivity pair-breaking peak with the carrier concentration to be very different in B$_{1g}$ and B$_{2g}$ geometries. Also, we do not find evidence of any significant variation of the lineshape of the spectra in the overdoped region in both sym…
Using Raman spectroscopy and transport measurements we investigate thin epitaxial films of Y{1-x}(Pr,Ca)xBa2Cu3O{6+y}. We explore the electronic Raman responses obtained after subtraction of phononic excitations, and the 2Delta peaks that form out of the electronic background below Tc. We find that the energy of the B1g 2Delta peak increases monotonically with decreasing doping until the peaks become unresolvable. In contrast, the peaks in A1g symmetry follow Tc being resolvable in the Pr-doped films. The B2g responses are weak and a 2Delta peak is only detected at the highest doping level. As…
We study the critical charge dynamics of the superconducting to the normal-state transition for LSCO thin films with a wide range of the Sr concentration, by measuring the frequency-dependent excess parts of the complex microwave conductivity, which is induced by the superconducting fluctuations. We present a dynamic scaling analysis of the complex fluctuation conductivity, which includes the information on the universality class and the dimensionality of the critical charge dynamics as a function of the Sr concentration, the film thickness and the magnetic field. In our previous study (H. Kit…
We report the results of Raman scattering experiments on single crystals of La(2-x)Sr(x)CuO(4) that span the range from underdoped (x = 0.10) to overdoped (x =0.22). The spectra are consistent with the existence of a strong anisotropic quasiparticle interaction that results in a normal state depletion of spectral weight from regions of the Fermi surface located near the zone axes. The strength of the interaction decreases rapidly with increasing hole concentration and the spectral evidence for the pseudogap vanishes when the optimum doping level is reached. The results suggest that the pseudog…
In Raman spectra of cuprate superconductors the gap shows up both directly, via a redistribution of the electronic background, the so-called "2Delta peaks", and indirectly, e.g. via the renormalization of phononic excitations. We use a model that allows us to study the redistribution and the related phonon self-energy effects simultaneously. We apply this model to the B_1g phonon of Y_{1-x}(Pr,Ca)_xBa_2Cu_3O_7 films, where Pr or Ca substitution enables us to investigate under- and overdoped samples. While various self-energy effects can be explained by the strength and energy of the 2Δpeaks, a…

Layered magnetic transition-metal thiophosphate NiPS3 has unique two-dimensional (2D) magnetic properties and electronic behavior. The electronic band structure and corresponding magnetic state are expected to sensitive to the interlayer interaction, which can be tuned by external pressure. Here, we report an insulator-metal transition accompanied with magnetism collapse during the 2D-3D crossover in structure induced by hydrostatic pressure. A two-stage phase transition from monoclinic (C2=m) to trigonal (P-31m) lattice is identified by ab initio simulation and confirmed by high-pressure XRD …
Strong spin-orbit interaction in the two dimensional compound Sr2IrO4 leads to the formation of Jeff=1/2 isospins with unprecedented dynamics. In Raman scattering a continuum attributed to double spin scattering is observed. With higher excitation energy of the incident Laser this signal crosses over to an incoherent background. The characteristic energy scale of this cross over is identical to that of intensity resonance effects in phonon scattering. It is related to exciton-like orbital excitations that are also evident in resonant X-Ray scattering. The crossover and evolution of incoherent …
A modeling of the normal state of the p-doped high-temperature superconductors (HTSC's) is presented. This is achieved starting from a more conventional metallic phase for optimal- and overdoping and passing via the underdoped to the insulating state by consecutive orbital selective compressibility-incompressibility transitions in terms of sum rules for the charge response. The modeling is substantiated by corresponding phonon calculations. Extending investigations of the full dispersion and in particular of the strongly doping dependent anomalous phonon modes in LaCuO, which so far underpin o…
Raman scattering can detect spontaneous point-group symmetry breaking without resorting to single-domain samples. Here we use this technique to study $\mathrm{BaFe_2As_2}$, the parent compound of the "122" Fe-based superconductors. We show that an applied compression along the Fe-Fe direction, which is commonly used to produce untwinned orthorhombic samples, changes the structural phase transition at temperature $T_{\mathrm{s}}$ into a crossover that spans a considerable temperature range above $T_{\mathrm{s}}$. Even in crystals that are not subject to any applied force, a distribution of subs…
Resonant Raman scattering below Tc has been discovered in several Bi-, Hg-, Tl-based high-Tc superconductors with three or four CuO2-layers. For Bi2Si2Ca2Cu3O10+d, we found an unexpected crossover of the pair-breaking peak in the A1g-spectrum from a broad bump at hw = 6kBTc for Eexc = 2.54eV to a sharp peak at hw = 8kBTc for Eexc = 2.18eV, together with a strong enhancement of the Ca-phonons. Under resonant conditions, the relative positions of the pair breaking peaks in A1g, B1g, and B2g channels are 2Delta(A1g) = 2Delta(B1g) > 2Delta(B2g). This relation implies that the A1g Raman channel is …
In underdoped cuprates fluctuations of the phase of the superconducting order parameter play a role due to the small superfluid density. We consider the effects of phase fluctuations assuming the exchange of spin fluctuations to be the predominant pairing interaction. Spin fluctuations are treated in the fluctuation-exchange approximation, while phase fluctuations are included by Berezinskii-Kosterlitz-Thouless theory. We calculate the stiffness against phase fluctuations, ns(omega)/m*, as a function of doping, temperature, and frequency, taking its renormalization by phase fluctuations into a…
In order to investigate the electronic state in the normal state of high-Tc cuprates in a wide range of temperature and hole-concentration, specific-heat, electrical-resistivity, magnetization and muon-spin-relaxation (muSR) measurements have been performed in non-superconducting Ni-substituted La2-xSrxCu1-yNiyO4 where the superconductivity is suppressed through the partial substitution of Ni for Cu without disturbing the Cu-spin correlation in the CuO2 plane so much. In the underdoped regime, it has been found that there exist both weakly localized holes around Ni and itinerant holes at high …
We report elastic neutron scattering and transport measurements on the Ni and Cr equivalently doped iron pnictide BaFe$_{2-2x}$Ni$_{x}$Cr$_{x}$As$_{2}$. Compared with the electron-doped BaFe$_{2-x}$Ni$_{x}$As$_{2}$, the long-range antiferromagnetic (AF) order in BaFe$_{2-2x}$Ni$_{x}$Cr$_{x}$As$_{2}$ is gradually suppressed with vanishing ordered moment and Néel temperature near $x= 0.20$ without the appearance of superconductivity. A detailed analysis on the transport properties of BaFe$_{2-x}$Ni$_{x}$As and BaFe$_{2-2x}$Ni$_{x}$Cr$_{x}$As$_{2}$ suggests that the non-Fermi-liquid behavior asso…
