The structure of neutron-rich Cr isotopes is systematically investigated by using the spherical shell model. The calculations reproduce well the known energy levels for the even-even $^{52-62}$Cr and odd-mass $^{53-59}$Cr nuclei, and predict a lowering of excitation energies around neutron number N=40. The calculated $B(E2;2_{1}^{+}\to 0_{1}^{+})$ systematics shows a pronounced collectivity around N=40; a similar characteristic behavior has been suggested for Zn and Ge isotopes. Causes for the sudden drop of the $9/2_{1}^{+}$ energy in $^{59}$Cr and the appearance of very low $0_{2}^{+}$ states around N=40 are discussed. We also predict a new band with strong collectivity built on the $0_{2}^{+}$ state in the N=40 isotope $^{64}$Cr.
A mass formula (BWM) without shell effect is employed to study the variation of the shell effect in Pb isotopes through comparison with the experimental data. Unlike other macroscopic formulae, the BWM reproduces the general trend of the binding energy versus neutron number curves of all the nuclei from Li to Bi. The shell effect in Pb-isotopes reduces to ~56 keV at N=106 but, increases gradually for N<106, indicating increasing shell effect in Pb near the proton drip line.
Isotope shifts in the nuclear charge radius of even and odd calcium isotopes are calculated within the nuclear shell model. The model space includes all configurations of nucleons in the $2s, 1d_{3/2}, 1f_{7/2}, {\rm and} ~2p_{3/2}$ orbits. The shell model describes well the energies of the intruder states in Sc and Ca, as well as the energies of the low-lying $2^+$ and $3^-$ states in the even Ca isotopes. The characteristic features of the isotope shifts, the parabolic dependence on $A$ and the prominent odd-even staggering, are well reproduced by the model. These features are related to the…
Monopole shift in the proton states in odd neutron rich F isotopes has been studied with neutron number changing from N = 10 to 20 for three different interactions. The variation of monopole shift point out towards appearance of shell closure at N = 14 and N = 16 and its disappearance at N = 20. Low lying states of odd F isotopes have also been calculated in the limited configuration space of {\it sd} shells for these interactions.
We have calculated the M1 strength distributions in the A=36,38 argon isotopes within large-scale shell model studies which consider valence nucleons in the sd and pf shells. While the M1 strength in 36Ar is well reproduced within the sd shell, the experimentally observed strong fragmentation of the M1 strength in 38Ar requires configuration mixing between the sd and the pf shells adding to our understanding of correlations across the N=20 shell gap.
Continuum coupling correction to binding energies in the neutron rich oxygen and fluorine isotopes is studied using the Shell Model Embedded in the Continuum. We discuss the importance of different effects, such as the position of one-neutron emission threshold, the effective interaction or the number of valence particles on the magnitude of this correction.
We present results from large-scale shell-model calculations of even and odd tin isotopes from 134Sn to 142}Sn with a shell-model space defined by the 1f7/2,2p3/2,0h9/2,2p1/2,1f5/2,0i13/2 single-particle orbits. An effective two-body interaction based on modern nucleon-nucleon interactions is employed. The shell-model results are in turn analyzed for their pairing content using a generalized seniority approach. Our results indicate that a pairing-model picture captures a great deal of the structure and the correlations of the lowest lying states for even and odd isotopes.
The excitation energies of single analog states in even-odd Ti isotopes and double analog states in even-even Ti isotopes are microscopically described in a single j-shell formalism. A projection procedure for generalized BCS states has been used. As an alternative description a particle-core formalism is presented. The latter picture provides a two-parameter expression for excitation energies, which describes fairly well the data in four odd and three even isotopes of Ti.
Collective properties of the even-even 118-144Xe isotopes have been studied within a model employing the general Bohr Hamiltonian derived from the mean-field theory based on the UNEDF0 energy functional. The calculated low energy spectra and E2 transition probabilities are in good agreement with experimental data.
The level schemes and transition rates {\em B}({\em E}2;$\uparrow$) of eve-even $^{48-56}$Ti isotopes were studied by performing large-scale shell model calculations with FPD6 and GXPF1 effective interactions. Excellent agreement were obtained by comparing the first 2$^{+}$ level for all isotopes with the recently available experimental data, but studying the transition strengths {\em B}({\em E}2; 0$^+_{g.s.} \to2^+_1$) for all Ti isotopes using constant proton-neutron effective charges prove the limitations of the present large-scale calculations to reproduce the experiment in detail.
We study the performance of self-consistent mean-field and beyond-mean-field approximations in shell-model valence spaces. In particular, Hartree-Fock-Bogolyubov, particle-number variation after projection and projected generator coordinate methods are applied to obtain ground-state and excitation energies for even-even and odd-even Calcium isotopes in the pf-shell. The standard (and non-trivial) KB3G nuclear effective interaction has been used. The comparison with the exact solutions -- provided by the full diagonalization of the Hamiltonian -- shows an outstanding agreement when particle-num…
We study the role of different collective degrees of freedom in spontaneous fission process of even--even Fm isotopes. To find a proper collective space we examine a reach collection of nuclear shape parameters $\{β_λ\}$, with $λ$=2,3,4,5,6 and 8; as well as the paring degrees of freedom i.e. proton $Δ_{p}$ and neutron $Δ_{n}$ pairing gaps. On the basis of the multidimensional dynamic--programming method (MDPM) the optimal collective space $\{β_{2}, β_{4}, β_{6}, Δ_{p}, Δ_{n}\}$ for Fm isotopes was found.
Quadrupole excitations of even-even Ru and Pd isotopes are described within microscopic approach based on the general collective Bohr model which includes the effect of coupling with the pairing vibrations. The excitation energies and E2 transition probabilities observed in 104-114Ru and 106-110Pd are reproduced in the frame of the calculation containing no free parameters.
A systematic study of the yrast band in 154-164 Dy isotopes using the Projected Shell Model is presented. It is shown that, in the context of the present model, enlarging the mean field deformation by about 20 % allows a very good description of the spectrum of yrast band in these isotopes. The dependence of the B(E2) values on angular momentum is also better described when larger deformations are used. The observed oscillation of g-factors at low spin states remains an open question for this model.
Based on the realistic nuclear force of the high-precision CD-Bonn potential, we have performed comprehensive calculations for neutron-rich calcium isotopes using the Gamow shell model (GSM) which includes resonance and continuum. The realistic GSM calculations produce well binding energies, one- and two-neutron separation energies, predicting that $^{57}$Ca is the heaviest bound odd isotope and $^{70}$Ca is the dripline nucleus. Resonant states are predicted, which provides useful information for future experiments on particle emissions in neutron-rich calcium isotopes. Shell evolutions in th…
We have studied neutron-rich calcium isotopes in terms of the shell model employing a realistic effective interaction derived from the CD-Bonn nucleon-nucleon potential. The short-range repulsion of the potential is renormalized by way of the V-low-k approach. The calculated results are in very good agreement with the available experimental data, thus supporting our predictions for the hitherto unknown spectra of 53-56Ca nuclei. In this context, the possible existence of an N=34 shell closure is discussed.
Large-scale shell-model calculations for the even-even Cadmium isotopes 98 Cd - 108 Cd have been performed with the ANTOINE code in the π(2p 1/2 ; 1g 9/2 ) ν(2d 5/2 ; 3s 1/2 ; 2d 3/2 ; 1g 7/2 ; 1h 11/2 ) model space without further truncation. Known experimental energy levels and B(E2) values could be well reproduced. Taking these calculations as a starting ground we analyze the deformation parameters predicted for the Cd isotopes as a function of neutron number N and spin J using the methods of model independent invariants introduced by K. Kumar and D. Cline.
We investigate unnatural-parity high-spin states in neutron-rich Cr and Fe isotopes using large-scale shell-model calculations. These shell-model calculations are carried out within the model space of $fp$-shell + $0g_{9/2}$ + $1d_{5/2}$ orbits with the truncation allowing $1\hbarω$ excitation of a neutron. The effective Hamiltonian consists of GXPF1Br for $fp$-shell orbits and $V_{\rm MU}$ with a modification for the other parts. The present shell-model calculations can describe and predict the energy levels of both natural- and unnatural-parity states up to the high-spin states in Cr and Fe …
Collective low lying levels of light and medium Xenon isotopes are deduced from the Generalized Bohr Hamiltonian (GBH). The microscopic seven functions entering into the GBH are built from a deformed mean field of the Woods-Saxon type. Theoretical spectra are found to be close to the ones of the experimental data taking into account that the calculations are completely microscopic, that is to say, without any fitting of parameters.
Full shell-model diagonalization has been performed to study the structure of neutron-rich nuclei around $^{20}$C. We investigate in detail the roles played by the different monopole components of the effective interaction in the evolution of the N=14 shell in C, N and O isotopes. It is found that the relevant neutron-neutron monopole terms, $V^{nn}_{d_{5/2}d_{5/2}}$ and $V^{nn}_{s_{1/2}s_{1/2}}$, contribute significantly to the reduction of the N=14 shell gap in C and N isotopes in comparison with that in O isotopes. The origin of this unexpectedly large effect, which is comparable with (some…
The shell structure of even-even isotopes in Si, S, Ar and Ca has been analysed. The theoretical calculations of shell closure parameter $D_{n} (N)$ and the differential variation of the two-neutron separation energy $dS_{2n} (Z, N )$ are carried out within the framework of Hartree-Fock-Bogoliubov theory. Calculations are carried out for different skyrme forces and their sensitivity has been tested. Same nuclides are studied by employing the relativistic mean field aproach based on meson exchange and point coupling models. Theoretically calculated estimates are in good agreement with the recen…
We calculate the low-lying spectra of heavy tin isotopes from A=120 to A=130 using the 2s1d0g_{7/2}0h_{11/2} shell to define the model space. An effective interaction has been derived using 132Sn as closed core employing perturbative many-body techniques. We start from a nucleon-nucleon potential derived from modern meson exchange models. This potential is in turn renormalized for the given medium, 132Sn, yielding the nuclear reaction matrix, which is then used in perturbation theory to obtain the shell model effective interaction.
The potential sub-shell closures N = 32 and N = 34 are analyzed at high spins in the titanium isotopes within the generalized beyond mean field theory considering triaxial deformations and the angular frequency as generator coordinates together with the particle number and the angular momentum conservation. A good description of bulk properties, high angular momenta spectra and transition probabilities is obtained. The outcome at high spin in these nuclei is consistent with the magic number character of N = 32 but not of N = 34.
Shell structures in the N\simeq Z nucleus ^{17}O and the neutron-rich oxygen isotopes ^{23}O and ^{25}O are microscopically described by calculating single-particle energies with modern nucleon-nucleon interactions within the framework of the unitary-model-operator approach. It is found that the effect of three-body cluster terms on the single-particle energy is more important in ^{23}O and ^{25}O than ^{17}O.
Recent mass measurements show a substantial weakening of the binding energy difference delta_{2p} (Z,N) = E(Z-2,N) - 2 E(Z,N) + E(Z+2,N) in the neutron-deficient Pb isotopes. As delta_{2p} is often attributed to the size of the proton magic gap, it might be speculated that the reduction in delta_{2p} is related to a weakening of the spherical Z=82 shell. We demonstrate that the observed trend is described quantitatively by self-consistent mean-field models in terms of deformed ground states of Hg and Po isotopes.
The onset of intruder ground states in Na isotopes is investigated by comparing experimental data and shell-model calculations. This onset is one of the consequences of the disappearance of the N=20 magic structure, and the Na isotopes are shown to play a special role in clarifying the change of this magic structure. Both the electromagnetic moments and the energy levels clearly indicate an onset of ground state intruder configurations at neutron number N=19 already, which arises only with a narrow N=20 shell gap in Na isotopes resulting from the spin-isospin dependence of the nucleon-nucleon …
In this study, the artificial neural network method has been employed for the generation of the new two-body matrix elements which is used for pfg shell nuclei. For this purpose, jj44b interaction Hamiltonian has been considered as a source. After the generation of the new Hamiltonian, both, original and new generated, are tested on proton-rich Zn isotopes. According to the results, the calculated values are close to the each other. As well the results from new interaction (jj44b_nn) are closer to the available experimental values in some cases.
Five-dimensional collective Hamiltonian based on the covariant density functional theory has been applied to study the the low-lying states of even-even $^{148-162}$Gd isotopes. The shape evolution from $^{148}$Gd to $^{162}$Gd is presented. The experimental energy spectra and intraband $B(E2)$ transition probabilities for the $^{148-162}$Gd isotopes are reproduced by the present calculations. The relative $B(E2)$ ratios in present calculations are also compared with the available interacting boson model results and experimental data. It is found that the occupations of neutron $1i_{13/2}$ orb…
Comprehensive set of shell model calculations for $^{78-84}$Se isotopes have been performed with recently derived interactions, namely JUN45 and jj44b for ${f_{5/2}pg_{9/2}}$ space. To study the importance of the proton excitations across Z=28 shell in this region mentioned by Cheal {\it et al.} [Phys. Rev. Lett. {\bf104}, 252502 (2010)], calculation for ${fpg_{9/2}}$ valence space using an ${fpg}$ effective interaction with $^{48}$Ca as core and imposing a truncation has also been performed. Comparison of the calculations with experimental data show that the predicted results of jj44b interac…
Low energy quadrupole excitations of the 84-110Mo nuclei are studied in the frame of the general Bohr collective model based on the ATDHFB method with the Skyrme effective interaction. Obtained energies of the 2_1, 4_1, 2_2 and 0_2 levels and B(E2) values for the 2_1 -> 0_g.s transitions are in good agreement with experimental data.
The low-lying collective states in Sn isotopes are studied by a five-dimensional collective Hamiltonian with parameters determined from the triaxial relativistic mean-field calculations using the PC-PK1 energy density functional. The systematics for both the excitation energies of $2^+_1$ states and $B(E2;0^+_1\to 2^+_1)$ values are reproduced rather well, in particular, the enhanced E2 transitions in the neutron-deficient Sn isotopes with N<66. We show that the gradual degeneracy of neutron levels 1g7/2 and 2d5/2 around the Fermi surface leads to the increase of level density and consequently…
We have studied neutron-rich carbon isotopes in terms of the shell model employing a realistic effective hamiltonian derived from the chiral N3LOW nucleon-nucleon potential. The single-particle energies and effective two-body interaction have been both determined within the framework of the time-dependent degenerate linked-diagram perturbation theory. The calculated results are in very good agreement with the available experimental data, providing a sound description of this isotopic chain toward the neutron dripline. The correct location of the dripline is reproduced.
Recently, charge radii and ground-state electromagnetic moments of Li and Be isotopes were measured precisely. We have performed large-scale ab initio no-core shell model calculations for these isotopes using high-precision nucleon-nucleon potentials. The isotopic trends of our computed charge radii and quadrupole and magnetic-dipole moments are in good agreement with experimental results with the exception of the 11Li charge radius. The magnetic moments are in particular well described, whereas the absolute magnitudes of the quadrupole moments are about 10% too small. The small magnitude of t…
The interaction cross sections for $^A Na + ^{12}C$ reaction are calculated using Glauber model. The continuum Hartree-Bogoliubov theory has been generalized to treat the odd particle system and take the continuum into account. The theory reproduces the experimental result quite well. The matter distributions from the proton drip line to the neutron drip line in Na isotopes have been systematically studied and presented. The relation between the shell effects and the halos has been examined. The tail of the matter distribution shows a strong dependence on the shell structure. The neutron N=28 …
We report on a shell-model study of Sn isotopes beyond N=82 employing a realistic effective interaction derived from the CD-Bonn nucleon-nucleon potential renormalized through use of the V-low-k approach. At present, the most exotic Sn isotope for which some experimental information exists is 134Sn with an N/Z ratio of 1.68. It is the aim of our study to compare the results of our calculations with the available experimental data and to make predictions for the neighboring heavier isotopes which may be within reach of the next generation of radioactive ion beam facilities. The very good agreem…
One of the main ingredients in nuclear structure studies using shell model are the single-particle energy (spe). In order to obtain these values accurately, experimental data is needed. The region around the doubly magic nuclide 100Sn is very interesting for nuclear studies in terms of structure, reaction and nuclear astrophysics. Experimental spectrum data for the 101Sn isotope is required for nuclear shell model studies to be carried out in this region. Since there is not enough experimental data in the literature, different approaches are used for the obtaining spes for the region such as u…
Low-lying spectra and several high-spin states of odd--even $^{61,63,65}$Co isotopes are calculated in two different shell-model spaces. First set of calculations have been carried out in ${fp}$ shell valence space (full $fp$ space for $^{63,65}$Co and a truncated one for $^{61}$Co) using two recently derived ${fp}$ shell interactions, namely GXPF1A and KB3G, with $^{40}$Ca as core. Similarly, the second set of calculations have been performed in ${fpg_{9/2}}$ valence space using an ${fpg}$ effective interaction due to Sorlin {\it et al}., with $^{48}$Ca as core and imposing a truncation. It i…
The recently measured experimental data of Legnaro National Laboratories on neutron rich even isotopes of $^{62-66}$Fe with A=62,64,66 have been interpreted in the framework of large scale shell model. Calculations have been performed with a newly derived effective interaction GXPF1A in full $\it{fp}$ space without truncation. The experimental data is very well explained for $^{62}$Fe, satisfactorily reproduced for $^{64}$Fe and poorly fitted for $^{66}$Fe. The increasing collectivity reflected in experimental data when approaching N=40 is not reproduced in calculated values. This indicates th…
We discuss the mechanism causing the `kink' in the charge radius isotope shift at the N=126 shell closure. The occupation of the 1$i_{11/2}$ neutron orbital is the decisive factor for reproducing the experimentally observed kink. We investigate whether this orbital is occupied or not by different Skyrme effective interactions as neutrons are added above the shell closure. Our results demonstrate that several factors can cause an appreciable occupation of the 1$i_{11/2}$ neutron orbital, including the magnitude of the spin-orbit field, and the isoscalar effective mass of the Skyrme interaction.…
We report on the development of a new shell-model Monte Carlo algorithm which uses the proton-neutron formalism. Shell model Monte Carlo methods, within the isospin formulation, have been successfully used in large-scale shell-model calculations. Motivation for this work is to extend the feasibility of these methods to shell-model studies involving non-identical proton and neutron valence spaces. We show the viability of the new approach with some test results. Finally, we use a realistic nucleon-nucleon interaction in the model space described by (1p_1/2,0g_9/2) proton and (1d_5/2,2s_1/2,1d_3…
We present a microscopic analysis of the collective behaviour of the lead isotopes in the vicinity of Pb208. In this study, we rely on a coherent approach based on the Generator Coordinate Method including exact projection on N and Z numbers within a collective space generated by means of the constrained Hartree-Fock BCS method. With the same Hamiltonian used in HF+BCS calculations, we have performed a comprehensive study including monopole, quadrupole and octupole excitations as well as pairing vibrations. We find that, for the considered nuclei, the collective modes which modify the most the…
Experimentally observed heaviest $N \approx Z$ nuclei, Ru isotopes, are investigated by the shell model on a spherical basis with the extended $P+QQ$ Hamiltonian. The energy levels of all the Ru isotopes can be explained by the shell model with a single set of force parameters. The calculations indicate enhancement of quadrupole correlations in the $N=Z$ nucleus $^{88}$Ru as compared with the other Ru isotopes, but the observed moments of inertia seem to require much more enhancement of quadrupole correlations in $^{88}$Ru. It is discussed that the particle alignment takes place at $8^+$ in $^…
The region around the doubly magic nuclide $^{100}Sn$ is very interesting for nuclear physics studies in terms of structure, reaction and nuclear astrophysics. The main ingredients in nuclear structure studies using the shell model are the single-particle energies and the two-body matrix elements. To obtain the former, experimental data of $^{101}Sn$ isotope spectrum are necessary. Since there is not enough experimental data, different approaches are used in the literature to obtain single-particle energies. In sn100pn interaction, the hole excitation spectrum was used in $^{131}Sn$ to determi…
We employ interactions from chiral effective field theory and compute the binding energies and low-lying excitations of calcium isotopes with the coupled-cluster method. Effects of three-nucleon forces are included phenomenologically as in-medium two-nucleon interactions, and the coupling to the particle continuum is taken into account using a Berggren basis. The computed ground-state energies and the low-lying 2+ states for the isotopes 42,48,50,52Ca are in good agreement with data, and we predict the excitation energy of the first 2+ state in 54Ca at 1.9 MeV, displaying only a weak sub-shell…
The $N = 28$ shell gap in sulfur, argon, calcium and titanium isotopes is investigated in the framework of relativistic continuum Hartree-Bogoliubov (RCHB) theory. The evolutions of neutron shell gap, separation energy, single particle energy and pairing energy are analyzed, and it is found that $N = 28$ shell gap is quenched in sulfur isotopes but persists in argon, calcium and titanium isotopes. The evolution of $N = 28$ shell gap in $N = 28$ isotonic chain is discussed, and the erosion of $N = 28$ shell gap is understood with the evolution of potential with proton number.
We study the oblate-prolate shape mixing in the low-lying states of proton-rich Kr isotopes using the five-dimensional quadrupole collective Hamiltonian. The collective Hamiltonian is derived microscopically by means of the CHFB (constrained Hartree-Fock-Bogoliubov) + Local QRPA (quasiparticle random phase approximation) method, which we have developed recently on the basis of the adiabatic self-consistent collective coordinate method. The results of the numerical calculation show the importance of large-amplitude collective vibrations in the triaxial shape degree of freedom and rotational eff…
In the present work available experimental data up to high-spin states of $^{119-126}$Sn isotopes with different seniority ($v$), including $v$ = 4, 5, 6, and 7 have been interpreted with shell model, by performing full-fledged shell model calculations in the 50-82 valence shell composed of $1g_{7/2}$, $2d_{5/2}$, $1h_{11/2}$, $3s_{1/2}$, and $2d_{3/2}$ orbitals. The results have been compared with the available experimental data. These states are described in terms of broken neutron pairs occupying the $h_{11/2}$ orbital. Possible configurations of seniority isomers in these nuclei are discus…
A realistic shell-model study is performed for neutron-deficient tin isotopes up to mass A=108. All shell-model ingredients, namely two-body matrix elements, single-particle energies, and effective charges for electric quadrupole transition operators, have been calculated by way of the many-body perturbation theory, starting from a low-momentum interaction derived from the high-precision CD-Bonn free nucleon-nucleon potential. The focus has been put on the enhanced quadrupole collectivity of these nuclei, which is testified by the observed large B(E2;0+ -> 2+)s. Our results evidence the crucia…
We present an analysis of two-proton shell gaps in Sn isotopes. As the theoretical tool we use self-consistent mean-field models, namely the relativistic mean-field model and the Skyrme-Hartree-Fock approach, both with two different pairing forces, a delta interaction (DI) model and a density-dependent delta interaction (DDDI). We investigate the influence of nuclear deformation as well as collective correlations and find that both effects contribute significantly. Moreover, we find a further significant dependence on the pairing force used. The inclusion of deformation plus correlation effect…
We report in this paper a study in terms of the nuclear shell model about the location of the calcium isotopes drip line. The starting point is considering the realistic two-body potential derived by Entem and Machleidt within chiral perturbation theory at next-to-next-to-next-to-leading order (N3LO), as well as a chiral three-body force at next-to-next-to-leading order (N2LO) whose structure and low-energy constants are consistent with the two-body potential. Then we construct the effective single-particle energies and residual interaction needed to diagonalize the shell-model Hamiltonian. Th…
We discuss shape coexistence in the neutron-deficient Kr72-Kr78 isotopes in the framework of configuration mixing calculations of particle-number and angular-momentum projected axial mean-field states obtained from self-consistent calculations with the Skyrme interaction SLy6 and a density-dependent pairing interaction. While our calculation reproduces qualitatively and quantitatively many of the global features of these nuclei, such as coexistence of prolate and oblate shapes, their strong mixing at low angular momentum, and the deformation of collective bands, the ordering of our calculated …
Large scale shell model calculations have been carried out for odd-odd $^{58-62}$Mn isotopes in two different model spaces. First set of calculations have been carried out in full $\it{fp}$ shell valence space with two recently derived $\it{fp}$ shell interactions namely GXPF1A and KB3G treating $^{40}$Ca as core. The second set of calculations have been performed in ${fpg_{9/2}}$ valence space with the $fpg$ interaction treating $^{48}$Ca as core and imposing a truncation by allowing up to a total of six particle excitations from the 0f$_{7/2}$ orbital to the upper $\it{fp}$ orbitals for prot…
Neutron-rich Sr nuclei around N=60 exhibit a sudden shape transition from spherical ground state to strongly prolate-deformed. Recently, a lot of new insight into the structure of Sr isotopes in this region was gained through experimental studies of excited levels, transitions strengths and spectroscopic factors. In this work, a "classic" shell-model description of strontium isotopes from N=50 to N=58 is provided, using a natural valence space outside the 78Ni core. Both even-even and even-odd isotopes are adressed. In particular, spectroscopic factors are computed to shed more light on the st…
In this paper, we investigate features of the ground state of some nuclei far from the stability for isotope chains with proton numbers Z=18 and 20. Our aim is to predict the eventual existence of magic numbers in these exotic nuclei. For this purpose, we use two methods: the non relativistic Hartree-Fock-Bogoliubov (HFB) approach based on SLy4 Skyrme functional and the relativistic (so-called covariant) density functional theory (CDFT) by using the DD-ME2 force parametrization. We compare our results with the available experimental data and with the predictions of other models such as Finite …
The Gamow shell model has shown to efficiently describe weakly bound and unbound nuclear systems, as internucleon correlations and continuum coupling are both taken into account in this model. In the present work, we study neutron-dripline oxygen isotopes. It is hereby demonstrated that the presence of continuum coupling is important for the description of oxygen isotopes at dripline, and especially to assess the eventual bound or unbound character of $^{28}$O. Our results suggest that the ground state of $^{28}$O is weakly unbound and is similar to the narrow resonant $^{26}$O ground state. P…
We study the neutron-rich calcium isotopes performing shell-model calculations with a realistic effective interaction. This is derived from the CD-Bonn nucleon-nucleon potential renormalized by way of the V-low-k approach, considering 48Ca as an inert core and including the neutron 0g9/2 orbital. We compare our results with experiment and with the results of a previous study where 40Ca was assumed as a closed core and the standard 1p0f model space was employed. The calculated spectroscopic properties are in both cases in very good agreement with the available experimental data and enable a dis…
In this work we examine two recent effective shell model interactions, JUN45 and JJ4B, that have been proposed for use in the $f_{5/2},p_{3/2}, p_{1/2}, g_{9/2}$ model space for both protons and neutrons. We calculate a number of quantities that did not enter into the fits undertaken to fix the parameters of both interactions. In particular we consider static quadrupole moments (Q's) of excited states of the even-even $^{70-76}$Ge isotopes, as well as the B(E2) values in these nuclei. (We have previously studied $^{70}$Zn isotopes using JJ4B.) Some striking disagreements between the JUN45 pred…
We perform large shell model calculations for Calcium isotopes in the full fp shell by using the realistic Kuo-Brown interaction. The Calcium isotopes are especially interesting because the nearest-neighbour spacing distribution P(s) of low-lying energy levels shows significant deviations from the predictions of the Gaussian Orthogonal Ensemble of random--matrix theory. This contrasts with other neighbouring nuclei which show fully chaotic spectral distributions. We study the chaotic behaviour as a function of the excitation energy. In addition, a clear signature of chaos suppression is obtain…
The coupling of single-particle motion and of vibrations in $^{11}_4$Be produces dressed neutrons which spend only a fraction of the time in pure single-particle states, and which weighting differently from the bare neutrons, lead to parity inversion. The interaction of the two least bound neutrons in the ground state of $^{12}_4$Be mediated by the $v_{14}$ Argonne nucleon-nucleon potential and by the exchange of the phonon cloud, give rise to a strongly correlated state, where the neutrons spend more than half of the time in (s$^2$+d$^2$)-configurations, resulting in a breaking of the N=8 she…
We have employed RMF+BCS (relativistic mean-field plus BCS) approach to study behaviour of pf shell with the help of ground state properties of even-even nuclei. Our present investigations include separation energies , deformations, single particle energies, wavefunction, potential as well etc density distribution. As per recent experiments showing neutron magicity at N = 32 for Ca isotopes, our results with mass dependent pairing indicate a shell closure at N = 32 in Ca isotopes and a more strong shell closure at N = 34 in proton deficient 48Si because of reorganization of neutron pf shell. I…
