Let n be an integer, and consider finite sequences of elements of the group Z/nZ x Z/nZ. Such a sequence is called zero-sum free, if no subsequence has sum zero. It is known that the maximal length of such a zero-sum free sequence is 2n-2, and Gao and Geroldinger conjectured that every zero-sum free sequence of this length contains an element with multiplicity at least n-2. By recent results of Gao, Geroldinger and Grynkiewicz, it essentially suffices to verify the conjecture for n prime. Now fix a sequence (a_i) of length 2n-2 with maximal multiplicity of elements at most n-3. There are different approeaches to show that (a_i) contains a zero-sum; some work well when (a_i) does contain elements with high multiplicity, others work well when all multiplicities are small. The aim of this article is to initiate a systematic approach to property B via the highest occurring multiplicities. Our main results are the following: denote by m_1 >= m_2 the two maximal multiplicities of (a_i), and suppose that n is sufficiently big and prime. Then (a_i) contains a zero-sum in any of the following cases: when m_2 >= 2/3n, when m_1 > (1-c)n, and when m_2 < cn, for some constant c > 0 not depending on anything.
Maximal green sequences are important objects in representation theory, cluster algebras, and string theory. The two fundamental questions about maximal green sequences are whether a given algebra admits such sequences and, if so, does it admit only finitely many. We study maximal green sequences in the case of string algebras and give sufficient conditions on the algebra that ensure an affirmative answer to these questions.
In this paper, we study the maximal length of maximal green sequences for quivers of type $\widetilde{\mathbf{D}}$ and $\widetilde{\mathbf{E}}$ by using the theory of tilting mutation. We show that the maximal length does not depend on the choice of the orientation, and determine it explicitly. Moreover, we give a program which counts all maximal green sequences by length for a given Dynkin/extended Dynkin quiver.
We introduce a new method for producing both maximal green and reddening sequences of quivers. The method, called component preserving mutations, generalizes the notion of direct sums of quivers and can be used as a tool to both recover known reddening sequences as well as find reddening sequences that were previously unknown. We use the method to produce and recover maximal green sequences for many bipartite recurrent quivers that show up in the study of periodicity of $T$-systems and $Y$-systems. Additionally, we show how our method relates to the dominance phenomenon recently considered by …
We show that, in contrast to the integers setting, almost all even order abelian groups $G$ have exponentially fewer maximal sum-free sets than $2^{μ(G)/2}$, where $μ(G)$ denotes the size of a largest sum-free set in $G$. This confirms a conjecture of Balogh, Liu, Sharifzadeh and Treglown.
We prove that the number of 01-fillings of a given stack polyomino (a polyomino with justified rows whose lengths form a unimodal sequence) with at most one 1 per column which do not contain a fixed-size northeast chain and a fixed-size southeast chain, depends only on the set of row lengths of the polyomino. The proof is via a bijection between fillings of stack polyominoes which differ only in the position of one row and uses the Hecke insertion algorithm by Buch, Kresch, Shimozono, Tamvakis, and Yong and the jeu de taquin for increasing tableaux of Thomas and Yong. Moreover, our bijection g…

Balogh, Liu, Sharifzadeh and Treglown [Journal of the European Mathematical Society, 2018] recently gave a sharp count on the number of maximal sum-free subsets of $\{1, \dots, n\}$, thereby answering a question of Cameron and Erdős. In contrast, not as much is know about the analogous problem for finite abelian groups. In this paper we give the first sharp results in this direction, determining asymptotically the number of maximal sum-free sets in both the binary and ternary spaces $\mathbb Z^k_2$ and $\mathbb Z^k_3$. We also make progress on a conjecture of Balogh, Liu, Sharifzadeh and Tregl…
In this paper, we present an alternative proof showing that the maximal aperiodic autocorrelation of the $m$-th Rudin-Shapiro sequence is of the same order as $λ^{m}$, where $λ$ is the real root of $x^{3} + x^{2} - 2x - 4$. This result was originally proven by Allouche, Choi, Denise, Erdélyi, and Saffari (2019) and Choi (2020) using a translation of the problem into linear algebra. Our approach simplifies this linear algebraic translation and provides another method of dealing with the computations given by Choi. Additionally, we prove an analogous result for the maximal periodic autocorrelati…
Let $G$ be a finite group. By a sequence over $G$, we mean a finite unordered sequence of terms from $G$, where repetition is allowed, and we say that it is a product-one sequence if its terms can be ordered such that their product equals the identity element of $G$. The large Davenport constant $\mathsf D (G)$ is the maximal length of a minimal product-one sequence, that is, a product-one sequence which cannot be factored into two non-trivial product-one subsequences. We provide explicit characterizations of all minimal product-one sequences of length $\mathsf D (G)$ over Dihedral and Dicycli…
Maximal green sequences appear in the study of Fomin-Zelevinsky's cluster algebras. They are useful for computing refined Donaldson-Thomas invariants, constructing twist automorphisms and proving the existence of theta bases and generic bases. We survey recent progress on their existence and properties and give a representation-theoretic proof of Greg Muller's theorem stating that full subquivers inherit maximal green sequences. In the appendix, Laurent Demonet describes maximal chains of torsion classes in terms of bricks generalizing a theorem by Igusa.
Let $x$ be an $m$-sequence, a maximal length sequence produced by a linear feedback shift register. We show that $x$ has maximal subword complexity function in the sense of Allouche and Shallit. We show that this implies that the nondeterministic automatic complexity $A_N(x)$ is close to maximal: $n/2-A_N(x)=O(\log^2n)$, where $n$ is the length of $x$. In contrast, Hyde has shown $A_N(y)\le n/2+1$ for all sequences $y$ of length $n$.
An addition theorem and maximal zero-sum free sets in Z/pZ
利用加性数论中的多项式方法,建立了$\mathbb{Z}/p\mathbb{Z}$中满足$A\cap(-A)=\emptyset$的集合的子和集的一个新的加法定理:\[|Σ(A)|\geqslant\min{p,1+\frac{|A|(|A|+1)}{2}}.\]该证明在性质上类似于Alon,Nathanson和Ruzsa对Erdös-Heilbronn猜想的证明(最初由Dias da Silva和Hamidoune \cite{DH}证明).
We study a zero-sum problem dealing with minimal zero-sum sequences of maximal length over finite abelian groups. A positive answer to this problem yields a structural description of sets of lengths with maximal elasticity in transfer Krull monoids over finite abelian groups.
