We report elastic neutron scattering and transport measurements on the Ni and Cr equivalently doped iron pnictide BaFe$_{2-2x}$Ni$_{x}$Cr$_{x}$As$_{2}$. Compared with the electron-doped BaFe$_{2-x}$Ni$_{x}$As$_{2}$, the long-range antiferromagnetic (AF) order in BaFe$_{2-2x}$Ni$_{x}$Cr$_{x}$As$_{2}$ is gradually suppressed with vanishing ordered moment and Néel temperature near $x= 0.20$ without the appearance of superconductivity. A detailed analysis on the transport properties of BaFe$_{2-x}$Ni$_{x}$As and BaFe$_{2-2x}$Ni$_{x}$Cr$_{x}$As$_{2}$ suggests that the non-Fermi-liquid behavior associated with the linear resistivity as a function of temperature may not correspond to the disappearance of the static AF order. From the temperature dependence of the resistivity in overdoped compounds without static AF order, we find that the transport properties are actually affected by Cr impurity scattering, which may induce a metal-to-insulator crossover in highly doped BaFe$_{1.7-y}$Ni$_{0.3}$Cr$_{y}$As$_{2}$.
In iron pnictides, high temperature superconductivity emerges after suppressing antiferromagnetism by doping. Here we show that antiferromagnetism in Ca$_{1-x}$La$_x$FeAs$_2$ is robust against and even enhanced by doping. Using $^{75}$As-nuclear magnetic resonance and nuclear quadrupole resonance techniques, we find that an antiferromagnetic order occurs below the Néel temperature $T_{\rm N}$ = 62 K at a high doping concentration ($x$ = 0.15) where superconductivity sets in at the transition temperature $T_{\rm c}$ = 35 K. Unexpectedly, $T_{\rm N}$ is enhanced with increasing doping, rising up…
Using Gutzwiller-projected wave functions, I estimate the ground-state energy of the t-J model for several variational states relevant for high-temperature cuprate superconductors. The results indicate antiferromagnetism and phase separation at low doping both in the superconducting state and in the staggered-flux normal state proposed for the vortex cores. While phase separation in the underdoped superconducting state may be relevant for the stripe formation mechanism, the results for the normal state suggest that similar charge inhomogeneities may also appear in vortex cores up to relatively…
We investigate the asymmetry between electron and hole doping in a 2D Mott insulator, and the resulting competition between antiferromagnetism (AF) and d-wave superconductivity (SC), using variational Monte Carlo for projected wave functions. We find that key features of the T = 0 phase diagram, such as critical doping for SC-AF coexistence and the maximum value of the SC order parameter, are determined by a single parameter which characterises the topology of the "Fermi surface" at half filling defined by the bare tight-binding parameters. Our results give insight into why AF wins for electro…
We have found that the two dimensional t-J model, for the physical parameter range J/t = 0.4 reproduces the main experimental qualitative features of High-Tc copper oxide superconductors: d-wave superconducting correlations are strongly enhanced upon small doping and clear evidence of off diagonal long range order is found at the optimal doping δ~ 0.15. On the other hand antiferromagnetic long range order, clearly present at zero hole doping, is suppressed at small hole density with clear absence of antiferromagnetism at δ>~ 0.1.
The doping, temperature and energy dependence of the dynamical spin structure factors of the underdoped lanthanum cuprates in the normal state is studied within the t-J model using the fermion-spin transformation technique. Incommensurate peaks are found at $[(1\pmδ)π,π]$, $[π,(1\pmδ)π]$ at relatively low temperatures with $δ$ linearly increasing with doping at the beginning and then saturating at higher dopings. These peaks broaden and weaken in amplitude with temperature and energy, in good agreement with experiments. The theory also predicts a rotation of these peaks by $π/4$ at even higher…
This paper has been withdrawn by the authors, because of results obtained from a more exhaustive study of both YBa_2Cu_3O_y and La_{2-x}Sr_xCuO_4 (see cond-mat/0610051).
We generalize the theory of Cooper pairing by spin excitations in the metallic antiferromagnetic state to include situations with electron and/or hole pockets. We show that Cooper pairing arises from transverse spin waves and from gapped longitudinal spin fluctuations of comparable strength. However, each of these interactions, projected on a particular symmetry of the superconducting gap, acts primarily within one type of pocket. We find a nodeless $d_{x^2-y^2}$-wave state is supported primarily by the longitudinal fluctuations on the electron pockets, and both transverse and longitudinal flu…
Materials with exceptional magnetism and superconductivity usually conceive emergent physical phenomena. Here, we investigate the physical properties of the (Eu,La)FeAs2 system with double magnetic sublattices. The parent EuFeAs2 shows anisotropy-associated magnetic behaviors, such as Eu-related moment canting and exchange bias. Through La doping, the magnetic anisotropy is enhanced with ferromagnetism of Eu2+ realized in the overdoped region, and a special exchange bias of the superposed ferromagnetic/superconducting loop revealed in Eu0.8La0.2FeAs2. Meanwhile, the Fe-related antiferromagneti…
We present magnetotransport evidence for antiferromagnetism in films of the electron-doped cuprates Pr$_{2-x}$Ce$_x$CuO$_4$. Our results show clear signature of static antiferromagnetism up to optimal doping x=0.15, with a quantum phase transition close to x=0.16, and a coexistence of static antiferromagnetism and superconductivity for 0.12$\le$x$\le$0.15.
We study the competition of antiferromagnetism and d-wave superconductivity at zero-temperature in the two-dimensional Hubbard model using Cellular Dynamical Mean Field Theory. The interplay between the two phases depends strongly on the strength of the correlation. At strong coupling ($ U \ge 8t$) the two phases do not mix, and a first-order transition takes place as a function of doping between two pure phases. At weak-coupling ($U \le 8t$) the two order parameters coexist within the same solution in a range of doping and the system smoothly evolves from the antiferromagnet to the supercondu…
The d-wave superconductivity (dSC) and antiferromagnetism are analytically studied in a renormalized mean field theory for a two dimensional t-J model plus an on-site repulsive Hubbard interaction $U$. The purpose of introducing the $U$ term is to partially impose the no double occupancy constraint by employing the Gutzwiller approximation. The phase diagrams as functions of doping $δ$ and $U$ are studied. Using the standard value of $t/J=3.0$ and in the large $U$ limit, we show that the antiferromagnetic (AF) order emerges and coexists with the dSC in the underdoped region below the doping $δ…
We represent the superconducting ceramic compounds by the single band extended Hubbard model. We solve this model for the simultaneous presence of antiferromagnetism and the d-wave superconductivity in the Hartree-Fock (H-F) and in the coherent potential (CP) approximation, which is applied to the on-site Coulomb repulsion U. The hopping interaction used in addition to the Coulomb repulsion causes rapid expansion of the band at carrier concentrations departing from unity. This expansion shifts the d-wave superconductivity away from the half filled point reducing its occupation range approximat…
We report the discovery of new superconducting and novel magnetic phases in CeIn$_3$ on the verge of antiferromagnetism (AFM) under pressure ($P$) through the In-nuclear quadrupole resonance (NQR) measurements. We have found a $P$-induced phase separation of AFM and paramagnetism (PM) without any trace for a quantum phase transition in CeIn$_3$. A new type of superconductivity (SC) was found in $P=2.28-2.5$ GPa to coexist with AFM that is magnetically separated from PM where the heavy fermion SC takes place. We propose that the magnetic excitations such as spin-density fluctuations induced by …
We study the doping dependence of the spin-density-wave (SDW) state in four models of the 1111 pnictides. The random-phase approximation is used to determine the ordering temperature and the ordering vector as functions of doping, and to evaluate the contribution of the various orbitals to the SDW instability. In addition to the usual assumption of orbitally rotation-invariant interactions, we consider the effect of reduced interactions involving the xy orbital, which are anticipated by crystal-structure considerations. We find that changing the relative strength of the interaction in the xy o…
Neutron and X-ray scattering studies have provided strong evidence for coupled spatial modulations of charge and spin densities in layered nickelates and cuprates. The accumulated results for La(2-x)Sr(x)NiO(4+d) are consistent with the strongly-modulated topological-stripe concept. Clues from Nd-doped La(2-x)Sr(x)CuO(4) suggest similar behavior for the cuprates. The experimental results are summarized, and features that conflict with an interpretation based on a Fermi-surface instability are emphasized. A rationalization for the differences in transport properties between the cuprates and nic…
We report Cu nuclear-quadrupole-resonance results under pressure on a homogeneous CeCu2Si2 (Tc = 0.65 K) that revealed critical magnetic fluctuations at the border to an antiferromagnetic phase. This exotic superconducting phase evolves into the typical heavy-fermion superconducting phase at minute pressures exceeding Pc ~ 0.2 GPa. The nuclear spin-lattice relaxation data in a pressure range 0.85 - 2.58 GPa are shown to be accountable by the SCR theory based on the nearly antiferromagnetic Fermi-liquid model. In 0 < P < Pc ~ 0.2 GPa, by contrast, we conclude that the exotic superconducting pha…
We study mean-field phases of the t-J model with long-range Coulomb interaction. In the order of increasing doping density we find a classical antiferromagnet, charge and spin stripes, and a uniform d-wave superconductor, at the realistic doping parameters. Both in-phase and anti-phase stripes exist as metastable configurations, but the in-phase stripes have a slightly lower energy. The dependence of the stripe width and the inter-stripe spacing on the doping is examined. Effects of fluctuations around the mean-field states are discussed.
The competition between antiferromagnetism and the $d+id$ superconducting state is studied in a model with near and next near neighbour interactions in the absence of any on-site repulsion. A mean field study shows that it is possible to have simultaneous occurrence of an antiferromagnetic and a singlet $d+id$ superconducting state in this model. In addition, such a coexistence generates a triplet $d+id$ superconducting order parameter with centre of mass momentum $Q=(π, π)$ {\it dynamically} having the same orbital symmetry as the singlet superconductor. Inclusion of next nearest neighbour ho…
We discuss the $t$-$J$-$U$ model in the mean-field approximation. The role of spin-exchange coupling $J$ and the second nearest hopping $t'$ are examined in the context of the coexistence of superconductivity (SC) and antiferromagnetism (AF). Stability of the phases is studied with respect to temperature. The coexistence region exists for the sufficiently large Coulomb repulsion ($U>U_{cr}$), and in the vicinity of the half-filled band (hole doping $δ< δ_{cr}$). The critical hole doping is relatively small ($δ_{cr} \approx 0.006$ for $J/|t| = 1/3$) and linear with respect to $J$. The decrease …
On the basis of the Hubbard model, we present the formulation of antiferromagnetism in electron-doped cuprates using the fluctuation-exchange approach. Taking into account the spin fluctuations in combination with the impurity scattering effect due to the randomly distributed dopant-atoms, we investigate the magnetic properties of the system. It is shown that the antiferromagnetic transition temperature, the onset temperature of the pseudogap formation, the single particle spectral density, and the staggered magnetization obtained by the present approach are in very good agreement with the exp…
In the cuprate superconductor $YBa_2Cu_3O_{6+x}$, hole doping in the $CuO_2$ layers is controlled by both oxygen content and the degree of oxygen-ordering. At the composition $\rm YBa_2Cu_3O_{6.35}$, the ordering can occur at room temperature, thereby tuning the hole doping so that the superconducting critical temperature gradually rises from zero to 20 K. Here we exploit this to study the c-axis penetration depth as a function of temperature and doping. The temperature dependence shows the d-wave superconductor surviving to very low doping, with no sign of another ordered phase interfering wi…
In this paper the phase diagram of high $T_{c}$ cuprates is {\it qualitatively} studied in the context of competing orders: antiferromagnetism, d-wave superconductivity and $d$-density wave. {\it Local} correlation functions are estimated from a mean-field solution of the $t-J$ Hamiltonian. With decreasing doping the superconducting mean-field $T^{MF}_{c}$ and order parameter $d$ begin to decrease below some characteristic doping $x_{c} \simeq 0.2$ where short-range antiferromagnetic correlations begin to develop. {\it Dynamical} properties that involve the energy spectrum, such as the normal …
Using mean-field theory, we illustrate the long-range Coulomb effect on the antiferromagnetism in the electron-doped cuprates. Because of the Coulomb exchange effect, the magnitude of the effective next nearest neighbor hopping parameter increases appreciably with increasing the electron doping concentration, raising the frustration to the antiferromagnetic ordering. The Fermi surface evolution in the electron-doped cuprate Nd$_{2-x}$Ce$_x$CuO$_4$ and the doping dependence of the onset temperature of the antiferromagnetic pseudogap can be reasonably explained by the present consideration.
We analyze the possible existence of a superconducting state in a background with long-range antiferromagnetism. We consider a generalized Hubbard model with nearest-neighbor correlated hopping in a square lattice. Near half filling, the model exhibits a d-wave-Bardeen-Cooper-Schrieffer (BCS) solution in the paramagnetic state. The superconducting solution would be enhanced by the antiferromagnetic background if the contribution of triplet pairs with d-wave symmetry and total momentum (pi, pi) could be neglected. However, we find that due to their contribution, the coexistence of superconducti…
Recent experiments on Pr$_{0.89}$LaCe$_{0.11}$CuO$_4$ observe an anisotropic spin-correlation gap and a nonmonotonic superconducting (SC) gap, which we analyze within the framework of a $t-t^{\prime}-t^{\prime\prime}-t^{\prime\prime\prime}-t^{iv}-U$ model with a $d_{x^2-y^2}$ pairing interaction including a third harmonic contribution. By introducing a realistic broadening of the quasiparticle spectrum to reflect small-angle scattering, our computations explain the experimental observations, especially the presence of a maximum in the leading edge gap in the vicinity of the hot-spots. Our anal…
We performed systematic angle-resolved photoemission spectroscopy measurements $in$-$situ$ on $T'$-${\rm La}_{2-x}{\rm Ce}_x\rm {CuO}_{4\pmδ}$ (LCCO) thin films over the extended doping range prepared by the refined ozone/vacuum annealing method. Electron doping level ($n$), estimated from the measured Fermi surface volume, varies from 0.05 to 0.23, which covers the whole superconducting dome. We observed an absence of the insulating behavior around $n \sim$ 0.05 and the Fermi surface reconstruction shifted to $n \sim$ 0.11 in LCCO compared to that of other electron-doped cuprates at around 0.…
We investigate the competition between antiferromagnetism and triplet superconductivity in quasi one-dimensional electron systems. We show that the two order parameters can be unified using a SO(4) symmetry and demonstrate the existence of such symmetry in one dimensional Luttinger liquids of interacting electrons. We argue that approximate SO(4) symmetry remains valid even when interchain hopping is strong enough to turn the system into a strongly anisotropic Fermi liquid. For unitary triplet superconductors SO(4) symmetry requires a first order transition between antiferromagnetic and superc…
We propose a class of wave functions that provide a unified description of antiferromagnetism and d-wave superconductivity in (doped) Mott insulators. The wave function has a Jastrow form and prohibits double occupancies. In the absence of holes, the wave function describes antiferromagnetism accurately. Off diagonal long range order develops at finite doping and the superconducting order parameter has d-wave symmetry. We also show how nodal quasiparticles and neutral spin excitations can be constructed from this wave function.
The coexistence state of antiferromagnetism (AF) and superconductivity (SC) has been observed in five-layered cuprates. However, this coexistence state disappears, and the AF phase and SC phase lose contact in the doping phase diagram toward double- and single-layered cuprates. We investigate the mechanism of the disappearance of the coexistence of AF and SC in disordered cuprate superconductors in order to understand these doping phase diagrams. In single- and double-layered cuprates, electrons on the CuO$_2$ plane experience the disorder effect through inhomogeneity in the charge reservoir l…
We argue the emergence of nodal excitations due to the coupling with static antiferromagnetic order in fully-gapped superconducting states in both cases with and without inversion symmetry. This line node structure is not accompanied with the sign change of the superconducting gap, in contrast to usual unconventional Cooper pairs with higher angular momenta. In the case without inversion symmetry, the stability of the nodal excitations crucially depends on the direction of the antiferromagnetic staggered magnetic moment. A possible realization of this phenomenon in CePt$_3$Si is discussed.
Motivated by recent experimental study of antiferromagnetic property of honeycomb compound In$_{3}$Cu$_{2}$VO$_{9}$ [Yan \textit{et al.}, PRB \textbf{85}, 085102 (2012)], we explore possible superconductivity and its coexistence with antiferromagnetism. We use the t-t$^\prime$-J model on the honeycomb lattice as our starting point and employ the slave-boson mean-field theory. In the antiferromagnetic normal state, the characteristic doping evolution of Fermi surface shows that only one effective singe band is active, which suggests that the potential pairing symmetry is the time-reversal symme…
The Fermi surface calculated within the rotating antiferromagentism theory undergoes a topological change when doping changes from p-type to n-type, in qualitative agreement with experimental data for n-type cuprate Nd$_{2-x}$Ce$_x$CuO$_4$ and p-type La$_{2-x}$Sr$_x$CuO$_4$. Also, the reconstruction of the Fermi surface observed experimentally close to optimal doing in p-type cuprates, and slightly higher than optimal doping in the overdoped regime for this n-type high-$T_C$ cuprate is well accounted for in this theory, and is a consequence of quantum criticality caused by the disappearance of…
Proximity to a Mott insulating phase is likely to be an important physical ingredient of a theory that aims to describe high-temperature superconductivity in the cuprates. Quantum cluster methods are well suited to describe the Mott phase. Hence, as a step towards a quantitative theory of the competition between antiferromagnetism (AFM) and d-wave superconductivity (SC) in the cuprates, we use Cellular Dynamical Mean Field Theory to compute zero temperature properties of the two-dimensional square lattice Hubbard model. The d-wave order parameter is found to scale like the superexchange coupli…
We report on detailed ac calorimetry measurements under high pressure and magnetic field of CeRhIn5. Under hydrostatic pressure the antiferromagnetic order vanishes near p_c*=2 GPa due to a first order transition. Superconductivity is found for pressures above 1.5 GPa inside the magnetic ordered phase. However, the superconductivity differ from the pure homogeneous superconducting ground state above 2 GPa. The application of an external magnetic field H || ab induces a transition inside the superconducting state above pc* which is strongly related to the re-entrance of the antiferromagnetism w…
The extended $t-J$ model is theoretically studied, in the context of hole underdoped cuprates. Based on results obtained by recent numerical studies, we identify the mean field state having both the antiferromagnetic and staggered flux resonating valence bond orders. The random-phase approximation is employed to analyze all the possible collective modes in this mean field state. In the static (Bardeen Cooper Schrieffer) limit justified in the weak coupling regime, we obtain the effective superconducting interaction between the doped holes at the small pockets located around $\bm{k}= (\pm π/2, …
The interplay between antiferromagnetism and d-wave superconductivity is studied in a mean-field approximation for a generic microscopic Hamiltonian with short-range repulsion and near-neighbor attraction. In the presence of competing microscopic interactions, the phase boundaries of antiferromagnetic and superconducting states are significantly modified in some region of the doping-temperature plane. The transition between superconductivity and antiferromagnetism occurs through a phase where both order parameters coexist with a third, dynamically generated, spin-triplet amplitude. This dynami…
The electronic structure of Ba$_2$Ti$_2$Fe$_2$As$_4$O, a newly discovered superconductor, is investigated using first-principles calculations based on local density approximations. Multiple Fermi surface sheets originating from Ti-3$d$ and Fe-3$d$ states are present corresponding to the conducting Ti$_2$As$_2$O and Fe$_2$As$_2$ layers respectively. Compared with BaFe$_2$As$_2$, sizeable changes in the related Fermi surface sheets indicate significant electron transfer (about 0.12$e$) from Ti to Fe, which suppresses the stripe-like antiferromagnetism at the Fe sites and simultaneously induces s…
The two-dimensional t-J model in a staggered field is studied by exact diagonalization of small clusters. For the low-hole-density region and a realistic value of J/t, it is found that the presence of a staggered field strengthens the attraction between two holes. With increasing field, the d_{x^2-y^2}-wave superconducting correlations are enhanced while the extended-s-wave ones hardly change. This implies that coexistence of the d_{x^2-y^2}-wave superconducting order and the commensurate antiferromagnetic order occurs in a staggered field.
We have investigated the doping dependence of the penetration depth vs. temperature in electron doped Pr$_{2-x}$Ce$_x$CuO$_{4-δ}$ using a model which assumes the uniform coexistence of (mean-field) antiferromagnetism and superconductivity. Despite the presence of a $d_{x^2-y^2}$ pairing gap in the underlying spectrum, we find nodeless behavior of the low-$T$ penetration depth in underdoped case, in accord with experimental results. As doping increases, a linear-in-$T$ behavior of the penetration depth, characteristic of d-wave pairing, emerges as the lower magnetic band crosses the Fermi level…
It is natural for a Mott antiferromagnetism in RVB description to become a superconductor in doped metallic regime. But the issue of superconducting transition temperature is highly nontrivial, as the AF fluctuations in the form of RVB pair-breaking are crucial in determining the phase coherence of the superconductivity. Underestimated AF fluctuations in a fermionic RVB state are the essential reason causing an overestimate of T_c in the same system. We point out that by starting with a {\it bosonic} RVB description where both the long-range and short-range AF correlations can be accurately de…
We discuss evolution of the Fermi surface (FS) topology with doping in electron doped cuprates within the framework of a one-band Hubbard Hamiltonian, where antiferromagnetism and superconductivity are assumed to coexist in a uniform phase. In the lightly doped insulator, the FS consists of electron pockets around the $(π,0)$ points. The first change in the FS topology occurs in the optimally doped region when an additional hole pocket appears at the nodal point. The second change in topology takes place in the overdoped regime ($\sim18%$) where antiferromagnetism disappears and a large $(π,π)…
In the generic phase diagram of heavy fermion systems, tuning an external parameter such as hydrostatic or chemical pressure modifies the superconducting transition temperature. The superconducting phase forms a dome in the temperature-tuning parameter phase diagram, which is associated with a maximum of the superconducting pairing interaction. Proximity to antiferromagnetism suggests a relation between the disappearance of antiferromagnetic order and superconductivity. We combine muon spin rotation, neutron scattering, and x-ray absorption spectroscopy techniques to gain access to the magneti…
On the basis of the Hubbard model, we extend the fluctuation-exchange (FLEX) approach to investigating the properties of antiferromagnetic (AF) phase in electron-doped cuprate superconductors. Furthermore, by incorporating the effect of scatterings due to the disordered dopant-atoms into the FLEX formalism, our numerical results show that the antiferromagnetic transition temperature, the onset temperature of pseudogap due to spin fluctuations, the spectral density of the single particle near the Fermi surface, and the staggered magnetization in the AF phase as a function of electron doping can…
RuSr2(Nd,Y,Ce)2Cu2O10-d ruthenocuprates have been studied by neutron diffraction, magnetotransport and magnetisation measurements and the electronic phase diagram is reported. Separate Ru and Cu spin ordering transitions are observed, with spontaneous Cu antiferromagnetic order for low hole doping levels p, and a distinct, induced-antiferromagnetic Cu spin phase in the 0.02 < p < 0.06 pseudogap region. This ordering gives rise to large negative magnetoresistances which vary systematically with p in the RuSr2Nd1.8-xY0.2CexCu2O10-d series. A collapse of the magnetoresistance (MR) and magnetisati…
We use c-axis resistivity and magnetoresistance measurements to study the interplay between antiferromagnetic (AF) and superconducting (SC) ordering in underdoped RBa_2Cu_3O_{6+x} (R = Lu, Y) single crystals. Both orders are found to emerge from an anisotropic 3D metallic state, upon which antiferromagnetism opposes superconductivity by driving the doped holes towards localization. Despite the competition, the superconductivity sets in before the AF order is completely destroyed and coexists with latter in a certain range of hole doping. We find also that strong magnetic fields affect the AF-S…
Recent results on electrons and holes doped CuO 2 planes confirm the marked covalency of CuO bonding, suggesting a band picture of long and short range antiferromagnetism. The maxima of superconductive T c versus doping can be related to the crossing by the Fermi level of the edges of the pseudogap due to antiferromagnetic short range order (bonding edge for holes doping, antibonding one for electrons doping). The symmetry of the superconductive gap can be related to the Bragg scattering of electronic Bloch states near the edges of the AF pseudogap. Assuming a standard phonon coupling, one the…
We report single crystal synthesis, specific heat and resistivity measurements and electronic structure calculations for BaCr$_2$As$_2$. This material is a metal with itinerant antiferromagnetism, similar to the parent phases of Fe-based high temperature superconductors, but differs in magnetic order. Comparison of bare band structure density of states and the low temperature specific heat implies a mass renormalization of $\sim$ 2. BaCr$_2$As$_2$ shows stronger transition metal - pnictogen covalency than the Fe compounds, and in this respect is more similar to BaMn$_2$As$_2$. This provides an…
On the basis of the periodic Anderson model the microscopic Ginzburg-Landau equations for heavy-fermion superconductors in the coexistence phase of superconductivity and antiferromagnetism have been derived. The obtained expressions are valid in the vicinity of quantum critical point of heavy-fermion superconductors when the onset temperatures of antiferromagnetism and superconductivity are sufficiently close to each other. It is shown that the formation of antiferromagnetic ordering causes a decrease of the critical temperature of superconducting transition and order parameter in the phase of…
We present the exact solution of a one-dimensional model of a spin-gapped correlated electron system with hybridization impurities exhibiting both magnetic and mixed-valence properties. The host supports superconducting fluctuations, with a spin gap. The localized electrons create a band of antiferromagnetic spin excitations inside the gap for concentrations x of the impurities below some critical value x_c. When x = x_c the spin gap closes and a ferrimagnetic phase appears. This is the first example of an exactly solvable model with coexisting superconducting and antiferromagnetic fluctuation…
We consider a general D-wave superconducting gap function in the presence of coexisting antiferromagnetic (AFM) long-rang order. We find that the D-wave order parameter develops additional nodes without lowering the symmetry of the state due to the interplay of the superconducting and AFM correlations. This AFM correlated D-wave gap has a small gap structure inside the generic D-wave gap. As a result of this additional structure it shows a quite different response to impurities compared to a standard D-wave gap. We calculate the nuclear spin-lattice relaxation rate $1/T_1$ of this gap in the p…
Based on a hybrid interlayer coupling mechanism, we study the coexistence of superconductivity (SC) and antiferromagnetism (AFM) in trilayer cuprates. By introducing an interlayer magnetic scattering term, we solve the multilayer $t{-}J$ model with Josephson coupling under the framework of Gutzwiller projection. We show that both the SC and AFM orders in the multilayered system are enhanced and the range of AFM order is extended. The layer configuration of d-wave pairing gap and AFM order further plays an essential role in determining the interlayer magnetic and superconducting coupling phase …
Numerical studies of the two-dimensional d-p model using the Gutzwiller ansatz have exhibited the incommensurate antiferromagnetic state coexisting with superconductivity in the under- and lightly doped regions. Our results are based on the variational Monte Carlo method for the three-band Hubbard model with d and p orbitals. We obtained the finite superconducting condensation energy for the coexistent sate at the doping rate $x=1/8$, 1/12, and 1/16, up to the systems of 256 unit cells with 768 atoms (oxygen and copper atoms). The phase diagram for the hole-doped case is consistent with recent…
In a simple model we investigate three competing orders: d-wave superconductivity, spin and orbital antiferromagnetism (AF) in the vicinity of a single vortex in a cuprate superconductor. We find that when the potential for the orbital AF $V_{d}$ is comparatively small, the spin-density-wave (SDW) order has an enhancement at the vortex core center, and the ''d-density-wave'' (DDW) order exhibits a rather weak behavior around the core and vanishing small away from the core. However, when $V_{d}$ becomes large, globally, the SDW order decreases and the DDW order increases; locally, not only the …
The phase diagram of the layered organic superconductor $κ$-(ET)$_{2}$Cu[N(CN)$_{2}$]Cl has been accurately measured from a combination of $^{1}$H NMR and AC susceptibility techniques under helium gas pressure. The domains of stability of antiferromagnetic and superconducting long-range orders in the pressure {\it vs} temperature plane have been determined. Both phases overlap through a first-order boundary that separates two regions of inhomogeneous phase coexistence. The boundary curve is found to merge with another first order line related to the metal-insulator transition in the paramagnet…
We have succeeded in growing single crystals of the heavy-fermion superconductor CeCo(In1-xZnx)5 with x<=0.07. Measurements of specific heat, electrical resistivity, dc magnetization and ac susceptibility revealed that the superconducting (SC) transition temperature Tc decreases from 2.25 K (x=0) to 1.8 K (x=0.05) by doping Zn into CeCoIn5. Furthermore, these measurements indicate a development of a new ordered phase below T_o ~ 2.2 K for x=>0.05, characterized by the reduced magnetization and electrical resistivity in the ordered phase, and the enhancement of specific heat at T_o. This phase …
The unbinding of vortex defects in the superconducting condensate with d-wave symmetry at T=0 is shown to lead to the insulator with incommensurate spin-density-wave order. The transition is similar to the spontaneous generation of the "chiral" mass in the three dimensional quantum electrodynamics, at which the global chiral symmetry one can define in the superconducting state is spontaneously broken. Other symmetry related states and possible relations to recent experiments on uderdoped cuprates are briefly discussed.
We show that a Fermi surface reconstruction due to spiral antiferromagnetic order may explain the rapid change in the Hall number as recently observed near optimal doping in cuprate superconductors [Badoux~\textit{et. al.}, Nature \textbf{531}, 210 (2016)]. The single-particle spectral function in the spiral state exhibits hole pockets which look like Fermi arcs due to a strong momentum dependence of the spectral weight. Adding charge-density wave order further reduces the Fermi surface to a single electron pocket. We propose quantum oscillation measurements to distinguish between commensurate…
In several members of the pnictide materials, spin density wave order coexists with superconductivity over a range of dopings and temperature. In this paper we show that odd-frequency superconductivity emerges on the edges of pnictides in such a coexistence phase. In particular, the breaking of spin-rotation symmetry by SDW and translation symmetry by the edge can lead to the development of odd-frequency spin-triplet Cooper pairing on edges of superconducting pnictide samples. In this case, the odd-frequency pairing has even parity components, which are immune to disorder. Our results show tha…
We apply a Hartree-Fock approximation to a two-orbital model proposed for Fe pnictide superconductors. It is found that the antiferromagnetic (AFM) order with the ordering vector Q=(pi,0) is realized. The AFM order appears simultaneously with ferro-orbital order, the latter leads to a secondary lattice distortion. We also investigate the influence of doping on the AFM order. The size of the AFM moment changes continuously for lightly doped cases, but when the amount of doped carriers exceeds a certain value the AFM state is suddenly destroyed. We also show that Fermi surfaces remain and change…
Effects of the strong Pauli-paramagnetic pair-breaking (PPB) on the vortex lattice in d-wave superconductors are theoretically studied by putting emphasis on consequences of the PPB-induced antiferromagnetic (AFM) ordering in the spatial modulation in the vortex lattice. It is shown that the PPB-induced AFM fluctuation in the superconducting state leads to an enhancement of the vortex lattice form factor which is a measure of spatial variations of the internal magnetic field and that the enhancement becomes more remarkable as an AFM instability is approached. It is also demonstrated that the P…
